Prohibition of attributing wrong Fatherhood Sa`d bin Abu Waqqas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "He who (falsely) attributes his fatherhood to anyone besides his real father, knowing that he is not his father, will be forbidden to enter Jannah.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Do not turn away from your fathers, for he who turns away from his father, will be guilty of committing an act of disbelief.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] Commentary: To attribute one's fatherhood to someone other than one's real father due to the latter's poverty or in order to live a life of ease and comfort under the care of the person to whom one wishes to attribute his fatherhood, knowing that it is not lawful, is an act of Kufr (disbelief). If someone, however, does so without considering this unlawful act to be lawful, will in fact, be committing a major sin for which he will be punished in Hell-fire. This Hadith stresses the importance of safeguarding one's lineage and that of fulfilling the fathers' rights over their children. |
REMEMBRANCE OF Allah (GOD) Whoever is mindful of Allah when he is young and strong Ibn Rajab al Hambali (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Whoever is mindful of Allah when he is young and strong, Allah will take care of him when he is old and has become weak, and will bless him with good hearing, eyesight, strength and intellect. One of the scholars who lived beyond the age of one hundred years and enjoyed good strength and reasoning jumped up in a lively manner one day, and was asked about that. He said: ‘I kept these physical faculties from sin when i was young, and Allah has preserved them for me now that I am old.’ The opposite also applies. One of the Salaf saw an old man begging from people and said: ‘ This is a weak man who ignored Allah when he was young. So, Allah is ignoring him now that he has grown old.'” Al-Baqara : 152 فَاذْكُرُونِىٓ أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِى وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ So remember Me; I will remember you. The Virtue of Patience and Prayer Allah says; you who believe! Seek help in patience and As-Salah (the prayer). Truly, Allah is with As-Sabirin (the patient). After Allah commanded that He be appreciated, He ordained patience and prayer. It is a fact that the servant is either enjoying a bounty that he should be thankful for, or suffering a calamity that he should meet with patience. A Hadith states: Amazing is the believer, for whatever Allah decrees for him, it is better for him! • If he is tested with a bounty, he is grateful for it and this is better for him; • and if he is afflicted with a hardship, he is patient with it and this is better for him. Allah has stated that the best tools to help ease the effects of the afflictions are patience and prayer. Earlier we mentioned Allah's statement: And seek help in patience and As-Salah (the prayer) and truly, it is extremely heavy and hard except for Al-Khashi`in (i.e., the true believers in Allah). (2:45) There are several types of Sabr ـ patience: -one for avoiding the prohibitions and sins, - one for acts of worship and obedience. -There is a third type of patience required in the face of the afflictions and hardships, which is mandatory, like repentance. Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam said, "Sabr (patient)has two parts: -patience for the sake of Allah concerning what He is pleased with (i.e., acts of worship and obedience), even if it is hard on the heart and the body, and patience when avoiding what He (Allah) dislikes, even if it is desired. Those who acquire these qualities will be among the patient persons whom Allah shall greet (when they meet Him in the Hereafter; refer to Surah Al-Ahzab (33:44), |

Ruling on committing suicide
because of depression
What is the ruling on committing suicide in
the case of severe depression in which the
sick person is not aware of the
consequences of what he does? Will Allaah
forgive him for this action?
Is it possible that the suffering that the
sick person goes through because of this
disease is an expiation for his sins?
Praise be to Allaah.
Firstly:
Suicide is a major sin, and the one who
does that is faced with a warning of
eternity in the Fire of Hell, where Allaah
will punish him with the means that he
used to commit suicide. It was narrated
from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased
with him) that the Prophet (blessings and
peace of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Whoever throws himself down from a
mountain and kills himself will be throwing
himself down in the Fire of Hell for ever
and ever. Whoever drinks poison and kills
himself will be sipping it in the Fire of Hell
for ever and ever. Whoever kills himself
with a piece of iron will have that iron in
his hand, thrusting it into his belly in the
Fire of Hell for ever and ever.” Narrated by
al-Bukhaari (5442) and Muslim (109),
It was narrated from Thaabit ibn Dahhaak
(may Allaah be pleased with him) that the
Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace
of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever kills
himself with something will be punished
with it on the Day of Resurrection.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5700) and Muslim
(110).
It was narrated that Jundub ibn ‘Abd-Allaah
(may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The
Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace
of Allaah be upon him) said: “A man
among those who came before you was
wounded. He panicked and took a knife and
cut his hand, and the bleeding did not stop
until he died. Allaah, may He be glorified
and exalted, said: ‘My slave hastened his
death; I have forbidden Paradise to him.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (3276) and Muslim
(113).
The believer has to be patient and to seek
the help of Allaah, may He be exalted, and
understand that no matter what hardship
befalls him in this world -- no matter how
severe it is -- the punishment of the
Hereafter is worse than it. It is not
acceptable according to anyone who is of
right mind to run away from the heat of the
desert and throw himself into the fire. How
can he flee from temporary hardship and
difficulty -- which inevitably will come to
an end -- to an eternal punishment which
has no end?
The Muslim should ponder and realise that
he is not the only one in this world who is
affected by calamity and hardship.
Calamities befell the greatest of mankind,
namely the Prophets, Messengers and the
righteous. They also befell the worst of
mankind, namely the disbelievers and
atheists.
Calamity is part of the natural order of
things and hardly anyone is safe from it.
If the believer handles it well and is
patient, and it becomes a means that
makes him turn back to Allaah and strive
hard in worship and righteous deeds, then
the calamity will have been good for him
and will be expiation for his sins, and
perhaps he will meet Allaah with no burden
of sin.
The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah
be upon him) said: “No pain, hardship,
sickness or grief befalls a believer, not
even worry that befalls him, but some of
his bad deeds will be expiated.” Narrated
by al-Bukhaari (5642) and Muslim (2573).
Al-Tirmidhi (2399) narrated that Abu
Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him)
said: The Messenger of Allaah (blessings
and peace of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Calamities will continue to befall believing
men and women in themselves, their
children and their wealth, until they meet
Allaah with no burden of sin.” Classed as
saheeh by al-Albaani in Silsilat al-
Ahaadeeth al-Saheehah (2280).
