PoliticsNDMG Accuses Malami Of Exploiting Insecurity For Political Gain, Demands Probe by Orabi(op): 6:21pm On Sep 22, 2025
The Northwest Democracy Monitoring Group (NDMG), on Monday, condemned former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, accusing him of attempting to manipulate the insecurity in the region for political advantage.

The group expressed concern over the escalating insecurity in the Northwest, particularly in Zamfara and Kebbi States, warning that political opportunists were using the crisis to regain relevance.

In a statement, the NDMG Chairman, Abubakar Sani, described Malami’s recent petition as “baseless” and “a reckless attempt to incite chaos among our people.”

The group claimed that his only tangible achievement in the region was the construction of a single prison, while critical infrastructure projects like the Abuja-Kano Expressway were left to languish.

Sani said: “We unequivocally condemn Malami's recent petition, which seeks to exploit the prevailing insecurity in our communities for personal political gain. This petition is not only baseless but also represents a reckless attempt to incite chaos among our people.

“Such manipulation of a dire security situation is intolerable and warrants our utmost attention and action. In recent months, the Northwest has experienced a troubling escalation of insecurity. While this situation is undeniably grave, it has unfortunately become a fertile ground for political opportunists who seek to capitalize on the suffering of our communities.

“It is disheartening to witness individuals, including Malami, attempt to regain political relevance by preying on the vulnerabilities of our citizens. This behavior is not merely unethical; it is detrimental to the ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in regions such as Zamfara and Kebbi States.

“The NDMG acknowledges the significant challenges faced by our federal troops in combating the persistent threats posed by armed groups in the region. While there have been commendable successes in military operations, the lingering danger is compounded by the actions of desperate politicians intent on politicizing the security crisis for their own gain.

“At the forefront of this manipulation is Abubakar Malami, who seeks to present himself as a champion of the people despite a track record that reveals a stark contrast. During his tenure as Attorney General under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, Malami was entrusted with immense power and responsibilities.

“Yet, the only tangible achievement he can point to in the Northwest remains the construction of a solitary prison. The much-anticipated rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kano Expressway, a project that could have significantly benefited our region, languished in neglect throughout his eight years in office. This glaring failure raises critical questions about Malami’s motivations and his attempts to redirect public attention away from his own shortcomings.

“The recent petition submitted by Malami, which seeks to exploit the security situation, is a clear manifestation of his desperation to regain popularity and public acceptance. Such actions undermine the efforts of those genuinely working towards a resolution of the security crisis, further instilling fear and chaos among the populace. The NDMG firmly asserts that the safety and security of our communities should never be used as political pawns."

The group urged the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and the Directorate of State Services (DSS) to investigate Malami’s activities, calling for his arrest and prosecution.

He added, “It is crucial that our authorities act decisively to hold accountable those who seek to manipulate the security situation for personal gain. The arrest and prosecution of Malami would send a powerful message that the exploitation of insecurity for political purposes will not be tolerated in our society.

“Moreover, we urge all citizens to remain vigilant and discerning in the face of such political machinations. It is essential that we do not allow ourselves to be swayed by the divisive tactics employed by opportunistic politicians. Instead, we must unite in our demand for accountability, transparency, and genuine efforts to address the root causes of insecurity in our region.

“The NDMG remains steadfast in our commitment to monitoring the political landscape in the Northwest and advocating for the rights and safety of our communities. We will continue to work diligently towards fostering an environment where democracy flourishes, and the voices of the people are heard and respected.

“It is our fervent hope that the authorities will take the necessary steps to uphold the integrity of our security apparatus and ensure that those who seek to undermine it for personal gain are brought to justice.

“We reiterate our condemnation of Abubakar Malami’s actions and call for a swift and thorough investigation into his activities. The Northwest deserves leaders who prioritize the well-being of their constituents over personal ambition, and we will not rest until those who threaten our peace and security are held accountable.”
PoliticsADC-NWC Faults INEC Over Recognition Of David Mark-led Leadership, Heads To Cour by Orabi(op): 1:51pm On Sep 21, 2025
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what it described as a “premature and biased” recognition of the David Mark-led faction of the party, despite a pending court case challenging its legitimacy.

In a communiqué issued after an emergency joint meeting of the NWC and the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Saturday in Abuja, the party accused INEC of undermining its leadership structure and threatening the foundation of Nigeria’s democracy.

The ADC, led by its National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, said INEC’s decision to upload the David Mark leadership on its official portal “raises significant questions about the commission’s neutrality and credibility.”

While calling on its members to remain calm and united, the party stressed that it would not allow its platform to be hijacked by “idle politicians” seeking refuge for their ambitions.

According to the communiqué, “The ADC members convened in light of INEC’s hasty recognition and posting of the David Mark-led leadership of the party on its official portal, despite a pending legal proceeding that challenges the legitimacy of this leadership.

“This act raises significant questions about the impartiality of INEC and its commitment to uphold the democratic principles enshrined in our constitution. The ADC vehemently condemns this premature action and demands an immediate rectification, asserting that we will not stand idly by as our party’s legitimacy is undermined.

“INEC, as the custodian of our electoral integrity, is expected to maintain a neutral stance in all political matters. However, the recent actions suggest an alarming departure from this expectation. By seemingly aligning itself with individuals who have previously destabilized their own political entities, INEC risks being perceived as biased.

“The ADC recognizes that these individuals, in their desperate quest for power, have resorted to manipulative tactics, seeking to exploit our party for personal gain. This behavior not only undermines the democratic process but also poses a significant threat to the stability of our nation.

“Historical Precedents of Division
The tactics employed by these opportunistic politicians are not new; they echo the divisive strategies witnessed during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

“By exploiting regional sentiments and fostering discord, they have inflicted severe damage on Nigeria’s political landscape. The repercussions of their actions are profound, leading to a stagnation of progress that has set our nation back by decades.”

According to the ADC, such divisions and opportunism have contributed to Nigeria’s current economic downturn, insecurity, and entrenched corruption, which continue to erode public trust in governance.

The party confirmed it has filed a suit at the Federal High Court against INEC and those it described as “desperate politicians,” seeking to overturn the recognition and restore the party’s mandate.

It also urged the electoral umpire to “exercise maturity and restraint” by awaiting the outcome of the case before making further pronouncements on the ADC leadership.

In response to INEC’s unjust actions, the ADC has instituted legal proceedings against the Commission and certain individuals at the Federal High Court.

The party added, “This litigation aims to challenge the legitimacy of INEC’s recent maneuvers and seeks redress for the harm inflicted upon our party. We implore INEC to exercise maturity and restraint by awaiting the outcome of this pending court case before making any further announcements regarding party leadership on its official portal.

“The ADC prioritizes peace and stability within its ranks and is committed to avoiding any actions that could lead to confusion or unrest among our members. We are a well-structured party, grounded in defined principles and values.

“We will not serve as a refuge for idle politicians who seek to exploit our platform for personal ambitions. The integrity of the ADC is non-negotiable, and we will steadfastly protect our mandate.

“To our esteemed members, we urge you to remain calm, united, and resolute in the face of these challenges. Together, we will safeguard our party’s integrity, and no external force will undermine our collective efforts. Our unity is our strength, and it is through our solidarity that we will overcome any obstacles that lie ahead.

“In closing, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to every member of the African Democratic Congress. Your unwavering commitment and dedication to our cause have been invaluable in these trying times. Together, we will navigate the complexities of our political landscape and emerge stronger for it. May God’s blessings be upon you all as we continue this journey together.”

“It is important to recognize that this success story is not solely the result of governmental initiatives. It is a collective effort that involves the unwavering dedication of teachers, the support of parents, and the hard work of school administrators.

“Our teachers have gone above and beyond to inspire and guide their students, often working late hours to ensure that no child is left behind. The support from parents has been equally commendable, as they have invested their time and resources to create a conducive environment for learning at home.

“The collaborative efforts of school administrators have also played a crucial role in fostering an atmosphere of excellence and accountability within our schools.”

Musa further emphasized that the achievement is not solely due to government efforts but also a product of collaboration across all stakeholders in the education sector.

PoliticsDemocracy Watch Initiative Condemns Malami’s Baseless Allegations Against Kebbi by Orabi(op): 3:59pm On Sep 19, 2025
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), has strongly condemned the petition filed by former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, describing it as a dangerous ploy that threatens the peace and stability of Kebbi State.

This petition, submitted on September 10, 2023, is not only an attempt to deflect attention from his own culpabilities but also a dangerous maneuver that threatens the peace and stability of Kebbi State.

In a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji Bamidele, the group dismissed Malami’s claims that Governor Nasir Idris and other All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders were plotting to import thugs and illegal arms into the state.

The group called for Malami’s immediate arrest and prosecution, insisting that he must be held accountable for endangering lives and undermining democratic institutions.

Bamidele said: “Malami’s allegations that Governor Nasir Idris and other stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are involved in a conspiracy to import thugs and illegal arms into Kebbi are both false and unfounded. Such reckless claims serve no purpose other than to incite fear and unrest among the citizens of Kebbi, a state historically renowned for its tranquility and communal harmony.

“It is ironic that Malami, who has himself been embroiled in controversies and accusations of misconduct, would dare to cast aspersions on the integrity of the state government. His recent condolence visit to Birnin Kebbi, during which he allegedly facilitated the mobilization of thugs who subsequently attacked the APC State Secretariat, speaks volumes about his character and intentions.

“This unprecedented act of violence marks a significant departure from the peaceful political landscape that Kebbi has long enjoyed, and it raises serious questions about Malami's role in fostering political unrest.

“The Democracy Watch Initiative firmly asserts that Malami’s claims regarding the importation of mercenaries are not only baseless but also dangerously inflammatory. Such rhetoric has the potential to undermine the fragile peace in Kebbi, jeopardizing the economic growth and stability that the state has been striving to achieve.

“It is imperative that we recognize the gravity of Malami’s statements; they are not mere political posturing but rather a deliberate attempt to create chaos and division within the state.

“Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that Malami himself has been accused of orchestrating violence through the importation of political thugs from Sokoto and other neighboring states. The violent clashes that ensued between his supporters and APC members in Birnin Kebbi are a direct consequence of his actions.

