42 suspected members of Boko Haram were today Nov. 6th released to the Borno state government after investigations carried out by the Nigerian army showed they had no ties with the sect.

Presenting the released suspects to the state governor, Kashim Shettima, the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations of the 7 Division, Col. Sanni Usman said investigations showed the men who were arrested at various times in Maiduguri and other parts in Borno state, had no connection with the sect. He announced a donation of N100,000 each from the Nigerian Army to the released men to help rehabilitate and reintegrate them back into the society.

Receiving the men, the state governor thanked the army for conducting a thorough investigation. He also gave cash gifts to all the released men. 39 of the released suspects were Borno state indigenes while the remaining three were foreigners from Chad, Burkina Faso and Cameroon.

Nairaland / General / First-class University Graduate Jailed For N1.92m Internet Fraud by Opeedo(m): 11:35pm On Nov 05, 2014

A graduate of Lead City University, Ibadan, who passed out with 1st-class honors has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment after pleading guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.

Olakunle Akanni was sentenced yesterday Nov. 4th at the Ikeja High Court in Lagos for defrauding a 77 year-old American woman, Diana Huizenga, of over 12,000 dollars through an internet love scam.

One of his accomplices, Adesina Akinsola, 30, was also given a similar sentence by the judge but adjourned the sentencing of their co-accused, 30-year-old Dele Oshuntogun, till Nov. 17.
There are reports that the convicts entered a plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Lawal-Akapo consequently sentenced them to one year imprisonment on each of the counts.

He said the sentences were to run concurrently beginning from the day the judgment was delivered.
“The first defendant, Olakunle Akanni, is to pay the sum of N2 million which is the equivalent of $12, 820 to the victim (Huizenga), as restitution. Also, the third defendant, Akinsola, is to pay the sum of N500, 000 to the victim as restitution,” the judge ordered.

He also ordered them to write an undertaken to be submitted to the EFCC that they would be of good behaviour upon their release from prison custody.

Mrs Zainab Ettuh , the EFCC counsel, narrating the facts of the case, told the court that the convicts committed the offences between December 2010 and February 2012 in Lagos.
She said Olakunle Akanni falsely presented himself to Huizenga as one Robert Lewis, a white American living in Nigeria, who was in love with her.

According to her, "the convicts used the “love scam” to fleece the woman and even invited her to come to Nigeria with $90,000 before they were apprehended".

Mrs Zainab Ettuh said their offences contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2003.

Celebrities / Frustration Led Me To Do 'akpako' Music -terry G by Opeedo(m): 9:40pm On Nov 05, 2014
SOURCE: http://bangingnews.com/2014/11/frustration-led-me-to-do-akpako-music-terry-g/

Terry G's success story is one that leaves many in awe. As some say, he makes music out of 'nonsense'. In an interview with Leadershipng, the talented instrumentalist and producer admits,he was forced to sing akpako music due to frustration...
On his success story

My brother if I tell you say I know how, na lie I dey lie (laughs). I have been studying the industry and I have learnt to give the people what they want. I started with Rhythm and Blues and went to shoot my video in South Africa. The buzz I got from the song was not satisfactory, so I became frustrated and maybe that frustration led me to do the street music I’m doing now- the Apako song.
On most Nigerian Song having lewd lyrics

You see, today’s music is evil. We call it commercial music. This is the music that brings the millions. People are still doing good music here but there is no buzz. It is the commercial music which some people term ‘bad’ music that is getting us the millions. It is all about the business of music and the glam that accompanies it. I said before that I was doing good music before, but the buzz was not there. So, I researched what the need is and experimented with songs like Make I Nack You Apako and others. It is not easy doing music; recording a song is a piece of creativity and you just do it from your heart and await the feedback from listeners.

Travel / Nigerian Man Banned From Work In The UK After Visiting Nigeria by Opeedo(m): 2:47pm On Nov 05, 2014

Sam Ogunnoiki, who works as a security guard at Stout Security Ltd headquartered in Cornwall, UK, has been told not to go to work over fears he may have Ebola after visiting Nigeria.

The 46 year old British citizen, faces a three-week quarantine from his employers who told him that he needs to get the all-clear from a British doctor before he can go back to work. Below is the letter (in full) his direct boss sent to him
"I have spoken to you and expressed my very deep concerns about your trip to Nigeria. Several members of staff have now voiced their concerns about the possibility of your carrying the Ebola virus back with you and have made it very clear that they are extremely reluctant to work with you on your return." Continue...
One member of staff has even written a clear and concise letter stating the concerns of your work colleagues. In this case I have to support their concerns especially as I have already voiced them personally to you. In order to allay any fears that you are a carrier for this deadly virus I feel I cannot allow you to return to work until you have been back in the United Kingdom for three weeks, which is the incubation period. I must also request that you visit your doctor on your return and get a clean bill of health before you can start work with us. I am very sorry about this Sam but everyone works in close proximity together and I have to put the concerns of the majority first.’
Sam, who said he's on a zero-hours contract now worries about not being paid. He said:
‘Nigeria does not have Ebola but he said I have to be cleared. There is this stigma surrounding me now – it’s just ignorance and a nightmare because I cannot work. I’m a British citizen. There is no justification for this at all.’
The boss who sent the letter, Mr Mannell, later defended his position saying:
