Politics / I Will Continue With Jimoh Ibrahim When We Meet Face To Face - Fani-kayode by Opeedo(m): 11:08pm On Nov 24, 2016

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, says his war of words with businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, will not end on the internet.

Fani-Kayode has threatened to deal with Ibrahim, when they see “eyeball to eyeball”.

Both men exchanging banter on social media, after the Court of Appeal sacked Ibrahim and reinstated Eyitayo Jegede as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fani-Kayode mocked Jimoh for losing his appeal at the Supreme Court, before taking the advice of his followers to end the exchange.
Some of his tweets below:

“I have given Jimoh the pig enough of my time. I will tell him the rest face to face whenever and wherever I see him. I look forward to that.

“Finally I hear that Jimoh the pig just lost his appeal at the Supreme Court and that he has been referred back to the Court of Appeal. Poor little piggy. We better leave him alone. He has far more to worry about now than my tweets. As promised when I see him eyeball to eyeball we shall continue this. That is a date and a promise that I will most certainly keep.

“Out of deferrence to my followers I have decided not to continue to engage Jimoh the pig any further. Thanks for your concern. Shalom.”

Politics / Breaking: ASUU Strike Is Over - by Opeedo(m): 7:29am On Nov 23, 2016
The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Tuesday confirmed that it had ended its one week nationwide warning strike over the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.

The President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who said this in Abuja, urged lecturers to return back to their classrooms.

“We are making progress especially with the intervention of the Senate and in the next one or two meetings, if we are able to get a clear path to the matter, we will avoid the elongation of the strike.

“I have been receiving these reports that ASUU says strike continues, no, the strike ends today (Tuesday). All lecturers are to go back to work on Wednesday morning.”
Ogunyemi said ASUU was hopeful of a positive outcome going by the response coming from the Federal Government.

Nairaland / General / TB Joshua's Prophesy: Hillary Clinton Actually Won US Presidential Election by Opeedo(m): 9:16am On Nov 10, 2016
I laugh when I observe some misguided people attacking Prophet TB Joshua that he predicted a "fake" outcome for the US presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Even those who don't know anything about prophesies were joining to attack a man of God. Sigh!

I even had to caution Reno Omokri this morning, telling him that as a pastor he should know better than to attack a Prophet. Why? TB Joshua said Hillary Clinton would win the US election with a very small margin.

TB Joshua never said Hillary Clinton would win Electoral College. In fact, TB Joshua probably do not know what his called Electoral College because other countries of the world were elections are conducted (including Nigeria) there is nothing like Electoral College. The winner is determined by normal voting and Hillary Clinton defeated Trump in the normal voting.

As a Prophet, TB Joshua saw that Mrs. Clinton won the election by a small margin during voting and he said exactly what he saw. Simple!

So was TB Joshua right? Yes! Hillary Clinton won the US election by a small marging.

Latest report from America...
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton finds herself moving ahead in the popular vote, according to the latest numbers that emerged this afternoon.Mrs Clinton got 59,293,087 votes nationally, to beat Trump who has 59,131,346 — she defeated him with a small margin of about 160,000 votes. What this means is that, because of what they call Electoral College in America, Mrs. Clinton will become the fifth U.S. presidential candidate to win the highest vote, she defeated her opponent, but couldn't make it to the white house due to Electoral College issue.

So those mocking Prophet TB Joshua ignorantly, be careful for your own good.

Politics / Shame, Edo State PDP Chairman Caught Sleeping With Prostitute by Opeedo(m): 10:45pm On Nov 02, 2016
The naked picture of Edo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Dan Orbih, has hit the internet.

According to a Facebook page, Corruption Concern, which posted the unbelievable picture, the highly respectable politician got entangled with a prostitute who decided to retaliate by publishing his naked picture while snoring. The picture was captioned:

”See what our so called leaders become in the hands of prostitutes. This is a lesson to all of us.This is the PDP Chairman in Edo State
They said he refused to pay the lady and she waited for him to snore and took this picture in the hotel and ran away
Good for the fool. All the money they’ve stolen makes them feel they can get away with anything.”

