“How come?” Amina chuckled, he felt her pulse, he went into the kitchen and took a bowl poured some hot water he took from the boiling pot on the electric stove. Return back to the room, he took a little shirt and soak it in the bucket.
He squeeze the water out of it, place the warmth shirt on her forehead. And some part of her body, he exhaled afterwards.
“I no know say, you dey caring like this. I go sick oh” Amina joked.
“I no understand” he eyed her, took the bowl and the wet little shirt. Dried the little shirt on the rope and kept the bowl in the kitchen. He went back to the room, to find Amina on her feet.

Hidden Dream - Episode 4

A Story By Tisa Phiri

I didn't bother to look outside as my father drove me to his so-called boarding school. I had barely slept the previous night. I did all the packing in the night.

The following morning my mother asked me to go with her as she went to pick my groceries and other staff for my school. I barely said a word to her. I could only nod or murmer an answer whenever she would ask me a question. I let her pick the groceries as I pushed the trolleys. she picked all the basics. The bathing soaps, lotions, washing powder, tinned foods, rolls of tissue, some expensive perfumes and lots of other staff I wondered if she was that excited for me or was glad I was finally leaving their house.

Back at home, Aunty Nelly had grilled some chickens and strips of beef, she even packed some other things I didn't pay attention to.

" well you people are determined to send me away", I told aunty Nelly.

" I bet you all can't wait to see me out" I added sadly as I sat on the kitchen table waiting for my father who was to take me to the boarding school. I had not bothered to ask where or what school it was.

" don't say that Jay, you know we love you. Am sad that you had to go that far, but I ask you to please not despair. Do what your parents want and you will be okey."

" whatever," I snapped and walked out of the kitchen leaving aunty Nelly shaking her head sadly.

Now in the car I sat quietly in the back seat as my parents sat in front, dad driving us in his Fortune runner. I cared less how rich he was. To me everything around me was just vogue.

" So Jared, don't you care to know which boarding school you are going to?" My mother asked turning to look at me as I kept my head leaning on the window.

" no" I answered blankly without looking up my hands twisting a bottle of coke I was drinking.

She sighed loudly. " this is for your own good son, your father and I just want whats best for you. A boarding environment is what you need. There are little distractions there. Am sure you will make new friends and will start catching up. Even though you are going to start in grade 11 since you have missed a lot from last term . You can not write your exams." She added.

"Okey," I thought to myself.

"Now they are taking me back. Instead of letting me do away with secondary school, they had to take me back to grade 11 and I was already 19. Oh how great!" I shouted inside.

" sure mom, whatever you guys say" I faked a smile. " grade 11 it is" I added and drunk the coke heavily before putting down the bottle.

Mom stared at me for a minute. " we have found you a place at Luangwa boys secondary school" she announced unexpectedly.

For the first time I raised my eyes to look at her.

"Okey, so now am going to a government school. Now that is proper rejection I thought" to myself. I had never been to a government school since baby class, and I heard stories of how poor their food was and lots of other unpleasant things. Now I was going to one. A boarding school in the bush.

My parents dropped me off after having me registered and see me to my hostel. One of the workers we came with helped me carry my bags to the room and afterwards I walked outside where my parents said their good byes.

"Be a good boy", dad patted my back. And mom, hugged me tightly." Will see you soon Jared, please make us proud this time around. We expect you to behave and you can ask the boarding master to give us a call in case of anything. Will miss you" she added and patted my hands.

I just nodded without saying a word. I felt my eyes get wet and I quickly turned away to avoid breaking down in front of them.

I heard the car engine start as I walked in the passage to my room.

" hey, am John" a guy on the down bunker called out to me as i stood in the room. I had not paid attention to him since I got in. I had no intentions of making any new friends.

" hey", I responded carelessly. I saw the guy sigh reluctantly.

" your name is?" He asked when he saw I didn't bother to talk to him.

"Jay" I announced casually.

"Jay, just that?" John asked further.

"Yeah, just Jay man do you have a problem with that? " I asked rudely.

I noticed the guy frown.

From the look of his beddings and his skin tone, I could tell the guy was from a poor back ground. I felt bad at the way I was taking out my anger on him. He wasn't the reason I was all heated up so I stopped packing my luxury staff in the Locker and walked to him. Sitting down next to him as he eyed me quietly.

" look, am sorry man, its just that this whole boarding thing got to me and coming to this school was so unexpected. My parents just dragged me here and..."

"I get it man, don't worry" John sighed.

" I mean, I can tell you are from a wealthy family and probably you have never been to such a school before. But not to worry you will be cool here man, I mean we have some guys from your class and sometimes life is great here" he added with a smile.

" thanks man, I held my hand to him. Let's start afresh," I told him." Am Jared Zimba. Grade 11c", I added calmly.

John took my hand and shook it gently." John Kabuswe" , he giggled " and am glad to hear that you are in 11 c. What a coincidence, am in the same class too" he smiled.

" Oh great then," I sighed as we sat down. At least I wont be such a stranger here I smiled.

I discovered John was a cool guy. He talked more than I did but he was a good company. He told me lots about the school.telling me that we had girls too even when most of them where day schoolers. He told me some interesting clubs at school and some of the does and donts.

We spent the rest of the afternoon chatting as he took me around the surroundings. .I could see a lot of glances as we passed around.

" a new kid huh?" one of the guys in a funny swag shouted.

" ignore him man, that boy has issues and he's known for his bad manners, watch out for him and his group. He thinks he owns this place" John told me.

I looked back at the group and sighed.

" well, he better not mess with me am in no mood for his outburst and I don't think I will accept anyone getting me on my bad side" I added calmly

John looked at Me, he was a shoulder shorter than me and I could see a smile on the corner of his mouth. I looked built up and tough too and am sure he liked being around me. I could see how proud he looked and waved at other kids around, more like announcing " am with a rich and tough guy for a friend"

Later that evening we walked to the dinning hall for our dinner. Some faces turned towards us. I wore blue pants and a V- neck tshirt and some sneakers, I bet I looked hot and expensive too. My head was well shaved and I had my side beards well trimmed.

I flashed a smile at one of the boys John introduced to me earlier as the head boy for the school.

Grabbing our food I walked to find a sit near John and the head boy called me out to go sit on their table.

I shrugged and called John to join us too.

" hey man! Am Oswald " the head boy shouted as I sat opposite him.

" hey" I quickly answered and smiled.

Thanks for letting me join you guys I added.

" You welcome my man, you look like you belong here," Oswald shrugged.

I felt good, having to get recognition at the first day in school was actually cool.i guess having some rich family had its benefits after all. My looks added to the good reception.

Well, the day went on well as the head boy and other guys chatted with me. We sat outside the hostels as they told me staff and i listened smiling and laughing through it all.

By the time I got to my hostel with John I felt a sense of belonging. And for the first time in months I had laughed and smiled.

" so what time is class tomorrow?" I asked John as we lay in our beds. The whole hostel was quiet now as the others where probably sleeping. Luckily the rooms where divided by some walls and there where two people in each room. The top part was open and we could hear others clearly.

" Class starts at 7: 15, but we are all expected to be up by 05:30 to clean up the rooms and have our breakfast."

I see, I sighed. Well I have prepared my uniform already and am sure I will make it up at that time. But I don't think I will go for breakfast. I mean, the food we ate this evening is still making my stomac jump . Is that how they cook.?" I asked

John laughed." Welcome, to Lubo", he giggled.

" don't worry though, with time you will start running to go have that food man, I mean, this is just the beginning of term two am sure by the end of the 3rd week all the food you came with will have finished and you will be forced to eat in the dinning" he added.

" oh I forgot, am sure your parents will bring some more for you. Lucky you man, some of us its harsh. We don't see any good food around here except the one we carry for the first week. My mother can't afford it. By the way your parents look cool man. They seem to love you so much. I wish we had such a car too" John said calmly.

I smiled at John, "come on, let's sleep now you talk too much. You have no clue about me." I whispered and got back in my blanket.

A week passed and I begun to get used to being in school. My interest wasn't so much with learning though. I found myself happy around the guys. I always looked forward to getting out of class and even during prep time, I just stared at my books as usual.

John realised I was not so good with school work and he started trying to help me. I should admit the guy had brains. I didn't undersrand how he didn't put in much effort but was always answering questions in class and performed so well in the class exercises.

On a Friday, we were told to go to our various clubs.

" what type of clubs do we have here?" I asked John as we walked out.

" well, am in the JETS club, but there are other clubs too. There's drama, commerce club, mathematics, scripture union and others. The least attended of all though is a dance club that is lead by this hot teacher" John giggled.

" dance club? " I asked with a Grin

" Yeah dance, can you imagine that nonsense? I hear guys who go there just want to take a look at that hot Madam's perfect shape" he laughed.

I stopped walking, looking at John. He shook his head.

" don't tell me you are interested in going to check out this music teacher?" John teased giving me a push.

I staggered back a bit and smiled. " Yeah, I actually want to entertain my eyes" I lied smiling.

I couldn't get to tell my new friend how I loved dancing. I knew from his expression dancing wasn't for people like him. His opinion was clear evidence.

I walked him to his club and slowly escaped to the class where I could hear some music playing.

Without getting inside I stood by the window and watched as the music teacher showed some moves to the group. Most of the pupils there were girls. There were only three guys present and I understood why. They kept on eyeing the teachers curves and barely paid attention to her teaching.

The teacher was indeed great looking, she looked young if not for the fact she was in her clothes and not uniform I could have thought she was one of the grade 12 girls.

I was gazing inside when someone patted my back.

" wanna dance?" A soft voice asked making me turn to the direction of a sweet voice.

" hey" I sighed shyly.

" not really, actually am new here so was just checking out some clubs in this school" I faked a smile.

The girls lips curved into a beautiful smile. She wore her school skirt but had removed her shirt leaving her in a white silk vest making her small round breasts fitting in it perfectly.

" well, so?" She asked almost in a whisper.

" I'm um am." I stammeredu

" think I have seen enough" I told her shrugging.

She smiled again." Am Tracy, and I love dancing, this is my club" she announced proudly.

" Jared" , I shook her hand, "you can call me Jay, most people call me that" I smiled widely.

She turned her head inside. " I better be going now" she chuckled.

"Am missing out on the new steps. Nice to meet you Jay", she smiled and walked in.

I stood there watching as she joined the group and started following the hot teacher's moves.

I smiled and walked away lest the guys saw me drooling over a dance class.

The Bodyguard - Episode 30

By Tisa Phiri

Ackim....

"Meet me at the usual place" I told Paula on the phone. I had just seen George and overheard him plan to attack that night. He was instructing some guys on how to capture her from the hotel.

"I don't want any mistakes this time around" he told them.

"luck for us that idiot lost his memory. we have to act before he can remember who we are." George explained as they sat at some drinking place. I wore a hood and some black sheds as a cover. They did not noticed I followed them to their meeting.

One thing puzzled me the most. The woman I saw at Georges house who introduced herself as his mother was the one pushing his son to kill Paula. I clearly head heŕ insist that that day they should make sure Paula was dead.

"listen up guys, George went on, should that soldier show up anywhere we all should not hesistate to take him down, this time for good" he added as they all nodded in agreement..

They were 6 in total, one of them apart from George looked familiar but unfortunately I couldn't remember who he was.

Sudenly I saw them leave and I followed them, unknown to me one one them saw me as I made the call to Paula. I had taken off the hood thinking they all left. I had planned on warning her and get her out of the hotel before they did.

I cut the line as they came menacingly and surrounded me. George had left and now I had to face 4 guys.

"Well, well look who decides to stick his nose in our business again" they shouted, one of them wagging a belt made of a strong rubber.

I knew I had to fight them or I would die. As they charged towards me, I grabed one of them and hit him hard on his face and he staggered backwards. I fought two other guys and when they noticed I was defeating them as individuals. They all charged forward at once, hitting and punching me from all directions.

My furry rose as I fought back making sure my blows left a great impact on them. Grabbing the rubber belt from the tall guy who had it, I whipped them so hard and they stood a step away. I went wild hitting and slashing as I over powered them.

It was surprising even for myself the way I fought then. I noticed one of them was the guy who had wanted to break in at Dr Mwaba's house.

I followed him first and gave him blows before the others could stand to fight back. It was almost 18 and getting dark, the people at the bar ran in all directions as the fight heated up, I was like a mad dog kicking and fighting with all I had.

With a crack I twisted the guy I identified and he fall down lifeless. I was still on him when I felt a sharp cut in my head and before I turned to look at where it came from, I blacked out.

When I woke up, I was tied to some pole in an abandoned warehouse. I tried to loosen up but the idiots did their job well.

The guy with a funny hair cut came forward and led others as they all hit me so hard I felt powerless. I spat blood and went dark again.

The time I came to, I saw George and his crew walk in.

He clapped his hands amazed,

"well now.. this is more like it.. the wounded buffalo has been tarmed " he teased placing his foot on my chest.

"You have to kill me first you fool!" I shouted..

"because if you don't, I swear to God I will cut off your head."

"Let's see how you do that soldier !' he shouted back..

"you are useless tied up. Besides, am now going to invite your pretty girl so she watches you die before I kill her myself" he added and started laughing loudly. I wondered what was him with his stupid laughter, it so much for to my nerves.

"I guess you have watched too much movies uh? You want to be the bad ass guy who threatens everyone and do all sorts of crazy things " I mocked him..

"but if you paid attention, you would notice the bad guys like you never make it to the end alive" I added sarcastically.

He came forward and slaped my face.

"you are dead meat my friend" he whispered near my face.

"say all you can cause today is the last of your miserable life" he spat looking straight at me.

Some other guy came and whispered some thing to him and I saw him smile happily.

"oh well today is indeed my day" he said as he went out side.

He came back a few minutes later with Paula held by two of his boys.

I shouted for him to leave her alone but he mocked me, saying she was the reason we both were there.

I felt bad and useless being tied up. my heart ached as i watched them tie her across where I was.

"I swear they will pay" I thought to myself. I wasnt going to let them harm her, not when I was still alive. I started looking around for something to help me loose myself.

George started explaining what he was calling the begining of the story....

"I lived a poor life with my mother and my elder brother" he started.. "that was some years back. our mother told us we both were born from different father's. My brother who is supposed to be your real step brother" he said looking at Paula.

"he's name is or can I say was? Gerrad" he went on..

"What are you saying you fool ?" Paula answered.

" you mean you are not even my brother?" She asked surprised..

"Yes actually" he responded folding his hands..

"You see i had to kill that fool cause he always thought he was more intelligent and clever. When our mother told us about who the father to Gerrad was. That is your father Paula," he paused.

" I knew if he was to find his father before me he would become rich over night as we all knew he had lots of money. Anyway, to cut the story short, i wanted his inherritance and i killed him but my mother thinks it was an accident.

I later on convinced mom to go confront Mr Benson and tell him I was his son. Since she also needed the money she agreed and we brided some doctor to forge a DNA test and blah! Am your brother!" he said rising his hands as he stood before us looking at our surprised faces.

"You are evil George" Paula snapped.

" your greedy is so vast it will lead you to your grave."

I watched him in silence my head was cracking with pain. I was almost screaming in pain but I couldnt show weakness at the moment.

"So now what followed?" He asked himself as he walked to and from.

"yeah I remember, then I started my plot to kill you. my only mistake was I wanted some quick cash so I damanded a ransom for your release when I sent some guys to kidnap you" he let a laugh..

"Mmmmhm it was wonderful how I used your workers to get to you. Remember Simon? And Shila? " he looked at Paula

I saw Paula's face frown

"what? You used those two?" she asked.

unfortuately for me everything was news cause I couldn't remember the people in question.

"Yes, yes" he agreed smiling

"Shila is my girlfriend and shes the one who drugged your drink before we got you then and she was my eyes there. Simon may he rest in peace, was my cousin and he did lots for me, for instance kill the guys this jerk left to guard my right hand man Kakoma after he kidnapped him, remember soldier?" He teased me popping his eyes at me, Istayed silent.

"Am sorry I have to kill you Ackim, It's nothing personal but you spoiled everything for me when you decided to play hero. A guy like you would save me better but since you are on the wrong team, guess I have no option."

He went on bragging about how he squandered the money he was always demanding, he mentioned his plans of taking over from Paula's father. Surely one could tell he was a lost cause, he harboured pure hatred towards Paula and her father.

He stepped out with his group later after he was done narrating his story. Some guy told him the police just past by the main road.

I took the opportunity to speak to Paula.

" i will get you out of here I swear on my life!" I assured her..

"Don't do anything stupid Ackim please " she told me crying.

" you are hurt and this maniac won't hesitate to kill you."

"if I don't do anything we are both dead" I whispered to her.

"this person is sick in the head." I shook my head.

"Ackim!" She called me..

"I love you" she told me without warning.

"You and i where were more than friends we both loved each other before the accident"

I smiled weakly.

" wow that's the best thing I have heard in this horrible day" I told her trying to smile widely..

"whatever the case, I have fallen for you all over again. I love you now Paula, am not sure about the past cause I can't remember but I know I love you still" I added with a smile..

I saw her cry and I was devastated. "am sorry we will never get to be together" she smiled whilst crying.

"No don't say that, we have not come all this way just to die like this, i will get us out of here." I said looking around. I needed a plan and I had to act fast.

