10 THINGS RWANDA VICTORY DID TO EAGLES
1.It lowered the prestige, and honour of the team and the respect other African teams (countries) have for Super Eagles particularly the individual players that will be projected for Africa Player of The Year award after Ademola Lookman's crowning.
2.It made Super Eagles look very ordinary, common and cheap and even has given other opponents confidence when coming to play Super Eagles.
3.It has clearly informed stakeholders that they should expect more home defeats moving forward.
4.It has exposed the lapses or shortcomings of some players held in high esteem.
5.It has instructed the technical crew to look inwards and consider NPFL Players in the building exercise of Super Eagles. No national team excels with 100% reliance on foreign based players.
6.It has warned the Austin Eguavoen led technical crew not to assume, feel or think that it has arrived or that it already has a team for AFCON or World Cup if they eventually qualify for the later.
7.It has shown that the technical crew needs to weed the team of unserious players irrespective of who their godfathers are or the club they play for.
8.It has proven that Super Eagles are a mixture of 70% average players and 30% super stars.
9.It has revealed that the team needs glory hungrier and thirstier players who will be motivated by donning the national colours and not players who have been in the team for years and are less motivated. Players who will stroll into the team and pick shirts.
10.It called for a Code of Conduct for the team given that the players are serious in away fixtures but handle home games with kids gloves.

EXPERT TAKE ON OSIMHEN TO MAN U
Tor-Kristian Karlsen assesses how Victor Osimhen might fit at Man United in place of Joshua Zirkzee.
As one of the most coveted strikers in world football, Osimhen's loan to Turkish side Galatasaray this summer may have seemed puzzling, but his spat with parent club Napoli has hardly affected him. He has adapted quickly to partnering Mauro Icardi (who has now been ruled out for the season through injury) in a "double No. 9" formation and has scored nine goals in 10 games so far, looking motivated, sharp, and in optimal physical condition.
Despite dropping down a level, it's clear that Osimhen belongs in one of Europe top leagues. Upon joining Napoli from Lille in 2020, the Nigeria international had a rough first touch and uncoordinated movement patterns that sometimes left him disconnected from his teammates. But he has continuously refined his game and now looks like a complete striker who would thrive under new boss Ruben Amorim.
His ability to latch on to passes played in behind (or at the side of) defenders, exceptional pace, and penetrative runs behind opposing defenders make him almost unplayable in transitional play, or when he has space to exploit. Yet his piercing runs into the box, ability to pounce on the ball ahead of his markers, and superb finishing skills are also impactful in a crowded penalty area.
With Zirkzee struggling to adapt to the Premier League at Man United, a swap deal with Napoli appears an alluring proposition. The Netherlands international's link-up play and neat ball control in the final third has already proven effective in Serie A for his former club Bologna, so Napoli could benefit there, while Osimhen's athleticism, hyper-intense movement and high-volume finishing appear tailormade for a big Premier League side struggling to get enough goals from their No. 9.

COOL10:
😄 Lol, bro you've come again. I remember asking you a question the last time we had a similar conversation and you ran away. Anyway, that's aside. Let's talk about your points.
You're blaming Eguavoen's disgraceful loss to a team ranked 126th in the FIFA Rankings on the fact that he used his second eleven for the match.
Now let's look at the so called second eleven:
Iheanacho: Multiple years of English Premier League experience. Multiple AFCON experience. World Cup experience.
Moses Simon: Multiple years of French Ligue 1 experience. Multiple AFCON experience.
Maduka Okoye: One of the best goalkeepers in the Serie A right now. AFCON experience.
Osayi Bright: AFCON experience
Bruno Onyemaechi: AFCON experience
Alhassan Yusuf: AFCON experience
Victor Boniface: One of the best strikers in the German Bundesliga right now.
Troost Ekong: Highly experienced player. 2023 AFCON MVP.
The only players there with little to no AFCON experience are Osho, Dele, Onyedika and Boniface.
Most of the players you claim are second eleven already have a lot of experience playing football on the African scene, especially at the highest level( The AFCON), yet according to you they're not good enough to beat a Rwandan team currently ranked 126th in the world abi? A Rwandan team filled with players who are BENCHWARMERS at their clubs( according to the Rwandan Coach). Shame suppose dey catch una for the kind things una dey talk.
You like talking about the number of years Rohr spent as our coach(it's 5, not 6), yet you want us to ignore the fact that Eguavoen has been in charge of the Super Eagles on four different occasions. He's been our coach 4 times yet you're telling me that he couldn't beat a team of BENCHWARMERS because he used his second eleven (that's filled with players who have AFCON experience and are doing great things in their clubs)? Haba Mana!!! 🙄🤦🏾♂️ Iheanacho only went to AFCON twice, 2021and 2023. The later, he was mostly on the bench.. Rohr was bold to drop him in 2019 |