The controversial post which has garnered about 2,262 shares has got lots of people talking. While some are saying his face was superimposed on the naked picture, some think it is just an attempt to pull the Edo PDP chairman down. But looking through the comment section, we observed a comment from one Kemi Oyeniran saying it happened some 5 years back, hence it’s not recent. And that the lady in question was killed. Read the comment below:

”Heard this happened like 5yrs back that d lady in question was killed. Information not from me but wat pple said where this same pix was posted.”

Business / Nigeria Steps Up Naira-yuan Swap Deal by Opeedo(m): 8:24am On Oct 11, 2016

The lingering Naira-Yuan swap deal is set to be achieved as part of strategies to reduce the huge dollar demand and pressure on the local currency.

Nigerian officials and those from China are currently meeting to fine tune the deal, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, said.

According to the Guardian newspaper, Emefiele gave the indication at the ongoing International Monetary Fund/World Bank Group yearly meetings in Washington DC.

According to him, there is a lot of “networking meetings going on, and I can assure you that meetings are going on with some of our partners, particularly, China.”

He said there would be positive outcome and noted that some of the meetings included the Managing Director of IMF as well as the World Bank Group, in an effort to achieve some of the objectives.

“I believe in the course of time, we would achieve it. Nigeria happens to be one of the foremost countries in the world that adopted the Remimbi as a reserve currency.

“We would work together with China, to ensure that we also get our fair share of the benefit from this arrangement,” he said.

The deal was meant to assist in easing the pressure on Nigeria’s foreign exchange, foreign exchange reserve which has been declining rapidly.

From a peak of over $50 billion during former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s era a few years ago, when crude oil was selling at over $100 per barrel, to the present low of about $25 b as oil price hovers around $50 per barrel.

China has Yuan swap arrangements with 28 countries worldwide, including financially sound nations like the Kingdom of Great Britain and Australia.

Basically, the Naira/Yuan currency swap would allow Nigeria borrow Yuan and lend naira for purchases from China by simply short circuiting the process of converting the Nigerian currency to dollar before further conversion of the dollar to Yuan.

Nairaland / General / DSS Releases Arrested Judges by Opeedo(m): 8:09am On Oct 11, 2016
DSS, arrested judges,The Department of State Service, DSS has released all the judges arrested during a nationwide raid of their residents at the weekend.

The judges, according to DSS sources were released on self-recognition but are to report at the agency’s office when requested to, as the investigation and preparation to charge them to court continues.

The judges were accused of corruption and had been under investigation by the DSS.

A spokesman for the DSS, Abdullahi Garba, explained shortly after the raid on Saturday that the service embarked on raids of the Supreme, Appeal and High Courts judges’ residents based on allegations of corruption and other acts of professional misconduct.

According to him, “the Service action is in line with its core mandate, as we have been monitoring the expensive and luxurious lifestyle of some of the Judges as well as complaints from the concerned public over judgment obtained fraudulently and on the basis of amounts of money paid.

“The judges involved were invited, upon which due diligence was exhibited and their premises searched.

“The searches have uncovered huge raw cash of various denominations, local and foreign currencies, with real estate worth several millions of Naira and documents affirming unholy acts by these Judges”.

The DSS spokesman further explained that some of the judges had made useful statements while a few declined even with the glaring evidences that were found against them in terms of material cash, documents and property recovered pointing to their compromise.

“In one of the States where the Service operations were conducted, credible intelligence revealed that the Judge had Two Million United States Dollars ($2,000,000 USD) stashed in his house.

“When he was approached for due search to be conducted, he in concert with the State Governor, mobilised thugs against the Service team.

“The team restrained itself in the face of unbridled provocative activities by those brought in by the Governor.

“Unfortunately, the Judge and Governor also engaged the tacit support of a sister security agency.

“The Service surveillance team noticed that upon frustrating the operation, the Judge with the active support of the Governor craftily moved the money to an unknown location which the Service is currently making effort to unravel,” the statement read, remaining silent about who the governor was.