Blood Legacy - Episode 4

© Brian Ngoma

Ben and Devi exchanged glances after walking around the unfinished school building. They knew they were so close to having the chief sign up the deal. They had been patient enough and it was getting to their last nerves. What irritated them more was the surfacing of the Chief's young son, Walutanga. Despite him being the youngest, what he was saying could alter the Chiefs mind and now that they were so close to the deal, they had to do something.

"I'm getting sick of this," Ben whispered to Devi.

"You just don't know how fade up I am with this," Devi whispered back.

"Do something."

"What do you mean do something?" Devi looked at Ben confused. "Aren't you the diplomat?"

Ben watched the Chief and his two sons argue. "I think this is family business, don't you think?"

"I thought you said you're fade up?"

"I am but getting involved would only raise suspicions."

Devi stepped in, "Chief, i think you're just wasting time talking to this boy. You're the chief and he's just a child."

Walutanga and Junior Chisoti looked at the care free Devi. They looked back at their father who seemed confused.

"Walutanga go home!" the chief yelled at the boy.

"No!" He yelled back.

"Boy go home," Devi said concealing his desire to punch the boy's face.

"Or else?" Walu defiantly said looking Devi in the eyes.

Devi looked at the Chief, "We are running out of time."

"Why are you in such a hurry?" Walu inquired.

Devi's left hand had formed into a fist. He was doing everything he could to restrain his anger and contempt towards the boy.

"Let's talk about this at home," Ben stepped in touching Devi's shoulder.

It seemed like a good thing to do. The Chief and his first born got into the Altis while Ben and Devi got into the Ford Ranger driving off from the site. Walutanga felt like he had won and ran back to the building.

"Hunter!" He shouted.

Hunter was nowhere to be found. Walutanga checked where his bag was and it had gone too. Feeling his knees go numb, he ran outside asking everyone if they had seen Hunter. Apparently, no one had seen him leave the building. The boy ran towards the river shouting Hunters name. Reaching the river, he found Hunter about to cross the river.

"Where are you going Hunter!" Walu shouted.

Hunter stopped.

"You are just going to leave without saying goodbye?"

"That's how i leave boy."

"After everything we have accomplished together in this village?"

"It doesn't matter now."

"You are a coward Hunter!"

"Better a coward than die in a war that's not mine."

"What do you mean die?"

"You don't know who you're dealing with boy. I advise you step back and let your father handle Devi and Ben."

"How do you know their names?" Walu was confused and went on. "I never told you their names."

"I know them and whoever they are working for, will surely get that land. Whether you like it or not, just step back," Hunter turned around. "You are young and have a future before you, don't jeopardise it for things you don't understand."

"What future do i have if i cannot protect my land? That land has been used for traditional purposes from the time no one knew i would ever be born."

"I like your determination but it will get you killed," Hunter turned and started walking.

"Go away like you always do. Run away, I'm sure you did the same thing when your daughter was dying."

Before Walu could even process what he had just said, Hunter was on his face grabbing his shirt and lifting him up.

"Don't you dare bring my daughter into this. A lot of people have died for that, don't you ever do that again."

"Don't worry, put me down Hunter."

Hunter put him down and left. Walutanga felt depressed and went back home. As soon as he reached, he found the two gentlemen, Ben and Devi angrily leaving the house. Devi evilly stared at Walutanga as he reached for the car. Walu was startled. He rushed to the house and found his mother, father and brother quarreling in angry voices.

"What happened?" Walu asked getting into the living room.

"It's your father, he declined selling the land," his mother answered. "I'm sure your stupidity rubbed on him."

"Really?" Walu excitedly asked.

"Yes," Chisoti Junior answered. "He will regret his decision," he got up and left his mother following him.

Walutanga and his father remained.

"Come sit with me," the Chief called Walu.

He walked to where he had sat. They bot sat in total silence until the Chief said, "You reason well, do you know that?"

"I think so," he laughed.

"Minimise on the arrogance though. I didn't refuse to sell that land because of you but i did it for my own sake. I'm not saying you will be the chief," he laughed, "But whatever responsibilities you will have when your brother will be ruling, you have to put the people's needs before yours."

"Being a chief is for suckers," Walu laughed. "Whatever reasons you didn't sell it for are none of my concerns. I'm just happy you didn't."

The chief smiled relaxing into the sofa.

"Pa," Walu called him.

"Yes my boy."

"Why don't you like to talk about your brother Mapulanga?"

The Chief's face turned sour, "You better go outside and find something to do."

Walutanga wondered and didn't want to press more, "Okay pa, I'm proud of you though. We will talk about my school in the evening, right?"

"Just go."

The boy left smiling.

Joe stood by the hospital's gate waiting for Ludo. He saw her from a distance hurriedly coming up towards him. Evan running away was a good thing for her, He thought as she reached where he was.

"What happened dad?" She asked distraught.

"One minute we were talking and the next is gone," Joe raised his hands.

"What do you mean?"

"I went to grab a drink and couldn't find him. He ran away. I asked around but no one saw him."

"Evan!" She said grinding her teeth.

"Let's go home doll, it's getting dark," Joe softly said seeing how devastated and disappointed she was.

Ludo followed him to the car. She looked around hoping she would catch a glimpse of Evan in the hospitals surroundings but he she couldn't. He was gone. Joe started the car and drove home.

People in Chisoti village usually slept late but when it was winter, a lot of them would be in their huts or brick houses gathered around some form of heat. This night was no different, by the time it was 8pm, the village was very quiet only birds could be heard chirping from a distance, dogs barking and cats meowing. Amidst the dead silence, people in their houses heard a cry. At first, everyone thought it were the kids playing but the cry could be heard getting higher and higher. Some men gathered their courage and got out to check where it was coming from.

"The Chief's house is on fire!" A loud cry was heard but no one knew where it came from.

True to the cry, a big fiery fire could be seen from a distance. It was so big it lightened up half of Chisoti village. Every man in sight ran towards the house but by the time they got there, the windows and doors were spitting out fire. Smoke was everywhere and no one could dare step a foot towards the burning house. They just watched sorrowfully while others grabbed buckets of water and tried to spill on the house but the fire had spread it seemed like the water was being swallowed by it.

"No don't go any nearer!" A woman shouted from behind everyone. "Please don't."

Everyone turned around to see who it was she was preventing from going near the house. Before they could see who it was, they just saw him breaking the door of hell and disappearing into the smoke.

"That's the friend of the Chief's son Walutanga," a man said and covered his mouth in shock.

"But he's going to get himself killed there," another onlooker screamed.

"That must be the Hunter the children speak of."

"Hunter of what?"

"No, his name is Hunter."

"Hope he saves them."

They all crossed their fingers hoping for the best as they watched the fire engulf the house. Others were on their knees praying for the Chiefs family. They couldn't help it but all wonder what could have caused such a great and fierce fire.

Hidden Dream - Episode 3

A Story By Tisa Phiri

"Hey Jay!" My friend Ben called me out as we walked to the biology laboratory.

" Hey !" I shouted back.

"Didn't see you in the school hall for assembly. Late again?" I asked him as he caught up with me.

"Yeah man, you know how it is. My Pops got issues with his car and I had to get on a bus to school for the past weeks."

"Oh am sorry Ben, I thought the issue with your father was over. How did the court session go? "

Ben sighed, "it's tough man, I just thank God they paid my fees in advance otherwise I could have found myself out of this school. I see how my pops is being affected by the court issues. Being accused of embezzling funds for the company. I don't know how to take it Jay, it's pretty too much for the big man you know"

I stopped and looked at my friend. He looked sad, I had seen his father on several occasions and I would agree the man was good with his parenting skills.

I recalled how he one day invited us to some time out with him. I couldn't stop admiring how easy he was with Ben. He treated him so much like an adult and gave him the freedom to express himself. I chuckled when at some point they started arguing about some things. I couldn't recall what about, but they looked so relaxed and good together I felt jealousy.

It had been years since I felt that close to my father. And he lately never really talked to me.

" sorry to hear that man, am sure things will iron out for your Pops soon" I said finally.

" Yeah I hope so man" Ben shrugged.

" So how is you and your parents? Getting good now?" He asked

" lets not even go there man, I would rather not talk about them" I sighed.

"Oh here he comes!" Someone in class announced as Mr Muguma walked in.

We all went quite as the man stood in front of the white board.

He was silent for a while scanning the room. Then he cleared his throat.

" Good morning girls and boys" He greeted in his usual firm voice.

" Good morning Sir" we all responded and he indicated us to remain standing.

" So today I want us to recall what we learnt on Thursday last week, I will ask you some questions and you would only sit if you give an answer.

"Oh no.. not that again, " I thought to myself.

"This man is out to punish me again."

I didn't hear the rest of the things he said so I was startled when he called out my name.

"Jared Zimba"! He shouted and everyone turned to look at me.

"Yes sir!" I answered looking up.

Everyone started laughing. It was evident I wasn't paying attention again.

"What the hell is wrong with You? pay attention boy" I screamed to myself .

"Sorry I didn't hear you sir" i responded.

Mr Muguma frowned as he walked towards me.

"You know what the problem is with boys like You?" He said not really asking.

"You always think you will always feed from your parent's hands like little babies. You have to learn to fight for your own life and stop being too comfortable. There are children of your age out there and are dying to be in your place and here you are playing around and acting up on your parent's money, lets see how far your daddy's riches will take you. " he added sacastically stressing the word "daddy"

" look at you," he went on.

"You think you have it all, the looks, the money and the swag as you boys call it. Well I got news for you. That is nothing if it doesn't come from your own hard work. Get yourself out of school if you feel you have it and stop giving us a hard time to push education into you when you are here to just show off and not learn. You are a disgrace to manhood and I pity your parents for working off their lives to provide for dull kids like you. What a waste " he added sacastically.

I looked at the man as he went on rebuking me in front of everyone and I couldn't take it anymore. He was wasting time, not that I was looking forward to his lesson but i felt for those guys who liked school. He was wasting their time.

" am sorry sir your father never worked so hard to give you a life that I have,"i started without giving it a second thought.

" am sorry you had to end up being a teacher instead of a Doctor as you always dreamed of because your parents were poor, but don't you dare throw that on me. I didn't chose to be born in a rich family. Don't always bring up your anger on me cause honestly you have to get over it man, get over yourself and be proud of who you are" i added and the whole class murmered.

"Wooooboooo! " Some guys shouted and the whole class went AWOL. As the the teacher stared at me angrily.

" You can't even pronounce the word 'ribosomes' you an't so intelligent yourself you know." I added being motivated by the shouting.

I saw him grab his board makers and stormed out of the room like a mad person.

" woo! Jay what was that about man, you practically finished that poor teacher" my class mate Mwelwa shouted.

" well someone had to speak up that teacher is always out of line guys" I said and grabbed my book walking out of the lab.

I ran to the ablution block and panted in front of the mirrow.

"Shit!" I cursed wiping the sweat from my forehead.

I knew I just signed my own death sentence and if my parents were summoned, of which I was sure would happen, I was dead meat.

Our class teacher came to call me out after an hour.

"Here it goes", I sighed as I lifted my books and placed them in my bag. I knew I would not be going back to class so I had to pack up and prepare for the worst. I found my mother in the head teachers office.

She shot some angry look at me and I kept down like a wet dog .

" So, Jared I bet you know why we called you and your mother here. This school will not condon anyone behaving the way you did and embarrass the teacher in front of the whole class." The head teacher explained.

" do you have anything to say, sonny? " he asked.

" am sorry Sir" I apologised to him. " i didnt mean to its just that Mr Muguma seems to have something personal against me and he blames his poverty and past life on me. He's always......."

" stop it now! " my mother responded loudly.

" You, you even have the guts to say all that in front of us all. How dare you.? I can't believe you turning this on your teacher, so you mean your teacher can not control you because what? You feel you know it all huh?" She quickly added.

I couldn't say anymore. I waited as my mom and the head teacher talked after talking to me and sending me to wait outside.. later on they called me and made me to go back to class and apologise to Mr Muguma in front of everyone. I was purnished the whole day for my indiscipline.

Well, from that day on I decided to not care anymore. I started fighting anyone who would talk ill of me. I was always noisy in class and all the teachers started complaining.

At home I stopped every effort to study and never even stayed in the same room with my parents nor siblings.

My unruly behaviour became so famous and my mother was becaming tired of being called at my school.

It was like every thing I had heated up inside was coming out in a bad way. The noise, the fighting, the issue of talking back at my teachers was all a scape goat from what was the real problem inside.

I stopped dancing, well even when I was alone. I just got so angry at everyone and everything, I was so mad..

One day as I lay in my bedroom staring at nothing. Aunty Nelly walked in and sat on my bed.

"Jay, my boy. What is going on with You?" She asked in her calm voice. I turned to look at her and she frowned.

"What is it Aunty Nelly? I didn't say anything is wrong with me." I smiled sheepishly.

" You have become this naughty boy all of a sudden. You used to be a good boy. You never answered back at your parents. But now you don't regard your mother. You always come late and is always running away from your father. I hear You even skip school these days. The driver told me he drops you at school everyday but reports from your school say you are absent most of the days. You can talk to me son" she patted my hand.

" Well, am just tired of everything Aunty Nelly, I hate every thing about my life and sometimes I just wish I could vanish into thin air. I feel suffocated here and at school am tired of always being looked at as this dull boy who can't pass even a simple subject. I got suspended indefinitely and am here stuck at home.." I raised my hands.

"My father won't even talk to me. You know what though", I sighed sitting up. ."am actually glad they suspended me. I feel relieved I don't have to face those people at that school. And for my father. I really think I stopped existing to him since the day he discovered he gave birth to a son who can never pass a single exam." I expressed myself to the woman before me.

I expected her to tell me off but I was shocked she smiled at me.

" come here, lets take a walk to the garden" she told me and held my hand to stand up.

I stood and walked with her past the living room where my sister's sat watching some movies.

" I had a son like you," she started.

" You did" I asked surprised. How come we never see him around and you have never bothered to bring him here?

" Well, it's a long story. My child" my son should have been 30 years old this year. "

" what happened? You said should have?" I asked impatiently.

Aunty Nelly smiled calmly but in a way that I sensed she was hiding some deep pain.

" Yeah, he died about 12 years ago before I came to work for your parents. Back in my village" she started and I stood frozen.

" oh God what happened to him.? Am sorry aunty Nelly I never knew you had to go through that all these years. How come you never said anything to me?" I asked her as we sat down on the bench in the garden.

It was a cold afternoon but the surrounding in the garden looked amazing as the small flowers were sprout and the green onions the gardener had planted where green.

I watched aunty Nelly relax as she evidently pushed back her tears. Her face now getting a little older and some two lines forming down her eyes.

" my son was 2 years younger than you when he died. He was a very strong boy. A good fisherman. Him and my husband where always out fishing and he loved it so much. He however had another deep desire. He always wanted to dance and sing."

"What! I sat up. Dance? " I asked. I had not expected it. I mean hearing another man had a passion to dance. I sometimes thought here in Zambia i was the only one with a crazy dream.

" Yeah," she smiled."My son just like you loved dancing so much. Of course not the kind of dance you do. What do you call It? She asked with a laugh.

" Ballroom dance" I smiled raising my hand.

" mnmmm yeah not that one. He was a traditional dancer and back in our village in Luapula a man was defined by his ability to either hunt or fish. Not the stupid dancing. My husband back then and I tried all we could to talk him out of it but it all fall on deaf eyes.

He one day ran away from home and joined a dancing group in the city and that was the last I saw of my beautiful boy."

I saw aunty Nelly shed a tear and I moved closer and hugged her. She was indeed hurting and I felt bad I had to insist she told me more.

" So so what happened to him?" I asked when she was calm.

She stood up and walked to the small orange tree, twisting the leaves. " he was found dead along the road. We just saw some police officers at our village. They came to give us that sad news and told us our son was killed by some gang members who wanted the money he had made that night dancing in the show. You know what hurt the most.? I wished I had a chance to accept his dream and let him do as he desired. Maybe he wouldn't have ran away and got killed. Up to date I still can't forgive myself for his death.

I contributed to his dying cause I couldn't accept my son's passion. My husband and I always fought about it. We blamed each other day and night and he become unbareable when he started drinking a lot. I ran away from the village and that's how I found myself here. My friend helped me get this job." She sighed...

"Well, Aunty Nelly I didn't know. It's so sad am truly sorry for that. It's really a sad story and I dont know what to tell you really," I whispered to her.

she wiped her tears and smiled. " you remind me of my son so much Jay. I know you love dancing and am sad to see that over the days You have even stopped dancing. You are killing your dream and thats why you are so angry. You need to let yourself out my son, not everyone will understand but you have to accept who you really are."

" who am I Aunty? " I asked weakly. " i I don't think I know that now. For starters my parents will never understand me. You see how they rebuke me over this dancing. They used to allow me dance when I was a kid but now they won't hear the word " dance" from my lips without getting mad at me" I complained as I sat back in the chair.

" follow your heart my boy, I don't want you to end up like my son. If you don't let it out you will kill yourself slowly and by the time you realise it, it will be too late. Don't let the world define you. You have a heart of your own and it will guide you. Try to get your parents understand" she added and kissed my forehead before walking back to the house leaving me staring at the green onions.

For some hour or so I stayed in the garden. Aunty Nelly's words ringing in my mind. But I couldn't figure out the way of telling my parents I wanted to dance . I just couldn't.

