momonny: After four years of spadework, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday inaugurated the new international terminal of Port Harcourt Airport, in Omagwa, Rivers State.
The terminal was built by the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company Nigeria Limited as part of the $500 million concessional loan from the Export – Import Bank of China.
Buhari landed about 12.30 pm and was driven in a convoy to the location of the new terminal.
Speaking at the ceremony Buhari said the Port Harcourt International Airport terminal will play a significant role in promoting economic prosperity of Rivers State.
He said the new terminal will increase passenger growth as well as facilitate the movement of cargo.
He said the facility will bring the airport to international standard to create economic growth for Rivers State as well as the country.
He said the concession of four international airport terminals in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt will improve infrastructure in Nigeria.
He said the construction of new terminals will be linked to the Warri Rail Line.
Buhari said government is making deliberate efforts to increase handling capacities and infrastructure of the nation’s transport sector which was not taken care of since the 70s and 80s when they were built.
He said it was part of his promises to upgrade Nigeria’s transport infrastructure in all geo political zones of the country.
The president said:” Today’s commissioning is a significant landmark for international travellers especially those in the South South region.
“Not much was done after these airports were built in the 70s and 80s to increase handling capacity of the airports and so we needed to take decisive steps to ensure that our terminals meet the minimum international global standards.
“In the 2017 budget, I promised to upgrade Nigeria’s transport and complete a number projects that will be beneficiary to the nation economically and these include construction of new terminals, railways and power projects.
“Today’s commissioning is a direct policy to sustain economic growth in all geo political zones of the country,” the president said.
In his remarks, Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika said the project commenced in 2014 and was inherited from the previous administration at 30 per cent completion in 2015.
He said despite the inherent challenges associated with the project, Buhari gave approval for the lapses to be corrected.
He listed the challenges to include: inadequate power supply, litigation, lack of apron space which have been addressed.
Speaking earlier, Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike assured the president that the people of Rivers State and indeed the South South are happy with the project stating that it would foster further investment in the state.
Wike said; “I can tell you this today that the people of Rivers State and the Niger Delta are happy with you Mr. President. This terminal here will help the drive of the state to grow the economy and it will attract investment to the state. What has happened here shows that Rivers State is safe, Rivers State is secured and if it was not CCECC will not have been here to construct this.” U

hisexcellency34: Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, embattled National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said on Tuesday that Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State was blackmailing him so that he would succumb to the governor’s selfish desires.
The governor had, on Sunday, led a delegation of leaders from Ogun State to the official residence of the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, over the ongoing controversy concerning who would fly the flag of the APC in the state governorship election in 2019.
Those who attended the meeting included the Alake of Egbaland and Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Aremu Gbadebo; the Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and a former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo.
The national leadership of the party had endorsed Dapo Abiodun, who is from Remo, as the party’s candidate while Amosun was supporting the candidature of Adekunle Akinlade, from Yewa.
There were newspaper reports that during the meeting with the Ogun State leaders, the President issued an ultimatum to Oshiomhole to ‘clear the mess’ which emanated in the wake of the governorship primaries in some state chapters of the party and Ogun State.
Amosun also accused Oshiomhole of conniving “with a cabal in Lagos” to write fake results after the party’s primaries which produced Dapo Abiodun as the governorship candidate. However, speaking in a chat with Daily Independent yesterday, an aide of Oshiomhole said the “the National Chairman is surprised by the statements in the media that he was given a matching order by President Buhari to clear the mess arising from the primaries, especially in Ogun State.”
According to him, the news is a figment of the imagination of the sponsors as Oshiomhole was not in attendance when the President hosted the leaders from Ogun State.
The aide said: “There was nothing like that. The report was sponsored by Governor Amosun in his desperate attempt to ensure he has his way at all cost. Oshiomhole was not even present at the meeting the President had with traditional rulers from Ogun state.
“Amosun was the one who told journalists that that was what the President said during the meeting. There was nothing like that. Rather, the President told Oshiomhole to be firm, insist on due process and resist any form of impunity.
“His claim that Oshiomhole connived with a cabal in Lagos is totally false. If Oshiomhole had connived with the said cabal in Lagos and his candidate emerged the winner, would he be making these accusations?” https://www.independent.ng/apc-crisis-amosun-blackmailing-me-oshiomhole-cries-out/

8Ebisco: A member of Sokoto State House of Assembly Alhaji Muhammad Bashir, who lost in the bid to secure the All Progressive Congress (APC) ticket for the House of Representatives, has dumped the party.
Bashir said on the floor of the assembly on Wednesday in Sokoto that he has now shifted loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bashir was beaten in the primary for Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency by Alhaji Abubakar Yabo.
“I wish to formally announce my defection from the APC to PDP as provided by Section 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
Reacting on the development, Alhaji Sani Yakubu (APC-Gudu), said the member had been hobnobbing with the PDP for long, adding, “so this defection has not come to us as a surprise.”
Yakubu disclosed that even after Bashir lost the ticket for the federal constituency, the APC still returned his state Assembly ticket for him to contest.
“We wish him well in his new political party, and want to assure APC members in his constituency that his departure will translate into huge success for our party,” he said.

Politics › Re: "Atiku Is Coming Back To Create A Paradise For Thieves" - Sowore by osazeeblue01: 12:48pm On Oct 17, 2018 |
whizpet: Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused his opponent in the 2019 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, of planning a return to power to allegedly create a paradise for thieves who'll loot the country blind. While addressing the public at a summit, "African Leadership In The Millenium", a part of Felabration 2018, in Lagos State on Monday, October 15, 2018, Sowore said a victory for Atiku, a former vice president, or incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari, will further stall the nation's progress.
He said, "The last government is always better than the next. In fact, if you ask me which is the worst government, it hasn't come yet.
"It's coming next year if we vote Buhari or Atiku. It'll be the worst government we'll have because both of them have unfinished business with Nigeria.
"Atiku was not happy that he didn't steal enough when he was with Obasanjo. Maybe he didn't get enough licenses for his universities, or maybe he didn't get enough oil blocs for himself or probably didn't marry enough wives.
"So, when they return, they're coming with vengeance; vengeance on our resources and our people.
"Atiku is coming back to create a paradise for thieves and you can see the people who are excited about them.
"They're either people who stole, who didn't steal enough last time, or people who are aspiring to become thieves, including Donald Duke.
"Same thing with Buhari. If Buhari returns next year, he'll take away all forms of pretence about human rights, about his support for Islamic extremism, about his respect for your farms. He'll take it all because at that time, he'll have nothing at stake."
We need revolution in 2019 - Sowore Sowore also said Nigerians cannot hope to simply have power voluntarily transfered from one generation to another and must fight for it through a deliberate revolution.
He pointed out that the system is rigged to keep the old establishment in power and that Nigerians must resist it so as to actualise the country of their dreams and not the one of their ineffective leaders.
He said, "The solution is a revolution. We're not going anywhere without adding the revolutionary fervour to this coming election.
"Anyone who's still under the illusion that these old baggers, as we call them, will hand over power voluntarily to us, we're deceiving ourselves.
"Anyone under the illusion that the plastic cards that we refer to as permanent voter's card (PVC) will guarantee you a transfers of power from one generation to another, you're wasting your time.
"Of course a few of you might vote, but your votes will not count because it's been designed to fail from the beginning."
The 2019 presidential election, scheduled for February 16, 2019, is expected to be keenly-contested between Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) who served as vice president between 1999 and 2007 and lost in the 2007 presidential election.