Politics / Oyegun Disowns Anti-tinubu Protest by Opeedo(m): 8:04am On Oct 05, 2016

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr John Odigie-Oyegun, has distanced himself from protest on Tuesday by some youths against a national leader of the party, Chief Bola Tinubu.

The All Progressives Congress Youths Democratic Frontiers (APCYDF) in Abuja protested at the National Headquarters of APC against Tinubu’s demand for Odigie-Oyegun’s resignation.

Tinubu had on Sept. 25 accused the APC national chairman of wrongdoing in the gubernatorial primary election of the party for forthcoming governorship poll in Ondo state.

But the protesting youths accused Tinubu of high-handedness, saying that he was behaving like an “emperor’’ in the party.

The APCYDF National Coordinator, Mr Salahudeen Lukman, who led the protest, accused Tinubu of undermining President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption fight.

“It should be stated categorically that we are no longer comfortable with the whims and caprices of Tinubu,’’ he said.

Odigie-Oyegun dismissed insinuations that he instigated the protest and expressed displeasure over the reported protest against Tinubu.

He promised to investigate the incident with a view to finding out those behind it.

“God forbid, anybody who knows me knows that that is not my style. I am equally shocked and I’m going to look into it and find out why and who is behind it,’’ he said.

On the just-concluded Edo governorship election won by APC’s candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki, the chairman described it as a referendum on the performance of the party’s government in the state.

According to him, the result of the election is a clear indication that Nigerians have faith and confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

“Well, it was a hard fought election that was clear. Two things really, it was more of a referendum first on the performance of the governor, and second, on the quality of our candidate.

“And, most importantly, given the economic situation, it was an opportunity for us to measure the continued popularity and acceptability of our president.

“What it indicated is that by and large, the people of this country still have faith and confidence in the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari can fix their situation,’’ he said.

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its two-month old strike and called on workers to return to their duty posts with immediate effect.

In a press statement jointly signed by the NLC chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adeka and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Comrade Danladi Namo, the organised labour in the state said their action was in compliance with the agreement reached between the Unions, Government, Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.

It stated that Government has also honoured its part of the agreement by reverting to the old salary structure.

It would be recalled that workers in the state embarked on the industrial action to protest the downward review of their salaries by government as a result of economic downturn.

The statement read in part: “That payment of shortfall of the proposed new salary structure and the old salary structure for the months of May and June, 2016 has commenced with effect from Wednesday, 7th September to Friday, 9th September, 2016.”

The organised labour also stated that the issue of July and August salaries shall be addressed as the negotiations continue.

Nairaland / General / My Father Busy Seeking Attention – Oduah’s Son by Opeedo(m): 4:20pm On Sep 02, 2016

One of the son’s of Senator Stella Oduah, Tuoyo Etoromi Oduah, has taken a swipe at his father and husband to the ex-minister, Satchie Etoromi, saying he will rather be a bastard than be called his father’s son.

The young man released a statement on Friday, where he labelled his father as “attention seeker” while also denouncing him.

Tuoyo accused his father of resorting to seeking attention in the course of his brother’s death.

While reacting to the claims by his father, he said he was not told of the death of late Maxwell Etoromi by his family members. He said he called his father on the day of the incident to inform him.

Maxwell Chinedu Etoromi died a week ago after he took a wrong medication prescribed for him following a tooth surgery.

The 28-year-old, died at a Turkish private hospital in Abuja.

Tuoyo further noted that there would be no connection between him and his father after issuing the statement.

The statement reads, “I feel so heartbroken and distraught that during our time of mourning for my beloved brother, I have been reduced to issue a press statement against my biological father, Mr Satchie Etoromi.

“Life is serious. It is not a Nollywood movie. This is madness. This is evil. This is defamation. This is attention seeking. This is opportunism. This is shamelessness. This is jealousy. This is abnormal. This is bitterness. This is shocking!

“Buwa and I were the product of a short and abusive marriage that ended almost 30 years ago. To a man with many other wives and children. Stella Oduah is the only father, mother, carer and provider that my brother has ever known. The Oduah family is the only Family that he has ever been part of and Akili Ozizo in Anambra state is the only hometown he has ever had.

“I called Mr Satchie and the Etoromi family to inform them immediately my brother passed. I offered flights, accommodation and special care for him or the representatives of the family throughout the funeral. I offered to build a relationship and have a new start.

“I was happy and optimistic. But i was wrong. Instead of asking about his dead son, he proceeded to use my brothers passing as an excuse to shamelessly insult my mother just like he is doing now, issue death threats and even ask for dowry from almost 30 years ago.

“This is madness. Mr Satchie Etoromi’s motivation is not love, not grief, not reconciliation, not to reach out but to seek attention, bitterness, revenge, jealousy, abusive tendencies, possessiveness and maybe even genuine madness.

“Mr Satchi Etoromi, I beg you with God to please leave us alone forever and let Buwa rest in peace. May God have mercy on your soul on for what you have just done. I wanted to forgive and reconcile but your recent actions and character have revealed that it is better to be a bastard than be your son.

“This will be the first and last time that I will acknowledge and respond. Any further public words and actions from Mr Satchie Etoromi will be addressed through legal means.”

Nairaland / General / Trending Video: Fake Naija Soldier Cries For His Life by Opeedo(m): 7:07pm On Aug 01, 2016

A Nigerian civilian wearing a camouflage found himself in the soup at a location suspected to be along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway when he was apprehended by soldiers.

Soldier

Although the date of the incident is unknown, a video of the earlier parts of what transpired was posted on Facebook on Sunday, and it had generated well over half a million views as of Monday afternoon.

Asked where he bought the camouflage, the civilian said: “I bought it from the road. From Ibadan. Around toll gate. I just saw them displaying it.”

However, one of the soldiers brought out a handkerchief, insisting that the civilian could never have seen its camouflage on the road.

“You can never see this one for road,” the soldier said.

But after receiving a slap for his explanation, and after another soldier said “oga bring that rifle make you fire hin leg first“, the civilian confessed to have bought it at Kontagora.

Told that he would be shot in the leg nevertheless, he went into fits of “oga please, oga please; save my life, oga please.”

When it appeared the soldiers, numbering at least five, were bent on shooting him in the leg as one of the them had corked a rifle, he grabbed the nearest soldier and used him as a human shield, begging profusely.

“Oga please, oga please; I’m not leaving,” he said when asked to leave the human shield he was clinging to.

Eventually, the soldiers, with one of them still holding a rifle, told him he was free to go. But he refused, fearing he could still be shot.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he cried. “My motherrrrrrrrrrr!!! I’m not going anywhere. I’m not leaving this place. I’m not leaving.”

When the soldier being used as shield succeeded in freeing himself, the civilian grabbed another.

He hadn’t been shot when the two-minute-forty-six-minutes video ended, but it is unlikely that he was shot, as the soldiers laughed hysterically while he pleaded not to be shot, giving the impression that they were just catching their fun.

But with the army’s history of brutalising civilians, there is also the possibility of keeping the worst action from the camera; perhaps the threat was indeed carried out after the video recording.

The Nigerian army frowns at indiscriminate wearing of of camouflage — an offence, which under Section 109 of the Criminal Code, is punishable by one-month imprisonment or a fine of, wait for it, N10.

In 2014, part of a letter to celebrities, purported to have emanated from the army, read: “This is to inform the general public and most especially Nigerian celebrities to abstain from the use and abuse of the Nigerian Military camouflage. Several investigations were carried out and we noticed the camouflage is mostly being used by Nigerian celebrities in music videos, photo-shoots and concerts.

“In this [sic] same videos and photo sessions, Nigerian celebrities like ‘Jesse Jags’ smokes [sic] marijuana while putting on the Nigerian Military camouflage. Henceforth, any civilian found GUILTY of putting on the camouflage irrespective of their social status will be dealt with severely.”

