Refusal to accept personal accountability for our actions.

This irresponsibility is entrenched from the top to bottom of the Nigerian society - politicians who blame 'political opponents' to deflect accountability, to others conveniently hiding behind the devil when sh1t comes down

Truth is that the devil plays such a prominent role in their lives

So using your analogy, if a son totals his father's car, and quickly comes to him in restitution and repentance - is it not possible, that there may not be punishment at all? As a father myself, this will be the most likely course of action I will take.

While I find your dire interpretation of the Bible intriguing, it's way out of step and highly unlikely. For if sin is not graded, and if the wages of sin is death regardless of repentance and restitution - then I suppose imminent physical death awaits us all - including you?

Some wise council on this forum - the maturity and purposefullness have been quite revealing, and I appreciate the candid contributions - even those that I may be fundamentally at odds with what I have come to understand as Gods message. I have accepted too, that it's not in my place to confess to her husband, as though this may suggest a moral highpoint, like a commenter previously suggested, the purpose here is not to mount a moral high horse with the resultant breakup of a home. I doubt this is Gods message. In her time, she can confess if she deems it fit, for my main focus now is restitution with God, which I do not deem as necessarily premised on man's foregiveness.

My key takeaways are as follows -

Do not try to cover up sin; Repent and seek God’s forgiveness (II Samuel 11:6-13).

David tried to cover his sinful behavior by bringing Bathsheba’s husband back from the battlefield. David hoped that Bathsheba and her husband would sleep together and everyone would believe it was this marital union that resulted in Bathsheba’s pregnancy. However, Bathsheba’s husband refuse to lay with his wife while the other men remained on the battlefield without him. It seems that Bathsheba’s husband had more morals than King David did in some matters.

Although David could have confessed and repented at this point, he decided to try another cover up. He had Bathsheba’s husband sent back into battle, placed on the front lines, and then abandoned to face death at the hands of the enemy. King David had Bathsheba’s husband murdered in the hope of covering his own sinful behavior. An important lesson to be learned from this is that one sin leads to another, oftentimes worse, sin if the sinner does not confess to God and repent of the sinful conduct (Romans 6:19).

God Will Even Forgive Adultery.

Second Samuel 12:1-15 tells us that Nathan, David’s beloved friend, confronted David with his sin. The mighty Kind David’s heart was broken when he realized how he had sinned against God and grieved God’s heart. David repented, asked for God’s forgiveness, and was forgiven.

Today, God offers that same forgiveness. When one comes to faith in Jesus Christ, by confessing and repenting of his or her sin, God is faithful to remove the guilt, shame, and future penalty that sin carried with it. By committing one’s life to Christ, a person becomes a new creation (II Corinthians 5:17), no longer helpless to resist temptation, but empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit.

This forgiveness is reiterated in the New Testament by Paul, writing to the Corinthians. Recall the verses mentioned earlier in I Corinthians listing some of the sins that will prevent one from entering the kingdom of God. Paul did not leave the Corinthian Christians without hope. The next verse says, “And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (I Corinthians 6:11).

Whether the sin is adultery or something else, Jesus Christ has paid the price for our forgiveness by His death, burial, and resurrection. No one has sinned too much or too long to be forgiven. The offer of salvation is for everyone (John 3:16) who is willing to confess and repent of his or her sins and turn their lives over to the Almighty Creator, Sustainer, and Savior of the world.

Thanks for your comments/advice - particularly to Alexleo, Honey001 etc. God is truly alive, as I just found my answer.

Just after posting this message, I switched over to a Joel Oesteen channel just now - and the message of the day was 'don't beat yourself for mistakes of the past. God forgives regardless of the sin - unfaithfullness etc. Move forward boldly knowing you've been forgiven'

I'm not a crying man, but this brought tears to my eyes. It's is the first of these messages I've ever heard - and felt, in such a powerful way, that God was speaking so directly to me.

Religion / Advice - I Was Intimate With My Best Friends Wife by omojand: 10:13am On Apr 07, 2013
I'm posting this on this thread as I need advice from the God fearing folks here, who I hope will be less judgemental, though I'm aware that I have betrayed a very good friend, let myself down and sinned before God

I am married to a very beautiful woman whom I love so much. We are both based in Washington, though I visit the UK from time to time where I have some investments. Over the past 3 years, on 3 occasions, for some inexplicable, selfish reasons, I was intimate with my friends wife on a number of occasions we met in Washington. Though there was no actual s3x (I refused to go that far), we got really intimate on a number of occasions as I was caught up in a moment of weakness and adventure, which I now regret so very much. I feel I have betrayed the trust of a close fried and that I will never be forgiven by God. I also feel that I'm now being punished by God for this careless act. I have pondered confessing to my friend, and have decided against it as it will almost certainly ruin their marriage - they now have four kids.

I definitely do not want to confess and break up his home - instead, I constantly pray to God to forgive me for what I did, for committing such a grave sin, as I know there are grave consequences for betrayal of this kind.

Will God ever forgive me? What should I do?

