Sports / Re: Nigeria's Four Relay Teams Qualify For 2024 Olympics (Video) by opes: 2:24pm On May 08
DrTee1:

Thanks for this update. However, that shouldn't have been a problem if we were serious as an Athletics Federation. We knew of this event at least two years ago. I can bet that it may not be the same quartet that ran in all the qualification races that would ultimately represent Nigeria at the Olympics.

Each relay team at the Olympics has six members to run through the heats to the final in sets of 4 per race. Nigeria should be able to raise 8 female quarter millers (400 M runners) at any time, even if it is to give the needed high-level international exposure to the less ranked or amateur athletes. We should have had a female 4X400M team in Bahamas. The injury and visa excuse is, at best, an excuse.

Kind regards.

The 4 x 400 women will still be in Paris. The slot for olympic in the relay category is 16, only 14 qualified in Bahamas, the remaining two slots will be taken by teams who couldnt seal their qualification in Bahamas and will be considered based on SEASON BEST (SB) Currently, Nigeria 4 x 400 women has the best SB of 3:27:29 recorded in Accra during the all African games.

Nigeria's 4X400m women nko?
If they participated and didn't qualify, then the truth changes from what was presented here to ", Four out of Nigeria's FIVE Relay teams qualify for Olympics".
We must not mispresent fact.
The article suggests that Nigeria has only four replay teams in athletics, which isn't true. We have at least five.

4 X 100 male and female
4 X 400 male and female.
Then the mixed relays of male and female teams running together.

4 X 400 women didnt participate due to visa and injury challenges

So half the u-17 boys failed the mri test and Nigeria have only until Monday to submit final squad list. This one is setting up a coach to fail.

FROM FACEBOOK

"The team is intact...

The news that first team members of Golden Eaglets failed MRI test is not correct. The team is intact.

Abuja football fans that have been watching the training sessions of the team and their friendly games can attest to this.

Please if you live in Abuja, feel free to come and watch the Eaglets train at the FIFA Goal Project, Abuja stadium. You can find out.

The MRI test conducted by the NFF found few players on grade 5 and these players are out.

Grades 1 - 5 are pass grades, but the policy of NFF is that players on grade 5 will not be taken to the competition venue because they may fall into grade 6 when CAF conduct their own MRI test, due to the fact that the borderline between grade 5 and 6 is very little.

In order to avoid that risk, the NFF insists that only players from grade 1 - 4 will represent Nigeria at the International tournament.

Please, feel free to VERIFY.

The team played another friendly game today and defeated Turbo touch academy 2-0.

The 30 -man list will be made known before the team leaves Nigeria next week.

I believe if Amuneke is giving the U17 job again, He will bring the cup.

Some people are crazy

Comparing a world cup winner
(if you like call it U17) to an NPFL winner (which we know it was actually a super 6 winner not NPFL)

Do you know how many years it took Brazil to win the U17 world cup?

What was the coaching experience or qualification of 31 years old Fanny Amun when he won it in 1993? Late Yemi Tella was an instructor at NIS when he guided the team to lift the trophy in 2007. Amuneke won it, good but he was the fifth Nigerian coach to win the cup.

I just feel it is unprofessional and insulting to make people waste their time applying for the job, while sticking with the person on the job. I hope it never repeats itself.

I agree with you. GFA did the same. After receiving over 600 applications, they still went for Addo who didnt apply for the job because he didnt meet the 15 years working experience required. But for NFF, they really wanted foreign coach, they just dont have the money.

Goal conversion 22% No that's very poor I must say. Meaning he throws away78% of his chances?

Goals per 90, min per goal is still the second best. His shot accuracy also impressive.. He is facing Okoye Maduka next..

Even when it comes to local coach
I will pick Manu Garba to coach the super eagles over Amunike

He successfully managed under 17 and under 20 and even an NPFL side

The other one had a failed career in Zambian and Egyptian league and ordunder 20

We are not telling ourselves truth in this country

The under 20 job too I don't know how Ladan Bosso merit that job

He is never my choice, his record as a coach is very poor, but am a big fan of Super Eagles, so i pray He succeed.

Bunch of average coaches. Their mates are chairing FAs and regional football body here they're are recycling themselves with super eagles job.
None of them dare contest for NFF president

I am sick and tired of them. Give one of them the job now and watch the others beef
That 94 set walahi has outlived their useless

Funny enough majority of them didnt have even 50 caps with the team. Super eagles is for us all. I wish the new coach best of luck.

But Amuneke coached at senior level, even two teams in npfl. Why the results aint coming like the Alonso and Giardiola?

Valid point sir but another major achievement is qualifying Tanzania for the ANC after almost FOUR decades and since 2019 and Amunike's sack haven't qualified again. However he failed in club soccer as a manager.

Tanzania was at the last AFCON. A coach qualified them for the tournament as well, infact, the only match they lost was against Morocco. They played draw with Zambia and Congo

The simple reason I am clamoring for Amunike is he is the best when it comes to delivering the possessive offensive philosophy. He understands the modern game and trained fully in it. If we had someone like Addo as a Nigerian I will call for him but we don't. Addo is also sound in the modern game. Has a lot to do with Pep Guardiola's influence on German football.

It will be hard for us to pull a foreign coach well versed in the modern game, that is why the clamor for Amunike.

It is not just about CV but delivering the philosophy.

Yes, Addo is good. Dortmund even demanded 5M dollars release clause, not sure if GFA paid the amount anyway

Ideas he's not been able to scale at the senior level? Don't act like he's not got other jobs after his u17 triumph. Judge him by that. How did he fare in his subsequent jobs?

I am not against Amuneke and at some point was very pro giving him the job. But we shouldn't shift change the goalpost because of him. By your metric Manu Garba also deserves the job since he won the u17 world cup and had a good system there too.

I asked this question on another thread from those pushing for Amunike. If He is a foreign coach with his CV and record, would they clamour for him to be employed as super eagles coach.? Our indegenous coaches need to be active. Otto Addo was part of the coaching crew at Dortmund, an ex Ghana international, now Ghana Coach.

They were offering Peseiro $80k. They can still get a decent one lesser. Chris hughton was even earning $50k when he was black stars coach