“Instead of being a figure of justice and law, Malami has become a purveyor of lawlessness and discord. His conduct raises serious ethical concerns regarding his suitability for any public office, let alone one as significant as the Attorney General of the Federation.

“The Democracy Watch Initiative categorically rejects Malami’s attempts to portray himself as a victim of a supposed conspiracy. It is the citizens of Kebbi who are the true victims of his machinations.

“Malami has consistently enriched himself while his state has been besieged by banditry and violence, demonstrating a profound disconnect from the realities faced by the people he once claimed to represent. His actions and words reveal a man more concerned with self-preservation than with the welfare of his constituents.

“In light of these developments, we call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Abubakar Malami. It is time to hold him accountable for his actions, which have not only endangered the lives of the people of Kebbi but have also undermined the integrity of our democratic institutions. The rule of law must prevail, and those who seek to sow discord and violence must be brought to justice.”

It also urged the National Assembly and relevant security agencies to take the matter seriously and act decisively to safeguard the state.

He added, “The citizens of Kebbi deserve leaders who prioritize peace, stability, and the rule of law over personal ambition and political gamesmanship. Malami’s actions are a betrayal of the trust placed in him by the people, and it is imperative that we collectively stand against such abuses of power.

“In conclusion, the Democracy Watch Initiative stands in solidarity with the Kebbi State lawmakers and all citizens who seek justice and accountability. We will continue to advocate for a political environment that is free from violence and intimidation, where the voices of the people are heard and respected. It is time for Abubakar Malami to face the consequences of his actions, and we will not rest until justice is served.”
PoliticsNational Ordinance Day: NOA DG Charges Nigerians To Honour National Symbols by Orabi(op): 4:28pm On Sep 16, 2025
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerians to show greater respect and commitment to the country’s national symbols as the nation commemorates National Ordinance Day 2025.

Speaking in Abuja, the DG reminded citizens that the National Flag, Coat of Arms, National Anthem, Pledge, Constitution, and other emblems of sovereignty represent the unity, dignity, and identity of Nigeria.

He stressed that giving proper recognition to these symbols is both a civic duty and a mark of patriotism.

Issa-Onilu said: “Respect for our national symbols is respect for Nigeria itself. Each time we hoist the flag correctly, recite the pledge sincerely, or sing the anthem with pride, we affirm our loyalty and commitment to the ideals of our nation.”

The DG, in a statement noted that September 16 is set aside annually as National Ordinance Day to commemorate the handover of Nigeria’s national symbols at independence.

He urged Nigerians to use the day as a reminder to live out the values of unity, discipline, and service embedded in the ordinances.

Issa-Onilu further encouraged schools, communities, organizations, and government institutions to consciously integrate respect for national symbols into their daily practices, saying this will help deepen national identity and strengthen social cohesion.

PoliticsADC Defends Nafiu Bala, Faults Bolaji Abdullahi’s Claims by Orabi(op): 6:33pm On Sep 13, 2025
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has dismissed remarks by Bolaji Abdullahi questioning the capacity of Hon. Nafiu Bala to pursue legal action against a coalition, describing them as “unfounded and misleading.”

In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher O. Okechukwu, the ADC said Abdullahi’s assertions reflected a “profound misunderstanding” of Bala’s capabilities and track record.

The ADC maintained that Bala’s history of resilience, as well as his substantial institutional backing, makes him fully capable of challenging any unjust actions.

Okechukwu said: “It has come to our attention that Bolaji Abdullahi has made several assertions regarding Hon. Nafiu Bala's capacity to pursue legal action against the coalition. We find these claims not only unfounded but also reflective of a profound misunderstanding of Hon. Nafiu Bala's exceptional capabilities and his impressive track record in defending his rights and the rights of his constituents.

“Hon. Nafiu Bala is a distinguished member of our party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and his commitment to justice and the rule of law is well-documented. Most notably, during the 2023 election cycle, he demonstrated an unwavering resolve in defending his constitutional rights.

“His tenacity led him to pursue his case all the way to the Supreme Court, a testament to his determination and resilience. This journey was not merely a legal formality; it was a demonstration of his steadfast commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that the voices of his constituents are heard and respected.

“In light of these facts, we find it imperative to urge Bolaji Abdullahi and his cohorts to reassess their strategy. It is unwise to underestimate Hon. Nafiu Bala's resolve or to assume that he lacks the resources necessary to vigorously pursue this case.

“His history of resilience and determination is a clear indicator that he will not allow unjust actions to go unchallenged. The assertion that he lacks the capacity to take legal action is not only misleading but also diminishes the hard-fought rights that he and many others have worked tirelessly to secure.

“Moreover, Hon. Nafiu Bala enjoys substantial institutional backing, which further bolsters his position. The African Democratic Congress stands firmly behind him, committed to supporting his endeavors in seeking justice and accountability. The collective strength of our party, combined with Hon. Nafiu’s personal resolve, creates a formidable force that should not be taken lightly.

“We must also consider the broader implications of underestimating a public figure like Hon. Nafiu Bala. Such miscalculations can lead to a dangerous precedent where the rights of citizens and their representatives are disregarded.

“In a democratic society, it is essential to respect the constitutional rights afforded to all individuals, regardless of political affiliation. By dismissing Hon. Nafiu Bala's capabilities, Bolaji Abdullahi and his group risk undermining the very fabric of our democracy."

The party further warned that disregarding Bala’s constitutional rights could set a dangerous precedent, undermining democracy and the rights of citizens.

He added, “As we move forward, we call on all political actors to engage in constructive dialogue and to approach their responsibilities with the seriousness they deserve. The political landscape is fraught with challenges, and it is incumbent upon us to navigate these challenges with integrity and respect for one another.

“We believe that a healthy democracy thrives on mutual respect and understanding, rather than disparagement and underestimation. We reiterate our confidence in Hon. Nafiu Bala’s abilities and commitment to justice. His track record speaks for itself, and we stand united in our support for his pursuit of legal action against any unjust actions that threaten his rights and the rights of his constituents.

“We encourage Bolaji Abdullahi and his associates to reconsider their approach, to respect Hon. Nafiu Bala’s constitutional rights, and to engage in a political discourse that uplifts rather than undermines the democratic principles we all hold dear.”
PoliticsNorthern Youth Frontiers Tackles El-rufai, Says He Must Face Probe by Orabi(op): 4:51pm On Sep 13, 2025
The Northern Youth Frontiers has called on former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to submit himself to scrutiny over allegations of misappropriation of state funds during his tenure, insisting that accountability is non-negotiable for public officers.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Sama Musa, the group expressed concern that El-Rufai has allegedly resisted attempts to probe his administration, warning that such resistance undermines democratic governance and public accountability.

Musa said: “Public office is a sacred trust, and those who occupy such positions are duty-bound to uphold the highest standards of integrity. The citizens of Kaduna State, and indeed all Nigerians, deserve transparency and accountability from their leaders, both during and after their time in office.

“It is disheartening to witness a former governor, who once championed the ideals of good governance, evade scrutiny when called upon to account for his actions. Such behavior not only raises questions about his stewardship but also sets a dangerous precedent for future leaders.

“We assert that accountability is not an act of betrayal; rather, it is a fundamental duty of every leader. When a former governor or president is summoned to provide an account of his administration, taking offense at such a call is unjust and unbecoming of a public servant.

“Leaders must remember that they are answerable to the people they serve, and the expectation for accountability should not be viewed as an affront but as a necessary aspect of governance.

“During his tenure, Mr. El-Rufai made several controversial statements and decisions that have come under scrutiny. Notably, he boasted that his private security network was larger than the police force, raising significant concerns about the role of state resources and the implications for public safety.

“Furthermore, his admission regarding the payment of ransoms and supplies to bandits is particularly alarming. Such actions not only compromise the security of our communities but also send a troubling message about the state’s approach to law and order."

Citing some of El-Rufai’s controversial remarks and decisions while in office, the group pointed to his claim that his private security network was larger than the police force, which they said raised concerns about the misuse of state resources.

The group also condemned his admission that ransoms and supplies were provided to bandits, describing the act as alarming and damaging to national security.

He added, “The consequences of his governance choices cannot be swept under the rug; they will demand accountability. We urge him to embrace the opportunity to clarify his actions and decisions, as failing to do so only perpetuates a culture of impunity that has plagued our political landscape for far too long.

“We call upon Mr. El-Rufai to demonstrate leadership by willingly participating in any legitimate inquiries regarding his administration. It is crucial for him to recognize that accountability is not merely a personal obligation but a societal necessity.

“By engaging with the scrutiny, he can help restore faith in our political institutions and contribute to a culture of transparency that is vital for the progress of Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole. We, the Northern Youth Frontiers, stand firm in our commitment to promoting accountability and transparency in governance.

“We implore all leaders, past and present, to embrace their responsibility to the public and to recognize that true leadership is characterized by humility and a willingness to be held accountable.

“We will continue to advocate for the rights of the youth and the people of Northern Nigeria, ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed. The time for accountability is now, and we call upon Mr. El-Rufai rose to the occasion."
BusinessNCPA, Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative Hails Tinubu’s Directive To Reduce Food by Orabi(op): 5:21pm On Sep 11, 2025
The Northern Consumers Protection Association (NCPA) and the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative, on Thursday, applauded President Bola Tinubu for directing a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to expedite measures aimed at reducing food prices across Nigeria.

They also pledged their support for government efforts, expressing optimism that swift action would help guarantee citizens access to affordable food.

The groups, in a joint statement signed by NCPA leader, Ahmed Abubakar and GMI national, coordinator Samaila Musa, described the move as a timely and necessary intervention to tackle the rising cost of living confronting Nigerians.

The groups hailed Tinubu’s directive as a commitment to alleviating the hardship faced by Nigerians, adding that ensuring the safe passage of farm produce across transport routes, as emphasized by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, was a particularly commendable step.

According to the statement, “As a representative body of consumers in the northern region and at the grassroot, we recognize the significant burden that high food prices impose on families and individuals, particularly those in lower-income brackets.

