WNRwrite: President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has rubbished the reason given for the meeting between the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Recall that Saraki and Obasanjo had met yesterday behind closed-doors. Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Saraki said the purpose of the meeting was to make up for his absence during the formal inauguration of the Presidential library held last year. However, Onochie rubbished Saraki’s reason, describing it as fake news. In a statement she posted on her Facebook page, the Presidential aide insisted that the meeting was centered around President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole. So this must be the conversation that took place between Saraki and OBJ. Enjoy! Saraki: Sorry Your Excellency, I missed the opening of the library 17 months ago. “OBJ: Nothing to be sorry about, the library is still open. Let’s look in. “Saraki: Yes Baba. This is impressive. It smells of the people’s money. “OBJ: I will pretend I didn’t hear that. This section is for young men with no common sense. “On your right, we have books for greedy young men in government. “Next to it is the section for young men who take what does not belong to them. “On your left are books for the shameless young men who return to their vomit. “Next to it are books for young men who stage police drama in front of their homes or at the National Assembly. Plus those who jump out of moving vehicles and doing the Tarzan tree to tree jump while escaping from imaginary kidnappers. “Upstairs is the section for young men who have no honour and cannot spell the word, “Loyalty”. Next to it is the section with books for self-centred young men…. “Saraki: Ha baba, You keep saying young men…. “OBJ: If you don’t like books for young men, you can visit Mr. Ibrahim Magu at the new EFCC building. They have modern rooms with books for young and old people. Your Excellency your library is beautiful. Thanks for showing me around. “Yeah right! It was not political. “ME: Fat chance! engineerboat: No legal or constitutional basis for Saraki to resign as Senate President- Ozekhome
Says 24 APC States Having Parallel Congresses during Convention Clearly showed division in the Party
Constitutional Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, has dismissed the call on Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to resign his position as Senate President following his defection from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The dismissal was contained in a statement issued by Chief Ozekhome entitled, “Must Dr. Bukola Saraki Resign as Senate President because he Defected from APC to PDP?
He said, “In law, there is no legal or constitutional basis for Dr Bukola Saraki to resign or be removed as president of the Senate and Chairman of the NASS simply because he has decamped or defected from APC to PDP.
“The first point to make here is that section 68(1) of the 1999 Constitution provides inter alia, that any member of the 109 Senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives who loses his Nigerian citizenship, or is made a minister, or decamps from his political party to another party Automatically loses his seat.
“However, section 68(1) (g) of the same 1999 Constitution permits a legislator to decamp or cross carpet from his original party under whose platform he contested and won election, to a new party if he can show that there has occurred a division or fractionalization of his original party, or that his party has merged with another party, or a faction of another party. “It is a question of fact, not of law, if there exists a division in a party.
“In the case of APC, 24 states held parallel congresses before the national convention. Can there be any better or stronger evidence of a division in a party? I think not.
“To add to the gravity of this internal implosion and vertical and horizontal schism, a new wing, r-APC emerged from the APC at the national level.
“It is headed by no less a person than Buba Galadima, a tested political strategist, Buhari’s right hand man and former Secretary of Buhari’s CPC.
“Although APC leadership had dismissed the breakaway factional members that have fecund Kassim Afegbua as their spokesman, the wind was removed from their sail when they commenced frantic fire brigade appeasement missions to the respective homes of these aggrieved members. “They did these nichodemusly at wee hours of the night, even when they had claimed they would not lose sleep. They lost: plenty sleep.
“The Pandora box has since been broken as three governors, Senate president,15 Senators, over 40 House of Representatives members, Local government chairmen, Councilors, Commissioners, etc, have defected in droves to the PDP, and some few ones to ADC and SDP; and still counting.
“So, all the legislators, including Dr. Bukola Saraki, are constitutionally covered and immune from removal from office, because their APC party is eventually irredeemably broken into smithereens and totally factionalized.
