The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on School Feeding, Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, has called on youths especially women across Nigeria to continue believing in themselves and to remain committed to driving positive change in their communities and the nation.

She also expressed support for the Reserved Seats Bill for Women being considered by the National Assembly, describing it as a crucial step toward ensuring women’s inclusion in governance and policymaking.

Adeniji, disclosed this in Abuja, while addressing youths at the 10th Anniversary and Inauguration Ceremony of the National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN), where new national executives of the association were officially sworn in.

Themed “Trailblazers: Female Students Leading for National Transformation,” the anniversary celebration also featured inspiring speeches on women’s roles in national development and leadership.

She commended the association for its commitment to nurturing young female leaders and shaping them into agents of transformation, describing NFSAN as a “top contender” in promoting governance and social impact among students.

She said: “I would urge the youths to continue to believe in themselves, to believe in their passion, to believe in creating a change, especially in their communities and in the society. It’s a breath of fresh air, seeing young women want to create impact within their community.

“At the level where we are trying to bring young minds from schools, we are trying to mold them and shape them into becoming pillars of society. So I commend the National Association of Female Students and I want to continue to encourage them to be more than they are.”

According to her, the association is making meaningful contributions toward preparing young minds for national development

Adeniji also expressed support for the Reserved Seats Bill for Women being considered by the National Assembly, describing it as a crucial step toward ensuring women’s inclusion in governance and policymaking.

She added, “I’m glad that the National Assembly is coming up with this reserved seats bill for women. It’s a very important bill. What we are looking at is more seats on the table for women. That is the only way our voices can be heard.

“I would continue to tell them not to give up, not to relent. Let’s see how we can work together to ensure that we create the change that we’re looking for.

“A woman is not only a home builder, she is a nation builder. When a woman rises in wisdom, leadership, and courage, a community changes, a generation is inspired, and a nation is transformed.”

She urged female students to keep advocating for greater participation of women at all levels, from local communities to the national stage, and to work together in creating the change they desire.

At the event, a paper titled “Women Spearheading National Transformation” delivered by Ijeoma Emeribe, represented by Pastor Mrs. Sabina Adepoju of Priesthood Stream Church, Abuja, highlighted the central role of women in driving social and spiritual renewal in society.

She cited biblical and contemporary examples of women who have demonstrated courage and purpose in leadership, from Deborah and Esther to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, emphasizing that “when women rise, nations rise.”

In her inaugural address, the newly inaugurated National President of NFSAN, Comrade Faith Progress Istifanus, pledged to strengthen the association’s role as a formidable voice for female students in Nigeria and a driver of gender inclusion, academic excellence, and leadership development.

She outlined key priorities for her tenure, including promoting mentorship, entrepreneurship, and digital empowerment; advocating for gender equity; and building strategic partnerships with government and private institutions.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Gender Education, Engagement, Empowerment, and Entrepreneurship (G4E) Program, Hon. Judith Mayen Etuk-Ogbara, described the anniversary as a celebration of “a decade of resilience and triumph” for Nigerian female students.

She challenged NFSAN members to push for greater leadership roles, including producing the first female President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

She said: “This is the time to make history, to produce the first female NANS President. Not by tokenism, but by merit, capacity, and courage.”

Etuk-Ogbara urged the new NFSAN leadership to deepen its impact, strengthen partnerships, and remain a platform for mentorship and empowerment, adding that “empowered women don’t wait for history, they make it.”

The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI), on Monday, expressed profound solidarity and unalloyed support for the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, following the monumental announcement of Nigeria’s official removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Samaila Musa, the GMI described the development as a decisive victory for Nigeria’s economic sovereignty, institutional integrity, and global credibility under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said: “This achievement, successfully communicated by the Presidency’s strategic team, is not merely a technical compliance milestone; it is a decisive victory for Nigeria’s economic sovereignty, institutional integrity, and global credibility under the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Nafiu Bala

The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has reassured members and the general public of its commitment to restoring the integrity and glory of the party, which it said had been infiltrated by individuals described as “political vagabonds and refugees.”

In a statement issued by the Acting National Chairman of the ADC, Hon. Nafiu Bala, the party leadership condemned the activities of persons allegedly parading themselves as members and leaders of the ADC without proper registration or recognition.

According to Hon. Bala, the infiltration of such individuals into the party brought along negative traits that disrupted the once peaceful structure of the ADC.

Bala said: “The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress the general public, particularly the faithful members of our esteemed party, ADC, to note that the bonafide leaders of this great party is working assiduously leaving no stone unturned in restoring the glory of the party hitherto infiltrated by political vagabonds, Who sneaked into the party through the back door.

“The infiltration of these political refugees into our great party infested the party those notorious characteristics they are known with, to wit, Causing confusion amongst party members as witnessed in the burning of party offices in Ekiti State and Kaduna State.”

He noted that these elements have a history of imposing leadership arbitrarily, thereby causing unrest and disunity wherever they operate.

He added, “ADC Leadership wishes to make it clear that these elements who parambulate as party members without registration to forthwith desist from tempering with the hitherto peaceful ADC structure. ADC is not a refugee camp where political vagabonds sneak in without protocols.

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, hasvcondemned in strong terms the verbal attack launched by the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Abdullahi, against former Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

It recalled that Abdullahi, while appearing on Arise Television earlier in the week, had claimed that Ugwuanyi’s political influence had diminished in Enugu State.

Abdullahi went further to mock the former governor, alleging that he had reduced himself to a personal aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, “literally carrying Wike’s bag.”

Reacting to the statement, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement, described Abdullahi’s comments as “reckless, baseless and a product of selective amnesia.”

Okwu said it was either the PDP spokesman had chosen to ignore Ugwuanyi’s towering political stature or was deliberately attempting to malign his image.

Okwu said: “Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as governor of Enugu State recorded the highest percentage of votes ever witnessed in the state during his second term election in 2019.

He said: “His percentage of victory is a history that may not be easy for anyone to break in the State again.