“The rising cost of living has become a critical concern, affecting not only the purchasing power of citizens but also their overall quality of life. President Tinubu's directive to prioritize the reduction of food prices is a step in the right direction, reflecting a commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by many Nigerians.

“The focus on ensuring the safe passage of farm produce across transport routes, as highlighted by Senator Abdullahi, is particularly commendable. By addressing the logistical challenges that contribute to inflated food prices, the committee can help streamline the supply chain, ultimately leading to lower costs for consumers.

“It is essential that this committee acts with urgency and diligence, implementing the necessary measures to facilitate the efficient movement of agricultural goods from farms to markets.

“In light of this directive, we call upon the Federal Executive Council committee to ensure swift and successful adherence to the President’s directives. It is crucial that the committee engages with all stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including producers, marketers, and transporters, to foster a collaborative environment that prioritizes the reduction of food prices.

“The cooperation of these key players will be vital in overcoming the logistical hurdles that have historically impeded the flow of agricultural products across the country.”

The groups further urged the committee to explore innovative solutions to enhance food distribution. These, they said, could include investment in infrastructure, leveraging technology for supply chain management, and fostering partnerships to ease the movement of agricultural goods from farms to markets.

They reaffirmed their readiness to support the government’s efforts, pledging to advocate for consumer interests and work toward a more equitable and sustainable food system.

“In conclusion, we applaud President Bola Tinubu for his proactive stance on this critical issue and urge the Federal Executive Council committee to act swiftly and effectively. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter future where every Nigerian can enjoy the fundamental right to food without the strain of exorbitant prices,” the statement added.

The ADC emphasized that its doors remain open to all Nigerians who share its vision, stressing that collective effort was crucial in driving lasting political and economic transformation in the country.
PoliticsAugust Operations: Army, Police, EFCC, NDLEA Record Major Gains — NOA by Orabi(op): 8:56pm On Sep 08, 2025
The National Orientation Agency (NOA), has announced significant achievements by security agencies in August, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Army, Police, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to the NOA, these agencies recorded major gains in their operations, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of citizens.

The Director-General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, disclosed this in Abuja, at the monthly joint security briefing in Abuja, describing the results as “evidence of stronger inter-agency coordination and intelligence-led actions”.

According to him, the Nigerian Army executed 261 operations, neutralised 30 terrorists in Zamfara, rescued passengers from an ISWAP ambush in Borno, and secured the surrender of 76 militants, including women and children.

He said: “Nigeria's security and regulatory agencies sustained a high operational tempo in August 2025: the Army executed 261 operations: Police made 1,950 arrests and rescued 141 victims.

“NDLEA seized 66,255.81 kg of narcotics and deployed 48 new vehicles to the field; EFCC secured 588 convictions with over N21.06bn recovered;

“NAFDAC seized 17 containers of falsified/unsafe goods; and Immigration
strengthened border controls with 10,803 visas approved, targeted denials, and
trafficking victim interceptions were also recorded, further details are contained in
the full report which is being made available to you.

“These results reflect positive outcomes from tighter inter-agency coordination, stronger intelligence-led actions, and expanded public-facing communication to counter misinformation in line with Presidential directives in ongoing efforts to keep our country safe.”

Issa-Onilu noted that intelligence-sharing and public cooperation remain vital in disrupting criminal networks. He urged Nigerians to report suspicious movements and avoid spreading unverified alerts that create panic.

He also announced that its offices across the 36 states and 774 local governments have been activated to intensify grassroots engagement through town halls, rallies, and advocacy campaigns.

While acknowledging challenges such as troop casualties, vandalism, and communal clashes, Issa-Onilu maintained that operational capacity has improved.

He added, “The message is clear: when intelligence meets joint action, kidnappers, gunrunners, and traffickers fail.

“Every seized drug container is a community saved from harm. Every conviction is a signal that corruption will not be tolerated. And every victim rescued is a life put back on track.”

The agency said its priority was to counter misinformation and keep citizens informed about security gains.

He acknowledged that challenges remain, including troop casualties, vandalism, and communal clashes in some states. But they insisted that operational capacity has improved and that the state’s response is becoming more pre-emptive.
PoliticsEl-rufai: Rejected Everywhere by Orabi(op): 6:11pm On Sep 08, 2025
By Abdul-Azeez Suleiman

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State's recent attempts to engage with the populace in various regions of the country, particularly in the southeastern state of Imo, have been met with vehement opposition.

The protests that erupted at Assumpta Cathedral in Owerri on a Saturday morning serve as a reminder of the deep-seated sentiments that persist in the hearts of many Nigerians, particularly in the wake of perceived injustices and divisive rhetoric. The rejection of El-Rufai in Imo State is not merely a reflection of his individual political persona; it encapsulates broader themes of regional identity, historical grievances, and the ongoing struggle for unity in a nation marked by diversity.

The backdrop of El-Rufai's visit to Imo State was ostensibly benign, framed as an opportunity to deliver the 2025 Odenigbo Lecture—a platform intended to foster dialogue on governance and economic development. However, the atmosphere was anything but welcoming. As the former governor arrived, a crowd of protesters gathered outside the cathedral, brandishing placards emblazoned with messages of disapproval. Their chants echoed through the streets of Owerri, articulating a collective rejection of El-Rufai’s presence. This scene was not simply a spontaneous outburst of discontent; it was a manifestation of years of accumulated frustration and resentment towards a political figure perceived as emblematic of broader systemic issues.

The protesters' grievances were articulated by a leader whose identity remained anonymous, yet whose words resonated with the crowd.

They accused El-Rufai of perpetuating anti-Igbo rhetoric in the past, a charge that underscores the historical tensions that have often characterized the relationship between the northern and southeastern regions of Nigeria. The echoes of the Nigerian Civil War, which left deep scars on the collective psyche of the Igbo people, still reverberate today. For many in the southeast, figures like El-Rufai represent a legacy of marginalization and exclusion, a reminder of the fragility of national unity in a country still grappling with its colonial past and the lingering effects of ethnic divisions.

The significance of the protests extends beyond the immediate rejection of El-Rufai. They reflect a broader sentiment among many Nigerians who feel disillusioned by a political class that often seems disconnected from the realities of everyday life. The protestors’ call to “caution Mr. Peter Obi,” a prominent political figure in the region, highlights the complex interplay of regional loyalties and political alliances. Obi, who has garnered significant support in the southeast, is seen by some as a potential bridge between the aspirations of the Igbo people and the broader Nigerian polity. However, the protesters’ discontent suggests that even those who are perceived as allies can be held accountable for their associations and
decisions.

The rejection of El-Rufai also raises questions about the nature of political discourse in Nigeria. In a country where political affiliations are often deeply intertwined with ethnic identities, the ability of leaders to transcend these divisions is crucial for fostering a sense of national cohesion. El-Rufai’s past statements and actions have, in the eyes of many, reinforced existing divides rather than bridging them. This is particularly poignant in a period where Nigeria faces numerous challenges, including economic instability, insecurity, and widespread corruption. The need for leaders who can unite rather than polarize is more pressing than ever.

Moreover, the protests at Assumpta Cathedral serve as a reminder of the power of civil society in shaping political narratives. In an age where social media amplifies voices that might otherwise be marginalized, the rapid dissemination of video footage capturing the protests underscores the importance of public sentiment in the political arena.

The viral nature of the protests not only reflects the immediacy of the anger felt by many but also highlights the potential for collective action in influencing political discourse. It is a testament to the idea that the voices of the people, when united, can challenge even the most entrenched political figures.

As El-Rufai navigates the complex landscape of Nigerian politics, his experiences in Imo State may serve as a cautionary tale for leaders seeking to engage with diverse constituencies. The rejection he faced is emblematic of a broader struggle for legitimacy, particularly in regions that have historically felt marginalized or overlooked. Moving forward, it will be imperative for political leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue, acknowledge historical grievances, and work towards fostering an inclusive narrative that resonates with all Nigerians.

The protests against Nasir El-Rufai in Owerri are not merely a rejection of one individual; they symbolize a profound yearning for recognition, respect, and inclusivity within the Nigerian political sphere. As the nation grapples with its multifaceted identity, the voices of the people must be heard and heeded.

The lessons learned from this episode extend beyond the immediate context, serving as a reminder of the need for empathy, understanding, and a commitment to building a more united Nigeria. In a country rich with diversity, the path to unity lies not in the erasure of differences but in the celebration of them, fostering a political environment where every voice is valued and every identity respected.
PoliticsDemocracy Watch Initiative Demands Probe Of Human Rights Abuses Under El-rufai’s by Orabi(op): 1:14pm On Sep 07, 2025
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to investigate and prosecute those responsible for alleged human rights violations during the tenure of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, between 2015 and 2023.

In a statement by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji Bamidele, the group said El-Rufai’s administration was marked by violence, oppression, and disregard for civil liberties, despite efforts at infrastructural reforms.

Among the incidents highlighted were the Zaria Shiite massacre, the Kajuru massacre, and the demolition of properties belonging to political opponents, which DWI described as evidence of a governance style that “prioritized power over fundamental rights.”

Bamidele said: “In light of the alarming human rights violations committed during the tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, we hereby call upon the Federal Government of Nigeria to take decisive action in arresting and prosecuting those responsible for these atrocities.

“We also urge international human rights organizations to lend their voices and support in holding accountable those who have perpetuated violence and repression against the citizens of Kaduna State.

“El-Rufai's administration has been marred by a troubling legacy of violence, oppression, and a blatant disregard for civil liberties. While the former governor attempted to implement infrastructural and governance reforms, his tenure was overshadowed by a series of egregious human rights violations that cannot be overlooked.

“The Zaria Shiite massacre, the Kajuru massacre, and the systematic demolition of properties belonging to political opponents are just a few examples of the alarming pattern of governance that prioritized power over the protection of fundamental rights.

“The Kajuru massacre of 2019 remains a harrowing reminder of the ethnic and religious tensions that escalated under El-Rufai's leadership. The loss of innocent lives during this tragic event exemplified the administration's failure to address the root causes of conflict and its subsequent indifference to the suffering of marginalized communities.

“Rather than fostering an environment of reconciliation and peace, El-Rufai's government exacerbated divisions, contributing to a cycle of violence that continues to plague the region.”

