Pastor’s Wife Arrested For Kidnapping

There was confusion at Fagba, Iju, Lagos state, when a mother of five, later identified as Mrs. Folake Owoseni, was arrested by officials of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) , Iju branch, at the weekend.

P.M.News learnt that Folake, wife of a pastor of Foursquare Gospel Church, Iju, attempted to kidnap a child, at 12, Bamgbose Street, New Oko-Oba, in the area.

According to Mrs. Adeola James, the mother of Ayomide, the victim, she was indoors, when the old woman came into the house inquiring about a teacher but suddenly grabbed her child and attempted to run away, adding, “I was surprised and afraid, but shouted and stopped her, while my landlord was alerted.

The incident was reported to members of the OPC causing its officials to promptly arrest the old woman for further interrogation. Some residents who spoke to P.M.News said it had become very common to see some people who pretend to be family friends in order to facilitate their attempt to kidnap innocent children.

Pastor Owoseni, the husband of the suspect, told P.M.News that his wife is sick and receiving treatment at Yaba Psychiatric Hospital and to support his claim, he showed a list of drugs recommended for her to those present at the scene. He further told P.M.News that his wife was to accompany him to the Foursquare Camp at Ajebo, but could not find her, only to hear that she has been caught attempting to kidnap a child.

He pleaded with the OPC officials and the mother of the child to temper mercy with justice and let his wife go so that she could continue her treatment. As the matter lingered, policemen from Oko-Oba police station intervened and took the woman away.

Feud between Ooni and Alafin gets messier
Written by OLA AJAYI
Saturday, February 14, 2009
IBADAN — The perennial royal feud between the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and the Ooni of Ife got messier yesterday as the former said with the outburst of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade against him at an event to celebrate the Late Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was a clear demonstration of ignorance of history.

Oba Adeyemi said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan yesterday. Alaafin said, contrary to the claim of Oba Sijuwade, he had been having a running battle since 1980 for dabbling into issues not in any way connected with him.

While faulting the claim of Ooni that he was running a dead empire, he said since Oba Sijuwade was glorifying himself as the chairman of the Old Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, he had shot himself in his leg.

He said, “I have fifteen of such absurdities arisen from their account of their own history but I will limit it to the nine absurdities listed above for thinkers to sew together the pieces of these illogicalities and absurdities inherent in the origin of the Ooni as given by their own historian.

Alaafin argued that from the Oral tradition of Ife, one could see that Oduduwa was never Ooni and Oranmiyan, a son of Oduduwa successfully drove away the Ooni to Efon-Alaye and nothing was heard of him again.

“Therefore, the statement of Oba Okunade that Alaafin was his son contradicted Ife traditional history as handed over to him by his fore bears, his assertions and claims defy logical reasoning. These show the inconsistencies of the Ooni or that he is not in tune with his own history.”

He added that the importance of the authority and supremacy of the Alaafin could now be explained in the context of modern empirical in controvertible record.

He went further that the “internecine fratricidal war ravaging the Yorubaland from 1870-1886, on 15th of October 1881, the Alaafin of Oyo wrote a letter through Rev. J. B. Wood, the Secretary of the CMS, imploring him to contact the Imperial Majesty, the Queen Victorial of Great Britain to come and intervene to stop the war ravaging the Yoruba Nation.”, he said.

Alaafin of Oyo to Ooni of Ife: Mind your own business

From Iyabo Lawal, Ibadan

THE Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi yesterday faulted some remarks allegedly made by the Ooni of Ife Oba Okunade Sijuade on the leadership crisis rocking the Oyo State traditional institution, saying his position on the matter is against historical facts.

Oba Adeyemi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fehintola Azeez which was made available to reporters in Ibadan also accused the Ife monarch of distorting history, urged him to restrict himself to issues within his domain.

The Alaafin who is currently locked in a supremacy battle between the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi over the headship of the state traditional council said since the issue at hand had no bearing with Ile-Ife, Oba Sijuwade has no business with it.

Both Odulana and Oyewumi had been at loggerheads with the Alaafin over his permanent Chairmanship of the Obas council in the state.

The duo had called for rotation of the chairmanship position among the three leading Obas and has since boycotted the council meetings.

While the Ooni, in an interview at the Centenary birthday of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, gave hard knocks to Oba Adeyemi over his stance on the matter and tacitly supported the Olubadan and Soun on their clamour for rotational chairmanship, Oba Adeyemi, in his statement, said the position of the Ooni on the matter is one sided and an invitation to anarchy.

On the claims by the Ooni that Oba Adeyemi was ruling over a 'dead empire,' the Alaafin reminded the royal father that as far back as 1938, while his position was listed as the first in the rank of first class Obas, the Ooni was listed as the fifth.

