PoliticsNOA Warns Against Hoarding, Scarcity Of Staple Foods During Ramadan, Lent by Orabi(op): 8:20am On Feb 20
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has issued a strong advisory to traders and market operators across the country against the hoarding and artificial inflation of prices of essential food items during the holy month of Ramadan and lent.

In a statement issued by the Agency’s Director of Communication and Media, Bala Musa, Mallam Issa-Onilu expressed concern over reports that some marketers are deliberately withholding staple commodities commonly consumed during fasting periods, thereby creating artificial scarcity and driving up prices to the detriment of ordinary Nigerians.

According to the Director General, such practices are not only economically disruptive but morally indefensible, particularly during a sacred season that emphasises compassion, sacrifice, generosity, and social responsibility.

“This is a period that calls for reflection, charity, and empathy for the less privileged. It is deeply troubling that some individuals would exploit this spiritual moment for excessive profit-making at the expense of vulnerable citizens,” the DG stated.

He noted that the deliberate hoarding of food items undermines national efforts at economic stability, fuels inflation, and places avoidable hardship on families already navigating challenging economic realities.

The DG of NOA reiterated that responsible market conduct is a patriotic duty and a moral obligation. He emphasised that fairness, transparency, and moderation in pricing are aligned with both national values and religious teachings.

The Director General further urged trade associations, market unions, and commodity groups to exercise internal regulatory discipline by discouraging exploitative behaviour among their members. He called for collaboration with relevant regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with ethical market standards.

Mallam Issa-Onilu reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to sustained sensitisation campaigns across all states and local government areas, promoting value reorientation, economic responsibility, and national cohesion.

He appealed to marketers to see Ramadan and Lent as opportunities to demonstrate integrity and social conscience rather than a window for opportunistic gain.

The National Orientation Agency will continue to monitor developments and engage stakeholders to safeguard the welfare of citizens and uphold the values that strengthen our national fabric.
PoliticsLPCF Alleges Political Persecution In El-rufai’s Arrest, Demands Release by Orabi(op): 5:59pm On Feb 17
The Labour Party Candidates Forum (LPCF), on Tuesday, declared solidarity with former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, describing his arrest as politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices in Nigeria.

The LPCF urged Nigerians not to interpret the matter along ethnic or religious lines, insisting that it should instead be seen as an attempt to intimidate opposition voices in the country.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Barrister Okeme Adejoh, and Secretary, Comrade Eze Oko Splendour, the forum accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using state institutions to intimidate critics of the administration.

He added: “Labour Party Candidates Forum (LPCF) stands in solidarity with Mallam El-Rufia in this moment of oppression and persecution by the ruling party APC. This body views the arrest as politically motivated just to silence the voice of opposition in this country.

“This is not the way to go in a democratic system. People must be allowed to criticize the policies and programmes of this administration without any iota of fear of being arrested, intimidated or incarcerated.

“There are so many people in APC who have committed worse crimes than what Mallam El-Rufia is being accused of yet they are walking freely in this country. For instance the case of Yahaya Bello and Ifeanyi Okowa are good examples. This goes a long way to justify the saying that "If you join APC your sins will be forgiven or forgotten". This is very sad.”

The forum further alleged selective justice, claiming that some members of the APC accused of more serious offences have not faced similar treatment.

“This Mallam El-Rufia's matter should not be viewed as North and South issues or a religious case. We in opposition view it as an attempt to intimidate opposition voices in our dear country Nigeria. Opposition is not a crime in a democratic dispensation rather it is the beauty of democracy.

“We hereby demand for his unconditional release from EFCC or DSS. This is not the way to sustain our nascent democracy rather it will pave the way for autocracy, dictatorship, tyranny etc. Opposition members must be allowed to breathe in this country. Enough is Enough,” they added.
PoliticsFace Your Charges, Don’t Distract Nigerians — Democracy Watch Initiative To El-r by Orabi(op): 5:35pm On Feb 17
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), on Tuesday, urged former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to stop what it described as diversionary tactics and face ongoing investigations by anti-graft and security agencies.

DWI expressed concern over El-Rufai’s admission that he breached the communication lines of the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), describing the action as a violation of established national security protocols.

In a statement by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji Bamidele, the group said El-Rufai is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) over serious allegations.

Bamidele said: “As he faces serious investigations by multiple anti-graft and security agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), El-Rufai’s attempts to divert attention from these grave allegations are not only disingenuous but also pose a significant threat to our national security.

“El-Rufai has openly admitted to breaching the communication lines of the National Security Adviser (NSA), a move that raises serious concerns about his respect for established protocols and the sanctity of our national security apparatus.

“His actions cannot be dismissed as mere political maneuvering; they represent a blatant disregard for the laws and principles that govern our nation. The Democracy Watch Initiative views this breach as a critical threat to our collective safety and a violation of the trust placed in our leaders.”

He recalled that in a recent statement, El-Rufai attempted to justify his actions by claiming that he sought clarification from the NSA regarding reports of the importation of thallium sulphate, a highly toxic substance. While we acknowledge the importance of transparency and accountability, his approach raises more questions than it answers.

He added, “Instead of addressing the serious allegations against him, El-Rufai has chosen to deflect responsibility and create a narrative that seeks to paint him as a concerned citizen rather than a man under investigation. This tactic is not only misleading but also undermines the gravity of the situation.

“The Democracy Watch Initiative firmly believes that no individual is above the law, regardless of their political stature or past positions of power. El-Rufai must face the full wrath of the law to ensure that justice is served and that national safety is prioritized.

“The rule of law is the bedrock of our democracy, and it is imperative that all citizens, especially those in positions of authority, are held accountable for their actions.”

The organisation called on relevant authorities to expedite investigations and ensure due process without interference, stressing that the rule of law remains the foundation of democracy.

“The integrity of our institutions must be upheld, and any attempts to manipulate public perception or evade accountability must be met with unwavering resistance. As a nation, we cannot afford to allow diversionary tactics to cloud our judgment or distract us from the pressing issues at hand.

“The safety and security of our citizens depend on our ability to confront challenges head-on, without succumbing to the distractions of political gamesmanship. The Democracy Watch Initiative urges all citizens to remain vigilant and engaged in the democratic process, advocating for transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.

“We reiterate our call for justice in this matter. The actions of Nasir El-Rufai must be scrutinized, and he must answer for the implications of his decisions. Only through a commitment to accountability can we ensure a safer and more democratic Nigeria for all.”
PoliticsKaduna Group Faults El-rufai Over Corruption Allegations, Clears NSA by Orabi(op): 8:03am On Feb 15
Kaduna Group Faults El-Rufai Over Corruption Allegations, Clears NSA

Kaduna Voices United, a coalition of concerned citizens and civil society organisations, has criticised former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of attempting to evade accountability over alleged corruption during his tenure.

The coalition said such actions undermine the seriousness of the allegations and reflect what it described as a broader culture of impunity in the political system.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Yariok Makama Goje, and Secretary, Sunusi Tanimu, the group alleged that rather than directly addressing the corruption allegations, El-Rufai has sought to deflect attention by shifting blame to the National Security Adviser (NSA).

He said: “El-Rufai's administration was characterized by a blatant disregard for due process and the fundamental rights of the citizens of Kaduna State. He wielded power with an iron fist, seizing and demolishing properties without fair compensation, sacking workers indiscriminately, and instilling fear among the populace.

“These actions were not merely administrative decisions; they were manifestations of a regime that operated outside the bounds of legality and ethical governance. It is disheartening to witness a former leader who, during his time in office, exhibited such shamelessness and irresponsibility, now attempting to evade the consequences of his actions.

“In his recent statements, El-Rufai has attempted to paint himself as a victim of a political conspiracy, claiming that the Department of State Services (DSS) sought to detain him without proper procedure.

“While we acknowledge the importance of due process, it is crucial to remember that accountability is a two-way street. If El-Rufai wishes to challenge the actions of security agencies, he must first address the allegations of corruption that hang over his head like a dark cloud. The citizens of Kaduna deserve transparency and justice, not a diversionary spectacle.”

The group further expressed concern over recent political alignments, including comments by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in defence of El-Rufai, particularly regarding an alleged airport incident.

The coalition said public officials must consistently uphold accountability and the rule of law, warning against what it described as selective appeals to due process.

The coalition added, “Atiku’s recent defense of El-Rufai’s conduct at the airport, where he condemned the alleged attempt to embarrass the former governor, raises serious questions about his commitment to accountability and the rule of law.

“It is shameful for any leader to stand by a figure who has demonstrated such a blatant disregard for the welfare of the people. El-Rufai’s rhetoric about tyranny and undemocratic practices, while he himself has perpetuated an environment of fear and oppression, is nothing short of hypocrisy.

“These actions exemplify a troubling double standard; while El-Rufai exercised authority with apparent disregard for legal protocols and individual rights, he now seeks refuge in the very legal frameworks he previously undermined when confronted with allegations of financial impropriety.

“This inconsistency not only undermines public trust in governance but also highlights a broader issue regarding accountability among those in power. The expectation that leaders adhere to the principles of justice and fairness is foundational to a democratic society, and El-Rufai's selective invocation of the rule of law serves as a stark reminder of the need for consistent ethical standards in leadership.

“The citizens of Kaduna are entitled to a government that respects their rights and upholds the rule of law, not one that seeks to silence dissent and evade scrutiny.
As Kaduna Voices United, we call upon the relevant authorities to initiate a thorough investigation into the allegations of corruption against El-Rufai.

“It is imperative that all public officials, regardless of their status or past positions, are held accountable for their actions. The culture of impunity must end, and those who have abused their power must face the consequences of their actions.”

The group also urged Kaduna residents to remain engaged in the democratic process and continue to demand accountability and good governance. Adding that, “It is our collective responsibility to demand transparency, accountability, and good governance from our leaders.

“The fight against corruption is not just the responsibility of the government; it is a societal endeavor that requires the active participation of every citizen. We reiterate our condemnation of Nasir El-Rufai’s attempts to evade accountability and shift blame. We stand firm in our belief that the truth must prevail and that justice must be served.

“The people of Kaduna deserve better than the legacy of impunity left by El-Rufai, and we will continue to advocate for a government that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens above all else.”
PoliticsNYF Demands Probe, Arrest Of El-rufai Over Alleged NSA Phone Hack by Orabi(op): 7:27am On Feb 15
NYF Demands Probe, Arrest Of El-Rufai Over Alleged NSA Phone Hack

The Coalition of Northern Nigeria Youth Groups, under the aegis of the Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), has called on the Federal Government to investigate and arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged comments concerning a breach of the National Security Adviser’s communication line.

The group expressed concern over what it described as an alarming admission by El-Rufai that he was privy to information obtained from a hacked phone belonging to the National Security Adviser (NSA).

