PoliticsOgun Sets Date To Open Four New Fire Stations by OriginalOmoOgun(op): 9:38pm On Apr 11, 2021
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that his administration would by the middle of May 2021, commission four brand new Fire and Emergency Stations in Ifo, Ado-Odo-Ota, and Isheri parts of the state.

Prince Dapo Abiodun who made this known while on an inspection tour of the Isheri Fire and Emergency Station, said that the fire station which is almost 95 to 96 per cent completed is in fufilment of his promise during the electioneering to ensure that the state does not have to rely on Lagos State to fight fire outbreak on the Ogun part of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

“The fire station is about 95 to 96 per cent completed; we have acquired the fire trucks and water trucks that will be here. We’ve built four of these stations; one in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government in addition to what they have and another one in Ifo Constituency 1.

“In the entire Ifo, we found out that there was no fire station, so, we built two fire stations in both Ifo I and Ifo II constituencies. Ifo now has two fire stations, and they will be getting two brand new fire trucks.

“We should be coming here in the next three to four weeks to formally commission this fire station, amongst other fire stations that we will be commissioning towards the middle of May, 2021,” he said.

Abiodun who also added that the fire stations when commissioned would be equipped with new fire trucks and water trucks, said part of his administration’s Emergency Response System is the combination of fire trucks and ambulances on the same spot.

While recalling that his administration upon assumption of office took stock of fire stations in the state, he revealed that that they were not habitable and not fit for any human use, as a result of years of neglect.

He however assured that his administration would continue to put the people first.

“When we resumed office, we decided to take stock of our fire stations, but, what we saw was embarrassing, I am not sure that the fire stations have been attended to, probably in the past 12 to 14 years. They were not habitable, they were not fit for any human use, they were not premises that would even motivate anyone to attend to any fire, so, we have embarked on the massive rehabilitation of existing ones. We have rehabilitated the stations, we have acquired new fire trucks.

“All these we will be unveiling, they are part of our emergency response system in Ogun State which is the combination of fire trucks and ambulances,” he said

CrimeGunmen Kidnap 13-year-old Boy, Demand N50m In Ogun by OriginalOmoOgun(op): 1:04pm On Apr 11, 2021
Unknown gunmen in Nigerian Army Camouflage reportedly kidnapped a 13-year-old boy in Obada-Odo Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The gunmen reportedly invaded Destiny Estate Community Association in Obada-Oko on Saturday around 9:15 pm, started shooting in the air, and whisked away the boy identified as Gbolahan Ajibola.

They have however reached out to the family and demanded a sum of N50 million before the boy would be released from their captivity.

Narrating the incident, the grandmother of the victim, Victoria Felix, told our correspondent that six gunmen invaded her house on Saturday night.

Felix, who is a trader in Adigbe, said the gunmen invaded their house as she and her daughter who is the mother of the victim were entering the house.

She said “Last night, (Saturday) as we got to the entrance of the house, the boy opened the gate for us. Suddenly, he screamed. We thought he was bitten by a Scorpion, but, as I was about to get down from the car to know what happened, I saw four gunmen already stood beside my car while two were at the gate and prevented the boy from closing the gate.

“I asked them what did we do? We gave them our two bags. They collected the bags and also the phones of Gbolahan and his mother.

“As they were taking him away I held one of them by his cloth and insisted they should take me instead of him, they dragged us to the ground and started shooting.”

PoliticsInsurgency: Governor Abiodun Urges Nigerians To Pray by OriginalOmoOgun(op): 7:19pm On Apr 09, 2021

The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has urged Nigerians, particularly residents of the state, not to be discouraged by the prevailing security, economic and social challenges confronting the nation, but be steadfast in their prayers for the country.

The governor equally urged the people to be cautious and avoid using inflammatory words capable of causing disunity in our country.

Abiodun gave the admonition, on Thursday, at the 13th Annual Synod of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, Diocese of Remo Central, held at the Methodist Church, Oke-Oja, Isara-Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, conflicts are inevitable in any human society, but Nigerians as a people must always strive look for amicable ways to resolve such conflicts whenever they arise.

He acknowledged that though there is fear in the land as a result of insecurity and which has negatively affected the country, Nigerians must continue praying for the nation and the leaders, saying “prayers can never be enough”.