I walked back to the house defeated. I totally lost hope of being happy. Even when the words of aunty Nelly kept banging on my heart. I still felt confined.

A week past and my parents weren't talking to me. I decided to stay in my room and do nothing. When I got out I would walk down the road aimlessly and watch people walk or drive by.

One evening I came back from my usual walks and my father followed me in my room.

I stood up and looked at him, he looked around the room and frowned indicating for me to sit down.

" Jared" , be begun. " i have tried everything I could as a father to make you into a man. I took you to one of the best schools in town and you repaid me with insults by becoming so unruly and getting yourself suspended more than I can recall. The only reason you stayed in that school is because your mother knows the principle there. Otherwise they could have expelled you a long time ago.

Now tell me, what do you want my son? What is it that you lucky in this house that has led you to your current behaviour?" He asked me

I shifted uncomfortably on my bed.

I watched my father who didn't move his eyes from me. He's stare getting to me.

I cleared my throat and got courage looking at how calm he was. I thought of the words of aunty Nelly " try to let your parents understand you"

" well father," I started. " i... I don't like school. I don't seem to understand anything at all no matter how much I try. I swear I tried studying but I couldn't just get it. Sometimes I feel I heard every thing the teacher says but in the end when it comes to write I don't seem to remember a thing. It's like I can't match the questions with the things I study or hear.

" I paused to look at dad, who's face didn't show any emotions. He was quite and I jumped in my heart. Glad that I got him to understand me finally.

I sat up encouraged as I poured my heart out.

" what I love the most and find it so easy to do is ball room dancing, you know," I shrugged. " Salsa, waltz, ....." I went on metioning the dances to him and I couldn't finish my list when I felt my head turn round in circles.

I fall on my back in the bed holding my cheek where dad's slap had landed.

Shocked in the moment as I saw my father's eyes turn red with anger.

" now, listen to me you good for nothing boy, this is the last time you will ever say that to my face. How dare You?. Here I am trying to get you to reason like a man and you go about spitting in my face you hate school and love that, that , stupid dancing thing," he stammered in his last words.

" not in my house, you hear. Not under my roof with that bulshit. Now let me warn you. If I hear anything about your unruly behaviour and you dancing around. Tstststst" he clicked his tongue.

" that is the day you will stop being my son." He snapped and walked out..

" pack your clothes you are going to a boarding school tomorrow" he shouted back at me before slamming the door making me jump.

" boarding school? Seriously?" I cried shutting my eyes as the effect of the slap was still making me feel dizzy.

I cramped myself to sleep that night and wished I wouldn't wake up. Aunty Nelly was wrong. My parents would never understand and now they are sending me away to some boarding school I didn't even know.

"How ironic" I thought aloud.

"What a better way of pushing me out of their lives."

The Next Morning

Location: FOX Corporation Headquarters, EPA, Bexford.
Time: 08:10AM

In a very large hall which served as an open office for close to a hundred FOX officials, the eyes of almost every official present in the hall were glued to the television set close to them. There were three large flat screen television sets in the hall. One at the center of the wider wall which was opposite to the main entrance door, the other two at the center of each side walls.

*MESS
The FOX Chairman, Agent Paul Edwards has however not made any official statement on this and we are yet to confirm if the death of Agent Elkim is connected to recent kidnaps and killings. More details to be revealed as soon as they come... I'm Debby, reporting for Bexford News.

"Let's move," Agent Steve tapped Agent Dan on the shoulder just about the same time the reporter concluded. "The executives are already waiting for us."

Agent Dan and Evelyn had stopped in the hall to watch the news while waiting for Agent Steve to join them. They followed behind Agent Steve after he tapped Dan and walked away through the exit into an hallway. After two minutes of turning and switching from one hallway to another, Agent Steve finally stopped and touched the bell at a door. Daniel and Evelyn stood behind him.

The door opened after thirty seconds.

"Come in Steve," Agent Samuel who held the door handle said in soft tones.

All three Agents stepped into the room and Agent Samuel closed the door. He walked past them to take his seat behind the office table where he was previously sitting. Paul Edwards and two other FOX executives were also sitting at the same side. Three empty seats obviously meant for Steve, Dan and Evelyn were at the front of the table.

"Please have your seats quickly," Paul Edwards said and leaned forward to the table to pick up his pen.

The three younger agents sat on the seats meant for them and the discussion began.

"We are at critical times now and we've got to take critical measures, the three of you were at Elkim's house yesterday, I read your reports but I'll also like to hear verbally from you," Paul Edwards said. He stopped and stared at Agent Steve's face for a response.

"Sir, as was stated in the report, we met many FOX officials shot with tranquilizing bullets without being injured. Others were slightly injured and also shot with tranquilizers while very few were found dead." Steve began.

Paul Edwards scrolled through a tablet device placed on the table in front of him while Steve talked. "You have the figures in the reports here," he interrupted.

"Yes, we do." Steve replied. He paused for few seconds before he continued talking. "Agent Dan traced and found Agent Elkim's daughter up in the roof with the alarm activator that alerted us, she told him her father instructed her to stay up there until he or any FOX official comes up to get her. After entering into almost all rooms in the house, I found Agent Elkim dead in one of the rooms. Forensics confirmed overnight that he was shot thrice in the belly after some sort of struggle."

"Are these figure correct?" Paul Edwards interrupted again, looking into the report on the device. He raised his head and stared at Steve. "How many FOX officials did you find left unhurt and untouched?"

"Just two, they hid until we showed up there." Steve replied.

"Just two?" Paul raised a brow. Steve nodded in confirmation. Paul leaned back against the backrest of the chair and glanced at the faces of the men by his right. He leaned back forward again. "According to this report, the two men claimed that the assailants were four, three men and a woman and they were all dressed in police uniforms."

"Yes," Steve confirmed. "But only three of them were dressed in uniforms, two men and a woman, they got into the place trickily..."

"I read that part," Paul Edwards cut in again. "The only explanation I need now is what happened to the policemen called to come in by Elkim and how only four men were able to take down over thirty FOX Agents."

"Sir, we confirmed from the Bexford Police Headquarters this morning," Evelyn joined in. "A group of four policemen were sent to Agent Elkim's house after something pertaining to EC23 case was reported, but the policemen were ambushed by unknown men, who we now strongly suspect to be the same assailants who murdered Agent Elkim."

"So they ambushed the police officers and killed them?" Paul asked to confirm from Evelyn.

"They weren't killed, they were tranquilized" she nodded gently in reply.

Paul turned his gaze back to Steve. "Even if they could get the police officers, I'm still baffled by the number of FOX officials those four men were able to bring down."

"I think it points to the fact that these men aren't ordinary people," an Agent sitting by Paul's left hand side put in. "And it's quite sad that we can't retrieve any of the footages documenting the men from the surveillance cameras."

"And how is that even possible?" Paul Edwards cut in and looked at Steve's face again.

"We visited the National Surveillance Cameras Agency last night and they only have records of how the police vehicle was driven into the late agent's house but no records of the Bexford Policemen being attacked," Agent Dan was the one who answered. "I also found out this morning that the police vehicle was not hijacked, those men came ready in another police vehicle of theirs."

"If the surveillance cameras have footages of the men driving into Agent Elkim's house, then we can trace their origin from that," Agent Samuel put in.

"We're still putting links together and we are yet to start tracing in that direction," Steve replied. "This morning, some of the team members would be checking through all the footages recorded, some others would be checking for issues relating to the absence of communication network and road system network, I and another person would return to the Agent's house again to check for more facts while Agent Evelyn would be investigating the relationship between Agent Tam's kidnap and release and last night's event."

"Are you yet to visit the crime scene this morning?" Agent Paul questioned with a raised eyebrow.

"I was there when you called me, I got there as early as 6am." Steve replied.

"The Road Safety Corporation Head apologized this morning for the failure of the system, he said a bug was discovered from the control source but he was yet to ascertain if it was hacked or it was just a technical issue." Agent Samuel said.

"I got that information already sir," Daniel replied. "But like Agent Steve has insisted, I also do not think it was a coincidence that the networks went off last night."

"If these men are the same men who distorted the networks, then it would mean we are dealing with a very dangerous group." another of the executives spoke out.

"Very dangerous group indeed!" Paul exclaimed thoughtfully. "And that's why everyone of us here is joining the investigation from this moment, we need to clear this all out before it becomes bigger than we expect. Our major priority for this moment is to find out the men who killed Agent Elkim. We would do no other..."

"Yes sir, that's important but I think there's something else we need to focus on first." Steve interrupted politely and stared into the Chairman's eyes, seeking for permission to continue. The chairman squinted at his face. "Sir, we should not forget that the Invisible terrorists mission is what has led us in this direction, we need to establish the link between all these cases. We need to know if it is the same group of people who killed Richard Brad, who kidnapped Henson and Agent Tam that has also done this to Agent Elkim and why Agent Tam wasn't killed. This will help us to determine how necessary it could be to split the files."

There was total silence in the room as everyone remained quiet to ponder on Steve's words.

Time: 8:15AM
Location: Benuit, Bethanna.

"What is it Elvis, that you cannot tell me on phone?" Hutton asked in a loud dominating voice as he walked into the living room where Elvis was sitting.

"Welcome Hutton," Kahn got up on his feet and stepped forward to the centre table to pick his phone.

Hutton turned round the table to the other side and stopped briefly to take Kahn's handshake, then he walked to a sofa close to the one Kahn had gotten up from.

Kahn after unlocking his phone, walked back to the seat slowly with his eyes still glued to the screen and his finger working on it.

"Here," Kahn after sitting down handed the phone to Hutton. "I got that message from Elkim last night, few minutes before he was reported to have died.
**Mess
I think Hutton may be right after all, it seems we've got Carl Winston back alive.

Hutton wasn't surprised on reading the message. He wasn't called the strategist for nothing. When he had told them several months ago that Carl could still be alive, it was coming from his carefully done calculation and he wasn't just talking out of fear.

He had heard of Agent Elkim's death in the news that morning and was wondering who in the world had the temerity to visit a FOX executive in his home and kill him there but on seeing this message, he confirmed that the killer was non other than the most capable person alive - Carl Winston. He no longer had doubts that Carl Winston was alive. He now had enough proof that Carl Winston is not just alive but back and on a mission to destroy the Red Wolves.

The men maintained total silence between each other for close to three minutes. Kahn kept glancing from time to time at Hutton, expecting him to make a comment about the message but Hutton was yet to, even after returning the phone immediately.

"What do you have to say about this Hutton? How do we confirm that it really is Carl Winston?" Kahn was forced to ask. He already knew Hutton's likely answer to the questions but all he needed was for Hutton to speak.

"We need no more confirmations," Hutton replied and turned his face slowly to him. "Now that Carl Winston is back, all we need to do is hunt him down and finish him off totally."

Kahn stared thinly at the ground for a while before he looked at Hutton's face again.

"How easy will it be now?" Kahn asked. "I think our greatest chance against him was the last, he was shot thrice in the belly and let into the Bexford sea but he still survived somehow."

Hutton got up from his seat and walked slowly to the window. He pulled the curtain aside and stepped closer to have a view of the car park from the second floor where he was. He was there for almost a minute before he turned back again.

"Carl Winston has always appeared to be the most determined one," Hutton said after taking two steps and stopping to face Kahn directly. "He's supposed to be dead but I guess the thought of having his friend and the family, and his wife and kid die gave him the determination to stay alive. He's back with that determination to fish us out."

"Which means he would be more dangerous now," Kahn put in.

"No, no matter what determination he has. We are also determined," Hutton paused to stare at Kahn's face. "I especially have the the determination to continue the Red Wolves movement and Carl's determination can't be as strong as mine, I've been nurturing it since for several years."

"How do we stop him?" Kahn asked in low tones. He trusted that Hutton would have already been searching his mind for a game plan.

"We would stop him easily," Hutton said reassuringly, even though he hadn't gotten a specific plan. "He always had Agent Rex by his side and the love from his family keep him going, but now that he has none of the two, I believe it would be easy to destroy."

Kahn got up from his seat. "We need to call a meeting with everybody at the strategy house," he suggested.

"No!" Hutton disagreed strongly. "I told you I was going after whoever he was before, allow me continue on it alone until the rest of the men ask questions."

Kahn stared at him for a while, as if he was considering whether to trust him or not.

He finally took in a deep breath before speaking, "If you would not let the whole team know, then you've got to involve me in whatever your plans are."

"Elkim Nuel sent this message at least forty five minutes before I met him, it meant he recognized me even with the disguise." Henry said to Cole as he walked back into the control room. He was looking into Agent Elkim's phone which he had in his hand. He had been able to unlock it that morning after decoding the password from one of the other recovered device.

"But how could he have recognized you? Your disguise was perfect and was still intact even after we left the place," Cole asked, taking a glance at him as he walked closer. Cole had four devices in front of him beside the desktop, all of the items belonging to the late Agent Elkim. There was a tablet device close to the CPU of the system and connected to it with a USB chord.

Henry settled in a seat close to Cole, just a chair and computer set in between them. He pushed in the boot button on the computer CPU and then dropped the phone in his hand on the table.

"Agent Elkim Nuel has known me for more than fifteen years, he's seen me disguised several times in different forms and since I haven't changed a lot since then, it would have been easy for him to recognize me." Henry replied Cole. He glanced at the desktop screen to check how far the computer has booted.

Cole turned back to face his computer but turned to Henry again after few seconds. "He must have watched you through the surveillance cameras in the house, I hope that doesn't mean there was a record of our visit to the house."

"No, I cleared them off when I got into the computer room," Henry replied, flashing back quickly to how he forced the computer operator to delete all the footages collected from all the sources.

Henry held the mouse and navigated to the start button. He clicked and moved up to one of the apps and right clicked, he chose the "run as anonymous" option and clicked on it.

He picked the phone he dropped on the table again and unlocked the screen. He opened the messaging and clicked on the last conversation. He clicked the option icon displayed at the top bar and clicked on get details. A box popped up showing the phone number of the message receiver, the sent time and delivery time. He opened the notepad application and typed in the phone digits.

He spent twenty minutes using the app to trace the position of the device which received the message but found no location. He then switched to his Google Chrome browser, the youngicee.com site opened as the homepage. He opened another tab beside and typed in Elvis Kahn.

So many results were displayed from different websites, showing the profiles of different men with the same name. Henry clicked on the first result and it led to wikipedia site. He saw a list of four men who had both names but different middle names. He decided to take his time to go through each one of them.

"Boss, I just finished changing the systems of these devices," Cole said after about fifteen minutes of total silence. "They can't be reached anymore by GPS trackers or IMEI."

"Great!" Henry replied with a quick glance at him. "Start working on extracting all useful information from the devices."

14:25PM

Henry walked towards the dining room casually after few hours of work. Lunch had been served and the other members of the team were already at the table eating. He dropped his phone on the table and settled in the seat.

He opened his plate and smiled on seeing the food prepared, he picked the knife and fork and was about to start eating when his phone began to ring. He took a pause and checked the screen, Sheila was the caller.

His smile disappeared as he picked the phone. He excused himself from the table and answered the call as he walked away.

"Hello Sheila," he said into the phone.

"Good afternoon Henry," Sheila voice sounded in Henry's speaker.

Henry felt guilty at the sound of her voice. He closed his eyes as he turned the knob of the room and stepped inside.

Hidden Dream - Episode 2

A Story By Tisa Phiri

I woke up with a start as the alarm clocked 06 am. I slowly turned it off and lay on my bad facing the ceiling.

I heard the rain failing from outside the window. From the sound of the water falling from the roof to the paved small drainage outside, I could tell it was a heavy rainfall.

For a minute I thought of not getting off my comfortable bed. I held on to the smooth blanket on top of me and placed my hands in the warmth of my inside between my thighs.

"Oh God!" I whispered wishing I could be left to rest and out of the struggle that I was yet to face in school..

It was a Monday, adding salt to the wound, I had a first class with my biology teacher who evidently hated me. Well maybe cause I never got to pass his subject. But it was clear the man had a thing for rich kids and I was unfortunate to be from a rich family at the same time not a good performer in his subject..

I was lost in thoughts when I heard the maid call out my name from the other side of the door.

"Am coming aunty Nelly!" I shouted back. She knew I would take long to do as I told her so she opened the door and came in.

"I said am up and coming" i winned when she went straight to open the curtains and the wide windows.

"Uhhhh!" I hissed..

" come on Jared" aunty Nelly rebuked. " you are going to school and if you dont get up any minute soon....."

"Yeah I know," I cut her.

" my father will be mad that am delaying the driver," I finished her sentence..

" Yeah" she chuckled standing straight at me.

"I hate school" I whispered covering my face..

I was so free with aunty Nelly. The woman practically raised us. She was employed as a maid years back when I was only 7. We were more close to her than mother. Well.. especially myself.

To say the least, I loved her so much. It was the fact that she understood me and never judged me that caused me to get so close to her. She was easy to talk to and a good listener too.

"Get up lazy boy" she shouted pulling off the blanket.

"If your father heard that statement of you hating school, God help us" she let a laugh.

I jumped out of bed. I was just in my boxers and wasn't bothered she was there. She watched me as I stretched myself and yawned loudly..

"What? Am up now.. Happy?" I smiled at her.

" am super happy" she smiled back widely.