In a statement issued by its Chairman, Sama Musa, stressed that the matter goes beyond politics and touches on the integrity of Nigeria’s intelligence architecture.

According to the NYF, such claims raise serious national security concerns.

Musa said: “By claiming that an individual hacked the NSA’s phone and relayed the contents of private discussions to him, El-Rufai has confessed to being a direct beneficiary and potentially a coordinator of a sophisticated cyber-espionage operation.

“This is not merely a political dispute; it is a grave issue of national security. If the communication of the nation’s top security coordinator can be compromised and the intercepted data shared with unauthorized individuals, the entire intelligence infrastructure of Nigeria is at risk.”

The NYF demanded that security agencies thoroughly investigate the allegation, identify any collaborators or technical accomplices involved, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law, including provisions of the Cybercrimes Act.

The group further urged the Federal Government to treat the issue as a serious breach of national security and to act swiftly to safeguard the country’s institutions.

He added, “The NYF asserts that this crime was not committed in isolation. We demand that: Nasir El-Rufai be held accountable for his involvement in and knowledge of this breach. All collaborators and technical accomplices who facilitated the hacking of the NSA’s phone be identified and arrested immediately.

“The Federal Government treats this as a heinous crime against the state, as receiving and utilizing hacked intelligence is a direct violation of the Cybercrimes Act and national safety protocols.

“Furthermore, we must address El-Rufai’s history of resisting lawful authority and his tendency to politicize matters of national safety. His past defiance against law enforcement suggests a belief that he is above the law.

“By allowing him to remain free after such a blatant admission of cyber intrusion, the government risks sending a message of impunity to those who would seek to destabilize our democracy.

“The integrity of our national security institutions is the only thing standing between order and chaos. We cannot allow individuals to compromise these institutions for personal or political gain.”

The NYF reiterated its call for prompt action by relevant authorities to protect the nation’s democratic and security institutions.
PoliticsADC Disowns Alleged Membership Drive, Warns Atiku Over Zoning Comments by Orabi(op): 7:00pm On Feb 12
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has disowned a purported membership drive allegedly initiated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other coalition members.

The party urged its members to remain vigilant and report any unauthorized membership registration or related activities to the appropriate authorities.

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, the ADC described the development as an unauthorized attempt to undermine its legitimate leadership.

He declared that any membership cards or affiliations issued through such process are null and void.

Okechukwu said: “The party wishes to state unequivocally that any membership cards or affiliations issued by these individuals are null, void, and of no effect.

“The ADC views the actions of these coalition members as a blatant attempt to usurp the party from its legitimate leadership, and their desperation is palpable.

“The party alerts its members and the general public to beware of these individuals, who are attempting to hijack the party in broad daylight.

“The ADC condemns these actions in the strongest terms and advises all concerned parties to disregard any membership cards or affiliations purportedly issued by these individuals, who are deemed to be engaging in unauthorized and illegitimate activities.

“Members are urged to remain vigilant and report any such attempts to the relevant authorities. The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to serve notice to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that his attempts to unilaterally determine the party’s stance on zoning the presidency are unacceptable.”

The ADC stressed that decisions regarding internal matters, including zoning arrangements, would be determined strictly by its constitution and through its established democratic processes.

He said: “The party emphasizes that the ADC is an independent entity, not a personal fiefdom where individual interests supersede the collective will of its members.

“As such, decisions regarding the party’s internal affairs, including the zoning of the presidency, will be made by the party’s legitimate leadership and membership, without external influence or dictate.

“The party will not entertain any attempts to impose external agendas or dictate the course of its internal processes. The ADC’s leadership will continue to act in the best interests of the party and its members, in accordance with its constitution and democratic principles.”
PoliticsOPA Defends National Security Adviser Ribadu, Condemns El-rufai’s Allegations by Orabi(op): 6:09pm On Feb 12
The Odua People’s Assembly (OPA), has criticised former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over what it described as unsubstantiated allegations against the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

The group recalled that El-Rufai, during a recent interview with DCL Hausa, reportedly claimed that Ribadu “just picks his phone and calls any security outfit to arrest anybody without any form of investigation.”

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Richard Olatunji Kayode, the OPA described the remarks as reckless and misleading, stressing that the NSA does not possess the constitutional authority to unilaterally order arrests or interfere in judicial processes.

Kayode said: “El-Rufai is known for his history of fabricating narratives that serve his personal and political agendas. His track record as a pathological liar is well-documented, and he has shown a remarkable willingness to distort the truth without any regard for the consequences.

“It is disheartening to witness a former governor stoop to such levels of deceit, particularly when the stakes are as high as national security and the integrity of our judicial system.

“The role of the NSA, as outlined in the Constitution, is to advise the President on matters of national security and ensure the effective coordination of security agencies. It is essential to clarify that the NSA does not have the authority to unilaterally order arrests or interfere in judicial matters.

“El-Rufai's assertions that Ribadu directs the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest individuals or influence judicial decisions regarding bail are not only unfounded but also dangerously misleading.”

The group warned that allegations made without proof could erode public confidence in security institutions and weaken trust in the rule of law.

He added, “We must emphasize that the integrity of our security institutions and the rule of law are paramount to the stability of our nation. Allegations of this nature, especially when made without a shred of evidence, undermine public confidence in these institutions and threaten the very fabric of our democracy.

“It is incumbent upon El-Rufai to act with responsibility and integrity, particularly when discussing matters that impact the lives and liberties of our citizens.

“Moreover, El-Rufai's claim that "nobody is as wicked as Nuhu Ribadu in Tinubu’s administration" is a personal affront that serves no purpose other than to sow discord and division among the ranks of our leadership.

“Such incendiary language is unbecoming of a former governor and does a disservice to the collective efforts of those working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our nation.

“The Odua People's Assembly stands firmly in support of Nuhu Ribadu and his commitment to upholding the rule of law and the principles of justice. We call on all Nigerians to reject the divisive rhetoric propagated by individuals like Nasir El-Rufai, who prioritize personal vendettas over the collective good.”

The group called on public figures to exercise restraint in their public comments and urged Nigerians to critically assess political statements, particularly those touching on national security and judicial independence.
PoliticsDWI Slams El-rufai Over Allegations Against National Security Adviser Ribadu by Orabi(op): 5:33pm On Feb 12
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), has condemned what it described as “reckless and unfounded” allegations made by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, against the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

El-Rufai, in a statement during a chat with DCL Hausa, reportedly accused Ribadu of ordering arrests without proper investigation and interfering in judicial processes.

But in a statement issued Thursday by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji O. Bamidele, the DWI dismissed the claims as baseless and harmful to national security institutions.

The group said El-Rufai’s allegation that the NSA “picks up his phone and calls any security outfit to arrest anybody without investigation” was not supported by evidence and capable of eroding public confidence in security agencies.

Bamidele said: “The Democracy Watch Initiative categorically rejects El-Rufai’s claims that Nuhu Ribadu interferes in judicial matters or influences bail decisions. These statements are harmful, reckless, and malicious, designed to tarnish the reputation of a dedicated public servant who has devoted his career to the security and safety of our nation.

“Such unfounded allegations not only jeopardize the morale of our security forces but also threaten the delicate fabric of our democracy.

“We are particularly alarmed by El-Rufai’s assertion that “nobody is as wicked as Nuhu Ribadu in Tinubu’s administration.” This kind of rhetoric is not only annoying but also dangerous, as it seeks to undermine the legitimacy of our institutions and the individuals who serve within them.

“The Democracy Watch Initiative warns El-Rufai that his rascality, characterized by unscrupulous and mischievous public conduct, will not go unchecked. We will hold him accountable for his words and actions, which serve only to sow confusion and division among the populace.

“As citizens of a democratic society, we must remain vigilant against the spread of misinformation and the reckless behavior of political actors such as El-Rufai who prioritize personal vendettas over the collective good.”

He called on El-Rufai to retract the allegations and engage in issue-based dialogue that strengthens, rather than weakens, democratic institutions.

He added, “It is imperative that he acts with the decorum and seriousness that his positions demand, rather than resorting to baseless accusations that only serve to undermine public trust.

“The Democracy Watch Initiative calls upon all Nigerians to reject the culture of political rascality and to demand accountability from our leaders.

“We must work together to foster a political environment that values truth, integrity, and the rule of law. Let us not allow the reckless conduct of individuals like Nasir El-Rufai to distract us from the pressing issues that face our nation.”
Politics2027: CNG Warns Against Moves To Undermine Electronic Transmission Of Results by Orabi(op): 8:32pm On Feb 07
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has issued a strong warning against any attempt to weaken the electronic transmission of election results ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The coalition argued that electronic transmission directly addresses this weakness by ensuring that results transmitted from polling units cannot be tampered with by politicians, compromised officials, or other vested interests.

In a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group expressed deep concern over what it described as growing efforts by some political actors to dilute or frustrate the full implementation of electronic result transmission.

According to CNG, Nigeria’s electoral challenges over the years have largely stemmed from manipulation at the collation stage, where results are allegedly altered and the will of voters subverted.

He said: “We state clearly, unequivocally, and without diplomatic caution: electronic transmission of results is not optional, not experimental, and not negotiable it is the lifeblood of credible elections and the last line of defence between democracy and organized electoral robbery.

“Nigeria has suffered far too long under a culture of electoral manipulation that has denied citizens their sovereign right to freely choose their leaders. For decades, the weakest point of our elections has not been voting, but collation where figures mysteriously change, mandates disappear, and the will of the people is replaced with the will of political cartels.

“It is precisely this criminal space that electronic transmission seeks to eliminate. Electronic transmission guarantees that once results leave the polling unit, they cannot be altered by desperate politicians, compromised officials, or shadowy interests operating in the darkness of manual collation centres.

“It protects the integrity of the ballot, preserves public trust, and strengthens national stability. Any resistance to this reform can only be interpreted as resistance to transparency itself.

“We therefore view with deep concern the recent comments, signals, and legislative manoeuvres associated with the Senate President and certain elements within the National Assembly that appear designed to dilute or frustrate the full implementation of electronic result transmission.

“Such actions are not merely disappointing, they are dangerous, regressive, and profoundly anti-democratic. At a time when democracies across the world are deploying technology to enhance accountability, it is shameful that some of Nigeria’s highest office holders are contemplating a return to analogue manipulation.”

He warned that repeated disputed elections could deepen public distrust, fuel post-election violence, and trigger legitimacy crises.

The coalition called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain firm in deploying full electronic transmission of results without dilution, while urging the National Assembly to desist from any legislative actions capable of weakening transparency in the electoral process.

He added, “Those who oppose e-transmission do so because the old fraudulent system favours them. They fear a system where votes truly count. They fear a system they cannot manipulate. They fear the people’s verdict.

