I've been driven in a EV Uber and it was small and compact, which I like but also felt a bit flimsy. My friend told me BYD is the brand he would go for, but I'm concerned that there's regional differences (electronics for Africa vs for Europe).

Also long term usage. European and American cars still have a lot of prestige and R&D on them compared to Chinese cars. I'd never get a Tesla, however as I've seen videos of those things catching fire or malfunctioning.

Japanese vehicles come with a lot of prestige because they're known for quality

Prove this legally that the Nigerian Constitution states what you wrote concerning unmarried parents

I speak from my knowledge of the law

https://lawyers-ng.com/articles/child-custody-for-unmarried-parents/

If the Judge sees that one parent is just sending money and doing eye service for the welfare of the child, the primary caregiver will get full custody, period. Several men in this situation have found out the hard way and then resort to immature tantrums for the rest of the child's youth (they'll waste time to pay school fees, delay signing for passport etc). The mother will reveal all to the child and once the child hits 18, the nonsense will stop and the man will become a stranger, then start blaming the mother for his own misdeeds.

(could have sworn that all the wisdom-filled gurus here and offline said that marriage na scam, men don't benefit and baby mama is the way. Anyway, that's bad advise for you: very sweet to espouse for others to foolishly fall into).

Dregs,

I'm pretty sure she didn't want to be a Baby Mama. She wanted to be a wife and a mother but you had other plans. So now she's pissed at you.

It is horrific to be alone with a very sick child and be imagining the father of that child having the time of his life somewhere else. You send money, well that takes precisely 5 mins versus days and weeks of sleepless nights with a sick baby. Yes, you worked hard to make the money, but wouldn't you have worked hard to make that money if you were not a father?

So sending money ain't it.

Now, before you get even further bad advise about forcefully taking your child from her or ignoring her and moving on with your life because the child will look for you when she/he grows up, please stop right there.

Firstly, apologize to her. Single Parenthood is hard and unless you're paying every single bill and sending extra money, she too is handling bills plus a child, all by herself. Apologize sincerely to her for putting her in this situation.

Secondly, be polite and respectful in your conversations with her. Always acknowledge her sacrifice.

Thirdly, any plans you want to bring your child over to you, better factor in the Mother. Ask her if it will be okay, explain the pros and cons of the child coming to you. And give yourself sense: how old is this child? Because you shouldn't take young children from their mothers unless their lives are in danger. If you want the child to relocate abroad, better ask the mum if she wants to relocate too. If you want the child closer to you, plan on renting a place closer to you for her mum.

If the Mother won't give you the child, there's nothing you can do. Legally, na she own the pikin.

Is he a criminal? Like, is there a chance police can arrest him for what he was doing to earn money?

You admit you guys fought until it got physical, that's not good.

You state that he lied about his age, is he older than he told you?

You states he has committed Adultery and you left him before, is that what happened again?

You state that he doesn't contribute financially and is traditional to boot (so he expects you to handle everything).

I know of 2 cases: one was a lady whose husband lied about everything other than his name and his family, and was a criminal to boot. As in, police bundled him away.

And I know of several cases infact, of men and women who declared that they were married to a minion of the devil and that they needed to be divorced to save their lives. Only for me to meet the "minion of the devil" and after spending time with them, realize that their spouses were exaggerating and lying to justify and get validation to end their marriage.

The difference is that when your life is in danger, you don't come online and seek validation to make a decision you are itching to make. You just run and save your life.

If this man is a criminal who lied about even his age, doesn't contribute financially, doesn't help with chores, cheats on you and beats you up (not that both of you fought and traded blows o), has abandoned you and he is a horrible, horrible person, why are you asking strangers for validation? Your parents and family should have packed you out by now. Abi they love you. Even African parents will hear "he is a criminal" and carry their daughter away.

I have a feeling that you're looking for ginger from online strangers. So that means, some parts of your story may not be true. Not saying all of it is a lie, just that there may be some exaggeration and right now, you're too resentful to realize this.

