As part of the peace building process in the Federal the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in light of the planned anti-government protests, the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, July 27, 2024 held an interactive town hall meeting with residents of the FCT.


Addressing the residents during the Town Hall, the FCT Minister said it was organized to provide an avenue for dialogue with various stakeholders in the FCT and to give them the opportunity to air their grievances, rather than taking to the streets to protest against the government.


The Minister said protests would not solve any problem in the FCT but would rather create an opportunity for hooligans to take advantage of the situation to create a crisis.


He warned that the FCT Administration will not allow any protest that is geared towards destruction or to overthrow the government and cautioned residents against aligning with those he described as faceless protesters.

The Minister acknowledged that FCT residents have a constitutional right to protest, but cautioned that such protests must be done within the ambit of the law.

I was at MTN office Ikotun this morning as early as 7:30am to get a sim swap. Lo and behold, I met an overwhelming crowd. Almost all the people there had their sim card blocked over the weekend.

The MTN staff addressed the crowd and told them the fault is from NCC who authorized TELCOS to bar people's lines.

Why would NCC be frustrating Nigerians when there's anger already in the land? People need their lines activated for business activities. People who are supposed to go their businesses are crowded at MTN offices because of their lines. I learnt some people came as early as 3am to the office just to get numbers. I couldn't get number because I came by 7:30am. I also learnt MTN staff there worked on Sunday yesterday.

Government should better do something fast before it escalates to something else.
Below are some pictures I snapped. I left there some minutes ago because I couldn't stand any longer. The crowd is overwhelming!!

This is utterly bizarre. Are they merely cannon fodder, expected to die helplessly? Without adequate weaponry to counter terrorist attacks in the field, were they supposed to engage the enemy with their bare fists?

There's a thing called retreat, even armed soldiers know when to fall back and regroup to launch a counterattack. Let alone those without sufficient ammunition. As someone astutely put it, perhaps they should return home and do something else with their lives.
