@The enlightened minds only, I’ve been searching for a job with a degree cert. for years and I’m sick and tired, cos I’m now old. No employer want to even imagine me work for them anymore as they keep telling me my age is on the high side. I’ve sworn affidavits times without numbers but that still not help matters I kept adjusting my age every now and then till the court officials recognized my punctuality. Till now I’m still at home managing survival. But my point is this, while in school I used to be very passionate about speaking or addressing my class which my course mates liked me for, whenever my class rep need to talk with the class he thus consult me for assistance, so till date, I still have passions whenever I see microphone in any gathering, I always wish if they could invite me over for any speech. Haven said all these, it means I have keen passion for public speaking, although I’m not as funny as those comedians, but I do have sense of humor. Please is there any public speaking study site online or school in Nigeria that I can attend to get myself well equipped to become more refined? Any of your suggestion on how to make money from this my idea will be welcome. |

Transcorp Seals N585b Agreement With Hilton Int'l By Aaron Ukodie ,Deputy Business Editor Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc, Transcorp announced on Tuesday that it has signed a $5 billion (N 585 billion) strategic partnership deal with Hilton International Hotel Group. The company said the deal, which was signed in Lagos over the weekend, demonstrates its resilience and ability to attract foreign investment. The money that will aid Transcorp to focus on developing other business lines apart from telecommunications involves the development of ten new hotels in Africa over the next five years. Transcorp, which took over the Abuja Hilton Hotels about three years ago, has made a success in its management. But its bid to have a hold in the telecommunications sector with the acquisition of 51 per cent of NITEL in November 2006 has not succeeded. Transcorp, which is currently disputing its management role in the first national carrier, could lose part of its shares in the company to a new core investor in the months ahead. The Hilton hotel chain is owned by the Blackstone group, the largest quoted private equity firm on the New York Stock Exchange with over $300 Billion of managed funds. According to the company statement the money will also help the Transcorp hotel in Abuja, which is adjudged by many as the most successful within the Hilton chain in the Africa/Middle East region to dramatically expand its operation to include a world class convention center, office building and a Conrad Hilton apartment building. Andre Herrenschmidt, General Manager of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja said, "The Hilton's partnership with the new leadership of Transcorp is extremely rewarding and professional. We see a bright new future and tremendous success for Hilton across Africa." In his comments, Transcorp's Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tom Iseghohi remarked "Our (Transcorp's) focus is to utilize our global credibility to develop world class partnerships that will propel the Nigerian economy to what it ought to be. Partnership with the Hilton is just the beginning of several new alliances that we are working on to enable further creation of jobs thereby enhancing the development of the economy". It will be recalled that the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja has continuously improved on occupancy and revenue targets since the take over of the hotel by Transcorp. |

