SirKennie13: Hello Fam!
Please, I need your help oooo, am applying to UKZN for a Ph.D. study and fortunately for me, I have got supervisor but currently I need help on how to get my docs to SA for SAQA qualification. A friend of mine asked me to send it through email that he will print and submit for me. Is it possible and what are the other options. thanks. Which state are you currently. Am in Lagos and I will be going to RSA next week. If you can certify your documents and he can come and collect them at Johannesburg, then I can help you go with them. |

geekybabe: My advice, pack the yams well. Don’t put all your yam tubers in one luggage. Spread it across your luggage. Yam can be very heavy so don’t carry too much. In my own case I flew saa and they have more luggage allowance than other airlines. Plantain too should be unripe cos it will most likely be ripe by d time you get here. Don’t carry liquid like palm oil or honey in your luggage because you may get caught and you’ll forfeit everything. Thanks for this. I want to fly SAA too with three allowable checking luggage. I will pack it well |

Juwohn: You can but if you are arriving in OR, chances are that you may not leave the airport with your yam. Their is a new restriction on agricultural projects. On arrival, passengers are randomly picked to scan their bags. If your yam is very clean without sand, you may be allowed to go. Infested beans will not be allowed. Mine has been seized like twice. First time I almost cried, 5tubers ♂️ Thanks so much. Let me try my luck too. |

joybam15: Hello bro, please what are the required documents someone needs to attach . Thanks quote author=slickruler post=74686038]Sorry for the Late response....
I am a Network Engineer. ONce you get your CSA from IITPSA, I think another aspect is in packaging your application. I went over board with my application. Attached all my Professional Qualification. Made sure every document that was required was provided. The Introduction letter, i made them see that they NEED me. I Think Gods grace played its part too. My Visa was out after 17 days of Application and I was giving 5 Years.
Unto Job search.. You just have to be Dogged about it. To get a job from Nigeria itself is crazy. I applied on every known website (LinkedIn, Indeed, pnet.co.za e.t.c). I engaged Recruiters on LinkedIn everyday. Some will respond to you, Others wont. The Ones that responded told you that you had to come over for any body to take you serious. I put in about 10 applications or more everyday. I even applied more than ones in a role.. Rejection after Rejection. I dint give up.
I got angry one day and called someone to get my Tickets for me. Booked my flight for October 2. I was determined to just go and hustle it out. I have my 5 Years visa already why Am i wasting it in naija.. Mind you i had a job oh that paid me above 300k. It was a Gamble and a calculated risk. A friend i met here that assisted in my application advised that i shud chill till January.. It fell on def ears.. I dint mind coming over to even work in a bar ... As God will have it.. I bought my Tickets on Friday. the next Tuesday I was scheduled for an Interview for Wednesday (Zoom) , Did a video Interview with the Global HR on Thursday... Same Thursday i was asked what i wanted as my Pay.... I gave them a Figure.. Dint hear from them on Friday..Was worried maybe i over prized.. The next Monday, I got an Email with an Offer letter with the same Figure i asked for.. My Ticket was bought for 2nd October, I resumed 8th October.
I am sharing this for everybody or anyone that feels discouraged. If you have been Denied. Its not the end of the world. Look at the reason why you were denied and re apply again. Dont give up. The are opportunities here better than Nigeria especially if you are in IT (Developers, Programmers, Network/Security Enginners). I know Nigerians earning as much as 100k rand per month (God go soon do our own). If not for anything, Keep pushing for the future of your Kids. Sorry I dont see things Changing in Nigeria soon..
P.S If this Message touch you, abeg pray for me.. I applied for P.R.P this week. The same God that has established me here will make it a success Congratulations. I enjoyed your story and I learned from it. I will soon finish with my PhD there too. I will apply for PR then. |

geekybabe: Well. You may be lucky like I was. I carried 4 and even carried plantains. . Make sure it is in the main luggage you are checking in and not in your hand luggage. Make sure the luggage is also wrapped and protected with a wrap at the airport. When you arrive at Joburg and pick your luggage, Don’t act nervous or suspicious. There is a possibility the custom guys will want to rescan your luggage. Once u clear, you are good to go. Thanks so much. I will go with some tubers of Yam and plantains. |

Career › Re: Mechanical Engineering Or Computer Science? by Omoocash(m): 11:14am On Oct 17, 2018 |
Gauss15: I'd need a candid advice on this nairalanders. I'm a 300L mechanical engineering student but after my 200L, I noticed I was no more drawn to mechanical engineering as I'd have to do some courses I've no interest in.
So far, the only courses I've come to really like in mechanical engineering is mechanics, strength of material and machine designs. Reason being that I want to major in robotics.
I've had thoughts of switching to electrical and electronics engineering because of my interest in embedded systems. But, it'd take me back to 200l and I'd have to spend extra 2yrs in school. But I thought of borrowing some courses from Elect and then switching over to computer science as I've been into programming that it makes me drop my mechanical engineering's textbooks too often.
Because I had lost some money last year and my detachment from mechanical engineering, I had dropped from 1st class to 2.1 which stands at impeding my chance of getting a scholarship to further my studies in Robotics. I will not be able to come up to a first class unless I borrow tons of courses. Being that scholarships are highly competitive, I'm considering switching to computer science because it harbours my love for programming and electronics. I'm 25, and considering that I'd drop down to 200L as opposed to the 400l I'm heading towards, I was supposed to graduate by '20 but I'd be graduating by '21 if I change to computer science which is just a year difference. By then, I'd be 28.
Am I making the right choice? I really don't have the passion for mechanical again. I need some pieces of advice and possible outcomes of my decision. Guy I will advise you finish with Mechanical Engineering and later do your Master in Mechatronics Engineering in Oversea. I know many that have done that. if your interest is in Robotics, this you can get at Mechatronics Engineering. Or You do your Master in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering; Mechanical and Automation Engineering.... Here you will be exposed to a series of Robotics design and development. DO not quit now, Finish first. |

What will the range look like? I will appreciate candid opinion from the researchers and PhD Candidate and/or Post-doctoral candidate. Any opinion from anyone who has attended a seminar on this can also share.

mcfrank88: Please guys, I am in need of advice from experienced people with SA embassy. I want to apply for a study permit to enable me complete my pilot training in SA, I already have my private pilot license, only going for my commercial pilot license. My issue is I have been made redundant from work for 5months now but I have physical cash to cover my training in SA. This money is not in my bank account as it is cash I recently received from selling a piece of my land. If I lodge such an amount into my account it will definitely be seen as ingenuin fund. My wife is currently working with the government and has her steady salary coming in but don’t have a good balance. 1- Do I pay the money into my wife’s account and have her transfer it into my account then I can say my wife is sponsoring me with proofs of her transfer to me since she has a very good job, with her salary certificate she is good enough to be my sponsor. 2. Do I just lodge money into my account and explain source. Would they expect to see cash flow from someone that has been made redundant from his job for 5months? 3. Any other general suggestions please advise a brother. My advice which was what I did and I got two years study visa with multiple entries. Open another account with your own name and log the money there first , then transfer the money into your account you wish to use. The transfer will reflect from you to you. So, it will be assumed that you transfer the money from one of your account to the other. I transfer mine on the very day I collected my bank account statements which was also the day that I submitted my application and I got it. |

My good people of Nairaland. Thanks so much for all your guidance in this forum. I got my STUDY VISA APPROVED yesterday. It was brought to me in my place of work yesterday by UPS Worldship. Two years was granted instead of four years that I applied for that appear on my admission letter. Though my passport can only accommodate two years but I was given multiple entries. I appreciate all your contributions towards the actualization of this VISA. Thanks |
