The Taraba Renaissance Group (TRG), on Monday, strongly condemned the latest report released by Amnesty International, describing it as “a misleading and dangerous fabrication” aimed at sowing religious discord and destabilizing Northern Nigeria. In a statement issued on Monday, Bridget Grace Adamu, Chairperson of Taraba Renaissance Group, accused Amnesty International of peddling “a false narrative” of widespread conflict between Muslims and Christians in the North, particularly in states like Taraba, Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau. The group claimed that the report’s findings were exaggerated, one-sided, and tailored to a predetermined agenda, suggesting a deliberate effort to portray Northern Nigeria as a zone of unending religious conflict. He said: “The Taraba Renaissance Group categorically rejects the latest report released by Amnesty International, which seeks to portray a false narrative of conflict between Northern Nigerian Muslims and Christians. This report is not only misleading but also represents a shameful fabrication of facts aimed at exacerbating tensions among already fragile communities. “Amnesty International has a well-documented history of producing reports that, while intended to highlight human rights abuses, often fall short of accuracy and impartiality. The data supplied in their latest publication is grossly exaggerated and appears to be tailored to fit a predetermined agenda that serves to pit one religious group against another. “Such actions are not only irresponsible but also dangerous, as they threaten the fragile peace that exists in regions such as Kaduna, Taraba, Benue, and Plateau States. “It is disheartening to witness an organization, which claims to advocate for human rights, engaging in tactics that sow discord and mistrust among communities. The insinuation that Muslims and Christians in Northern Nigeria are at each other's throats is not only inaccurate but plays directly into the hands of those who wish to see the region destabilized. “This report serves the long-standing international destabilization agenda that has been actively supported by local collaborators, including disgruntled politicians who thrive on division and chaos. “The motives behind such a report are clear. By inflaming ethnic and religious tensions, Amnesty International aims to diminish the viability of the North, rendering it incapable of standing on its own two feet and competing favorably with other parts of the country. This is a calculated strategy designed to weaken the region economically, socially, and politically. We must not allow ourselves to be pawns in this dangerous game. “As a group committed to the progress and unity of Taraba and the broader Northern region, we call upon all peace-loving citizens to see through this divisive narrative. We urge the public to question the authenticity of the data presented by Amnesty International and to recognize the broader implications of such reports. Instead of fostering division, we should be working towards unity, understanding, and collaboration among all ethnic and religious groups in Northern Nigeria.” The TRG urged Nigerians, especially those in the affected states, to reject divisive narratives and instead focus on peacebuilding and intercommunal cooperation. They added, “We also call upon the Nigerian government to take a stand against the dissemination of misleading information that threatens our national cohesion. It is imperative that we protect our communities from external influences that seek to exploit our differences for their own gain. “The Taraba Renaissance Group is committed to promoting peace, unity, and development in our region. We will not be swayed by external forces that aim to destabilize our communities." |
The Concerned Christians of Benue State (CCBS), have issued a passionate call for unity and vigilance in the face of what they describe as a rising wave of foreign interference and internal betrayal threatening Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability. They warned that the manipulation of ethnic and religious fault lines, particularly in the northern region, is being orchestrated by foreign interests with the active support of certain local political actors. In a statement signed by Chairman Matthew Samuel, the group declared that Nigeria is once again "at the crossroads of faith, patriotism, and the quest for peace." Samuel said: “Since the inception of Nigeria's independence, the specter of foreign powers seeking to influence our internal affairs has loomed large. The northern states have often been the epicenter of these destabilization efforts, where external actors have sought to exploit ethnic and religious divisions for their gain. “From the early days of our nationhood, these foreign interests have engaged in a subtle yet persistent campaign to undermine our sovereignty, often through the manipulation of local agents who, in their quest for power and influence, have betrayed the very essence of our national unity. “This manipulation has not been limited to overt military interventions; rather, it has taken the form of insidious propaganda, economic sabotage, and the fostering of discord among our diverse communities. International human rights organizations, which were once seen as champions of justice, are increasingly being accused of becoming pawns in the hands of international politicians. “Their reports, often lacking in nuance and context, have been weaponized to serve foreign agendas, further complicating the already delicate situation in Nigeria. The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State marked a significant turning point in Nigeria's struggle for stability. In the aftermath of this declaration, certain failed politicians from Benue State have sought to capitalize on the chaos, aiming to bring about instability within our region. “These individuals, motivated by personal ambition rather than the common good, have found a willing ally in organizations such as Amnesty International, whose reports and statements have often exacerbated tensions rather than alleviating them. “The partnership between these disgruntled politicians and Amnesty International raises serious questions about the integrity of the information being disseminated. “How did Amnesty International arrive at casualty figures that are not only provocative but also appear to be strategically aligned with the narratives of those seeking to destabilize our region? The lack of transparency in their methodologies and the apparent reliance on questionable sources have led many to suspect that these figures are inflated and politically motivated. “As the Concerned Christians of Benue State, we categorically state that any form of foreign interference in our national affairs will not be accepted and will be vehemently resisted. We are a people of faith, and our belief in the sovereignty of Nigeria is unwavering.” He also appeals to government institutions, civil society groups, and international partners to work together in promoting peace, mutual respect, and factual accountability. He added, “Our strength lies in our unity, and it is only through collective action that we can safeguard our heritage and ensure a peaceful future for generations to come. We urge all Nigerians to remain vigilant and discerning, to question the sources of information that seek to manipulate our perceptions, and to stand firm in our commitment to a stable and prosperous Nigeria. “We implore all stakeholders, government, civil society, and the international community, to work collaboratively in fostering an environment of peace, respect, and mutual understanding. “Let us not allow the machinations of foreign powers and their local collaborators to dictate our destiny. Together, we can build a Nigeria that is not only resilient but also a beacon of hope for other nations grappling with similar challenges.” |
The North Central Citizens Council (NCCC), has strongly condemned a recent report by Amnesty International alleging widespread killings by gunmen across several Nigerian states, describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead Nigerians and tarnish the country's image globally. In a statement jointly signed by the Coordinator of the Council, Mohammed Eneji; General Secretary, Grace Abu; and Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Omodayo, the NCCC criticized the report as “malicious, misleading, and an attempt to misinform the world about the actual security situation in Nigeria.” Amnesty International also reportedly called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently fulfill his campaign promises to address the nation’s persistent security challenges. The statement comes on the heels of a report published by Premium Times, quoting Amnesty International as saying that over 10,217 people have been killed in attacks by gunmen in Benue, Edo, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, Sokoto, and Zamfara States since May 29, 2023. The statement read: “It was reported that the group then called on the President of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Tinubu, to "fulfil his promises to Nigerians and urgently address the resurgence of the nation's endemic security crisis. “It is on record that Amnesty International over the years has been a vanguard of misinformation and always in an attempt to discredit the efforts made by the Nigerian government in its war against insecurity. According to a report released by an American congressman, the majority of international NGOs, particularly located in North East Nigeria, were founded to further exacerbate insecurity in the region. “This report, made by Amnesty International, has further vindicated the congressman about those international NGOs who are alleged to be sponsored by elements who are headbent in destroying the images of the country for political gains. “It is no news that Nigeria is currently faced with security challenges and the government of the day, ably led by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has been working tirelessly to see to the end of insecurity and banditry in Nigeria and the figures and claims made by the above mentioned body do not align with verified government data. “Several of the figures and assertions contained therein are inconsistent with verified data in Nigeria's possession. A lot of gains have been achieved under the National Security adviser in person Malllam Nuhu Ribadu on insecurity, and we believe that the situation will continue to improve.” While calling on Amnesty International and similar organizations to desist from spreading unverified information, the NCCC warned that further attempts to incite public distrust against the government could result in legal action and mass protests. “We further urge Nigerians to disregard the malicious report circulated by Amnesty International and also reject the operations of Amnesty International from Nigeria by banning their activities completely “Conclusively, we call upon all African nations to critically evaluate the operations of such organizations within their borders. It advocates for a suspension of activities until these entities commit to respecting local contexts and frameworks. “This approach not only seeks to safeguard national interests but also aims to foster an environment where international cooperation can thrive without compromising the autonomy and integrity of sovereign states, ” they added. |