“The Senate President and his colleagues must remember that they occupy their offices by the mandate of the people, not by entitlement. The National Assembly is not a sanctuary for political self-preservation; it is a constitutional institution meant to deepen democracy and protect the sanctity of the vote.

“History will not be kind to any leader who conspires, directly or indirectly, to weaken electoral transparency. Nigeria cannot afford another cycle of disputed elections, post-election violence, judicial battles, and legitimacy crises. We cannot continue to gamble with the stability of our nation simply because a few political elites are uncomfortable with accountability.

“Credible elections are not just about politics, they are about national security, economic stability, investor confidence, and social cohesion. When citizens lose faith in the ballot, they begin to lose faith in the nation itself. And when faith collapses, unrest follows. Electronic transmission is therefore not merely a technical reform; it is a safeguard for peace and national unity.”

He appealed to civil society organisations, youth groups, and the media to intensify advocacy and vigilance, and urged Nigerians across all regions and political affiliations to hold their elected representatives accountable.

CNG vowed to resist any attempt to reverse electoral reforms, insisting that anything short of credible, transparent, and technology-driven elections would be unacceptable to Nigerians.

“We must speak with one voice: our votes must count, and they must be protected by technology. Democracy cannot survive on trust alone; it must be backed by verifiable systems. Nigeria belongs to the people not to political godfathers, not to incumbents, and not to backroom conspirators.

“As we approach 2027, let this message resonate clearly in every constituency and every polling unit: we will resist any attempt to drag this country backward.

“We will not allow anyone to steal the future of our children through electoral manipulation. And we will mobilize democratically to defend every single vote cast by Nigerians. The time for electoral darkness has passed. The era of transparency must prevail. Anything less than credible, transparent, technology-driven elections in 2027 is unacceptable to the Nigerian people,” he said.
PoliticsGMI Hails Tinubu’s Diplomatic Gains, Urges Final Push Against Banditry by Orabi(op): 11:47am On Feb 07
The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a remarkable diplomatic turnaround that has restored Nigeria’s dignity and standing on the global stage, particularly in its relations with the United States.

The group said that within just three months, President Tinubu’s administration has repositioned Nigeria from a country once portrayed as diplomatically isolated to a respected and high-priority partner of the United States.

In a statement by its National Coordinator, Samaila Musa, the GMI described the development as “strategic leadership at its best,” noting that recent engagements between Nigeria and the United States underscore the effectiveness of the President’s foreign policy approach.

“What we have seen since November 2025 is a masterclass in strategic leadership. From the high-level visits involving NSA Nuhu Ribadu and the US Congress in December, to the joint counter-terrorism operations pact, this administration has shown it doesn't just talk, it acts.

“The fact that President Trump yesterday described our First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as a “Very Respected Person,” and expressed he was ‘honoured’ to have her at the Washington Breakfast, proves the coast is now clear for a historic White House visit.

“The Final Push Against Insecurity
While celebrating these diplomatic wins, the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative acknowledges the complex security reality at home. Despite the successes of the "Renewed Hope" agenda, bandits and terrorists are currently attempting to regroup and launch fresh waves of violence against our communities.

“We believe the end of banditry in Nigeria is finally within sight. But we must not take our foot off the gas. Even as these criminals try to reorganize, we are calling on the Federal Government to double its efforts.”

The GMI reaffirmed its support for President Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies, pledging to remain vigilant at the grassroots level.

He added, “We urge the President to deepen this newfound collaboration with the United States and other international allies. We must leverage every bit of intelligence, technology, and military support from these partnerships until every single bandit and terrorist is totally wiped out from Nigerian soil.

“The GMI stands firmly behind the President and the security agencies, remains vigilant at the grassroots level, and calls on all Nigerians to remain patriotic as we move toward a safer, more prosperous nation.”
PoliticsCoalition Of Northern Groups Condemns Deadly Attacks In Kwara, Katsina by Orabi(op): 9:29am On Feb 06
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attacks carried out between 3 and 4 February 2026 in Woro and Nuku communities of Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The Coalition also condemned another grave attack in Katsina State, where over 20 people were killed by suspected bandits in Doma community, Tafoki Ward of Faskari Local Government Area.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the CNG said credible reports from local authorities and community sources indicate that scores of residents were killed in the Kwara attacks, with casualty figures running into over 100, while many others sustained serious injuries.

According to the statement, homes, shops and farmlands were destroyed during the attacks, forcing survivors, mostly women, children and the elderly, to flee their communities in fear for their lives.

Charanchi said: “The attackers reportedly stormed the community in a coordinated assault, unleashing violence on residents, destroying homes, and forcing survivors to flee, once again exposing the persistent vulnerability of rural communities to armed criminal groups.

“The Coalition extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those brutally murdered in this senseless attack. We also express our heartfelt sympathy to the injured and to all residents who have been displaced and traumatised by this act of terror.

“The pain, grief and insecurity inflicted on these communities are unacceptable and must not be normalised. The people and communities, like all Nigerians, have the fundamental right to live in safety and dignity.

“The scale and brutality of this attack highlight the growing threat of terrorism and banditry spreading, and expose the dangerous gaps in the country’s security architecture, particularly in rural and border communities.”

The CNG calls on the Federal Government to ensure speedy widespread recruitment and training of the Forest Guards to complement security forces across the frontline areas.

The Coalition finally called on Nigerians to remain united, resilient and peaceful in the face of provocation, while urging leaders at all levels to rise to the gravity of the moment.

He stressed that the protection of citizens remains the primary responsibility of the government.

Charanchi said: “We welcome the approach as we believe those guards that would be drawn from the communities would be instrumental in combating terrorists and bandits in every nooks and crannies of our communities.

“While the Coalition acknowledges the sacrifices and efforts of security personnel on the front lines, the persistence of such deadly attacks shows that current responses remain inadequate.

“There is an urgent need for a more decisive, intelligence-driven and people-centred security strategy that prioritises the protection of lives over reactive damage control.

“The CNG therefore renews its call on the Federal Government and the Kwara State Government to take immediate and concrete steps to secure vulnerable communities, strengthen intelligence gathering, improve early warning systems, and ensure visible security presence in high-risk areas.”

He urge the authorities to provide timely relief, medical care and other support for victims and displaced families, while ensuring that those responsible for this atrocity are swiftly identified and brought to justice.

“Beyond immediate security measures, this tragedy underscores the need to confront the deeper drivers of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, social exclusion and governance failures that allow violent groups to thrive,“ the added.
PoliticsKPRA Slams Senator Hanga Over Alleged Political Flip-flop, Corruption Claims by Orabi(op): 6:53pm On Jan 29
The Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA), has condemned what it described as the inconsistent and flip-flopping stance of Senator Rufai Hanga over the reported defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group recalled that the senator had previously criticised the Kwankwasiyya movement led by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing it as a “cult group,” but later praised its influence while attacking Governor Yusuf.

In a statement issued by its Coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, accusing the senator of lacking consistency, integrity and accountability in his recent public comments.

KPRA said Senator Hanga’s remarks on Governor Yusuf and the Kwankwasiyya political movement reflected what it termed an attempt to rewrite political history for personal gain.

According to the alliance, such contradictory positions raised serious concerns about the senator’s credibility and political integrity, warning that erratic leadership undermined public trust and confused constituents.

The group also drew attention to corruption allegations involving the senator’s family, referencing a petition submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) by Isa Ado Maidoya, a former Chief of Staff and Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Hanga.

He said: “Senator Hanga’s recent remarks about Governor Yusuf and the Kwankwasiyya movement paint a picture of a politician who seeks to rewrite history for personal gain. Just months ago, in a widely circulated video, Senator Hanga scorned the Kwankwasiyya movement led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, labeling it a "cult group," only to later praise its significance while simultaneously attacking Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“This commentary raises serious questions about his integrity and the authenticity of his political stance. When a leader behaves in such an erratic manner, it not only confuses the constituents but erodes public trust in the political system entirely.

“The KPRA views such actions as a betrayal to the citizens of Kano, who deserve consistent leadership that upholds the principles of transparency and accountability.

“Integrity is a foundational tenet of effective governance. Politicians are entrusted with the sacred duty of representing the interests of their constituents. When representatives like Senator Hanga make contradictory statements and flip-flop on essential issues, they undermine the democratic principles they claim to uphold.

“Citizens of Kano need to ask: How can we trust Senator Hanga when he cannot seem to adhere to a consistent position? This uncertainty creates a volatile political climate that can lead to disillusionment among the electorate.

“Moreover, with issues like corruption, accusations of misappropriation, and ethical dilemmas looming large, it is imperative for Senator Hanga to reevaluate his approach to governance.

KPRA stated that the petition accused the senator’s son, Muhammad Samir Hanga, of allegedly diverting and misappropriating a federal government project valued at over N250 million.

The alliance said the allegations, though yet to be determined by authorities, further underscored the need for the senator to address questions surrounding personal and public accountability.

He added, “Senator Hanga has previously criticized the Kwankwasiyya movement, attributing its strength to merely a cult-like following and attempting to diminish its political legitimacy. However, in light of Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC, Hanga's narrative has inexplicably shifted.

“This behavior not only reflects a lack of principled stands but also exemplifies opportunism at its finest. In stark contrast, Hanga now praises the very entity Kwankwasiyya he once disparaged.

“This dual nature not only casts a shadow on his credibility but also confuses the narrative of political loyalties for the average voter. Such behavior raises eyebrows about his true motivations in the political sphere, are they aligned with advancing society, or rather self-serving?”

The alliance urged Senator Hanga to take responsibility for his past statements, maintain principled political positions and address the allegations involving his family openly and transparently.

KPRA also called on Kano residents to remain vigilant and actively engage their representatives, demanding accountability and ethical conduct in public office.

“It is essential to point out that the allegations against Muhammad Samir Hanga are not mere bureaucratic oversights; they represent a serious deviation from ethical norms expected in leadership positions.

“The diversion of public projects can have detrimental effects on community development, impeding progress in areas that are desperately in need of attention. All stakeholders must ensure that these claims are thoroughly investigated so that accountability becomes a norm rather than an exception.

“Political flip-flopping is detrimental to effective governance and public trust. It can foster a lack of loyalty and opposition within political parties. Senator Hanga’s recent behavior serves as a cautionary tale for what can happen when politicians prioritize self-interest over their constituents' needs.

“The unpredictability of Hanga's statements and actions could lead to broader instability within his party and among the political class. If leaders cannot maintain a consistent message, it becomes near impossible for the electorate to feel secure in their votes or trust the future of the political system in Kano,“ he said.