Family / Re: Forcing My Mother-in-law To Leave My Home by omojand: 11:51am On Dec 22, 2010
As a man, it's important you stamp your authourity in your home. You are the head of the household, must act as one and gain respect in the process. From all indications, your wife and mum may have lost respect for you, and your mum may be a silent instigator in all of this. This na see finish!

I suggest you go back home with a different strategy. Ignore their pettiness for now. You will have to change aspects of your lifestyle so they understand you have options (Will come to that later). These are some of the qualities of leadership you must demonstrate that will come into good stead. Your wife must realise she has much more to loose by loosing you. Not to have called you in 4 days sleeping rough means she is not threatened by your absence in anyway. Which says a lot. We'll come to that interim lifestyle changes later on to address this problem.

One question I have though is, who is the main financial provider in the household? Do you have kids?
Politics / Re: Threat #2: Disqualifying Me Will Not Mean Well For This Country –atiku by omojand: 5:32pm On Dec 20, 2010
Atiku is only making noise because he fully understands he cannot win the primaries, however he tries. So he wants to provoke the powers that be into a contentious, controversial action that he hopes to take advantage of.

GEJ and his team are too smart for that. They will simply let him rant as much he wants, come day of primaries, he will be humiliated like the stray dog that he is.
Politics / Re: Threat #2: Disqualifying Me Will Not Mean Well For This Country –atiku by omojand: 3:36pm On Dec 20, 2010
And what do you have to backup all these claims (and insults). Or another childishness from the Jonathan/Sambo camp?

Not everyone who's against Atiku is pro GEJ. As a matter of fact, I don't think GEJ has the leadership qualities required to get us through the current crisis in Nigeria. Give me a Ribadu, Duke or Fashola anyday.

But as for Atiku, that's another story. He typifies the very WORST of leadership in Nigeria today. Ostentatious, greedy and manipulative. In a meritorious society, a backward nomad like Atiku would be no more than a mai guard or mai shai.

The script is already played out. Atiku will run against GJ. Will be heavily defeated in the primaries. He will then run to the courts with 25 SANs by his side, SANs desperate for money to pay childrens foreign school fees.

They will go as far as to the Supreme court if necessary, afterall, the Presidency is Atiku's birth right and must be extracted at all cost. Atiku, a currupt, un-educated homosexual of a man, thrust into prominence by OBJ now believes Aso Rock is his birthright.

Politics / Re: Atiku May Be Charged For Treason - Presidency by omojand: 2:34pm On Dec 17, 2010
Atiku's desperation has been clear right from OBJ's days. Thats the reason OBJ was hell bent on frustrating his ambitions.

First, he fought 3rd term with all his might, not because he loves Nigeria so much, but because he knew OBJ would have put the final nail in his coffin, and the dominance of the backward northern cabal that hold sway in our land. Bloody semi-illiterate thief foisteriing himself on us all!

There is simply no way he'll become President of Nigeria. Impossible. He's the very worst of all the candidates out there. Manipulative, sectional and extremely currupt! The stakes are simply too high for our nation. We must all wake up to our responsibilities now or the next 10 years will certainly be another wasted decade!

Many desperate, hapless families have been rendered homeless by the incompetence and greed of political leaders in Nigeria, of which the wives and kids of such leaders have now idea. They have been, and continue to be big beneficiaries of the proceeds of crime.

Tourism shouldn't be the priority investment in delta state. There are 101 other ventures that would make much more sense.

Now they will purchase huge generators to power the facility and post heavily armed guards to protect tourists,  right?

Did they even bother to find out what has become of that massive tourist complex built by D.Duke in Rivers before commiting to yet another white elephant project?

Even if we must speak in the context of the North -

- On one hand you have Atiku - criminal, greedy, irresponsible, desperate, indiscipline, shallow.

- On the other hand, you have men like Sanusi - Intelligent, courageous, confident, discipline, honest and sincere.

And the best the Ciroma led northern mafia can come up with is Babangida and Atiku.

Anyone who can't see what is goin on here -  the desperate bid by a pampered and paranoid clique to preserve their advantage/privilege over the rest of us and fraustrate the development of the nation is either blind or brain dead.
Career / Re: After Your Msc Abroad: Stay Or Go? by omojand: 6:32pm On Dec 01, 2010
I think its better to come back to Nigeria after MSc because life abroad is not as rosy as people think. When you come back to Nigeria, you will have an advantage over so many others in terms of your CV , so finding a job will be easier. But if u stay abroad, recruiters would rather consider their nationals and many others who have similar CVs , before considering you.
.

This is not universally true, and must be properly qualified. In the UK for instance (particularly in financial services), you find that competition for talent is fierce - irrespective of race or creed. Capable people who are good communicators will likely get in and ahead.

It's important that this is projected in the context of Value-Add!. Have a  keen awareness / appreciation of the underlying value proposition wherever you are. How much of the knowledge can you internalize and deploy?. Are you able to successfully leverage concepts and models, day in, day out. How much can you influence the bottom line? How entrepreneural is your mindset?. These are the most desirable qualities that 21st century challenges demand. A certificate, wherever it may come from and wherever you find yourself, can only get you so far!

Sir majority of Nigerians dont like any of those people you mentioned, are you sure you are Nigerian?

