Deferring it (in your opinion) means that he is delaying the elevation of those chiefs below him on the roster of senior chiefs to higher positions. He can't reject it by tradition and his position as Ekaarun Balogun can only go to someone else if he dies suddenly.

I see that majority of commentators up here didn't understand how Chieftaincy runs in Oyo. Sen. Sarafadeen has due for promotion to be moved or put on the crown. Even If the state gov. denied him people will still saying it's politics.

Then, honestly can he will primary with the present APC excos that are for Adelabu? Adelabu has outsmarted all of them including Sen. Teslim.

But laslas, Seyi loni Oyo State. Any candidate he pick from Ibadan, will definitely win...

To make it clear what I said, no local law or custom can stop one from being a governor in any Nigerian state unless it is recognised by the constitution.

So again, Oyo state or any state in the country cannot introduce any law or custom that would stop any individual in Nigeria from becoming a governor in their state, no matter how good or well intentioned that law is.

Let me give you a scenario, imagine if in the Southwest we made laws that says any governor of any Southwest state must speak Yoruba, or in the core North they insisted any governor of their states must be muslim or in the SE &SS they insisted any governor must be a Christian.... in short this would have happened already if those states had the ability, but no state in the federation is allowed to unilaterally overule constitutional requirement or legislate for any office directly recognised and created by the federal constitution.

Also, once again, to make it clear, their is no office in the constitution recognised as "governor of Oyo state", you are a "governor of a state in Nigeria" which the federal constitution already prescribes how you can become one.

This issue is dead on arrival and means nothing. Worse comes to worse once the man wins primary or whatever, he resigns as a chief and face his election. When he becomes governor again, he changes the law to suite himself as long as it is not against the constitution of the federal republic.

It is a well intentioned law, but it cannot stand or hold back anyone who is serious about becoming a governor.

If Sharafadeen Alli truly wants to be governor in 2027, he should approach a Federal High Court to obtain a perpetual injunction to defer the chieftaincy title for now, because it’s not done in good faith and if not delayed, it would affect his traditional hierarchical seniority.
Trying to combine both will likely cost him both.

The Oyo State Government has fixed April 3rd for the coronation of the Senator representing Oyo South senatorial district, Sarafadeen Alli as a crown wearing high chief.

This move, OYOINSIGHT.COM, understands is part of the intrigues for the 2027 gubernatorial elections in the state.

According to the Ibadan chieftaincy law, crown wearing chiefs in the Olubadan-in-council are not allowed to openly participate in partisan politics. This indicates that Ali’s promotion will halt his bid to run for the 2027 gubernatorial seat in the state.

The statement fixing the conferment of the new chiefs, signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, read in part: “I have the directive to refer to Your Majesty’s correspondence ref. no L/ADV/Co/1242/843 dated 23rd March, 2026 in respect of the above and to inform Your Majesty that while making arrangement for the compilation of the High Chiefs and Baales who are due for beaded crown wearing in Ibadanland as requested, it is traditionally necessary and very essential at this point in time that the newly elevated Chiefs in Olubadan-in-Council i.e