The group accused the former governor of eroding judicial authority, citing the case of Kasuwan Barci traders whose demolished businesses led to protests, as well as the arrest of journalist Jacob Onjewu for allegedly inciting violence.

He added, “El-Rufai's administration displayed an alarming intolerance for dissent and civil liberties. The incarceration of journalists, the suppression of protests, and the harassment of opposition figures were hallmarks of a regime that sought to stifle free expression.

“The abduction of Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata, serves as a poignant symbol of the oppressive climate that characterized El-Rufai's rule, instilling fear in the hearts of citizens and deterring them from exercising their fundamental rights.

“The erosion of judicial authority during El-Rufai's tenure further exemplifies the administration's hostility towards dissent. Incidents such as the protest by Kasuwan Barci traders demanding compensation for their demolished businesses, coupled with the arrest of journalist Jacob Onjewu for allegedly inciting violence, reflect a persistent pattern of resistance to judicial decisions.

“This environment of censorship and intimidation not only undermines the rule of law but also threatens the very fabric of democracy in Nigeria. As the Nigerian electorate prepares for future elections, it is imperative to remain vigilant against the desperate antics, lies, and deceit of leaders like Nasir El-Rufai.

“His tenure serves as a cautionary tale, reminding us of the dangers inherent in prioritizing power over the principles of justice and equity. We must not allow ourselves to be swayed by empty promises or the allure of ambitious reforms that mask a disregard for human rights.”

The Democracy Watch Initiative urged both the Federal Government and international human rights organizations to ensure accountability and justice for victims, warning Nigerians to remain vigilant as the country heads into future elections.

“The protection of human rights must be at the forefront of Nigeria's governance agenda, ensuring that the lessons of the past are not forgotten. The legacy of Nasir El-Rufai's governance in Kaduna State serves as a stark reminder of the importance of balancing reform with respect for human rights.

“The challenges and controversies that marked his tenure illuminate the dangers of allowing power to supersede the principles of justice and equity. As Nigeria navigates its path towards sustainable governance, we must collectively commit to upholding the rights of all citizens, ensuring that the mistakes of the past inform a more just and equitable future.”
PoliticsADC Cautions Nigerians Against Unauthorized Party Rallies by Orabi(op): 4:18pm On Sep 05, 2025
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has cautioned Nigerians against attending unauthorized rallies allegedly being organized by unregistered and self-proclaimed individuals claiming affiliation with the party.

In a letter obtained by journalists on Friday, the National Chairman of the ADC, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, warned that such activities pose security risks, create public confusion, and undermine the integrity of the party.

He emphasized that any event not sanctioned by the legitimate leadership would be considered illegitimate and not recognized by the party.

According to the letter: “The National Body of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) issues this formal notice to alert the public to potential security risks posed by unauthorized party rallies being organized by unregistered and self-proclaimed individuals claiming affiliation with the party.

“To maintain public safety, prevent confusion, and uphold the party's integrity, the ADC issues the following directives: All party activities, including rallies, meetings, and events, require prior approval from the authentic party leadership under the stewardship of Hon. Nafiu Bala, the National Chairman of the ADC.

“Any party activities that do not
comply with these directives may be considered illegitimate and not
recognized by the party. Warning Against Unauthorized Participation: Members and the public are advised to exercise caution and refrain from participating in unauthorized ADC events, as these may compromise security and undermine the party's credibility.

“The ADC leadership urges members and the public to verify the legitimacy of any
party events through official party channels to avoid participating in unauthorized gatherings that may compromise security. This measure is indispensable to maintaining the party's integrity and ensuring public safety.”
PoliticsNOA Congratulates Muslims On Eid-ul-maulud, Calls For Unity by Orabi(op): 10:57am On Sep 05, 2025
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has extended warm greetings to the Muslim faithful across the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Maulud, while calling on all Nigerians to uphold the rule of law and unify for peace and development of the country.

On the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, urges Muslims to embrace forgiveness and draw closer to the noble life and teachings of the Prophet, which remain a guide for peaceful and upright living.

Issa-Onilu adds that unity among Nigerians remains a vital weapon in the fight against insecurity, stressing that when citizens stand together and actively support security efforts, the nation is better positioned to overcome violence, restore peace, and build lasting stability.

In a statement, the agency’s Director of Communication and Media, Bala Musa, described Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as an embodiment of unity, peace, and compassion.

He urged Muslim faithful to draw lessons from his teachings and traditions by fostering tolerance and promoting national unity.

He prays for peace, unity, and progress across Nigeria, asking for wisdom and strength to guide President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he works to lead the nation toward growth and development.
PoliticsNorthern Youths Frontiers Condemns El-rufai’s ‘reckless’ Remarks On National Sec by Orabi(op): 4:11pm On Sep 04, 2025
The Northern Youths Frontiers (NYF), has strongly condemned what it described as the reckless and irresponsible remarks made by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, during his recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

The group further warned that such “unguarded rhetoric” could weaken public confidence, embolden criminals, and trivialize the suffering of victims of insecurity.

In a statement issued by its North West Zonal Coordinator, Saminu Tukur, the group accused El-Rufai of attempting to smear the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and belittle the sacrifices of Nigeria’s security forces.

Said: “The NYF views it as shameful that a man who had eight years steering the affairs of Kaduna, yet left behind a legacy riddled with insecurity, hardship, and division, now seeks to present himself as a saint by mocking the current efforts to restore peace. El-Rufai’s unguarded comments are a slap in the face to the gallant men and women of our armed forces who risk their lives daily to tackle insecurity across the North.

“We find these comments deeply insensitive and unbecoming of a supposedly statesman who once held the mantle of leadership in one of the affected states. At a time when security forces are making sacrifices including paying the supreme price in the line of duty, it is utterly disheartening to make such statements that belittle their efforts.

“El-Rufai’s gimmick to score political points aimed to undermine the credibility of ongoing counter-terrorism operations, ridicule the sacrifices, and sow seeds of doubt in the minds of Nigerians remains totally reprehensible.

“Kaduna, under him, witnessed years of bloodshed, banditry, and unprecedented insecurity, which he failed to curtail, while his successor, Governor Uba Sani, is already achieving what he could not by bringing peace, stability, and governance with a human face. Rather than supporting ongoing efforts, El-Rufai has chosen to sow discord and ridicule efforts that aim to save lives, reintegrate communities, and dismantle criminal structures.

“The NYF considers his remarks as nothing but cheap politics and a desperate attempt to remain relevant. It is unbecoming of a former governor to deride sensitive national security operations with careless statements to weaken public confidence, embolden criminals, and trivialize the suffering of victims of banditry and terrorism.”

NYF called on Nigerians, especially youths in the North, to reject what it described as El-Rufai’s “divisive antics,” urging him to retract his statements and desist from politicizing security matters.

He added, “The NYF rejects El-Rufai’s attempt to skewer security policies that are rooted in global best practices in counter-insurgency and call on him to immediately retract his unfortunate statements and desist from politicizing security matters.

“We appeal to all political leaders to exercise caution in public commentary on sensitive national issues. We reaffirm our confidence in the Armed Forces, and other security agencies working tirelessly to keep Nigeria safe, secure, and stable.

“The NYF stands firmly with Nigeria’s security architecture for their sacrifice, blood and sweat to protect Nigerians. We will not allow politicians like El-Rufai to derail the hard-earned progress being made in restoring peace and hope to our people.

“We also remind all that our security challenges demand collective responsibility, not reckless rhetoric, as our troops combat valiantly to restore peace, stability and tranquillity to our dear nation.”
PoliticsNEF Demands State Of Emergency In Northern Nigeria Over Worsening Insecurity by Orabi(op): 11:46am On Sep 03, 2025
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in northern Nigeria, citing the extraordinary scale of insecurity and the government’s constitutional and international obligations to protect lives.

The forum lamented that state security agencies remain overstretched, under-resourced, and in some cases complicit through inaction, leaving citizens vulnerable while eroding public trust in government.

In a communiqué signed on Wednesday, by its spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, the forum expressed grave concern over the spate of violent attacks, abductions and killings across the region, warning that continued inaction could threaten Nigeria’s stability and regional peace.

The NEF recalled the August 19 attack on a mosque in Unguwan Mantau Village, where armed assailants killed at least 27 worshippers during early morning prayers, leaving several injured and displacing hundreds

It also condemned the execution of 35 abductees in Zamfara State despite ransom payments, as well as two separate attacks in Kaduna State’s Kauru and Kudan LGAs, which left eight dead and eight others severely injured.

Jiddere said: “These incidents are not isolated cases, rather they are part of a persistent pattern of organized criminal violence and banditry that have claimed thousands of lives, displaced hundreds of thousands of citizens, undermined food security, economic cripple activity, and
Inflicted deep psychological and social trauma on individuals and several communities.

“The NEF observes with deep regret that the state security architecture remains inadequate, overstretched, and in some cases complicit through inaction and silence, leaving citizens vulnerable and helpless while eroding public trust in government institutions.”

Citing the 1999 Constitution, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, he said: “Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), states that, the inherent right to life shall be protected by law, and no one shall arbitrarily be deprived of life.

“The recurring atrocities in Northern Nigeria constitute serious breaches of these obligations, and in their scale and persistence, will amount to crimes against humanity under international law and humanitarian cases.”

NEF Demands and Recommendations
The forum urged the Federal Government to, “Declaring a State of Emergency in Northern Nigeria, acknowledging the extraordinary scale of the crisis.
ii. Deploying adequately trained armed, and equipped security forces with clear rules of engagement to protect civilian populations and secure international border regions.

“Provide adequate compensation, rehabilitation, and humanitarian assistance to victims including displaced persons, in line with international humanitarian standards. Strengthening border control and regional cooperation with neighboring states under ECOWAS and the African Union protocols, to stem cross-border incursions by armed criminal groups.

“Engaging international partners, including the African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN), for technical and humanitarian support."

The NEF emphasizes that continued inaction or insufficient responses to all these security challenges will not only exacerbate human suffering, but also jeopardize national cohesion, democratic sustainability, stability of the polity, and regional peace.