" let me prepare breakfast for you guys. Be in the dinning room soon. You have about 10 minutes to finish bathing and dressing up" she added and slowly walked out closing the door behind her.

After some minutes I held my bag and walked to the dinning table.

"Good morning dad!" I called out to my father who was seated already going through the newspaper.

"Good morning" he responded without taking off his eyes from the paper.

My mother and sisters all walked in at once. Everyone was ready. My sister's in their uniforms and my mum in a perfect black suit and heels making her look like a model. My mother had that sense of perfection. Everything starting from her head to toes was always in order. She loved to look her best and my father always looked at her with admiration. Even though I never heard him recommend her in our presence.

"So honey, have you told your children you are going out of the country" mum spoke up as we ate.

Dad cleared his throat, " well you all heard your mum am going out for a couple of months. I have some work to do in the US"

"Daddy bring me something nice!" Nina shouted. " I would love a new iPhone and some catchy clothes" she added.

I looked at everyone make their demands. I couldn't help feel sorry for myself. I was the oldest among the children in the house but I had no phone. According to my parents I would get a phone when I completed my school since they thought a phone got my attention from school. Which wasn't the case with my sister's.

I hated being around their cheering and shouting when I was heating up inside. What hurt the most, was that my parents didn't even bother to ask if I wanted something too.

" what about you Jared? , what do you want dad to bring for you? " Nina asked looking at me as I nibbled on my food.

"Nothing," I answered calmly. Looking up from my plate.

I saw my parents exchange glances.

" You can tell your father what you want son. Everyone has made their demands. Am sure you want something," my mom spoke up.

"The boy said nothing, so it means he doesn't want anything.. why are you forcing him" my father responded harshly.

I looked at them straight up. I almost said something but dropped back my eyes.

I slowly pushed the chair back and excused myself.

"Jared! My father called me back as I just got to the other room.

"Sir!" I answered and walked back my head down.

"You are so rude You know that? Your stubbornness is so evident, It's no wonder you never do anything right because you don't want to be as expected. How dare you walk out on us when we are talking as a family?" He snapped.

"You have not even touched your food and yet someone had to work hard to put that food on your plate."

I almost apologised but I recalled his words the previous night when he rebuked me for always apologising so instead I decided to give an excuse for walking out on them.

"I am not hungry father, and I had to check on something before the driver comes to pick me," I explained without looking up at him.

" sonny! Is there anything you want to say to me or your mother here?. It's either you are not hungry or busy doing something. It's like you avoid being around any of us in this house." Dad talked calmly but in a way that told me he was displeased yet again with me.

I was a cheerful boy before all this begun. I used to ran around the house and shout excitedly.

I used to ran to my father whenever he came back home from work.

Sometimes he took me alone out to some games and he would ask me to join him as he went to play golf with his friends.

But now I couldn't stand him.

The first time I failed grade 9 exams I recall how angry my father was with me. I tried to work hard the following year but I still failed and he now turned his back at me . He would rebuke me for almost any thing and I lost my freedom and my joy over time.

I was becoming accustomed to being treated as an outcast just because I wasn't the son they expected. I one day tried to talk to my father about my desire to dance and it made everything worse.

He scolded me for being a fool who didn't value his life and had shallow dreams.

He told me he wanted me to make it big since I had everything I needed.

My parents made every thing seem so hard. The more they pushed me to work hard at school the further I felt draged away. Now I was just a living being with no sense of belonging. I felt like a stranger in my own home.

"Jared!" My mother raised her voice at me.

"Here we go again," my sister Tina shrugged biting the piece of sandwich.

I gave her a stare. "Mind your own business" I whispered firmly.

"Mom and dad are talking to you and you have zoomed out on them. What's your problem Jay?"

" your sister is right.." Dad answered. " you don't regard anyone in this house. You have decided to live in your own world."

"The driver is here" aunty Nelly called out saving the moment.

"Excuse me," I whispered and walked out as quickly as I could.

I heard my mother say something to dad but I didn't bother to pay attention.

"Have you got your lunch box? " aunty Nelly asked as i stood outside waiting for the driver to reverse the car so that he parked closer to the verander from the garage. It was still raining.

"No aunty, I am not taking it am not hungry" I said looking out. .

" Listen my son, you have to eat something, you haven't had your breakfast and you won't stay the whole day without food. Come on now do it for me" she held my hand.

I looked at her and I felt a strip of water in my eyes.

" it's Okey, every thing will be Okey" she whispered tightening her hold on my hand. She looked sad and I was sure she felt for me. She always looked out for me more especially when everyone threw their insults and rebuked me.

"They hate me" I whispered back.

" I feel like an outcast." I added.

"Don't say that Jay, your parents love you. They just want what's best for you. They want you to be happy"

I knew she was just saying it to comfort me. But her words didnt give me any comfort at all.

" and I love you too my handsome boy, you are the most handsome teenager I know" she smiled widely.

I could feel her love and I knew her smile was genuine.

"I love you too aunty Nelly " I responded and let her hand go as the car stopped in front of us.

I was glad my sister's where going with my father. Otherwise I could have had the longest drive to school.

I was fastening my seat belt when Aunty Nelly came to the window and handed me some money.

" at least get something to eat at school"she smiled.

I almost turned down her offer but she wouldn't take a no for an answer..

Reluctantly I got the money and thanked her before the driver drove out the gate.

Restless - Episode 52

His hand was twisted as he was pulled forward. Another hard punch was delivered into his belly and he was left to fall to the ground.

He fell to the ground in pains but like the strong man he was quickly picked himself up and balanced on his feet to continue the fight.

Henry turned properly to face the Agent. He still had his eyes filled with rage and burning desire to end the Agent's life for betraying the country.

Agent Elkim quickly picked up a footstool and charged towards Henry. He struck, aiming at Henry's forehead but Henry swerved quickly to dodge. The man with the two hands swung the footstool to Henry again and Henry dodged again, moving to the other side. He responded swiftly by hitting the man with both fists in the belly.

The man tottered a step back but launched forward again immediately, raising the stool again to slam on top of Henry's head. Henry with his long hands grabbed both hands of the man close to the wrists while they were still up, he followed with a heavy kick into the man's belly. He then took the stool from the man's hands and flung it away. He turned back to the man to get a hard punch in his belly. He caught the man's fist as the man threw another punch. The man threw yet another one to his face but he blocked it again and sent a headbutt to the man's face.

The Agent staggered back but launched forward again, kicking Henry hard on the left thigh. He stepped forward and sent a punch to Henry's face. The first punch was dodged and the second hit Henry slightly on the shoulder but before he could make another attack, he felt Henry's both hands tightly on his shoulders and as he raised his head to look, he got Henry's head slamming his face.

His eyes closed as he staggered back. Before he could open his eyes, a heavy punch landed on his face again and two more followed, sending him crashing into the shelf. Henry pulled him up quickly and delivered two more punches into his belly, making him fall back one more time.

Henry's speed seemed to have increased, he needed to finish up the man before he ran out of time.

He pulled the man up again and gripped him by the neck. He lifted him up with the hand around his neck, attempting to slam him against the wooden shelf but the man was able to struggle and drop off his grip. The man charged into Henry's belly with the head, making both of them crash on the floor.

They both got up quickly and Agent Elkim was quick to land a kick on Henry's upper thigh close to his genitals, he tried to kick again but Henry was fast enough to roll away and raise a kick to his face. The man staggered back and fell down. He tried to get up quickly but Henry was there again and delivered another kick to his face, sending him back against the shelf again. He rose quickly to a crawling position but could not go further as another kick hit him in the belly and he hit his neck against the shelf.

Henry dragged him up quickly, held him by the chest as he took two steps backwards and rammed him into the shelf. He pulled him closer again and rammed him twice more. He pulled him by the neck and took two steps backward, then he left him with his grip on on the neck and smashed him against the wooden shelf, breaking some parts of the wooden materials. He pulled him up again and repeated the process twice more before throwing him to the ground.

He stared down in disgust as the man sprawled on the floor, groaning in pains. He looked up as he heard some slights sounds around the place.

Samantha appeared at the door. "Boss, we have just twelve minutes left to get out."

Henry turned his gaze back to the man on the ground without replying Samantha. He pulled out his gun and checked to confirm if there were enough bullets in it. He then stepped closer and fired three shots into the Agent's belly.

He watched as the Agent body spasmed in response to the first shot and how the man laid completely dead after the third shot.

___

Five Minutes Later.

"What in the world could have cause the failure in the electronic traffic control system?" Dan lamented again as he slowed down behind another jam of vehicles on the road. He was driving the car and had Agent Evelyn sitting beside him and Agent Steve sitting at the backseat.

Agent Steve glanced at his wristwatch again. "It's past thirty minutes since we got the alarm, we're so late."

"We have to do something quick about this," Agent Evelyn joined in as she unlocked the door.

'What are you doing?" Steve asked her. "I need to see what's happening on the road," she replied. She looked left and right carefully for incoming motorcycles before she opened the door and stepped out quickly. She closed the door and proceeded forward hurriedly.

Steve took out his phone again to check for network but the signal bars were still empty as they had been. "Other FOX men would have gotten the alarm from Agent Elkim but we don't know if they've been able to make any arrangements."

"The network issue might just be within this area," Daniel joined in. "There could be network at the office."

Steve, Evelyn and Daniel were together when Steve had gotten the emergency alarm on his phone. He had checked his map to locate the address from which the alarm was sent and he found out it was from Agent Elkim's house.

Agent Evelyn returned two minutes after leaving. "The traffic signs are still not working but the road safety officers are helping to control the traffic and it's moving already," she said after stepping back into the car.

A minute later, the car vehicles in front of them began to move slowly and they also followed. It took them seven minutes to get to the junction where the road safety officers were controlling the traffic from and just as they got there, the traffic light which was malfunctioning turned completely off.

___

"Be careful to avoid the potholes as much as possible, there are so many on this route." Henry said to Dave who was now driving the vehicle.

"Yeah, I'm conscious of that boss." Dave replied him.

Henry was sitting in front with Dave while the three other members of the team were sitting at the back. Apart from Jennifer and Henry, the rest of the team looked so rough and dirty, especially Dave and Cole. Henry was also not looking so fresh but he was still neater than the rest of the team.

Henry had Agent Elkim's phone in his hands, he had taken it from the man's pocket after shooting him dead. It was cracked on the screen but he was still being able to use it as it had not been destroyed completely.

The first thing he had checked on the phone was the recently used apps but Agent Elkim had cleared off the history. He then checked the recently dialled calls, the last call the man had made was in the past three hours when there was mobile network. He then began to go through the contact lists, he saw different names but he was unsure of which one to pay more attention to. He was still scrolling down the contact list when a flash message popped up.

Message Delivered

Henry raised a brow as he realized that a message the man tried to send earlier had just been delivered. He minimized the contacts app and switched to the messaging app but it demanded a password to be accessed.

Henry heaved a sigh.

"May I have the bag?" He turned back to ask Samantha.

She stretched forth the backpack on her lap to him.

He took it and placed it on his laps. He opened the bag and took out all the devices which Samantha had kept in it except the laptop. After taking a brief look at the items, he returned them into the bag and turned to Cole.

"For tomorrow, we'd have to work on accessing every detail on these devices." he said as he handed the bag to him.

Cole took the bag from him and nodded in response.

Agent Elkim's phone began to ring immediately after Henry turned to continue using it. Agent Steve was the caller ID displayed.

Henry stopped and squatted right in front. He stared into the man's eyes intently. He could still see the strong and resilient Agent Elkim even though he was now seeing a traitor also. He knew he wasn't just going to have it difficult getting any information directly from the man but that the man was not going to just sit and watch him ask questions. He was sure it wouldn't be easy when it got to the time to kill the man.

"I'm here to find out just one thing from you," Henry said and got the man to look into his eyes. "What exactly do you stand to gain with Paul in working with the Red Wolves?"

____

"Stay up and watch for me," Dave signalled to Cole strongly as he carefully climbed down the verandah of the house with his gun held firmly in his hands and pointed forward. He was sweating profusely and there were dust stains all over his body, he had also gotten a slight cut on his forehead.

Cole was standing back in the verandah. He looked dirtier than Dave was but had not sustained any visible injury, except that his shirt was torn halfway. He also felt some pains on his chest and arms.

It had been over sixty minutes of fighting with the FOX men. It started with the gun war which lasted for over thirty minutes before it gradually shifted to a fist war. Cole and Dave at a point had to switch from their use of the tranquilizing guns to guns containing LRN bullets as they were already getting overwhelmed by pressure from the FOX officers. The tranquilizing guns made very little or no impact like the normal lead bullet guns when they hit obstructions other than the target's body. So while they shot with the tranquilizing guns, the opponents shot with lead bullet guns which pierced through walls and barriers quicker, making it quite difficult and rough for them. After almost being overcome by the pressure, they had to switch in order to cause the same impact against the opponents.

They got down from the verandah at different points in time and involved the opponents in hand battles when there was need to.

For Dave as a trained Anthannian officer and experienced bodyguard and security personnel, it was easier to combat the FOX men with his fists and even guns, and that helped him in taking down over seventy percent of the men individually. It was more difficult for Cole to deal with the trained FOX men. He was a naturally good fighter but fighting the FOX men was quite different from fighting thugs and police officers which he was used to doing in Anthanna.

Cole cocked his gun quickly and fired a straight shot at a man who appeared from behind the garage after Dave had walked past.

Dave turned back immediately to see the dead man falling and glanced towards Cole as if to receive signal whether to continue or not. He turned back and continued to look around carefully, searching for men who could still be lurking around somewhere, planning to attack them.

___

Samantha closed the wardrobe and proceeded quickly to the drawer. She pulled it out and picked an android phone and an electronic wristwatch she found in it. She threw them to the bed where she already put three other mobile devices, digital wristwatches and a few micro chips which she found in the wardrobe. She closed the drawer and then picked the laptop on top of it. She walked back to the bed with the laptop and placed it in the bed, pulling other devices she had thrown on top together. She searched around the bed, under the sheets and pillows to see if there was still any device left. She found a small phone and a small rectangular device which she found strange. She gathered them together with the other devices and quickly took down her backpack, she opened the main zip and put the devices into the back before strapping it back on.

She checked her wristwatch for time as she proceeded to the door, there was only twenty two minutes left for them to join Jennifer in the car. Jennifer had been instructed to be at the pickup point before the time and also leave five minutes after the time, even if none of them had joined her yet.

Samantha took in a breath and turned to look back again as she got to the door. Her eyes searched around, wanting to locate any corner which she probably skipped searching in the room, she needed to make sure she carefully did her job of getting all of the man's devices in the room. She opened the door and stepped out after being sure that she had checked every corner in the room.

"You're ain't making sense Carl," Agent Elkim dismissed Henry's question with a scorn. He stared into his eyes with a look of contempt, "You died last year Carl Winston, we performed your final rites and last honours already. This your ghost that has probably returned seems to be an insane version of you."

Henry smiled back slightly at the man. He knew he was trying to get at him with words but Henry was not falling for it.

"Just talk to me Agent Elkim, don't beat about the bush." Henry said to him.

"You're the one beating about the bush," Elkim replied, raising a side of his upper lip up in contempt. "You're here accusing me of working with the Red Wolves without any evidence."

"Now, can you explain to me why Paul Edward's son was feigned to be dead and also why Paul Edwards sneaks out into town like an ordinary man?" Henry asked in a firm and serious tone.

"Wrong question to the wrong person!" Agent Elkim fired at him. "You should be asking Paul Edwards and not me."

"But you knew about all this, you're a accomplice to it and you help keep his secrets."

Agent Elkim stared at his face without answering.

They were so close to each other, within arms reach.

Henry was expecting anything, he knew the Agent was swift and strong and could also be tricky.

Agent Elkim was also aware Henry was expecting an attack, he had to do something that will take him off completely.

"They are not my secrets and they're not your bleeping business," Agent Elkim said in a desperate tone as he surged towards Henry at once, trying to grab him by the shoulder as he also swung his legs towards the legs on which Henry squatted.

Henry grabbed Elkim's hands before they could touch his shoulders and before the legs could reach his, he raised him by arms and swung him to the other side, making the man land on his back.

The Agent felt deep pains as his back touched the ground but he did his best to hold the pain in and launched a kick to Henry's chest which was bent above him. Henry grabbed the man's feet by the ankle as the foot to and twisted it sharply, making the man let out a loud groan.

Henry took some steps back to give the man some space. He took a quick glance at his wristwatch and noted the duration of time he had left. He decided to round up with the man in ten minutes time.

"Just talk to me Agent Elkim, we don't need to go through this process when you know well that I'll still find out what I need to know." Henry said as he watched the man try to get up. "Tell me the exact reason you and Paul are with the Red Wolves."

"Don't ask me silly questions Carl, just do what you are here to do." Agent Elkim said in a thick voice as managed to get to his feet. It was unknown to him that Carl Winston wasn't yet certain that he worked with the Red Wolves, he rather believed that Carl must have gotten his facts rightly before coming there, and he also believed that Carl was there to kill him.

Henry on the other hand was not completely sure. The only thing he was very sure of was Elkim's knowledge about Paul Edward's grandson who was announced to have died in the bomb blast, but with the responses he had gotten from Agent Elkim so far, his suspicions were being confirmed as true.

Henry allowed the man balance on his feet properly and face him. He stared into the man's eyes while the man stared back at him.