“That His Excellency, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a gentle man and has maintained that posture does not in any way diminish his political sagacity and acceptability in Enugu State.

“Two years after leaving office, Ugwuanyi (Gburugburu) still remains very popular and much admired by the people.

“It is, therefore, illogical and baseless for the PDP spokesman to claim that Ugwuanyi’s influence has diminished.”

Okwu added, “The anger of the PDP spokesman stems from Ugwuanyi’s defection to the APC, alongside Governor Peter Mbah. We know where his anger is coming from; the PDP is all tears for losing such a calibre of people to the APC.

“But the party is behind its own woes; it should reap what it sowed by neglecting the South-East despite drawing its strength from the zone over the years.

“The PDP should cry a river, it won’t change anything. We are solidly behind Ugwuanyi and Mbah for dumping the party. We also re-affirm our confidence and belief in Ugwuanyi as a leader, with whom we are well pleased.”

The Forum of Victims of Separatist Violence (FVSV), a coalition representing families of slain civilians, traders, farmers, and security personnel, on Sunday, voiced strong opposition to recent calls for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement signed by Chief Dr. Ernest Ezenwo, Chairman, and Mrs. Godiya Sunday, Secretary, the forum said it speaks “from a place of deep pain and unhealed wounds,” urging the Federal Government to resist political pressure and allow the judiciary to complete Kanu’s trial in accordance with the law.

The group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to stand firm, uphold the principle of separation of powers, and allow the judiciary to handle the case without interference.

The statement read: “We speak not from politics, but from sorrow. From the graves of our loved ones. From the burnt remains of our homes and businesses. From the silence of children who will never again hear their parents’ voices.

“We have watched with anguish as some groups call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the very man whose hate-filled messages and reckless incitements inspired violence, killings, and destruction. We say no, not out of hatred, but out of love for justice and peace.

“Releasing him under political pressure would not heal this nation, it would deepen the pain, mock the sacrifices of our fallen heroes, and betray the blood of those who stood to defend Nigeria’s unity."

The group accused Kanu of being the originator of hate-filled and inciting rhetoric that allegedly inspired waves of violence, killings, and destruction across parts of the country, particularly in the Southeast.

The FVSV warned that releasing Kanu under political pressure would amount to mocking the sacrifices of Nigeria’s security personnel and innocent citizens who lost their lives defending national unity.

He said: “Our gallant soldiers, police officers, and others died in the line of duty, protecting citizens and the flag. Their widows still cry. Their children still ask, ‘Why did Daddy not come home?’ Their courage must not be rewarded with injustice.

“We are not asking for vengeance. We are asking for fairness. We are asking for a Nigeria where the law protects both the weak and the brave.”

The forum appealed to Nigerians to let justice, rather than politics or sentiment, guide national decisions, adding that, “Let the cries of the victims and the blood of our heroes remind us that peace without justice is merely silence before the next storm.”

The Labour Party Candidates Forum (LPCF), has condemned what it described as the blatant disobedience of court judgments sacking Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), accusing both Abure and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of disregarding the rule of law.

The forum reaffirmed its loyalty and solidarity to the leadership of Senator Usman and Senator Nwokocha, urging all aggrieved members to return and join efforts to rebuild the party.

The forum’s chairman and the Labour Party’s 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate, Barr. Okeme Adejoh, disclosed in Abuja, during a press briefing, the group decried the continued recognition of Abure despite clear judicial pronouncements terminating his leadership.

The forums reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law and internal democracy, vowing to continue its efforts to protect the integrity of the Labour Party and ensure compliance with judicial decisions.

Adejoh said the Supreme Court judgment of April 4, 2025, and the Federal High Court judgment of August 15, 2025, both declared that Abure’s tenure had expired, yet INEC and Abure “continue to act in contempt of the courts.”

He said: “The judgments of the courts are meant to be obeyed by the parties involved, not the other way round. If court judgments are not obeyed, then they are not judgments but tissue paper.”

The forum criticized Abure’s recent participation in INEC’s quarterly meeting with political parties, describing the move as a “direct affront” to the authority of the judiciary and “a contempt of both the Supreme Court and Federal High Court judgments.”

Adejoh emphasized that the forum would not stand idly by while court orders are flouted, warning that members are prepared to explore all legal means, including peaceful protests, to ensure compliance with the rulings.

He called on INEC to remove Abure’s name from its official portal and recognize Distinguished Senator Nenadi Usman as the Interim National Chairman and Distinguished Senator Darlington Nwokocha as the National Secretary, in accordance with the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) decision.

He added, “INEC must not allow its name to be dragged into the mud by illegal former executives of the Labour Party who have chosen to disobey court judgments.”

Also speaking, the immediate past National Youth Leader of the Labour Party, Comrade Eragbe Anslem, alleged that there was a “conspiracy” against the party within certain political circles.

He said: “There is a Supreme Court judgment of April 4, 2025, which dismissed the Federal High Court judgment of October 8, 2024, that accorded Abure recognition as chairman of the party. The Supreme Court also dismissed the Appeal Court judgment of January 17, 2025, that similarly upheld that lower court’s decision.”

Anslem maintained that the Supreme Court ruling remains final and binding, stressing that “any attempt to disregard it is not only illegal but contemptuous.”

In his remarks, the 2023 Ebonyi State governorship candidate and Secretary of the Labour Party Candidates Forum, Comrade Splendour Oko Eze, also condemned the disregard for judicial authority, insisting that the Supreme Court’s decision on Abure’s removal remains final and binding.

He said: “There is no court in Nigeria that is higher than the Supreme Court. As far as the Supreme Court has ruled that Julius Abure’s tenure has expired, there is no kangaroo arrangement that can overturn that.”

Eze appealed to the newly confirmed INEC Chairman, describing him as a lawyer who should “understand the law better,” to respect the Supreme Court ruling submitted to the commission.

He added, “Nigeria can only get better when the laws of the land are obeyed. Disobedience to court orders breeds incompetence, autocracy, and anarchy. That will not augur well for the country.