He said, "The Ooni, who is now claiming superiority over the Alaafin, as recent as 1938, was listed as the fifth in rank among the first class traditional rulers in Yorubaland, while the Alaafin was listed as the first".

you are making it sound as if dating means "sleeping togeda or having some kinda intimate relationship wt someone

maybe she meant, dat she went out on a few or more dates whilst "with" her hubby,if u read carefuly she did not say "i dated other men, whilst dating my hubby" yea she might have gone out on a couple of dates wt other men,but still does not make her a cheat d way some of u r putting it

everything stops when i am finally a wife
It amazes me how we women justify cheating whenever it's from our side but condemn men at the slightest opportunity. Yes, they were not married but they were dating  and going out with other men while she was with her fiance constitutes cheating.

Will you let your boyfriend date other women freely as long as you people are not married?. And who told you there was no sex/kissing involved in those dates? Just because she didn't go in details doesn't mean they never happened.  It's not as if you want her to say that she was bleeping other men while she was with her husband.

Girl, dating can mean anything and it's only the two people involved have the power to define it.

as long as no man has put the  ring on my finger or taking me to the altar,i have a right to go out on a date wt other men,cos no man has me yet
Of course, as long as you let the men to do the same with other women while courting you.

Man jailed for insulting Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State

An area court in Jalingo on Wednesday, sentenced one Shuaibu Bakari (25) to six months imprisonment without an option of fine, for insulting Gov. Danbaba Suntai of Taraba.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Iorbee Elijah told the court that Bakari committed the offence on Dec. 12, 2008, contrary to section 113 of the penal code.

Elija said that the accused called the governor a ``liar’’ during the inauguration of the Jalingo Local Government Council Secretariat.

He told the court that the accused shouted ``Karya ne,’’ while Suntai was addressing the gathering, meaning that the governor was telling lies.

He explained that the action of the accused was capable of causing a disturbance by inciting the public against the governor.

The prosecution called three witnesses who testified before the court.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency, saying that he was a first offender.

Bakari apologised to the court and promised never to commit such an offence again.

The Judge, Musa Iliya, advised the accused to be of good behaviour after serving his jail term.

He warned him that the court would not be lenient with him if he appeared before it again.

If all 43 girls had been confirmed virgins by "Dr Ekemode", how comes only one girl got to clinch the crown then? Can one girl be more virginal than the other?
Yes. Some girls are virgins but have kissed a man or allowed a man touch their boobs before. That one na 3rd class virgin.

Some virgins have neither been touched anywhere by a man nor have they kissed a man before but they've thought or fantasized about men and sex before: That one na 2nd class virgin.

The ones that have neither thought nor gone near a man in their lives even if it's inside the church or bus are the 1st class virgins and they win the award.

Yes I had dated other men before I met my husband. And I still dated other men while with him and he never stopped me from dating them. We had a very comfortable relationship and no pressure from anywhere.
Omotola is half educated, so it's either she doesn't understand the meaning of dating or her husband is sick unless she's lying. Which Nigerian man will let you date other men with him?.

When virgin queens come to town
Written by Okey Ndiribe & Ebun Babalola
Friday, February 13, 2009

Although the conference hall at the headquarters of Surulere Local Government in Lagos where the maiden edition of Miss Virginity Pageant was held penultimate Friday was not packed full with the high and mighty usually associated with the more flamboyant female contests, the audience evinced reverence for the 43 virgin girls who attended the event.

https://odili.net/news/source/2009/feb/13/vanguard/images/MetroVirgin.jpg
Miss Virginity, odekeye flanked by 1st and 2nd runners up

However, when the event got to a climax, reverence gave way to excitement as 23 year-old Miss Titilayo Amudat Odekeye was announced as Miss Virginity 2009. The 43 girls had all been confirmed virgins the previous day by Dr. Ekemode- a Lagos-based consultant gynaecologist.

Speaking to Vanguard Metro shortly after, Odekeye said: “ I am happy and I give God the glory that I emerged the winner of the crown". The event was organised by Nigerian Virgin Girls, a subsidiary of Just For You Media.

Although she had no inkling that she would wear the crown when she entered for the contest, Odekeye prayed to God to give her victory.

Speaking on what she plans to do during her reign she said: “ What I intend to do during my reign as Miss Virginity is to go out there and encourage young girls to keep their virginity until they get married”.

She pledged that she would continue to work with any individual or group for the purpose of encouraging virginity among unmarried young girls in the country.

Miss Odekeye who emerged Miss Virginity among 25 other contestants that vied for the crown, is a final year Microbiology student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye (formerly known as Ogun State University).

She had sought for and received the support of her parents before she attended the programme that was organised by Nigerian Virgin Girls.

All the virgin girls agreed that it was not easy remaining chaste in various parts of the country where they lived.

For instance 20 year-old Isijola Adebola, a student of Lagos State Skills Acquisition Centre confirmed it had not been easy for her.

Said she: “However I was determined to remain a virgin until I get married right from my childhood days. This is because I know my husband and his family would have a lot of respect for me when they know I remained a virgin before marriage”.