EEGA: Nawaa ooo on top a dead rubber game.
For crying out loud,he qualified us for the AFCON with 2 games yet to be played. So, our last two games of the qualifiers was inconsequential as we've already secured qualification for the Biannual show-piece. If he had used fringe players or home based lads, it is understandable but losing to Rwanda with our top Euro based professional is unacceptable sir. Apart from Benin, which team did we win convincingly? |

Daninya33: If Boniface must play, then he should not play as a number 9 but as 9 and a half (SS). Tolu of Genk and Elijah of Luton has what it takes to play as a traditional number 9. I don't know why AE is yet to extend an invitation to Chuba Akpom of Ajax. Akpom is technically gifted to interpret the SS role perfectly.
Let me say it without mincing words, Boniface ain't going to excel in the SE. Anyone who knows the history of Nigerian football has seen exceptional players paint Europe with goals only to see them falter in the green white green. African football doesn't suit Boniface.
Watching Agali and Kanu pair so well amazes me. Two tall and slow players but both complemented each other. As it stands,It is only Osimhen we have as a 9. We have seen that the likes of Taiwo,Umar,Dessers,Boniface won't cut it for the SE. As a coach, I would have also tried the likes of Akpom,Isaac Success and Josh Maja in the SS role.
In midfield, Iwobi is the only creative hub we have. Bashiru ain't the man. Our midfield is blessed with destroyers/water carriers. Chrisantus Uche of Getafe would not solve our midfield woes. Victor Eletu of AC Milan is a top prospect,I just hope he develops quickly. Ndidi,Onyeka,Onyedika,Uche,Akinsanmiro, Alhassan are all same type of players with a little distinction. I hate to say it,but Nwakali will bring something different to SE midfield. We need to go back to a diamond midfield like when we had Oliseh,Okocha and Adepoju doing their job in the midfield.3 different players playing 3 distinct roles effectively or just of recent in 2013,we had Mba ,Obi and Onazi in midfield. It's high time we drop three between Onyeka,Ndidi,Yusuf and Onyedika. I suggest we play Iwobi on the wings because that's where he can really thrive. There is a dearth of a creative midfielder for the SE maybe Eze and Olise would have been an icing on the cake if they were playing for the SE.
we need to revert back to a 3 man defence. I would love to see the return of Leon Balogun. He is a reliable war horse. Osayi was caught off guard severally thereby making Ekong drift to cover his lapses. Can't wait to have Zaidu Sanusi back. Sanusi is defensively disciplined. A back 3 of Ekong ,Balogun/Ajayi and Bassey is sufficient as we prepare for the WCQ in March.
Going forward we need to deploy a 3-4-3 in our WCQ campaign.
The NFF must quickly appoint a coach for the SE. A coach who is ready to take risks and deploy players who suit his philosophy.
Gabriel Osho will come good for the SE.
So many things to say, let me drop my pen 🖊️ here. Ekong, Ajayi and Omeruo are our CB and they are over 30yrs. We should bring 35 years old Balogun again? |

PDPGuy: Remember, if CAS overturns CAF’s verdict on the botched Libya v Nigeria match, then we would have to get at least a draw vs Libya in the potentially rescheduled game… We are on 11pts. 9 goals scored and 3 conceded. If CAS should order for replay, we will be on 8 points with 6 goals scored and 3 conceded. Benin is on 8 points with 7 goals scored and 7 conceded. Even if we eventually loss to Libya by 2 nill, we are still topping the group with 8 points and +1 goal difference. |

Eguaveon just ruined his chance and chances of local coaches. No team play, only individual brilliance of Chuckwueze got us the goal. Boniface is not just it, Ekong exposed, he needs Bassey to cover for him, Okoye could not take the chance, Onyeka playing like farmer..for me, I miss Zaidu Thank you Libya for the Greek gift, we may not have defeated them at home.. |