NEF called on the government to act immediately, decisively, transparently and in full alignment with Nigeria’s domestic and international obligations.

The forum pledged to continue monitoring developments while engaging stakeholders nationally and internationally to ensure urgent relief for affected Northern communities.
PoliticsNDMG To El-rufai: Confront Your Vulnerabilities, Stop Meddling In Security Matte by Orabi(op): 10:13am On Sep 03, 2025
The Northwest Democracy Monitoring Group (NDMG) has called on former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to desist from meddling in security matters and instead reflect on his past role in the insecurity ravaging the region.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Sani, the group accused El-Rufai of attempting to shift blame for the Northwest’s worsening security situation onto President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sani said: “It is imperative that Mr. El-Rufai confronts his vulnerabilities and insecurities, which seem to have intensified in the absence of his official powers. We urge him to refrain from meddling in security matters, a domain in which he has previously demonstrated a troubling lack of foresight and accountability.

“It is crucial to remind Mr. El-Rufai that the security crisis currently plaguing the Northwest has roots that extend back to his tenure as governor, during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Under his watch, the seeds of insecurity were sown, and the situation escalated alarmingly while he remained at the helm.

“His refusal to allow meaningful security summits in Kaduna State, gatherings that could have produced actionable solutions to the growing turmoil, has left a legacy of negligence that cannot be overlooked.

“Mr. El-Rufai's recent attempts to shift blame onto President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the deteriorating security situation are not only disingenuous but also indicative of a deeper malaise, one characterized by a propensity for self-preservation at the expense of truth.

“It is disheartening to witness a former leader, who once wielded significant influence, resort to shameless rhetoric that seeks to absolve him of responsibility for the chaos that unfolded under his governance.

“At the heart of Mr. El-Rufai's behavior lies a complex interplay of personal ambition and strategic maneuvering. His history of controversial statements and actions suggests an inclination towards populism, where sensational claims serve to bolster his image as a tough, no-nonsense leader. However, this approach has detrimental consequences, creating an environment of mistrust that inhibits effective governance.

“The accusations leveled by Mr. El-Rufai reflect a broader societal issue, one rooted in psychological factors that may stem from his own childhood trauma. While the narrative of a leader shaped by personal struggles can elicit sympathy, it cannot excuse the ramifications of dishonesty in public office. Such leaders often project their insecurities onto their constituents, perpetuating a cycle of distrust that undermines the very fabric of governance.

“Mr. El-Rufai's recent comments regarding the Federal Government's approach to banditry illustrate the dangers of political rhetoric divorced from reality. By framing the government's actions as complicit with bandits, he misrepresents the complexities of national security and distracts from the tangible progress being made in combating violence.

“The call for citizens to refrain from financially supporting kidnappers and bandits, a message echoed by the Federal Government, underscores the necessity of a united front against criminality. His divisive rhetoric risks undermining collective efforts to restore safety and stability in affected regions.

“Furthermore, Mr. El-Rufai's assertion that the Federal Government is facilitating banditry through financial support and non-kinetic measures, which he has pejoratively termed a “kiss-the-bandits policy,” raises critical questions about his credibility as a leader.

“This sensational rhetoric stands in stark contrast to the grim realities of violence and insecurity that characterized Kaduna State during his administration. The statistics are telling: 1,192 deaths and over 3,348 kidnappings occurred under his watch, painting a picture of a leadership grappling with an escalating crisis.

“In contrast to Mr. El-Rufai's claims, the Federal Government has initiated security operations that have led to the release of over 11,000 hostages and the neutralization of numerous bandit leaders. This juxtaposition highlights a dissonance between Mr. El-Rufai's narrative and the tangible outcomes achieved by federal security forces.

“Rather than engaging in baseless accusations, it would serve him and the people of Kaduna State better to acknowledge the realities of the situation and contribute constructively to the discourse surrounding security.”

The group urged El-Rufai to embrace self-reflection and take responsibility for his role in the current security landscape.

He added, “We call upon Mr. El-Rufai to engage in a moment of introspection. It is time for him to confront the vulnerabilities and insecurities that have clouded his judgment and to recognize the detrimental impact of his rhetoric on the collective efforts to restore peace and stability in the Northwest.

“In light of these considerations, we urge you, Mr. El-Rufai, to engage in a period of reflection. It is time to acknowledge your role in the current security landscape and to take responsibility for the consequences of your actions while in office.

“Your penchant for hyperbole may serve as a defense mechanism, a means of asserting control in a chaotic political environment. However, the consequences of such a strategy are profound. By distorting the truth and fostering divisive narratives, you risk alienating the very constituents you once vowed to serve.”
PoliticsDemocracy Watch Initiative: Obasanjo Vindicated On El-rufai by Orabi(op): 12:12pm On Sep 02, 2025
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI), has said that recent developments surrounding the statements of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, have vindicated former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s long-held assessment of him.

DWI stressed that public discourse must be rooted in truth and integrity, warning that divisive and misleading statements erode public trust and undermine democracy.

In a statement on Tuesday, the group’s Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji Bamidele, recalled Obasanjo’s description of El-Rufai as “a pathological purveyor of untruths and half-truths, with little or no regard for integrity,” noting that unfolding events validate the former president’s words.

Bamidele, said that the political situation of Nigeria is fraught with challenges, and the integrity of its leaders is paramount to the successful navigation of these challenges. It is against this backdrop that we find Obasanjo’s insights into El-Rufai not only prescient but essential for understanding the current political climate.

He said Nigeria’s political situation demands leaders of unquestionable integrity, stressing that Obasanjo’s observations on El-Rufai’s “naivety and immaturity” resonate with the experiences of many Nigerians who have followed his turbulent political career.

Bamidele said: “El-Rufai’s recent statements regarding the security situation in Kaduna State and the broader North-Central region have raised eyebrows and prompted widespread criticism. The Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance has categorically dismissed El-Rufai’s claims that financial incentives were provided to bandits as part of a peace initiative.

“The Chairman of the Vanguard, Ibrahim Abubakar NaGwari, aptly described these statements as “lies and half-truths,” aimed at undermining a peace model that has, in fact, brought relief to the people of Birnin-Gwari and surrounding areas. This assertion starkly contrasts with El-Rufai’s tenure, during which he failed to restore peace in the very regions he now seeks to malign.

“Furthermore, the North-Central All Progressives Congress (NC APC) Forum has echoed these sentiments, criticizing El-Rufai for spreading “propaganda and lies” regarding the security situation under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“The Forum’s Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, has labeled El-Rufai’s comments as politically motivated and devoid of truth. This collective condemnation from various stakeholders reinforces the notion that El-Rufai’s credibility is in serious question, thus validating Obasanjo’s earlier claims.

“El-Rufai’s history of embellishment and misrepresentation is not a new phenomenon. His penchant for distortion, coupled with a lack of loyalty to those who have supported him, has left a trail of disillusionment among his former allies and constituents alike.

“As Obasanjo aptly noted, El-Rufai’s “petit size” may house an “elephantine brain,” but this intellectual capacity does not excuse his “malicious” tendencies. The former governor’s inability to honor others, as highlighted by Obasanjo, is indicative of a deeper character flaw that undermines the very essence of leadership.

“It is imperative to acknowledge that public discourse must be grounded in truth and integrity. Leaders bear a responsibility to their constituents to provide accurate information and to foster trust within the communities they serve. El-Rufai’s recent comments, which seek to sow discord and confusion, are antithetical to this principle.

“They reflect a divisive and bigoted approach that is unbecoming of a statesman, a characterization that aligns with Obasanjo’s assessment of El-Rufai as “divisive, bigoted, hateful, and completely un-statesmanlike.

“In light of these developments, the Democracy Watch Initiative calls upon all citizens, political leaders, and stakeholders to critically evaluate the narratives presented by individuals like El-Rufai. It is essential to scrutinize the motivations behind their statements and to hold them accountable for the veracity of their claims.

“Our democracy thrives on informed discourse, and it is the duty of every citizen to engage with the truth, rejecting falsehoods that compromise our collective future.”

DWI also urged the media to prioritize accuracy in reporting comments made by public figures like El-Rufai to prevent misinformation.

He added, “As we reflect on the words of former President Obasanjo, it becomes increasingly clear that his insights into the character of Nasir El-Rufai are not merely personal opinions but rather a cautionary tale for the Nigerian populace.

“The former President’s commitment to integrity and accountability serves as a guiding light for current and future leaders. It is our hope that El-Rufai will take this opportunity to reflect on his actions and statements, recognizing the importance of honesty and integrity in public service."
PoliticsCNG Counters El-rufai’s Claims On Freedom Of Assembly In Kaduna State by Orabi(op): 11:07am On Sep 01, 2025
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has faulted recent remarks by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in which he claimed that during his eight years in office, no group was ever prevented from holding meetings.

In a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the CNG described El-Rufai’s assertion as “misleading and a blatant distortion of the truth,” accusing the former governor of repeatedly undermining democratic freedoms during his administration.

He said: “The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) finds it imperative to address recent statements made by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, wherein he asserted that during his eight-year tenure as governor, he had never obstructed any group from convening meetings.

“This claim is not only misleading but also a blatant distortion of the truth, reflective of the governor’s characteristic propensity for falsehoods. We, the CNG, our mandate includes the promotion of dialogue, peacebuilding, and the enhancement of democratic values across the region. In this spirit, we convened a crucial summit on December 14, 2022, at the historic Arewa House.

“This gathering brought together esteemed elders, retired security personnel, and religious leaders from both Islamic and Christian communities throughout the North. The objective was to engage in a constructive discourse regarding the pressing security challenges that have beset our region and to devise practical solutions to these issues.

“However, our efforts to foster dialogue were met with hostility and aggression. El-Rufai, rather than supporting a peaceful exchange of ideas, chose to unleash armed thugs to disrupt our summit. The thugs invaded the venue, broke chairs and tables, slashed at participants wounding many while several elderly men had to escape through windows and sustained degrees of injuries.

“Amidst the mayhem, our people were able to arrest one of the assailants, a notorious thug who affiliation with the government is well known, handed him over to the police, only to be released the following day.