Although the army denied writing the letter, Olajide Laleye, its spokesman at the time and brigadier-general, said it was indeed a crime for civilians to wear the camouflage or any other uniform of the army.

“…there is a law which prohibits all civilians from wearing the Army camouflage and this law binds the celebrities too,” he said.

“Celebrities who want to wear the Army camouflage should seek permission and it will be granted. Daddy Showkey is the only celebrity to have applied for permission to wear the Army camouflage; others just put it on at will and it is wrong and punishable.”

Nairaland / General / 30 People Dies As Trailer Tumbles In Lagos by Opeedo(m): 5:35am On Feb 08, 2016
No less than 30 male passengers lost their life in the Adeosun area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday after a trailer conveying them tumbled down the road.
The accident also left over 50 other people with serious injuries , while two rams were killed.

The accident occurred on the portion of the expressway which had been recently reconstructed.

Our correspondents counted 25 corpses at the scene of the accident. Eyewitnesses said about five corpses had been taken to a mortuary.

Other victims of the accident, which occurred around 7am, were not removed until past 9am.

A victim, who lost two relatives, covered the faces of the deceased with clothes and broke down in tears.

Shouting the name of Allah as he wailed, the victim identified simply as Mohammed, refused all entreaties as he knelt down between the two corpses and wept bitterly.

One of the survivors of the accident, who gave his name as Mohammed Seripino, said the trailer was coming from Kaduna and had travelled all night.

He said each passenger paid N1,000 as transport fare, adding that the journey from Kaduna was smooth before the accident occurred.

“We are all Hausa. We were coming from Kaduna. Each passenger paid N1,000. This (accident) is not good,” he said.

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Yinka Dada, said he was seeing off his son, who was on his way to Lagos, when the accident occurred.

He said, “I saw everything. I was by the roadside when the accident occurred. I was with my son who was going to Lagos when I saw two vehicles speeding as if they were competing in a race.

“The other vehicle was able to control the wheel, while the driver of the trailer lost control, tumbled down the expressway, and spilled out the passengers one after another.”

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps at the Ibadan Tollgate Unit, who came for rescue operation, refused to talk to our correspondents.

“We cannot talk to you now. I am not the boss here. I have bosses who can talk to you later if you come to our unit at the tollgate. You can see we are busy now,” an official told one of our correspondents.

A police patrol van with two officials also visited the scene.

One of the policemen in the van told those with minor injuries to help those with critical injuries into the police van.

However, some sympathisers said the responses of both the police and the officials of the FRSC were poor, and began to rain curses on Nigeria’s political class.

An Electrical Engineering student of the Abdul Gusau Polytechnic, Zamfara, who did not disclose his name, said government should be blamed for the poor response to the plight of the victims.

The student said, “Our leaders have embezzled all the money that should be used to put infrastructure in place. This is why people are dying like rats.”

A middle-aged man, Onyekachi Otuonye, lamented rescuers’ response time to the accident.

Otuonye said, “This is deplorable. Even slaves should not be treated like this. Human lives should be treated with respect and dignity.”

A man in a cleric robe, who attributed the accident to witches and wizards, was shouted down by some sympathisers.

When the man brought out a book of his predictions on the accident that would occur on the road in 2016, sympathisers warned him to stop, saying there were no witches on the road.

One of the sympathisers, Biliaminu Awodele, who confronted the cleric, said, “Accidents happen all over the world, nobody dey blame witches and wizards, abeg, carry your yeye prediction commot here!”

However, the FRSC said 17 people died in the accident, while 79 others were injured.

The Oyo State Sector Commander, FRSC, Yusuf Salami, said the accident involved an articulated vehicle and a Peugeot J5 vehicle.

He explained that both vehicles were travelling to Lagos, adding that the accident was caused by impatience, speeding and struggle for right of way.