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has delivered a sharp rebuke of Amnesty International, accusing the global rights body of inflating violence statistics and fomenting religious discord in Northern Nigeria. The CNG insists that Amnesty’s reporting lacks transparency and urges the federal government, and other African nations to suspend Amnesty’s operations until it adopts approaches that respect local contexts. National Coordinator of the CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, warning of “orchestrated plans aimed at sowing discord between Northern Nigerian Muslims and Christians.” He challenged Amnesty International’s recent report, which claimed more than 10,217 deaths in the past two years, 6,896 in Benue State and 2,630 in Plateau State, saying the figures were unsubstantiated and likely skewed to portray Christians as primary victims. Charanchi said: “It is regrettable that Amnesty International would attempt to revise historical narratives concerning the notable achievements of the federal government in combating insecurity. The current security landscape reflects significant improvements, allowing citizens to traverse routes such as Abuja to Kaduna and onward to Gusau and Katsina with a sense of safety. “This progress underscores the effectiveness of governmental strategies in addressing security challenges, fostering an environment conducive to travel and economic activity. Acknowledging these successes is crucial for a balanced understanding of the ongoing efforts to enhance national security and promote public confidence in governmental initiatives. “It is imperative to understand that the narrative being pushed by Amnesty International is not only misleading but also dangerous. It serves to deepen the divisions between our communities at a time when we should be fostering dialogue and understanding. The Coalition of Northern Groups believes that such misrepresentation of facts is a disservice to the truth and an affront to the dignity of all Nigerians, regardless of their religious affiliations. “In the lead-up to elections in Nigeria, a recurring strategy among politicians lacking substantive performance records is to divert attention through accusations against the incumbent government, particularly concerning insecurity. “This tactic was notably evident in 2024, when an assassination attempt involving explosives was orchestrated against a political candidate, seemingly to elicit public sympathy and bolster his electoral prospects. Such manipulative actions not only undermine the integrity of the political process but also distract from critical discourse on governance and accountability, ultimately eroding public trust in democratic institutions.” He furthermore referenced allegations by a U.S. congressman that certain foreign entities have financed extremist groups, including Boko Haram, saying that, “We must ask: are these organizations genuinely concerned about human rights, or are they fronts for foreign agendas bent on destabilization?” The group blamed former Governor Samuel Ortom’s decision to arm forest guards for exacerbating clashes, and pointed to unresolved frictions between current Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. CNG urged a continental reevaluation of Amnesty International’s activities. Citing Ethiopia’s suspension of three human rights NGOs, Côte d’Ivoire’s regulatory ordinance, Guinea’s temporary pause on licence renewals, Rwanda’s NGO budgeting restrictions, and Uganda’s reorganization of its NGO bureau. He added, “In Uganda, an amendment to the NGO law paved the way for the dissolution of the semi-autonomous NGO Bureau and its re-establishment as a department within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, signalling a move towards centralized decision-making, control and increased government oversight of NGO affairs. “We call for a comprehensive review of the operations of organizations like Amnesty International in Nigeria. We believe that their continued presence and influence may do more harm than good, and we advocate for a ban on their activities within our borders. It is time for us to take a stand against the manipulation of narratives that seek to pit us against one another. “We urge all Nigerians to remain vigilant and united in the face of these challenges. We must not allow external forces to dictate the terms of our coexistence. Instead, let us come together as one people, embracing our diversity while standing firm against any attempts to divide us. The Coalition of Northern Groups is committed to promoting peace, understanding, and collaboration among all Nigerians, regardless of their faith.” |
The Arewa Joint Action Movement (AJAM), has lauded the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as “significant and commendable strides” in restoring peace and security to northern Nigeria, once plagued by insurgency and rampant criminality. The group particularly highlighted the role of the Ministry of Defence, under Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, for implementing high-impact, tech-enabled security operations across the North West and North Central zones. In a statement issued by Lauretta Bako, Convener of AJAM, the group acknowledged the dramatic improvement in the region's security landscape, crediting the administration’s strategic military operations, technology-driven security reforms, and coordinated national efforts for the progress made. He said: “Today, we stand in a vastly improved security landscape, where Boko Haram has been pushed into enclaves, and the leaders of kidnappers and bandits have been neutralized, with many forced into hiding. “The ongoing efforts by the Defence Ministry under Minister Badaru Abubakar to enhance Nigeria’s operational posture in the North West and North Central Zones through the deployment of high-tech combat enablers and strategic military operations have yielded significant dividends. “The successes recorded in neutralizing bandits, terrorists, and criminal networks, coupled with the revitalization of local economies, illustrate the effectiveness of this approach. “The introduction of high-tech combat enablers has been pivotal in enhancing the operational effectiveness of Nigeria’s security forces. The deployment of these advanced technologies has allowed for more precise intelligence gathering, improved surveillance, and more effective engagement with criminal elements. A cornerstone of these gains is Operation FANSAR YAMMA, which has achieved major successes, including the elimination of notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Dogo Isah and 44 other terrorists in Zamfara State during coordinated air and ground assaults. He added, “The killing of high-profile criminals, including gun runners and bandit leaders, has not only dismantled key networks of violence but has also sent a strong message to remaining criminal elements that the state is resolute in its fight against insecurity. “Moreover, the expansion of Operation WHIRL STROKE to include parts of Taraba State has further solidified the security framework in the region. This operation has become instrumental in addressing the complex web of criminal activities that have plagued the North Central Zone. The synergy between various security agencies, inspired by the Hope Agenda, has enhanced operational coordination, leading to the successful arrest of numerous criminals and the rescue of hostages. “The establishment of the National Mission Force Brigade in Samaru Kataf has also played a crucial role in addressing security challenges in Southern Kaduna, leading to improved socio-economic conditions in the area. The statistics speak volumes: during the first quarter of 2025 alone, 122 extremists were eliminated, and over 1,000 criminals were arrested, showcasing the renewed vigor in Nigeria’s security operations. “The impact of these enhanced security measures extends beyond mere statistics; it has tangible effects on the daily lives of citizens. Highways that were once considered perilous, such as the Kaduna-Abuja route, are now safer for commuters, facilitating trade and travel. “Markets in areas like Giwa, Birnin Gwari, and Jibia are experiencing a resurgence, as local leaders and the general public attest to the improved security climate. This revival of economic activity is a direct result of the operational successes achieved through targeted military actions and the establishment of a secure environment for business to thrive. “Furthermore, the operational achievements in the North West and North Central Zones are not just limited to high-profile arrests and neutralizations; they also include the discovery and dismantling of criminal infrastructures. The identification of gun-making factories in Plateau State and the apprehension of individuals linked to high-profile gunrunning syndicates demonstrate a comprehensive approach to tackling the root causes of insecurity. The capture of notorious kidnappers and cult leaders further underscores the commitment of Nigeria’s security forces to restore law and order. “While some may downplay the importance of these successes from the comfort of their distant locales, we, the people of the North, understand the profound implications of this progress. We are acutely aware of the sacrifices made by our gallant troops who have fought valiantly to reclaim our territories and restore a sense of normalcy. The change in administration in 2013 marked a pivotal moment in our fight against insecurity, and the subsequent actions taken by the current government have reaffirmed our faith in the possibility of peace and stability in our beloved region. “As the Arewa Joint Action Movement, we stand united in our support for the ongoing efforts by the Defence Ministry to secure our communities and restore hope to our people. We acknowledge that while challenges remain, the path forward is illuminated by the successes we have witnessed. Together, we will continue to advocate for policies and actions that promote lasting peace, security, and development in Northern Nigeria.” |
The Arewa Joint Action Movement (AJAM), has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his recent appointments, which it says reflect fairness and inclusivity in the representation of the Northern region within the federal government. The group said action not only addresses the concerns raised by various stakeholders regarding regional representation but also underscores the President’s commitment to listening to constructive criticism and making necessary adjustments for the greater good of the nation. In a statement issued by Lauretta Bako, Convener of the group, AJAM commended the President for addressing longstanding concerns over regional imbalances in federal appointments, noting that the latest developments demonstrate Tinubu’s responsiveness to constructive criticism and his willingness to ensure that governance reflects Nigeria’s diverse makeup. Bako said: “In recent months, the discourse surrounding the need for equitable representation in federal appointments has intensified. Many voices from the North expressed apprehensions about perceived imbalances that could undermine the unity and cohesion of our great nation. “It is with great satisfaction that we now observe President Tinubu’s response to these concerns through a series of appointments that prioritize fairness and inclusivity. “The recent appointments made by President Tinubu are a clear indication of his administration's responsiveness to the aspirations of the Nigerian people. By ensuring that key positions are filled by capable individuals from the Northern region, the President has demonstrated a commitment to rectifying past imbalances that have long been a point of contention. “This move not only fosters a sense of belonging among the Northern populace but also reinforces the principle that every region of Nigeria deserves equitable representation in the federal structure. “Furthermore, these appointments should be seen as a testament to President Tinubu’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the citizenry. The ability to listen and adapt is a hallmark of effective leadership, and President Tinubu’s actions exemplify this quality. “By taking into account the feedback from various stakeholders and making adjustments accordingly, he has established a framework for a more inclusive governance model that prioritizes the interests of all Nigerians, regardless of their regional affiliations. “The Arewa Joint Action Movement believes that these appointments will not only enhance the effectiveness of governance but also serve to unite the country in the face of challenges that require collective action. “A government that reflects the diversity of its people is better equipped to address the multifaceted issues facing the nation. We are optimistic that these appointments will pave the way for enhanced collaboration and understanding among the various regions of Nigeria. “We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to fairness and inclusivity in his recent appointments. The Arewa Joint Action Movement stands ready to support initiatives that promote equitable representation and foster national unity. “We encourage the President to continue on this path of inclusivity and to remain open to constructive feedback from all quarters, as it is through such engagement that we can build a stronger, more united Nigeria.” |
