Nairaland / General / You Need To See The Baby This Woman Delivered After Being Pregnant For 4 Years by Opeedo(m): 5:18pm On Jan 31, 2016
After reportedly being pregnant for four years, A 33-year-old woman identified as Oluwabunmi Ogidan has delivered a baby on Wednesday, January 27.

According to The Nation, The town of Ikugbomire in Obafemi Owode local government area, Ogun state became a tourist town as people were rushing in from different places to Alayo Vantage Hospital from far and near t catch glimpse of the miracle baby.

She had gotten married to her husband, Bankole Ogidan on August 27, 2011 and in 2013, there were signs that she was pregnant.

Narrating what happened, her husband said: “We went for pregnancy test and it was confirmed positive. A few days after, my wife complained that she was feeling pains in her womb. We went to a midwife who told us that the pain was not a problem; that the pregnancy was intact. I was not satisfied, so I took her to another hospital (name withheld) where we did a scan but the doctor said he didn’t see any pregnancy. The doctor said there had been a miscarriage. I asked him that shouldn’t there be an outflow of blood if she had a miscarriage? The doctor said yes. I told him that we had not witnessed anything like that and he was shocked.”

He said they ran to their pastor, Prophet Emmanuel Ogbara, who assured him that God had told him the pregnancy was intact.

They returned to the hospital and were told that she had multiple fibroid in her womb with no chance of conception.

“All this while, my wife’s menstruation had ceased. It was only once after the pregnancy was sighted that we observed that little blood came out but stopped almost immediately. We left there for the Government Hospital in Owode, Ogun state,” Bankole said.

Meanwhile, Oluwabunmi’s stomach had protruded as if she was due for delivery and she had become the gossip of the town’s people.

Bankole explained that on September 10, 2015, his wife became ill with labour signs and he took her to the hospital. She was treated and asked to go for scan.

To the glory of God, the doctor here said he had seen a baby; that my wife was carrying four months pregnancy. At the church, the prophet confirmed again that the child had all along been there; only that scan could not pick it. So the hospital continued to nurture the baby for antenatal. But here again, they still saw fibroid in the womb. But to the glory of God 27th January this year, our baby finally arrived,” he said.

But before the baby was born, it was said to have “got lost” in the womb.

The hospital’s matron said: “We had to do an operation. When we did, we found that contrary to scan reports, we met a different thing in the womb. It was a sac with pus inside. It was not fibroid. And looking inside, we didn’t see any baby. But I remembered that I used to hear sound inside Mrs Ogidan’s womb, so the doctor searched further; the baby was hidden in the uterus.

“We thank God. It’s a miracle. The sac was so big that it swallowed up the uterus where the baby was. The sac was so big that the uterus could not be easily found. The doctor said he had never seen such a thing before.”

Dr Sam Akinyemi, a consultant on naturopathic gynaecologist described the situation as “an abnormal medical record.”

boko1

The successful attack, killing of such number of people and large scale destruction of property including killing of livestock and cattle is coming despite repeated government claims that Boko Haram has been degraded and that they don’t have the capacity to assemble or carry out any insurgent activity except through suicide bombings.

It will be recalled that the military on learning of the Boko Haram attack on Dalori on Saturday night, dispatched troops to engaged the Boko Haram sect members which resulted in a fierce gun battle.

According to our source the terrorists attacked Dalori and another village Walori at about 7pm, and had a field day, looting and killing villagers for over an hour before the military arrived.

The source said the villagers who had always been on the alert for the insurgents, were deceived by the fact that they came in Hilux Vans and were dressed in Camouflage hence they (villagers) mistook the terrorists for troops on patrol.

It was further gathered that bodies of those killed were evacuated to the Borno State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

“Several others whose numbers were estimated at 70 who received gunshot, machete injuries, etc, were also evacuated to the two hospitals”, the source said.

Politics / I Will Not Celebrate My Victory - Governor Seriake Dickson by Opeedo(m): 10:08am On Jan 19, 2016
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state on Monday, January 18, disclosed that he wouldn't celebrate his victory in the recently concluded gubernatorial election in the state

Dickson stressed that January rerun election in Southern Ijaw local government and other local government areas of the state was akin to war but thanked God the state survived the onslaught.

The Sun reported that he also accused his main rival of the All Progressives Congress, Timipre Sylva for allegedly engaging in extreme heartless politicking.

The state governor further stated that due to loss of lives which he said were unnecessary, he could not celebrate his victory in honour of the departed souls.