"Tell me where I can find the rest of the Red Wolves team, so I can end the terrorism once and for all." Henry said.

Agent Elkim laughed for some seconds. He stopped and shook his head while smiling mockingly at Henry.

"You can't stop this Carl, this is something different from every other challenge you ever faced in your entire life, the Red Wolves has men more powerful than you can ever think." Agent Elkim replied, confirming Henry's suspicions fully. "And why Paul Edwards decided to work with the Red Wolves in deceiving the world, you would have to ask him that yourself."

Henry narrowed his gaze at the man. He felt anger surge through his veins like blood being pumped in with high pressure from an external source. This man, Paul Edwards and other executives of the FOX were men the world trusted to protect and secure them with their lives but they were the ones working with enemies to destroy the people.

Henry threw down the long gun in his hand and clenched his fist signalling with that to Agent Elkim an invitation to a fist battle.

Agent Elkim also clenched his fists. He knew it would be very difficult and almost impossible to defeat Carl Winston, but he wasn't going to give up without fighting.

Henry charged forward first and directed a blow to the man's face which was blocked swiftly by the man's hand. Another blow was directed to his belly but he blocked it again. He blocked one more to his chest and another to his face, then he bent to dodge another when a heavy piercing punch hit his ribs from the left side, making him stagger backwards and ending up hitting his back against the loaded shelf.

He raised his head up quickly and launched a blow to Henry face but he was caught firmly by the wrist when his fist almost touched Henry's nose. He stared into Henry's eyes at that moment and saw the rage and pain in it. He felt so guilty on remembering that instant how Carl Winston was committed to serving the FOX and serving humanity, he realized the pain and betrayal he must have felt learning that some of the FOX executives were part of the Red Wolves and among those who planned he and his family's death.

The Bodyguard - Episode 29

By Tisa Phiri

Paula....

A week later in Chongola, I had been staying in the hotel visiting the hospital but of course the major reason was the fact of me seeing Ackim everyday.

He's headache had lestened but he still couldn't remember a thing, the most exciting thing though was that he just had this tender look and gentleness towards me. I loved the way he looked at me and talked. I never got to tell him about us, for a reason, i wasn't comfortable telling him I felt like it was just right for him to remember things on his own.

He was still in a State of confusion and for me that was an excuse enough not to push him to love me. Though I trully desired him.

I sat at the restaurant waiting for him one afternoon, he just called to meet me up something to do with George. Ackim had told me he had been following him since he came from the police cells. According to him, he had gone to see him some time back when he recovered from the accident wounds.

"Even if I didn't know him I knew he was not up to any good." Ackim told me.

"now that you have given me an hint about my past and this man, I now want to finish my mission and make sure I protect you and your father. It's my job after all" he added..

Well here I was waiting for him to show up and I was getting worried since it had been over 30 minutes since he called me but he wasn't showing up.

I looked at my phone, it was past 18 hours and I started panicking.

I tried to call him but nothing he's phone went unanswered.

Another 30 minutes passed and I was almost loosing my mind. I got up, grabed my hand bag and went to my car. I had to go look for him at his place.

"Hello, good evening?" I greeted James and Dr Mwamba as I walked to them in their yard. They Sat on garden chairs on the veranda.

"Evening my dear" they both answered with smilling faces.

"Is Ackim home?" I asked without sitting down.

" I had an appointment with him but am worried he didn't show up" I explained..

"No my dear" Dr Mwaba answered "he left over an hour ago and he has not returned since."

"Oh my God!" I frowned.

"he never does that, where could he be? I tried calling him but he is not picking up the calls."

Worried, I went back to the car, after some minutes of thinking I decided to drive to river side.

"maybe he went to George's place and something happened there" I shivered at the thought.

"oh my God, please let him be safe " I prayed silently.

"he has to be okey, not this time my God, he should be okey"

My phone rang and I quickly picked it.

"Halo Paula it's me" Ackim's mother answered.

"are you with Ackim?" She asked .. "I have been trying his line but he isn't answering."

"Um no mam , but don't worry I will tell him you called am not with him right now." I responded.

I didn't want to tell her what was happening. she was recovering well over the week, the Doctors assured us she would be discharged the next day. I was glad Ackim was trying to be close to his mother and sister. Even though I could tell it wasn't easy for him.

He had been insisting he wasn't really attached to them both but with me he said he actually felt more than comfortable.

I was lost in thoughts as I drove to river side, when something caught my attention as I indicated to turn right, the road heading to the plots..

I saw Kakoma and another guy, who's face looked familiar but I couldn't remember where I had seen him. I watched their car move ahead of me and I reduced the speed on mine so to avoid being spoted.

"What are these guys doing here?" I wondered as I watched them park outside George's wall fence.

Patiently I waited for them to come out. I was certain something wasn't right as they came out in a rush. George buttoning his shirt as they rushed to the car.

"let's go! now!" he shouted excited.

I ducked in the vehicle. luck for me I had changed the car, The X5 was at the garrage for servicing and I asked dad to send another vehicle for me.

Slowly and steadly I drove behind them as they turned left on the Kitwe road, heading in the Kitwe direction.

I felt my blood rise as they turned to some bushy place. Grabbing my phone, I dialled Dr Mwamba and informed her about my suspicions .

"please tell the police to follow me am sure these guys are up to no good." I told them before hanging up.

"Please Paula, just wait for the police don't go after them alone." she begged sounding really worried.

"No I won't sit and wait Dr it might be too late for Ackim" I told her cutting the line.

I concentrated and held the steering tight as I drove through some pot holes on the small path. I could see the new built filing station far on my right.

A few minutes later, I noticed a shed in front of me and the car I was following parked outside.

I got the gun from my bag and headed out. I had been walking around with it for the past weeks. I wasn't ready to be caught unaware. I had to prpare myself all the time.

I was walking slowly to the shed when I felt a grip on my neck..

" drop the gun you stupid brat!" i heard George's voice echo in my ears.

I threw it down quickly and he pushed me to the ground.

"well, how you made things easy for me" he smiled wickedly.

" I was supposed to call you on your boyfriend's line so you come, now see how God can provide. Things are just falling in place for me" he teased..

"Where is Ackim you ingret!" I shouted furious.

He laughed aloud irritating me the more..

" well, let the party begin!" he told Kakoma and the other guy.

"take her inside" he ordered.

I was lifted and taken inside the shed, it looked like an old warehouse. it wasn't being used for something at all, It was full of wrecked cars on one side and empty everywhere else.

"Paula!" I heard Ackim's voice "what are you doing here?" He shouted.

"you should leave her alone" he spat looking at the now smiling George as they tied me across where Ackim was tied.

"No way!" George answered rudely

"she's the reason both of you are here" he told him.

" so now since all my efforts to get one of you at a time has failed, today is a blessed day for me because I will put an end to all this." he spat proudly.

"So any questions before your sentence?" He mocked sitting in between us. I looked at Ackim, he had some cuts on his head and blood was coming out. My heart reached out to him.

"he needs to see a Doctor. Please let him go" I pleaded crying as I saw him looking weak. It was obvious they had given him a serious beating. knowing Ackim, I knew he put up some fight I could see two guys standing near the entrance, they were swollen on their faces and one of them even had a deep cut on his arm.

"Well, he's better off dying from bleeding because what awaits him is worse." George answered me . "Whatever happens here, you two are dying today." His facial expression showed he was being serious and I felt hopeless.

"Let me tell you how the story begun" he announced leaning on the chair he sat on.

"at least you have to know before you go to your resting places" he added as he pulled up his trousers wiping his hairly legs and looking up at me with a wide smile.

Hidden Dream - Episode 1

A Story By Tisa Phiri

I looked at the books laying in front of me.. I really wished I could feel even a slight inch of desire to read what was in them but I just couldn't.. how do I get to read the books when whatever was written in them didn't make any sense to me. In fact I sometimes thought the words written inside those pages danced around in my eyes every time I tried to focus and read them.

Giving up, I stood up and grabbed a Music player before me on the other side of the table.. I plugged the head sets into my ears and tuned on the volume as i stood.

Now this is the feeling... I smiled to myself as I raised my hands up and did some slow moves following the beats of the song playing softly in my ears..

I danced around my room like my life was complete. It was the best feeling ever, to always do what I loved the most. In the moment I was being my true self. Nothing hidden, nothing fake, the real me and I loved the feeling.

Humming to the lyrics, I moved about extending my arms and holding my imaginary girl dancing with me. She smiled as she slid down and did her moves and i followed suit. It felt home...

I was lost in my own world dancing gracefully with my eyes shut and my lips mimicking the song, that I didn't realise that my mother was watching me. .the next thing I felt was a hot slap on my chick which made me jump.

As I turned to face where the interruption came from, I froze when I came face to face with my angry woman who starred at me with so much diappointment. I felt my knees go weak.

Here we go again, I thought to myself as I carefully removed the headsets and placed them back on the table as my mother's gaze kept on me.

"Jared", she started calmly, "my son". She paused making sure her first words got deep inside me. I was sure she was wishing I wasn't her son and the words were a consolation to herself hoping if she said it so many times she would come to terms with the fact that she gave birth to me, Her dull and unreasonable non dreamer of a child.

"How many times have we warned you to stop that stupid dancing of yours and concentrate on your studies?" she yeld, and I knew it had begun again.

I slowly sat back at my chair and looked down. Hoping that she would at least understand me. But I was wrong. Even after looking like an apologetic lunatic, she still went ahead and started yelling telling me how I was a disappointing child who couldn't study and pass like my sisters.

She scolded me and told me all the failing I had gone through.. clearly stating how I failed grade 9 more than 2 times and how she had fought hard to make sure I only managed to get a certificate to grade 10 after she practically bought leakages for me, just to make sure my father never kept his threat of throwing me out of the house if i failed again.

She reminded me of how she and my father spent a lot of money to ensure that I went to a good school. She ranted about so many things so much that her voice pierced my eye drums and got to my nerves.

I couldn't talk back so I decided to hum some song in my mind to avoid hearing the rest.

Not that I didn't want to hear it but because she had told me the same words over and over again. I could even say them back word by word.

She frowned as she stopped and looked at me.

"If you fail your grade 12 this time.. theres nothing left for you in this house. We won't spend any more dime on you. You better think about this cause we are tired Jared," she added before storming out angrily.

I looked at the door she left open and saw my little sisters laughing and making faces at me. "Woohoo" Nina whispered at me and made a face." Dull" She shouted and ran back before I could stand to slap her stupid face.

My sisters where very inteligent. Nina was in her 11th grade a year behind me and she was doing so much better in her studies. Sometimes she even helped me with my homework, of course after I paid her to.

She was very brilliant and it hurt that my parents clearly favoured her and my other sister Tina who was in her 9 th grade.

The two were so different. They easily passed even with little effort and I didn't just understand how they did that. I tried all I could to study, I paid attention in class. But for me at the end of the day, all I got where 9s and I had over time lost all hope of ever passing.

What I loved the most, no one seemed to understand nor accept.

I was a dancer.. I loved to dance with everything I got. The sounds of music was my very drive. But everyone i tired to tell that would clearly display displeasure and remind me that, that wasn't to take me any where in life.

"It is a damb thing for a man to love dancing," my friends would tell me. "Just get yourself to study man, Its your best chance at life especially in out country they would say."

So I decided to keep my mouth shut and never bought up the issue again.

I could only dance when I was alone in my room or hiding in the school abolition Block when everyone was in class.

I had not realised I had been staring at the biology text book in front of me for moŕe than 2 hours. not really studying, but lots of thoughts running in my mind, my own thoughts tormenting me to the core.

I pushed back the chair as I noticed that it was past 22 hours. Slowly I walked out of my room to the kitchen. I just realised I had not eaten my meals that evening and the stings of hunger started having an effect in my stomach.

I passed through the living room ignoring my father who was plugged in the couch, his legs on the coffee table as he watched the soccer game.

One look at the screen, I could tell it was his team, Arsenal playing with some team I didn't want to know.

He stopped me just as I by passed him.

"Jared!" He called out making me to freeze in my steps. The thing with my father was that, he was a very strict man and had a certain way of life he wanted me to adopt. He was a colonel in Zambia Air Force and most of the times I noticed how he brought his military thing home.

To say the least, I feared the man more than I loved him. He was exceptionally harsh with me. Stating his reasons of me being a man and so expected to lead by example to my sister's.

"I asked you a question boy!" I heard my father speak up.

Um am sorry dad, I quickly apologised and I could see his eyes looking sharply at me.

"What is wrong with you boy? " He asked firmly..

"You are always upset minded and never pay attention to anything. Am talking to you and you are busy day dreaming!" he shouted.

Am sorry sir, I starttered.

"There you go again." He frowned.

"You are always sorry, But you always end up doing the same thing, tell me son," he continued. " What are you sorry for?"

I slowly sat down knowing if I didn't do so another ballock of why i was so disrespectful would follow.

Am sorry for not paying attention I responded, almost in a whisper..

From the corner of my eyes I saw him move in his seat and I knew I wasn't going to have my meal which I so much desired any time sooner.

I saw the game on TV going on half time and I prayed to God that time could Fly so that the game would begin and I would be saved.

"You are turning 19 this year, mind you" my father continued.

" this year you are sitting for your grade 12 exams and I don't want anything to do with failing, you have to work hard at school like your sisters. Put in your best and pass and then I can assure you, you will go to whatever university in this country and I will get you that car you want" he added..

" make sure you make me proud son. You are growing and we won't be happy seeing you play around instead of working hard at school. We grabbed the phone from you so that you can conctrate in studying. Am I being clear? " he asked me.

Yes father I nodded.

" Now I will pretend I didn't hear stories of you doing some stupid dance in this house and always playing some music. That is no way for a Zimba." He warned sternly.

"You can go" he indicated with his hands as the game was starting again.

I smiled in my heart. Wow, thank God I thought, now I can finally eat.

I quickly warmed the food from the refrigerator and walked back to my room making sure I was as silent so as not to disturb my father.

Slumming the door to my room and almost regretting as I waited to hear my name called out for another rebuke for making noise.

I stood with my plate waiting to hear " Jared!" But when a couple of minutes passed I did a quick way of the cross thanking God for saving me that minute.

My name is Jared Zimba, son of Colonel Jared Zimba Sr. The first born in a family of 3. My mother is a banker and my sister Nina is the second born doing her 11th grade at Rodes Park school.. "He's gone back this way," the computer operator voiced out uncomfortably. Henry's palm was fastened to his neck and he was held against the wall in his computer room.

Henry glanced towards the other door where the operator pointed at him. He then glanced back at the operator's face before he softened his grip on the man's neck, he pulled him and closer and pushed him in the direction of the exit.

"Lead me there," Henry said to the scared man.

With his hands raised in the air, the embattled man led Henry to the door. Henry stopped at the door and looked into the long hallway just as the man opened it. At the same moment, Agent Elkim stepped out from a room close to the center of the hallway and turned towards them with the F-E12 rifle in his hands.

"What the bleep!" Henry cursed as he stepped back into the room quickly, followed by a rain of gunshots towards the place. He looked back and saw the dead body of the operator fall against the door into the room. He returned the tranquilizing gun back into his pocket and took out the lead bullet gun, he cocked it and held it firmly in his hand. He moved back slowly to the entrance and peeped out carefully, he saw the Agent running in the other direction with his gun hung. He stepped into the hallway quickly and followed first with light steps and increased his pace gradually to catch up with the man. He quickly stopped as he saw the man stop and turned back, he slid aside to rest his back on the wall and also fired a shot at the man as the man fired at him. The both of them missed and Henry continued with the pursuit while Agent Elkim proceeded in through an entrance into a large hall.

Henry stopped at the wall before the entrance of the hall and peeped in carefully. The hall was not well lit, it had different bulbs at different sections and had only some bulbs turned on while the others were off, making some parts of the hall dark. It looked like a library or study of some sort not could also be taken as a store of materials.

He looked around carefully but couldn't tell where the man had run into. He took sometime to scan through the hall and noticed the positions of some items. He identified points where the man could have hidden himself. His eyes also searched around the walls to see if there was an exit somewhere.

"Agent Elkim Nuel, step out and lets have a man to man discussion." he shouted into the hall, fastening his grip on the gun as he pulled his head back again. He looked backwards and noticed Samantha far away, at the entrance where the computer operator was killed. He signalled with his hand for her to proceed faster towards him, then he peeped again into the hall.

"Agent Elkim Nuel," he called in a loud voice once more. He looked back again and saw Samantha already walking hurriedly towards him. He made some signals and pointed towards the door where Agent Elkim had stepped out from. She nodded and hurried to the door, already knowing what she was supposed to do there.

After Henry watched Samantha go into the room, he peeped again into the hall. There were no sign of movements anywhere in the hall and it meant Agent Elkim was either hiding somewhere or he was no longer in the place. The only way to find out was going into the hall.

He bent down and then took another look into the hall, his eyes searched the floor and the walls looking for security measures or laser switches placed anywhere around. The place was a study and he wasn't expecting anything of such to be found in it but he still did not want to rule out the possibility.

He rose up back and held his gun firmly in his hand, he took in a deep breath and with a swift move turned into the hall with the gun pointed forward in his hand.

He proceeded further slowly and carefully, his hands moving with his gun from left to right and back as his eyes moved.