Supporters of Mr. Peter Obi from Nigeria’s North-Central region, on Wednesday, issued a strong public statement urging the Labour Party presidential candidate to reject any offer to serve as Vice President on a proposed joint single-term ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The group, under the banner of North-Central Region of Nigeria Supporters for Mr. Peter Obi, raised serious ethical and political concerns about such an alliance, describing it as a threat to Obi’s credibility and the movement for a new Nigeria. In a statement signed by Chairman Bitrus Samuel and Secretary Murtala Ndagi, the group expressed deep unease over the implications of Obi partnering with Atiku, particularly in light of lingering corruption allegations surrounding the former Vice President. They further cited concerns over Atiku’s alleged financial misconduct abroad, especially in the United States, and his alleged links to terrorism financing, stating that such associations could pose reputational risks and jeopardize national security. “The North-Central region of Nigeria supporters for Mr. Peter Obi Group, feel compelled to address a matter of significant urgency and concern regarding the future of our nation and the political integrity of a leader we believe in. As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, we wish to caution Mr. Obi against accepting the offer of a vice-presidential role in a proposed joint single-term ticket with Atiku Abubakar. “Mr. Obi, your unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the upliftment of the Nigerian populace stands in stark contrast to the allegations and controversies surrounding Mr. Abubakar. Recent accusations against him, including the alleged diversion of over $100 million in public funds for personal gain, paint a troubling picture of a man whose political legacy is marred by corruption. “The Senate inquiry that has recommended his prosecution serves as a stark reminder of the ethical dilemmas that accompany his political alliances. Integrity is paramount in a nation striving for reform and renewal. “Your supporters view your integrity as a beacon of hope in a political landscape often characterized by greed and betrayal. Aligning yourself with a figure like Atiku Abubakar, whose past is rife with allegations of corruption and misconduct, risks tarnishing your own reputation and undermining the very principles that have drawn so many to your cause. “Moreover, the implications of such an alliance extend beyond personal reputation. It is essential to consider the potential fallout among your supporters, particularly in the North-Central region, where trust in political leaders has been severely eroded by years of mismanagement and corruption.” The group stressed their continued support for Obi as a symbol of hope, reform, and clean governance, urging him to remain true to the ideals that galvanized the Obidient Movement nationwide. They added, “Many of us have placed our faith in you as a leader who embodies the values of honesty and accountability. Accepting a vice-presidential role under Atiku’s banner could alienate your base, leaving us disillusioned and disheartened. “The relationship between Atiku Abubakar and the United States further complicates matters. His history of alleged financial misconduct, including the transfer of millions of dollars of suspect funds into the U.S., raises serious questions about his character and the implications of associating with him. “The allegations of terrorism sponsorship only serve to deepen our concerns. In a nation grappling with insecurity and the scourge of terrorism, the perception of a leader with such a checkered past could have dire consequences for our collective security and stability. “As supporters, we have witnessed the devastating impact of corruption on our communities. We have seen how it perpetuates poverty, stifles economic growth, and erodes the fabric of our society. We cannot, in good conscience, support a ticket that may inadvertently endorse a legacy of corruption and mismanagement. Our collective aspiration for a new Nigeria, one built on the tenets of good governance, must not be compromised. “We urge Mr. Obi to reflect on the long-term implications of this potential alliance. While the allure of power and political expediency may tempt him to accept the vice-presidential offer, we implore him to consider the broader picture. The path to true leadership is often fraught with difficult decisions, and it is essential to remain steadfast in the commitment to the principles that have guided him thus far.” |
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kings Flash Photography, Oluremi Olalere, has declared that choosing photography as a career is not a mistake, but a purposeful journey marked by determination and divine guidance. Speaking during the unveiling of the Kings Flash Photography studio in Abuja over the weekend, Olalere shared his personal story of resilience and triumph, while addressing journalists on the sidelines of the event. “Choosing photography is no mistake. You being a lawyer or a doctor doesn’t make you better than me. This is my career, that is yours. God can take you anywhere when you believe in what you are doing.” Olalere, who previously served as the personal photographer to former Liberian President George Weah, encouraged aspiring photographers to maintain focus despite challenges and societal perceptions. He recalled the difficult early days when he was forced to shut down his first studio in Suleja, Niger State, due to inability to pay rent. “A year later, I reopened, and that studio is still standing today,” he said. Defying critics who doubted his ability to succeed in Abuja, Olalere proudly declared: “People said I can’t live in Abuja. Today, I live in my own seven-bedroom house.” With a presence in both Nigeria and Liberia, Olalere has gone beyond photography to empower others, offering free training in Liberia. “People said they would take over. I said no. People stood before us, and people will stand after us,” he noted. He is also writing a book titled Determined Mind, a project he has worked on for seven years. He believes photography saved him during his university days, and he urges youths not to wait for government jobs or family support. “I don’t depend on anyone. I don’t even have games or movies on my phone. I just focus,” he said. Also speaking at the event, the company’s Director of Operations, Mosunmola Olalere, who holds a master’s degree in organic chemistry, said joining her husband’s business in 2018 changed her life. “When you marry a businessman, you must start thinking like one. He begged me to help with the business, and since then, God has been faithful and expanded us.” |
The Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council Worldwide, (NENYLCW), has urged South-South leaders to intervene in the rift between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. While expressing concern that the controversy had lingered for so long, the youth organization said it was time for leaders in the oil rich region to call both parties to order and resolve the conflict. In a statement signed by Comrade Terry Obieh - President General, Comrade Balarabe Rufai - Vice President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike - National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Zopmal - Organizing Secretary and Comrade Hamisu Muhammad Dass - Treasurer, NENYLCW NENYLCW’s intervention is coming months after Senator Natasha was suspended for allegedly flouting Senate’s rules, which came as she made sexual harassment allegation against the Senate President. The said having watched for months without sign of the controversy coming to an end soon: “we feel it is time South-South leaders stepped in and resolved this matter amicably. “We are not ignorant of the fact that there are multiple suits in court, but the fact remains that peace will not come as a result of judicial intervention, no matter which side the scale of justice swings. “This is why we beckon on eminent leaders, like former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Akwa Ibom governor, Obong Victor Bassey Attah, King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff, first Military Governor of Rivers State, the leadership of Pan Niger Delta Development Forum, PANDEF, among others, to rally round and resolve this conflict. We have no doubt that they have the capacity to bring it to a peaceful end. An elder does not sit at home and watch a tethered goat deliver. “For weeks now, Nigerians have been treated with all kinds of news materials from one party to the other; at this stage, we firmly believe that it is time for truce. “This is a dispute between two families that used to be together, dine and wine together. We are still optimistic that the broken fence can be mended through the intervention of these respected leaders. “They should not continue to sit on the fence while this matter continues to escalate; it doesn’t matter who is right or wrong at this point, what is important is for peace and harmony to be restored.” The organisation also appealed to both the Senator President and Senator Natasha to give peace a chance. “The good people of Kogi West have been denied quality representation from Senator Natasha ever since she was suspended, and this does not augur well at all. The few months she has spent in the Senate, her marks are already indelible, but regrettably, the constituents are no longer enjoying that quality representation owing to her suspension. “This is why we think, it is time for peace, it is time for truce. We urge both the Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha to reach a compromise and let peace reign,” NENYLCW appealed. |
The Coalition of Nigerian Youths has strongly criticized UK-based activist, Prof. Sandra Duru, following fresh allegations by Mr. Obinna Akudike from Imo State, who claimed she offered him a ₦2.5 million bribe to defame Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Akudike, who revealed he has known Duru for 15 years and had previously worked with her, alleged that she approached him during the Easter period with a proposal to launch a smear campaign against Senator Natasha. His confession comes just days after media personality Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya made similar claims. Reacting in a statement by its National President Abdul Mohammed Nasir, National Secretary Victoria Ademola, and National PRO Ibeh Columbus Ameachi, the Coalition described the unfolding scandal as both shameful and a growing national embarrassment. Ogbonnaya had earlier accused Duru, also known as Prof. Mgbeke, of orchestrating a coordinated blackmail campaign, allegedly involving doctored audio recordings and false claims of sexual harassment, aimed at tarnishing Senator Natasha’s reputation. He said: “The group said it was clear that Sandra was not acting alone, but as a hatchet job for the same people, who want Senator Natasha out of the way and want to silence her voice forever. “It is regrettable that ever since Senator Natasha made the sexual harassment allegation against Senator Akpabio, we have continued to witness all manner of embarrassing drama. “More worrisome is the fact that the entire scenario, which smacks of desperation to cover certain ills and silence Senator Natasha, is becoming a national embarrassment. Two persons have vocally come up to say that they were induced by Sandra Duru to blackmail Senator Natasha. “Our question is- why are we being treated to this level of desperation? Who are those orchestrating this national shame and embarrassment? Nigerians have had enough of this charade from Sandra and her sponsors and at this point, we urge security agencies to rise to the occasion. “This idea of sacred-cowing certain individuals in the society is highly condemnable; Sandra Duru should at this point be fished out from wherever she is and made to face the wrath of the law. “We also urge those using her to retrace their steps at this point; it is not late for them to toe the path of justice by recalling Senator Natasha and restoring all her privileges,” the group stated. The Coalition warned, “Karma is real. No matter how long it takes, injustice will always be repaid.” |