Abiodun who noted the interplay between the theme of the Synod, ‘Watch and Pray’, said the theme sufficed as prayer was capable of upturning unpleasant situations to pleasant ones.

While lauding adherents of different religions for maintaining peaceful co-existence in the state, the governor disclosed that his administration had received inspirations from religious leaders, calling for more support and prayers.

Listing some of his administration’s achievements in the last 18 months, Abiodun said massive road construction, provision of affordable housing, renovation of Primary Health Centres and primary schools had been carried out across the state.

He further stated that security apparatus in the state had been reinvigorated with the provision of patrol vehicles and communication gadgets, stressing that his administration would continue to combat crimes to guarantee a peaceful state.

In his remark, the Diocesan Bishop of Remo Central, Rt. Rev. Olu Akinola, urged the governor to always be attentive and spend quality time with God.

The cleric further commended the governor for his achievements in the areas of roads, housing, security and employment, noting “these have helped in improving the wellbeing of the people”.

PoliticsBreaking: Kola Abiola 2023 Presidential Campaign Poster Gets To Public by OriginalOmoOgun(op): 9:20am On Apr 07, 2021
https://theguildng.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/kola.jpg

As plots toward 2023 presidential election thicken, the campaign poster of Kola Abiola, the first son of Nigeria’s former president, Moshood Abiola (MKO), has surfaced online, bringing back memories of his late father’s slogan, Hope 2023.

As gathered, his candidacy was said to have been part of political permutations that would produce an acceptable candidate across the country from Nigeria’s South West region.

It was learnt that part of what informed the decision for Kola to throw his hat in the ring was that he could ride on his late father’s support and achievement in the North and the senior Abiola’s acceptability during his Hope 93 election.

Our correspondent gathered that some All Progressive Congress (APC) bigwigs have been giving Kola the needed support peradventure the candidacy of the party’s National Leader and former Governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu, did not fly.

The argument among the party leaders was that based on the APC unwritten agreement that power would return to the South in 2023, it was important that the South West region have an alternative plan, particularly distinct candidates that would appeal to all Nigerians irrespective of religion, ethnic or political divides.

When The Guild reached out to the family after the posters surfaces online, their position was that if their sibling chose to run for the seat, they would rally support for him.

One of his brother who spoke to The Guild under anonymity condition disclosed that though his brother was yet to personally discuss his ambition with him, people have been calling him over the poster.

He indicated that if his brother decided to run for the oval office, the entire family have no choice but to provide every form of support for him to win the election.

“People have been calling me on the poster and I must tell you it is a welcome development. Though he has not talked to me personally about his ambition, we will Insha Allah (God willing) support him for the position,” Kola’s younger brother said.

It would be recalled that the senior Abiola won the 1993 presidential election which was annulled by the military government of Ibrahim Babaginda.

However, in 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari declared June 12 as Democracy Day in honour of Abiola, whom he gave a posthumous national honour.

PoliticsOgun Government Uncovers Former Governor Amosun’s ‘hidden’ N50 Billion Debt by OriginalOmoOgun(op): 5:12pm On Apr 06, 2021
https://penpushing.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Dapo-abiodun-with-amosun.png

The Ogun State Government has raised alarm over discovery of N50 billion domestic debt left behind by the immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the debt said not to be accounted for in the financial report handed over to incumbent administration.

Penpushing reports that, Governor Dapo Abiodun made the knocking discovery known adding that, the financial liability was not accounted for in the financial report handed over to him in May 2019.

The Governor was reacting to the report by the Debt Management Office (DMO) which claimed that the Ogun state government incurred N58 billion domestic debt within the period of his administration.

Penpushing further reports that, the Debt Management Office (DMO) in its report published March 15, showed that from June 30, 2019, to December 30, 2020, the Ogun State Government had incurred a total of N58,316,493,347 local debts.

The Governor, however, kicked against the report of the Debt Management Office (DMO), that N58 billion by former Governor Amosun administration in the state on the domestic debt had an impact.

Penpushing also reports that, Abiodun in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, said the state got this hidden debt during its investigation, stressing that the discovery followed due diligence on the finances of the state.