“This act of intimidation not only violated our fundamental rights to assembly and free speech but also underscored the governor's intolerance for dissenting voices. The actions taken against the CNG on that day were emblematic of a broader pattern of suppression that has characterized El-Rufai's administration.

“It is disheartening to witness a leader who, instead of uniting the people of Kaduna State, resorted to tactics of fear and violence to silence legitimate discourse. The governor's claims of never having blocked any group from holding meetings are not merely false; they are a denial of the lived experiences of many who have faced similar intimidation under his regime. The CNG stands as a testament to the resilience of the people who refuse to be silenced.”

CNG further noted that recent disruptions of political gatherings linked to El-Rufai were an illustration of “karma,” stressing that the former governor is beginning to face consequences for his policies, including what the group described as unjust demolitions of homes and businesses.

He added, “The very fabric of justice is woven with threads of accountability, and it is evident that the ex-governor is beginning to reap the consequences of his actions. The unjust demolitions of homes and businesses, the suppression of free speech, and the intimidation of peaceful citizens are not acts that go unpunished. The winds of change are blowing through Kaduna, and the people are awakening to the reality that their voices matter.

“As we reflect on El-Rufai's tenure, it becomes increasingly clear that his administration had been marked by a disregard for the democratic principles that underpin our society. The CNG calls upon all citizens of Kaduna State to remain vigilant and to stand firm against any form of oppression.

“Finally, the CNG reminds El-Rufai that the repercussions of his actions will be both relentless and haunting. He has"murdered sleep," and his conscience will be burdened by the consequences of his policies, particularly the demolition of homes and businesses that have uprooted countless lives.

“El-Rufai should expect the wrath of the law of inevitable retribution, as those who have suffered under his governance, whose properties were unjustly annexed or reallocated—will not simply fade into obscurity. This warning underscores a broader sentiment of accountability, emphasizing that leaders cannot escape the ramifications of their decisions.

“As the ghostly echoes of discontent grow louder, El-Rufai may find that the very foundations of his authority are shaken by the ghosts of those he has wronged, reminding us all that the path of governance is fraught with moral responsibilities that cannot be ignored.

“El-Rufai's saga should serve as a reminder to all leaders that power is transient and whatever goes up must come down.”
PoliticsKarma: Paying El-rufai Coin For Coins by Orabi(op): 9:09pm On Aug 31, 2025
By Abdul-Azeez Suleiman

The political atmosphere of Nigeria has often been marked by a tumultuous interplay of power, authority, and the consequences of governance. One of the most striking examples of this dynamic is the tenure of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State. Known for his authoritarian approach and a penchant for silencing dissent, El-Rufai's leadership style has drawn both admiration and criticism.

However, the recent events surrounding his administration reveal a profound irony: the very tactics he employed to suppress opposition have now come back to haunt him. The phrase "paying El-Rufai coin for coin" encapsulates this notion of retribution, where the consequences of his actions are now manifesting in a way that he may not have anticipated.

El-Rufai's governance was characterized by a stringent approach to political gatherings and public discourse. He often dismissed dissenting voices, viewing them as threats to his authority. His administration's crackdown on political gatherings was particularly evident during a security consultation meeting held by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) at Arewa House in Kaduna on December 14, 2022.

This meeting, intended to foster dialogue on pressing security issues, was violently interrupted by armed youths loyal to El-Rufai. The brutal assault on respected participants, including retired security officers, not only highlighted the governor's intolerance for dissent but also underscored the lengths to which he would go to maintain control.

The incident at Arewa House serves as a microcosm of El-Rufai's broader governance strategy, one that prioritized force over dialogue and intimidation over engagement. By unleashing armed thugs on a peaceful gathering, he demonstrated a blatant disregard for democratic principles and the rule of law.

The use of violence as a tool for political control is a dangerous precedent, one that undermines the very fabric of a democratic society. Ironically, the repercussions of such actions have begun to unfold, leading to a situation where El-Rufai is now facing the consequences of his own policies.

The adage “what goes around comes around” poignantly encapsulates the current predicament of El-Rufai, who, less than two years after the CNG incident, now finds himself lamenting the mobilization of thugs to disrupt his political gathering in Kaduna. This region, once under his authoritative control for eight years, has turned against him, reflecting a profound irony in the political landscape. Furthermore, the public's outcry for his arrest and prosecution for allegedly instigating violence underscores a growing demand for accountability, revealing how swiftly the tides of political fortune can shift and the consequences of past actions can resurface.

The very tactics that El-Rufai employed to silence his opponents are now being wielded against him. The public outcry and backlash following the violent disruption of the CNG meeting reflect a growing discontent with his administration. Citizens who once feared retribution for speaking out against his regime are now emboldened, recognizing that the power dynamics have shifted. El-Rufai's attempts to control the narrative through intimidation have backfired, and he now finds himself in a position where he is perceived as the instigator of violence rather than a protector of peace.

Moreover, the fallout from the incident at Arewa House has broader implications for the political climate in Kaduna State and Nigeria as a whole. It serves as a stark reminder that the suppression of dissent can lead to greater instability and unrest. The citizens of Kaduna, once silenced by fear, are now demanding accountability and justice. The call for a reckoning with El-Rufai's actions is not merely a reaction to a single event; it is a manifestation of a deeper yearning for democratic governance and respect for human rights.

In conclusion, the phrase "paying El-Rufai coin for coin" encapsulates the notion of retribution that is unfolding in Kaduna State. The violent tactics employed by El-Rufai to maintain control have ultimately led to a backlash that he could not have foreseen. As the citizens reclaim their voices and demand accountability, it becomes evident that the consequences of authoritarian governance are not easily escaped.

El-Rufai's legacy will be shaped not only by his policies and actions but also by the collective response of a populace that is determined to hold him accountable for the violence and oppression that marked his tenure. In the end, the payment for his actions may be far greater than he ever anticipated.
PoliticsAVID Petitions Trump, Seeks Sanctions On Nigerian Judges Over Nnamdi Kanu by Orabi(op): 10:10am On Aug 30, 2025
The American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), in collaboration with Rising Sun Charities Organization and Ambassadors for Self-Determination, has petitioned the U.S. President Donald Trump to impose Global Magnitsky sanctions on a number of Nigerian judges and former Attorney General Abubakar Malami over their alleged roles in the detention and prosecution of Biafra agitator, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a letter addressed to the president on Friday, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Abuja, the groups accused the Nigerian judiciary of “gross violations of human rights” and complicity in what they described as the unlawful persecution of Kanu, who has been in detention since his extraordinary rendition from Kenya in June 2021.

The petition specifically listed Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, former Chief Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and former Attorney General Malami as those who “enabled arbitrary detention, extraordinary rendition, denial of fair trial rights, and suppression of free speech.”

None of them could be reached for comments.

Avid, which has been undertaking a serious campaign to free Nnamdi Kanu, wrote, “Judges enjoy no immunity for gross violations of internationally recognized human rights.”

AVID said in the petition, “Just as Nazi judges were prosecuted for sham trials and Russian judges have faced sanctions for arbitrary detention, Nigerian judges who endorse persecution must also be held accountable.”

The organizations recalled that the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention had, in July 2022, declared Kanu’s detention unlawful, finding that it violated 16 international human rights covenants and ordering his immediate release and reparations.

“For over three years, Nigeria has openly defied the United Nations ruling, keeping Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in solitary confinement without trial,” said Chief Ugochukwu Nwosu, spokesperson for Rising Sun Charities. “This is a direct affront to international law and a stain on Nigeria’s judiciary.”

The petition also cited several legal decisions in Kanu’s favor, including a ₦500 million award by the Federal High Court in Umuahia in 2022, and a June 2025 ruling by the Nairobi High Court which declared his extraordinary rendition illegal and awarded KES 10 million in damages.

Despite these rulings, the Nigerian courts, according to the petitioners, have continued to justify his detention.

They further criticized the 2017 proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organization, calling it “a politically motivated move” endorsed through an illegal ex parte proceeding.

“No country in the world—including the United States—recognizes IPOB as a terrorist group. Yet Nigerian courts cling to that label as justification for persecuting peaceful activists.”

The group accused Justice Murtala-Nyako the Judge of the Federal High Court Abuja for “arbitrary detention, denial of right to counsel and access to necessary medical care, endorsement of ex parte prohibition of IPOB without due process.”

Also, it accused Justice Tsammani, then Presiding Justice, Court of Appeal, Abuja, now Justice of the Supreme Court, of “arbitrary detention.”

Similarly, it said Justice Barka who presided over the case at the Court of Appeal, Abuja, should be sanctioned for affirming arbitrary ex
parte proscription of IPOB.

While accused Justice Garba, who as justice of the Supreme Court of “affirming arbitrary detention to enable the Nigerian government to profit from its own crimes against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” it accused former Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, Olukayode Ariwoola, of “endorsing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s kidnapping, torture, extraordinary rendition, and arbitrary detention without trial.” The group said they should be sanctioned.

It alleged “the former Attorney General Abubakar Malami orchestrated Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s kidnapping, torture, extraordinary rendition. And arbitrary detention without trial” and should also be sanctioned.

The petitioners insisted that sanctions under the Global Magnitsky Act are necessary to deter further abuses.

“Silence in the face of injustice emboldens dictators,” the petition concluded.

“By sanctioning these officials, Nigeria will be sending a clear message that human rights violations carry consequences, no matter where they occur.”

The organizations reiterated that their call is not merely about Kanu, but about broader accountability and the protection of human rights in Nigeria.

“This is about ensuring no judge, no official, and no government can trample on fundamental freedoms without repercussions. The world must not look away,” the petition ended.
PoliticsAmnesty International's Recent Report On Nigeria Fake, Mischievous, Says NDMG by Orabi(op): 6:42pm On Aug 29, 2025
The Northwest Democracy Monitoring Group (NDMG) has faulted the latest report released by Amnesty International on Nigeria, describing it as “fake, mischievous and grossly misleading.”

In a statement by its Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Sani, the group said the figures cited in Amnesty’s report were “inflated, unsubstantiated and inflammatory,” warning that such claims could incite division and unrest in the country.