Dickson expressed his displeasure while fielding questions from reporters in Abuja saying that he was thankful that the will of the people prevailed in the end.

He called on Sylva to defeat as the will of God and should shelve his idea of going to court.

“My opponent’s campaign was nicknamed ‘Operation Takeover’ but our people stood by us. Women formed walls with their bodies around polling units in order to protect their votes. What happened in Bayelsa is therefore a significant development for our democracy. Nigeria’s democracy is on track and it also means that Nigeria will not be a one party state,”
he said.

Governor Seriake continued by saying:
“Whenever I think of the deaths of our own people, most of them killed because they supported me, I feel terribly sad and asked the people of the state that although their will prevailed and I won, we have to keep it low as a mark of honour to those souls who deserve to live and benefit from the democracy they contributed to enthrone.”

Nairaland / General / How Atiku Gave Me N500 Million For Campaign – Gov. Bindow by Opeedo(m): 9:52am On Jan 19, 2016
Atiku-Abubakar
The Adamawa State governor, Muhammad Bindow, on Monday gave insight into why he dumped the former governor of the state, Murtala Nyako, and shifted loyalty to the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

As I have said, it was God That gave us the mandate, and the people of Adamawa voted us into power. We are working for the people of Adamawa and we would continue to do so. I can swear to Qur'an that what Abdulrahman Abba said is true.
No single indigine of Adamawa State gave me even N10 as contribution during my campaign, except Turakin Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar. If you want us to say it, we were given some funds from the national headquarters (of APC)

After the victory of President Buhari at the polls, Turaki called me, asking if we had any challenge I told him we don't have any problem. We depend on God. No problem, sir.
Then He said "what about the issue of ellection?" Then I replied that I would call the secretary of the party, Abdullahi Bakari, who told him that we needed some funds to deal with the House of Assembly and Governorship elections.

He (Atiku) asked how much did we need, and he (Bakari) told him N300 million. The following day, Turakin called Jauro. I was at home when Jauro met me and announced that he had a message for me from Oga (Atiku). I asked where was the "message"? He said the "message" is somewhere. When we got there, he gave me N500 million.

Nairaland / General / We Will Ban Hijab If Suicide Attacks Continue –buhari by Opeedo(m): 5:22am On Dec 31, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday said the Federal Government will ban the use of Hijab in the North-East if Suicide attacks using women continued in the region.

President-Muhammadu-Buhari-.jpg
President Muhammadu Buhari

The President also said the government had no reliable information on where the Chibok girls are of if they are alive.

The President told a team of journalists during his maiden Presidential Media Chat that the “honest truth” was that the whereabouts of state of the girls were unknown.

He, however, said the Federal Government was keeping all options in a bid to free the girls. One of the options, according to him, is negotiating with Boko Haram, which abducted the girls from their school more than a year ago.

He said, “There is no firm intelligence where those girls physically are and what conditions they are in but what we learnt from our intelligence is that they (terrorists) kept on shifting them around so that they are not taken by surprise and they get freed.

“And a whole lot of them are not in one place and we don’t know how many divisions they have and where they are. There is no intelligence to say that the girls are alive and in one place. That is the honest truth.”

Commenting on the continued blasts in the North-East, President Buhari said, “We will have to ban the Hijab if this (the suicide attacks) continues.”

The President said he remained committed to fighting the anti-corruption war and ensuring that the constitutional rights of Nigerians were protected.

On the recent clash between the nigerian army and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Buhari said he did not respond immediately because he was waiting for investigations to be concluded.

He said, “I was in touch with the governor of Kaduna State. Interestingly, the President of Iran spoke to me about it and I told him that as a government, we have a system. This thing happened in one state of the country and the governor has visited the area.

“We have a system of investigation as well as the military and as the head of the Federal Government; I must wait for the official report before I can come out and make a statement. So I am waiting for the Kaduna State Government and the army to come up with a report. It does not mean that the police and the DSS are not doing their role of finding out what actually happened.”

The President also defended the foreign exchange controls put in place by the Central Bank, saying, “We need power, railways, roads… These are our priorities; not people looking for money to bring in rice (to the country).”

He also said he needed to be “convinced” before accepting calls for the devaluation of the naira.

Buhari also faulted the agitation for Biafra, insisting that all regions were represented in his administration.

He said, “Help me define the extent of marginalisation. Who is marginalising them? Why? How? Do you know? … The constitution said there must be a minister from each state. Who is the Minister of Petroleum? Is he not Igbo? Who is the Governor of Central Bank? Is he not Igbo? Who is the Minister of Labour? Who is the Minister of Science and Technology? Who is the junior minister of education?”

