After several applications for admissions to several countries, I somehow got admissions to study in USA, Canada and Malaysia.
It would cost a fortune for an undergraduate with little to no financial backbone to study software engineering in the USA so there is no way in the world I can get that considering coming from a regular struggling Nigerian home.
I settled for Malaysia since that seems cheaper compared to other options at hand. All thanks to my Country for not having any university that could offer the program as at back then, but I’m not letting that bother me. My ambition was bigger and too flaming to wait for an unserious country to decide my destiny cool smiley

Luckily for me, I used to have a family friend who was studying the same course in Malaysia, He actually helped in processing my admissions. Having processed all the necessary paperwork to facilitate my entry to Malaysia, without a second taught, I sold everything I could, got whatever I could from my parents, and jetted out of the country for my undergraduate degree.
The first flight touched down Dubai and we continued to Kuala Lumpur after 4 hrs of layover. All through this journey, I was alone in my own world asking myself questions in my own head and hoping I am making the right decision for my own life since there is no turning back at this point.
It was 2:17am local time, I was tapped by one of the air hostesses to fasten my seatbelt as the plane was gravitating to touch down Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I obliged, peep through the window and all I saw was a country full of bright lights.... Indeed, the journey of a million miles, begins with a single move. The struggle had just began...... angry

Sir, what is the advantage of using c+ over python

Every programming language has their own strengths and advantages so the answer to your question would determine what system you want to build and what you need to achieve. C++ is one of the oldschool languages while python is one of the new generation languages. They both have their own advantages

I started scouting for other options as my passion for computer science was bigger than anything at that point in time. I applied to schools in USA, UK, Canada, Australia and even Malaysia. I got admissions but due to financial constraints, I was set back to my own reality.

The struggle continues....

Would subscribe when I have data, just checked your profile and I saw a thread about C# but it's python that I would love to learn, do you have little knowledge about it cause I saw some kind of similar languages in this C# and python, can you make video about python for we learners too

I am a fullstack .Net and Angular developer. I really can’t speak on python yet because I’m still learning python too, but I can lecture, and speak on .Net and angular and SQL. I’ll start a python thread when I’m comfortable enough with python

Wow cool, I program in c++ and Python, most of the software I have created have c++ backend and Python frontend but I don't really know how to create libraries what step should I take to start library development

First learn to understand how framework works and you’ll have a smooth understanding of creating libraries. You can create libraries by predefining and implementing logics that can be referenced by other classes a developer might be using

It was in 2007, After my first jamb attempt. I was at the cyber cafe to check my result and somehow I scaled thru the hurdles to gain admission to University of Ibadan’s Mathematics department.

My other friend that went with me congratulated me and for a minute, I was totally blank. I knew I wasn’t interested in Mathematics, I had always wanted some kind of Engineering courses and yes my first choice was petroleum engineering. It was at this point I knew my passion and ambition might not go as I have planned and I had made up my mind not to resume at Ibadan.

I started looking for options to either write jamb again or flee the country to go study computer engineering since petroleum engineering is becoming impossible to achieve. It was at this point it dawned on me that not even a single university in Nigeria was offering computer science as of 2007......

While I get back to work, kindly subscribe to my YouTube channel smiley.

For instance, Mechanical engineer knows the different components of the machine, and can identify and fix any problem that comes out.
He knows the technical aspect of the engine. He can repair and fix any issues.

But he's not the one that develop the engine. The scientist or the researchers in that field designed it, and can improve its efficiency.

Software engineer knows how computer program and its components works. He understood how programming language works and can fix any problem with the language.

But he's not the one that design the programming language, the scientist in programming, design and develop the programming language and can improve it.

Hope you are cleared.

Career / Re: Should I Pursue Another Federal Job Or Leave For Canada? by omoluabiguy(m): 9:48pm On May 22, 2020
TallNigerian:
Hello Nairalanders,

I will be 30 years in a few months and I have never felt so much unease as I do right now. I work with one of the federal parastatals and I am currently on level 10 going to 12 next year. I have a Master degree athough it is not exactly relevant to my current job.

The problem is that my organisation uses the Ministry salary structure and my monthly net is below 80k even as a level 10 staff.

I am not married and I am academically inclined. Asides having a Master degree, I have over 8 professional certifications.

I have been trying to clinch a transfer of service to a better parastatal where the remuneration is better and where my knowledge/experiences as a science graduate will be better appreciated but it has been a bit difficult.

However, just before the COVID-19 episode in Nigeria, I got the right link for a transfer of service to a better parastatal but the process got stalled with the COVID-19 palaver.

I have 4 siblings who are Canadian citizens and they have been on my neck to migrate. I never took the calls seriously until this lockdown period. My siblings are arguing about the uncertainty of the Nigerian economy post-covid and advising me to seize this opportunity to migrate and start a new career over there?

My question therefore, "is it wise to stay back since I have gone quite far in my public service career and just wait for the opportunity to transfer my service to a better paying federal parastatal OR do I migrate to Canada and start a new career?

Your honest inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

@CrazyMan @1forall Please I need your help in pushing this forward for a wider view. Thank you.
Before you take that flight to Canada. Just subscribe to this channel and learn these skills otherwise, Na hustle you go hustle for there ooo. IT and software engineering is the biggest career out there these days

Sure, Software engineer are highest paid globally. Because their ability to solve critical problems is highly needed.

That you know a programming language does not mean you are an Engineer.

Software engineer knows the technical aspect of computer program. The logic and how every function works.

Hmmm... Interesting and yes they are highly paid globally. I’m just curious what it is like to be a software engineer in Nigeria if they are underpaid or actually getting what they deserve. so what exactly is the concept of software engineering compared to programming language?