“We only got to know about this amount in the course of our carrying out due diligence on Ogun State finances shortly after we took over. As a transparent government committed to being accountable, we had to disclose this for the first time to give a true picture of the state’s indebtedness.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun has started paying the retirees and pensioners affected, with the first tranche of N500m paid to them last month. Every quarter, the governor has promised to pay them at least N500m until everyone is paid.

“The increase in the 2020 total debt of the state was due to an undisclosed gratuity and staff liabilities of about N50bn not recognised in the state financial statements in May 2019 at the end of the previous administration.

“In order to show the complete picture of all state liabilities, the current administration booked the gratuities and staff liabilities in the financial statements of the state hence the increase. Residents and citizens of the state can attest to how Gov Abiodun is completing all the abandoned projects of his predecessor and commencing signature projects and roads’.

“The governor has concentrated on his ‘Building Our Future Together’ with special attention to infrastructure, health, education and agriculture. Also, the welfare and security of the people which are the primary functions of government are equally on the front-burner”, he said.

Penpushing reports that, efforts to get Amosun’s reaction as at the time of filing this report proved abortive, as he was not responding to several telephone calls made to him

PoliticsGovernor Dapo Abiodun: Amosun Didn’t Properly Capture Ogun Debt Profile by OriginalOmoOgun(op): 10:57pm On Apr 05, 2021
Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun has stated the handover note given to him by his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, did not capture the entire liabilities left behind.

Abiodun said his administration inherited N50billion in financial liabilities from Amosun, which were largely unaccounted for in the financial report handed over to him.

The Governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Mr Kunle Somorin, alleged the omitted amount N50bn was financial liabilities incurred by Amosun’s administration due to unpaid pensions, gratuities and outstanding staff salaries, “which surprisingly were not captured in the books left behind for the new government.”

“We only got to know about this amount in the course of our carrying out due diligence on Ogun State finances shortly after we took over.

“And as a transparent government, committed to being accountable, we had to disclose this for the first time, to give a true picture of the State’s indebtedness.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun has started paying the retirees and pensioners affected with the first tranche of N500million paid to them last month.

*Every quarter the governor has promised to pay them at least N500million until everyone is paid.”

While noting the recent report by the Debt Management Office (DMO) on the state’s domestic debt, the statement said the omitted figures by the immediate past administration in the state had an impact on the DMO report.

Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in all matters while remaining steadfast in the completion of all projects inherited as well as those initiated by the present government.

Ogun State Government, Thursday, inaugurated the reconstruction of the Journalists Estate Road in Arepo, a community off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state, promising that the 2.35 kilometre road project would not exceed the projected nine-month completion timeframe.

Representing the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to flag-off the project in Arepo, with the State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Waheed Odusile and his Works & Infrastructure counterpart, Engr. Ade Akinsanya.

They were received at Arepo by the representatives of the community, including the Olu of Arepo, Oba Solomon Atanda; Chairperson of the Journalists Estate Residents Association (JERDA) Phase 1, Mrs Funke Fadugba; executives of the Arepo Central Community Development Association (ACCDA) as well as some residents.

The Commissioners assured the residents that the project would not be abandoned but delivered on time.

“This project is not going to be abandoned; the contractor is fully funded. We are going to do everything humanly possible not to inconvenient a lot of people, but at the same time, we need to get the work done.

“This is a dualised road with a median and street lights. The water will be channeled to the proper location to be disposed into the canal. Also, along the way, their will be a lay-by for transporters, the drain is covered, it will serve as a walk-way, the face of this place will change very soon,” Akinsanya said.

According to the Commissioner, “This place has lots of journalists residing in the area, cover and probably document the changes you have seen along the way, so, you should be the government’s eyes on this project.

“This is an affirmation that a promise made is a promise kept as far as Governor Dapo Abiodun is concerned, we want to assure our people that within the time frame allocated for the contract, it will be completed and delivered.”

Assuring resident whose properties were affected by the project on adequate compensation, Akinsanya said: “The Ministry of Physical Planning is responsible, they’ve come out and asked all the areas affected to bring supporting documents. They came with the Bureau of Lands for the enumeration of whatever will be impacted, so, the issue bordering on compensation will be taken care of by the Bureau of Lands and the Ministry of Physical Planning.

