Fayose at scene of Omojola's beating, says witness From Ifedayo Sayo, Ado-Ekiti A WITNESS in the murder case involving aides of former Governor Ayodele Fayose, yesterday told an Ado-Ekiti High Court how one Tunde Omojola was murdered during the May 28, 2005 councillorship election at Ifaki-Ekiti in Ekiti State. advertisement In the trial before Justice Ayodeji Daramola, the witness, a former state secretary of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Mr. Olufemi Olajobi, told the court how the late Omojola was beaten to death in the presence of Fayose, who was invited to Ifaki by one of his aides standing trial in the murder case, Chief Dayo Okondo. According to Olajobi, those who witnessed the killing of Olajobi, apart from Okondo and Fayose, are former chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Akin Olayisade; a serving Commissioner in the State Civil Service Commission, Chief Bodunde Daramola and the 16 former council chairmen in the state. Standing trial in the case are Okondo, former Personal Assistant to Fayose, Goke Olatunji; former Chairman, Ido/Osi Local Council Thaddaeus Aina and another Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Samuel Dada. Led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs, the witness, who was the chief election observer for his party at the election, said he had received a call at about 9.30 a.m. that a huge crowd massed at the Brigid's Catholic Primary School and on getting there, he saw Okondo and Bodunde, one Niyi Ojo and 16 former council chairmen. Okondo, he said, later made a phone call to Fayose to come to Ifaki, pointing out in the conversation that without Fayose, there was no way the PDP could have won the councillorship by-election in the town. Fayose, the witness added, arrived the town at about 10.30 a.m. and drove straight to the primary school where the crowd had gathered and on sighting the crowd, shot into the air. He said Fayose asked his people in Yoruba the number of people they have killed. The late Omojola, he said, also followed Fayose's convoy in a car, adding that most of those following Fayose in the convoy of cars wore T-shirts and held rifles. Following the gun shot by Fayose, the witness disclosed that there was pandemonium as people ran for safety. Fayose, apparently enjoying the situation, started shouting "action, action" and later headed towards Methodist Primary School polling unit in the town where Olayisade took the ballot box and upturned the content. He maintained that "I heard Tunde Omojola saying that how can this type of rigging that was going on be allowed? I signaled to him to keep quiet as Mr. Lanre Bakare was saying the same thing. The governor ordered that they should remove the small cap on his head. "Niyi Ojo now pointed at Tunde Omojola, saying 'this is their main backer that is financing the NCP.' Then Goke hit Tunde Omojola in the face. Those who took part in the beating included Aina, Kehinde Agboola and Mr. Bayo Asana after which Omojola fell down and I was forced to make an attempt to rescue him from them. "It was then that I too was beaten and in the course of beating me, the governor said they should stop beating me but that they should throw me into a waiting Mobile Police (MOPOL) truck, while the beating of Omojola continued in which Okondo too participated. "Fayose now moved away from that spot, I had the advantage of watching what was going on inside the truck where I was. As the beating of Omojola continued, Goke now lifted a stone and hit Omojola on the chest where he was lying. Omojola was later stripped naked, after which he was dragged to where Fayose was standing. "Omojola was forced to kneel down before Fayose, saying in Yoruba: 'Governor, se e fe lee mo mi ni? (Governor, do you want to claim that you don't know me?).' Isaac Fayose now told the governor not to mind Omojola and from his kneeling position, Omojola made an attempt to hold Fayose, but Fayose parried his hand and left that spot. "He later gave an order that they should throw him (Omojola) into the truck naked and Omojola landed on my lap inside the truck with blood gushing from the back of his head and his left ear. Omojola demanded for water to drink and the governor ordered that the truck in which we were should be following his convoy round the town." Olujobi claimed that he and 10 other persons were arrested and taken to the police station on the orders of Fayose, adding that Omojola was carried off the truck as he had lost consciousness. He said the former governor later stormed the police station with Bakare begging him to allow Omojola to be taken to the hospital. He added that as Omojola was being taken to the hospital, he was gasping for breath while the rest of them that were arrested were driven to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ado-Ekiti in a white Government House Coaster bus. Further hearing in the murder case has been adjourned till June 17, 2008. |
Descrimination against women is getting out of hand in Nigeria especially the west. All the female office holders are slowly being impeached one by one. They would've uprooted Iyabo if not for her dad. Who knows their next victim? God save us from our menfolks. |