The Kano People's Rights Alliance calls for a return to principled and ethical political discourse in Kano State. Our leaders must rise above petty squabbles and personal ambitions to serve the interests of the people effectively.
Politics2027: North Will Back Tinubu For Second Term — Northern Youth Frontiers by Orabi(op): 1:04pm On Jan 28
The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), has declared that Northern Nigeria will overwhelmingly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

It also cites his reforms, commitment to national unity, and adherence to Nigeria’s power rotation principle.

In a statement issued on behalf of the group, the Chairman of NYF, Sama Musa, said the North remains resolute in its support for President Tinubu, describing his administration as pivotal to stability, inclusiveness, and progressive governance since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

Musa noted that Nigeria’s zoning and rotation arrangement has played a critical role in promoting equity, representation, and harmony among the country’s diverse regions, adding that President Tinubu’s leadership reflects the spirit and intent of that system.

He said: “Since the inception of our democratic journey in 1999, Nigeria has witnessed a significant evolution in its political landscape. The rotation system, a framework designed to promote inclusivity and representation among the diverse ethnic and regional groups, has emerged as a cornerstone of our democratic process.

“This system has not only provided a platform for equitable power distribution but has also served as a bulwark against potential discord and division among the various segments of our society.

“President Tinubu's tenure has exemplified the essence of this rotation system, reinforcing the belief that leadership should resonate with the aspirations and needs of all Nigerians, particularly those in the North. His administration has initiated a plethora of reforms aimed at addressing the socio-economic challenges that have long plagued our region.

“From infrastructural development to educational advancement and security enhancements, President Tinubu's policies have laid a solid foundation for sustainable growth and progress.

“As we look toward the future, it is crucial to ensure continuity in these laudable reforms. The progress made thus far must not only be preserved but also expanded upon. Re-electing President Tinubu for a second term will guarantee that the momentum of his transformative agenda continues unabated.

“His vision for a prosperous Nigeria, characterized by economic resilience and social cohesion, aligns seamlessly with the aspirations of the Northern Nigerian populace. Moreover, the re-election of President Tinubu is paramount for the preservation of national unity. In a nation as diverse as Nigeria, it is essential to cultivate a sense of belonging among all citizens.

“The President's commitment to fostering dialogue, promoting inclusivity, and bridging divides has been instrumental in nurturing a collective national identity. His leadership has demonstrated that unity is not merely a lofty ideal but a tangible reality that can be achieved through concerted efforts and shared vision.

“The Northern Youth Frontiers recognizes that the challenges facing our nation are multifaceted and require a leader who possesses the acumen, experience, and dedication to navigate them effectively. President Tinubu's track record speaks volumes; his ability to engage with various stakeholders, his pragmatic approach to governance, and his unwavering resolve to uplift the lives of ordinary Nigerians make him the ideal candidate to lead our nation into the future.

“One of the most significant recent developments is the decamping of Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, from the New Nigeria) People's Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This shift is a critical indicator of the North's potential voting patterns in the upcoming 2027 presidential elections. The move confirms that the North will overwhelmingly support Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The NYF called on Northern youths and stakeholders to mobilize at the grassroots level in support of Tinubu’s re-election, urging active participation through community engagements, town hall meetings, and political advocacy.

He added, “We call upon all citizens of Northern Nigeria to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as we embark on this journey toward the 2027 elections. Let us embrace the spirit of unity, cooperation, and collective responsibility as we advocate for the re-election of a leader who has consistently prioritized the welfare of the Nigerian people.

“As we mobilize our grassroots networks, we encourage engagement at all levels – from community meetings to town halls, from social media campaigns to traditional outreach. It is our collective duty to ensure that every voice is heard and every vote counts.

“Together, we can demonstrate that the Northern region is not only a vital part of Nigeria's political space but also a beacon of hope for a united and prosperous future.”

Reaffirming the group’s position, Musa said supporting Tinubu’s second-term bid goes beyond partisan politics, describing it as an endorsement of continuity, unity, and democratic values, adding that, “By voting for continuity, we are not merely endorsing a candidate; we are championing a vision for a Nigeria that thrives on unity, progress, and democratic values. Let us stand together, as one North, in our commitment to a brighter tomorrow.”
PoliticsADC NWC, Bot Warn Coalition Members Against Constitution Alteration by Orabi(op): 5:10pm On Jan 27
The National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed concern over alleged attempts by some coalition members to alter the party’s constitution ahead of formally joining the party.

The party warned that such actions are unacceptable and capable of causing confusion and disaffection among members.

This was contained in a joint communiqué signed by the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Rufus Akanmi, at the end of a joint session of the NWC and BoT, cited Article 8 of the ADC constitution, which clearly outlines the process for joining the party.

Akanmi expressed appreciation to party members and stakeholders for their understanding and continued support during the period.

He said: “The National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BOT) of the party noted with concern attempts by certain coalition members to alter the party's constitution prior to joining. The party views such actions as unacceptable and warns against any efforts that may cause confusion or disaffection among members.

“The NWC and BOT cites Article 8 of its constitution, which outlines the process for joining the party, requiring membership “applications to be processed through the Ward Executive where the applicant resides, with endorsement from the Ward Chairman”.

“Attempts to undermine this process contravene Article 8 (1&2)of the party’s constitution. We also reference Article 9 (4)to coalition members, which stipulates that “to be eligible for national or zonal office, a member must have been a member for at least two years and be up-to-date with membership dues.”

“We interprets the establishment of a constitutional review committee by the coalition members as an attempt to hijacked the party and warns against such actions.”

The party leadership advised individuals interested in contesting the 2027 general elections on the ADC platform to liaise with the legitimate party leadership in their respective wards, local governments, and states.

He urges aspirants to disregard any transition committees established by coalition members or illegitimate leaders and to seek guidance from the existing party structures at various levels.

Akanmi added that, “In a related development, the NWC and BoT announced the postponement of the party’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses. According to the communiqué, the decision was taken due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the party’s control.

“The party apologized for any inconvenience the postponement may cause and assured members and stakeholders that new dates would be announced in due course through official ADC channels.”
PoliticsKPRA Slams Kwankwaso Over ‘traitor’ Comment On Gov Yusuf, Calls For Responsible by Orabi(op): 12:57pm On Jan 25
The Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA), has condemned recent remarks credited to former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The group described Kwankwaso’s portrayal of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as a “traitor” as an unfounded allegation, warning that such comments undermine democratic values and raise concerns about the former governor’s commitment to the collective interest of the people of Kano State.

In a statement issued on Saturday, KPRA Coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, described the comments as misleading, inflammatory, and harmful to the political climate of Kano State.

KPRA called on Kwankwaso and other political actors to engage in constructive dialogue, present policy alternatives transparently, and avoid what it termed “insult-laden rhetoric.”

He said: “Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso's portrait of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as a traitor is an unfounded allegation that raises serious questions about Kwankwaso's commitment to serving in the best interests of the people of Kano.

“It is necessary to highlight that Governor Yusuf was elected by the general populace through a democratic process and represents the voice and will of the people of Kano State. Such a statement from a figure like Kwankwaso not only undermines the democratic process but also sows seeds of discord within the community.

“Kwankwaso's assertions are steeped in personal attacks that detract from the pressing issues facing our state. The politics of personal animosity do not serve the interests of our citizens, who expect their leaders to focus on governance, development, and the betterment of society.

“Instead of throwing around terms like "traitor," Kwankwaso should be urged to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at addressing the real challenges confronting the people of Kano, such as poverty, youth unemployment, and access to education.

“In tandem with his derogatory remarks about Governor Yusuf, Kwankwaso's suggestion to designate January 23rd as "International Naivety Day" is equally baffling.”

KPRA argued that while satire has a place in politics, framing such an idea in the context of local governance trivialises serious governance issues and risks deepening political divisions rather than fostering unity.

The group urged Kwankwaso and other political leaders to embrace constructive dialogue, present policy alternatives transparently, and refrain from what it termed “insult-laden rhetoric.”

He added, “Kwankwaso's premise appears to be rooted in personal grievance rather than genuine concern for the populace's welfare. Rather than uniting our people, a so-called "International Naivety Day" could exacerbate divisions and foster contempt between different political factions, undermining unity and cooperation essential for effective governance.

“In a time when the community needs solidarity, creating symbols that insult and ridicule contributes nothing to the peace and development of our state. Political engagement should center around issues that touch the lives of people.

“The KPRA encourages alternative approaches from former leaders, including Kwankwaso, advocating that they put forth policies, programs, and reforms that will bring lasting improvements to public welfare and not engage in personal attacks.

“We, the Kano People's Rights Alliance, would like to reiterate our call for a more responsible approach to political discourse in Kano State. The people of Kano deserve leaders who reflect integrity, respect, and a commitment to their welfare. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s recent comments regarding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf exemplify the need for a reconsideration of how we engage in political discussions.”

The alliance also criticised Kwankwaso’s proposal to mark January 23 as “International Naivety Day,” describing it as derogatory and dismissive of the dignity of political office and the people of Kano State.

The alliance urged political actors to focus on actionable policies capable of uplifting communities and improving the quality of life of Kano residents, stressing that unity and cooperation remain essential for the state’s peace and development.
PoliticsKPRA Backs Gov Yusuf’s Resignation From NNPP by Orabi(op): 7:12pm On Jan 23
The Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA), has thrown its weight behind the resignation of Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), describing the decision as courageous and people-centred.

The group acknowledged that while Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to the NNPP for the platform it provided him since 2022, the party’s prolonged internal conflicts have significantly hampered its effectiveness and cohesion.

In a statement issued on Saturday, KPRA Coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, said the governor’s decision to quit the NNPP, effective January 25, 2026, was taken in the overall interest of Kano residents, amid what he described as deepening internal crises within the party.

It would be recalled that Governor Yusuf had formally announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Chairman of Diso-Chiranchi Ward, citing persistent leadership disputes and unresolved legal battles that have continued to destabilise the NNPP.

He said: “The Governor has expressed his gratitude to the party for the opportunities it provided him since 2022, acknowledging the support and goodwill of its leadership and members throughout his political journey.

“However, it is imperative to recognize that the persistent internal disputes and legal challenges facing the NNPP have hindered its ability to serve the public effectively.

“In his resignation letter, Governor Yusuf articulated the challenges that have plagued the party, highlighting the detrimental impact of ongoing leadership disagreements and unresolved legal matters.

“These internal conflicts have not only weakened the party’s structure but have also fostered disenfranchisement among its members, leading to an environment of division and uncertainty. The Governor's insight into these issues reflects a deep understanding of the political landscape and a genuine concern for the stability and progress of Kano State.

“The KPRA acknowledges the gravity of the situation within the NNPP and supports the Governor’s assertion that the internal crises have created irreconcilable divisions that threaten the party's future. As the Governor stated, his decision to resign was made after careful reflection and is rooted in the best interests of the people of Kano State.