He said: “We categorically challenge the numbers cited in this report, deeming them grossly inflated, misleading, and ultimately inflammatory. It is imperative that we clarify our position and call upon Amnesty International to reconsider its approach to Nigeria and our ongoing efforts to strengthen democracy.

“The report in question presents figures that, upon careful examination, lack the rigorous substantiation expected from an organization of Amnesty International's stature.

“The NDMG, committed to monitoring and promoting democratic values, has been on the ground, gathering data and insights from various communities across the Northwest region. Our findings starkly contrast with the inflated figures presented by Amnesty, which appear to be designed not to inform but to incite unrest and division within our society.

“It is essential to recognize that the context in which these figures are presented is equally important. The situation in Nigeria is complex, influenced by a myriad of socio-political factors.

“Oversimplifying these issues through exaggerated statistics does a disservice to the people of Nigeria, who are striving for peace and stability.

The group further urged Amnesty International to collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders in order to gain a better understanding of Nigeria’s challenges, rather than relying on what it called “sensationalized data that fosters distrust and fear.”

He added, “Moreover, the timing of this report raises questions about its intentions. At a time when Nigeria is working diligently to address its challenges through dialogue and democratic processes, the dissemination of misleading information serves only to undermine these efforts.

“We believe that such actions are not merely misguided but are indicative of a broader agenda that seeks to destabilize our nation. We implore Amnesty International to reflect on the potential consequences of its actions and to reconsider the impact of its reporting on the ground.

“In light of these concerns, we call upon Amnesty International to leave Nigeria alone and redirect its focus toward areas where its efforts may be more constructive.

“Our nation is not in need of external interference that exacerbates tensions; rather, we require support that acknowledges our sovereignty and respects our ongoing journey toward democratic consolidation.

“The Northwest Democracy Monitoring Group stands firm in our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the promotion of democratic values. We will continue to monitor the situation in Nigeria closely and advocate for the truth.”

He urged Amnesty International to exercise greater caution and responsibility in its reporting, ensuring that it contributes positively to the discourse surrounding human rights and democracy in our nation.
PoliticsNorthern Youth Frontiers Raises Alarm Over Amnesty International’s “disruptive A by Orabi(op): 3:36pm On Aug 28, 2025
The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), a coalition of young Nigerians from the northern region, has accused Amnesty International of engaging in activities that it described as disruptive, misleading, and capable of undermining Nigeria’s security and stability.

In a statement on Thursday, the group’s National Coordinator, Sama Musa, alleged that the human rights organization’s recent reports on the country’s security challenges were “careless, mischievous, and designed to incite chaos.”

He said: “We believe that the organization’s recent reports and actions are not only careless but also deliberately mischievous, aimed at inciting chaos and undermining the security and stability of our beloved nation. In recent years, Nigeria has faced a myriad of security challenges, from insurgency in the northeast to banditry in the northwest and conflicts in various regions.

“The Federal Government, alongside our brave security forces, has been working tirelessly to restore peace and order. However, the reports disseminated by Amnesty International portray a distorted image of the situation, often focusing on sensational narratives that lack substantiated evidence.

“This selective reporting not only misleads the international community but also demoralizes our troops and emboldens those who seek to destabilize our nation.

“Amnesty International’s approach appears to be driven by an agenda that prioritizes sensationalism over accuracy. Their reports often highlight alleged human rights abuses without providing a balanced view of the complexities involved in combating terrorism and insecurity.

“Such one-sided narratives can incite unrest and deepen divisions among our people, ultimately jeopardizing the fragile peace we are striving to achieve. It is imperative that we recognize these tactics for what they are: deliberate attempts to sow discord and chaos in our society.

“The implications of Amnesty International’s careless reporting extend beyond mere misinformation. They threaten to undermine the credibility of our security forces, who are risking their lives daily to protect our citizens.

“By painting our military and law enforcement agencies as weak, Amnesty International not only demotivates our troops but also emboldens criminals and insurgents, who thrive on the perception of weakness and disunity within our ranks.

“We, the Northern Youth Frontiers, unequivocally call upon the Federal Government to take decisive action against the disruptive maneuvers of Amnesty International. It is crucial that we protect our sovereignty and the integrity of our national security operations.

“While we acknowledge the importance of human rights and the need for accountability, it is equally vital that these discussions are grounded in reality and do not serve as a cover for those who wish to exploit our vulnerabilities.”

The group called on the Federal Government to take what it described as “decisive steps” against Amnesty International.

He added, “The Federal Government should conduct a thorough investigation into the activities of Amnesty International within Nigeria. This inquiry should assess the motivations behind their reports and the potential impact on national security.

“The government should engage with local communities, civil society organizations, and security experts to develop a comprehensive understanding of the security situation. This engagement will help counter misinformation and provide a more nuanced perspective on the challenges we face.

“If deemed necessary, the Federal Government should explore legal avenues to restrict the operations of Amnesty International in Nigeria. Organizations that deliberately mislead the public and incite chaos should not be allowed to operate unchecked.

“We urge the government to launch campaigns to educate the public about the realities of the security situation and the importance of supporting our security forces. This will help foster a sense of unity and resilience among our citizens.

“We stand firm in our belief that the activities of Amnesty International are detrimental to the peace and stability of Nigeria. We call on the Federal Government to act swiftly and decisively to protect our nation from external influences that seek to exploit our challenges for their own gain.”
PoliticsADC Warns Malam Bolaji Abdullahi Against Parading As Party Spokesperson by Orabi(op): 1:39pm On Aug 28, 2025
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has issued a strong warning to Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, cautioning him against parading himself as the party’s Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson.

In a statement on Thursday, by Director of Media and Public Affairs in the Office of the National Chairman, Dr. Christopher O. Okechukwu, the party said Abdullahi’s claim to the role was misleading, unauthorized, and a violation of established party protocols.

The party further urged Abdullahi to desist immediately from using the ADC’s name and title without proper authorization, warning that such actions compromise the integrity of its leadership.

Okechukwu said: “The ADC finds it imperative to address a matter of significant concern regarding the representation of our esteemed party. It has come to our attention that Malam Bolaji Abdullahi has been presenting himself as the Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson of the ADC.

“This assertion is not only misleading but also a violation of the established protocols that govern the appointment of individuals to such critical positions within our party. The ADC is committed to upholding the principles of transparency, accountability, and democratic governance.

“To this end, the eligibility criteria for the position of Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson are explicitly defined, and adherence to these criteria is non-negotiable. These requirements include:

“The individual must be a registered and active member of the ADC. This ensures that the spokesperson is not only familiar with the party's values and mission but also actively engaged in its activities.

“The candidate must obtain a nomination form and secure nominations from at least three party members across the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. This process is essential for fostering inclusiveness and ensuring that the voice of the party is representative of its diverse membership.

“The individual must be elected to the position at the Party's National Convention. This democratic process is designed to uphold the integrity of the party's leadership and ensure that those who represent us have the mandate of the members.

“In light of these criteria, it is clear that Malam Bolaji Abdullahi does not meet the necessary requirements to serve as the Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson of the ADC. His continued self-identification in this capacity is not only unauthorized but also undermines the credibility of our party. Therefore, we urge Malam Abdullahi to cease and desist from using the ADC's name and title without proper authorization immediately.”

The statement also called on media organizations and journalists to exercise caution in their reporting by refraining from recognizing Abdullahi as an official spokesperson of the ADC.

He added, “We call upon media houses and journalists to exercise due diligence in their reporting. It is crucial that they refrain from recognizing Malam Bolaji Abdullahi as an official spokesperson of the ADC. By doing so, media outlets will contribute to maintaining the accuracy, authenticity, and reliability of their reporting, which is vital for public trust and informed discourse.

“The ADC is dedicated to preserving the integrity and credibility of its representation. We believe that only authorized individuals should speak on behalf of the party, ensuring that our message is consistent and aligned with the values we uphold. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders in this matter.”

The party also reiterates its commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law within our party. “We will continue to advocate for transparency and accountability in all our dealings. The ADC remains focused on its mission to serve the Nigerian people and promote the ideals of good governance."

PoliticsDemocracy Watch Initiative Accuses Amnesty International Of Fueling Discord In N by Orabi(op): 2:00pm On Aug 27, 2025
The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI) has accused Amnesty International (AI) of exacerbating tensions in Nigeria through what it described as “unfounded and misleading” reports on violence across the country.

In a statement on Wednesday, by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji O. Bamidele, the group said AI’s recent claims of mass killings and abductions were inflated, mischievous, and aimed at destabilizing the country.

According to Amnesty International, at least 65 people were killed in recent attacks, including over 50 worshippers reportedly gunned down in Katsina and more than 15 farmers killed in Plateau State’s Mangu Local Government Area. The rights body also claimed that over 60 persons were abducted and more than 200 displaced.

But DWI dismissed these figures, insisting they were part of a pattern by AI to exploit societal grievances irresponsibly.

He said: “The report has the potential to illuminate injustices and inspire hope among the oppressed. However, when organizations like Amnesty International leverage this discontent irresponsibly, they risk igniting unrest and division.

“By amplifying grievances without substantiating claims, AI positions itself as a voice for the marginalized, yet their actions can lead to unintended consequences that fracture society rather than foster solidarity.

“At the core of Amnesty International's strategy lies a troubling propensity to exploit societal rifts. By framing issues in a manner that pits communities against one another, AI cultivates an environment ripe for conflict.

“This approach raises significant ethical questions: Are the rights of some worth the discord inflicted upon the many? In a nation where unity is paramount for progress, AI's methods appear counterproductive, fostering division rather than collaboration.

“While rebellion can be a legitimate response to oppression, the encouragement of such actions by organizations like Amnesty International can lead to chaos rather than constructive change.

“The romanticized notion of rebellion often overlooks the grim realities that accompany its loss of life, destruction of property, and the potential for authoritarian crackdowns. By advocating for rebellion without a clear understanding of the repercussions, AI jeopardizes the very human rights it claims to defend.

“The ethical implications of Amnesty International's approach are profound. On one hand, the organization seeks to spotlight human rights abuses, which is commendable; on the other, its methods provoke a moral quandary.