The Taraba Tiv People’s Association (TATIPA), Abuja chapter, raised alarm over the worsening humanitarian crisis facing Tiv communities in Taraba State, citing targeted killings, mass displacement, cultural erasure, and systemic marginalization. The association also lamented that despite historical acknowledgement by colonial authorities, Tiv traditional rulers have not been elevated to graded chiefdoms, unlike their counterparts in Wukari, Donga, and Takum, who have held First Class Chief titles for decades. The former Political Adviser to the Taraba State Government and TATIPA Board of Trustees member, Hon. Orbee Uchiv, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press briefing, described the plight of the Tiv people as “a tragedy enabled by institutional neglect and emboldened by political opportunism.” He appealed to both the federal and state governments, as well as the international community, to intervene before the Tiv people “are completely erased” from their ancestral homeland. Quoting historical figures and archival sources, Uchiv narrated centuries of coexistence and military cooperation between the Tiv and Jukun peoples, including joint resistance to Fulani jihadist incursions in the 19th century. He lamented that this once cordial relationship has been manipulated and weaponized by modern political actors, leading to repeated cycles of violence. Uchiv said: “On May 10, 2025, armed men suspected to be Jukun militia ambushed and killed several Tiv individuals en route to their farms at Tse-Bidi near Tor-Musa. Eight bodies were recovered, and several others remain missing. “Just four days earlier, on May 6, 2025, heavily armed men invaded Deke village near Ikyaior, shooting Mr. Mdue Ashu (who is currently hospitalized), burning 15 houses, and looting properties. “These attacks may be linked to community opposition to the proposed military barracks, including a peaceful demonstration by women of Ikyaior. “We also condemn the conduct of Mr. Angyu Yavini, who, on the day before the Deke attack, was seen harassing women on their farms and ordering them to vacate without justification. His actions are unconstitutional and unacceptable in any civil society.” He also condemned the cancellation of over 58 polling units in Tiv communities, effectively disenfranchising tens of thousands of eligible voters, particularly in Wukari LGA. He accused some security operatives of bias and complicity, claiming that displaced Tiv persons are being prevented from returning to their homes, while Jukun counterparts are resettled under security protection. Security outposts, the group noted, exist only in Jukun communities. Uchiv traced the most recent escalation to April 1, 2019, when renewed Jukun-Tiv hostilities erupted, triggering what TATIPA called an “avoidable conflict” that has devastated entire communities. He added, “In Wukari Local Government Area (LGA) alone, over 230 Tiv villages have been deserted, with similar scenes in Ibi (31 villages), Donga (20 villages), and Takum LGAs. More than 280,000 Tiv persons have reportedly been rendered homeless. “Our people are dying. Our children are out of school. Hunger and disease are rampant. The world must not stand by and watch people disappear,” the statement concluded.” In his remarks, the TATIPA official, Hon. Jacob Gbagede, insisted that Tiv people are not settlers in Taraba State but indigenous contributors to its development and political history. He said: “We were in Taraba long before the arrival of some other tribes. We must not be treated as strangers in our own land.” |
A South-West group, Afenifere Youth Stakeholders Forum, on Thursday, asked the Senate President, Godswill Akpabip to break his silence on his alleged connection with United Kingdom-based activist, Dr Sandra Duru. Recall that Sandra, popularly known as Prof Mgbeke has been in the news after she claimed that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan allegedly attempted to induce her with N200 million to falsely accuse former Akwa Ibom governor and now Senate President, Godswill Akpabio of organ harvesting. In the live video, she had also denied ever coming in contact with Senator Akpabio or holding any discussion with him. However, netizens later digged out a part of the video, which they alleged showed a phone call log involving Sandra and the Senate President. In a reaction to the controversy, the Yoruba group in a statement issued on Wednesday, signed by Kehinde Olatunde, National President, Bukola Esther, Secretary General and Duke Abimbola Publicity Secretary, said it was time the Senate President spoke on such an allegation. While expressing worry over the allegations, they stated that “We have waited for days expecting the office of the Senate President to speak out on his alleged conversation with Sandra Duru but that has not happened. “This is a worrisome situation considering the international dimension this matter has since assumed. There have been claims that Duru is a serial blackmailer, and we expect the Senate President to clear every doubt that he has nothing to do with such a person. “Nigerians would wish to know the truth about the call log, which was allegedly mistakenly projected during the live video session. “The youth group equally called on security agencies to beam their searchlight on Duru to investigate claims in several quarters that she was hiding under activism to defame and blackmail people. “The United States of America should not be a safe haven for such a character, who will even descend to the level of dragging former minister, Oby Ezekwesili into such a thing. “We urge the United States of America security to close in on her and investigate all her activities, which have all been put to question by the revelation coming out from her live video,” the group further stated. |
A group, Arewa Youths Progressive Assembly, on Tuesday, called on the United Kingdom to deport activist Dr Sandra Duru for constituting public nuisance. Their demand came amid controversy stoked by Duru when she claimed that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan allegedly attempted to induce her with N200 million to falsely accuse former Akwa Ibom governor and now Senate President, Godswill Akpabio of organ harvesting. In a statement, the group’s National President, Shuaibu Usman, and National Secretary, Abdul Kefas Gambo, noted that in her live video, Duru, popularly known as Prof Mgbeke, claimed she had no contact with Senator Akpabio. He said that fresh allegations have emerged suggesting that while scrolling through her phone contacts, her recent call log revealed communication with Senator Akpabio. Reacting to the developments, the youth group said Duru had become an embarrassment and should be deported by the UK authorities. The group said the alleged discovery of Akpabio’s call log on Duru’s phone proved that she is a serial blackmailer. Gambo said: “Such character should not be shielded by the United Kingdom. Apart from the now discovered baseless claims she made about Senator Natasha and her denial of having any contact with Senator Akpabio, she went as far as accusing well respected Mrs Oby Ezekwesili of engaging in bribery. “With the emerging facts, she should be hiding her face in shame, just like her enablers who have refused to stop at nothing to bring Senator Natasha down. “The United Kingdom, a decent country, should not be a safe haven for such characters, who are hiding under the banner of activism to spread falsehood and instigate chaos in the society.” |
The Junior Chamber International (JCI), a dynamic youth organization in Nigeria, has reaffirmed its belief that sports serve as a powerful tool to foster peace, unity, and positive relationships across the country. They also called on Nigerians to embrace initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence. JCI International President, Abdullahi Bala Attahiru, disclosed this in Abuja, during the 13th edition of its Baba and Yara Novelty Games, describing the games as a core element of the organization’s mission to build peaceful communities. The event, held at the hockey pitch of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, brought together participants from JCI chapters across the country for a day of friendly competition and intergenerational bonding. Under the bright skies, attendees engaged in football, tennis, and other sporting activities, creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie. He said: “This event was established to bring different generations together using sports to promote peace in society. For 13 years, we have seen continuous improvements, and today, we’re celebrating Workers’ Day harmoniously while advancing peace through sports. “In Nigeria today, there is no connection between the elders and the younger ones when it comes to mentorship. And this is one of the ways we bring everybody together to learn. As you can see, everybody is mixing and sports is a way to foster peace and good relationships in this country.” Attahiru emphasized the importance of partnerships in expanding the event’s reach, particularly with media, which plays a key role in broadcasting JCI’s message to a broader audience. In her remarks, chairperson of the 13th Baba and Yara Novelty Games, Muo Immaculate Odiro, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success. She said: “You can see the large turnout and the variety of games. We have had incredible support from partners like the Senate Press Office, My Health, Wellness, Vertuso, Buff & Co, and a dedicated medical team, all of whom have made this event a success.” Odiro, a trained dietician, expressed pride in the event’s growth over the years. “Each edition builds on the last. Today’s smooth execution and strong turnout reflect that progress,” she noted. JCI Aso’s 2025 President, Felix Akinyemi, stressed the importance of the event in bridging generational gaps. “This is more than a competition, it’s a platform for reconnecting the old and young, especially in a society where mentorship is often missing.” Akinyemi also used the opportunity to advocate for greater government investment in sports, citing its power to curb youth unemployment and unrest. He said: “Sports can uplift communities and take young people off the streets. With proper support, it can unlock careers in therapy, catering, fitness, and beyond, while fostering peace.” The Baba and Yara Games continue to stand as a beacon of social cohesion, aligning with JCI’s mission to empower young people to create positive change in their communities. |
By Sani Ahmed In Nigerian politics, the actions and statements of public officials can significantly influence public perception and governmental effectiveness. Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, exemplifies how certain traits—such as illiteracy, inexperience, arrogance, and blind ambition—can lead to political ridicule and undermine the credibility of an administration. His recent behavior, particularly his controversial sponsorship of dubious write-ups calling for emergency rule in Zamfara State, raises questions about his understanding of governance and the broader implications of his actions on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. Matawalle's conduct can be viewed through the lens of illiteracy and inexperience. While he may possess formal education, his repeated failure to engage with the complexities of Nigeria's security challenges suggests a lack of critical thinking and comprehension. His calls for emergency rule in Zamfara, a state grappling with insecurity, appear to disregard the broader context of Nigeria’s security situation, which includes states like Borno, Benue, Niger, and Plateau, where insecurity is equally, if not more, pronounced. This selective focus not only highlights a lack of understanding of the interrelated nature of security issues but also raises concerns about his ability to contribute meaningfully to national discourse. Matawalle's recent utterances reflect a degree of arrogance that undermines his position as a public servant. His insistence on emergency rule in Zamfara without acknowledging the plight of other states suffering from similar security challenges suggests an overestimation of his own insights and abilities. This arrogance can alienate constituents and fellow politicians alike, leading to ridicule and diminishing the credibility of the Tinubu administration. The political atmosphere is rife with examples where leaders' hubris has led to disastrous consequences; Matawalle's actions could be seen as part of this troubling trend. Matawalle’s ambition to elevate Zamfara’s status in the national security dialogue is commendable, yet it is marred by a lack of ethical consideration and awareness of the broader implications of his proposals. His sponsorship of dubious write-ups calling for emergency rule may stem from a desire to assert his influence within the federal government, but it also reflects a reckless disregard for the interconnected nature of Nigeria's security issues. This blind ambition can lead to misguided policies that do not address the root causes of insecurity, ultimately exacerbating the very problems he seeks to solve. The convergence of illiteracy, inexperience, arrogance, and blind ambition in Matawalle's conduct creates a chaotic political environment that undermines the Tinubu administration's credibility. His actions not only invite ridicule but also risk polarizing public opinion, as citizens may perceive the government as disconnected from the realities of their struggles. Furthermore, this chaos can stifle meaningful dialogue on security reforms, as attention shifts from collaborative solutions to the spectacle of political missteps. Moreover, when leaders like Matawalle prioritize personal ambition over collective welfare, the potential for progress is severely hindered. Resources may be wasted on initiatives that lack a solid foundation in reality, diverting attention from more pressing issues. The failure to address security holistically can lead to long-term damage to institutions and societal trust, further complicating Nigeria's already challenging political landscape. The people of Zamfara State must remain vigilant regarding their state's trajectory amidst ongoing developments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education. It is imperative that all segments of society—students, women, academics, business leaders, the Ulama, and the elderly—unite in support of their government, resisting any regression to the detrimental practices of the past under Matawalle's leadership. Emphasizing peace and reconciliation is essential for the state's advancement; such an approach not only fosters growth but also strengthens the relationship with the federal government. Furthermore, Matawalle should prioritize peace and reconciliation, fostering collaboration with the state government to ensure sustainable advancement for Zamfara State and its people. |