“The Labour Party has come to stay, and it remains the only party that can give Nigerians true victory come 2027. We invite all genuine members to join us as we rebuild the party.”

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has condemned the planned nationwide protests calling for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), describing the move as a dangerous blackmail against the Nigerian state.

The group accused certain politicians and activists of hypocrisy and ethnic bias, warning that their current agitation for Kanu’s release is a calculated political maneuver ahead of the 2027 elections.

The National Coordinator of CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press briefing, said the agitation, allegedly spearheaded by some Igbo political and cultural elites, activist Omoyele Sowore, and a few “unpatriotic northern collaborators,” amounts to a direct attempt to intimidate the judiciary and destabilize the country’s fragile peace.

The group recalled since 2016, Nnamdi Kanu has been accused of using IPOB and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), to promote hate, division, and violence, resulting in widespread killings, destruction of public infrastructure, and targeted attacks against security operatives and Northerners in the Southeast. In 2017, it issued the historic Kaduna Declaration, warning both Nigeria and the international community about the growing threat of IPOB’s violent separatism.

Charanchi maintained that recent events have vindicated its position, arguing that “unchecked extremism only grows into full-blown terrorism.”

CNG also said it had petitioned global organizations such as the United Nations, African Union, ECOWAS, and the International Criminal Court (ICC), detailing IPOB’s alleged human rights abuses and calls for ethnic cleansing.

He stressed that no amount of protest, media propaganda, or emotional manipulation would erase IPOB’s atrocities or compel the Nigerian state to compromise the rule of law.

Charanchi said: “The Coalition of Northern Groups reaffirms that no nation can survive when treason is rewarded and justice is politicized. Releasing Nnamdi Kanu under mob pressure would not heal Nigeria; it would embolden lawlessness and erode public confidence in justice.

“The CNG stands firm in defense of the rule of law, national unity, and the memory of those who paid the ultimate price for peace. The group calls on President Tinubu, political leaders, and Nigerians at large to choose justice over sentiment, and national interest over sectional appeasement. Nigeria must not bow to emotional blackmail. The law must take its course, for without justice, there can be no peace.”

CNG further noted that more than 400 security personnel had been killed in IPOB-related attacks, leaving behind widows, orphans, and grieving families, insisting that justice for these victims must never be compromised.

The Coalition made several calls and demands, urging both the government and citizens to uphold justice and resist intimidation.

He added, “CNG condemns unequivocally the planned protests for Kanu’s release, describing them as reckless, provocative, and a direct affront to Nigeria’s sovereignty and judiciary.

“Urges the Federal Government to see Kanu’s trial to its logical conclusion, ensuring that justice is neither delayed nor diluted under political pressure. Calls on security agencies to remain alert and proactive in preventing any breakdown of law and order during these orchestrated protests.

“Demands an immediate investigation into individuals and organizations funding, coordinating, or promoting these destabilizing protests under the guise of human rights advocacy.

“Warring with the sacred principles of separation of powers and judicial independence President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reclaim his statesmanship by resisting every attempt to cajole or blackmail the Presidency into interfering.

“Appeals to patriotic Nigerians, especially peace-loving citizens of the Southeast, to reject calls to anarchy, embrace dialogue, and support genuine efforts toward development, peace, and unity.”

Citing reports between 2021 and 2024, the group alleged that IPOB and ESN were responsible for over 387 attacks, resulting in more than 600 deaths and the displacement of over 80,000 people in the Southeast.

During the #EndSARS protests of 2020, CNG accused Nnamdi Kanu of hijacking the movement through inflammatory broadcasts, which, according to the group, helped turn a peaceful protest into chaos that led to arson, looting, and attacks on security formations.

“Over 100 police stations were burnt, the Oba of Lagos’s palace was desecrated, and property worth over ₦200 billion was destroyed. These are not the actions of a freedom fighter but of someone bent on tearing the country apart,” he said.

A coalition of Northern groups under the aegis of the Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent declaration supporting planned protests to demand the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The group described Atiku’s position as “deeply inconsistent and ethically troubling,” arguing that it raises serious concerns about his credibility and suitability to lead Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Sama Musa, the coalition said Atiku’s stance goes beyond a mere political comment, insisting that it exposes a “profound disregard for the lives and welfare of countless Nigerians who suffered as a result of Kanu’s incitement.”

He said: “The tragic loss of life, particularly among the over 500 Northerners and law enforcement personnel attributed to Kanu's incitement, cannot be overlooked or trivialized.

“These are not mere statistics; they represent families torn apart, communities shattered, and a collective grief that resonates through the fabric of society. Atiku Abubakar's response to such a humanitarian crisis is not only a reflection of their values but also a litmus test of their commitment to the people they aspire to lead.

“Atiku Abubakar's apparent indifference to this crisis is deeply concerning. By advocating for the unconditional release of a figure whose actions have incited violence and division, he sends a troubling message: that the lives lost and the suffering endured by countless individuals in the North are secondary to political expediency.

“This stance raises significant ethical questions. How can a leader claim to represent the interests of all citizens while simultaneously disregarding the pain and suffering of a substantial segment of the population? The Northern Youth Frontiers believes that a leader must embody empathy and understanding, qualities that seem to be lacking in Abubakar's current approach.

A coalition of Northern groups under the aegis of the Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent declaration supporting planned protests to demand the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The group described Atiku’s position as “deeply inconsistent and ethically troubling,” arguing that it raises serious concerns about his credibility and suitability to lead Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Sama Musa, the coalition said Atiku’s stance goes beyond a mere political comment, insisting that it exposes a “profound disregard for the lives and welfare of countless Nigerians who suffered as a result of Kanu’s incitement.”

He said: “The tragic loss of life, particularly among the over 500 Northerners and law enforcement personnel attributed to Kanu's incitement, cannot be overlooked or trivialized.

“These are not mere statistics; they represent families torn apart, communities shattered, and a collective grief that resonates through the fabric of society. Atiku Abubakar's response to such a humanitarian crisis is not only a reflection of their values but also a litmus test of their commitment to the people they aspire to lead.