“Must Saraki and Yakubu Dogara (I can bet he will soon defect) lose their leadership positions as Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively by this defection? “The answer is a categorical no.
There is nowhere in the extant 1999 Constitution where it is provided that the ruling party must provide these principal heads of the bicameral legislature.
“Indeed, APC was lucky in June, 2015, when Saraki, then in APC, was narrowly elected Senate President and Ike Ekweremadu of PDP as his deputy.
“It could have been the other way round as has happened many times in the USA and heavens would not have fallen.
“Section 47 of the Constitution provides that the Senate shall consist of 109 members and the House of Representatives 360 members. “By virtue of section 50(1) (A) of the Constitution, the president of the Senate and the Deputy President of the Senate shall be elected by members of the Senate.
“By section 50 (1) (b), the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shall be elected by members of the House.
“There is nowhere it is stated that such officers must come from any political party, whether ruling, or opposition.
“The only circumstance in which the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives can lose his seat is provided for in section 50(2) of the same Constitution.
“It states, inter alia, that the president of the Senate, the Deputy President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives shall vacate their offices through a resolution passed by 2/3rd majority votes of members. Consequently, for Saraki (and later, Dogara), to be removed, each of the houses needs 2/3rd majority votes.
“In the case of the Senate, that is a humongous 73 senators, and a whopping 240 members of the House of Representatives to remove Dogara.
“That is an impossible task under the present circumstances even if this corrupt government that feigns anti-corruption war promises all the oil blocks and automatic tickets to the legislators.
“This is because its antecedents of self-denial on everything it ever promised during campaigns makes it very untrustworthy to be believed on anything. In law, we call it similar facts.
“The last time I checked, APC and PDP stand shoulder to shoulder on membership, with each laying claim to numerical superiority.
“So, where will it achieve this talismanic constitutional superiority of 2/3 majority votes to sack Saraki and Dogara. It will not happen.
The deft Machiavellian and superior sagacious political acrobatics of Saraki and r-APC movement have left APC breathless and confused.
“They must go to the drawing board, a tabula rasa, if it hopes to snatch the burning kernel from the blazing inferno. The next weeks and months will be very interesting. My Kobo take.”

Politics › Re: "Why APC Senators Found It Difficult To Impeach Saraki" – Lai Mohammed Reveals by osazeeblue01: 8:42am On Aug 14, 2018 |
engineerboat: HOW APC SENATORS FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO IMPEACH SARAKI – LAI MOHAMMED
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has revealed why it has been difficult for the All Progressives Congress, APC, to remove Dr. Bukola Saraki as Senate President.
Mohammed, speaking how the problems being witnessed in the ruling party started, said that Saraki forced himself into the office of the Senate President and made Ike Ekweremmadu, from the opposition, his deputy.
The Minister quoted Saraki as saying that ‘If you remove me, you are going to have PDP as Senate President’ adding that the Senate President had aligned and worked for the PDP all along.
Mohammed said this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos, where be reacted to the gale of defections in the APC.
He said that recent events in the party did not come to him as surprise, adding that they were expected.
He said, “The foundation for what you see today was laid the day the Senate President forced himself on the party as Senate President.
“That was the day the foundation for what you are witnessing today was laid because traditionally, it is the party’s prerogative who becomes the presiding officers in the two houses. Here, we were met with a fait accompli when Dr. Bukola Saraki, against the wishes of the party, did the unthinkable by aligning with the opposition and making them an offer they could not refuse.
“I can’t quite remember the number, but almost the entire 40 plus senators in PDP voted for him. So, he needed only a minority from the APC. We were all waiting for Mr. President to come and address us on this issue at the International Conference Centre, it was announced that he (Bukola) had emerged as the Senate President.
“From that day, we knew we had two problems: one, we had a Senate President who imposed himself on the party, and to make it worse, as an insurance, he arranged for an opposition person to be Deputy Senate President; that makes it impossible for us to remove him, hence his thinking, ‘If you remove me, you are going to have a PDP Senate President.’