The Arewa Youth Vanguard (AYV), has recent calls by some unnamed groups for the imposition of emergency rule in Zamfara State, describing the demands as “misguided and dangerous.” The group alleges that these statements were orchestrated by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, in a bid to advance personal political ambitions. In a statement by its National Coordinator, Lawal Dantala Mani, the AYV warned against politicizing Nigeria’s security gains and accused Dr. Matawalle of undermining the very government he serves. The AYV emphasized that security governance in Nigeria remains the exclusive responsibility of the federal government, and it is therefore inappropriate for any senior defence official to suggest otherwise. Mani said: “It is evident that some individuals are weaponizing the successes of the Nigerian Defence Forces to further their ambitions, hoping to ascend to higher political positions without regard for the implications of their actions on the government they serve and the national security of our beloved country. “First and foremost, we challenge the writers of the statement to elucidate the precise authority over Nigeria's security assets. It is imperative to understand that the command and control of the Army, Police, and other security agencies fall solely under the purview of the federal government. “This fundamental structure of governance is enshrined in our constitution, and it is therefore, disconcerting for a high-ranking defence official casting doubt on the established framework that governs our national security. “Moreover, it raises critical questions as to why the statements believed to be sponsored by Dr. Matawalle, have chosen to single out Zamfara State in his calls for emergency rule while neglecting the pressing security challenges faced by other states such as Borno, Benue, Niger, and Plateau. “Is the plight of the people in Zamfara more significant than that of their compatriots in these states, who have endured similar or even more severe security threats? Such selective attention to regions in distress undermines the collective struggle of all Nigerians against insecurity and sends a troubling message about the motives behind these calls. “It is worth noting that the narrative surrounding security in Nigeria is not as bleak as some would have us believe. The recent improvements in security across many parts of Northern Nigeria, including the Kaduna-Abuja highway, where citizens can now travel without the paralyzing fear that once gripped them, is a testament to the efforts of our security forces. “These achievements should be acknowledged and celebrated rather than undermined by calls for emergency measures that could further destabilize the region. “The actions raise serious concerns about the credibility and integrity of the government he serves. It is curious that a Minister of State for Defence would undermine the very government that appointed him. Such behavior not only erodes public trust but also jeopardizes the collective efforts being made to combat insecurity in our nation.” Highlighting improvements in national security, the AYV pointed to recent successes such as increased safety along the Kaduna-Abuja highway as evidence of progress. It warned that calls for emergency rule threaten to destabilize the region and discredit the achievements of Nigeria’s security forces. He said: “The statements raise alarms about the potential for political opportunism, especially when set against the backdrop of the broader security challenges faced by several states across the nation. “We must sound a warning regarding the dangers of appointing individuals who lack the requisite competence and experience to serve in critical roles within our government. When individuals are driven by greed for power and excessive ambition, they risk undermining the very institutions they are meant to protect and serve. “This is particularly troubling in the context of national security, where the stakes are incredibly high, and the consequences of mismanagement can be dire. The AYV urges the government to be vigilant in its appointments, ensuring that those who hold positions of authority are not only qualified but also committed to the welfare of the nation. “In light of this, the AYV calls upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, and the Defence Ministry to take immediate steps to restore law and order in the state. “Such actions must be accompanied by a thorough investigation into the allegations of the involvement of top government appointees in the misinformation and manipulation that threaten the integrity of our security forces.” |
The Northern Democratic Movement (NDM) has strongly condemned the recent call by the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) and its leader, Yerima Shettima, for a state of emergency in Zamfara State, describing it as inflammatory, baseless, and an act of political desperation. In a scathing statement released on Wednesday, NDM Convener Hon. Ibrahim Sule Sarki accused Shettima of seeking political relevance through reckless commentary rather than genuine engagement with the challenges facing Northern Nigeria. “The call for a state of emergency in Zamfara is not only misguided but a calculated move to destabilize a democratically elected government,” Sarki said. “Shettima’s AYCF lacks grassroots legitimacy, structure, or moral authority. It is a one-man outfit used to audition for political patronage from failed power brokers.” The NDM alleged that Shettima is being used as a proxy by a former Zamfara governor who “depleted the state’s resources” and failed to address insecurity during his tenure. According to Sarki, this individual is now using Shettima to distract the current administration led by Governor Dauda Lawal Dare, who is making “measurable progress” in restoring peace. “While genuine Northern leaders are on the ground engaging communities and supporting security operations, Shettima issues incendiary statements from the comfort of Lagos, far removed from the realities of Zamfara,” Sarki stated. Highlighting the achievements of Governor Dare’s administration, the NDM praised initiatives such as the revitalization of community vigilance groups, cooperation with federal security forces, and socio-economic programs aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity. The group challenged Shettima to publicly disclose when he last visited Zamfara or engaged with affected communities. It also questioned the AYCF’s contributions to peacebuilding, accusing Shettima of turning a blind eye to corrupt federal actors and external sponsors of banditry. “Shettima represents nobody but himself. His sudden concern for Zamfara reeks of a paid agenda and a desperate attempt to remain politically relevant,” Sarki added. The NDM called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to ignore Shettima’s “antics” and instead focus on strengthening support for Governor Dare’s administration and the security architecture in Zamfara State. “Zamfara deserves solidarity, not sabotage. The people of the North are rebuilding quietly—we don’t need headline-chasing charlatans weaponizing our pain for personal gain,” the statement concluded. Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has faulted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over the arrest of businesswoman Aisha Achimugu at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, saying it disobedience to court order. Her lawyer, Chief Chikaosolu Ojukwu, who confirmed her arrest, criticised the EFCC’s action, describing it as a violation of a court order. Ojukwu said: “Aisha Achimugu, who arrived voluntarily into the country from London, was arrested by the EFCC around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. “In light of what transpired in court on Monday, my client returned based on the undertaking before the court to honour the EFCC’s invitation, but was arrested at the airport." Reacting, in a statement, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, described the arrest as an affront on the judiciary. Okwu said it was strange that someone who returned to the country in line with her own averments before the court could be whisked away in such a manner. He stressed that, “We had thought that the EFCC has stopped such action but this manner of arrest speaks volumes. From every record available, Aisha Achimugu filed an affidavit in court to voluntarily report to the EFCC today, Tuesday, then appear in court tomorrow, Wednesday. “It is then strange that having returned to the country on her own volition, the EFCC had to swoop on her at the airport despite the subsisting court order. This confirms our earlier fears that her trial is political and is totally unfortunate. We urge the EFCC to respect the sanctity of the rule of law by releasing her.” Okwu urged the commission to resist the temptation of being used by politicians to fight perceived political enemies. |
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), on Friday, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address what it describes as a pattern of lopsided federal appointments, which it says favor the South-West region at the expense of Nigeria’s diversity and constitutional order. The NEF demanded the immediate disbandment of the census committee, citing its unclear mandate and the alleged usurpation of roles by unauthorized officials during its inauguration. In a statement by its spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, the forum accused the Tinubu-led administration of pursuing a regional and sectional agenda since assuming office in May 2023, warning that such a trend threatens Nigeria’s democratic fabric and national unity. He also called for a comprehensive review of all federal appointments made so far, as well as future appointments, to ensure equitable representation across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. Jiddere said: “NEF has observed with much dismay and regret, that since its coming to office, this administration has created some anomalies in the philosophy of governance which is characterized by arbitrary disdain for public opinion, a sense of impunity and lack of accountability to the norms of democratic governance which is reflected essentially in the respect for constitutionalism, rule of law and due process. “This being the case, NEF finds it necessary to remind the government and the Nigerian public that Nigeria's federal system is predicted on two principles - constitutionalism and inclusiveness. “Our democracy is underpinned by the Federal Character Principle which is enshrined in our constitution. Therefore, all appointments into federal offices and the citing of federal projects must be predicated on these provisions and time honoured practices of government. “Our democracy recognizes the diversity and spread of our nation consisting of various ethnic and linguistic groups, regions and religious persuasions. “As such, every appointment made by the president of this country should take these diversities into account. Our democracy is also underpinned by a social contract between the state and the people which is essentially what Chapter 2 of the 1999 Constitution stipulates.” The forum condemned what it described as a disregard for public opinion, due process, and the Federal Character Principle enshrined in Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution. This constitutional provision mandates inclusiveness in