First Bank set to absorb N250-billion from offer 23 September, 2007 08:00:00 ABDUL IMOYO Font size: •sets Nigeria’s record total applications Indications are rife in Lagos that First Bank of Nigeria plc (FBN) will absorb as much as half of about N500-billion received during its recent public offer. The bank on May 14, launched an offer to raise N100-billion through the issuance of 3,121,015,920 new shares made up of a rights issue of 1,496,762,682 units on the basis of one new ordinary share for every seven ordinary shares held by existing shareholders, and an offer for subscription of 1,624,253,238 ordinary shares of 50 kobo each at N31 and N33 a share, respectively. Business Day learnt that the bank received a record 1.2-million applications from investors, leaving for behind the existing record of 400,000 applications in Zenith Bank’s initial public offering (IPO). It has turned out to be the most subscribed offer in Nigeria’s history in terms of cash. Investigations show that the bank authorities may have resolved to absorb N250-billion of the total N500-billion realised from the exercise. Business Day learnt that the value of all applications in respect of the offer totalled N500-billion indicating an oversubscription of 400 percent. Market sources also disclosed that the bank had been given the go-ahead to take up 25 percent of the oversubscribed shares as indicated in the prospectus. It means that the bank will have to absorb N250-billion and allot shares in that proportion. With this development, analysts say the paid-up share capital of the company which is currently 10.359-billion units is likely to double. First Bank is not alone in the quest to push share capital above the N200-billion. Reports indicate that Union Bank plans to raise an extra N180-billion from a strategic core investor. This bloated share capital, analysts say, may become a challenge on the banks’ earnings potential in the short term. They argue that just like the other banks that have raised capital from the market, the banks’ challenges will be more in terms of deploying capital to boost their earnings. According to analysts, although there will be more funds at their disposal, earnings will automatically be diluted with an increasing price earning ratio. In the case of First Bank, Abiye Karibi-White, stockbroker with Nova Securities, says the increase in share capital will definitely put pressure on the bank to meet shareholders’ expectations in terms of returns such as bonuses and dividends. "For now, we can rule out expectations of bonuses from the bank because the earnings would have been diluted by the time the shares are listed. That will also affect the share price and it means that it may not go beyond what it is now." Kennedy Edah-Ikeh of ICMG Securities Limited contends that First Bank’s price earning ratio, which is an indication of the growth potentials, will automatically go up after the listing of the shares. He says: "In terms of the price going up, the FBN might not be able to meet that for now because the new share capital would reduce the earnings per share to about N1.00, while the price earning ratio would also be high. Besides, it would be difficult to declare a bonus issue on this volume in the short term." Gerald Ibe, CEO of Dakal Services, also notes that the new structure will affect earnings in the short term, adding that a lot of people who bought the shares at a premium while the offer was ongoing would have to hold on to their shares at least for now. However, they express optimism about the future of the banks, saying that with more money at their disposal they will be able to do more business and carry on proper banking processes. This also indicates that they will be able to lend more money to their customers and businesses. According to Karibi-White, the management of FBN as well as other banks would have to be on their toes and be more creative in terms of product development and innovative banking products that are tailored to the needs of their varied customers. Other analysts note that FBN still has a strong public appeal and perception because of its performance in the past six years. The bank has consistently paid dividends and declared bonuses to its shareholders during the period under review. Olawale Idowu of Hamilton Hammer & Co. Limited says the banks are already coming up with series of products for the needs of their customers. But he would like the Central Bank of Nigeria to be consistent with its regulatory functions so that the banking terrain would turn out for the better. |
Why investors buy Transcorp shares in secondary market – Onyiuke Written by Peter Egwuatu Wednesday, 02 April 2008 THE Director General of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Professor Ndi Okereke Onyiuke has said that despite the slow pace in the activities of NITEL and MTEL investors still scramble for the shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) Plc because of the company’s basket of investments across the country. OnyiukeShe disclosed this last week in Lagos, stressing that NITEL and MTEL would bounce back as soon as government dilutes its stake to give way for the foreign investors to have 51 per cent of the controlling shares According to her “ The foreign investor has given conditions that they needed 51 per cent equity fo them to come in. This is because they are coming with their expertise and as well as money. So a rational investor would put his eyes where his money is .” She further noted that investors are scrambling to get Transcorp shares in the secondary market and they cannot get it. “Even when the price was as low as N2.00 per share people still rush to buy them because they have hope and confidence in the company. Besides investment in telecommunication, Transcorp has numerous investments that are doing well. |
NigComSat to hold 15% NITEL equity By Everest Amaefule, Abuja Published: Monday, 31 Mar 2008 Baring any last minute reversal, 15 per cent out of the 27 per cent equity interest reserved for the Federal Government in the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, will be bequeathed to the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited. This is part of the recommendations of the presidential committee set up by President Umar Yar’Adua to reconcile the position of the Nigerian Communications Commission and the quest of NigComSat to acquire a spectrum to offer last mile telecommunication services. The committee, chaired by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, is made up of top government officials including the Minister of Information, and Communications, Mr. John Odey and that of Science and Technology, Mrs. Grace Ekpiwhre. Others are the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Mr. Ernest Ndukwe; Managing Director, NigComSat Limited, Mr. Ahmed Rufai, and Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mrs. Irene Chigbue. On the other hand, the National Committee on Privatisation also chaired by Jonathan, has also received the submission of its technical committee led by the former Managing Director of the defunct FSB International Bank, Mr. Mohammed Hayatudeen. The report had recommended 27 per cent stake for the Federal Government and an equity of 22 per cent for current majority stakeholder, Transnational Corporation. This means that the Federal Government will cede 22 per cent from its current 49 per cent holding, while Transcorp will cede 29 per cent from its current 51 per cent holding. Integrating the two reports, part of Federal Government’s 27 per cent stake in the First National Operator will be bequeathed to NigComSat, which has made a case to enter into provision of telecommunications services to end users rather than being restricted to the provision of bandwidth to operators and other clients. Our correspondent also learnt that the Federal Government’s reserved shares of 27 per cent may also be split further to accommodate First Bank, which had lost $100m in 2002 to Investors International of London Limited in the bid to acquire 51 per stake in NITEL. Now you can see the hope of TRANSCORP now. |

@ real investors, Remember it takes some time for every new company to stand it,s ground even in individual's level of direct business. in stock market, whatever goes up come down, what comes down goes up as well, i,m writing to investors and not speculators, GIGOERS, ZIZOERS, RIROERS. real investors know the point i,m driving at, go for abandoned stock for the now, the market will always make it,s turn around, just imagine the conglomerate sector, every reasonable investor will begin to understand this now. NO MORE PENNY STOCK IN NSE, the next bullish turn will take you up, position now while the price is low today, where some are crying, some will still be rejoicing, that,s the market nature. it has happened before, in cadbury's case, after the smell of a dead rat , the train then left the station even till now people are still running after it. TRANSCORP IS FOR REAL INVESTORS TODAY. |

@ ddinvestors, According to Buffet, position on any stock when it crashes so as to pick ur profit along the upriding, i just bought some TRANSCORP today, inasmuch OBJ is still alive TRANSCORP must grow and triumph, mind u OBJ is still in operation. Yar Adua is just a figure head as expected by OBJ. NITEL/MTEL is already a liability, no foreign investor will want to have such liability. So watchout TRANSCORP/Federal govt is still in possession, they will turn it around in another style. but the old staffs should go look for something else doing for the mean time, for their expected salary arears is the greatest liability, for they stand the biggest threat to federal govt/transcorp to incure and no foreign investor will wanna purchase any liability instead of asset. THAT,S THE KOKO |
