Why did Trump gaslight and stonewall and try to prevent the release of the files for so long this year?

I have seen Trump do this type of stunt several times. He will tell those who care to listen, "I did nothing wrong". Democraps, liberals and the lot of them will still try to pin something on the man. They follow the dead corpse like a fly into the grave! Eventually, he's often proven right. Then, he will tell them, "Trump is always right".