Politics / Media Chat: The 14 Things Buhari Said by Opeedo(m): 5:14am On Dec 31, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari held his first Presidential Media Chat on Wednesday fielding questions about some of the key issues in the country from the whereabouts of the Chibok girls, the Nigerian Army-Shiites clash and pressure to devalue the naira.

Here are some key comments by the President:

On the clash between Shi’ites and the Nigerian Army in Zaria and his silence

i. I have allowed the army and the Kaduna State government to come up with their reports before I come out to speak on the clash. This does not mean that the police and the DSS are not doing their part.

ii. The situation in Zaria is very serious… How can one group create a state within a state?

On the state of tertiary institutions

I don’t like the idea of University students sitting on windows to receive lectures.

On whether he actually promised to pay unemployed youths N5,000

I cannot come here and deny that.

Foreign exchange restrictions

I. We need power, railways, roads… These are our priorities; not people looking for money to bring in rice (to the country).

II.Foreign exchange will be made available to the productive sector of the economy and not for luxury items.

On calls for the devaluation of the Naira

I need to be convinced about devaluing the Naira.

On asset declaration

I declared my assets four times… I don’t have to ask them (Code of Conduct Bureau) to give you the asset declaration… You have a constitutional right to the documents.

On the continued bomb attacks in parts of the North-East

I. The Hijab will have to be banned if this (the suicide bombing) continues.

On the debate about fuel subsidy

By the end of the next quarter, we will not be talking about subsidy. How much is the price of

fuel (in the international market) now?

Reported plans by the National Assembly to spend billions on cars

I cannot see the National Assembly spending N45bn to buy cars on top of the transport allowance they collect.

On the pace of the anti-corruption war

I. Our major constraint is that accused person must go to court first and under such circumstances, we cannot prejudge what the courts will do but there are documents and how the government will react through the Ministry of Justice will determine what we will do because what we are going so we cannot determine issues while they are still in court.

II. If any member of my cabinet is corrupt, I will sack the person.

III. Members of the cabinet are supposed to declare their assets.

On whether funds have been recovered from looters

I. Money has been recovered but the fact that whatever we recover will end up in court because Nigerians will always want to know the truth and the truth will be what the courts have discovered by the submission made to them in terms of bank statements where money was recovered, where money was lodged, when it was lodged, how it was lodged whether it was money from petrol, customs and excise or money directly from the Central Bank. When we do that I think Nigerians will feel a bit better.

II. It is a very nasty situation that we are in, but we cannot fold our hands and not do anything; we are doing our best.

Chibok girls

We are keeping our options open. We are prepared to negotiate with boko haram for the girls… There is no firm intelligence where those girls physically are and what conditions they are in but what we learnt from our intelligence is that they (terrorists) kept on shifting them around so that they are not taken by surprise and they get freed. And a whole lot of them are not in one place and we don’t know how many divisions they have and where they are. There is no intelligence to say that the girls are alive and in one place. That is the honest truth.

On the agitation for Biafra over alleged marginalisation

We have boko haram and then Biafra. Help me define the extent of marginalisation. Who is the junior minister of education?

On the continued detention of suspected looters and alleged violation of court orders by the DSS

You can see the type atrocities that those people committed against soldiers and the country. The former president goes to the governor of the Central Bank and say, ‘give N40bn to so, so, so… And then he fails to account for it and you allow him to go and see his daughter in London while and you have two million people in IDPs, half of them don’t even know their parents. Which kind of country do you want to run?

And the one you are calling Kanu. Do you know he has two passports – one Nigerian, one British – and he came to this country without any passport?… There are criminal allegations against him and I hope the court will listen to the case.

Culture / Isoro Cult Members Seize Ooni’s Second-in-command’s Dead Body by Opeedo(m): 1:36pm On Dec 20, 2015
News reaching TheNews.NG reveals that the corpse of Obalufe of Iremo Quarters, Ife, Oba Solomon Omisakin, has been seized by cult members believed to be members of the Isoro cult group in Ile Ife on Friday for some hours before the remains were released for burial.

Solomon Omisakin
Solomon Omisakin
TheNews.NG learnt on Saturday that there was confusion at the Iremo Palace of the late Obalufe, who was the prime minister of Ife. He was the head of the Ife kingmakers who administered Ife during the interregnum created by the demise of Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

Obalufe died on October 15 shortly before the new Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, was announced as Sijuwade’s successor.

