TravelTrump May Add Nigeria, Six Others To The Travel Ban List Within A Week by omonaijar(op): 10:13pm On Jan 21, 2020
Politico: President Donald Trump may expand his controversial travel ban with an announcement expected as early as Monday, the three-year anniversary of the original order, which targeted several majority-Muslim nations.

The list of countries is not yet final and could be changed, but nations under consideration for new restrictions include Belarus, Myanmar (also known as Burma), Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Sudan and Tanzania, according to two people familiar with the matter.

A draft being considered by the Trump administration would place immigration restrictions on the additional seven countries, but not necessarily completely ban all citizens of those nations from entering the United States.

HealthRe: If Proper Bathing Makes The Body Clean, What Makes The Towel Dirty? by omonaijar: 1:28am On Dec 03, 2013
Because your skin is not quite like a glass surface. Bits of it come off when you dry yourself, bits like hair that you can see and flesh that you can't.

So all that gunk stays in your towel and makes it dirty after a while.
Christianity EtcRe: Annoying Thing An Usher Has Done To You In Church? by omonaijar: 6:37pm On Oct 27, 2013
Nomski0: I sat down in the church during harvest, only for some really annoying usher to order me to stand up because that was a reserved seat. So i was supposed to sit somewhere else- far from the altar- just because someone who might still be eating at home and strolling to church should sit there while i, who woke up super early and skipped breakfast just to find a comfortable seat should stand up.
undecided
Even the priest could not make me stand not to talk of the rude usher. Everyone is equal before God and no one has a special seat.tongue
Some things in our culture are utter nonsense. Even the bible agrees.

James 2:2 - My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

FoodRe: Using Too Many Seasoning Shows You Are A Bad Cook: How True? by omonaijar: 12:03am On Sep 16, 2013
Baybe: Someone once told me that girls that make use of too many seasonings like, onga, mivina, benny, kitchen glory, chasito, ajinomoto all inside one pot of soup/stew are not good cooks. That a good cook makes use of only salt and seasoning cubes(maggi). How true is this?
Salt & maggi ONLY is a stretch, but yes, a good cook knows which combinations of spices work best for which dishes. A rookie thinks everything will make food sweeter shaaa. Most of the time, less is more.
FoodRe: Patronage On The Newly Opened Shoprite In Ibadan Hits A New Low by omonaijar: 3:01am On Aug 01, 2013
Swaginton: The first day it opened it was like a tourist site, but the
Ibadan people have since found their way back to their
local markets...lol. Barely a month after the grand
opening of Shoprite at Heritage Cocoa Mall, on Oba
Adebimpe Road, Dugbe, Ibadan, Oyo State, the retail
store has been hit with low patronage. The number of
Ibadan people who go there to buy things have
reduced drastically. Some residents blame it on the
prices of goods at shoprite. While some say it's
cheaper to buy some goods from their local markets
than from shoprite, others say though it's cheaper to
buy from shoprite than the stores in their
neighborhood, the difference isn't much and the
transport fare to go to shoprite and back isn't worth it,
so they stick to shops in their area.
The most patronized commodity at shoprite Ibadan is
the freshly baked bread, everything else na
manage...:-) Though people go there a lot on the
weekends...just to look around. Hehe
So what, you went to Shoprite on one Saturday, took a picture and decided to come here to draw conclusions? Nonsense.

My 7:30 interview

Sorry I cannot give lots of specifics because the way I see it, the Internet is never anonymous and I'd like to remain so (no be say I do anything illegal oh!).

Slept overnight in VI at overpriced hotel (do your research for cheap hotels wella oh, me I've learnt). Got to embassy around 6:15 and already the place was full of my brothers and sisters, applicants and touts alike.

Went through the security fortress to convince them that I no get bomb. The entire time I had been waiting, kept thanking God concerning His promises in the bible for provision, favor, etc. It's already such a nerve-racking on its own, but hearing people on the same queue getting denied makes it even worse.

Anyway d koko: I looked straight at the VO with a slight smile, gave short answers. She already had my documents because the first attendant held on to them.