“From that day, we had a problem. This is not a surprise at all. Of course, you could see the behaviour of the National Assembly since then. We have a National Assembly in which we had a clear majority in both houses, but which treated the executive with contempt and actually slowed down the work of government.
“In 2016, 2017 and 2018, our budgets were delayed. In 2016 and 2017, the earliest we got our budgets was June. Key appointments, nominations and confirmations for key organisations that could move the government forward like the CBN, like the NDIC, were delayed. “Really, it couldn’t have been worse if the PDP had a majority in the National Assembly.”

nairavsdollars: Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information has said it will be impossible for Senate President, Bukola Saraki who is in a minority party to preside over the Senate which has All Progressives Congress ( APC) in majority.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent on Thursday, Momoh one of the National Leaders of the APC said the APC senators who are in majority will not fold their hands during plenary and watch while Saraki who is now a member of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) presides over them.
“He can resign or be thrown out. He can resign if he says i am no longer on the ticket of the party. But the party can go to court and if the court decides that there is no faction in APC, then he can lose his seat. Having lost his seat, then he can no longer be the Senate President because only a Senator can occupy the position”.
The only way APC can remove Saraki is by going to court or mobilise two thirds of the members to remove him . They can’t force him out”. ” I don’t know how Saraki can preside over a Senate where he is in the Minority and I don’t think the APC Senators who are in the majority will just sit down there and watch while somebody who is in the minority presides over their affairs”. ” I only hope he is not inviting trouble because of greed” he said.

chidima2019: Former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi has insisted that the level of corruption under the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration was worst than PDP’s 16 years.
The former governor of Kaduna State and a presidential aspirant said the current level of corruption will not be known until APC leaves power.
Speaking with PDP leaders in Enugu, he claimed that the anti-graft war was weak under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration because it has been politicised.
Makarfi said, “By the time APC is kicked out in 2019, you will know that the corruption in the system now is even worse now than in PDP’s 16 years. It is usually difficult to investigate a government in power. “But, I must tell you clearly that this government is corrupt. They keep saying PDP is corrupt, yet we established EFCC, ICPC etc, which showed our readiness to fight corruption from the beginning.”

AllTheWayUp: Senate President Bukola Saraki has reacted to the recent call by the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Adam’s Oshiomhole, that he should resign or face impeachment saying a million Adams Oshiomhole cannot remove him from office. In a statement issued on Friday by his Media Adviser, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki also accused Oshiomhole of being ignorant of parliamentary rules as it relates to election and removal of principal officers like the Senate President. The statement said a million Adams Oshiomhole cannot remove Saraki as Senate President. “His illegal plots, can only feed his insatiable ego and keep him awake at nights. But it will remain an exercise in futility.” The 14-paragraph statement read: “It is rather surprising that Mr. Adams Oshiomhole is behaving like a rain-beaten chicken, crying all over the place about Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, as if the Senate President is the apparition haunting his life and the sinking ship that he captains. “Having decided not to join the pigs in rolling in the dirt; we would not like to be involved in any meaningless exchange with the demagogue now in charge of APC. However, because he claimed that he was reacting to the issues raised by the Senate President during his World Press Conference, we thought it necessary to give the APC chairman some attention. “Alas, we found that instead of addressing any issue raised by the Senate President, his press conference merely showcased his obsession and those of his sponsors with Saraki’s removal, which he did without any decorum befitting of his age or his awarded office. He brimmed with hate, hurled abuses, threw tantrums, told lies, huffed, puffed. In the end, he said nothing. “It is indeed amazing that the same Oshiomhole, who is now describing Saraki as a politician of no consequence was the same one who only a few months ago was crawling all over the place pleading for Saraki’s support to become chairman. We are sure that those who took him to Saraki several times to plead his case must now be thoroughly embarrassed by his reckless and uncouth manner. ” By his