Yes indeed sir. I'm Nigerian to the marrow.

Nigerians may not like them because they say it as it is. So who do they like? Oh, let me guess. Governors, Senators, Reps? People who simply play politics with everything and relentlessly pursue self interest ALL the time. Good people are discredited by powerful forces through campaign of columny soon as they rear their heads. That is the bane of Nigeria. And we, the people, take it in, hook, line, STINKER.
Politics / Re: Atiku Promises To Reduce Company Income Tax To 10%, by omojand: 12:55pm On Dec 01, 2010
Our leaders are intellectually lazy. They know that the majority of the people are gullible, a mental inertness that is the result of decades of abuse and manipulation!

That is why a confirmed thief  like Atiku can boast of the audience, following and attention he's availed of today, rather than dwelling in a cold prison cell which is his rightful place!

On a side note, it's easy to determine those that wish Nigeria well. Simply look for those that challenge the national assembly. That is a simple yardstick, as NASS is the biggest drain, inhibition to our national renaisance.

The following will always be high on my list of respectables -

OBJ
Segun Aganga
Sanusi Lamido.

Everyone else is avoiding serious, real issues, playing politics to avoid rocking their boats. It's easy to come up with unworkable, big-sounding programmes to manipulate the poor, un-enlighted, hungry masses. Atiku's policies are not workable in Nigeria. It's an unsustainable model and will add very little to private sector growth.

The problem is infrastructure, infrastructure and infrastructure. Most organizations already heavily discount operational costs to the extent that corporation tax remitted is trivial. He needs to come up with workable policies that address the major infrastructure deficit, as well as a blueprint to fighting the endemic corruption that if not tackled, will render all other efforts completly irrelevant.

Politics / Re: Atiku Promises To Reduce Company Income Tax To 10%, by omojand: 12:33pm On Dec 01, 2010
He is appealing to the wrong people. It's the delegates that will decide who the next PDP flagbearer will be. Most, if not all, the PDP delegates are not swayed by grammer. Thats even if they can read at at all.

This man was VP for 8 years and was a resounding success. Succeeding in furnishing his Potomac mansion to the highest possible specification, building a grand, world class private university for the wealthy amongst us, expanding his private enterprise (Intels) to staggering proportions and acquiring properties all over Dubai. Now he wants us to believe that as President he'll be more sensitive to our sufferings?.

I'm sorry, but it's only the ignorant, naive amongst us that will fall for this man's grand scams. No kidding.

Politics / Re: 2011: Obj Moves Against Atiku ! by omojand: 5:30pm On Nov 25, 2010
Comparing OBJ to Atiku is akin to comparing night and day! The comments on Atiku here are mis-informed at best. That man Atiku is a monumentally currupt beast, capable of selling Nigeria to secure the interest of his families and cronies. He will NEVER win. More credible nothern candidates on other platforms will simply dilute whatever dominance he may muster.

and as for this -

nigerians need to know how he became so influential that he cld convience his own daughter inlaw to sleep with him.

He was the President of Nigeria dude. That makes him a very powerful man. Even a local goverment chairman could have pulled this off - depending on who the woman offcourse. Many women are simply drawn to powerful men and some will find it so irresistable they would encourage it in the first place!
Politics / Re: Revealed: Atiku Defeated Ibb By Just One Vote! by omojand: 3:23pm On Nov 24, 2010
Atiku will lose to GEJ, no doubt. He's an extremely currupt, desperate and despicable man and most Nigerians will not be fooled.

My only concern is that given his level of desperation, he may overheat the polity with one lawsuit after aother after GEJ's victory.  Believe it or not, this man is the jackie chan of do or die politics.

I don't think LBS offers a distance learning module, so that might rule them out for you. Besides, you may find the cost too prohibitive (given your cost sensitivity). I would suggest you research the following institutions -

- Imperial, Judge (Cambridge), SAID (Oxford), Warrwick, Cranfield. These are all top UK institutions with strong international brands.

I'm a graduate of the executive MBA programme from Imperial Business School. Though I held a management position prior to embarking on the programme, the knowledge/qualification helped transition me into a high-visibility, front-offfice role within the same global organization. Tuition fees was approx £40.000. I know a distance-learning offering exists, but don't have cost information at hand. You can find all relevant information on the websites of the respective institutions listed.

why cant NLC and other bodies go on strike just to say no to a particular govt. mass protest and demostration sometimes can do magic

The NLC is severely compromised! They fight only for wages and fuel price related issues. They have become a single issue pressure group, backward and currupt in their entirety.  NANS leadership on the other hand, is heavily soiled. Those student leaders are worse than the politicians of today.

At the invididual level, the people are cowardly, oppressed, timid and selfish!!! That's why criminals have larger-than-life personalities in our societies today. Sadly, I don't see this changing in a long time to come.

Placed in the context of Nigerian politics of today, this statement is quite mis-informed indeed. In Nigerian politics and especially in the govs forum, you don't get respect for doing the right thing!!! What an un-elected band of currupt holigans (with the exception of a handful),  inept, conniving and self-serving impostors!