“As long as you have all your permits and other approvals, take the documents to them, it will be taken care of. Luckily, most of the areas affected are either fences or walls, it is when you get to the end of the project that we are probably looking at about two to three houses and we can still look at how to mitigate the big impact.”

Also speaking during the flag-off ceremony and inspection of the project site, the Commissioner of Information, Odusile, described the project as a fulfilment of the promise of the Dapo Abiodun-led government, to make movement of goods, services and the people easy in the area.

“When the governor invited traditional rulers of various communities in the state to write to government what were their pressing needs, Arepo told us, this road is the most critical and the governor has listened and today, he has assured, the desire will come true,” he noted.

Appreciating the state government’s show of concern to the community over the long-abandoned and deteriorating road, JERDA Phase 1 chairperson, Fadugba, appealed to the state governor to fulfil the promise made to the people on healthcare, saying the sprawling community really needs a primary healthcare facility.

BusinessAFDB, IFAD Say Ogun Most Suitable For Special Agro-processing Zone by OriginalOmoOgun(op): 1:24pm On Apr 05, 2021
https://guardian.ng/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Ogun-picture-2-1062x598.jpg

Ogun State has been described as the most suitable location for the African Development Bank and International Fund for Agricultural Development (AfDB/IFAD) Special Agricultural-Processing Zone (SAPZ) programme.

Both bodies expressed this when they were received by the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, in Abeokuta, last week.

Also, the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Mr Dapo Okubadejo, presented arguments and facts to support the proposed cargo airport in the state. He said the African Free Continental Trade Agreement (AFCTA) is the largest regional economic network, and Ogun State is strategically located with presence of multinational agro-allied conglomerates to benefit from the trade.

About 74 per cent of the landmass in Ogun is arable, and the state is the largest producer of poultry, cassava and a host of other produce.

The AfDB/IFAD teams were on a pre-appraisal mission for development of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone, led by Dr Chuma Ezedinma.

In his remark, the Country Director, IFAD, Dr Patrick Habamenshi, noted that Nigeria as a country has the potential to achieve greatness through agriculture.

While stressing that the development of the sector is paramount to IFAD, Habamenshi urged the governor to support the team with the necessary logistics that might be required towards the successful implementation of the project.

Addressing the team, the governor declared that Ogun has the potential in the area of good road networks, power plant, rail, deep sea-port, gas pipeline, dams among others factors that promote industrialization.

The government said its agro-cargo airport would catalyze industrial revolution and value chain development through the agro-processing zone.

The state is one of the six where agricultural processing zones would be financed by AfDB and IFAD in Nigeria.

He said with its current level of infrastructure, coupled with the concentration of agro-investors and nearness to raw materials and large market, Ogun is naturally a SAPZ location and suitable for SAPZ innovation and case study.

“There is a level of coordination, aggregation and agro-transformation currently going on in the state, as the largest hub for both conventional industries and Agro Industries, which are located near Lagos, one of the largest markets in Africa.”

Abiodun added that with the earmarking of 20,000 hectares of land including advance level brown field activities, the state has taken the AfDB SAPZ initiative to a higher level, emphasising that the commencement of the Cargo Airport, whose first phase would be delivered in 2022, would complement export opportunities and nationwide supplies.

According to him, the state was happy to be chosen as one of the benefitting states in the country, saying the project was in line with the administration’s economic agenda.

“I note with great pleasure, our agenda to pursue international collaborations, which is leading us, with hopes from the AfDB SAPZ initiative, just like our collaboration with IITA which has helped us deliver on key Agricultural outputs, with extraordinary performances,” he stated.

He expressed delight at the progress made by the state in the Federal Government of Nigeria/International Fund for Agricultural Development’s Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), whereby 13,000 people had been linked to credit market and jobs as well as benefits of infrastructure, markets, roads, land clearing and others.

“Since inception of this administration in May 2019, our agricultural agenda has been bold, daring, ambitious and exemplary. From registration of over 80,000 people (mostly youths) for Agricultural value chain opportunities, to linkage of over 15,000 people to credit, input and guaranteed market and productivity in the FGN/CBN Ogun Anchor Borrowers Programme and other programmes, despite a restrictive COVID-19 year, and a host of others.

