Trendvoice: @NAIRATREND.COM.NG
The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has faulted comments by Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal against President Muhammadu Buhari.
It described such as unfortunate, ill-conceived and a total assault on African cultural values.
Chairman and Secretary of the group, Messrs Niyi Akinsiju and Cassidy Madueke, respectively, said this in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.
The BMO said that Tambuwal had in recent time engaged in deliberate campaign of calumny against the President and warned that the governor was on a road to perdition just like Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State in 2015.
“This infamous style of politics belonged in the past and it is necessary to remind Tambuwal that it is not African tradition for young people to insult their elders and such negative attitude usually had its consequences.
“We also advise Governor Tambuwal to draw a lesson from what happened to Ayo Fayose in the last Ekiti governorship election, as he was roundly rejected by the electorate due to his non-performance and unguarded utterances.
“We also want to assure Tambuwal that his case will not be different from that of Ayo Fayose, as he will not only be rejected as the next governor of Sokoto state, but his presidential ambition will remain a pipe-dream.
“As he has not only denied his people development but has wasted the scarce resources he ordinarily should have used to render service to the good people of Sokoto state,” the statement read in part.
The group predicted that Tambuwal would go into political oblivion in 2019 as he was already running against the tide.

Politics › Re: Lai Mohammed Lied, Nigerian Govt Paid Ransom To Free #dapchigirls – UN Report by osazeeblue01: 2:53pm On Aug 16, 2018 |
Udantu: Contrary to the claim by the Nigerian government through the Information Minister Lai Mohammed, the government paida “large ransom” to free scores of female students kidnapped by the Boko Haram from their school in Dapchi, Yobe State, earlier this year, the United Nations has said.
Over 100 girls were kidnapped from the Dapchi school by a Boko Haram faction in February this year with about 105 of them later released by the terrorists. One of them, Leah Sharibu, who reportedly refused to denounce her Christian faith, is still with the abductors.
Following the release of the girls, about a month after they were kidnapped, Mr Mohammed told journalists that it was not true ransom was paid for their release.
‘’It is not true that we paid ransom for the release of the Dapchi girls, neither was there a prisoner swap to secure their release,” Mr. Mohammed told journalists in Maiduguri with his statement circulated by his office to media organisations including PREMIUM TIMES.
“What happened was that the abduction itself was a breach of the ceasefire talks between the insurgents and the government; hence it became a moral burden on the abductors. Any report that we paid ransom or engaged in prisoner swap is false.”
A UN report has now shown Mr Mohammed’s claim to be false.
The report recently submitted to the UN Security Council on Boko Haram and related terrorist organisations, said such ransom and the predominance of cash economy was providing oxygen for the insurgency around the Lake Chad region.
The UN report is titled “22nd Report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team”, related to Resolution 2368 (2017) regarding “Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant – ISIL – (Da’esh), Al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities.”
“In Nigeria, 111 schoolgirls from the town of Dapchi were kidnapped on 18 February 2018 and released by ISWAP on 21 March 2018 in exchange for a large ransom payment,” the report stated.
The UN report negating the Nigerian government’s stance reflects the manner of propaganda the Nigerian government and its military have been using to fight the war against Boko Haram.
PREMIUM TIMES has reported how the Nigerian military has repeatedly lied about military casualty in the war and, along with the government, had claimed the Boko Haram had been defeated.
The government’s stance appears to be that suppressing information, or as in this case lying about it, would reduce the efficacy of the insurgents and thus limit their ability to carry out their terrorist acts.
The Dapchi girl’s ransom would not be the first by the Nigerian government to free victims held by Boko Haram. Huge ransom was also paid by the Buhari administration to free many of released Chibok girls kidnapped in 2014, senators including the leader of ruling party in the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, said. Although the move is largely welcomed by many Nigerians as it ensures freedom for the victims, experts fear it has helped fuel the insurgency by ensuring the Boko Haram has access to funds to buy more weapons and sustain themselves; a stance shared in the UN report.
OTHER SOURCES OF FUNDING Apart from ransom, the UN also listed other ways the Boko Haram are being funded.
“…extortion, charitable donations, smuggling, remittances and kidnapping as parts of ways Boko Haram is funded,” the report stated as quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria.
The report also stated how some “doctrinally based non-governmental organisations” were funding Boko Haram and other terror groups.”
