kaka22: In order to fully understand why USA wants to intervene in syrian crisis, we have to look at what has happened in Syria since the beginning of the peaceful protest before it turned to civil war and the role played by foreign actors. Also,I will use two theories of international politics in my analysis.
1. Realist theory or Realism
2. Idealist theory or Idealism.
SYRIAN CRISIS.
The Syrian crisis popularly referred to as Arab Spring started out as peaceful protest against dictatorship, tyranny, oppression and economic problems. It will be recalled that Arab spring started in Tunisia and later Egypt, libya,Yemen; and now Syria... Arab springs in the countries mentioned above excluding Syria have achieved its aim. Although the aim of Arab spring has led to controversy... The success of Arab Spring in these countries was due to the decisiveness of international community but due to division among members of international community, war in syria still continues...
RUSSIA'S ROLE IN SYRIAN CRISIS.
Since the beginning of Syrian crisis, Russia has been selling arms and ammunitions to Assad led government... Russia and China have blocked many resolutions at the level of security council of UN citing the defects of such resolutions for their actions... Russia argued that such resolutions condemned only one party(Syrian govt) in the war and not both parties.
USA's ROLE IN SYRIAN CRISIS.
Shortly after the peaceful protest in Syria turned to full blown civil war, USA and her allies began to supply the rebels with non-lethal aid. Such aid has been increased due to recent happenings... USA in collaboration with her allies has formulated resolutions that seeks to condemn Syrian government although such resolutions were blocked by Russia...
IDEALIST'S VIEW ABT SYRIAN CRISIS
It should be noted that idealism is about what what ought to be rather than what is. Although some elements of Idealism are applicable in current happenings... Idealism advocates for peaceful resolution of disputes through negotiation and the use of international organisations which explains the continued attempts by UN to resolve the crisis in Syria through its envoy(first Koffi Anan and now Brahimi)...
REALIST'S VIEW ABT SYRIAN CRISIS
Realists see states in international system as selfish actors who seek to protect their interests by whatever means possible... Realism sees the global system as anarchical in nature. Anarchical in the sense of absence of overarching authority to regulate the actions of state. Therefore, each state resort to self help in order to protect her interests... So Usa and Russia's actions are seen as protecting their interests rather than protecting the people of Syria... Following realist's argument, Russia keeps blocking UN's resolution as a result of protecting their interest( money being made by Russia through selling of arms and ammunition to Syrian govt) and USA insistence on interfering in Syrian crisis can be seen as trying to protect her interest(Syrian oil and introducing liberal democracy in syria)...
CONCLUSION.
There is no one way of explaining Syrian crisis... One's point of view will be a product of one ideological or theory's leaning whether realism or idealism... No matter one's ideological leaning, everybody's effort should be on how to resolve the crisis rather than pointing fingers... I rest my case
Thumbs up bro.. I really love your analysis based on the two theories. Nonetheless, you never profer a solution to the 2yrs crisis.

Guy,na true the old man talk. A good example is Lasu. It was one of the worst universities in Nigeria few yrs ago but with the increase in the school fees, they have really changed and things are working out fine. It may look hard but that is the situation our leaders have put us into...they are ready to privatise everything that comes its way.misplaced priority you say, yes, it sucks though, but if that would be the solution. i think we bettter eat the hot pie like that else, til thy kingdom come they would be trading blames and the students are loosing. Remember, lecturers emonulments are paid as at when due.

mubalex50: , I would like 2 support U.S in attacking syria, but attacking syria won't solve d problem otherwise worsen d situation, cox 2 wrong can never make a right, in d case of egypt, dat always happen in d third world society,
I totally agree with you on the issue in Syria..war would never use to stop war neither blood for blood bring an end it but my question to folks around is ..would the war in Syria end in peace at all?? since Assad has a the strong backing of Russia (Putin) whom to my own observation supplied the chemical weapons. So,if the west is not allowed to come in now, it may take several years and by then Russia would regret associating itself with Assad.

You said my mind on Eqypt as well. To me,it was a coup which can be justified because Morsi knew and agreed he failed his people and with his African mentality instead of stepping down, he was ousted, now behind bars causing bloodshed. Anyways, the saga itsef would take long to resolve because the demands of the muslim brotherhood can never be granted. Still watching as things unfolds.

Tunisians are back on the streets again..what's your take??

what could be solution to the crisis in Syria and Eqypt?

Due to the large population both federal and state give priority to first choice candidates.. How much is Ebsu and what about poly? I detest when i see high jamb score with no admission. I know how it sucks and fustrating it might be

Harbioollah: I laugh at the poster above me. The Unilorin i chose, had 242 and 78% in the post-utme and was denied admission while those with less were admitted for the same course.
Unilorin is the last school i'll recommend for a person without connections, except you are from Kwara state.