The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), has strongly condemned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent call for the unconditional release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, describing the stance as “foolhardy, arrogant, and deeply contradictory.”

In a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji Bamidele, the group accused Atiku of political hypocrisy and inconsistency, saying his position raises questions about his commitment to justice, national unity, and the rule of law.

He said: “Atiku's political philosophy and personal integrity. His stance can be characterized as foolhardy, arrogant, and deeply contradictory, raising serious questions about his commitment to justice and national unity.

“Atiku Abubakar, in his pursuit of political capital, has chosen to align himself with a figure who stands accused of grave offenses against the Nigerian state. Nnamdi Kanu is currently facing serious charges, including terrorism and treasonable felony, which involve incitement to insurrection, the killings of security personnel, and the destruction of public and private property.

“These are not mere allegations; they represent a significant threat to the stability and security of our nation. By advocating for Kanu's unconditional release, Atiku not only undermines the rule of law but also sends a dangerous message to those who have suffered at the hands of Kanu’s actions.

The group expressed dismay that Atiku would “challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to pardon small-scale offenders while simultaneously supporting Kanu’s release,” describing it as a “glaring contradiction.

He added, “How can one advocate for leniency towards a figure accused of inciting violence and chaos while condemning the same leniency for lesser offenders? This inconsistency is not merely a flaw in his argument; it is a reflection of a deeper insecurity in his political identity.

“We must consider the implications of Atiku's stance on the families of the security personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty. How does Atiku expect the families of these brave individuals to react to the prospect of Kanu's release? What message does this send to the families of innocent citizens who have also suffered due to the violence and unrest incited by Kanu and his followers?

“To advocate for Kanu's release without justice being served is to disregard the pain and suffering of countless Nigerians who have been affected by his actions. It is an affront to the memories of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

“Atiku's call for Kanu's release risks undermining the morale of our security forces. The men and women who serve in the armed forces do so with the understanding that their sacrifices are recognized and that justice will prevail. To release Kanu as Atiku proposes would send a demoralizing message: that those who threaten the integrity of the state can evade accountability.

The group urged Nigerians to critically reassess Atiku’s suitability for leadership positions in light of what it described as “his indifference to the tragic loss of life, particularly the over 500 Northerners and law enforcement officers killed as a result of Kanu’s incitement.

“A leader must demonstrate genuine concern for the welfare of all citizens, and Atiku's lack of response to such a grave humanitarian crisis suggests a troubling disregard for the very lives he seeks to represent. Therefore, we urge the public to reconsider their support for his candidacy.”

The Odua People’s Assembly (OPA), has strongly condemned what it described as a “provocative and insensitive” campaign by activist Omoyele Sowore, calling for the unconditional release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement issued by its National Chairman, Kayode Richard Olatunji, the group said Sowore’s campaign was misguided and undermined the collective efforts of Nigerians, especially communities in the Southwest, to recover from the devastating effects of the unrest allegedly incited by Kanu during the #EndSARS protests of 2020.

Recall that in October 2020, tens of thousands of young Nigerians took to the streets to protest against police brutality, particularly the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The protests, known as the #EndSARS demonstrations began as a peaceful call for justice and reform.

He said: “The #EndSARS protests represented a collective yearning for a better Nigeria, free from the oppressive practices of law enforcement agencies. However, this hopeful narrative took a dark turn when Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), intervened.

“His incendiary remarks on Biafra radio incited violence, calling for the killing of security personnel and the destruction of public and private properties. Kanu’s rhetoric not only undermined the peaceful nature of the protests but also provided a dangerous rallying point for those seeking to exploit the situation for their own agendas.

“One such incident was the brazen attack on the palace of the Oba of Lagos by members of the IPOB acting on Kanu’s incitement. The attack resulted in the theft of significant sums of money and the desecration of a cultural institution.

“The invasion of the Oba of Lagos's palace by IPOB members was not just an act of vandalism; it represented a profound breach of cultural and traditional authority. The palace, a symbol of the Yoruba monarchy and a site of historical significance, was stormed by individuals who, reportedly incited by the group's leadership, sought to assert their political agenda through violence.

“The act of whisking away the Oba’s staff of authority, a revered symbol of kingship, underscored the gravity of the situation. This act was not merely a theft; it was an affront to the very fabric of Yoruba culture and an attempt to undermine the traditional leadership that plays a crucial role in community cohesion.

“The theft of $2 million and N17 million (approximately N787 million) during the raid further illustrates the chaos caused by Kanu’s incitement. While the #EndSARS movement aimed to address police brutality, the actions of the IPOB thugs revealed a stark contrast between the ideals of the protest and the reality of the violence that ensued.

“Such actions not only diverted attention from the original goals of the protests but also fueled narratives of lawlessness and disorder that detracted from the legitimacy of the movement.”

OPA also warned that rekindling such divisive advocacy could reignite old tensions, threatening the peace and unity of the Southwest.

He added, “The aftermath of Kanu's incitement was catastrophic. In Lagos and its surrounding areas, IPOB thugs seized the opportunity presented by the #EndSARS movement to unleash a wave of violence and destruction. On October 21, 2020, clashes erupted at critical locations such as the Lekki Toll Gate, Surulere, Oyingbo, Alausa, Mushin, Ikotun, Agege, and Somolu.

“The violence was not confined to Lagos alone; it spread to other states, with prison riots occurring simultaneously at Ikoyi and Kirikiri prisons. The once peaceful protests devolved into a nightmare, resulting in numerous deaths and widespread destruction.

“The chaos extended beyond Lagos, with significant damage and looting in various states. In Ondo State, the Okitipupa Oil Palm Plc was attacked, with buildings razed and offices looted, resulting in losses estimated at N300 million.

“Similarly, in Ilorin, Kwara State, the Shoprite Mall and numerous businesses were heavily looted, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Osun State experienced its own share of mayhem, with stores and farms looted and properties destroyed, amounting to losses of around N5 billion.