government appointments and representation to promote national unity and prevent dominance by any group. NEF particularly criticized the composition of the recently inaugurated National Census Committee, calling it "grossly and blatantly lopsided in favour of the South-West," and warned that its structure undermines the credibility of an exercise as sensitive as a national census. Warning of potential instability if the status quo persists, the forum stressed that “continued disregard for the principles of equity, justice, and inclusivity threatens the very fabric of Nigeria’s unity.” The Forum further reminded the Tinubu administration that its electoral victory in 2023 was made possible by nationwide support, with the North contributing the largest share of votes, adding that, “This should be a guiding principle, not a license to alienate other regions. “From the foregoing, NEF calls for a holistic review and equitable redistribution of all federal appointments so far made in all the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to reflect true national diversity and constitutional compliance. “It also calls for a more equitable and judicious allocation of all appointments to be made by the administration in future. The NEF warns that the continued disregard of the principles of equity, justice, and inclusivity threatens the very fabric of Nigeria’s unity. “The sustained marginalization of certain regions breeds resentment, deepens divisions, and could fuel avoidable instability in the country and also undermine our democracy. “Nigeria is a diverse nation bound by a common destiny. Preserving its unity requires leadership that is fair, inclusive, and guided by the rule of law and respect for the provisions of the constitution of our country.” Calling on the National Assembly, particularly the Senate, to fulfill its constitutional oversight role, the NEF urged lawmakers to ensure the executive arm of government complies with the rule of law and upholds the spirit of federalism. |
The Sir David Osunde Foundation (SDOF), has said that His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Abuja, and His Grace, Ignatius Kaigama, Archbishop of Abuja, will preside over its 33rd annual Thanksgiving celebration for persons with disabilities. They also revealed that this year’s event will be held simultaneously in Abuja and Benin City, Edo State, a strategic move aimed at easing travel for participants by offering venues in both the northern and southern regions of Nigeria. The chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Barrister Ikem Uchegbulam, disclosed this in Abuja, during a pre-press briefing ahead of the event scheduled to take place this Easter Monday. The annual gathering is a core part of the Foundation’s mission to honour and empower Nigerians living with disabilities, with thousands of guests expected at both locations, marking a significant return to Benin City, which last hosted the event 19 years ago. Uchegbulam explains that Cardinal Onaiyekan will officiate the Thanksgiving Mass in Benin City, where he is also expected to formally declare the Foundation’s annual activities open. At the same time, Archbishop Kaigama will lead the Mass in Abuja. He noted that the event features not only spiritual reflection but also a robust empowerment programme, including the distribution of assistive devices and other support tools for individuals across the country. Uchegbulam said: “The medical outreach and empowerment programme are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Participants will gain valuable health knowledge and learn practical skills to help them earn a living using their hands and minds. After the Thanksgiving Mass, a reception will follow at both venues, featuring entertainment from invited music bands. “Sir Edmond Akhigbe, a prominent Catholic and Chairman/CEO of Edmond Rooms and Suites, Asaba, will chair the Benin City reception. In Abuja, the event will be chaired by Sir Steve Adehi, SAN, President of the Association of Papal Knights and Medalists of Nigeria.” Programme Manager Officer of SDOF, Anuniru Emmanuel, praised the Foundation’s sustained commitment to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities. He said: “We distribute items through our state coordinators and ensure proper follow-up through video and pictorial documentation." He cited a case in Akwa Ibom where a man with a physical disability received a tricycle from Abuja. A video showed him using the tricycle to fetch and transport water from a borehole, an inspiring example of how the Foundation promotes independence and dignity. |
As Christians around the world mark Easter, a season symbolizing the triumph of hope, love, and renewal, on Sunday, the Founder of the Motivating African Youths Initiative (MAY-I), Dr. Ogenna Walter Ekwubiri, has called on Nigerians to embrace the spirit of selfless service and purpose-driven living. The foundation also urged Nigerians to go beyond festivities this Easter by embodying the values of compassion and leadership in their daily lives. In a heartfelt Easter message, Dr. Ekwubiri reflected on the significance of the season, describing it not merely as a time of celebration, but as a powerful reminder and call to action. “Easter is not just a season, it is a call. A call to rise above fear, to extend love even when it is inconvenient, and to believe in the beauty of new possibilities. In a world still healing, still hungry for compassion and justice, we are all called to be light bearers and hope bringers. “At Motivating African Youths Initiative (MAY-I), we believe that every act of kindness, no matter how small, is a seed for transformation. We have seen the strength of widows rising, the courage of young people daring to dream, and the power of communities coming together to care. “This Easter, I invite you to go beyond the celebration—choose to be the miracle someone else is praying for. Lift someone. Feed someone. Believe in someone. Lead with love and walk with purpose. “From all of us at MAY-I, we wish you a blessed and joyful Easter. May it ignite in you the courage to live fully, serve selflessly, and lead boldly.” The message comes at a time when many are grappling with economic hardship and social challenges, making the call for unity, compassion, and action more timely than ever. |
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has condemned in strong terms the recent spate of killings in Plateau State, describing them as senseless and unacceptable. The group called on the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive action to stop the violence and bring those responsible to justice. In a statement, the National Coordinator of the CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, expressed deep outrage over the killings that have claimed more than 100 lives, razed communities, and displaced hundreds in Plateau’s Bokkos and Bassa local government areas. The CNG also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the country, describing his continued stay in France as “extravagant holidaying” at a time of national crisis. “It is a case of Nero fiddling while Rome burns.” Charanchi said: “These killings are not isolated. They are part of a broader resurgence of violence across the North, including terrorist attacks by Boko Haram in the North-East, banditry in the North-West, and ethno-religious clashes in the North-Central. The government’s tepid response has emboldened killers, leaving citizens to question its commitment to their safety. . “For years, our communities have endured unending cycles of violence while the government issues hollow condolences and empty promises. The blood of Nigerians is not cheap. We reject the normalization of these tragedies and demand accountability through result-oriented action. “The CNG demands that the President halts his extravagant holiday in France in the face of the massacre of his citizens whose resources he is utilizing insatiably to return to confront the problem head-on. It is a case of Nero fiddling while Rome is burning. “We demand that reinforced security forces be deployed at all flashpoints in Plateau to protect civilians. The government must adopt brutal efficiency in dismantling terror networks. “We demand that all perpetrators be arrested and prosecuted, including sponsors of these attacks. The era of impunity must end immediately and permanently. Nigeria’s security framework must be overhauled to prioritize intelligence-driven operations, community engagement, and collaboration with locals." The coalition demand that our armed forces launch sustained military offensives to crush the monstrous killers in Plateau, bandits in the Sokoto-Katsina-Zamfara axis and the regrouping terrorists in the North-East. “We are tired of burying our children, mothers, and elders while the government looks the other way. Plateau’s agony is Nigeria’s shame. If the government cannot protect its people, it has no legitimacy. We charge President Tinubu to rise beyond rhetoric and act with the urgency this crisis demands. Enough of this nonsense!” The CNG warned that continued inaction could erode public trust and further destabilize the region. It also urged Northerners to unite across ethnic and religious lines to resist the divisions sown by violence and to hold leaders accountable. The group also called on civil society, traditional rulers, and international partners to pressure the Nigerian government until real results are achieved. The CNG warns that continued inaction risks further destabilizing the region and emboldening terrorists while eroding public trust. |
The Arewa Joint Action Movement (AJAM) has thrown its weight behind the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, led by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, to dissociate from what it described as "opportunistic office seekers" including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai. AJAM stressed that Nigeria’s political terrain must be guided by integrity and purpose, not by a desire for power at all costs. In a statement by the Coordinator of AJAM, Barnabas Musa, noted that Nigeria’s political terrain must be guided by integrity and purpose, not by a desire for power at all costs. Musa, described the PDP governors' position as a “bold and commendable step” toward safeguarding Nigeria’s political integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections. He criticized the political maneuverings of those he called “transient political actors” within the opposition coalition, accusing them of chasing personal gain rather than national progress. He said: “The members of the opposition alliance, characterized by their transient political ambitions, have consistently shown themselves to be more concerned with personal gain than with the needs and aspirations of the common man. “The Arewa Joint Action Movement firmly believes that the political landscape should be navigated with integrity and purpose. Unfortunately, the individuals in this opposition coalition have proven to be nothing more than political opportunists and job seekers, feeding off the goodwill of the populace while offering little more than empty promises and deceptive rhetoric. “Their dubious political agendas are not rooted in the genuine desire to uplift our communities or address the pressing issues facing our nation, but rather in a quest for power and influence at any cost. “As we look ahead to the 2027 presidential elections, it is imperative that we remain vigilant against those who seek to destabilize our country for their own gain. The electorate has grown increasingly discerning, and we are confident that they will reject any attempts by these opportunists to manipulate their hopes and aspirations. “The Nigerian people deserve leaders who prioritize their welfare and work tirelessly to create a brighter future for all citizens, rather than those who exploit their struggles for political leverage. “We commend Governor Bala Mohammed and the PDP Governors Forum for their principled stance and urge them to continue advocating for policies that enhance the lives of our people. “The Arewa Joint Action Movement stands ready to support initiatives that promote unity, progress, and genuine democratic values. Together, we can build a Nigeria that reflects the hopes and dreams of its citizens, free from the shackles of political opportunism.” The group also called on citizens to reject “the politics of deception and self-interest” and unite for a just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria. |