“The number of doctrinally based non-governmental organisations sending funds to local terrorist groups was growing, and Member States were concerned that radicalisation was increasing the threat level in the Sahel.
“Meanwhile, Boko Haram (QDe.138) and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have had a similar impact in their areas of control, including the Lake Chad basin.
“The predominance in the region of the cash economy, without controls, is conducive to terrorist groups funded by extortion, charitable donations, smuggling, remittances and kidnapping.”
According to NAN, “the report was signed by Edmund Fitton-Brown, Coordinator, Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, who said the report was “comprehensive and independent”, and Kairat Umarov, Chair, Security Council Committee.
SANCTIONS ON BOKO HARAM
The UN Security Council committee on al Qaeda sanctions blacklisted and imposed sanctions on the Boko Haram in 2014 after the insurgents kidnapped more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls.
The designation, which came into effect after no objections were raised by the Security Council’s 15 members, subjected Boko Haram to UN sanctions, including an arms embargo, asset freeze and travel ban.
The UN Security Council had last week said it remained concerned over the security and humanitarian situation caused by the Boko Haram terrorists and other armed groups in Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad.
In a Presidential Statement, the 15-member body regretted that Central African countries were beset by terrorist activity, instability and the effects of climate change, and asked Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to review the work of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), and recommend areas for improvement.
The presidential statement read: “The Security Council strongly condemns all terrorist attacks carried out in the region, including those perpetrated by Boko Haram and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as Daesh).
“These attacks have caused large-scale and devastating losses, have had a devastating humanitarian impact including through the displacement of a large number of civilians in Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad, and represent a threat to the stability and peace of West and Central Africa.
“The Council notes with particular concern the continuing use by Boko Haram of women and girls as suicide bombers, which has created an atmosphere of suspicion towards them and made them targets of harassment and stigmatisation in affected communities, and of arbitrary arrests by security forces.
“The Council emphasises the need for affected States to counter-terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including by addressing the conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism, in accordance with obligations under international law, in particular international human rights law, international refugee law and international humanitarian law”.
The Security Council welcomed the support provided by UNOCA and the UN Office for West Africa and Sahel (UNOWAS) for the development of a joint regional strategy to address the root causes of the Lake Chad Basin crisis through regular contact with regional leaders.
The Council encouraged partners to increase security assistance to Lake Chad Basin Commission countries, and humanitarian and development support across the region for those affected by Boko Haram activities.
“The Security Council remains deeply concerned at the grave security situation and related violations and abuses of human rights in parts of Central Africa, in particular the continuing terrorist activities of Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the Lake Chad Basin,” it said.
“The Security Council expresses its ongoing concern at continued tensions linked to disputed electoral processes, social and economic difficulties, and conflicts between farmers and herders,” the statement added.
The 15-member Council noted that UNOCA’s priorities would include to work closely with UNOWAS to address trans-regional issues such as maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, conflict between farmers and herders, and combating Boko Haram.

Racoon: A crack has emerged in APC Senate Caucus over the selection of Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) against Senator Godswill Akpabio (APC, Akwa Ibom) as replacement of Senate President Bukola Saraki, Daily Trust has gathered. Sources at the Tuesday meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly caucus with the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, said two camps have emerged.
It was gathered that at the previous meeting, Lawan was endorsed as Saraki’s replacement and Sunny Ogbuoji (APC, Ebonyi) was selected as replacement for Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
The endorsements led to collation of signatures for the impeachment of Saraki and Ekweremadu. The move followed Saraki’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).The Tuesday meeting was held behind closed doors at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.
A lawmaker said the agenda of the meeting was to look into the crisis between the federal lawmakers and state governors, but that the focus was purely on how to effect leadership change at the Senate.
Three senators; two from the Northwest and one from Northeast (a female) supported the position of the rep. The two senators from the Northwest narrated their ordeals in the hands of their governors. One of them traced the genesis of his feud with his governor to when he supported Lawan in 2015 at the inauguration of the Senate.
The plights of Senator Babajide Omoworare, Soji Akanbi and Yahaya Abdullahi were also raised at the meeting. “A senator lamented that the trio were punished by Saraki because of Lawan. He said when Lawan became the Senate Leader he did nothing to address the situation,” the source said
“They are in total support of the removal of Saraki and Ekweremadu but the argument is the issue of Lawan. People are now canvassing for Akpabio because he sacrificed his seat (minority leader) for APC. “What we are saying now is that the two should be allowed to campaign and senators should be allowed to select their leaders. Lawan should not be forced on us,” he said.