She said although she had some boyfriends in the past none of them lasted for more than six months mainly because she refused to succumb to their demands.

Said she: “ I always told the few boyfriends I have had the point beyond which they could not go in our relationships. Some accepted but some did not”.

Speaking during the occasion, the founder of the organisation, Princess Adunni Adediran disclosed that the programme was initiated to reduce immorality that has become the order of the day in the country.

According to her, “This is the second time we will be organising this programme. The first time was in January 2008 when about 60 girls registered and were examined by Dr. Ekemode. At the end, 43 virgin girls were certified.

Adunni told Vanguard Metro she had conceived the programme for a long time but was unable to commence because of financial constraints.

Said she: “When I looked at the way young girls were being molested and dumped through having sexual intercourse, I said to myself this must stop. This is because it is after de-flowering them, that they will be abandoned. It is after the man might have slept with a girl that he will see her bad legs or that her nose is too long. At times, these girls would have gone through series of abortions.”

She said, some of these girls end up suffering from mental disorder or other deadly diseases including staphylococcus, gonorrhea and the dreadful HIV & AIDS.

While calling on parents and guardians to support the initiative, she said, it is an avenue where Nigerian girls will be taught the essence of keeping their virginity. This will also bring respect for the wife and her children’s children.

According to her, it is also an avenue to reduce promiscuous acts and indecency amongst girls in Nigeria and to tell the men that the girls can still say no to immorality and wait till the night of their marriage because there is more joy in waiting for such a time.

When asked whether there is any religious restriction, he said the progranmme is open to all races including the daughter of a Pope, an Imam or an herbalist adding that her business is to ensure young girls keep their body till the night of marriage.

Her words: “We want people to begin to live normal lives where young girls would hate sex before marriage as children born by such women will know that their mothers were not promiscuous before getting married. Even the in-laws will respect such a lady and the community where they live will praise her.”

Speaking earlier at the occasion , Ambassador Segun Olusola praised the girls for keeping themselves chaste adding that it was not only Miss Virginity that was the winner, but all of them. He urged all of them to feel free to come to him for assistance at any time. Also present at the occasion was Dr. Yemisi Pitan, a clinical psychologist who gave the girls some tips on how to keep themselves safe.

“ Don’t walk in a dark place; don’t visit a boy alone; don’t take any drink after you have left it for a while because you could be drugged”, she said.

Rep's daughter kidnapped in Abuja
By Tunke-Aye Bisina (Asaba) and Otei Oham (Abuja)

* Delta Chief Accountant's daughter too

Kidnappers have slithered from the outer states into Abuja where, on Thursday, they demanded N100 million to free Theresa, daughter of a member of the House of Representatives, Christopher Berewari, whom they snatched from the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) where she is a student.

advertisement

The horror spread South, as eight-year-old Tare, daughter of the Chief Accountant of Delta State Ministry of Lands, Surveys and Urban Development, Charles Isiaye, was abducted in Asaba.

It is suspected that Theresa's captors came from a state in the Niger Delta.

Berewari represents Opobo/Nkoro/Andoni Federal Constituency of Rivers State.

Gladys, wife of former Minister of State for Petroleum, Edmund Daukoru, was kidnapped last week and later released after an alleged payment of $2.5 million ransom.

House member, Chukwuma Umeoji (LP, Anambra), who announced Theresa's abduction, said the kidnappers have been calling Berewari on the telephone to negotiate their price.

"We just got news that the daughter of one of our members, Christopher, from Rivers State, has just been adducted while in school at the University of Abuja. We hear the people behind it are demanding N100 million as ransom before they will release the poor girl. It is worrisome.

"I am now compelled to come up with a motion to address this, and this will be next week," Umeoji added.

Another member of the House, Sekonte Davies (Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency of Rivers), wondered why it has taken the Federal Government so long to tackle militancy and kidnapping.

He urged security agents to comb UNIABUJA and its environs in search of the kidnappers who should face the wrath of the law.

Berewari himself confirmed the incident but was too depressed to say how security agencies are proceeding with the release of his daughter

He prayed to God that she returns unharmed.

Tare's father, Isiaye, who is former Government House Chief Accountant under former Governor James Ibori, told reporters in Asaba that she was abducted at about 3.50 p.m. by two men who were in a car that trailed his driver who picked her up from school and was bringing her home.

He said the matter has been reported to the police.

But, at press time, both Police Commissioner, Jacob Oshiomogho, and Police Public Relations Officer, Charles Muka, said they had not been briefed on the incident.

Oshiomogho wondered why Isiaye had not formally reported the incident to police, noting that three hours was enough time for the kidnappers to have whisked the girl to as far away as Abia State.

Delta had been relatively quiet in matters of kidnap, except for the abduction on July 20 last year of Arthur Okwo, 75, father of the Secretary to the State Government

He only regained his freedom on July 25.