Sources told journalists that the initial rumour in Ife on Friday was that members of Ogboni Confraternity were the ones who seized the corpse. However, they later revealed that those who seized the corpse had nothing to do with Ogboni.

When contacted on the telephone by our correspondent, the Obadio of Ife, Oba Olajide Faloba, who is the head of the Isoro cult denied that his group knew nothing about the incident.

He disclosed that Obalufe was not indebted to Isoro in anyway, saying he would have been informed if those who seized the corpse were members of the cult.

But different sources confirmed to our correspondent that the corpse was seized by the cult, who demanded N500, 000 and other items from children of the deceased before they could be allowed to bury their father. The seizure caused a delay as the family could not bury the dead in the morning the interment was scheduled.

TheNews.NG that the family members paid some undisclosed amount and bought some items for sacrifice for the members of the group who disrupted the burial before the remains of Obalufe were interred later on Friday evening.

How do they operate?

Our Editor noticed that within minutes of publishing stories about Mrs Iweala, her foots soldiers quickly dropped defensive comments attacking anyone who who wrote anything against her and praising all articles in her favour. This occurrence made our inquisitive editor to trace the source of the comments and similar comments on other blog

Politics / Meet Kogi State New Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu by Opeedo(m): 2:29pm On Nov 22, 2015
In our usual habit of delivery quality, current and undiluted news, TheNews.NG has done a background check on Prince Abubakar Audu, The winner of the recently concluded Governorship election in kogi state was twice the Governor of Nigeria's Kogi state. His first tenure was from January 1992 until November 1993 and the second from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003.

Prince Abubakar Audu, former Governor of Kogi State was born on 27 October 1947, to the family of his Royal Highness, the late Pa Audu Oyidi, Orego Atta of Igala Land and the paramount rule of Ogbonicha-Alloma in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

He began his early education at the then N.A. Junior Primary School, Alloma, and later N.A Senior School Ankpa, from where he proceeded to Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. He however completed his Secondary School Education at Jos Commercial College.

From 1975 to 1978, Abubakar Audu proceeded to London where he studied banking and personnel management, obtaining professional qualification as a certified secretary; and a Fellowship of the Association of International Accountants of London, as well as the fellowship of the chartered institute of industrial administration of Nigeria.

Abubakar Audu began his working career by spending a total of 25 years with the First Bank, formerly Standard Bank, where he served in different capacities at management levels until 1991. He made history as the first black training officer for the bank and one of the first black senior management staff of Standard Chartered Bank in London and New York.

He was thereafter appointed Commissioner for Finance and Economic planning in the former Benue State in 1986 serving in this capacity for two years. When that council was dissolved he went back to First Bank of Nigeria Plc as General Manager.
In 1991, Abubakar Audu was appointed Executive Director of FSB International Bank PLC. It was at this point of his career that he got into politics. He thereafter contested in the gubernatorial elections and he won under the platform of the National Republican Convention(NRC). He thereby became the first executive Governor of Kogi State in January 1992.

It is worthy to note that during his tenure, he transformed the infrastructural landscape of Kogi State. He touched virtually all the sectors of the economy, housing, electricity, roads, Education, and Health care services.

Some of his achievements during his 1st term of office includes the establishment housing schemes for public officers, the construction of both rural and Urban roads, electrification schemes and water projects.
Also included in his achievements is the founding of Kogi State Polytechnic, the establishment of a television station, radio station, both AM and FM, a state newspaper and the transformation of the colonial residence of Lord Lugard into an Ultra Modern Government House Complex, the construction of office blocks for ministries as the new state had no office accommodation, the construction of shopping arcade complex to enhance commercial activities among others.

Due to his performance during his first tenure, Abubakar Audu again contested for the Governor position and he won under the platform of the All Nigerian People’s Party(ANPP). He was sworn in on 29 May 1999 as the 2nd Executive Governor of Kogi State.

Abubakar also saw to the establishment of Obajana Cement Factory.. During the visit of former President Bill Clinton to Nigeria, the State Government signed the agreement with the US Trade Development Agency (TDA) for a grant to finalize the feasibility work on the project. The cement project is now operational.

Audu's greatest undoing however is his pride.

Abubakar Audu's incurred the wrath of the cictizens of Kogi State by the renaming of the Kogi State University after himself, and the rechristening of same as Prince Abubakar Audu University. As a sitting Governor, he was defeated in 2003 when he sought re-election by a virtually unknown businessman; Ibrahim Idris. The populace did not give Abubakar Audu their votes because they were tired of his pride and highhandedness. The first thing that Ibrahim Idris did after winning the election of 2003, was to restore the name of the said university to Kogi State University.