conduct and utterances, Oshiomhole, who accused Saraki of not acting in national interest needs to do more to convince Nigerians that his desperate desire to become party chairman is not simply to feed his over-sized ego. “The position of Oshiomhole and his cohorts in the APC that the Senate President must resign is a mere wishful thinking. They will continue to dream about their planned removal of the Senate President. They will need 73 Senators to lawfully remove Dr. Saraki and they will never get that in the present eight Senate. ” The argument of APC that the Senate President must come from a majority party; that the Senate Presidency is their crown and National Assembly is their palace is only supported by ignorance and dangerous delusion. First, the issue of which party is in the majority will only be resolved when the Senate resume. Two, Section 50 (1) (a) of the constitution is clear that any Senator can be elected as Senate President. If the only thing left of the APC change agenda is to change the Senate President we can only wish them goodluck. “Perhaps, Mr. Oshiomhole needs to be better educated about our parliamentary history when he stated that “For the first time in parliamentary history in Nigeria, we had a situation where the APC had majority of Senators and went on to elect a PDP as Deputy Senate President”. Where is Mr. Oshiomhole when Senator John Wash Pam of the Nigerian People’s Party (NPP) became Deputy Senate President in the Second Republic even when the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) had the majority. The same thing happened in the House of Representatives when NPP’s Rt. Hon. Edwin Umeh Ezeoke was elected Speaker in an NPN majority House. But then, it would require a level of education to understand these things. “What hypocrisy! To think that this same APC were jubilating when Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal retained his position after he defected from the PDP and still retained his seat, even when his new party was in the minority. These are people whose standards of morality are infinitely elastic. “We are sure the remaining APC Senators need to do a lot of work to bring Oshiomhole up to speed about parliamentary practice. His ignorance are too clear in his comments about how the Senate was adjourned on July 24, 2018, the distribution of committee chairmanship in the Senate and the difference between the post of Senate President and Minority Leader. ” He has made so much song and dance about Mr. Godswill Akpabio resigning as Senate Minority Leader when he left the PDP to join APC. For this, Akpabio has become his hero and a symbol of honour. He obviously does not understand that the post of Minority Leader is a strictly party affair. And the PDP simply decided who to give it as it is not even a position that was mentioned in the constitution. Whereas, the Senate President position is a constitutional creation, which required majority votes of all the members. Again, we don’t expect people whose only experience in politics is at the provincial levels to understand this. No wonder they are talking of crowns and inheritance. “The fair distribution of the Committee chairmanship is one of the stabilizing factors in the 8th Senate and has helped it in achieving more than all its predecessors. “We need to inform this divisive element who now leads APC that if he wants to know why the 2018 budget was delayed, he should ask the heads of the MDAs. We reckon that should be easy for him since he is now their ‘headmaster’, moving around with canes to whip ministers into line. “Oshiomhole once again demonstrated his lack of sense of history by talking of Buhari winning more votes in Kwara than Saraki. We are sure President Buhari himself will disagree with the APC chairman. We invite the APC chairman to look at the figures of votes secured by the President in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 to know that the difference is clear, like a commercial advert stated.”

Butterflyleo: If anyone cannot decipher by now that PDP has lost the elections then you have rocks for brains
The mere fact that their minority leader who knows all the happenings in the party defected to APC and at the rally clearly said " I AM HERE TO CONNECT AKWA IBOM TO THE CENTER". This shows he as a former insider in the PDP knows PDP has failed already and cannot win in 2019.
Now Saraki in another desperate move has gathered 45 chairmen of other parties all so the CUPP can be expanded further
A CUPP that is already at breaking point due to inordinate ambitions of those in it is finally about to shatter into tiny pieces.
The funniest part is that even the followers of the other parties believe in Buhari and would rather stand with him than with someone as unreliable as Saraki whom his own kwara people have rejected.
I want to believe this is him following the council if Babangida whom he met with the other day. Alas APC is too strong a movement to challenge right now. Its too late.
The chairmen of those other parties will also defect to APC in the coming weeks and leave saraki out cold. We wake up bro. |