Reminded that the party requires 2/3 to change Saraki, he said “We are not talking of number now. The problem is how to resolve who replaces them at the end of the day.” At the end of the meeting, Oshiomhole promised that all the issues raised would be looked into. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/apc-senators-divided-over-saraki-s-successor-265979.html This is what you see when you have a Gorilla , agbero as the APC chairman. Mystiquefia: Impeachment of a Senate President is a constitutional act clearly defined by law. To have a Senate President that goes to court in attempt to stop his impeachment process is the worst assault to our democracy and gross abuse of the Power and the Rule of Law. A process is deemed inchoate until the act is completed, only a criminal will try to stop a process defined by law just like Saraki is trying to do. I can see how gullible some Nigerians can be especially those that support Saraki's attempt to frustrate our democracy. An impeachment process can only be deemed illegal when due process is not followed. Saraki should wait untill his impeachment is completed. It is only when an impeachment is adjudged illegal by a Court of competent jurisdiction that Nigerians can sympathize with Saraki. Only the court can declare an impeachment process as illegal, a Senate President is not the court and is not empowered by law to declare an impeachment process as illegal. Saraki's desperation is really leading him to more mistakes. How can an individual shut down the National Assembly because he is afraid of being impeached? Worst still some Nigerians are clapping for the most tyrannical Suspect of Offa Robbery and Killings Nigerians. Nigerians are no longer fools, those close to Saraki should teach him the law because he has has already committed an impeachable offence, assaulted the judiciary and thereby acted as an enemy of democracy by going to court to frustrate what is permitted by law. He has assaulted the judiciary by this act of abuse of court process. Reason with your brain OP. |

Politics › Re: Why PDP Is Ten Times Better Than APC: Femi Aribisala by osazeeblue01: 4:44pm On Aug 14, 2018 |
ProjectNaija: WHY PDP IS TEN TIMES BETTER THAN APC Femi Aribisala.
APC is an expired drug. Nigerians now know what it means to vote against good luck.
I have said time and again I am not a member of the PDP. I am saying it again. I have never been and will never be a member of any political party in Nigeria. I have also said I do not know personally, have never met or even ever spoken to President Goodluck Jonathan, although I remain as ardent in his support as I was during the 2015 election.
Before you call me a liar, let me state here for the record that I finally had the privilege of speaking to President Jonathan a few weeks ago. A nice lady named Doris phoned me, pleased she was finally able to reach me. She had a simple message: President Jonathan would like to speak to me. She then gave me his phone-number.
So, I finally had the opportunity to speak to President Jonathan for the very first time. Speaking to him took me back to thinking about the heady days of the 2015 presidential elections. I am of the opinion that history is already beginning to vindicate President Jonathan and to restore his legacy, in spite of incessant APC propaganda.
We have now had three and a half years of APC rule. We have now seen what APC change actually entails. We are no longer under any illusions. Even though the APC has spent the last few years re-litigating what was wrong with the PDP, it should now be clear that the PDP is far better than the APC; at least ten times better.
Stolen ideas
In three and a half years in power, there is no single original idea of note that has emanated from the APC. What it has been doing is to claim PDP ideas as its own. APC claims credit to the TSA when in fact it is of PDP inspiration. It claims credit for the turn-around maintenance of our refineries when it is in fact a Jonathan/PDP legacy. It claims credit for increased rice production in Nigeria, when it was the PDP that achieved this.
APC claims credit for the rehabilitation of rail lines in Nigeria, but the truth is that this is essentially a PDP initiative. It claimed PDP stole the money earmarked for buying weapons to fight Boko Haram, then went ahead to use the same weapons it said were non-existent to equip the army to fight Boko Haram. NERC Chairman, Sam Amadi, stressed that improvements in power supply are the result of the efforts made by the Jonathan administration.
If we are now celebrating the end of polio in Nigeria, it has nothing to do with the APC and everything to do with the PDP. If we are indeed well on our way to self-sufficiency in rice production, it is because of the activities of the PDP, and not because of the inactivity of APC. In three and a half years, APC has added precious little to PDP achievements. On the contrary, it has degraded many milestones.