“The gathering of global agricultural authorities and experts, as part of our administration’s bid for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) Project, is an indication of our government’s continuous effort to seek partnership and collaboration, in its resolve to support all levels of agricultural activities to achieve food security,” Abiodun pointed out.

The governor said since inception of this administration in May 2019, “our agricultural agenda has been bold, daring, ambitious and exemplary – from registration of over 80,000 people (mostly youths) for agricultural value chain opportunities to linkage of over 15,000 people to credit, input and guaranteed market and productivity in the FGN/CBN Ogun Anchor Borrowers Programme and other programmes despite a restrictive COVID-19 year, and a host of others.”

PoliticsDapo Abiodun Mourns Odumakin, Describes Death As Painful by OriginalOmoOgun(op): 4:39pm On Apr 03, 2021
Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has mourned the death of the spokesperson of the Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, describing his death as "painful".

Odumakin was reported to have died in a Lagos hospital on Saturday morning.

But Abiodun, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, declared that the South-West has lost a courageous human rights activist and fearless public commentator.

The governor noted that Odumakin, while alive, championed the cause of the South-West and promote the ideals of the late sage and Premier of the defunct Western Region, Obafemi Awolowo, which were held dear by the Afenifere.

Abiodun, who said the late journalist would be remembered for his timely response to national issues, particularly, ones that affected the southwest, added that Odumakin lived a good life and fought a good fight.

"For those of us who have followed Odumakin's trajectory in journalism and activism, he lived a good life and fought doggedly to defend the defenceless. He and his wife were always at the forefront to protest against oppressive government policies.

"As the spokesperson of the Afenifere, he discharged his duties diligently and defended the cause of the southwest passionately. He never hid his passion for the Yoruba people and was never timid to speak against any policy that would affect the generality of the nation.

"Though, the activist has gone to the join his Maker, his humane and altruistic activities while on Earth will remain indelible in our hearts.

"I commiserate with his immediate family, especially his wife and 'Siamese twins', Joey Odumakin, the Afenifere and indeed, the South-West. I pray that his soul finds comfort in the bosom of the Almighty God. We shall all miss Odumakin. Goodnight, Yinka!", the statement concluded.

The pilot agric-hub which is to be situated around the axis of the proposed agro cargo airport in Remo, is an all inclusive economic opportunities in all agricultural value-chain, as it would boost employment, food production as well as attract investors.

Governor Abiodun who described Ogun State as the best location for SAPZ implementation, judging from its closeness to raw materials, proximity to Lagos and the commencement of agro cargo airport, said the project would be implemented through Public Private Sector Partnership.

"This is a very interesting and excited development for as a State because it's in line with our economic agenda since inception of this administration to provide a focused and qualitative governance, while creating an enabling environment for a Public Private Partnership which we believe is fundamental to economic growth of the State", he affirmed.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Adeola Odedina, expressed delight at the economic impact of the project on the agricultural activities in the localities and across the state in general, saying, the vision for the project was based on the agenda of the present administration to turn the economy of the state around through industrialization which in turn leads to provision of more jobs for youths and food security.

"With this kind of project, our farmers will need to increase their output, because productivity is key and all agricultural value-chain can be assured that the benefits inherent in such a massive initiative will cut across board", Odedina said.

Also speaking, his counterpart in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, described the initiative as a well thought through plan for the State to take its rightful position as the largest economic hub in the country.

Okubadejo said the Economic Development Clusters were to be located in Ijebu, Magboro, Abeokuta and Atan-Lusada-Agbara axis and the Remo hub being the flagship station because of its proximity to the Lekki Sea-port and lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone, translating to its economic viability.

The leader of the African Development Bank (AFDB), Dr. Chima Ezedinma, applauded the readiness of the Ogun State Government for the project, saying the enormous commitment to the project is second to none in the country.

He assured AfDB's his commitment towards the successful implementation of this developmental project with the support of Government as well as stakeholders.

Another development partner, the country Director of International Fund for Agriculture (IFAD), Dr. Patrick Abamachi described Ogun as a place to be for any investor, saying the State's apparent committment to engaging small holder farmers and connecting them to private sector partnership was in tandem with the agenda of the IFAD.