Lawmakers remove Ogun Speaker By Ademola Oni, Abeokuta The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Chief Titi Oseni, was on Thursday removed from office. https://odili.net/news/source/2008/may/16/punch/images/1.jpg The Impeached Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Chief Titi Oseni She was replaced by Mr. Tunji Egbetokun representing Obafemi Owode Constituency. Oseni was not present during the proceedings that culminated in her removal. She was said to be away on official duty in Abuja. Twenty two of the 26-member Assembly voted for the removal of the Speaker, who had enjoyed a peaceful tenure since she assumed office in 2003. But in an electronic message the Speaker sent to our correspondent on Thursday, Oseni said she remained the Speaker of the House. She said, ”No problem. I remain the Speaker. I‘m in Abuja attending a conference on fiscal responsibility. It is resolved.” It was not immediately clear what precipitated the removal of Oseni, who had been widely touted to have been enjoying the support of the state Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and the top hierarchy of the party in the state. While most members of the House refused to make comments, a member, who asked not to be named, said Oseni was removed because ”she is incapable of leading the House in complementing the state in achieving the agenda for a secure future.” A terse statement from the Personal Assistant to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ayo Giwa, however, said the House did not sit on Thursday, saying the Speaker could not have been impeached. He said, ”The Ogun State House of Assembly did not sit on Thursday, May 15, 2008, therefore, the issue of removal or non-removal could not have arisen. “Titi Oseni, who is the legal authority to convene a sitting of the House was on official assignment in Abuja on Thursday, May 15, 2008.” The statement added that ”nothing has changed” to invalidate the position of Oseni as the Speaker. The Director of Organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Mr. Deji Kalejaiye, told our correspondent on the telephone on Thursday that the party was not ready to make comments on the development. A few minutes after the brief session that facilitated the removal of the Speaker, tough-looking and heavily armed policemen took over he premises of the Assembly, which had become desolate as at the time our correspondent visited. The Clerk of the House could also not be located to clarify the development in the Assembly. Political observers and opposition in the state, however, stated that the embattled Speaker might have ”fallen out of favour with those that had ensured her survival over the years.” http://odili.net/news/source/2008/may/16/427.html |
Nigerian universities lack quality lecturers – NUC From Onwuka Nzeshi in Abuja, 05.16.2008 Friday, May 16, 2008 Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, yesterday said universities in Nigeria lack the needed qualified manpower to steer the academic system to a level where they could produce quality graduates. Okojie said presently, qualification of most lecturers in the system fell below internationally acceptable standard, adding that drastic measures needed to be taken if the country will achieve its Vision 2020 and the Millennium Development Goals. The revelation came at at the NUC headquarters, during the approval of documents on establishment of the 32nd state university and the 93rd university in Nigeria, Ondo State University of Science and Technology, in Okitipupa, Ondo State. Okojie said the issue of quality teachers in the nation’s university system cannot be taken lightly, because it is the quality of teaching that determines the quality of graduates an institution can produce. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/may/16/216.html “Today we are talking of the issue of the quality of teachers in the system, a survey which is the pyramid structure, revealed that the system is deformed. Today, we are expecting 20 per cent of the staff to be reader and above, 45per cent to be senior lecturer and others, lecturer grade 1 and below, but what do we have, 61per cent are lecturer grade 1 and below , so how can you fight a battle with scout masters?” he said. Okojie, while presenting the approval of the new university to Governor Olusegun Agagu and members of the University Council, urged Ondo State government to invest in staff development and exchange programmes which, according to him, were very important aspects of quality assurance in the university system. Responding, Agagu pledged that the University will have a maximum of 5000 students, so as to ensure that resources and facilities available on campus were not stretched beyond their limits. |

Good news filtering in has it that the movie, from the stable of Atlantic Overseas, has been accepted and endorsed for the main screening at the biggest filmmakers gathering globally. Also speaking before jetting out for the revered festival, Mr. Andrien Gbinigie, the executive producer of the historic flick and honcho of Atlantic Overseas, posited that the value of the positive image the feat would confer on Nigeria cannot be quantified in excess of billions of dollars. “ Its invaluable and I’m using this medium to call on the relevant authorities to use this medium, as a positive image making tool globally. With this feat, Nollywood will also stand tall among other great movie making nations that will be at the main screening.” It would be recalled that Mirror of Beauty, which was directed by Okey Zubelu Okoh, was screened at the Odeon and Cineworld cinemas in the UK. I've never been against single women but that doesnt mean that paired ones shouldnt enjoy themselves and their man's joystick. I'll be praying for you because am sure some woman out there is in dire need of your monstrous joystick. i'll pray for you for real. |

Denigrating remarks to females . . . oh please. Like i suppose you exist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bswpx5BTeHk |
you're always so quick off the blocks to rant and rave. Are you perpetually angry?Angry for what? I should allow you to make denigrating remarks about females abi? Even gay men cannot make these remarks and am sure you are not one just that you are sexually frustrated. GO GET LAID PUNK! |
OsunAmazon and Sheniqua . . . Go get laid!I don't need to tell you to go get a life. The undue accumulation os semen is purging you and you seriously need to jerk off. You can quietly take a trip to your bathroom with a tablet of irish spring. Sexist! |
what else could it be? you can always tell when a woman ain't getting no action. They get all tensed upHow do you tell when a man is getting no action? |