In 2007 when election bells rang again, Audu went to the polls, and was again defeated by the then incumbent - Ibrahim Idris. Abubakar Audu thereupon went to the Election Tribunal who nullified that election, and ordered fresh elections. Again, Audu contested against Ibrahim Idris, and again, was defeated.

In 2012, Audu again contested against a new comer to the field, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada, and again Audu was defeated.

There are many allegations of misappropriation of public funds against Audu. Immediately after handover in 2003, and the constitutional effluxion of his immunity, Abubakar Audu was arrested by the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and he appealed.

That notwithstanding, he again indicated his intention to contest for the Kogi Gubernatorial elections coming up in November 2015, haven won the primaries under the platform of the All Progressive Congress(APC).

Nairaland / General / N18,000 Minimum Wage Is Too Nuch, We Cannot Continue Paying Govs Cry Out by Opeedo(m): 4:03pm On Nov 19, 2015
The Governors of 36 state of Nigeria today resolved that they can no longer pay the N18,000 minimum wage to workers due to the poor state of the economy.

workers
Rising from a important meeting on that ended at the early hours of Thursday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja under the umbrella of Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, the governors said that the dwindling prices of oil had drastically affected their States’ income.
Specifically, they said that the burden of the wage was lighter when oil sold at $126 as against the current $41 per barrel.

They therefore sought to have audience with President Muhammadu Buhari on the economy, resolving that the only way out of the quagmire was to diversify the economy to agriculture and mining.

Reading the communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Forum and governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari hinted that the Forum also backed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over the N2.1trillion sanction on MTN.

According to him, the governors agreed that the fine must be paid in full.

He said that they received briefing from the Acting Executive Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NCC, Professor Umar Dambata who explained the matter to them.

He said:
“We resolved that we must look at ways to enhance revenue generation and at the same time look at ways to cut our overhead costs more especially the political office holders’ salaries and other overhead expenses.

“The situation is no longer the same when we were asked to pay N18,000 minimum wage, when oil price was $126 (per barrel) and continued paying N18,000 minimum wage when the oil is $41 and the source of government expenditure is from oil, and we have not seen prospects in the oil industry in the near future.

“We will diversify our economy in the area of agriculture and mining. But at the same time, we should understand our situation where some of us (states) today are taking N100million take home (monthly allocation) and then have salaries in particular of over N2billion to pay.

“We therefore agreed here to take this suggestion to NEC in our meeting tomorrow(Thursday) so that we can be able to find ways to tackle this problem.

“And we are looking at coming together to discussing with Mr. President and his team, with governors, technocrats and experts in the economy to see how we can tackle our troubled situation. We are working harder to deal with it.

“Hence the MTN has accepted that they committed the offense and has apologised, and they are looking for leniency, we the governors forum decided to support the NCC to abide by the laws of the land and the laws of our land do not not give leniency to deliberate offense to our nation.”

Yari also revealed that the forum also received a presentation from the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) which will help in boosting mechanised agriculture and improve small and medium businesses especially in the rural communities.

Politics / Drama As Tinubu Tries ‘takes Over’ Ekweremadu’s Seat by Opeedo(m): 3:11am On Nov 19, 2015
There was mild drama on the floor of the senate on wednesday, when senator for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party created an hilarious scene on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, when they stopped the member representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, from addressing the chamber from the seat of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The drama happened when the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, asked the wife of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress to second a motion moved by Senator Kabiru Gaya, who was seeking the approval of the red chamber for him to submit the report of his committee on the $200m foreign loan being sought by Lagos State.

Mrs. Tinubu was seated on Ekweremadu’s seat who was conspicuously absent from plenary when she was asked to second the motion.

However, no sooner than she put on the microphone on the seat of the deputy senate president than the pdp senators, protested against her action, and insisted that she should relocate to her seat to speak.

Attempt by Mrs. Tinubu to explain that she was on Ekweremadu’s seat because the microphone on her own seat was not working was rebuffed by the pdp senators.

She left angrily for her own seat and attempted to use her dysfunctional microphone to convince the pdp senators that she was speaking the truth.

Mrs. Tinubu then went to a seat close to hers, and sought the permission of her neighbour to make use of his microphone.

It was after she got the permission of the senator sitting beside her that she was able to address her colleagues.

She nevertheless returned to Ekweremadu’s seat and sat down there for over one hour the plenary lasted.