“These incidents underscored how quickly a movement rooted in the quest for justice was hijacked by Kanu, leading to anarchy and suffering.

“As stewards of our people’s welfare, we cannot stand idly by while calls for his release trivialize the suffering experienced by those whose livelihoods have been disrupted or destroyed. The Odua People’s Assembly believes that accountability is a cornerstone of justice. Kanu must face the consequences of his actions, as should any individual who incites violence and chaos in our society.

“The campaign for Kanu’s unconditional release is therefore a direct affront to the memories of those who have suffered due to the unrest. It disregards the struggles of countless families who have lost their homes, businesses, and loved ones as a result of the turmoil he instigated. It is insensitive to the realities of our communities, many of which are still grappling with the aftermath of violence and destruction.

”This campaign threatens to reignite tensions that we have worked hard to quell. The Southwest has always been a region known for its resilience and unity, and we must not allow divisive rhetoric to fracture our bonds.

The Assembly urged the Federal Government to remain firm and ensure that Kanu’s prosecution runs its full course, saying doing otherwise would embolden future agitators to use violence as a political tool.

“The Odua People’s Assembly categorically rejects the campaign for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu. We view it as a dangerous and irresponsible call that disregards the pain and suffering of countless individuals in the Southwest. We stand united in our commitment to justice, peace, and the restoration of our communities." They added.

The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised serious concerns over the recent meeting between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and some individuals claiming to be Adamawa ADC stakeholders, describing the gathering as illegitimate and politically motivated.

In a statement issued by Dr. Christopher Okechuk, the Director of Media and Public Affairs of the ADC, the party’s leadership expressed strong disapproval of the meeting, calling it a “sham” designed to create a false sense of legitimacy and support.

The ADC leadership maintained that the meeting neither had the backing of the party’s national structure nor represented the true interests of the ADC in Adamawa State.

Okechuk said: “The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) brings to the fore a pressing concern that warrants scrutiny. The recent meeting between Atiku and the purported Adamawa ADC stakeholders reeks of illegitimacy and raises several questions.

“A closer examination of the attendees reveals a troubling trend - many are former members of the APC and PDP who abandoned their parties due to perceived irrelevance.”

The ADC urged the public, as well as political observers, to scrutinize such developments carefully and insist on transparency and due process in all political collaborations and coalitions moving forward.

He added, “This development begs the question: what prompted these individuals to suddenly become relevant in a new political setting? Their presence at the meeting appears to be a calculated publicity stunt rather than a genuine attempt to contribute to the progress of the ADC.

“We strongly argue that this meeting was a sham, a desperate attempt to create the illusion of support and legitimacy. The purpose and outcomes of the meeting have been called into question, and it remains unclear what tangible benefits will arise from this gathering.

“The meeting between Atiku and the so-called Adamawa ADC stakeholders lacks authenticity and legitimacy. The questionable credentials of the attendees and the dubious purpose of the meeting raise serious concerns about the true intentions of the convener.

“We call on the public to scrutinize this development and insist on transparency and accountability from the coalition leaders seeking to join the ADC.”

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) on Monday announced the establishment of the Northern Nigeria Economic Development Council (NNEDC), a new coordinating body to drive industrialization, attract investment, and harmonize development policies across the northern region.

The announcement followed the successful conclusion of the Northern Nigeria Investment and Industrialization Summit (NNIIS) in Abuja, where participants pledged over $10 billion in new investments across mining, agriculture, and power.

In a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the NEF Board of Trustees, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, the Forum said the NNEDC would serve as the institutional framework for implementing a Northern Nigeria Economic Development Masterplan, focusing on security, policy coherence, and private capital as pillars for the region’s economic transformation.

The two-day summit, themed “Unlocking Strategic Opportunities in Mining, Agriculture, and Power (MAP 2025),” brought together an extensive coalition of stakeholders, including Federal Government officials, northern governors, the NNDC, private sector leaders, development partners, financiers, academics, and civil society representatives.

He said: “The summit also featured exhibitions of investment opportunities by the 19 Northern Nigerian States’ Investment Promotion Agencies and Corporate Sponsors and Deal Room/Matchmaking (B2B, B2G) sessions. Major investments across Mining, Agriculture and Power worth over $10 billion were pledged over the next 5 years."

Delegations from Turkey, India, Canada, Bangladesh, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia also attended, expressing readiness to invest billions of dollars in the region’s growth sectors.

The summit featured strategic showcases, high-level addresses, panel discussions, and masterclasses exploring sectoral strengths, challenges, and investment opportunities in mining, agriculture, and power.

Declaring the summit open, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to reviving Northern Nigeria’s economy through partnership and institutional capital mobilization.

NEF, in turn, expressed appreciation for the President’s support and pledged to ensure accountability in delivering on this national promise.

At the event, governors from the North West, North East, and North Central regions signed the Northern Nigeria Economic Development Charter, committing their states to a unified regional economic vision.

The newly created NNEDC will operate under the joint oversight of NEF and the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NNGF), coordinating the implementation of the Northern Nigeria Economic Development Masterplan (NNEDM).

A Joint Implementation and Monitoring Taskforce (JIMT) will oversee transitional actions and publish an operational roadmap within 60 days. The NNEDC will issue quarterly scorecards to track measurable outcomes such as jobs created, energy capacity added, and investments mobilized.

Also speaking, Prof. D.D. Sheni, Director-General of NEF, said the event marked “a decisive pivot from rhetoric to execution” in Northern Nigeria’s development journey.

He said: “With security as the bedrock, policy coherence as the framework, and private capital as the engine, Northern Nigeria can transform its endowments into sustainable growth.”

NEF reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive prosperity as it leads the region into a new era of coordinated economic transformation.

He added, “Significant deposits across states (e.g., gold, copper, lithium, tantalite, granite). Scope for local processing and mineral-based industrialization; regional supplier ecosystems.