"Step out Agent Elkim, we need to talk." he stopped when he got to a table which was divided into six sections, created to give space for six people to study at once. His eyes carefully searched around the table and beyond, there were still no signs of Agent Elkim. His eyes moved to the walls again and scanned around but could not still find an exit or opening anywhere else.

_

Agent Elkim maintained his position without falling for the temptation to step out as he heard Carl Winston's voice echo in his head.

The man behind the kidnaps and death of some of the Red Wolves men all these while had been Carl Winston. The thought of it alone troubled him. It had never occurred to him that a day like this would come. He had known Carl Winston right from his first day of training as a FOX Agent though it took a long time before they met in person. He had seen him as a promising junior officer and one who would grow to become a tough and disciplined agent but he had never thought at that time that the junior agent would become someone as dangerous and fearful as he was now. He had watched over the years how Carl Winston and Rex grew in rank and respect and he knew when they became the most dangerous Agents in the FOX and even in the world. He also had seen them excel with tough cases which usually seem almost impossible to solve within the time frame given and had seen them come back alive at the last moment when they were thought to have been dead. But this was quite different. This fine around, the deaths of Agents Carl and Rex were planned by the master strategist himself, and unlike the previous cases in which they were yet to be declared dead by the FOX, this time they were declared dead in this case. How Carl could have survived the master strategist's death trap was something that seemed so confusing to him.

He closed his eyes and let out a breath again as he heard Carl's voice once more, the dangerous Agent was gradually coming closer to him.

What had he come back from the dead to do? Agent Elkim asked himself. He remembered watching the footages and seeing that the tranquilizing guns were used, and that meant Carl was avoiding killing his security agents and men around, but what Carl had in mind for him was what he could not tell. He had to find out what it all meant, and that would only happen if he could get Carl to talk to him.

His name was called by Carl again. He remained still and listened as sounds of the footsteps drew closer.

_

The place was so silent that one could hear a pin drop if it did, but Henry heard or saw no signs of movement. He was close to a dark area of the hall and there was a tall shelf of books in front. It was dark beside it and dark behind. He couldn't see if anyone or anything was hidden or hiding behind it but he was careful as he approached just as he had been at other different dark places.

He stepped forward slowly and carefully, expecting attack from any angle. Agent Elkim was a dangerous FOX official also skilled in fist battles and use of guns and he wasn't going to take any chances of being caught unawares. He was also conscious of the fact that Elkim had the advantage of being in his home and in a hall he knew better and could make use of that advantage to attack wisely and win if Henry was not careful enough.

He stopped close to the shelf for a second and looked around the walls again to search for an opening where Agent Elkim could have passed through. He proceeded carefully when he saw none.

He had just taken two steps forward when all of a sudden he noticed a movement from behind the shelf and saw a shadow coming in his direction.

He stepped back as quick as possible but the attacker was also very fast and still struck him in the belly with the butt of the rifle.

Agent Elkim followed up as Henry pulled back, he struck the gun in direction of Henry's face but Henry dodged this time by swerving to the left. He followed through as he leaped and turned, landing the back of his foot on Henry's chest. Henry staggered to the left and almost fell. Elkim launched towards him with the gun again to strike Henry on the face, but Henry dodged by bending and slid with a kick to his foot but the Agent leapt again and rolled with a heavy kick to Henry's face.

Henry fell back to the ground, hitting his back against a footstool in the process. He wanted to get back on his feet quickly but decided to lay on the ground flat. His face cap had fallen off beside him.

Agent Elkim stepped forward and stepped on the hand in which Henry had his pistol, pointing his own rifle down at him.

Henry stared at the Agent's face from the ground where he laid. He wasn't disturbed because he knew the gun in the Agent's hand was uncocked and before the Agent could cock and shoot, he still had at least two seconds to turn things around.

This was the first time he was going to be against Agent Elkim. He remembered watching Agent Elkim teach other guys including Rex during their time of undergoing the special FOX training but he never had the opportunity of being taught by him. He knew Agent Elkim to be ruthless and very skillful, one of the most feared agent after the Chairman of the FOX himself.

"What do you want from me Carl?" Agent Elkim asked, staring down into Henry's eyes. He knew that the only advantage he had against Henry in that hall was being familiar with the place and also getting into the place first and quick enough to hide where he could not be seen. He had even been surprised as he was able to get him lay on the ground so quick.

"I'm here just to have a word with you Agent, can you let me get up and talk?" Henry replied him.

"It's against the FOX's rule to allow trespassers make requests. Just tell me what've you come here to do before I send this bullet into your body." Agent Elkim threatened.

Henry chuckled and shook his head gently, still maintaining eye contact with the Agent. He was confident that he could bring down the Agent even though the man was tough. The Agent had been a step ahead when he had attacked him in the belly with the butt of the gun from his hiding place and he would have maintained the step ahead if Henry did not fall to the ground to stop the initial scuffle.

Agent Elkim knew Carl was up to something with the eyes movement and he did not want to take any chances. He thought of cocking his gun when he realized that the mistake he had made was keeping his feet on Carl's palm even after the gun had fallen off.

Henry was two seconds ahead of him in action this time as he pulled his leg and swung him forward, immediately rolling on the ground to the opposite direction. Agent Elkim cocked the gun as his leg was pulled but found himself unable to shoot as Henry had rolled in the opposite direction to where he was facing and now at his back. He landed with his back on the ground and before he could make any move, he felt a heavy punch on his face and also a kick in his chest.

_

Jennifer checked the time on the device again, an hour and thirty five minutes was gone already. Even though she had set an alarm to ring exactly one minute to the completion of the one hundred and twenty minutes, she still checked the time often. She hoped the rest of the team were still working with the planned time.

She kept her device on the passenger's seat as the backlight turned off. She looked out through the window at the surroundings again. Everywhere was cool and calm and the road was deserted due to the heavy traffic being caused by the malfunction of traffic signals, there were only few motorcycles and vehicles just moving within the area. She was however certain that the roads would soon get busy again as road safety officials had now gotten to different sections or the routes in town to help control the traffic in absence of direction from the set up electrical system. That was the more reason the rest of the team had to stick to the duration planned.

___

Agent Elkim felt drowsy as he stared at the face of Carl Winston standing before him. He wondered how he had felt he could ever defeat the young agent and how he had not realized that the Agent was setting a trap for him by acting weak and laying on the ground so easily. He blamed it on his age and his lack of active practice since he joined the board. His quick and swift movements which he hadn't done for sometime added to his drowsy feeling. And even though he knew he wasn't a match for Carl Winston at any point in time, he believed it would have still been more difficult for Carl to put him down like this during his years of active practice. He however wasn't ready to give up without a fight, he knew he said had it in himself, whatever Carl Winston was there for, he wouldn't be getting it easily.

Henry was now holding the man's rifle in his hand and pacing around him very slowly.

Agent Elkim sat up and followed him with his eyes for almost twenty seconds.

"So, why Carl Winston? Why are you back from the dead this time around?"

Henry stopped and squatted right in front of him. He stared into the man's eyes intently. He could still see the strong and resilient Agent Elkim even though he was now seeing a traitor also. He knew he wasn't just going to have it difficult getting any information directly from the man but that the man was not going to just sit and watch him ask questions, he knew it wouldn't be easy when it got to the time to kill the man.

"I'm here to find out just one thing from you," Henry said and got the man to look into his eyes. "What exactly do you stand to gain with Paul in working with the Red Wolves?"

The Bodyguard - Episode 28

By Tisa Phiri

Ackim.....

I thought after getting home that night l would sleep and rest my mind. well, l was wrong because l kept on turning in my bed , my body was tired but my mind was so active. I couldn't get over the feel of Paula close to me.

"What is wrong with me ?" l questioned myself loudly.

she was supposed to be my boss from what she told me ,but then l wondered why she stood so close to me. she seemed to like me more than she had mentioned. However, l figured if we had something going on maybe she could have told me..

By the time my eyes closed off it was almost morning and an hour later my phone rang. I woke up with a start , it was the alarm l had set. I picked it up and found a text from Paula. Thankfully l gave her my line so she contacts me to go see my mother at the hospital..

"am on my way, hope you are ready." the text read.

" shit !" I jumped out of my bed , l was so late. I took a quick shower and before l could finish dressing up Maya walked in to inform me Paula was outside.

"Oh God, tell her am finishing up" l responded as she smiled. she drew closer to me..

"see Uncle Will , l told you she`s gorgeous and she likes you too."

"well l like her because she knows who l am" l said plainly.

I saw her wink.

" mmmmmmm whatever" she shook her before leaving the room.

I made my bed as was my trend because l never left my room untidy no matter how late l was , and Maya always teased me about it..

" you act like a woman with your neatness and order uncle" she would tell me.

I grabbed a bun from the kitchen as l ran out to join Paula..

"See you guys!" l shouted as l walked out. I had told the family about everything Paula told me and Dr Mwaba and her husband encouraged me as always to take one day at a time.

"stressing your self will just hinder the recovering of your memory" she told me.

" We just hope your mother gets better soon.."

"Helo morning there ?" I called out to Paula as l sat in the passenger seat. The softness and comfort of the seat was exceptional.

"Sorry am late, l coudn't sleep last night"

" well that makes the two of us" she answered , turning the ignition.

"But you feeling okey ?" she asked as she joined the road..

"I have a slight headache, but am sure it will go away soon" l said biting on the bun.

"mind having a bite" l asked mockingly.

"um no l will pass" she smiled shrugging her shoulder...

"Thank heavens !" l exclaimed raising my hands ,

" l wasn't ready to share" l teased her and she laughed loudly the sound of her voice pricking through my heart and making me feel tickles in my stomach.

she sighed at last,

"some things never change" she whispered looking at me as her laugh faded.

"you were always jovial and would make each moment exciting" she told me without turning to look at me..

"Well l could do it over again if l have to see and hear your laughter" l said without even thinking. she swayed her head and looked at me for a couple of seconds and looked back on the road.

"So ?" I asked changing the subject ,

"are you married ? or engaged ?" I asked as l wiped my hands removing some cramps from outside the window.

She hesitated a bit and finally answered.." No, none of those but am in love with someone." she added quickly..

"Yeah of course" l said, not sure of myself whether l felt jealousy or disappointed. we were almost at the hospital and l felt nervous as we walked to the wards. I had no idea who my mother was so l feared to walk in to her and show l didnt know who she was. Paula told me my sister was around too..

She led the way and l looked at her long legs as she walked her slim fit skirt giving out her skin color. she walked me to some private ward.

"Hey" she smiled at the woman laying in bed a machine connected to her and a drip of water running into her arm slowly.

The woman smiled and turned to look at us. she frowned as she saw me stand next to Paula.

" Ackim ?" she whispered as she slowly sat up careful enough not to move the equipment connected to her.

"Is it really you my son ? Oh thank you my Jesus!" she shouted extending her hands to me. I was still for a moment not really sure whether to go to her or not. she was a total stranger to me and though l could see she was really glad to see me. she even shed tears.

"Come on Ackim go to your mother " Paula whispered to me ,

"atleast don't show her so much doubt."

" Yeah" l nodded, smiled and went to hug her. she held me and cried for some minutes.

" I knew you were alive somehow my son. I missed you so much and l wish your father was here to see this day" she cried still holding me tight. My hands were down as she held me , but after some minutes l held her back and rubbed her back.

" It's okey" l managed to tell her. I withdrew feeling a bit uncomfortable. she looked at me and she could tell l wasn't being myself.

"Am sorry mother, l have not told you Ackim lost his memory from the accident" Paula interrupted , saving me from the moment.

"He doesnt remember anything about himself, not even his name or family" she explained. My mother started crying again and Paula sat close to her and comforted her.

" It's okey please you have to calm down you are still not well, the doctor said it might take time but there's a possibility he might recover his memory. You dont have to worry now, your son is alive and this is what is important. " she whispered.

"Oh no poor thing" she frowned looking at me.

" Just when you find some peace again you won't remember a thing. My Jesus please intervene for him " she whispered tears in her eyes.

I felt bad she was crying so l sat next to her on the chair and held her hand.

"It's okey mother, whatever the case you will help me get to know myself by telling me my childhood stories for example" l told her trying to smile.

She smiled widely ,

"you were always the gentle one my son , the strongest of all and most popular Commando youth of the camp" she added with a laugh. I smiled back as l listened to her talk, she was amazing. she told me about my other two brothers and my sister. she explained her condition and how Paula came to help her. After some time the Doctor asked us to let her rest and we left her. I told her l would visit her every day and she was glad.

From the hospital Paula took me to my sister and she too was so happy to see me. she talked a lot and started telling me all versions of our childhood , how l unfairly treated her but would defend her from boys from her primary school as l was in high school back then and many other things I had no idea of. I had enough for a day and by the time we drove out of the lodge she was staying at , my head was pounding making me fail to focus. I pretended for some time but Paula noticed l wasn't well.

we had barely gone for a kilometer when l fall back in my seat, everything became dark as I lost consciousness.

I woke up in my bed at home Dr Mwamba sat close to me.

" what happened ?" I asked her looking around. Paula and Maya standing on the side.

"You collapsed and l asked Paula to bring you here , am sure the stories put a stress on your brain as you were trying so hard to remember things. How do you feel now ?" she asked me..

"Still feeling some headache" l answered. she handed me some pain killers and l took them.

"you have to get some rest " she said as she stood to go. Maya held my hand and smiled,

"get well soon Uncle Will."

"Thank you angel" l told her making her smile the more.

Paula turned to leave too but l called her back. "Mind if you stay back with me?" l asked her.

"No" she answered walking back.. "sit here" l told her patting the bed beside me.

"You scared me out there Ackim" she spoke after a moment

"Am sorry l didn't mean to, Its just that everything seems so awkward. My own life sounds like a story for someone else. I feel lost and it hurts sometimes, it's like am living in a strange land where everything and everyone is a stranger. Imagine I cannot even remember my mother. Poor her, she was so happy and yet sad. I couldn't even do a thing to help her fell better" I shook my head sadly.

She frowned

"stop talking like that Ackim you are not alone , there are people who love you and they would do eveything to make you feel okey. Just look at how Dr Mwaba and her family treat you like family , they adore you like you are part of their family and your mother too, she is so happy to see you with or without your memory."

"Sure" l responded

"it's hard to feel attached to her. Atleast i have grown fond of this family too. They are the only people who made me feel good about myself. You as well, thanks for everything" l added holding her hand.

She smiled warmly as she put her hand on mine.

"see we are all here for you."

I couldn't help but fall in love with her, she was so sweet and gentle. But then, l remembered she told me she was in love with another person and l withdrew my hand. I had to respect her and give her some distance. Her presence was making me loose my mind.

"Excuse me, l need to grab some sleep if you dont mind." l told her fearing l could take action in the wrong direction , her skin was calling out to me and with every minute that passed l felt my control running down. She smiled before leaving ,

"will check on you tomorrow then, Get well soon Ackim."

Blood Legacy - Episode 3

© Brian Ngoma

Everyone in Chisoti village knew how arrogant and stubborn Walutanga was but some people had never witnessed any of those traits till that day at the site. The workers heard indistinct voices coming from him and his the father the chief. Voices were slowly rising getting everyone's attention. The Chief was on top of his voice and so was Walutanga's.

The Chief saw that everyone was looking at them, he tried to calm the none stop talking Walutanga, "Okay let's talk about this at home."

"No father, we are going to talk about it here!" He yelled.

Everyone's heads turned in shock their mouths gaped. What sort of disrespectfulness were they witnessing, they all wondered.

"I won't tolerate this young man," The chief whispered trying to grab the boy's hand.

Ducking his father's hand, Walu said, "This school will be built. I have managed to bring it this far with no one's help but my friend's. Apparently, we are the only ones who think this village needs another school."

"Boy don't be stupid," Junior Chisoti showed up. "You think you've grown because you are hanging around an old man, No, you're still under our care and you have to follow rules; our rules."

Walutanga was tongue tied and felt a bit embarrassed. He wanted to say something when the two strangers got out of the Ford Ranger. He watched them walk to where they were. The other one had come out of the car with a Brief Case while the other kept pressing his phone and motioning to be searching for a signal. They reached where they were and looked around.

Ben looked at Devi who was busy with his phone and sighed followed by a nod. "Are we having problems chief?" He regarded the chief.

"Not at all," The Chief responded.

"Hey young boy," Ben looked at Walutanga and went on, "You must be the Chief's youngest son."

"And you must be the men trying to buy this land," Walutangu rudely looked at Ben.

"Trying?" He laughed. "Boy, this land is ours now," He looked at the chief, "Isn't it Chief?"

The chief hesitated, "In due time yes."

"This land is sacred. I guess the chief here didn't tell you," Walu pointed at his father.

"Walu!" Chovu Junior called him.

"What?"

"Shut your mouth, go home!" Junior added.

"I'm going no where, this is my school."

Ludo watched the doctor tend to Evan as she repeatedly checked her watch. She had been ignoring Lance's calls and was afraid to check a text he had sent. She convinced herself to just go there and plead with him, whatever was in the text, she decided not to check. She walked to where the doctor was and asked, "How's he?"

"He's stable, it was just some side effects of probably some drugs he took with what we induced on him, he'll be fine," The Doctor excused himself.

Why do you keep doing this to me Evan? She asked herself as she watched him. She felt like she was responsible for him in some way. She got her phone and called Joe her father, "Hey dad, are you home?"

"Yes Lu, what is it?"