Legally, you can't file till another year. So use that year to ask God to soften your heart so you may forgive your husband. No, I didn't say "reconcile", I said "forgive him". Because Unforgiveness is like you drinking poison yet expecting the other person to die. Forgive him and keep forgiving him and kill the resentment in your heart. Then make your decision on what to do, then.

For your own sake.

I apologise if I'm wrong about this.

Private school fees are astronomical and only the wealthy can afford a decent education in Nigeria via private schools. The new Kings College will act like a Private school whilst still being a Public school, which was how it was in the beginning: quality education for all.

I dislike private education but this public-private partnership will keep Govt workers on their toes as now they know their jobs can be taken from them.

Education › Re: Alumni Mobilize ₦100bn As FG Approves Concession Of King’s College by Onegai(f): 9:39am On Jul 11
naptu2:
Background

I have been talking to senior members of the Kings College Old Boys Association for months and this is basically what's happening.

The Federal Military Government announced the take over of missionary schools in the 1970s. They believed that it was a security risk to put the education of Nigerian children in the hands of foreign missionaries. They handed the schools over to state and local governments.

However, states and local governments have a lot of responsibilities and Nigeria developed serious economic problems in the 1980s and 1990s. The state and local governments did not properly fund the schools and they became run down and were in a bad shape. There was a massive campaign that the schools should be return to their original owners who were able to run them properly.

One of the first actions of the Bola Tinubu administration in Lagos in 1999 was to announce that the schools would be handed back to their original owners.

The return of the first batch of schools was completed in 2001.

The churches, other private owners and former students pumped a lot of money into the schools. Schools that looked like war zones when they were run by the Lagos State Government (no windows, no electricity, etc) were now looking like schools in developed countries.

This caused a bad feeling among Kings College Old Boys. Kings College was founded by the Colonial Government in 1909 and it has been run by the Federal Government of Nigeria since 1958. Some of the most famous people in Nigeria attended the school and it was seen as a model government school. However, it has not been well funded in recent decades. Some schools that Kings College was far ahead of in the 1980s were now soaring far ahead of KC. These schools looked advanced, while KC now looked like the war zone.

These Kings College Old Boys have been campaigning that the government should hand the school over to them so that they can transform it just like the missionary schools have been transformed. They have been touring old boys associations of the returned schools to learn how they transformed the schools, so that the can do the same at KC.

However, there is a problem. Some teachers complained in 1999 when the Lagos State Government announced that it would hand schools back to the missionaries. This was because they were afraid that they would get sacked.

The Lagos State Government and the churches had to assure the teachers that they have a choice to remain in the returned schools or to move to other Lagos State Government owned schools.

Similarly, Dr Oby Ezekwesili tried to concession Unity (Federal Government owned) schools when she was minister of education, but the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) launched a massive propaganda campaign against her because they were afraid that their members would be sacked.

The NUT scared parents by telling them that they would be made to pay high school fees that they could not afford and so the parents also started protesting and President Obasanjo cancelled the programme.
Thank you for the explanation.

I believe most of the Unity schools should be concessioned whilst maintaining them as Public schools.
The Catholic schools have a high standard since being returned to its owners.

Graceland runs a very good Mathematics program, headed by a Yoruba man. There's no year they don't have a top performer, they had one kid called Adoga that in a serious country, he would be sponsored to MIT or Stanford or CalTech or Loughborough by FG.

Education › Re: When Uneducated Minds Change The Education System By Owei Lakemfa by Onegai(f): 6:07am On Jul 08
Nigerian Education needs a massive overhaul.

First, the problem these kids drop out at JS3 is because of finances: their parents cannot afford fees.

So scrap private education, it should no longer exist. Buy every big private school and convert them to public schools.

Upgrade facilities of existing public schools to private school level.

Hold nationwide certificate examinations for all teachers, currently in the public sector, ot has to be CBT. Fire anyone who fails.