“Is it justifiable to incite discontent if it leads to greater awareness of human rights violations? Or does the potential for chaos and violence negate the legitimacy of such actions? This dilemma underscores the complexities of advocacy in a world rife with injustice. While AI may believe it is acting in humanity's best interest, the ramifications of its actions often complicate the narrative of progress."

DWI maintained that promoting dialogue and understanding is a more constructive path to address grievances than what it termed Amnesty’s “incendiary tactics.”

He added, “In stark contrast to Amnesty International's incendiary tactics, the promotion of dialogue and understanding emerges as a more constructive avenue for human rights advocacy. Engaging in open conversations fosters empathy and collaboration, enabling the identification of common ground among diverse groups.

“This approach, while challenging, holds the promise of lasting change without sacrificing stability. By prioritizing communication over confrontation, advocates can work toward a more just society, preserving the peace essential for genuine progress.

“The initiative firmly asserts that Amnesty International's current trajectory, characterized by the incitement of discontent and encouragement of rebellion, poses a significant threat to Nigeria's social cohesion.

“While AI raises awareness of critical issues, its methods risk leading to chaos and division, ultimately undermining the very rights it seeks to protect. The ethical dilemmas posed by such advocacy necessitate a reevaluation of strategies employed in the pursuit of justice."

The initiative calls upon Amnesty International to reconsider its approach and engage in constructive dialogue that prioritizes unity and peace over discord and division.

He urge AI to recognize the complexities of the Nigerian context and to adopt strategies that promote healing and cooperation rather than exacerbating tensions.
PoliticsNYF Commends Tinubu, Ribadu, Armed Forces Over Arrest Of Ansaru Commanders by Orabi(op): 9:35am On Aug 27, 2025
The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the leadership of Nigeria’s armed forces and intelligence community for the successful operation that led to the arrest of two high-profile commanders of the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist network, Ansaru.

Reports confirmed that a carefully coordinated, intelligence-driven operation resulted in the capture of Mahmud Muhammad Usman, popularly known as Abu Bara’a, the self-styled “Emir of Ansaru,” along with his deputy, Mahmud al-Nigeri, also called Mallam Mamuda, leader of the notorious “Mahmudawa” faction operating around Kainji National Park.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Sama Musa, the NYF described the breakthrough as a “decisive blow not just to Ansaru’s central command but also to other terrorist groups and their enablers in Nigeria.”

Musa said that the arrests were further evidence that Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations under President Tinubu are “yielding results through the decimation of cruel terrorists.”

The youth body also commended the synergy of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and other partners whose professionalism and sacrifice made the operation possible.

It also acknowledged the recognition given by the United States Government, through its Embassy in Nigeria, for praising the country’s efforts in capturing Ansaru leaders, describing the international support as a boost to global cooperation against terrorism.

NYF recalled that the latest arrests add to a string of recent successes against terrorists and bandits since President Tinubu assumed office. Among those neutralised or captured are Halilu Sububu, Buhari Alhaji Halidu (Buharin Yadi), Dangote (a bandit kingpin), Boderi Isyaku, Kachalla Dan Chaki, Dogo Gudali, Dogo Rabe, Alhaji Auta, Kachalla Ruga, Rufai Maikaji, bandit leader Yellow, Ali Kachalla, Ali Kawaji, as well as the arrest of Muslim Muhammad Yusuf, son of late Boko Haram leader, Muhammad Yusuf.

Musa noted that just on Saturday, August 24, 2025, the Nigerian Air Force neutralised 35 terrorists in Borno State, while 75 kidnapped victims were rescued in Katsina State after major operations. These victories point to a sustained momentum that is steadily crippling terror networks across the country.

The NYF equally recognises the role of vigilant local communities whose cooperation remains crucial in denying terrorists safe havens.

Musa said: “We calls on security agencies to sustain and intensify efforts, swiftly exploiting recovered intelligence to dismantle remaining cells, sponsors, and facilitators. With sustained resolve, we are heading towards the end of the terror groups and bandits that have long disturbed our communities.

“The NYF appeals for consolidation of community stabilization and victim support programmes in affected areas as the Government prosecutes the captured commanders and other terrorists to ensure justice for victims while reinforcing deterrence.

“Thus, NYF calls on state governments across the security-challenged areas in the North to complement the federal Government's effort through supporting community-based security efforts, intelligence sharing, youth empowerment, and counter-extremism initiatives that will undercut terrorist recruitment pipelines in our communities.

“We contend that this high-profile arrest and the elimination of several notorious kingpins are part of the reward accomplished due to strong political leadership, inter-agency coordination, and citizen participation anchored on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.”

The group reaffirms its readiness to partner with relevant authorities on civic awareness, counter-radicalization campaigns, and community-level reporting networks to enhance security in our communities.

“We believe that terrorists and terrorism have no place in our region, and with sustained resolve, we are certain that Ansaru and similar groups will be dismantled completely, and peace restored to our communities,” he added.
PoliticsADC Factional Chairman, Nafiu Bala Denies Resignation From Party by Orabi(op): 10:55am On Aug 24, 2025
The factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Nafiu Bala, has dismissed as fake a resignation letter purportedly attributed to him, describing it as a fraudulent creation by desperate political actors.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs in the Office of the National Chairman, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, the party said the document dated May 18, 2025, was neither authored nor signed by Hon. Nafiu Bala and lacks the official insignia of the ADC.

Okechukwu emphasised that Nafiu Bala has not resigned from his position and continues to lead the party following due process as stipulated in its constitution. It further described the fake letter as a desperate ploy designed to destabilise the party.

He said, “The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress under the legitimate and constitutionally recognized Acting National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala, hereby issues this statement to categorically deny the existence of any legitimate resignation letter from Hon. Nafiu Bala and to expose the malicious plot engineered by former National Chairman Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu and a coalition of power-seeking elements attempting to hijack the party’s structures through undemocratic means.

“The ADC emphatically denies the authenticity of a resignation letter purportedly authored by Hon. Nafiu Bala and dated May 18, 2025. This document is entirely fabricated, fraudulent, and maliciously circulated by certain mischievous elements within and outside our party seeking to undermine the ADC’s constitutional leadership and sow discord among our members.

“Hon. Nafiu Bala has not at any time resigned from his position as Deputy National Chairman of the ADC, nor has he relinquished his leadership role following the legitimate transition processes outlined in the party constitution.

“The fraudulent document, which lacks official party letterhead, emblems, or insignia, represents a desperate attempt to create confusion and destabilise the party’s operations.

Constitutional Leadership Transition Process: The ADC affirms that according to our constitution, any individual seeking to assume a leadership position must. Be a registered member of the party for at least one year. Maintain current financial obligations and membership status. Follow due process in leadership transitions.

“The ADC leadership has identified a coordinated effort by a coalition of power-seeking individuals, including former National Chairman Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu and certain external political actors, to illegitimately seize control of the party’s structures in violation of constitutional provisions.

“This group has attempted to submit unauthorised documentation to the Independent National Electoral Commission, including the fabricated resignation letter, as part of a broader scheme to undermine the ADC’s legitimate leadership and impose unelected officials who do not meet constitutional requirements for party leadership.”

He called on the INEC to reject any unauthorised documentation and recognise only Hon. Nafiu Bala’s leadership.

He added, “The African Democratic Congress calls upon INEC to reject any unauthorised documentation and recognise only the legitimate leadership under Hon. Nafiu Bala. Party members nationwide are to remain vigilant against misinformation campaigns.

“The general public is to disregard false claims about party leadership changes. Law enforcement agencies are to investigate this attempt to undermine democratic processes.

“The African Democratic Congress under Hon. Nafiu Bala’s leadership remains the legitimate, constitutionally-recognised platform committed to Nigeria’s democratic development.”

He urged stakeholders to reject the desperate attempts by power mongers to destabilise our party and instead join us in building a stronger democratic future.

PoliticsZamfara Democracy Monitoring Group Group Slams Police Deployment Ahead Of Rerun by Orabi(op): 7:50pm On Aug 20, 2025
The Zamfara Democracy Monitoring Group (ZDMG), has condemned the massive deployment of police and other security personnel across Zamfara State ahead of the forthcoming rerun elections.

ZDMG described the deployment of Mobile Police (MOPOL) units and Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) operatives as an “alarming trend” that threatens the integrity of the electoral process.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Lawali Hassan, the group said it had obtained a police signal indicating the posting of a high-ranking Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) from Force Headquarters, along with units from Kaduna, Zaria, Sokoto, and Gombe.

ZDMG described the deployment of Mobile Police (MOPOL) units and Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) operatives as an “alarming trend” that threatens the integrity of the electoral process.

He said: “It is with grave concern that the Zamfara Democracy Monitoring Group (ZDMG) addresses the recent developments regarding the massive police deployment and redeployment observed across the state, as indicated by a police signal received by our organization.

“The actions taken by the authorities, which include the posting of a high-ranking Assistant Inspector General (AIG) from Force Headquarters, alongside various police units from Kaduna, Zaria, and Sokoto, signal an alarming trend that threatens the integrity of our democratic processes.

“The ZDMG has noted with dismay the presence of personnel from the Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) from Gombe, Force Headquarters, and Kaduna, as well as the deployment of Mobile Police (MOPOL) units.

“Such a significant mobilization of law enforcement resources, particularly in the context of the upcoming rerun elections, raises serious questions about the intentions behind these actions.

“We are compelled to assert that this deployment appears to be a calculated maneuver aimed at ensuring electoral victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the rerun elections that were not concluded last Saturday.

“It is imperative to recall that during the recent elections, there was an unprecedented involvement of military personnel, including members of the Air Force and Navy, in what should have been a civilian-led electoral process.

“The presence of these armed forces, who ordinarily have no legitimate role in democratic elections, further underscores the unsettling nature of the current political climate in Zamfara.

“Their involvement not only undermines the sanctity of the electoral process but also instills fear and apprehension among the electorate, thereby jeopardizing the fundamental right of citizens to participate freely and fairly in the democratic process.”

Hassan described the development as particularly disheartening given Zamfara’s long history of insecurity and terrorism.

The group called on authorities to reconsider their actions and uphold the principles of free and fair elections, while urging civil society, political parties, and the international community to condemn what it called an “unacceptable attempt to subvert democracy.”