BankyGee: If them give any country apart from Angola that Team of the Year award, na cheating. I said it two days ago that Ghana won't beat them when someone here asked. They are by far the best "team" in Africa at the moment, for a team ranked 82nd in the world and out of the top 10 in Africa, they are the African team with the most wins in 2024, and have only lost twice. 1–0 to both Morocco and Nigeria.
By the time the new rankings drop, Ghana would find themselves at 77th or 78th while Angola will go up to 76th or 77th.
That their coach na idan abeg. Respect! I don't think they have the talents again, they hardly qualify for youth tournaments, even the female teams ain't qualifying for AWFCON again. GFA still better than NFF in recruiting quality coaches; Claude Le Roy/ Herve Renard, Avram Grant, Chris Hughton. Addo, a local coach is well motivated and earning in dollars. I can say the problem is not coaching, but lack of talents.. The last group game will be very interesting; Ghana vs Niger Sudan vs Angola Niger will play for a win against Ghana and pray Angola should defeat Sudan.. I watched Angola yesterday, the team is fantastic. |

Make dem go comot am now 😂 what's the aim of a striker in a match? I wonder oo. Ronaldo had a total of 11 goals against Luxembourg, same as Messi 11 goals against Bolivia. It is football, that he scored 7 against minnow shouldn't discredit the effort.. |

wayodude: I watched the entire 90 mins of this game and that easily qualifies for a top 2 worst Super Eagles performance in living memory. Please don't let the fact it ended in a draw deceive you. Benin really were the better side and should have won convincingly. It was so glaringly obvious who the better managed team was.
Who to blame?
Eguavoen has had several auditions and has serially proven not to be cut out for it at this level. Iwobi and Ndidi in a 2 man midfield? Starting with 3 centre backs but with no idea how to progress the ball through the lines? Not a single attempt at creating overloads on the Beninoise full backs, they did that to ours several times? Really really poor.
Iheanacho is finished at the top level. After he inevitably gets offloaded by Sevilla he will disappear into the ether. I don't see how he gets interest from a top flight team in any big league.
Bassey cannot be a guaranteed starter. He's all brawn no brains, very aggressive but no real physical qualities to talk about, not fast can jump ...simply not good enough to be starting every game. He's still young so might improve with time.
Iwobi also cannot be a guaranteed starter. We've seen his performance ceiling, it isn't very high and he hardly ever brings it to the party anyway.
Gabriel Osho was very very poor. I think it was a good idea to see him in this sort of game and the nerves of making his debut might have got to him. Maybe he gets one more chance. We need to try out a few more players here so his invitation was welcome.
Osimhen needs 5/6 clear cut chances to convert 1. His finishing for club and country are not worth the hype he gets. The best part of his game is his hard work, physicality and athleticism but against strong, athletic African strikers they don't leave him with any change. Remove the 7 goals he scored against Sao Tome and penalties against the likes of Sierra Leone and you'll see where his real stats should be. We still need him for his hard work but we need to remeasure our expectations. His goal today was his first for Nigeria since the AFCON opener against Equatorial Guinea in January.
Tired of writing....
NB: I missed the goal he scored Vs Benin in Uyo but still my point stands. His goal return rate is not good enough. Then we should also remove Yekini penalty goals and all the goals he scored against minnows and see what remains of his 37 goals. |

Amedino99: I guess the players that pulled out will be feeling foolish if Ghana later qualify against all odds . Their position in the team will definitely shake. Sudan didn't try at all. The match against Niger was played at Togo, neutral venue which was an opportunity for them and they lost heavily. Next match is against Angola at their adopted home, Libya, which they may not even get the needed point to qualify. They need to pray for Angola to at least play draw with Ghana tomorrow. Even with that, Niger still a threat.. |

Man United told to sign Osimhen
Loui Saha suggested that United should look towards signing Osimhen instead of Viktor Gyokeres, he added: "If you look at the stats, Man Utd should go after Victor Osimhen over Viktor Gyokeres, it’s as simple as that. He’s been scoring goals for four years at Napoli and has done exactly the same since joining Galatasaray, scoring goals for fun. He is a huge character and has the confidence to be a success everywhere he goes. I think there is a bit more of a guarantee behind him given the amount of time he has been successful. He is a big game player and he loves the game, he doesn’t care how his goals go in, he just wants to score and that’s what he does. He is very focused and he reminds me of Erling Haaland in that sense. I think he could be what Man Utd need."
