chinchum: enough of the back and forth, it is you that needs to ask questions and also ensure you answer them objectively. I earlier said many Nigerians are averse to change and very stiff minded to ideas challenging conventional beliefs, that is all over your posts. Even firewood comes at a cost for most of the users , I said earlier the number of the household barely matters, except for very high numbers , yet u still kept mentioning family of 4. you will find out that for so called poor households, there is negligible difference in cooking patternof family of 1 or family of 4, in such households u will barely see cases of each member of the family cooking different meal at different times. I even doubt the cooking will be thrice in a day for obvious reasons. I have used myself as an example, my cylinder was refilled 3 months ago, and it is yet to be exhausted, I am not saying it is going to be the same for every household cos there are days I am not home, but nevertheless 1month+ is very realistic. man by nature likes to resist change ,even when he barely understand the rationale guiding the change, but the essence of education is to teach you to be open minded, so u can learn and relearn. Suit yourself man! |

chuksmad: Its a lie mister, 12.5kg gas cylinder to refill is 4000, and average usage of 1 month if u re very economical. Most poor people can not afford that exactly, a 12.5kg for a family of 4 won't last a month. |
Health › Re: EDUCATIVE: Dangers of Cooking with Fire wood by opeaceo: 6:33pm On Aug 14, 2015 |
chinchum: the size of the family barely matters, more often than not the meal for the household is cooked once, whether they are 1, 3, 5 or 10, as long as the meal fits in to a single cooking pot. There is a very good chance it would last well over a month, even if the family cook thrice in a day.. I bought my last refill may 15, and it is not yet finished, although I don't cook heavily seriously?? a 12.5kg gas lasts over a month for a family of 4?? I think you need to ask questions. |

chinchum: it doesn't have to be given to them for free, virtually every poor family has at least a mobile phone., a household can afford to buy a gas cylinder, if it wants, the same way it can buy a mobile phone., while a mobile phone will last at most 3-4years, or even stolen in matter of days, or spoilt in matter of months, if it buys a gas cylinder of at most 8,000 naira , it can be used for over 20 years. refilling a 12.5kg cylinder fully costs 3,000 naira roughly, I bought mine 2,600 the last time. . all things being equal a filled 12.5kg can last a month or more sef. for a light cooker like me, I use a 12.5kg cylinder for 3 freaking months on the average. the so called poor people needs to be taught to activate their latent common sense. the stress, strain, and the resultant health complications and even treatment costs outweighs the myopic firewood culture., they look up to educated ones like u to enlighten them, it is important you don't fail them. for a family of 4 or 6, a 12.5kg cylinder won't last a month. |
Health › Re: EDUCATIVE: Dangers of Cooking with Fire wood by opeaceo: 9:42am On Aug 14, 2015 |
chinchum: I don't get ur point. if it finishes, they can refill na. abi if firewood finish, they no dey buy another one. in fact there is nothing stopping a family from saving up 8,000 to buy a standard 12.5kg gas cylinder, or even 5 to 6k to buy a fairly used one. no excuse please. a cylinder for the family that can last 15years or more. baba, no excuses, I think the problem is more of poverty of good reasoning, such kind of poverty abounds in the educated and well to do minds too. You're still hammering on the gas cylinder, assuming it was given to them for free, they'll use around 9k to refill in two months, that is huge. |
Health › Re: EDUCATIVE: Dangers of Cooking with Fire wood by opeaceo: 10:56pm On Aug 13, 2015 |
chinchum: the how many people can afford gas cylinder statement is a fallacy. A 12.5kg brand new gas cylinder cost less than most mobile phones in the hands of Nigerians, it is roughly 8k. , moreover they don't have to buy that size, there are other smaller sizes , even 3kg gas cylinders, that can't cost more than 2.5k the problem is more of ignorance, and a culture some people have being averse to change. they'll refill the gas won't they?? and a 3kg gas cylinder won't last a month for a family of four. |

princeemmac: Thats where companies like techno oil comes in they are building a 5m a yr gas cylinder plant. This will make gas much more affordable, and help propagate the use so that you and i can have it, just like we used to buy sims for 50k now sims go for N200, the more the products in circulation, the cheaper Hopefully, it comes into fruition. |

The writer of the article is promoting the use of gas which is good, but how many people can afford the gas cylinders?? Kerosene is the preferred alternative here and not gas. |