"Do me a favor."

"Anything Doll."

"I want you to watch Evan for me."

Joe sighed, "He's back?"

"Yes, i know i promised i won't tolerate him ever again but he's in bad shape, i wouldn't have called and my boss is on my neck."

"Where are you?"

"At Levy Mwanawasa hospital."

"Okay I'm coming."

She impatiently waited for her father and ignored more calls from Lance. After an hour, Joe arrived at the hospital and told her to leave for work. She knew he wouldn't have a problem with Evan because that wasn't the first time he had helped her in the 'Evan Situation' as he had come to call it. She left the hospital and headed back to Lance & Associates. As soon as she arrived, she went straight to Lance's office and found him packing some documents in his small bag. She couldn't speak as she was panting.

Lance had come to know Ludo as a hardworking young lady whose only obstacle was a man. Looking at her, he said, "Have you brought my lunch?"

"Lunch?" She asked surprised.

"You didn't see the text?"

"Oh," She scratched her head nervously.

He nodded, "Let's get going, we'll grab lunch later, we have a case at the Local court."

Ludo quickly went back to her desk and grabbed her handbag as Lance passed her and walked outside. She was excited about the cases for it was the only thing that made her work interesting. Despite being a paralegal and watching the action from the chair, she knew she was learning so much and Lance was one tough of a lawyer. She felt honored and privileged to have been working for him..

They arrived at the local court and found a few people gathered. The judge was not yet in. Lance went over to the other desk where his opposition was. Having worked in the law for quiet some time, Lance was known by a lot of established lawyers; he regarded them as colleagues until the proceedings started.

"All rise," the Bailiff shouted.

Lance quickly went back to The Desk.

"Judge Wilson Ngosa presiding. Please be seated."

After comfortably settling down, Judge wilson spoke, "Good Afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Calling the case of the People of the city of Lusaka versus Victor Lweendo. Are both sides ready?"

"Ready for the People, Your Honor," The district Attorney said.

"Ready for the defense, Your Honor," Lance firmly said.

Ludo looked at him and admired his confidence. She wanted to be like him, but everything was blur in the moment. She had always dreamt of being a writer but here she was, in a court of law doing what she never thought she would ever do.

The court proceedings were done and the judge ruled in favour of Lance and his clients. They all got outside and Ludo stood by Lance's car while she watched him talk with his client who was fervently happy. She enjoyed this moment; a time when people would appreciate and be grateful for the work that the firm had rendered to them.

"Good job," Lance said approaching Ludo.

"That goes to you boss," she said sincerely.

"I always tell you one day you will make a good lawyer. You made my statements look like child play. How about we celebrate?" He opened the car doors.

Before Ludo could answer, her phone vibrated. It was a text from her father joe, saying Evan had ran away from the hospital. She sighed and felt sweat on her forehead. Her stomach slowly sunk and couldn't help it but feel dejected.

"Everything fine?" Lance noticed.

"It's home, i have to go. Can i be excused?" She wiped her forehead.

"Of course, go. We are done for the day anyway."

"Thank you," she quickly left.

Lance watched her disappear into thin air. He nodded getting into the car. As soon as he was comfortable, he got his phone and dialled.

"Hello my friend," a voice from the other side of the call answered.

"When are you coming?" Lance asked.

"I'm already in the city."

"Well,that's great."

"See you tomorrow."

*****

A thousand kilometers away from the city on a camp were some soldiers training so hard one could die from the training. They were in their last days of the training and it was one hell of the training. Every soldier was determined to get over with the training. They were given a ten minute recess and they scattered all over the place others sweating profusely, panting, drinking tap water and laying on their backs.

"I'm glad this is our final week," a male trainee soldier sounded excited.

"I'm glad too, i cannot wait to go home," a female trainee added.

"What's home?"

"Nothing," she answered thoughtful. "Perhaps some friends."

"You know you are the only woman left."

"Yes, i know because I'm the only one," she laughed.

"You don't talk much, what's your story?"

"My story?"

"Like why are you doing this? You could have done anything in the world but chose to come here. What's the story behind?"

She laughed, "Have you ever felt vulnerable in your life?"

"I guess i have."

"Have you ever watched someone you love being killed?"

"No."

"Well, i have. I watched my husband get murdered and i couldn't do anything. The world is wicked. It's full of blood. It showed me how vulnerable a woman could be. I vowed never to be like that anymore. I was vulnerable before but i will never be again."

"Sorry about your husband."

"It's okay, that was six years ago."

"You're Kate, right?"

"Kate Visashi, yes. I cannot wait to go back home," she smiled

The Bodyguard - Episode 27

By Tisa Phiri

Dr Mwaba and her husband gave me a sharp look and Maya ran out to Paula looking at me with anger.

"What ?" I asked

"did l say something bad ?" I asked shrugging.

" I mean she's been looking at me like am some sort of bad person and l couldn't take it any more." l spoke honestly.

"Well Will, you should have asked politely not the way you did" they told me. Dr Mwaba came closer to me..

"listen my dear. I understand you want to find yourself again but you cant just scream at a woman like that, you could have at least waited until we finished eating and then asked in a gentle way, plus you have to understand that lady didnt know you would be here. I invited her so that you can have an opportunity to ask her about yourself" she outlined gently.

I wiped my mouth , realising what l had just done ,

"you are right that didnt come out well, am sorry" l apologised.

" I just want to know who l'm" l sighed sadly.

"I understand my dear" Dr Mwaba told me..

"now do the right thing" she patted my back.

"Maya come over here!" she called her daughter as she and her husband walked out. Maya came to me and whispered ,

"go on uncle do like you always tell me to when l make a mistake" she eyed me and left to the other room.

I felt so ashamed, but l had to go out and face her. I cleared my throat as l stood behind her, she had her back on me as she looked at the garden.

"Am sorry, l behaved badly in there" l managed to say ,

"its just that l .."

"You lost your memory?" she turned and asked, cutting my statement short.

"Yeah" l nodded my hands in the pockets. she looked at my hands.

"well at least you have not forgotten the habit of putting your hands in the pockets especially when you are nervous" she told

me with a weak smile.

I looked at my hands ,

"oh that. At least am now aware about one thing about myself" l told her shly.

"I feel relaxed this way," l agreed standing next to her and looked at the gardens too.

"Am sorry l didnt know you lost your memory, Maya just told me and l didnt even realise that yesterday" she scoffed sadly.

"Its okey," l answered ,

"it's not your fault" l told her sitting on the garden chair near by.

"So you don't remember anything at all ?" She asked looking at me.. "No , nothing except that l woke up in the hospital three months ago and was just told that l was involved in an accident. I cant even remember my real name" l explained as she pulled a chair and sat next to me.

"Maya named me Will" l told her with a giggle ,

"according to her l have some features of Will Smith, the American actor"

She started laughing. I looked at her perfect white sharp teeth and felt relaxed , there was something about her that made me feel comfortable at the moment.

"Well that's a good one" she sighed rubbing her hand on the knee ,

" your name is Ackim" she told me after a couple of seconds of silence.

"I know who you are , l lived with you for some time. " she explained. "We were together when the accident happened but l was also out of conscious for a couple of days , so l dont really know what happened afterwards , only that you pushed me out of the car before it blew into flames. You saved my life life" she added.

"Wow ! that's something" l smiled. "Ackim. It sounds like my name for sure. So we were friends or colleagues or something ?" I asked her.

" Friends" she she told me looking straight at me ,

"good friends and you were working for me and my father too"

"What was it l did as my work ?"

"You were my bodyguard" she answered.

"Oh l see , am sure l enjoyed following you around" l teased her with a laugh.

"Yeah, something like that" she responded not really letting me on on my job thing.

"You were a soldier before so you did a good job" she assured me. she went on to tell me about me being in the army as a commando and that l was held captive in Congo. For hours she told me about lots of things about my job and why l was hired to protect her. she even told me l had a family but that l didn't get to find them after my return. she mentioned that she somehow managed to find them through someone l hired and that my mother was in the hospital.

All this while l listened like l was watching someone else`s life. It all didnt make sense but at least l was glad l knew who l was, though l couldn't remember.

By the time we finished talking it was almost 23 hours and Dr Mwaba insisted Paula spent a night at the house. she refused but we all insisted.

"You just told me someone is after your life so l also feel its safer you dont drive out alone in the night" l told her. she shook her head ,

"its alright people l'll be fine l promise. It's just that l have to see someone tomorrow morning and head back home before 7 am."

"Well then let me drive you to your hotel then l will get a cab back here" l stepped forward.

"Good idea Will " James responded ,

"at least she will be safe with you " he added..

They all said their good byes and l walked with Paula to the car. She looked at me and held my hand as she handed me the keys ,

"you were always a gentle man" she smiled

" Thank you."

"You are welcome" l smiled back at her. we drove to Protea Hotel as l asked her some questions about my mother.

"I appreciate your help to my family" l told her when l parked the car.

" If you can show me where she is l would love to see her as well" i added..

"Of course, shes dying to see you too" she smiled not getting out of the car.

" well then," l sighed handing her the key.

" will see you at the hospital tomorrow" l told her.

"Sure thing" she answered and l got out of the car and walked to open the door for her. she stepped out holding her dress, stepping on it and lost some balance but l was quick to hold her her up.

she stood so close to me and l felt my heart beating rapidly. she smiled as her scent clouded my mind making my legs go stiff. she moved her hand on my chest and whispered softly.

" I wish you could remember who l am Ackim." she sighed tears filling her eyes.

" I missed you" she added letting go of me and rushing to the entrance.

I watched her as she walked past the door and she looked back at me for some time before walking right in. something in me moved but l hard no idea what it was.

I crossed the road and booked a taxi home. My head was pounding seriously, I had taken in so much information for a day and l needed some serious sleep to accumulate it all.

Arriving at the hospital, Ludo called Melanie. She was fade up with this cycle. If it wasn't the prison, it was the street, now the hospital. She had promised herself not to involve herself in Evan's life but as it stood, she was still in it. She walked to the ward he was admitted and before entering, she took a long deep breath. It had been nine months since she last saw him. She found Melanie talking on the phone while Evan had his eyes closed. She knew he was pretending to be sleeping because he knew it was her. She closed the door behind her and waited on Melanie to finish talking on the phone while she looked at Evan contemptuously.

He had some stitches on his forehead, a black eye and a swollen lower lip. Whatever happened to the mighty Evan? She wondered before being interrupted by Melanie.

"You're here?'

" Yes," Ludo sighed putting her handbag on a table.

"Good, i have to leave. I left Zeus with the maid, she's new i don't trust her," Melanie stepped towards Ludo and patted her on the shoulder. "All the best. Keep me updated," looking at Evan.

Ludo looked at her wearily as if wanting to tell her not to leave but she knew her friend had done more than enough. Apparently, Melanie seemed to have it all figured out compared to her. If anyone was to ask her if this is how she planned her life to be, she would be offended. It started from an unaccomplished dream of becoming a writer which was shattered and thrown to the dogs after the ghastly experience with the Hamuumbu's. Despite trying so hard to ran away from that nightmare, she still had a part of that in the person she was staring at.

"I know you're awake Evan. Let's get this over with," She shook her head.

Evan opened his eyes ashamed of himself. Before Ludo came, he pleaded with Melanie not to call her but she refused knowing that only Ludo could come as quick as possible. She really tried to fix him. Last time she had found him in the streets of Lusaka and took him back home with her. She helped him back up but just when they had a breakthrough, he relapsed and ran away. It was so embarrassing seeing her in front of him with disappointed eyes.

"I told Melanie not to call you, i didn't want to be a bother," he said avoiding her stare.

Ludo sat down by the window and stared outside deep in thoughts. "Why do you do this to yourself Evan?"

He didn't answer but looked away.

"What happened to the Evan i met six years ago?"

"You wouldn't understand."

"Make me understand."

"You wouldn't!" He raised his tone still looking away. "I grew up with a silver spoon and i saw everything been taken away from me in a split second. Everything that my family worked so hard for was taken away, you wouldn't understand, you grew up poor. No offence."

She held back from cussing him. She knew he was feeling sorry for himself but she was tired of his behavior. He had been playing the sorry game ever since he lost his houses, cars and everything he ever cared for. She had tried to convince him that not all was lost but it was all in vain. He was as stubborn as a monkey.

"So we'll just continue playing the 'Feeling sorry for Thyself game' Evan?'

"Call it what you want Ludo," He coldly said.

They both went quiet for some minutes till Ludo's phone rang. It was Lance, her boss. She felt her heart beat and almost dropped the phone. She had forgotten that she left her office without saying anything. She excused herself from Evan and walked outside.

*****

As the Ford Ranger slowly drove into a part of land the school was being built in, the tired workmen couldn't resist but admire how immaculate the foreign car was. It raised eye brows from the village boys who kept nodding and wishing they could just step a foot in the beast or at least just touch it. The car parked at an open space and no one came out of it.

A moment later, the Chief's Corolla Altis drove by too but this one was known by everyone; they knew any minute from it being parked, the Chief would come out. As expected, the Chief and Junior stepped out of the car. Every person around showed their respect to them and wondered why they had come to the site.

Chief Chovu intently looked around and felt like a fool. The block was now in window level and he didn't know anything about it. He knew his son was a troublemaker but this, he thought as he walked to one of the workers.

"Where's Walutanga?"

"Inside," One of them pointed at the entrance.

The Chief looked back at his son and motioned him to call his brother. Junior quickly went into the unfinished building and found Walutanga complaining to the man he only knew as Hunter. He didn't know him at all but from what he heard, this man was close to his young brother. He didn't badge in but started eavesdropping.

"I'm telling you Hunter, this land has been sold," Walutanga touched his head and fidgeted . "I never thought my parents and brother were this money hungry. They don't even know who those people are or what they will do with the land. They have been blinded by the money. We have to do something Hunter."

Hunter wasn't responding but just looking at the boy.

"Say something, there's something we can do, right?"

"No," He finally answered. "You didn't tell your parents about this, did you?"

"That's not important now."

"It is important young boy, what did we say about lying to each other?'

Walu didn't respond.

"I thought we had a deal. We agreed that you would tell your parents about this and once we get the permission, we would start building. You told me they agreed."

"I'm an adult and a Prince," Walu stood his ground.

"You're 15. Count me out, I'm not doing anything about whatever is happening with this land."

"What?"

"I said there's nothing we can do about it."

Walutanga was puzzled. Ever since he had known Hunter and the stories he had been told by him, he expected a fight from Him.

"But…. But… but… " He Stammered, "We've worked so hard for this, you and I."

"I know."

"We should fight for this then, shouldn't we?"

Ignoring the question, Hunter looked past Walu and one could swear that he had eyes outside, "Your father is here," stepping back he went on, "Your brother is behind that wall."

Walutanga turned around and true, Junior emerged with an embarrassed and confused face. How had he known that he was behind the wall? He walked to them and told Walu to go outside while ignoring Hunter who also didn't pay attention to him. Walu walked outside leaving His brother with Hunter. Junior had never seen someone who had dark red eyes like the man standing before him. He grew nervous but kept his composure and looked around the room disgustingly.

"You better follow your brother," Hunter said.

Junior hesitated, "You took advantage of my brother."

"Did I?"

"We are not yet done," scrutinizing the room, he left.

Hunter huffed.

Lance stared at his phone and became more upset as Ludo was taking long to answer. She finally answered.

"Where are you!" He shouted.

"I had to go out boss," Ludo answered as calmly as possible upon hearing his angry voice.

"What do you mean go out?"

"An emergency boss."

"What emergency Ludo?"

"Something personal sir," She regretfully answered.

"Anything happening with you during work hours is my business young lady."

"I'm sorry sir."

"So it's that boyfriend of yours."

Ludo was astounded. As far as she knew, she kept her private life as private as possible especially from her boss. As it turned out, it wasn't so private after all.

"Yes I know about him," Lance added. "Do you know that he's dragging you down?"

She didn't answer.

"You are a young vibrant hard working lady who has a bright future but if not careful, will end up like that boyfriend of yours. I have tolerated this for so long and i won't let it happen anymore. Get yourself back here now."

"Sir!"

"I said get back here!"

"Okay sir," She hang up.

She stood in the hallway thinking about what Lance had said. It was true, Evan had become a distraction. Every time she made progress, he would show up and cause trouble. This had to stop, she told herself as she walked back into the room. She found his eyes closed again. She reached for her hand bag.

"I'm leaving, I'll call Melanie to come check up on you, i have work to do." She walked to the door and reached for the knob. One thing caught her attention, Evan didn't respond to what she said. "Evan!" She called him.

There was no response. She walked to his bed and shook him. He didn't respond. Looking at him closely, foam was coming out of his mouth.

"Shit, HELP!" She yelled.

The Bodyguard - Episode 26

By Tisa Phiri

Ackim.......

I was lost in my thoughts thinking about my life. Indeed the loss of my memory was affecting me , each day that past l would hope and wish l knew who l was. It wasn't easy living a blank life , did l even have Parents? or maybe friends ? I wondered. How was it that no one ever bothered to look for me at the hospitals or file in a missing person report?

I felt sad with the fact that maybe l wasn't such a good person in my previous life, maybe no wonder l had been having wired dreams about my past , l thought.