By Saminu Hadi In Nigerian politics, few figures are as emblematic of ambition and controversy as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai. Their recent political maneuvers suggest a desperate quest for power and ascendancy, yet they appear to be operating under a delusion that traditional political strategies will suffice in a rapidly changing political situation. Atiku Abubakar has long been a dominant figure in Nigerian politics, having served as Vice President from 1999 to 2007 and being a perennial presidential candidate. His affiliation with the PDP has been a cornerstone of his political identity. However, his recent actions raise questions about his loyalty to the party that has significantly shaped his political career. By aligning himself with El-Rufai, a figure known for his controversial governance and polarizing rhetoric, Atiku appears to be engaging in a risky gamble that could alienate his base and undermine his remaining strands of integrity. The question arises: how can Atiku expect to maintain public support while simultaneously betraying the very party that has been instrumental in his political ascendance? The political atmosphere in Nigeria is currently marked by a burgeoning consciousness among the electorate. Citizens are increasingly aware of the dynamics of power and are less willing to accept the traditional methods of manipulation and deception that have characterized Atiku’s politics for decades. Atiku and El-Rufai seem oblivious to this shift, clinging to outdated strategies that may have worked in the past but are now met with skepticism and resistance. The Nigerian public is no longer content to be mere spectators in the political arena; they demand accountability, transparency, and genuine representation. In this context, the duo's attempts to undermine the PDP could be perceived as an affront to the democratic ideals that many Nigerians are beginning to embrace. Moreover, the relationship between Atiku and El-Rufai raises concerns about the future of the PDP. Their collaboration appears aimed at consolidating power at the expense of a functioning political party that has played a significant role in Nigeria's democratic journey. Such actions could lead to fragmentation within the party and alienate loyal members who have invested their time and resources into building the PDP. The notion that they can "kill" a major political party and emerge unscathed is not only naïve but also indicative of a fundamental misunderstanding of the political currents shaping Nigeria today. The Nigerian electorate is increasingly discerning, and they are beginning to demand more than just promises and rhetoric. They are looking for leaders who genuinely represent their interests and who are committed to addressing the pressing challenges facing the nation. Atiku and El-Rufai's apparent disregard for the foundational values of the PDP and their willingness to engage in power plays could lead to a backlash from the electorate. In a political landscape where trust and credibility are paramount, their actions may very well be perceived as self-serving rather than in the best interest of the Nigerian people. The Nigerian public is becoming increasingly conscious of the actions and motives of their political leaders. They are demanding accountability, transparency, and integrity from those who seek to represent them. Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai's desperate pursuit of power, without regard for the concerns and aspirations of the Nigerian people, could lead to their alienation and irrelevance within the political system. As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, leaders must adapt to the changing sentiments of the electorate. They must listen to the voices of the people and address their concerns in order to remain relevant and effective. Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai would do well to heed this advice if they wish to succeed in their political ambitions. The era of deception in Nigerian politics may be waning, and those who cling to outdated strategies may soon find themselves on the wrong side of history. |
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has condemned the persistent and brutal killings in Plateau State, describing the situation as a national disgrace and a stark reflection of the Federal Government’s failure to protect lives and property. The elder said that the Plateau state, which was once known for its unity, peace, and cultural diversity, has now become a theatre of bloodshed and lawlessness. In a statement, NEF Spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, expressed outrage at the magnitude of violence inflicted on innocent citizens, warning that the Federal Government’s silence and inaction can no longer be tolerated. “It is unacceptable that such acts of mass murder and destruction continue unabated, with little to no meaningful response from those charged with safeguarding the nation,” Jiddere said. He called for the immediate and large-scale deployment of well-equipped security forces to Plateau State to halt the violence and restore law and order. He said: “The silence and inaction of the Federal Government can no longer be tolerated. NEF demands the immediate and massive deployment of well-equipped security forces to Plateau State to halt these atrocities and restore order. “The government must not only apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators but must do so swiftly and decisively. The blood of innocent Nigerians cries out for justice, and there must be no sanctuary for those who orchestrate or enable these horrors. “We further demand that the Federal Government provide adequate compensation to victims and affected communities who have suffered unimaginable loss. An independent investigative panel must be established without delay, and its findings must be made public to ensure accountability and prevent further bloodshed. “The Northern Elders Forum stands in full solidarity with the people of Plateau State and all affected regions. The South-South Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Amalgamation, has launched a scathing attack on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, describing their recent political alliance as a desperate move by “irresponsible political jobbers” seeking personal relevance. In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the group’s convener, John Albert Clarkson, said the coalition between the two political heavyweights lacked credibility and integrity, accusing them of being inconsistent and self-serving throughout their careers. Clarkson said: We wholeheartedly support the bold and principled stance taken by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who have rejected this ill-conceived coalition. “Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai have long been figures in Nigerian politics who have made promises and declarations that often fail to materialize. Their political journeys are marked by a series of contradictions that have left many Nigerians disillusioned. “Atiku, once a stalwart of the PDP, has oscillated between parties in pursuit of power, demonstrating a lack of commitment to the very ideals he professes to uphold. “Similarly, El-Rufai, who has often positioned himself as a reformist, has been embroiled in controversies that undermine his credibility. Their recent coalition reeks of desperation, a last-ditch effort to regain relevance by political opportunists and job seekers in a political environment that is increasingly rejecting their brand of politics. “The actions of the PDP Governors Forum serve as a beacon of hope in these turbulent times. By rejecting the coalition, the Forum has sent a strong message that the PDP remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of Nigerians. “Under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, the Governors Forum has demonstrated that it prioritizes the needs of the people over personal ambitions. This is a refreshing departure from the self-serving politics that have plagued our nation for far too long. “The current political climate in Nigeria demands a credible and dependable platform that can navigate the complexities of governance and deliver tangible results. The PDP, under the stewardship of its dedicated leaders, has proven to be that platform. “The rejection of the Atiku-El-Rufai desperation is not merely a political maneuver; it is a declaration of intent to uphold the values of integrity, accountability, and service to the Nigerian populace. We believe that the PDP is now positioned to lead Nigeria through its limitations, offering a path toward sustainable development and genuine progress.” He called on Nigerians to join the PDP in what he described as a new era of integrity and public service, declaring the Atiku-El-Rufai coalition as “a last-ditch effort by political opportunists to regain relevance in a climate that is increasingly rejecting their brand of politics.” He added, “The time has come for us to rally around a party that demonstrates a genuine commitment to the people, a party that is willing to listen, to learn, and to lead with integrity. The South-South Youth Amalgamation stands firm in its condemnation of the desperate opportunism by Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai. “We commend the PDP Governors Forum for their courageous stance and reiterate our belief that the PDP is the only credible platform capable of steering Nigeria toward a brighter future. Together, let us unite under the banner of the PDP and work towards a Nigeria that reflects the aspirations and dreams of all its citizens." |
The National Orientation Agency (NOA), has raised concerns over unethical practices uncovered in the disbursement of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme by some tertiary institutions. According to the latest report by the Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers (COMO), of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), schools and banks are conspiring to short-change the students. Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, disclosed the findings after a weekend meeting with the Managing Director of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr. In a statement issued by the agency’s Deputy Director of Communications and Media, Mr. Paul Odenyi, initial reports indicated that some university officials have been withholding vital information about loan disbursements, prompting swift action from NELFUND. The NOA's feedback shows how specific institutions have, in connivance with some banks, deliberately delayed payments to successful student applicants for personal financial benefit. Some universities fail to acknowledge the NELFUND’s disbursements to the students. Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr confirmed that some institutions are failing to inform students about loan disbursements made in their name while still requiring them to pay tuition fees. He stated, “Recent findings by NELFUND have shown that some institutions have received student loan disbursements directly into their accounts yet neglect to inform the affected students or record the payments in their financial records, leading to unnecessary confusion. “Withholding critical financial information from students is not only unethical but also a breach of the principles on which NELFUND was founded. We are prepared to take legal action against any institution engaged in such deceptive practices.” In response, Mallam Issa-Onilu has issued a strong warning to these institutions and collaborating banks to cease such activities. NOA has directed its state directorates to provide further feedback from students across the country to ensure that the Federal Government takes appropriate actions against erring schools and banks. |