“Illegal mining, environmental degradation, social conflict risks without strong ESG safeguards. Inadequate data on mineral resources. Need for credible, consistent permitting; royalties clarity; community engagement; dispute resolution; E&S compliance. Need to reform mining and mineral resource development governance.

“Nigeria’s per-capita electricity consumption is ~120 kWh vs ~1,200 kWh global average; >70% of generated power is consumed in the South, leaving the North with the highest energy poverty (<40% access in many areas).

Digitize the regional economy: expand broadband, shared data platforms, digital ID/payment rails, and digital literacy to deepen inclusion and reduce informality.

Establish a Security–Investment Coordination Taskforce linking security agencies, states, traditional/community institutions, and operators to protect corridors, energy assets, and mining sites. Adopt ESG & transparency standards (e.g., EITI-style disclosures for mining; climate and social safeguards for all major projects).

The Cross River State Chapter of the Niger Delta Progressive Youth Leadership Foundation (ND-PYLF), has called on Cross River State, Governor Bassey Otu, to stop using Okpoku Bridge in Akreha, which links to the Yache community as a tool for political advantage.

The youths said that the people of Yache deserve concrete action rather than political promises.

In a statement by the Secretary of the group, Engr. Sunday Odey Ogbudu, lamented the prolonged neglect of the bridge, which he said has left the Yache community cut off from economic opportunities, basic services, and political participation.

Ogbudu said: “The Okpoku Bridge is a critical infrastructure for our people. It should not be used as a political company or bargaining tool but rather treated as a priority project for the overall good of the community.”

He lamented that the Yache community has suffered for years due to the poor state of the bridge, which has hindered trade, mobility, and access to essential services.

He urged the governor to take immediate steps toward the rehabilitation and full utilization of the bridge, warning that continued neglect would further isolate the area and stunt development.

He added, “The Okpoku Bridge is more than just a passage; it is a lifeline for our people. It connects Yache to surrounding communities and remains key to trade, commerce, and political mobilization.

“We therefore call on His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, to consider full utilization of this bridge as a priority project. The continued neglect of the bridge could isolate communities in the region, hamper agricultural trade, and weaken political participation.”

The group further appealed to political leaders from Cross River North to rally behind the project, insisting that the welfare and development of the people should come before political interests.

The Students’ Wing of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG-SW) and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) have expressed mixed reactions to President Bola Tinubu’s recent directive making compliance with the National Policy for the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) a compulsory requirement for mobilisation into, or exemption from, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

While some student leaders hailed the initiative as a bold and necessary reform, others criticised its timing and feasibility, warning that it could become burdensome for students and institutions struggling with limited resources.

Reacting to the development, the National Coordinator of the Students’ Wing of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG-SW), Comrade Hassan Adamu, welcomed the policy, describing it as a groundbreaking step in combating academic credential fraud and promoting research integrity.

Adamu said: “It is a welcome development. The policy establishes a national, unified digital platform for managing, preserving, and verifying academic records and publications across Nigeria's tertiary institutions to combat credential fraud and promote research integrity. The mandatory requirement will help to promote compliance.”

He noted that the platform would offer significant benefits to students by providing visibility for their academic work and protecting them against intellectual property theft.

Addressing concerns about data safety, Adamu assured that the platform would be secure and user-friendly.

He added, “It is an opportunity because it will help individuals to project their work, expertise, and prevent intellectual theft such as plagiarism.

“Yes, this is the unique aspect of the policy, it rewards creativity and innovation, thereby enabling students to secure grants from within and outside the country.

“I don't think the work will be unsecured since all the work uploaded will need to be restricted. I don't think it will affect students negatively. It is simply the NERD website, and it will be user-friendly.”

However, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Comrade Alex Emmanuel, urged caution, describing the policy as a potentially transformative reform that must be carefully implemented to avoid unintended hardships.

Emmanuel said: “I think this policy has potential, especially as a reform aimed at strengthening the integrity of Nigeria’s higher education system.

The Grassroots Mobilization Initiative (GMI), has strongly criticized Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who has styled himself as the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), over his recent remarks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate.

Abdullahi had claimed that President Tinubu’s tenure would end in 2027 and that Nigerians would not wish to see it extended.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Samaila Musa, the GMI described the comments as misleading, presumptuous, and out of touch with the realities on the ground.

Musa said: “We are compelled to challenge Abdullahi’s assertions, which not only misrepresent the realities of governance under President Tinubu but also reflect a disconcerting disconnect from the sentiments of the Nigerian populace.

“Firstly, Abdullahi's claim that Nigerians would not wish to extend President Tinubu's tenure by even a single day is both presumptuous and misleading. The reality on the ground is far more nuanced than he suggests.

“While it is true that our nation faces significant challenges, including banditry, insecurity, and economic hardship, it is equally true that the current administration is actively addressing these issues.

“President Tinubu’s government has demonstrated a commitment to not only combatting the scourge of insecurity but also implementing economic reforms that are beginning to yield positive results.

“Abdullahi’s assertion that the government should prepare to vacate office in 2027, should it fail to effectively manage these challenges, is a stark oversimplification. It disregards the complexities of governance and the ongoing efforts being made to stabilize and uplift our nation."

He noted that the Tinubu government has taken decisive steps to strengthen national security and dismantle criminal networks, while also introducing economic reforms aimed at stimulating growth, creating jobs, and easing hardship.

The group maintained that Abdullahi’s remarks oversimplify governance and ignore the “palpable shift towards recovery” being witnessed across the country.

The GMI believes that this progress should be acknowledged and celebrated rather than dismissed in a bid to score political points. Abdullahi’s failure to recognize these advancements suggests a troubling detachment from the realities faced by the average Nigerian.

The Northwest Democracy Monitoring Group (NDMG), on Monday, condemned former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, accusing him of attempting to manipulate the insecurity in the region for political advantage.

The group expressed concern over the escalating insecurity in the Northwest, particularly in Zamfara and Kebbi States, warning that political opportunists were using the crisis to regain relevance.

In a statement, the NDMG Chairman, Abubakar Sani, described Malami’s recent petition as “baseless” and “a reckless attempt to incite chaos among our people.”