“It is a decision taken not out of bitterness, but from a place of good faith, with a steadfast commitment to fostering peace and unity within the state.”

The group further highlighted the political significance of the development, pointing out that 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and 44 local government chairmen have also resigned from the NNPP in solidarity with the governor.

According to KPRA, the mass exit reflects a shared resolve to prioritise public service and effective governance over party allegiance in the face of internal party turmoil.

The alliance called on political stakeholders in Kano State to engage in constructive dialogue and focus on resolving issues that hinder good governance, rather than deepening partisan divisions.

He added, “In light of these developments, the KPRA calls upon all stakeholders within the political landscape of Kano State to reflect on the implications of these internal crises and to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at resolving the underlying issues.

“It is essential that the focus remains on the needs and aspirations of the people, rather than on partisan conflicts that serve only to undermine the collective progress of the state. We commend Governor Yusuf for his visionary leadership and his unwavering commitment to the development of Kano State.

“His achievements in infrastructure, urban renewal, health, education, and economic empowerment are testaments to his dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens.

“The KPRA stands ready to support the Governor in his future endeavors, as he seeks to navigate this new chapter in his political journey. As we move forward, it is crucial for all political actors to prioritize unity and collaboration in the quest for sustainable development and social cohesion in Kano State.”

The group reaffirmed its readiness to support the governor in his future political journey and urged political actors to embrace unity and collaboration in pursuit of sustainable development and social cohesion in the state.

KPRA expressing solidarity with Governor Yusuf, describing his resignation as a necessary step toward building a more responsive and people-oriented political environment in Kano State.
PoliticsNEF Slams FG Over Lagos Gold Refinery Plan, Cites Economic Dispossession by Orabi(op): 3:41pm On Jan 22
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has warned Northern political leaders and elites against remaining silent over the Federal Government’s decision to site Nigeria’s national gold refinery in Lagos State, describing the move as a deliberate act of economic dispossession and a deepening of structural inequality.

In a strongly worded message addressed to Northern elites, political leaders and stakeholders, the Forum said the location of the refinery outside the country’s major gold-producing regions in Northern Nigeria was neither an oversight nor a policy error, but a decision with far-reaching economic and security implications.

Signed by its spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, NEF accused the Federal Government of stripping value addition from Northern communities while concentrating industrial benefits in Lagos and its environs.

According to the Forum, the decision perpetuates an extractive economic model in which raw materials are sourced from the North while processing, branding, financing and industrial infrastructure are located elsewhere.

NEF said Section 14(3), which enshrines the federal character principle, was designed to prevent the concentration of national advantages in ways that marginalise any region, while Section 16 mandates the state to manage the economy on the basis of social justice and equality of opportunity.

Jiddere said: “The decision to locate Nigeria’s gold refinery in Lagos while gold is mined from Northern soil is not a policy error. It is not an oversight. It is a deliberate act of economic dispossession. It strips value addition from Northern communities, exports opportunity to the already privileged center, and condemns the source regions to poverty, unemployment, and perpetual insecurity.

“To again remove the locus of value addition from these communities is to perpetuate an extractive model reminiscent of colonial economics where raw materials are sourced from the periphery and wealth is accumulated at the center. This is not development. It is internal colonialism.

“This injustice is systemic, not accidental.
For decades, Northern Nigeria has been reduced to a triple extraction zone:
the supplier of raw minerals, the supplier of agricultural produce, and the supplier of cheap labour, while processing, branding, financing, and industrial infrastructure are consistently sited elsewhere.

“Northern farmers produce the bulk of the nation’s food, yet agro-processing plants, commodity exchanges, logistics hubs, and export value chains are concentrated outside the region. Grains, livestock, tomatoes, cotton, hides and skins leave the North in raw form, only to return as finished goods priced beyond the reach of the very communities that produced them. This is not inefficiency; it is designed under development.

“Every refinery sited away from the resource zone deepens youth despair.
Every agro-processing plant denied to the North accelerates rural collapse.
Every lost industrial anchor strengthens the conditions that breed banditry, kidnapping, and mass poverty.

“These outcomes are not mysterious. They are predictable consequences of structural exclusion. What makes this moment unforgivable is not only federal insensitivity but elite cowardice.

“Where are the Northern governors who invoke unity while accepting economic strangulation? Where are the senators, ministers, party chieftains, and traditional power brokers who enjoy proximity to power but cannot defend the economic dignity of their people?

“If Northern elites cannot speak when their region is systematically excluded from mineral and agricultural value chains, history will record that today’s leadership traded regional dignity for access to political favour and power.

“No rhetoric about national cohesion can survive sustained economic humiliation. The North is not asking for favour.
It is demanding constitutional fairness.

“If derivation justifies benefits for oil-producing regions, it must apply to gold and solid minerals. If federal character restrains political appointments, it must restrain economic concentration, industrial siting, and agro-industrial monopolisation. Anything else is hypocrisy masquerading as policy.”

The Forum also criticised what it described as the silence of Northern governors, lawmakers, ministers and traditional leaders, warning that history would judge leaders who fail to defend the economic dignity of their region.

In a separate open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council, the Forum grounded its objections in constitutional provisions, citing Sections 14(3), 16(1)(b) and 162(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The Forum further argued that the derivation principle recognises the right of resource-bearing areas to benefit meaningfully from resources extracted from their land, stressing that derivation should not be reduced to fiscal allocations alone.

The Forum warned that the persistent concentration of strategic economic assets in Lagos has fuelled spatial inequality, weakened trust in the federal system and heightened perceptions of economic marginalisation in the North.

He added, “While derivation has often been framed in fiscal terms, its underlying philosophy is unmistakable: resource origin must matter in the distribution of economic benefits. To deny gold-producing regions the industrial and developmental benefits of refining is to hollow out the derivation principle and reduce it to a token accounting exercise.

“International best practice in extractive economies is unequivocal. In jurisdictions such as Australia, Canada, South Africa, Ghana, and Chile, primary processing and refining facilities are deliberately located proximate to mining sites.

“This approach minimises logistical inefficiencies, strengthens regulatory oversight, curbs smuggling, integrates artisanal miners into formal value chains, and most importantly anchors regional industrialisation. Nigeria’s decision to refine gold far from its source is therefore not merely unconventional; it is economically regressive.

“To again remove the locus of value addition from these communities is to perpetuate an extractive model reminiscent of colonial economics, where raw materials are sourced from the periphery and wealth is accumulated at the center. Such a model is incompatible with modern federalism, incompatible with constitutional equity, and incompatible with Nigeria’s stated development objectives.

“Northern Nigeria, particularly states such as Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna, Katsina, and adjoining areas has absorbed the environmental degradation, social dislocation, insecurity, and criminal networks associated with unregulated mining.

“Yet, when the moment arises to locate refining infrastructure that would create skilled employment, stimulate technology transfer, and catalyse industrial clusters, the region is once again bypassed. This is not an abstract policy choice; it is a lived injustice.”

The forum described the decision as inconsistent with the long-standing policy of siting oil refineries close to crude-producing regions and called for a decentralised, resource-proximate refining framework.

NEF demanded that at least one primary gold refinery be located within Northern Nigeria’s gold-producing corridor, with Lagos, if necessary, restricted to trading, certification or export functions.

The forum urge the Federal Government to act not out of concession, but out of constitutional duty, economic reason, and commitment to national cohesion.
PoliticsNorthern Youths Frontiers Hails FG Over Resolution Of 17-year ASUU Crisis by Orabi(op): 4:39pm On Jan 21
The Northern Youths Frontiers (NYF) has commended the Federal Government for the successful resolution of the long-standing dispute with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), describing it as a major breakthrough for Nigeria’s education sector.

The group said the resolution followed the recent signing of a historic agreement aimed at restoring stability, improving staff welfare, and revitalising public universities across the country after 17 years of intermittent crises.

In a statement, by the North West Zonal Coordinator of NYF, Saminu Tukur, NYF described the agreement, set to take effect from January 1, 2026,vas a milestone in Nigeria’s educational development and a clear demonstration of the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to national progress.

The prolonged ASUU dispute, characterised by recurrent strikes, poor funding, and unresolved welfare concerns, had severely disrupted academic calendars and denied millions of students uninterrupted access to quality higher education.

According to the NYF, the agreement’s salary and welfare packages show a great boost for academic staff morale through a 40% salary increase, new allowances for teaching and supervision, and improved maternity and paternity leave.

NYF also commended the fixed retirement age of 70 and full pension benefits for professors and described them as critical steps toward restoring dignity in the teaching profession.

NYF further praised the government’s commitment to institutional development through the ₦30 billion Stabilisation Fund and the planned National Research Council.

The group also welcomed proposed legal reforms to strengthen university autonomy and reduce bureaucratic interference, and described the agreement a long-overdue reset for Nigeria’s public
universities.

The Frontiers commends the leadership and political will demonstrated in achieving this breakthrough. The organization views this as a critical turning point for Nigeria’s educational sector and urges the full implementation of the agreement across all public universities.

NYF believes this development will not only stem the tide of brain drain but will also help restore confidence in Nigeria’s public tertiary institutions.

The group calls on all relevant stakeholders, including state governments, university managements, and civil society actors, to support the enforcement and monitoring of this agreement to ensure it delivers the intended outcomes.

According to NYF, the resolution of the long-standing ASUU dispute represents “a bold and strategic step toward rebuilding Nigeria’s education system and securing the future of its youth.”

The group reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the interests of young Nigerians and supporting initiatives that promote educational excellence, sustainable development, and national unity.
PoliticsNOA DG Condemns Fuel Scooping, Urges National Assembly To Criminalise Practice by Orabi(op): 7:38pm On Jan 19
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has condemned in the strongest possible terms the dangerous, irresponsible, and condemnable act of scooping fuel from a fallen tanker, as witnessed today, Monday, 20th of January at the Liverpool Bridge, Apapa area of Lagos State.

According to the DG, this practice is completely unacceptable in a modern society and poses an extreme and avoidable threat to human life, public safety, and national infrastructure.

The risks involved are not limited to those directly engaged in the act; the collateral danger to motorists, nearby communities, emergency responders, and critical assets is enormous and far outweighs any perceived or imagined benefit.

Issa-Onilu noted that the National Orientation Agency has, over the years, consistently deployed nationwide sensitisation and public enlightenment campaigns to conscientise Nigerians on the dangers inherent in fuel scooping and similar high-risk behaviours. Regrettably, despite sustained advocacy, repeated warnings, and value-reorientation efforts, some individuals have remained adamant and have continued to engage in this undesirable and life-threatening conduct.

The Director General stated unequivocally that this behaviour cannot be justified under any circumstances. “This is not poverty. Poverty does not take away the sense in people’s heads, nor does it eliminate judgement or the instinct for self-preservation. What we are witnessing is a conscious, reckless, and criminal disregard for human life and public safety,” he said.