VO: Hi
ME: Hello
VO: Please put your fingers on the warreva for fingerprint
ME: Puts fingers jeje
VO: So why are you going to the US?
Me: To study for an MS in x at Ivy League university y
VO: Master of Science huh?
ME: Yes, in course X
VO: Ok did you apply to any other schools?
Me: Yes, (mentioned other two)
VO: Did you know that the University of Missouri is actually the best place for your course? (I had read something about trick questions on this thread and was prepared!)
ME: Actually, my university is the only Ivy League school that offers it and so it is the best.
VO: (Gives me a smile that said "damn you DO know your ish"wink, meanwhile she's typing away.
VO: (Flips through my passport to see if I've traveled before, it has three visas to the same country)
VO: So who's paying?
ME: I have a full tuition scholarship to the tune of $x (>N5m by the way) and my parents are funding the balance of living expenses.
VO: What do your parents do?
ME: My dad and mom both own companies (included succinct job descriptions)
VO: What do you plan to do after graduation.
ME: I plan to come right back to Nigeria to complete my compulsory one-year youth service. Because I'm a foreign-trained graduate, I will choose Lagos and hopefully get a placement on a top company there.
VO: (Gives me that look again wink wink Okay you can collect your visa on Friday in VI, and good luck (Gives me that beautiful sexy gorgeous A4 piece of gold grin) grin.
ME: Thank you very much.
ME: *Walks right out and tries to maintain straight face for people that are entering as if to tell them "it ain't a thing", but fails dismally, as I begin to say "thank you Jesus" repeatedly and shed rare tears*

Interview took less than 2 mins, no agent used, no documents asked though I even took my Local Government certificate of origin as proof of home ties.

To God be the glory and to Nairaland be the three gbosas. Thank you all for taking the time out to share your tips and experiences. I've been a silent reader, only popping in to ask crucial questions. If my experience was anything to go by, you guys are on point.

Footnote: As a recommendation to the mods ( who're probably reading this), please consider setting up a sticky FAQ post for student visas with the most-commonly dealt with issues and tips (by no means a replacement for this thread). This thread is approaching four pages. If people start reading from page 1, they may end up confused, with a mix of outdated and current info. I for one was not prepared to because the pages are a lot, and I was able to get the most crucial info by following since around March. However, some people may not be that sharp. Please consider this in good faith. Thanks.

Question: I wasn't given back my i-20, please tell me this is standard procedure and it will come with my passport huh

Hi all, I think I'm being paranoid but one can never be too careful. Someone in the US helped pay my SEVIS fee. I checked online today and it says "Payment status = paid, receipt status = pending". I've attached a copy of my "receipt" and just want to be sure that it is the one and I shouldn't be waiting for another confirmation. Thanks.

Hello guys, please help:

Is it possible to pay SEVIS fee with credit card on the fmjee website, if not, can anyone recommend a reputable agent?
I've searched the forum but have not found any useful answer.
Foreign AffairsSouth African University's Mandela Obituary Leaks by omonaijar(op): 2:28pm On Jun 20, 2013
https://mybroadband.co.za/news/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Wits-Mandela-obituary.jpg

Source: http://www.enca.com/south-africa/wits-posts-mandela-condolences-message

The University of the Witwatersrand says it did not publish a Nelson Mandela obituary article.

The University said it had prepared a statement, which was hidden on its systems.

However, “a technical error made this available via a search function on Google,” it stated.

“At no stage did the university issue this statement or publish it on its website,” said spokesperson Kanina Foss.

The university also extended its sincerest apologies to the family, friends, fellow South Africans and global citizens for the obituary.

A Google link to the university’s website showed a post-dated message of condolence addressed to family and friends of Madiba titled Hamba kahle Tata Mandela.

The former president has been at the Heart Hospital in Pretoria for nearly two weeks recovering from a recurring lung infection. His family has reported that he's doing well.

In the message dated 31 July 2013, the university “expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of former president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, his comrades, to those who knew him well, to our fellow South Africans, to our staff, students and alumni, and to every global citizen that he touched through his thoughts, words, character, actions, presence and being.”

It goes on to say, “He was of us, but not ours as he belonged to citizens around the world. Not only has he transformed our lives, but also those of generations to come. Mandela’s unrivalled standing as a leader has been won by indomitable courage in the service of principle and in his striving for freedom, justice, democracy and equality. For liberty in this country, Mandela has never flinched to sacrifice his own; nor himself.”

It adds, “Madiba, the father of our nation, was Wits University’s most illustrious student and alumnus. He blessed us with his presence over the years as a student, a politician, an activist, as an Honorary graduate, as a President, a guest and as a friend of the University.

"We were blessed to have him in our midst and we – all Witsies, all South Africans, all Africans and indeed all of humanity must continue to uphold the ideals for which he lived, and those for which he was prepared to die.”

The university also mentioned an Honorary Doctorate it bestowed on the elderly former president in 1991 “for his ‘commitment to justice [which] drew him out of his profession and into national leadership,” adding “Mandela’s life has been an inspiration, here and throughout the world, to all who are oppressed and deprived, and to all who care about oppression and deprivation. He will remain an inspiration to Wits University, and for future generations of humanity.”

The sign-off details reflected those of “Professor Adam Habib, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, University of Witwatersrand, June 2013”

The message has since been taken down from the website.

In April this year, Universal Channel on DSTV’s 117 apologised after airing a Nelson Mandela obituary titled Remembering Madiba.

It said a "technical error" was to blame for the mistake.