The group claimed that his only tangible achievement in the region was the construction of a single prison, while critical infrastructure projects like the Abuja-Kano Expressway were left to languish.

Sani said: “We unequivocally condemn Malami's recent petition, which seeks to exploit the prevailing insecurity in our communities for personal political gain. This petition is not only baseless but also represents a reckless attempt to incite chaos among our people.

“Such manipulation of a dire security situation is intolerable and warrants our utmost attention and action. In recent months, the Northwest has experienced a troubling escalation of insecurity. While this situation is undeniably grave, it has unfortunately become a fertile ground for political opportunists who seek to capitalize on the suffering of our communities.

“It is disheartening to witness individuals, including Malami, attempt to regain political relevance by preying on the vulnerabilities of our citizens. This behavior is not merely unethical; it is detrimental to the ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in regions such as Zamfara and Kebbi States.

“The NDMG acknowledges the significant challenges faced by our federal troops in combating the persistent threats posed by armed groups in the region. While there have been commendable successes in military operations, the lingering danger is compounded by the actions of desperate politicians intent on politicizing the security crisis for their own gain.

“At the forefront of this manipulation is Abubakar Malami, who seeks to present himself as a champion of the people despite a track record that reveals a stark contrast. During his tenure as Attorney General under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, Malami was entrusted with immense power and responsibilities.

“Yet, the only tangible achievement he can point to in the Northwest remains the construction of a solitary prison. The much-anticipated rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kano Expressway, a project that could have significantly benefited our region, languished in neglect throughout his eight years in office. This glaring failure raises critical questions about Malami’s motivations and his attempts to redirect public attention away from his own shortcomings.

“The recent petition submitted by Malami, which seeks to exploit the security situation, is a clear manifestation of his desperation to regain popularity and public acceptance. Such actions undermine the efforts of those genuinely working towards a resolution of the security crisis, further instilling fear and chaos among the populace. The NDMG firmly asserts that the safety and security of our communities should never be used as political pawns."

The group urged the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and the Directorate of State Services (DSS) to investigate Malami’s activities, calling for his arrest and prosecution.

He added, “It is crucial that our authorities act decisively to hold accountable those who seek to manipulate the security situation for personal gain. The arrest and prosecution of Malami would send a powerful message that the exploitation of insecurity for political purposes will not be tolerated in our society.

“Moreover, we urge all citizens to remain vigilant and discerning in the face of such political machinations. It is essential that we do not allow ourselves to be swayed by the divisive tactics employed by opportunistic politicians. Instead, we must unite in our demand for accountability, transparency, and genuine efforts to address the root causes of insecurity in our region.

“The NDMG remains steadfast in our commitment to monitoring the political landscape in the Northwest and advocating for the rights and safety of our communities. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what it described as a “premature and biased” recognition of the David Mark-led faction of the party, despite a pending court case challenging its legitimacy.

In a communiqué issued after an emergency joint meeting of the NWC and the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Saturday in Abuja, the party accused INEC of undermining its leadership structure and threatening the foundation of Nigeria’s democracy.

The ADC, led by its National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, said INEC’s decision to upload the David Mark leadership on its official portal “raises significant questions about the commission’s neutrality and credibility.”

While calling on its members to remain calm and united, the party stressed that it would not allow its platform to be hijacked by “idle politicians” seeking refuge for their ambitions.

According to the communiqué, “The ADC members convened in light of INEC’s hasty recognition and posting of the David Mark-led leadership of the party on its official portal, despite a pending legal proceeding that challenges the legitimacy of this leadership.

“This act raises significant questions about the impartiality of INEC and its commitment to uphold the democratic principles enshrined in our constitution. The ADC vehemently condemns this premature action and demands an immediate rectification, asserting that we will not stand idly by as our party’s legitimacy is undermined.

“INEC, as the custodian of our electoral integrity, is expected to maintain a neutral stance in all political matters. However, the recent actions suggest an alarming departure from this expectation. By seemingly aligning itself with individuals who have previously destabilized their own political entities, INEC risks being perceived as biased.

The party confirmed it has filed a suit at the Federal High Court against INEC and those it described as “desperate politicians,” seeking to overturn the recognition and restore the party’s mandate.

It also urged the electoral umpire to “exercise maturity and restraint” by awaiting the outcome of the case before making further pronouncements on the ADC leadership.

In response to INEC’s unjust actions, the ADC has instituted legal proceedings against the Commission and certain individuals at the Federal High Court.

The party added, “This litigation aims to challenge the legitimacy of INEC’s recent maneuvers and seeks redress for the harm inflicted upon our party. We implore INEC to exercise maturity and restraint by awaiting the outcome of this pending court case before making any further announcements regarding party leadership on its official portal.

The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), has strongly condemned the petition filed by former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, describing it as a dangerous ploy that threatens the peace and stability of Kebbi State.

This petition, submitted on September 10, 2023, is not only an attempt to deflect attention from his own culpabilities but also a dangerous maneuver that threatens the peace and stability of Kebbi State.

In a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji Bamidele, the group dismissed Malami’s claims that Governor Nasir Idris and other All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders were plotting to import thugs and illegal arms into the state.

The group called for Malami’s immediate arrest and prosecution, insisting that he must be held accountable for endangering lives and undermining democratic institutions.

Bamidele said: “Malami’s allegations that Governor Nasir Idris and other stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are involved in a conspiracy to import thugs and illegal arms into Kebbi are both false and unfounded. Such reckless claims serve no purpose other than to incite fear and unrest among the citizens of Kebbi, a state historically renowned for its tranquility and communal harmony.

“It is ironic that Malami, who has himself been embroiled in controversies and accusations of misconduct, would dare to cast aspersions on the integrity of the state government. His recent condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi, during which he allegedly facilitated the mobilization of thugs who subsequently attacked the APC State Secretariat, speaks volumes about his character and intentions.