He said, “A Peugeot J5 with number plate, XS 626 LSV, and a DAF articulated vehicle with number plate, AA 902 MML, had an accident as both drivers were struggling for the right of the way. They were both going to Lagos when the accident happened around 9.30am on Sunday. It happened just before the campus of the Dominion University in Sepo, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“There were 96 people involved, with 17 confirmed dead. It is obvious that both drivers were speeding and suddenly lost control of the vehicles. The Peugeot bus was loaded with passengers and goods, but the casualty figure rose because the other vehicle was travelling to Lagos with huge number of illegal passengers.”

Crime / Barber Kills Own Mother During Argument by Opeedo(m): 5:21am On Feb 08, 2016
A barber, Ibrahim Oluyinde, is currently undergoing questioning with the Lagos State police command after stabbing his mother to death.

TheNews.NG learnt that Oluyinde, an indigene from Abeokuta, Ogun State, allegedly killed his mother on Friday accussing her of being responsible for his father’s death which occurred sometime last year.

Our correspondent learnt that at about 2pm on Friday, Oluyinde, paid a visit to his mother in her rented apartment on Bunmi Christopher Close. TheNews.NG was told that the duo were indoors until an argument erupted.

The mother, whose name had yet to be ascertained, was said to have raised the alarm, and thereafter begged her son not to kill her.

Neighbours were said to have rushed to the scene where they saw the woman in a pool of blood.

Ibrahim reportedly fled from the area, while the neighbours reported the matter at the Oko Oba Police Division.

TheNews.NG learnt that the suspect was, however, nabbed on Saturday by the police.

When our correspondent visited the area, one of the neighbours, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Ibrahim had lost his father to sickness only last year, and might have stabbed his mother to death on the suspicion that she was responsible for his father’s death.

The neighbour added that the woman was a mother of three, and Ibrahim was the second child.

He said, “It was last year that the woman moved in with her husband. She was about 57. She was a goldsmith. One of her grandchildren – the daughter of her first daughter – was staying with her before this incident happened.

“The father, however, died last year from sickness. He could not talk for some time before the sickness eventually claimed his life.

“At about 2pm on Friday, I was in the kitchen when I heard some sharp cries from the woman’s room. She was calling on neighbours for help.

“Others and I went to the woman’s door; it was locked. So, I went round and opened the window, I saw Ibrahim’s hand; it was wet with blood, but he refused to open the door.

“We asked him why he attacked his mother; all he said was that it was his mother who killed his father. We were all shocked. The man is a barber. He plaits hair too. He, however, managed to escape. The police later arrested him and brought him to the house on Saturday.”

Another resident,Kolawole gave his own account, “The woman had a granddaughter staying with her. She is about one year and four months. The toddler was crying while Ibrahim attacked his mother. It was God who saved her; perhaps she might have been attacked too.

“The strange thing is that the duo had not fought before in the house. Ibrahim did come once in a while to check his mother. He is the second child. He has an elder sister and a younger brother.

“When I got to the woman’s room on Friday, he had run away through the back door. We forced the door open and met the lifeless body of Ibrahim’s mother on the floor. He stabbed her several times in the neck.”

Meanwhile The police have arrested the suspect for allegedly killing his mother on Friday. He is to be transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation

Nairaland / General / Meet The Twin Sisters Who Are Married To The Same Husband by Opeedo(m): 2:06am On Feb 05, 2016
Wonders, they say, shall never end. It’s true. Unlike the identical twins in a previous story where one stabbed the other after they fell in love with the same man and only one of them got him, the twin sisters in this story have agreed and decided to share the same man in love without any fight.
The twin sisters from South Africa have actually gone ahead to marry him after he acceded to their requests, and with polygamy being accepted in their country, the marriage took place in a big way.
According to The Drum, for identical twins Owami and Olwethu Mzazi, it was their life-long dream to marry the same man. They stated that during their childhood days, they shared everything, washed the dishes, played, and went to school together. They even bathed side by side.

One of the twins, Owami, told the magazine:
“We have always done everything together…that is how our grandmother raised us. So when we decided to marry, we said any man that wants to marry one, will marry the other.”