From bad to worse
Bill Gates hailed Nigeria’s fight against polio under Jonathan and the PDP as one of the great world achievements of 2014. However, the same Bill Gates identifies Nigeria under Buhari and the APC as one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth with the fourth worst maternal mortality rate in the old. He also identified the government’s economic policy as dismally ineffectual.
Indeed, everything under this APC government has gone from bad to worse. The economy is worse. The cost of living is worse. The security situation is worse. The naira is worse. The unity of Nigerians is worse. The corruption index is worse. The NEPA situation is worse. The ministers in the presidential cabinet are worse. The liberty of Nigerians is worse. The rule of law is worse. The political climate is toxic.
We are not just saddled with an incompetent government. We are saddled with one that merely watches while we are being murdered in our homes, farms and churches. We are saddled with a government that tells us the choice we have is either to lose our land to carpetbaggers or lose our lives. We are saddled with a government that defines itself as a northern, instead of a national government; with all its security architecture in the hands of northerners.
In 16 years in power, the PDP not only cleared Nigeria’s debts of some $30 billion, it borrowed a total of only 6 trillion naira. However, in only 3 years, the APC has returned Nigeria to debtor status and borrowed a whopping 11 trillion naira. We are yet to see what all this new debt has been spent on.
Lack of integrity
The APC is the party that boasts of integrity but lacks integrity. This ensures it embarrasses itself with one scandal after the other. From the Babachir Lawal’s ‘grasscutter’ scandal, the Abdulrashid Maina’s pension and recall scam, the NHIS scandal, the EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu’s scandal to the recent Kemi Adeosun NYSC certificate forgery scandal; the APC fails to act against corruption while nevertheless fooling itself that it is a champion of anti-corruption.
Unlike the proverbial charity, APC’s anti-corruption does not begin at home in the APC. The party encourages and molly-cuddles the corrupt. Indeed, it has an open-door policy for the corrupt. Once you are in APC or you decamp to APC, you are automatically whitewashed from corruption allegations.
Once you have corruption allegations to answer before the EFCC, all you need to do is defect to the APC and you will be welcome with open arms. Your corruption case will also suddenly disappear. This is the case with Godswill Akpabio. He had a pending case of corruption with the EFCC but has now quickly defected from the PDP to the APC. That singular act is likely to whitewash him and dustbin his case.
Anti-corruption for the APC is declaring Rotimi Amaechi innocent until proven guilty; while declaring Diezani Allison-Madueke guilty until proven innocent.
Whatever anyone may think or say about the PDP, it is a national party. As a matter of fact, it remains the only national party in Nigeria to date in this republic. Its membership and strength stretch from North to South and from East to West.
Not so the APC. The APC is a sectarian party. It is an agglomeration of regional parties that merged together for the sake of capturing the presidency. Once this happened, their sectarianism came back to the fore.
On his inauguration, the president told Nigerians: “I belong to everybody and I belong to nobody.” However, the APC has turned out to be essentially a North-west and South-west party that has effectively divided Nigeria along regional lines. On his election, the president went to the U.S. where he declared that: “The constituents (that) gave me 97% cannot in all honesty be treated on some issues with constituencies that gave me 5%.”
That means the president can largely overlook the South-East and the South-South in appointments. It also means Fulani herdsmen from the North can continue to kill innocent farmers all over the country while government sees no evil and hears no evil.
When a substantive INEC chairman was finally approved, the president broke another protocol by choosing a man from his own region, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, continuing the lopsided policy whereby the chief organs of the federal government (the presidency, the legislature and the judiciary) are now all headed by Northerners.
Champions of hypocrisy
Nevertheless, there are certain areas where there is no doubt the APC is ten times better than the PDP. One of these areas is in hypocrisy. The APC is the undisputed champion of hypocrisy. It contradicts its own vaunted values repeatedly without batting an eyelid. In the area of hypocrisy, the PDP is certainly no match for the APC.
Recently, Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, shocked Nigerians by launching a so-called National Campaign Against Fake News. What is so amazing about this boldface duplicity is that Lai Mohammed himself is the chief exponent of fake news in Nigeria. Lai Mohammed urged Nigerians to “Say No to Fake News.” However, his very campaign is fake news. Here is a classic example of the pot calling the kettle black.