Hold nationwide certificate exams for all teachers from private sector. Hire anyone who passes.

All of them will now teach in Public schools.

Revamp the curriculum and bring in Educators from the UK and Asia to retrain our teachers.

Mandatory Lunch program and states should be in charge.

Governors in Nigeria get away with doing so little, let them be held accountable for every child not in school, by deductions from their Monthly state allocations.

Last I checked, the competition started since November 2025. What is happening now in Rome is the grand finale and a school can not just "send" students for the competition.
From available information, Nigeria is represented in the finale by the trio of Onwubiko Chimduebube Victor, Egejurum Onyedikachi Ethan, and Don Anele Munachimso Marvellous from Evergreen College, Enugu, and Diamond Special College, Owerri.

https://www.pulse.ng/story/meet-the-three-brilliant-nigerian-students-representing-the-country-at-the-stem-olympiad-2026070506145730322

Kindly provide a source to this your news so we can stay updated please.
Allow me to explain:

There is not one single STEM Olympiad. There are several, anyone can organize it.

However, dem get levels.

The top STEM Olympiads are: IMO, ISEF, CEE, WRO, FLL, FTC

We don't do well for those ones because you're competing against China, Romania, USA, UK, Singapore, Malaysia.

We cannot touch them right now.

So any school can register for the lower-tiee Olympiads. Which is what private schools in Nigeria are all doing, for prestige.

There's no "Team Nigeria". Your child's school can write exam and register for the finals if they pass. My daughter won Silver 🥈at a pretty good one but didn't qualify for the top Olympiads I mentioned above. My son, I'm training for one of the ones I mentioned above but I need a team of like-minded Nigerian kids to go with him (it requires a lot of money and sacrifice).

Alex Onyia was hyping himself and marketing his business, which is why he said "Team Nigeria". He is a private individual who selected the best of his students to go and compete, same way as other schools selected the best of their kids to compete at the same event.

The same thing happens in Sports: World School Games happens in Dubai, UAE and all the expensive Naija schools went and did pretty okay. However, the kids at Govt schools or less wealthy schools didn't compete. Naija's fastest runner from Ikotun Comprehensive Model College didn't even know the Games existed and that he could have earned scholarship money from them.

A sad reality of an Unfair World.

Same thing happens in JAMB: kids at the most expensive schools don't write it so the JAMB top scorer isn't a reflection of the entire nation because it leaves out an amount of kids who focus on IGSCE and SAT.

All this is happening because we are running Education according to a Parent's financial capability, rather than a Country's Collective Goals.

Your talent is limited by who has funds rather than who has ability.

Until Nigeria scraps Private Education and focuses on Public Education for All, this divide will keep happening. China just scrapped education-as-a profitable-business-model. Finland, Norway and Scandinavian countries do the same.

Our Equestrian riders (all female) are winning rosettes in England so they should be fine. We have male and female polo players as well too doing okay internationally but I don't think Polo is played at the Olympics.

Rugby should have been one of our big sports and we should take advantage of all the Chinese in Nigeria to build badminton courts and set up Table Tennis tables everywhere, so they can train us (because that is their sport).

Sit down with her, plan the future. It won't follow your plan but at least you'll know "in 2028 we are relocating". That will even guide you in buying property (why spend money buying a car when you won't drive it for long, shey you get).

It will also stop her from making one plan and changing. Your family plan will have "how many kids can we have comfortably". What the Lord blesses you with will be smoother when you have a baseline to follow.

Do you have a plan for your family?

Watch this please
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaAXF8vt5rG/?igsh=bHA1b3Z1aDJjbHA0

What is your purpose and plan for your family? Like a business, you know how much you want to earn, how to grown it. Do you have that kind of plan for your family?

You should make one.

Put your wife and children in the plan, as well as yourself. What's the game plan: a healthy family, a family that prays together, a family that owns 10 houses and 1000 cattle, a family that are full of Doctors, a family of musicians...

Write it down.

