Sincere 9gerian: Very shameful indeed. 14yrs after ACN rule and 6yrs of emperor Fashola's reign they'r still looking for FUNDS to complete the Lagos light rail project. Very very shameful. What have they been doing since 1999? And to now imagine that the same project would have been completed in the 80s by Jakande (God bless him)?

While all these are happening the clueless Lagos gangs are still searching for N400billion from the private sector to complete the Lagos light rail project. Very very shameful

I look at it differently. Banks try not to make bad or risky loans. And during Fashola's rule of Lagos, Lagos has improved to such an extent that banks are now willing to finance it, signaling that Lagos has the potential, in the bankers' point of view, to become a world-class megacity like London, New York, Tokyo, where before Fashola, such potential was unimaginable.

Kudos to Lagos State Government and Gov. Fashola, the hope for all of Nigeria.

You're wrong, bros. Africans in South Africa did nothing wrong to be punished with oppression, persecution and exile of apartheid. It could have happened to us if they discovered diamonds, etc, in Naija decades before the independence movement.

True, they don't deserve what they been through. But the fact that South Africa has one of the highest rates of murder, rape, and other violent crime after apartheid from much safer before in apartheid, as well as the fact that the average black South African remains much poorer than the average white doesn't reflect on them well as a people.

Apartheid's end benefitted the minority black elite and professionals and scr3w3d the common black South African in SA.

You mean these countries are not as rich as Nigeria. Being good and and being rich are 2 different things.

If the white man discovers and digs oil for a bamboon, the bamboon would be rich, very simple.

You see, your point is exactly what the EU is reiterating, that, Nigeria has no reason to be poor. As a matter of fact they should stop giving assistance to many African countries, Nigeria being first.

Nigerians steal, mismanage and plunder their economy so badly that to me the the EU and other foreign donors to the economy must be real mugus.

It's like encouraging a bamboon to continue misbehaving.

Nigeria IS better than those countries, a bigger country with a bigger economy means more opportunities. In Lagos, you can find plenty of common people from every West African country coming here to find work.

The EU is just saying that while their institutions and businesses are making it easier for corrupt Nigerians to take their money to Europe or America. They're hypocrites in the fullest sense of the word. The resources of Nigeria is controlled by Western multinationals who reap the majority of the profits and leaves the rest to their corrupt government stooges here in Nigeria.

Nigeria's leaders are generally pretty bad, but look who's propping them up? The Westerners.

Stop spending money on Abuja, it's just a city of white elephants. Lagos State is the heart and soul of the country. More federal money should be used to beautify Nigeria's megacity. It was a mistake for the federal government to leave Lagos. Lagos needs that beautification more than ever.

But things are getting better, thank God. When we have Eko Atlantic completed, maybe the federal government would want to move back down again.

ayox2003: These problems started in the colonial era but our leaders and the people multiplied it.

Okay, the white man took away our culture. Culturally, in Afrika, communal love used to be rife. Your neighbour automatically becomes your friend. Although there were wars but people in small communities had deep love and respect for each other. They rebuked out of love and helped each other in times of need. Farmers formed groups where they worked on each-other's farm to harvest crops and so on. Not so long ago, some folks were sent to school by a chief or an uncle who made it his responsibility to educate and help his siblings and some youths in the community. Immediately the colonial masters came, they came with the slogan "Pull up your socks, nobody owes you anything". The individualistic culture of the West permeated peoples mind. It broke the unity and poisoned the minds of africans. Right now, a politician who was voted to serve/represent a community thinks only about his family. Politicians don't feel they owe their community anything. Its me, myself and my family. No wonder its come chop your own and comot. People don't care about their society anymore. The colonial masters that injected this attitude still feel much more responsible towards their society but the african man has taken it to the extreme. Trust africans, they take things to the extreme, losing their culture and identity.

I dont have time to say more but EU should shut-up! I'm not fan failed leaders including GEJ neither am I in support of corruption.

Frawzey

The most destructive things oyibos did to Africans was poisoning our minds. It doesn't get more evil than this.

In North America, the Native Americans (American Indians) were also destroyed mentally and spiritually, they suffer from alcoholism, drug abuse, domestic violence at an astronomical rate compared with whites.

We can only look to God for justice.

Singapore got independence in 1965 and it is even more developed than many western countries. (Nigeria got independence before them)

According to the British colonial records, Ghana and Malaysia were on an economic par in 1950s. Today, you know the difference between both countries. (And even Ghana that was poor in the 80's is now ahead of Nigeria. You can keep on denying that fact, but it is the fact.)

In one of my previous post on this thread, I said that we can't include Singapore or Malaysia because they are still economically dominated by the Chinese, who are not indigenous to that land. In fact, in Singapore, 70% of the population is Chinese. So the native population was largely displaced, as in the case in North America and Australia.

And it will be better if you stop dodging these questions,

1. Did the EU ask Nigeria leaders to continue stealing after decades of independence?
2. Did the EU force Nigerian leaders to steal Nigerian money and store in European banks?
3. Is the infrastructure, or your so called development proportional to the income Nigeria make yearly?

Yes, the British stole from Nigeria and made it poor. No one is denying that fact. But attacking what the British did decades ago and ignoring what your leaders have been doing for since independence is just making excuse for them to keep on stealing and doing very, very minimal work.

If you want to be fair, make your debate objective and not one sided.

Who is to say that Britain, US, and EU aren't encouraging Nigerian leaders to launder their money in the West? Maybe criticising our corruption is just a guise. It's in their interest that Nigerians are corrupt and that corrupted money goes to their countries. Do you think corrupted governors and ministers are clients of Nigerian bankers? NO! They use oyibo bankers from London, New York, and Zurich. They've stolen from us before openly, now they're stealing from us and we don't even know! Our government is just their puppet!

Stop bashing those who say that whites bear responsibility for the poverty of Nigeria and Africa in general.

If Nigeria has no reason to be poor, than Europe has no reason to be rich. Europe is resourceless with inhospitable cold climate, while Africa is filled with resources and has a very agreeable climate. But why are their places reversed? The obvious is theft and conspiracy on the parts of the envious whites against Africans.

Not only Africa but every country in which the whites colonized and then left (so does not include North America or Australia) an indigenous non-white people, that country is still poor. Look at Southeast Asia, look at Latin America, they are no better than most African countries. BTW, Singapore and Malaysia doesn't count because their countries are still being dominated by the Chinese, who are not indigenous to their countries.

When the colonists left, they left behind a society structure that inhibit competent leadership and economic independence. Instead of the former colonies are still being exploited economically by the white countries. Nothing has changed. Nigeria and Africa cannot develop under this new form of economic slavery. I'm not saying African leaders aren't to blame, but the root of the problem are the whites.