Lai Mohammed is Nigeria’s version of Iraq’s Comical Ali, the sobriquet for Saddam Hussein’s Minister of Information whose job was to give false reports of Iraqi successes during the 1990 war. It was Lai Mohammed who dazzled Nigerians with the fake news that the Boko Haram was responsible for the scarcity of tomatoes. He told Nigerians President Buhari was hale and hearty in London, only for the president himself to return and say he had never felt so sick in his life.
APC would have Nigerians believe the lie that the recent disgraceful storming of the National Assembly by the DSS was orchestrated by Bukola Saraki, the Senate president. That is a load of hogwash. Lai Mohammed also said the gory tales of herdsmen murdering hapless Nigerians is fake news. If you believe this outright falsehood, then you will believe anything.
A newspaper commentator had this to say: “For Lie Mohammed to advise to media not to yield their platform to spread fake news is like the devil advocating to his subject not to tell lies.”
Buyers’ remorse
It is not surprising, therefore, that quite a number of those who left the PDP for the APC four years ago have become so disgusted with the APC that, like prodigal sons, they have returned to the PDP. They include Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president of Nigeria; Bukola Saraki, Senate President; Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano; Senator Bernabas Gemade and Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State.
Many who waxed lyrical about the virtues of the APC four years ago now hate the APC. They include President Obasanjo, Wole Soyinka and Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka.
Nevertheless, we cannot insist APC did not bring change. It brought change but it was change that pauperized Nigeria. APC brought change from peace to restiveness; it brought change from gainful employment to job insecurity and massive unemployment; it brought change from national unity to sectarianism; it brought change from good health to medical check-ups; it brought change from life to death by herdsmen.
It brought change from 1 dollar exchanging for 190 naira to one dollar exchanging for 360 naira; it brought change from 87-naira fuel to 145-naira fuel; it brought change from 20 tomatoes selling for 50 naira to one tomato selling for 100 naira; it brought change from hope to despair; it brought change from light to darkness. Now that is change we can certainly do without.
APC is an expired drug. Nigerians now know what it means to vote against good luck.
Femi Aribisala Is only those that have eyes can see the difference. Politics apart. APC are empty vessels.. APC government lacks direction. APC are seriously moving Nigerians backward. My prayers is that we shouldn't be deceive with a course #4k or #5k during 2019elections |

agwom: Kano state government said it has discovered the sum of over $1 million allegedly paid by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to a university in Ukraine where no Kano state student was studying, reports The Nation.
The senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Higher Education, Dr. Hussaini Akilu Jarma, let the cat out of bag, Tuesday, during the inauguration of the State Scholarship Disbursement Committee.
Jarma said the questionable payment was made by Kwankwaso as part of his foreign scholarship programme.
A statement by Abba Anwar, chief press secretary to the Kano state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said, “Investigation reveals that a sum of $1,304,618 was abandoned in one University in Ukraine, when the sum was taken there during the last administration in the state.”
“No student was sent to the university at all. The money was sent unattended and un-utilised. We said business should not be as usual anymore,” he added.

Porsche on Monday announced that its new 911 GT3 RS will come with rear and rear side Gorilla Glass windows in order to cut weight .
The Gorilla Glass (a common name for thin-film glass) is a tough, lightweight, unshatterable and scratch-resistant glass made by Corning Inc. It is commonly used as a protective window for your mobile phones, Television and laptop display.
The tough but light material will make the new 911 GT3 RS's rear and rear side windows to weigh just 3.7 kilograms (8.2 pounds) compared to that of Porsche 911 with the same dimensions that weighs 5.8 kilograms (12.8 pounds)
Porsche said the Gorilla glass also has other benefits apart from its light weight. It can also block 99 percent of ultraviolet radiation from the sun while the traditional safety glass can only block about 70 percent .

It also admitted that the Gorilla glass comes with some disadvantages. Presently, it costs more than the traditional glass it would partially replace due to its limited demand in the automotive market .
An additional problem is the flexibility. The Side windows you roll down can't be made of Gorilla Glass because they could flex at high speeds, and not seal correctly when rolled up.

Last year at the CES in Las Vegas, Corning equipped an electric car with a Gorilla Glass windshield, sun roof, rear window, dashboard, touchscreen steering wheel display and a control panel to demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of the glass in automotive use.
Some of the leading automakers are currently working with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Automotive team to change and improve the driving experience.
Do you love to see your beloved car brands come with Gorilla glass windows and touchscreen displays