Meanwhile, the Senate on Wednesday inaugurated the Senate Committee on Appropriation and six other standing committees.

The committees and their chairmen included Appropriation, Danjuma Goje (APC-Gombe Central); Finance, John Enoh (PDP-Rivers Central); Banking, Insurance and other financial institutions, Rafiu Ibrahim (APC-Kwara North); and the Independent National Electoral Commission, Abubakar Kyari (APC-Borno North).

Others are committees on Public Accounts, Andy Uba, (PDP-Anambra South); National Security and Intelligence, Sha’aba Lafiagi, (APC-Kwara North); and Communications, Gilbert Nnaji, (PDP-Enugu East).

Inaugurating the committees, Saraki urged the members to hit the ground running in view of the need to reposition the economy.

He urged them to be innovative in the discharge of their oversight functions.

He also advised them to observe ethical standards in the discharge of their duties, adding that any committee member found wanting would be adequately dealt with.

He said, “The Senate will continue to support the committees particularly in terms of funding. We are also assuring government institutions of our readiness to work with them in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.”

Saraki added that the Ad hoc Committee on Legislative Agenda would be charged with the responsibility of monitoring the performance of the committees.

Politics / Court Rejects Fresh Application By Saraki To Stop CCT Trial by Opeedo(m): 2:11am On Nov 19, 2015
A Federal High Court in Abuja on wednesday rejected a fresh application by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, seeking an order of interim injunction to stop his trial on charges of false asset declaration before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Senator Bukola Filed a fresh fundamental rights enforcement suit is the third which the Senate President has filed before both the Lagos and Abuja divisions of the Federal High Court to stop his trial since September, when the Federal Government filed the charges against him.

Our correspondent learnt on Wednesday that Justice Abdulkadir Abdul-Kafarati on Monday (November 16) refused to grant the order of interim injunction sought by Saraki through an ex parte application.

Rather than grant the ex parte motion moved by the Senate President’s lawyer, Mr. Ajibola Oluyede, Justice Abdul-Kafarati ordered the respondents to the suit to appear before the court on Friday to show cause why the prayers sought by Saraki should not be granted.

A copy of the court order sighted by our correspondent on Wednesday showed that the fresh suit was filed by Saraki the same day a similar one which he filed before Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court was struck out for lack of jurisdiction.

Justice Buba had struck out the suit on the grounds that it ought to have been filed in Abuja where he said was the place issues that were being complained of by Saraki arose, instead of Lagos.

The order of Justice Abdul-Kafarati, made on November 16 after hearing Saraki’s ex parte application, came barely four days after the Supreme Court on November 12 granted an order of stay of proceedings on the Senate President’s trial before the CCT.

The Justice John Fabiyi-led panel of the apex court had halted the CCT’s proceedings pending when Saraki’s main appeal challenging the competence of the charges and the jurisdiction of the tribunal to try him would be determined by the apex court.

Saraki had in the ex parte application sought a number of prayers asking for an order of interim injunction to halt his trial on 13 counts of false asset declaration before the CCT.

But in refusing to grant the restraining orders sought by Saraki, the judge ruled, “That the respondents are hereby directed to appear before this court on Friday, November 20,2015 to show cause why the orders in the motion ex parte will not be granted.

“That the matter stands adjourned till the 20th day of November 2015 for the respondents to appear to show cause.”

The new suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/905/2015, has the same set of 11 respondents, like the old one.

The respondents include the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase.

Others are the Code of Conduct Bureau, the CCT; the CCT chairman, Justice Danladi Umar; Mr. Ataedzeagu Adza, CCB chairman, Mr. Sam Saba; Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Diri; and a Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr. Muslim Hassan.

Saraki was arraigned in September before the CCT on charges of false assets declaration which he allegedly committed in 2003 while he was Kwara State Governor.

In the fresh suit, he seeks as he sought in the former suit a declaration that his trial at the CCT falls short of the requirements of Article 3 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights and Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution.

He said there was a “clear appearance of bias” against him, as well as an “apparent pursuit of a pre-determined agenda for the humiliation and conviction of the applicant.”

The Senate President sought an order nullifying the charges at the CCT and an order restraining the tribunal from continuing with his trial.

The applicant prayed the court to restrain the AGF, EFCC, Saba, Diri and Hassan from continuing with the trial at CCT or any other judicial forum.

He further sought a declaration that the
“obvious subjugation and use of the respondents against the applicant for the political objectives of the ruling political party at the federal level, the All Progressives Congress, amounts to an exercise of executive power for ulterior motives and not for the public good…”