Anytime a woman is having a heated conversation with a man and the man gets frustrated, he'll resort to asking the woman to go get laid as if she's getting all worked up because of lack of sex. Some women do that too,i.e. tell their fellow women to go get laid during a heated argument. Isn't the comment heavily sexist? why are men not usually told to 'go get laid' even though they are more in number when it comes to those that are not getting any. Common, any woman that wants a weenie can get it 24/7 as long as she's ready to do it without her spirit, even mad women in the streets of Naija or American mental homes still get some from men. Again, are their any relationship between frustration/anger to a woman's sexuality that cannot be found in a man's sexuality? Why is this phrase reserved for women alone? |
Will it not be better for you to focus on your studies and career than early marriage? I bet you, by the time you get married and start shitting children, that Boo will disappear from your eyes and reality will set in. Don't hang on your boo expecting him to bring home all the needed bacon, you are young and have the whole life in front of you. Get whatever you can now before it's too late. Love can always wait. |
Senate gives Iyabo Obasanjo ultimatum - May declare her seat vacant - Iyabo gives condition for appearance Soji-Eze Fagbemi and Lanre Adewole, Abuja Wednesday, May 14, 2008 THE Senate may have to wield the big stick on Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello with the consequent declaration of her seat vacant if she continues to shun the attendance of proceedings of the upper chamber. This follows her continuous absence from the Senate sessions since her case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which has charged the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health to court over her alleged involvement in the N300 million fraud at the Ministry of Health. The Senate spokesman and chairman of its Committee on Information and Media, Senator Ayogu Eze, disclosed this on Tuesday during the weekly press briefing by the Senate. Senator Eze, who admitted that Obasanjo-Bello’s case was beyond the jurisdiction of the Senate, the case having already been taken to court for adjudication, said the Senate was, however, worried over the continued absence of the legislator at the proceedings of the House, a development which he said contravened the provisions of the 1999 Constitution. Senator Eze, who also said that the Senate could not account for her now, stated that the Senate was expected to sit for a minimum of 181 days in a year, and the constitution made it mandatory for a senator to attend two-thirds of that 181 days, failure of which an interested party from her constituency could notify the National Assembly leadership. Giving details of the procedure, Eze said: “Attendance at sittings of the Senate is voluntary. Every member is subject to the rules and law of Nigeria. The Senate is expected to do a minimum of 181 days in a year and by law, it is also mandatory and a senator is expected to do two-thirds of that 181 to qualify to continue in the chamber.” According to Senator Eze, “it is not the responsibility of the leadership or members of the Senate to fish around for a senator who is not coming. What happens when a senator is absent for considerable number of times is that an interested party or member of the constituency of the senator concerned notifies the National Assembly leadership or the Senate that well, so and so, and so, so, person has been absent from the Senate for so and so period and I think that constitutionally, his or her membership of the National Assembly has lapsed. “If the records of her attendance are checked and the person has not attained the constitutional period required for his or her membership to continue, there is no other procedure required except to write to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Senate President is expected to write INEC to say that so, so and so person has not met the constitutional requirement, therefore conduct election to fill the vacancy. That is what the law says.” On the whereabouts of the senator, Ayogu Eze said: “it is not that the Senate at this point in time can account for Iyabo Obasanjo. We cannot account for her because the last time, we told you that once the matter is charged to court, it is beyond the Senate. Now that the matter has been charged to court, it is beyond the Senate.” In a related development, Senator Obasanjo-Bello on Tuesday gave condition for her reappearance in public, even as an Abuja High Court will tomorrow determine whether she would face trial over alleged indictment in the N300 million fraud in the Ministry of Health. Senator Obasanjo-Bello went into hiding even before the judicial clearance secured by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arraign her alongside former top officials of the ministry also indicted in the alleged fraudulent sharing of N300 million unspent budgetary allocation. She also filed an objection to the charge brought against her by the commission, which the court would decide tomorrow. Moments after yesterday’s proceedings, Iyabo, speaking through her counsel, Mr. Joel Bankole Komolafe, said she would make herself available in court next Monday if the ruling on her quest to quash the charge did not go her way. Though she has a right of appeal, Iyabo hinted that the ruling of the court would be final on the move by the EFCC to prosecute her for allegedly illegally holding on to N10 million out of the N300 million in question. Komolafe told journa-lists at the court premises that “if the court rules that she has a case to answer, she will be here (court) on Monday May 19, but if the court says she has no case to answer, then she goes home a free person.” http://odili.net/news/source/2008/may/14/603.html |