“This unprecedented act of violence marks a significant departure from the peaceful political landscape that Kebbi has long enjoyed, and it raises serious questions about Malami's role in fostering political unrest.

“The Democracy Watch Initiative firmly asserts that Malami’s claims regarding the importation of mercenaries are not only baseless but also dangerously inflammatory. Such rhetoric has the potential to undermine the fragile peace in Kebbi, jeopardizing the economic growth and stability that the state has been striving to achieve.

“It is imperative that we recognize the gravity of Malami’s statements; they are not mere political posturing but rather a deliberate attempt to create chaos and division within the state.

“Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that Malami himself has been accused of orchestrating violence through the importation of political thugs from Sokoto and other neighboring states. The violent clashes that ensued between his supporters and APC members in Birnin Kebbi are a direct consequence of his actions.

“Instead of being a figure of justice and law, Malami has become a purveyor of lawlessness and discord. His conduct raises serious ethical concerns regarding his suitability for any public office, let alone one as significant as the Attorney General of the Federation.

“The Democracy Watch Initiative categorically rejects Malami’s attempts to portray himself as a victim of a supposed conspiracy. It is the citizens of Kebbi who are the true victims of his machinations.

“Malami has consistently enriched himself while his state has been besieged by banditry and violence, demonstrating a profound disconnect from the realities faced by the people he once claimed to represent. His actions and words reveal a man more concerned with self-preservation than with the welfare of his constituents.

“In light of these developments, we call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Abubakar Malami. It is time to hold him accountable for his actions, which have not only endangered the lives of the people of Kebbi but have also undermined the integrity of our democratic institutions. The rule of law must prevail, and those who seek to sow discord and violence must be brought to justice.”

It also urged the National Assembly and relevant security agencies to take the matter seriously and act decisively to safeguard the state.

He added, “The citizens of Kebbi deserve leaders who prioritize peace, stability, and the rule of law over personal ambition and political gamesmanship. Malami’s actions are a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the people, and it is imperative that we collectively stand against such abuses of power.

“In conclusion, the Democracy Watch Initiative stands in solidarity with the Kebbi State lawmakers and all citizens who seek justice and accountability. The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerians to show greater respect and commitment to the country’s national symbols as the nation commemorates National Ordinance Day 2025.

Speaking in Abuja, the DG reminded citizens that the National Flag, Coat of Arms, National Anthem, Pledge, Constitution, and other emblems of sovereignty represent the unity, dignity, and identity of Nigeria.

He stressed that giving proper recognition to these symbols is both a civic duty and a mark of patriotism.

Issa-Onilu said: “Respect for our national symbols is respect for Nigeria itself. Each time we hoist the flag correctly, recite the pledge sincerely, or sing the anthem with pride, we affirm our loyalty and commitment to the ideals of our nation.”

The DG, in a statement noted that September 16 is set aside annually as National Ordinance Day to commemorate the handover of Nigeria’s national symbols at independence.

He urged Nigerians to use the day as a reminder to live out the values of unity, discipline, and service embedded in the ordinances.

Issa-Onilu further encouraged schools, communities, organizations, and government institutions to consciously integrate respect for national symbols into their daily practices, saying this will help deepen national identity and strengthen social cohesion.

The NOA reaffirmed its commitment to continuous nationwide sensitization and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that every Nigerian understands and upholds the dignity of the country’s symbols.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has dismissed remarks by Bolaji Abdullahi questioning the capacity of Hon. Nafiu Bala to pursue legal action against a coalition, describing them as “unfounded and misleading.”

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher O. Okechukwu, the ADC said Abdullahi’s assertions reflected a “profound misunderstanding” of Bala’s capabilities and track record.

The ADC maintained that Bala’s history of resilience, as well as his substantial institutional backing, makes him fully capable of challenging any unjust actions.

Okechukwu said: “It has come to our attention that Bolaji Abdullahi has made several assertions regarding Hon. Nafiu Bala's capacity to pursue legal action against the coalition. We find these claims not only unfounded but also reflective of a profound misunderstanding of Hon. Nafiu Bala's exceptional capabilities and his impressive track record in defending his rights and the rights of his constituents.

The Northern Youth Frontiers has called on former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to submit himself to scrutiny over allegations of misappropriation of state funds during his tenure, insisting that accountability is non-negotiable for public officers.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Sama Musa, the group expressed concern that El-Rufai has allegedly resisted attempts to probe his administration, warning that such resistance undermines democratic governance and public accountability.

Musa said: “Public office is a sacred trust, and those who occupy such positions are duty-bound to uphold the highest standards of integrity. The citizens of Kaduna State, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve transparency and accountability from their leaders, both during and after their time in office.

“It is disheartening to witness a former governor, who once championed the ideals of good governance, evade scrutiny when called upon to account for his actions. Such behavior not only raises questions about his stewardship but also sets a dangerous precedent for future leaders.

The Northern Consumers Protection Association (NCPA) and the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative, on Thursday, applauded President Bola Tinubu for directing a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to expedite measures aimed at reducing food prices across Nigeria.

They also pledged their support for government efforts, expressing optimism that swift action would help guarantee citizens access to affordable food.

The groups, in a joint statement signed by NCPA leader, Ahmed Abubakar and GMI national, coordinator Samaila Musa, described the move as a timely and necessary intervention to tackle the rising cost of living confronting Nigerians.

The groups hailed Tinubu’s directive as a commitment to alleviating the hardship faced by Nigerians, adding that ensuring the safe passage of farm produce across transport routes, as emphasized by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, was a particularly commendable step.

According to the statement, “As a representative body of consumers in the northern region and at the grassroot, we recognize the significant burden that high food prices impose on families and individuals, particularly those in lower-income brackets.

“The rising cost of living has become a critical concern, affecting not only the purchasing power of citizens but also their overall quality of life. President Tinubu's directive to prioritize the reduction of food prices is a step in the right direction, reflecting a commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by many Nigerians.

“The focus on ensuring the safe passage of farm produce across transport routes, as highlighted by Senator Abdullahi, is particularly commendable.