I had been in my room most of the day since l had an encounter with a coloured girl. Jane even apologised for making her leave though she insisted if she was that important to me the lady wouldn`t have left me..I hated the feel that Jane could be right , but then whatever the case, Anyone who showed signs of knowing me was actually important at that period of my life.

"Who am l ?" I whispered to myself, looking at the ceiling board as l lay back on my bed.

I heard a soft knock on my door and l responded after the second one..

"come in !"

James came in..

"Hey man , whats up ?"

"Hey " l answered sitting up ,

" you are back early?" l asked him as he sat next to me on the bed.

"Yes l was told we will have a visitor this evening so l had to rush back" he explained.

"who is that ? family ?" I asked not really interested in meeting any more strangers. As it was l was living with people l didn't even know and everyone else l had been seing in those months were strangers.

"I dont know really" he smiled.

"But l have been told to prepare myself , so l came to inform you to do the same."

"Prepare ? " I asked suprised.

" well it must be an important person indeed. so are we supposed to wear suits or something ?" I asked with a chuckle.

James started laughing softly,

"l hate suits" he said.

"Yeah l too, you have no idea" l answered as we laughed again.

"Guys come on its 18: 30 already , please get ready we dont want you looking like general workers in the mine this evening" we heard Dr Mwamba call out to us.

" Hurry dad and uncle !" Maya screamed excitedly as she passed holding a comb from the bathroom.

I wondered what was going on cause the women had prepared different dishes that evening but with the shouting l couldn't ask any further questions. All l was told is to dress moderately.

I took a quick shower and wore some soft jeans and a plain grey short sleeved shirt, its all l could think of besides the t-shirts..

I walked out with sandles and before l could go further Maya came screaming ,

"no no no! uncle no sandles please, put on your black shoes" she instructed seriously.

"You ought to look good" she smiled ,

" like the way Will Smith looked when going for a date in that movie Snitch" she told me grabbing my hand back to my room.

"Easy miss" l laughed as she pushed me back and opened my closet to get my shoes.

" There you go" she told me placing the shoes before me.

I shook my head and wore my socks as she ran outside.

" she's here!' she jumped when we heard the car hoot outside the gate.

"She`s here ?" I wondered shaking my head as l put on my shoes.

A couple of minutes later l walked out to join the family by the table and in the passage l saw Maya coming in , my heart skipped when l saw her holding a lady`s hand.

She stepped in and for a moment l was motionless , the lady from town in a long dress that outlined what l thought was the perfect shape, her hair pushed to one side making her look like she just came from one of the holly wood movies. I wasnt sure what puzzled and amused me the most, the fact that she looked like a goddess or that l had a chance to ask her about my life.

"What is he doing here ?" I heard her ask almost in a whisper. Maya shook my hand,

" uncle Will, meet my friend" she said smiling ,

"her name is Paula. Paula , this is my Uncle Will" she added looking at her.

" Oh l see, Will" she said casually. if l knew her l would say she was teasing me or something.

"Hey!" l finally said extending my hand to greet her.

"you are welcome Paula?" l said almost like asking if l said it right .

"It is" she smiled weakly as she shook my hand..

Maya cleared her throat and l let go of Paula`s hand. I had not realised l was still holding her soft hand.

"well people lets go have some dinner then we can all catch up later" she announced as she took Paula by hand. I tagged along in silence and l saw Paula look back at me the expression of her face l couldn't figure out , but whatever it was surely was against me.

We sat down to eat after Paula was introduced to all of us by Dr Mwaba. She told her about Mwamba who was out for some school tournaments, and all this while l watched in silence. Paula`s quick glances at me made me feel uncomfortable like l had done something wrong.

We had our dinner which l barely felt the taste cause I wasn't at ease , thankfully Dr Mwaba and Maya kept the conversations going asking Paula what she did and where she lived. She explained about her father and some mining business but my heart was longing for her to say something about me.

Without warning l spoke up ,

" so do you know who l a'm ?" I asked blankly and in a high tone.

"well, l cant help but feel you know me from somewhere and l want to know now. Why not get to it and tell me already" I shrugged with a face.

I saw Paula startle and swallowed hard.

"Am am am sorry , excuse me" she said standing up to leave the table after she was quite for some seconds, she ran out to the veranda at the back.

Dr Mwaba and her husband gave me a sharp look and Maya ran out to Paula looking at me with anger.

"What ?" I asked

"did l say something bad ?" I asked shrugging.

The Bodyguard - Episode 25

By Tisa Phiri

Paula.......

With tears in my eyes i drove away. I felt so much powerless, "how could he?" i thought, as i turned to park along the Dc offices a few meters away from the town center. I had gone to send some files to the office and i decided to use an internet cafe for sending large documents online.

Seeing him was surprising and at the same time exciting, however the moment was short lived when i realised he was with a woman.. "why is he doing this to me?" i cried bending my head on the steering. I could bet he was following me, otherwise there was no way he was going to save me from the guy that attacked me.

Everything wasnt making sense, "why did he pretend he didnt know who i was" i wondered, there was no making sense from the fact that he followed me when he had no idea who i was.

"what is happening my God?" i cried silently now i knew why he stayed away. He was with that woman i thought as i shed more tears.

"you should have just told me Ackim" i whispered to myself, "instead of making me go through all the trouble for you just to push me to the wall."

It was the second day in chingola since i came back from Kapiri. i even arranged to find a Doctor in Ndola for his mother. Though the man i talked to refered me to see someone in chingola after i asked for one near by.

" I need to be going to check on the patient , but i stay in Solwezi" i had told the Doctor, he recommended a Doctor from Nchanga Hosipital and gave me details.

Infact i was on my way to see this Doctor when i met Ackim, the pain of him pretending he didnt know who i was, was so dishearting but the fact that he had to show off with another woman in my face left me broken.

I felt a bit calm and wiped my face, "stay focused Paula" i sighed.

"you have to take it easy."

my phone rang and i lifted it from the seat i had thrown it on. It was Ackim`s mother, i sighed before answering..

"Yes mom!" i answered my voice steady i didnt want to give her the impression i was upset or that something was wrong..

"Hey my dear how are you today? " she greeted in a low voice.

"am okey mom, how are you feeling yourself.?" i asked back, I heard her sigh, her voice was too low i could sense she wasnt feeling alright.

"i feel bad my dear," she said almost in a whisper.

"i wanted to ask if the past days you have anything on my son" she added...

My eyes filled up with tears, thoughts of Ackim and another woman coming clearly to my mind. I sighed as i used the back of my hand to wipe the tears.

"Hello! are you there?" she asked, after some seconds..

"yes am here mom, am sorry. i think i saw him somewhere around but he disppeared before i could get to him" i lied, i didnt want to explain the details but i had to let her know her son was alive.

"Are you sure it was him Paula?" she asked her tone of voice sounding a bit relieved.. am certain mom, i know him.

"i promise to bring him over anytime soon, but for now i want to organise some Doctor here in Chingola for your operation" i told her..

"that is if you would want to come over here. i need to be close so i visit you regularly from Solwezi, you can come with Ackim`s sister for a while. I will see if i can arrange some accommodation here for the time you will be undergoing treatment."

"You are more than what i thought you are my child" she sighed,

"may God reward you for your kindness and for going through all this trouble for me as well as my son. Indeed my God in heaven will be the one to reward you. All this time in have been sick and none of my children have enough to help me get the much needed medication, so I really appreciate you for doing this for me" she added..

"Thank you" i finally said, after she finished her praises and blessings. i wasnt going to let her down just because her son dumped me. " i made a promise to help her and that i will fulfill" i whispered as i started the car. I had to go and meet the doctor.

I successfully made an appointment with the Doctor and Ackim`s mom would be admitted the following day the Doctor told me. I made some arrangement for her and her daughter to be picked. that same evening they arrived and i booked a lodge near the hospital for them. I noticed she had grown weaker than i last saw her, i tried to assure her about her son and she thanked me again.

Early the following morning i took her to the hospital. She was taken inside for some tests as i waited with Mary Ackim`s sister. she smiled as we sat down.

" what is it?" i asked her, she bow her head shyly.

" you are a wonderful person mam, who does this for people they barely know? thank you" she smiled at me holding my hand.

"Its okey Mary" i told her..

" its the least i can do, besides your brother saved my life more than once, and i feel obliged to help him back."

"whatever your reasons we really appreciate it mam" she said calmly.

" call me Paula," i told her holding back her hand.

After some minutes of waiting i received a call from dad and i walked outside the hospital to pick the call.

" excuse me" i told Mary as i walked out.

I told dad part of the details and shut him before he could talk me into going back home.

"I have a mission to pursue" i told myself as i hang up. I wasnt just going to give up hope after coming all the way. Ackim would have to face me, whether he likes it or not. All i needed to was find him.

As i turned to walk back in, a female Doctor walked towards me, "excuse me lady" she called me. "yes Doctor" i answered looking at her Id card. I thought she was one of the Doctor`s working on Ackim`s mother so i stood to listen to her.

"You might not remember me but we met at some restaurant close to 2 weeks ago" she explained. I looked at her but my mind was too occupied for me to remember.

"The girl Maya approached you.. " she started..

"Oh yeah!" i exclaimed remembering her face, she was the mother of the match making girl.

"yes... yes, i remember. how is that angel?" i asked smiling..

"she`s okey my dear as over zealous as ever."

" well shes a great person" i said with a laugh.

" Am Dr Mwamba by the way" she introduced herself extending her hand to greet me.

"am Paula" i responded shaking her hand.

She asked what i was doing at the hospital, and i told her i had taken a friend`s mother there. she insisted her Daughter was still looking for me and after we chatted for some more minutes she asked me to go have dinner at her house.

"Maybe next time Doctor" i told her.

" please i insist do it for my Daughter" she pleaded holding my hand.

"she really would love to see you again, she adores you"

"Okey fine, give me the address and i will try create time for her this evening." I gave up.

" that`s wonderful" she smiled handing me the address.

"see you this evening then Paula.. " she added as she walked towards the emergency room. I watched her in silence and shook my head.

"well i can use a break from all this craziness going on in my head" i whispered to myself as i walked to the waiting room to join Mary.

The tests where done and Ackim`s mom was admitted that very day. i drove Mary back to the Lodge after saying bye to her mother. I promised to pass by the following morning.

" i will have to leave for work tomorrow, but please call me for anything." I told the same to Mary and gave her some money for up keep.

After 18 30 hours, i prepared myself from Protea hotel where i was lodging. I did a little bit of make up, didnt really know what to expect but i had to look at least sane and neat. I wore a very long Pink dress that shaped me up to my hips and fall back to my feet leaving my toe nails exposed as i wore some black flat casual sandles.

placing a black bead bracelet around my neck, i liked the look, not so ordinary nor so showing off but on the point. I tied my hair to the side letting it drop on my right shoulder. I was good to go..

Few minutes later, i looked in the side mirrors as i drove past the streets, turning in the 7th street and drove to the house on the address. At my first hoot i saw Maya Jump up and down as she came to open the gate for me.

" Hey there!" she screamed coming to the car.

"Hey Maya!" i called out smiling.

"am so happy you came to our home!" she shouted jumping up and down as i drove in.

I hugged her and she held my hand as she led me inside.

" lets go meet others!" she informed me excited.

"yeah sure" i nodded holding my long dress up a bit as i followed her into the house.

Episode 50 contd

Two of the four men were already sprawling on the floor as they had gotten their backbones broken by Henry. The other two which were still up were having a tough time with Henry as none of their punches and kicks touched him.

A man as huge and tall as Henry was in front of him, his right hand was on Henry's shoulder weakly and he was bent inwards after suffering a jab in the belly from Henry. Henry dug another kick into his belly, disengaging him totally from himself and making him stagger to the ground. Henry turned quickly to the left to grab the second man's punch. He squeezed the fist in his and then twisted the whole arm. The man groaned out loud in pain. Henry pulled him closer and sent a punch into his belly, the man leapt unconsciously as the punch totally disorganized his internal organs and system. Henry pulled him closer again and grabbed him by the neck, he pulled him up and slammed against the huge partner who was already charging towards Henry again. He left both of them to fall to the ground and took a quick look at the right hand side to see how Samantha was doing.

He could see she wasn't finding it so easy to defeat the man, even though she was doing well enough being the first time fighting a FOX Agent.

_

Samantha felt an instant headache as her head was slammed against the wall again. The man was pressing her to the wall with his fist grabbing her neck. She felt so weak and tired but the will to remain alive and not disappoint the team kept her alive. It wasn't her first time of kicking men's butts, it was what she had grown up doing in the African slum where she lived years ago but this night was totally different. The men even though seemed not to have super strength had super skills enough to dodge her punches and swiftness to attack and hit her like she had never experienced with other men. Even though she had fought and defeated two of the FOX agents already that night, this particular one seemed stronger and more skillful.

As she fought, she remembered Henry had specifically mentioned again while they were in the police vehicle heading for the place that the men in Agent Elkim's house were majorly FOX men who were well trained even though they were juniors. Henry had told them it wasn't going to be easy but also reminded them of his two weeks training with them, saying he had thought them some personal secrets which a lot of FOX Agents and even the executives never knew. Henry maintained that the only advantage the junior FOX officials had over them were probably the consistent years of practice.

Samantha felt life oozing out of her already. She could sight Henry with the side of her eyes and was expecting him to come to her rescue when she saw him being attacked again by the men he was fighting.

She looked into the eyes of the man strangling her. He was standing in a slant form against her in a way that she could not reach him with her legs even if she tried to.

She grabbed him by the hand with her two hands, trying to take off his fist but he wouldn't let go. She struggled harder and left her mouth open as she could no longer breathe. With ever strength she could summon, she pushed herself forward and landed a heavy punch to the man's left eye.

He left out an uncomfortable groan and his grip on her neck softened for some seconds and she was able to take in a breath. He tried to fasten it harder again but she had gotten on her feet well and was able to raise her right foot to kick him on the chest. He staggered a feet backwards while she dropped to the ground on her butt and managed to drag in some more breaths hastily.

Before she could raise up her head or look up again, he had charged towards her and dragged her up by the neck. He sent in two punches into her belly and was about to land another on her face when a hard blow hit him in his left ribs. He felt the bones shift and he let out a loud groan as he fell sideways. Henry followed up and picked him up quickly, he rammed his back to the wall and let him drop to the floor again. He dragged him up quickly again and rushed him blows in the belly and his chest. Then he grabbed him by the neck, lifted him up, turned swiftly and slammed him to the ground.

He picked him up again and turned with him to the wall, he held his neck and twisted it. He left the unconscious body to drop on the floor and then dusted his palms. He noticed something in the pocket of the man's shirt, he bent to pick it. It was an ID card, he scanned through it for a second and tossed it away.

He turned slowly to look at Samantha and smiled. He knew she was a good fighter, but one with lack of professional experience and one whose punches and kicks had little weight. Right from the fight on the basketball pitch where he selected Samantha, he had noticed that her punches had less weight and had greater impact only when it met sensitive parts of the body. She was good at targeting and hitting those sensitive parts but today, she had met a FOX Agent who was strong and also good at protecting the sensitive parts, her blows and kicks which met him made very little impact, compared to the heavy one Henry had sent to the man's ribs.

"You did well," Henry squatted, looking straight into her eyes. "He was a senior agent, of the same rank as Tam."

Samantha stared into his eyes briefly and looked away again, still panting heavily and yet to recover from the pains inflicted on her.

"Take out the glucose in your pouch and make use of it," Henry said as he rose to his feet. He turned his neck and stared intently at the exit of the hallway which was his next direction."Fill up your guns quickly and stay here for five minutes to recover before you join me," Henry added before he turned and began to walk towards the exit. He took out his guns and extra bullets from the waist purse as he walked.

__

Elkim's daughter stared at her father's face as he opened the part in the ceiling for her to get in. He had placed a chair under the place for her to step upon.

Both of them were inside the bathroom in his room and close to the spot the water bulb hung from the ceiling was the secret opening. Elkim had pressed a switch hidden behind the water bath before the ceiling opened.

"Get up and climb into the place girl," Elkim said with an encouraging look on his face. She glanced at the space in the ceiling and then at his face again.

Reluctantly, she climbed on the chair and jumped to get a hold of the visible roof struts. She had some difficulty climbing up but Elkim got up the chair and helped her get into the room. He handed her two devices after she was in already.

"Keep following the red track there like I told you already, it will lead you to the spot the water tanks are. You hide there behind the tanks and tap the red button on that device, make sure you wait after you touch the button, men of the FOX would be there in no minute to help you. Is that clear?"

"Yes," the young woman nodded in the ceiling where she was.

"Make sure you wait behind the tanks, don't take the ladder down until you see me or any of the FOX men, is that clear?" Elkim warned again.

She nodded in response.

He let out a breath. "Now, go baby. Leave now," he said and then climbed down the chair. He moved the chair away from the spot and quickly walked to the bathtub to tap the switch behind it. The space created in the roof closed back. He waited for a minute, considering how he could have tried to escape with his daughter but he knew that if the huge man was Agent Carl like he suspected, their escape route was bound to be found and followed after. The only way he could delay their reach to his daughter was waiting behind to engage whoever it was in a war.

He picked his gun where he dropped it and walked back into his room. He rushed to the laptop on the table and began to try locate where the intruders were. Before he could locate, he heard a alarm sound and he could tell that it was from his inner control room where he had left the control operator, it meant the intruders had gotten there already. He stopped and turned towards the door with his gun.
