Been the best teacher don’t mean you can’t affect the business negatively. You’re to do your job as a professional and your boss/owner has to handle the business side too and the saying customers is always right shouldn’t be underestimated if you want your business to grow. Try and be open minded and see things from other perspective. Your boss isn’t totally right with some personal behaviors but business wise, you either listen or leave.

The typical African mentality of "customers are always right" is totally erroneous. Have you forgotten that teachers are also part of the growth of his school business? You can't have standard or population if your staff are not good, so if you begin to put customers are always right by undermining your staff, you'll run down your sch

That’s what education shud be like.. Flogging of students should be prohibited in every school, because It doesn’t add any value to the child as seen in Nigeria today..

The flogging by teachers has not made the future of the students better in any way..

Nigerian Teachers should only teach and not go beyond that.. No students need their uneducated discipline.. After all the teachers will not employ the students or give money to start a business..

This is not a good position. I can relate very well. I learnt from my experience.

At my first jobs, I was very dedicated. All Mt employers love me and the staff cos I put my fellow staff first before anything. I don't like taking credits even when I know its my concept that makes the success.

So more task was given to me cos " they trust me to handle it'". My boss will not have any cause to worry anytime I'm handling things, she will sent me to most of her top meetings. I knew her secrets and many more.

Because of that, the burden of success of the organisation was left to me, if anybody did not perform they all look at me like its my fault, why? Because no one said I'm the official team lead, but they expect me to play team lead role. I can't get angry, anytime I'm passed she will say other look up to me so I should not get angry.

What I did not know it " to whom much is given, much is expected". So the work became over burden, I was doing too much for the organisation, seems like I was partners with the ceo. Funny thing Is because I was over working, so I had the tendency to 1. Easily burst into anger because I was doing much work and other don't, and guess what,.. that's a big minus on my side cos as far as anyone is concerned, I was the one that got angry 2. Much was expected from me and I was expected to absorb all pains cos "I'm the leader" 3. Others can make excuses cos nothing much is expected from them and it will be like " just leave them" but I can't do same cos it will turn into something else.

Fast forward to when I got fed up, I got into a Seruous issues with my boss as a result of outburst of anger when I was overwhelmed by too much work and I see no one helping much. The Funny thing is they are not in the position to get angry so they were in good terms with the boss, but me that got angry,...no one considered all the work I was doing... the only news about me that was told to everyone and beyond us that " I disrespected my boss" case closed!

Now all of the are still working there. Even though I got a far better job... it was a lesson..

So in my new job, I don't do more than I can carry. I refuse to be any "natural leader " let everybody be lazy cos at the end..the lazy ones will have no black remark but you that much is expected from.

Pleasant Greetings to all Nairalanders,

Earlier today, I made a post wherein I complained about my Employer's incessant, unsolicited and unwarranted calls particularly at odd Hours. I also laid some other complaints. However, I noticed a few commenters didn't get the exact point I was driving at. I'm by God's grace, a rational & objective kind of person. I'm an embodiment of factualism, I'm an empiricist.
For clarity sakes, here are some of the many Shortcomings of my Employer:
✓ First, He violates my right of Privacy by calling me almost all the time & at odd Hours like 11pm and 5am only for inconsequential reasons.
✓ Secondly, He takes sides with Parents and learners in conflictual situations, at the detriment of his staff even when there are glaring evidences that the teacher is actually right. And as result of this, parents & learners have become emboldened to do even worse. Teachers get abused and insulted by parents & nothing is done by the management.
A JSS2 student had the guts to tell me that I was so broke & couldn't buy an Android phone, reason I'm using a torchlight phone. I eventually bought a brand new Android phone, & same student told me that the phone was a second-hand phone. I didn't flog the student & I never reported the matter to the sch mgt. I only advised the student stop such. I was surprised when my Employers heard about it but never called the learner to order or even apologized to me. In fact, they stylishly took side with the learner & were defending the student. The saddest part is, if it were me who told a student that they are Broke, the parents of the learner would have fought me the next day and my employers would have lambasted me so badly. Another Student once told a teacher that he wore an Okrika shirt. He wore a fake shirt. You can imagine such audacity.
✓ Thirdly, He indulges me in administrative tasks even when I'm not a management staff. I consider it unprofessional. On any Saturday, he would call me to join other two management staff to interview Job seekers. He sends me to represent the school at Official functions.
✓ As a teacher, you're not at liberty to scold your students, else it could be misconstrued to hating on the Child. If a student is caught cheating in exams/test, you can not discipline or deduct or cancel it. You can only verbally warn the child.
✓ If any parent says he wants a female/male teacher to be the class teacher of a certain class, the sch obeys instantly.
✓ A learner who is meant to repeat a class isn't repeated by the sch. And as they progress from the one class to a higher class and learning becomes tougher, they begin to fail and when they fail and a teacher complains, they put the whole blame on the teacher, labelling the teacher a Failure for allowing his learners to fail.
✓ They have continued to admit dullards into classes they shouldn't admit them into and it's all posing a serious challenge to us.
✓ I teach mathematics for four classes. In each of this classes, we have almost 20 students and I am meant to teach, give class work, home work and Mark their notes everyday when I am always having 7 consecutive periods each working day. I must not fail to mark their notes. How can I do this when there's no space for me to mark on the timetable? 7 Periods in a row.... Also, I have the highest workload in the entire sch. I have 28 teaching periods in a week.

I'm tired Nairalanders. Help me out.

What does your contract states? 9am-5pm or unlimited work hrs. Start by not picking his calls after closing time, he would get the message. I worked in such school and he called around 9:00pm, I didn't pick, she got the message immediately. Learn to draw the line. Start now and while you are at it, start your own business.

7:20 to 3:40pm

This man will call me at 11pm in the night and 5:00Am very early in the morning. We see everyday since I work for everyday and I feel whatever he has to tell me can always wait till we meet one on one. But he will never wait, he would rather call me at odd hours.

Be more formal in your dealings . If you are displeased with things, don't hide it , find a way to say it. All these you have written may be difficult to say verbally, you could pen it down and send to him.

If all you mentioned here are true, then you need to ease of the job by resigning.
You can look at personal tutorials since you know how to teach maths.
Most private schools exhibit same trait, if you think you will be treated like an angel elsewhere, that's a big joke.
Also try to improve yourself, as you need more raise financially. I can guess you are still single. To keep a hom, you need to do well than you are earning currently.