The Northern Conscience Movement (NCM) on Saturday, voiced strong reservations over what it described as a perplexing shift in political alignment by former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, particularly his recent public praise for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The NCM called on Nigerians, particularly younger citizens, to critically examine these political dynamics and reject the culture of opportunism that has come to define the nation’s politics. In a statement, NCM Coordinator, Lawal Nuhu Ahmed, criticized El-Rufai’s apparent U-turn, highlighting his past scathing criticisms of Atiku, whom he once labeled a “liar,” obsessed with power and “haunted by his corruption demon.” Ahmed said: “In the past, El-Rufai did not mince words when it came to his criticisms of Abubakar. He labeled him a "liar" and accused him of harboring an "obsession for power," as well as being "haunted by his corruption demon. “These statements were not mere political jabs; they were grounded in serious allegations that have followed Abubakar throughout his political career. El-Rufai's previous assertions about Abubakar's supposed involvement in financial misconduct and his controversial history, which allegedly led to his barring from the United States, were serious charges that resonated with many Nigerians. “Yet, in a striking turn of events, El-Rufai's recent overtures of admiration towards Abubakar raise questions about the authenticity of his convictions. “This shift is particularly alarming given the backdrop of El-Rufai's own political challenges, including his fallout with President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him as a minister but later saw his nomination thwarted by the Senate. Such circumstances suggest that El-Rufai may be recalibrating his political alliances out of necessity rather than genuine respect or camaraderie.” The NCM also recalled El-Rufai’s memo to former President Muhammadu Buhari, in which he criticized the APC leadership, highlighted the ailing economy, and pointed to the growing internal disunity within the ruling party. He highlighted the ailing economy, the lack of cohesion within the party, and the deteriorating relationship between the president and other party leaders. While these observations may hold merit, the timing and context of his newfound admiration for Abubakar and Buhari appear to be driven more by political expediency than a sincere change of heart. He said: “Atiku Abubakar's recent overtures towards President Muhammadu Buhari, despite his previous allegations of Buhari's involvement in the smuggling of looted funds, underscore a complex and perhaps contradictory political maneuvering. “Abubakar's recollection of the 1984 incident, where he, as the head of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Command, intercepted 53 suitcases allegedly linked to Buhari's aide—serves as a critical reminder of the historical context that shapes contemporary political narratives. “Young Nigerians, particularly Millennials, may benefit from revisiting this episode to understand the deep-seated issues of corruption that continue to plague their nation. “Abubakar's assertion that Buhari's administration has exacerbated corruption, thereby undermining efforts against terrorism in the Northeast, raises pertinent questions about accountability and governance. Ultimately, the juxtaposition of past actions and current alliances reveals a troubling paradox in Nigerian politics, where the line between accountability and opportunism often blurs, leaving citizens to discern the truth amidst a cacophony of conflicting narratives. “The Northern Conscience Movement critiques the recent engagement between Elrufai and prominent PDP figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Aminu Tambuwal, in their outreach to President Buhari under the guise of unifying against President Tinubu for the 2027 elections. “This maneuver is perceived as disingenuous, undermining the integrity of political discourse in the region. Furthermore, the Movement expresses concern over Buhari's receptiveness to this coalition, deeming it insensitive given the prevailing political tensions. Such actions may exacerbate divisions rather than foster genuine collaboration, highlighting the complexities of Northern Nigerian politics in an increasingly polarized landscape. “The NCM believes that such political maneuvering undermines the principles of transparency and accountability that are desperately needed in Nigeria. “The evolution of El-Rufai's rhetoric illustrates how personal interests can eclipse previously held convictions, leading to alliances that many would deem improbable. This phenomenon is not unique to El-Rufai; it is symptomatic of a broader trend in Nigerian politics, where ideological consistency is frequently sacrificed at the altar of power and influence.” The NCM cautioned against interpreting El-Rufai’s newfound admiration for Atiku and Buhari as a sign of genuine reconciliation. Rather, the group argued, it appears to be a strategic move aimed at repositioning himself favorably within the political landscape. He further said: “By extending an olive branch to Abubakar and Buhari, El-Rufai may be signaling a willingness to collaborate with former rivals in pursuit of shared goals, but it is imperative that Nigerians remain vigilant against such opportunistic alliances. “As the Northern Conscience Movement, we advocate for a political culture that values integrity, accountability, and genuine dedication to the welfare of the Nigerian people. We call upon all political actors, including El-Rufai, to prioritize the interests of the nation over personal ambitions. The people of Nigeria deserve leaders who are consistent in their values and steadfast in their commitment to the greater good.” The NCM also encouraged Nigerians to stay engaged and critical in their assessment of political developments. “Only through active participation and scrutiny can we build a political environment that truly reflects the will and aspirations of the people.” |
The Nigeria Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Council Worldwide, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for sacking Mele Kyari, the Chief Executive Officer and GMD of Nigerian National Petroleum Company, Limited, NNPCL, Mele Kyari. The organisation in a statement by its President General, Comrade Terry Obieh, and National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said it was in line with its age-long demand that Kyari and his team should go. It could be recalled that the youth organisation had severally mounted pressure on the President to sack Kyari, citing alleged lack of transparency in NNPCL dealings. Reacting to President Tinubu’s decision, the youths said Kyari’s removal would pave the way for a total scrutiny and auditing of the NNPCL’s financial standings and obligations. The group said in the statement that “there are undoubtedly all manner of skirmishes and cover-ups within the NNPCL, to the point that even the crude yet to be produced has been mortgaged. “The acclaimed fixing of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries are also another avenue the Kyari-led Board deceived Nigerians as there appears to be nothing serious happening in those locations. “Although belated, we thank Mr President that at last Kyari has been shown the exit door in the interest of the country. The next step is a total audit of the NNPCL by an external body. Nothing and nobody should be spared in this probe.” The group, however, urged the new NNPCL helmsman, Engr Bayo Ojulari' to dedicate himself to the total service of Nigerians. “You should make NNPCL work for Nigerians; initiate reforms that will turn around the fortune of the corporation. With your experience and track record in the oil industry, we have no doubt that your coming on board will bring stability in the sector, which will translate to cheaper fuel for Nigerians,” the group enthused. |
The Kogi State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has defended prominent philanthropist and socialite, Dr. Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, OFR, following her recent declaration as wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), describing her as a respected personality and a global brand. In a statement by the Coordinator of the organisation in Kogi State, Mr Chris Ogbonna, the youths described Achimugu as a highly respected individual and a global brand who has made significant contributions to society. Ogbonna emphasized that Dr. Achimugu is recognized in Igboland, having been conferred with a chieftaincy title in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, a recognition that reflects her selfless service to humanity. He said the title, which was bestowed on Mrs Achimugu, came after a painstaking observation of her personality and unquantifiable dedication to the service of humanity. Ogbonna said: “This is why we were taken aback when we read that she was declared wanted by the EFCC. At first, we had thought it could be a case of mistaken identity, but the commission is yet to withdraw the wanted tag placed on her. “Based on this, we have considered it most expedient to lend our voice to this development, by urging the EFCC to reconsider its stand on the matter. “Mrs Achimugu is someone well respected and who has devoted her life to the service of humanity, an act that earned her a chieftaincy title in Igboland, Udi local government area in Enugu State to be precise. “For her to have been given the title came after thorough checks on her personality and she was not in any way found wanting, rather testimonies abound of her hardwork and dedication to the service of humanity.” The Igbo group urged the anti-graft commission to re-evaluate what led to its decision, adding that, “This is necessary to avoid mistakenly hurting the image and personality of a global brand, Dr. Mrs Achimugu.” |

The Kaduna Solidarity Vanguard, has expressed strong reservations over the recent resignation of Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as Special Adviser on Politics to Vice President Kashim Shettima, describing the move as politically opportunistic and self-serving. The group accused Baba-Ahmed of leveraging public trust for personal advancement, describing his political choices as an attempt to manipulate public sentiment rather than engage in genuine service. In a statement by its Chairman, Lawal Tanimu, the group said Baba-Ahmed’s resignation reveals a deeper political narrative that should not be ignored by the public. He said that Baba-Ahmed’s resignation reveals a deeper political narrative that should not be overlooked. Tanimu said: “Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed's recent political maneuvering raises significant concerns regarding the gullibility of the northern populace. His decision to align with the government post-elections, despite a history of neglecting the region's challenges, including critical tax reforms, suggests a troubling disregard for the electorate's discernment. “This opportunistic shift, perceived as an attempt to manipulate public sentiment, undermines the integrity of political engagement. The northern people, having endured substantial hardships, deserve leaders who genuinely advocate for their interests rather than those who seek to exploit their trust for personal gain. Such deception will inevitably be met with resistance. “Dr. Baba-Ahmed's tenure in office has been characterized by a series of antics that have now been thoroughly exposed. His resignation is not a principled stand or an act of integrity; rather, it is a calculated move by an individual who has consistently prioritized personal gain over the interests of the people he claims to represent. “It is evident that his initial acceptance of the appointment was driven by the allure of financial rewards, rather than a genuine commitment to serving the Nigerian populace. “It is important to highlight that Dr. Baba-Ahmed’s departure comes on the heels of a realization that the Vice President himself has been sidelined in the current political landscape. “With a budget allocation of only Naira 36 billion to the office, it became clear that the environment was not conducive for his aspirations. Faced with these constraints, Dr. Baba-Ahmed chose to abandon his post, opting instead to return to the public sphere as an activist. “We must question his motives: is he truly committed to the cause of the people, or is he merely seeking to continue his pattern of deception among the gullible segments of our population?” The group called on Northerners to question the motives behind Baba-Ahmed’s resignation and reemergence in the public discourse. He said: “His brand of politics, which thrives on manipulation and self-interest, has no place in the North. We must reject the notion that individuals who have shown a willingness to exploit their positions for personal gain can be trusted to advocate for our communities. “As we navigate the complexities of our political landscape, let us remember that true activism is rooted in authenticity and a profound commitment to the welfare of the people. We must hold our leaders accountable and ensure that those who seek to represent us do so with integrity and a genuine desire to uplift our communities. “We urge all Northerners to be discerning in their support of public figures. Let us not be swayed by the hollow rhetoric of individuals like Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who have demonstrated that their allegiance lies not with the people, but with their own ambitions. “Together, we can foster a political environment that values transparency, accountability, and genuine service to the people of the North." |