Then share it with your wife, get her input, ask her what she wants for the family and her life. it's a FAMILY ROADMAP.

Now, start looking at every decision with that roadmap in mind, that both of you know.

"Should I stay at home? How do we handle this event that happened and scared my wife? Should we sell property now, what if we need it in 5 years' time? Should we live in a cramped, expensive place for now, if so how long do we stay here? Are there good schools in that area? Will my family be safer and I can afford this over without getting resentful at my wife? Do I find work that takes me far away from my family? Is my wife's business able to support us if this move doesn't pan out well?"

You both pray together and consult the roadmap.

So that any decision you make, both of you know what the end goal for the family is and make sure your decision supports that goal.

I can't answer your question in this thread, but I think once you have a family roadmap, you'll both know what to do.

Also, the roadmap will help your wife focus on her race rather than keep looking at her friends and comparing her race to theirs. You can tell her when she talks about their "wonderful" lives: "babe, we have our family plan, we will get there step by step."

If a student pays more than a million per term, then paying salary of 200k is worth it.

Some school owners are misers. They have "chewing gum" hand. They collect millions but pay staff peanuts.

If you want to work in a school just make sure your accomodation is nearby, otherwise nothing to save from salary.
Hmm

School owners always say parents owe fees and there are other fees like power, textbooks, materials (my kids' primary school is now using a smartboard for every class and getting a Robotics lab), repair, maintenance and fees for every staff member plus anything the State govt demands. So that will take a huge chunk of money. But at the same time, someone did tell me that if school wasn't a profitable business, people won't be going for it.

There are credit facilities (BOI is one), but Nigerians lack knowledge and more importantly, Nigerians lack integrity.

More than half of them will spend that seed money buying a Lexus, changing their wife's car and sending N500,000 to a Twitter side chic so she can visit them. Before they start working on the project. And there's no guarantee of payback.

This experience made me think.
While many Nigerians spend hours every day arguing about politics, celebrities, and endless social media trends, other people are quietly identifying problems, investing money, building infrastructure, and creating businesses that generate income for decades. They are solving our problems—and earning from them.
These investors didn't wait for perfect roads. They didn't complain about the location being too remote. They saw a community without reliable electricity and turned it into an opportunity. Today, they provide a service people are happy to pay for because it improves their quality of life.
There is a lesson here. Development doesn't always begin with government. It also comes from people and companies willing to see opportunities where others only see difficulties.
Nigeria has millions of intelligent, energetic young people. Imagine if even a fraction of the time spent on social media arguments was invested in learning valuable skills, building businesses, or solving local problems. We would create jobs, improve communities, and reduce our dependence on others.
Instead of asking why foreigners keep making money in Nigeria, perhaps we should also ask ourselves why we often ignore opportunities until someone else discovers them first.
The world rewards those who solve problems. Complaints may trend for a day, but solutions create wealth for generations.
Well said.

Foreigners come here and find solutions to our problems, we run abroad and beg them to accept our best, in exchange for crumbs.

And it is so sad that in 2026, there was no State Government in Taraba that cared about treating their people well. When it is time to vote, mudu of rice to be shared between 3 people and election materials will reach them. But when it is time to value them, the people are ignored

Let's challenge ourselves: go home to your state and find the area that needs electricity like this, find out how much to invest and do a feasibility study. Post here and approach banks, BOI, let's get some loans. Make your money and pay off the loans and build your future

every country in north and South America are a country of immigrants. Do they all have birth right citizenship?

Most countries in the world dont have birthright citizenship. Why should the USA have it?
Because they are a country of immigrants and that was the only way to unite all of them: Brits, Irish, Scots, Chinese, Europeans, African freed slaves. These are the first immigrants who mer the Native Indians there.

Removing this means a President can say someone is in American for political reasons and therefore his/her children won't be citizens even if they were born there.

Removing this changes the Constitution and another President may decide to amend the Constitution (freedom of speech, freedom to arm yourself against an unreasonable govt etc) as he/she feels like.