He recalled that Nigeria has, in the past, recorded several tragic incidents across different parts of the country where fuel tanker accidents led to explosions and infernos after people attempted to scoop fuel, resulting in the loss of hundreds of lives. These recurring tragedies, he stressed, are painful reminders that this menace is recurrent, preventable, and must no longer be tolerated.

In view of the grave danger posed by this practice, the Director General called on the National Assembly to urgently initiate and enact comprehensive legislation that will expressly criminalise the act of fuel scooping from fallen tankers and prescribe firm, clear, and deterrent penalties for perpetrators.

According to him, sustained public enlightenment must now be complemented by strong legal and enforcement frameworks to decisively end this deadly behaviour.

Issa-Onilu, in a statement issued by Bala Musa, Director of Communication and Media, emphasised that the trend must not be allowed to continue, urging Nigerians to collectively reject actions that repeatedly result in mass casualties, national trauma, and avoidable loss of lives.

He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to intensifying its value-reorientation and safety advocacy across the country, adding that, “Human life is sacred and priceless. No situation, no (excuse, and no momentary gain should justify conduct that places lives in imminent danger.”
PoliticsStop False Allegations Against Kano Governor, KPRA Warns Kwankwaso by Orabi(op): 7:31pm On Jan 15
The Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA), has cautioned former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, to desist from what it described as false and inflammatory allegations against the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

KPRA said it was compelled to respond to recent statements attributed to Senator Kwankwaso on his verified social media platforms, in which he alleged that the Kano State Government was coercing state officials and elected local government chairmen to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued by its Coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, the group described the allegations as unfounded, misleading and capable of inciting unrest in the state.

Tofa said: “Senator Kwankwaso’s allegations are particularly troubling given the current political climate in Kano State. By suggesting that the state government is engaging in such coercive tactics, he is not only undermining the integrity of our democratic processes but also inciting unrest among his supporters.

“It is deeply concerning that a leader of his stature would resort to such inflammatory rhetoric, which has the potential to exacerbate tensions in a region already marked by political volatility. By fanning the flames of discontent,

“Senator Kwankwaso is not merely expressing a political grievance; he is, in fact, stocking the embers of violence that could lead to chaos in our beloved state.
It is disheartening to witness a former governor of Kano State employ such tactics, which are unbecoming of a leader who should be championing peace, unity, and the rule of law.

“The Kano People's Rights Alliance believes that the political arena should be a space for constructive dialogue and healthy competition, rather than a battleground for accusations and threats.”

He said it was disheartening that a former leader who should promote peace, unity and respect for the rule of law would engage in what it termed confrontational and divisive politics.

According to KPRA, the political space should be reserved for constructive engagement and healthy competition, rather than accusations capable of threatening public order.

Tofa added, “We call upon Senator Kwankwaso to reflect on the implications of his words and to engage in a manner that promotes understanding rather than division. Moreover, it is essential to remind Senator Kwankwaso that he bears a significant responsibility for the actions and reactions of his supporters.

“His incendiary statements can easily be misconstrued and exploited by those who may wish to engage in violence or disorder. The KPRA warns that should any breakdown of law and order occur as a result of his rhetoric, he will be held accountable

“It is the duty of every political leader to foster an environment of peace and security, and we urge him to take this responsibility seriously. The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has consistently demonstrated a commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring a peaceful political environment.

“The allegations made by Senator Kwankwaso are not only baseless but also an affront to the hard work and dedication of those who serve in governance. We encourage all citizens of Kano to remain vigilant against such unfounded claims and to seek the truth through credible sources.”

The group also accused Kwankwaso of a long-standing pattern of confrontational politics driven by personal ambition, warning that such an approach could destabilize the state and undermine democratic discourse.

It called on all political actors to prioritize peace, stability and the collective interest of Kano State over personal or partisan considerations, adding that, “This propensity for aggressive political maneuvering underscores a broader pattern of desperation, wherein the pursuit of power may overshadow the imperative for responsible governance.

“Such a mindset not only threatens to destabilize the political landscape but also risks igniting conflict within the state, ultimately undermining the very foundations of democratic discourse.”
PoliticsCoalition Of Northern Groups Condemns Katsina’s Release Of Bandits by Orabi(op): 4:06pm On Jan 13
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has strongly condemned and rejected the Katsina State Government’s justification for facilitating the release of about 70 suspected and convicted bandits under the guise of sustaining “peace deals”.

The coalition warned that such an approach undermines justice, security, and the authority of the state.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the coalition acknowledged the urgent need to end the bloodshed, kidnappings, and destruction ravaging Katsina State and the wider North-West, but insisted that peace founded on appeasement and judicial compromise is neither sustainable nor just.

CNG faulted the state government’s comparison of the bandits’ release to wartime prisoner exchanges, describing it as “deeply flawed, misleading, and dangerous.”

Charanchi said: “The comparison drawn by the Katsina State Government between the release of bandits and wartime prisoner exchanges is deeply flawed, misleading, and dangerous. Nigeria is not engaged in a conventional war with a recognised adversary bound by rules of engagement.

“Bandits are criminal terrorists who have murdered citizens, razed communities, raped women, displaced families, and destabilised rural economies. Treating them as equal negotiating partners without first breaking their capacity to inflict violence undermines the authority of the state.

“CNG is not opposed to dialogue or reintegration in principle. However, history and basic security logic are clear that negotiations with violent groups must only take place after the state has demonstrated overwhelming capacity to defeat them. Peace must be negotiated from a position of strength, not weakness.

“The coalition argued that what is unfolding in Katsina suggests the reverse: suspects facing trial are being released as preconditions for peace, judicial processes appear subordinated to executive bargaining, and communities continue to experience renewed attacks even as concessions are made.

“This approach sends a dangerous signal that violence pays, justice is negotiable, and the state lacks resolve. Equally troubling is the silence of the Government on the fate of victims and their families. Thousands of citizens have lost loved ones to bandit attacks.

“Homes were burnt, farms destroyed, and entire communities displaced. Many victims and witnesses risked their lives to cooperate with law enforcement and testify in court. Releasing suspects or convicts without transparent truth-telling, judicial closure, restitution, and meaningful compensation amounts to a betrayal of these victims and a grave injustice to society. Peace that ignores justice does not heal; it deepens fear, resentment, and insecurity.

“The timing of this decision further raises serious concerns. The proposed release of bandits is coming amid a resurgence of attacks and killings in parts of Katsina State, including Malumfashi Local Government Area.

“This reality alone exposes the fragility and inconsistency of the peace deals being defended. If the agreements are effective, communities should not still be under siege. If bandits are truly repentant, violence should not persist. These contradictions demand honest answers.”

The coalition called on the Federal Government and relevant security agencies, including the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and other intelligence bodies, to urgently intensify and better coordinate efforts to tackle banditry and terrorism across Northern Nigeria.

He urged the Katsina State Government to immediately suspend any plan to release suspected or convicted bandits under peace arrangements and to fully respect judicial processes, including ongoing trials and sentences.

He further advocated a security-first strategy aimed at decisively degrading the operational capacity of bandits before any dialogue is contemplated.

He said: “Where engagement is eventually considered, it must be transparent, accountable, and anchored on disarmament, restitution, deradicalisation, and long-term monitoring, with victims placed at the centre of the process.

“Peace is not achieved by surrendering the rule of law. Security is not built by rewarding violence. Justice is not optional. Northern Nigeria deserves peace with dignity, security with justice, and leadership that governs with courage and moral clarity. Governments must negotiate from a position of strength, legitimacy, and accountability, not fear and expediency.”

PoliticsKwankwaso’s, Allies Influence Waning In Kano Politics – KPRA by Orabi(op): 6:10pm On Jan 12
The Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA), has declared that the political influence of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and his allies has significantly declined, describing them as increasingly irrelevant in the state’s political landscape.

The group said recent developments in Kano politics have exposed deepening divisions within the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and highlighted what it called the diminishing grip of Kwankwaso and his loyalists on the affairs of the state.

KPRA made the assertion following the recent public appearance of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf amid speculations of a possible defection from the NNPP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Isyaku Lawal Tofa, said the absence of Kwankwaso’s allies from the governor’s engagement reflected their growing detachment from the current political reality in Kano State.

According to the group, the conspicuous absence of key Kwankwaso loyalists, including the NNPP state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, was a clear signal of their declining relevance rather than a coincidence.

Tofa said: “The notion that Kwankwaso remains a pivotal figure in Kano politics is rapidly becoming a relic of the past. The KPRA asserts that the current leadership under Governor Yusuf is capable of steering the state toward progress without the need for Kwankwaso’s manipulative tactics.

“The silencing of Rabiu Kwankwaso from the political landscape of Kano marks a significant turning point in the state's governance and political culture. Often characterized by a confrontational and domineering persona, Kwankwaso's style is perceived as a form of political bullying, often stifling constructive dialogue and marginalizing dissenting voices within the political arena.

“With his exit, there is a palpable sense of relief among many constituents who yearn for a more inclusive and collaborative approach to governance. This transition opens the door for new leadership that prioritizes dialogue over intimidation, fostering a political environment where diverse perspectives can thrive.

“As Kano moves forward, the hope is that the legacy of Kwankwaso's controversial methods will serve as a cautionary tale, prompting future leaders to embrace a more democratic and respectful engagement with the electorate.

“In this light, Kwankwaso's departure can indeed be viewed as a form of good riddance, paving the way for good governance in the state. The KPRA acknowledges the critical roles played by several commissioners and political appointees who attended the Governor’s event.

“Their presence, particularly that of Speaker Ismail Jibril Falgore and Secretary to the State Government Umar Farouk Ibrahim, signifies a collective commitment to the vision that Governor Yusuf has for Kano State.

“This solidarity is essential, especially during periods of uncertainty, as it fosters an environment conducive to governance and progress. The willingness of these leaders to stand together in support of the Governor illustrates a shared belief in the necessity of unity in navigating the challenges that lie ahead.

“The political atmosphere is fraught with challenges that require a united front and a shared commitment to the ideals that brought us together in the first place.”

The group stressed that such solidarity is crucial at a time of political uncertainty, adding that unity among political leaders is necessary to address the challenges facing the state and to ensure effective governance.

KPRA called on NNPP members, particularly those still aligned with the former governor, to reflect on their actions and place the interests of Kano people above personal or factional considerations.

He added, “The time for introspection is now, as the future of our political landscape hangs in the balance. The need for a cohesive and progressive approach to governance is paramount, and it is imperative that individual interests do not overshadow the welfare of the people of Kano.

“Moreover, the KPRA urges those who have chosen to distance themselves from the current leadership to reconsider their stance. The political climate demands adaptability and a willingness to evolve with the changing dynamics of governance.