Unaab is the best for you. We've got a very transparent admission process
Yes,Unaab is very transparent but dude dont't choose them as 2nd choice else, your 400 in Jamb might be a waste. My advice, not sure of the school fees of that school but if its much, like 250k per session, you can port to a cheap private Uni of maybe 300-350k per session because sitting at home for a year and not making a high score in your next jamb can be fustrating.. Lasu is between 250 - 350k so, if a student can afford that and he/she is denied admission he can port to private uni asap.JUST AN ADVICE

EducationRe: NANS Threatens To Shut Down Private Universities Over ASUU Strike by onlyme07(m): 1:11pm On Sep 06, 2013
olivertwist: My friend, I'm not a French so I don't understand what you write up there in quote. If you check again, you'll realise that I didn't mention Dangote or any private business man in my list above. I mentioned public servants like president, V.P, Govs, Senators, House Reps, Ministers etc.

We elected these people to take care of our education system but what do we get back. They steal our commonwealth, impoverish Nigerian public universities by enriching private universities with money stolen from the public.

And the most painful part is the 'systematic discrimination of public schools in Nigeria be it at primary, secondary or tertiary level. The impression that public students are inferior to their private counterparts must be stopped.

The only slight advantage private institutions have over public institutions is that of good facilities and well paid lecturers. If our elected leaders can do the right things, by providing QUALITY education for our public institutions, there will be a level playing ground among Nigerian students.

A situation where an Education minister sends his children to private schools both home and abroad must be stopped. What this means is that they themselves don't believe in the quality of our education. I was priviledged to study both home and abroad and to be honest, we need to invest more in our education.

Infact, the reason why a lot of civil servants are corrupt is because of their children. Most civil servants are beginning to enrol their children in private universities because of strikes in public schools, even though they don't have the means. Because they just want to give their children good education, they'll turn to corruption and start to steal public money.

As they say, if you can't beat them, you join them. But is this the way to go about it?
Well,i agree with you by pointing fingers at our leaders and i think those are the people we should fight and not entrepreneuers or business minded people whom i think are contributing to the growth of the nation.

Imagine,if we don't have private universities in Nigeria. We all know what would have happened.

Now to threat by NANS, i think what they can do is to mobilise students from the different states and match to the house assembly to protest; I bet you,if the students really want to get back to school, they would shut the assemblies down till their representatives talk to the FG and ASUU but since the NANS itself is full of buffons who neither know the right hand from their left, seeking relevance in politics.

Yes,private universities could be shut if FG provides them with funds and since they don't, at least for now, they should forget the idea of shutting down private Uni.

My question is... are we afraid to face our leaders, tell them the truth and shut down the country? If yes, then we would be where we are till thy kingdom come and if NO,we should stop talking but ACT.

Who would front the protest?.. My brother, though am in a private Uni,if i see serious minded students who are fearless, not clowns and ready to bring change, i stand to tell you, I AM READY.
Are you??
EducationRe: NANS Threatens To Shut Down Private Universities Over ASUU Strike by onlyme07(m): 11:26am On Sep 06, 2013
olivertwist: MY assumptions after going through most comments above is that:

1) Most NLs that are against NANS threat are family members of the elites who can afford to send their children to private universities or maybe,

2) Most of them are just sympathetic with GEJ at the expense of Nigerian poor students or maybe,

3) Most of them don't really understand what 'Hell' it is, to be a University student in Nigeria or maybe,

4)These set of people don't realise that, David Mark, Tambuwal, OBJ, GEJ, Ameachi, OUK, Tinubu,Sambo, IBB, Fashola, NOI, SLS, Okorocha, Tony Anenih, all senators, govs, house reps, ministers, special advisers (SA) to president, SA to govs, commissioners, etc will never send their children to public universities, hence, no one cares if Poor public university students stay at home for 4years or not.

5) Finally, without disrespecting anyone here, I strongly believe most commentators on this topic are either secondary school drop-outs who are now into trading of some sort (hence the beafing of uni students) or perhaps, they are half-baked graduates who are govt paid agents like Beaf & co.

Lastly, I strongly support ANYTHING that will put a final end to strikes in Nigeria universities.

For those saying or thinking NANS threat is just an empty threat, remember, an Idle mind is the devil's workshop. If these guys are pushed to the wall, the middl east problem will be like a joke.

Govt needs to do more for Education in Nigeria. No more mouth service.Enough is enough.
Ferme la bouche..

Seems you need to check what the word 'private" means before you post your next comment.

Yes,education is not in a good state which we all agree to but how does it affect a man who invested his/her resources to establish one, and don't forget student unions are not allowed in the private institutions or when the teachers go on strike does it affect the private ones.?

So,you mean if Dangote should complete the refinery and other refineries in the country are not working as expected..NLC would shut his factory down abi? You must joking or signed your will because the man wiuld not joke with $9b.

I bet to disagree. Oduduwa University Ipetumodu is the cheapest and most liberal in terms of payment of all private universities in Nigeria. We pay 178k per semester (except mass com and computer science +30k) & hostel accomodation. It is not a missionary UNI either.

Very educative and interesting but my question is...who do we blame and how do we resolve the issue of emphasis on 'certificate'? As you said, one can become an entrepreneur without huge capital. I totally agree with you but do we patronise locally made goods? Lots of young graduates know they have nothing doing in school, they just have to go since they would be mocked and would never be recognised if "oga at the top does not". Fustration.!

To me..it all boils down to our greedy leaders who forget to build the nation & become mentors to the younger generation rather become heros to thugs. Just glad they realised they have failed us