“The people of Kano deserve leaders who prioritize their welfare over personal or factional interests. The era of divisive politics must give way to a collaborative spirit that seeks to uplift the state and its citizens.

“The KPRA asserts that the time has come for a decisive shift in the political narrative of Kano State. Kwankwaso and his allies, once influential figures, have become increasingly irrelevant in the face of a united front led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“The absence of key loyalists from the former governor is not merely a reflection of their discontent but a clear indication that the political tide is shifting. The KPRA remains committed to advocating for a governance model that prioritizes the collective good over individual ambitions.”
PoliticsNorthern Groups Condemns Condemns Attack On Hausa Traders In Edo, Demands Justic by Orabi(op): 2:22pm On Jan 12
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has strongly condemned the recent unprovoked attack on Hausa traders in Ekpoma, Edo Central, warning that such acts could deepen ethnic tensions if left unaddressed.

The group decried the actions of some youths who reportedly chased Hausa traders out of the livestock market and slaughtered their goats, describing the incident as a grave injustice and a dangerous escalation of communal violence.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group said Hausa traders were seen fleeing the market, abandoning their livestock, while some residents inflicted further harm.

According to reports, the attack followed the killing of a local youth by suspected kidnappers. While acknowledging the pain and anger caused by such a tragedy, CNG said it was unacceptable for innocent traders, who contribute to the local economy and peaceful coexistence, to be targeted.

The CNG also demanded immediate compensation for affected traders, noting that the loss of livestock represents not only economic hardship but also deep emotional and cultural damage.

Charanchi said: “Our traders were seen fleeing the market, their livestock left to wander aimlessly, while some residents took it upon themselves to inflict further harm. Such behavior is not only barbaric but also undermines the very fabric of our society.

“We wish to remind all parties involved that the Hausa community, like any other ethnic group in Nigeria, deserves to live in peace and security. We will no longer sit idly by while our kith and kin are attacked and marginalized in parts of the South, where they reside as minorities.

“The actions of a few irresponsible individuals should not define the relationship between communities that have coexisted for generations. We call upon the Edo State government, led by the governor, to take immediate and decisive action in response to this incident.

“The governor has publicly committed to the protection of all residents, including northerners, and we expect him to uphold these promises. We will hold him accountable for ensuring the safety and security of the Hausa community in Edo Central and beyond.

“Furthermore, we demand immediate compensation for the northerners affected by this senseless violence. The loss of livestock represents not just financial hardship but also a deep emotional and cultural wound.

“It is imperative that the affected traders receive restitution for their losses, as a step toward healing the rifts that have been unjustly widened by this attack.”

The group calls for calm and restraint among Hausa traders, the group said it would engage local leaders in dialogue to address grievances and promote understanding.

Charanchi added, “We reiterate our commitment to protecting the rights and interests of the Hausa community, and we will not hesitate to take further action if necessary.

“We call on all stakeholders to join us in condemning violence and working towards a peaceful resolution that honors the dignity of every Nigerian, regardless of their ethnic background.”
PoliticsKPRA Accuses Kwankwaso Of Meddling In Kano Govt's Corruption Probes by Orabi(op): 1:55pm On Jan 10
The Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA), has strongly condemned former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over alleged attempts to interfere in corruption investigations being carried out by the current state government.

The group said recent developments have exposed what it described as Kwankwaso’s persistent efforts to undermine the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, allegedly in a bid to protect personal interests at the expense of the people of Kano State.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its Chairman, Maikano Danlami, the KPRA accused the former governor of seeking to influence ongoing investigations into contracts allegedly linked to his nephew, Musa Garba, the owner of Novomed Pharmaceuticals.

The KPRA called on Kwankwaso to desist from what it described as interference in the affairs of the state government.

Danlami said: “It has come to our attention that Kwankwaso has been attempting to exert undue influence on the current administration led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, particularly regarding the scandal involving his nephew, Musa Garba, who is the owner of Novomed Pharmaceuticals.

“Allegations have emerged that Garba secured a lucrative contract worth N440 million to supply drugs, a contract that is now under scrutiny by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

“This inquiry was initiated following credible claims of a drug contract scam that has raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability within our state’s procurement processes.

“The gravity of this situation is further compounded by the discovery of additional irregularities, including a borehole water repairs contract valued at approximately N660 million. Such revelations not only tarnish the reputation of our state but also underscore a systemic issue of corruption that has plagued governance in Kano for far too long.

“It is imperative that these matters are thoroughly investigated, and that those found culpable are held accountable. Kwankwaso's disagreements with Governor Yusuf began when the latter publicly denied any knowledge of the controversial contracts.”

Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf, through a joint statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, and the Director General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and due process.

The statement said the governor had directed the Executive Chairman of the PCACC to immediately investigate the allegations, stressing that the action underscored his resolve to uphold the rule of law and protect the interests of the people of Kano State.

Danlami, however, alleged that instead of respecting the authority of the sitting governor and the democratic process, Kwankwaso had intensified efforts to manipulate the situation.

Danlami added, “Reports indicate that he is now fighting tooth and nail to maintain control over state resources, particularly as Governor Yusuf contemplates leaving the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP). This maneuvering not only jeopardizes the integrity of the current administration but also threatens the very fabric of democracy in Kano State.

“The KPRA vehemently condemns Kwankwaso’s actions and calls upon him to cease his attempts to undermine the legitimate government of Kano State. It is time for Kwankwaso to recognize that his tenure has ended, and that the people of Kano deserve a government that prioritizes their needs over personal ambitions.

“His continued interference is not only a disservice to the citizens of Kano but also a betrayal of the trust placed in him during his time in office.”

The group urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and to support the Yusuf administration in its anti-corruption drive, adding that, “The fight against corruption is not the responsibility of the government alone; it requires the active participation of every citizen. We must collectively demand transparency in governance and hold our leaders accountable for their actions.

“As we move forward, the KPRA will continue to advocate for the rights of the people of Kano, ensuring that their voices are heard and their interests are protected. We will not be intimidated by those who seek to exploit our resources for personal gain. Together, we can build a Kano State that is free from corruption and dedicated to the welfare of its citizens.”

He called upon all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, the media, and the general public, to join us in our quest for accountability and good governance.

PoliticsNorthern Youth Frontiers Commends Tinubu’s Economic, Governance Reforms by Orabi(op): 4:41pm On Jan 07
The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as bold and transformative reforms aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s economy and strengthening the nation’s governance framework.

In a statement issued by its Chairman, Sama Musa, the group said President Tinubu’s administration, despite operating in a period of unprecedented challenges, has prioritised long-term stability, growth and prosperity for Nigerians through far-reaching policy decisions.

According to the NYF, the removal of fuel subsidies, though initially difficult for citizens, represents a critical step towards fiscal responsibility and sustainable development.

Musa said: “This decisive action, while initially difficult for many Nigerians, is a necessary step towards building a more resilient economy that is less dependent on oil revenues. The liberalization of the foreign exchange market and the unification of exchange rates have brought much-needed stability to the Naira.

“These steps are crucial in attracting foreign investment and enhancing the competitiveness of Nigerian businesses on the global stage. Furthermore, the introduction of new tax laws under the 2025 Acts has simplified tax administration, providing relief for low earners and incentivizing technological innovation through support for startups.

“These measures are vital for generating revenue, reducing our reliance on oil, and creating a more diversified economy.
Infrastructure development is another cornerstone of President Tinubu's reforms. The ambitious Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway are set to enhance national connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and stimulate economic activities across regions.

“The AKK Gas Pipeline initiative promises to revolutionize our energy system, ensuring that Nigeria harnesses its vast natural resources to meet the energy needs of its citizens and industries.”

NYF applauded reforms in the Federal Civil Service, particularly the emphasis on rewards, recognition and mentoring, which it said would promote excellence and accountability in public service.

The group also commended improved border management and digital immigration processes, including the introduction of e-visas and the Advanced Passenger Information (API) system, describing them as innovative steps that prioritise efficiency and national security.

Musa added, “The administration's commitment to social welfare is evident in the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which aims to support students in pursuing their educational dreams.

“Moreover, youth empowerment programs such as the Leadership Empowerment and Employment Program (LEEP), the Jubilee Fellows, and the 3 Million Tech Talent (3MTT) initiative are commendable efforts to harness the potential of Nigeria's youth and equip them with the skills necessary for success in a rapidly changing world.

“While we acknowledge these positive strides, it is imperative to address the challenges that accompany such sweeping reforms. The surge in inflation, which has exceeded 34%, and the rising cost of living are legitimate concerns that impact the daily lives of Nigerians.”

He urged the Federal Government to implement targeted interventions to cushion the effects of the reforms on vulnerable populations.

The NYF aligned with the Arewa Joint Initiative for Peace, expressing optimism that Nigeria would overcome current economic challenges through resilience and collective effort.

“We believe that the reforms initiated by President Tinubu will lead to an economic turning point after 2024, attracting renewed investment and stabilising the economy for future generations,” the statement said.

The group concluded by commending President Tinubu for his courage and vision, while calling on Nigerians to support the ongoing reforms, engage in constructive dialogue and work collectively towards building a prosperous and peaceful nation.
SportsAFCON 2025: Ajade Backs Super Eagles For Title by Orabi(op): 2:15pm On Jan 07
The Chief Executive Officer of Skyline School Sports Ltd, Mr. Johnson Ajade, has expressed strong confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to win the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, urging stakeholders and football supporters across the country to sustain their support for the team.

He expressed confidence in the ability of Nigeria's Senior National Men team to go all the way and win the trophy.

Ajade disclosed this in an exclusive chat with The Guardian, where he reviewed the Super Eagles’ performances so far in the tournament, describing the team as balanced, competitive and capable of rising to the demands of the knockout stages.

According to him, the current Super Eagles squad blends experienced internationals with exciting young talents, giving the team depth across all departments.

He noted that this balance has allowed Nigeria to compete effectively both in high-tempo matches and in games requiring patience and tactical control.

Ajade explained that the tournament is expected to become significantly more demanding from the quarter-final stage, where games are often decided by fine margins such as tactical discipline, in-game management and mental strength rather than sheer individual brilliance.

Ajade also emphasised the importance of discipline and composure on the pitch, especially in high-pressure knockout matches where officiating decisions and provocation from opponents can influence outcomes.

He said: “As the tournament progresses to the quarter-final stage, the competition will take a different dimension. To emerge champions, the team must be well prepared to face and defeat any opponent, no matter how formidable.

“The players must also remain calm and focused on the pitch at all times. There is no need for unnecessary confrontation with teammates, opponents or match officials.”

He stressed that while the Super Eagles possess abundant talent and are equal to the task, success in the latter stages would depend largely on the technical crew’s ability to read opponents, make timely tactical adjustments and manage players effectively.

He stressed that continued support from fans, administrators and the wider football community would play a vital role in boosting the team’s morale, noting that collective belief and unity could make the difference as the Super Eagles push for a record-extending AFCON title.

Ajade expressed optimism that with the right approach, tactical discipline and sustained support, the Super Eagles have what it takes to go all the way and lift the trophy in Morocco.
PoliticsNorthern Groups Raises Alarm Over Wike’s Conduct, Warns Against Abuse Of Power by Orabi(op): 12:49pm On Jan 06
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has expressed deep concern over what it described as a series of irresponsible actions by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, warning that his conduct poses a threat to democratic governance and institutional integrity in Nigeria.

The CNG cited what it described as the most glaring example of overreach as the alleged manipulation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the coalition accused Wike of repeatedly overstepping the boundaries of his office and interfering in matters beyond his constitutional mandate.

Charanchi said: “It is imperative to address these issues publicly, as they not only threaten the integrity of the political landscape but also undermine the principles of governance and accountability that should guide our nation.

“Wike's tenure has been marked by a troubling pattern of behavior that includes unwarranted encroachments into territories beyond his jurisdiction. His blatant disregard for the boundaries of his office is alarming. As a minister, Wike is expected to uphold the principles of federalism and respect the autonomy of state governments.

“However, his actions suggest a troubling propensity to interfere in the affairs of political parties and to muscle opponents, thereby crossing the red lines of tolerance that are essential for a functional democracy.

“One of the most egregious examples of Wike's overreach is his recent manipulation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed. This blatant misuse of power is pushing the limits of tolerance far too far and is simply unacceptable.

“The response from the EFCC to Governor Mohammed's remarks is nothing short of a scripted defense for Wike's political maneuverings, raising serious questions about the independence of this critical institution.”

The group warned that Wike does not have a monopoly on power or political influence, adding that “in the fullness of time, excesses are often repaid in equal measure.”

The coalition also cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be vigilant, warning that Wike’s alleged actions, if left unchecked, could tarnish the integrity of the administration and undermine democratic principles.

Charanchi added, “The EFCC's assertion that it operates independently and without bias is undermined by its actions, which have increasingly appeared to cater to the whims of political figures like Wike.

“The Commission's dismissal of Governor Mohammed's claims as "wild" and "far-fetched" is not only dismissive but also indicative of a troubling trend where the EFCC is being weaponized against political opponents. It is disheartening to see an agency that should be focused on combating economic and financial crimes being used as a tool for political persecution.

“The EFCC's insistence that no political officeholder can influence its investigations is a statement that rings hollow in light of the current circumstances. The timing of the investigations into Governor Mohammed, especially given his previous legal challenges, raises significant concerns about the motivations behind these actions.

“It is crucial to remember that political accountability should not be a selective process; it must apply equally to all politicians, regardless of their affiliations. The Coalition of Northern Groups warns President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be vigilant against the escalating atrocities committed by Wike.

“If left unchecked, these actions could tarnish the integrity of his administration and undermine his statesmanship. The time for decisive action is now; it is imperative that the President takes a stand against the misuse of power and the erosion of democratic principles.

“Nyesom Wike's tenure has raised significant concerns regarding the integrity of democratic institutions in Rivers State, particularly as he has compromised the independence of the police, judiciary, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“This erosion of institutional integrity has manifested in a troubling trend of interference with the internal affairs of opposition parties, undermining the foundational principles of democracy.

“Wike's recent actions to destabilize the People's Democratic Party (PDP) suggest a continued commitment to exert influence beyond his official capacity, raising alarms about the potential for factionalism within the party. This situation underscores the critical need for a robust civil society and vigilant citizenry to safeguard democratic processes and ensure accountability.

“The CNG is particularly concerned about the ongoing confusion regarding the locus of power in Nigeria. The political landscape has become muddled with questions about whether Wike or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu holds the real power.

“This ambiguity not only undermines the authority of elected officials but also contributes to a governance crisis that could destabilize the nation. The implications of such a power struggle are profound, and if left unchecked, could lead to further erosion of democratic norms.”

The CNG warns that if Wike’s actions continue unchecked, we risk repeating the mistakes of our past. Political instability, characterized by unrest and disillusionment among the populace, threatens the very foundation of our democracy.

“It is imperative that we learn from history and take proactive measures to safeguard our democratic institutions.
Furthermore, Wike’s interference in opposition parties raises serious ethical concerns. Reports of him utilizing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police and biased judicial officials to undermine rival political factions are deeply troubling.

“Such actions not only compromise the integrity of the electoral process but also erode public trust in our democratic institutions. A healthy democracy thrives on competition and the free exchange of ideas, and any attempt to stifle this is an affront to the rights of citizens,” he added.

The Groups call for vigilance in preserving democratic norms and electoral integrity in Nigeria. We emphasize the need for accountability and the importance of respecting citizens' rights and voices in our political landscape.

The CNG urges all Nigerians to stand firm in the defense of democracy. We must collectively reject the tactics of intimidation and suppression that threaten our democratic ideals. Together, we can ensure that the voices of the people are heard and respected, paving the way for a brighter and more democratic future for Nigeria.

The CNG called on the EFCC to focus strictly on its statutory mandate of combating financial crimes without yielding to political pressure, and urged civil society, political parties and citizens to remain vigilant in defending democracy, electoral integrity and the rule of law.

“The political landscape of Nigeria must be safeguarded from the excesses of individuals who seek to manipulate institutions for personal gain.”
PoliticsKano Rights Group Warns Against Alleged Political Interference, Accuses Kwankwas by Orabi(op): 7:25pm On Jan 03
The Kano People’s Rights Alliance (KPRA), on Saturday, issued a strong warning over what it described as emerging authoritarian tendencies in Kano State, accusing former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of attempting to exert undue influence over the current administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The group accused Kwankwaso of attempting to manipulate the political landscape of the state, describing such actions as a dangerous drift towards autocracy.

In a statement by its Chairman, Maikano Danlami, the group alleged that Kwankwaso’s actions pose a serious threat to democratic governance and the sovereignty of the elected government in the state.

According to KPRA, any attempt by a former governor to influence or control the affairs of the present administration undermines the will of the electorate and erodes the foundations of democracy in Kano State.

He said: “We must remind Kwankwaso that the people of Kano have spoken through the ballot, and it is their will that must prevail. Kwankwaso’s attempts to manipulate the political landscape of Kano reflect a dangerous trend toward autocracy.

“His actions suggest a desire to control the current administration, stifling the voices of the people and disregarding the democratic process that brought Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into power.

“This is not merely a political maneuver; it is an affront to the rights of the citizens of Kano, who deserve the autonomy to make their own decisions without the shadow of outdated political machinations.

“The Kano People's Rights Alliance believes that the people of Kano are capable of determining their own future. We reject any notion that suggests that a former governor should dictate the actions of an elected leader.

“The era of political overlords who seek to impose their will upon the people must come to an end. We call upon Rabiu Kwankwaso to respect the democratic process and allow Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to govern without interference.

“It is time for Kwankwaso to step back and allow the current administration to fulfill its mandate as entrusted by the electorate.
We urge the citizens of Kano to remain vigilant and to recognize the signs of an emerging dictatorship. It is our collective responsibility to safeguard our democracy and to ensure that our leaders are held accountable to the people they serve.

“We must not allow fear or intimidation to silence our voices or diminish our rights. The Kano People's Rights Alliance calls on all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, political parties, and the media, to join us in this fight for democracy and the rights of the people. Together, we can resist the encroachment of authoritarianism and ensure that the will of the people prevails.”

The group also called on residents of Kano State to remain vigilant and alert to what it described as signs of emerging dictatorship, stressing that safeguarding democracy is a collective responsibility.

He said: “We reaffirm our commitment to the principles of democracy and the rights of the people of Kano State. We demand that Rabiu Kwankwaso cease his attempts to control the current administration and allow the people of Kano to chart their own course.

“The time for outdated political interference is over; the people of Kano deserve to make their own decisions in a free and democratic society.”

Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles and the rights of Kano citizens, the group demanded that Kwankwaso cease any attempts to control the present administration.
PoliticsDWI Accuses EFCC Of Political Bias, Warns Against Vendetta On Gov Mohammed by Orabi(op): 6:29pm On Jan 02
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), has condemned what it described as the misuse of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for political vendetta, following recent developments surrounding allegations raised by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

In a statement issued on Friday, by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji O. Bamidele, the group expressed deep concern over the EFCC’s response to the governor’s claims, alleging that the anti-graft agency is being weaponised by certain political interests to undermine the Bauchi State administration.

He said: “The EFCC, as a purportedly independent agency tasked with combating economic and financial crimes, has a responsibility to operate without political bias.

“However, the Commission's response to Governor Mohammed's claims reveals a troubling trend: the use of state institutions to pursue political agendas rather than uphold justice.”

DWI further alleged that the unfolding events point to a broader political scheme involving powerful actors, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The group urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, warning that allowing the EFCC to be influenced by political actors could plunge the administration into a serious political crisis and weaken democratic institutions.

He added, “It is imperative to highlight that while the EFCC claims to be non-partisan, the reality of its operations suggests otherwise. The insinuation that Governor Mohammed's calls for accountability are mere fabrications is not only a mischaracterization but also a dangerous precedent.

“When a sitting governor, who has been a vocal advocate for transparency and good governance, is subjected to what appears to be politically motivated investigations, it raises significant concerns about the integrity of our democratic institutions.

“We urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take heed of this alarming situation. Allowing the EFCC to be manipulated by political actors could drag his administration into a deep political crisis, undermining the very foundations of democracy that his government is expected to uphold.

“The President must ensure that the EFCC operates independently, free from the influence of those seeking to leverage state power for personal vendettas.

“Furthermore, it is crucial to remind the EFCC that its mandate is to uphold the rule of law and ensure public accountability, not to serve as a tool for political retribution.

“The agency's recent actions against Governor Mohammed and his aides must be scrutinized for their legitimacy and motivations. If the EFCC continues to operate under the shadow of political manipulation, it risks losing public trust and credibility, which are essential for effective governance.

“Governor Mohammed's past legal challenges should not be used to justify the current wave of accusations against him. The public deserves transparency and fairness in all investigations, irrespective of political affiliations.

“The selective outrage exhibited by opposition politicians when members of their ranks face scrutiny, contrasted with their silence when members of the ruling party are implicated, is hypocritical and detrimental to our democracy.”

The Democracy Watch Initiative urged the EFCC to refocus on its primary mandate of fighting economic and financial crimes, while calling on Governor Bala Mohammed to remain committed to governance and the welfare of the people of Bauchi State.

The group emphasised that democracy can only thrive where accountability, fairness and the public interest take precedence over personal and political grievances.
