Romance / She Said I'm Selfish After She Had 5 Abortions by ozeman(m): 2:48am On May 02, 2017
I have always followed posts of people seeking advice on their relationships, and I must commend we have intelligent people who give intelligent advices on this platform. I seriously need advice on what to do,
I'm in a serious relationship with a lady, I do love and cherish her. We have actually been dating for about 6months now and we are not scared of committing further in the relationship. She's presently not in Nigeria, so in our course of chatting recently, she revealed she has actually had more than 5 abortions with other guys before she met me.
The issues now are I told her it will be hard for me to even thinking of settling down with such a lady. She said I don't love her blah blah blah.
My concerns now are :
1= After 5 abortions, are her chances of getting a child not sketchy
2= Am I being selfish for telling her my worries.

Nairaland / General / Behaviors To Avoid When Travelling To Northern Nigeria by ozeman(m): 9:02am On Feb 17, 2017
Nigeria is like an umbrella sheltering different cultures, religions, traditions, and values. This is why there is a cultural difference between Southern and Northern Nigeria.
What is acceptable in the South may be outrightly offensive North. You can describe it as a liberal south and conservative north. Hence, when you are junketing especially around Northern Nigeria, you should be very conscious of what you do because it may unpleasant to the people.
Jumia Travel, the online booking agency identify some of these behaviours. You should not ignore these tips if you find yourself in the North to prevent any unpalatable backlashes.

1=Public display of affection
Cuddling, holding hands and other forms public display of affection is nauseating to many in the North. If you are so bent on showing off your romantic prowess, you should wait till you return to the hotel you booked in Kano or Kaduna on Jumia Travel.

2=Engage in religious disagreement
Religion is a sensitive issue in some parts of Northern Nigeria. So, if you are a Muslim. Christian or traditionalist from any other parts of Nigeria or a tourist, you should sidestep any religious discussion or argument. It is better you just enjoy your stay at the Kajuru Castle in Kaduna and keep your religious convictions to yourself.

3=Not covering your hair
As a lady traveling to the North, you already have a dress code. It doesn’t mean you adopt that type of dressing. But the least you can do is to never to leave your hair open. Always cover it even if you don’t like it. And, don’t display sensitive features of your body.

4=Mingling with women
Culturally and religiously, men are not allowed to mingle with women in Northern Nigeria. So, as a man, you should not be found amidst women no matter how essential your message or encounter may be.

5=Eating publicly during fasting
You will observe that many of these behaviours or actions are hinged on religion. This is because Islam is the major religion in the North and things they do are dictated by Islam. So, if you are a non-believer in Islam, you should not eat in public especially during fasting. Try as much as possible to eat your food in your room.

Nairaland / General / Can You Spot The Assassin In This Picture by ozeman(m): 2:59pm On Jan 25, 2017
It seems that every new optical illusion that crops up online claims to be trickier than the last.

But apparently only a tiny one per cent of the population will be able to spot the hidden assassin in this vintage illustration.

This image, posted to Playbuzz, features a man drawing a gun as he prepares to engage in a duel, while a group of bystanders look on - but where is his adversary?
The opponent will soon need to reveal himself so that the action can begin, but for the time being he remains invisible.

It's even more difficult to see him blending into the background because of the black and sepia toned image.

Nairaland / General / Human Heartbeats To Be Used As Phone Password by ozeman(m): 1:12pm On Jan 21, 2017
More than 27 million electronic healthcare records were compromised last year.
Now, researchers believe they have found a more efficient method that ensures these credentials stay protected – the patient's own heartbeat.
The team encrypted patient data using the person's unique as the key to lock and unlock the fi electrocardiographes.
FACTS ABOUT ECG
An ECG, or electrocardiograph, records the electrical activity of the heart.
It can reveal any problems with the heart's rhythm or beat.

Though it does not provide a complete picture of the heart's condition, an ECG offers background information on various types of heart disease.

It can provide clues in cases of:

• Chest pain, fainting, difficulty in breathing or palpitations

• Narrowing of the arteries. This is done with an ECG before and after exercise (an exercise stress test)

• Measuring a person's risk of heart attack.

• Monitoring the effectiveness of any coronary drugs.

• A slow or fast heart beat.

The test is painless and takes about a minute.

Up to 12 electrodes are attached to arms, legs and chest. Electrical activity is measured and appears on a paper printout.
The new method was devised by researchers at Binghamton University, State University of New York.

'The cost and complexity of traditional encryption solutions prevent them being directly applied to telemedicine or mobile healthcare,' said Zhanpeng Jin, assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science at Binghamton University.

'Those systems are gradually replacing clinic-centered healthcare, and we wanted to find a unique solution to protect sensitive personal health data with something simple, available and cost-effective.'

Currently, the only methods to keep hackers from getting a hold of electronic health records are cryptography or encryption, but both can be expensive, time-consuming and computing intense.

But Jin and his colleagues were able to encrypt a person's health data using their on electrocardiograph (ECG)--a measurement of the electrical activity of the heart measured by a biosensor attached to the skin and transforming it into a key for the files.

'The ECG signal is one of the most important and common physiological parameters collected and analyzed to understand a patient's' health,' said Jin.

'While ECG signals are collected for clinical diagnosis and transmitted through networks to electronic health records, we strategically reused the ECG signals for the data encryption

Health / Read This Before You Use That Toothbrush by ozeman(m): 12:52pm On Jan 21, 2017
Think twice before using your toothbrush... it's covered in millions of different germs - including FAECES

Dr Rhona Eskander has warned of the germs toothbrushes carryShe says there are numerous dangers to your health by not keeping them cleanResearch has found that they can contain herpes and other dangerous germs

Buy a new toothbrush. Right now.

Your current one probably contains faeces, herpes or even the virus responsible for hepatitis.

Within just two days, toothbrushes can become heavily infected with disease-causing bacteria, viruses and fungi.

And it doesn't matter whether you keep it in your bathroom or under 24-hour surveillance - it's contaminated, a leading expert has warned.
It doesn't matter whether you keep it in your bathroom or under 24-hour surveillance - it's contaminated, a dentist has warned

Dr Rhona Eskander, a dentist based in Kensington and Chelsea, says there are numerous dangers to your health by not keeping it clean.

And sharing brushes or letting them touch other ones is just as bad for you, according to London's Young Dentist of the Year 2016.

She told MailOnline: 'The mouth harbours literally hundreds of different types of microorganisms, some of which can be transferred to a toothbrush during use.
'Microorganisms in the bathroom or household environment may also collect on a stored toothbrush – especially after the toilet has been flushed.'

'When toothbrushes are stored in close together and touching in a tooth mug, the germs can pass from one to another, leading to the risk of cross contamination.

'Rinsing a toothbrush under running water from the tap does not remove all these germs.
Within just two days, toothbrushes can become heavily infected with disease-causing bacteria, viruses and fungi (stock)

'If you borrow a toothbrush which has been used by someone else the viruses which cause conditions such as herpes and hepatitis A, B and C can be transferred to you, as studies have shown that they can survive for months on a toothbrush.'

Toothbrushes are a known source of contamination.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

TV dentist Dr Mervyn Druian - recommends the following:

1. Don’t flush where you brush

If you must store your toothbrush near your toilet make sure you close the lid when you flush to minimise the dispersal of contaminated water droplets, and encourage your family to do the same.

2. Store it upright and alone

Store your toothbrush in an upright position – never in a bathroom cabinet where air cannot circulate as this could promote bacterial growth. Try and avoid putting more than one brush in a tooth mug to avoid cross contamination.

3. Replace your toothbrush regularly

Make sure you replace your toothbrush and Steripod every 3 months – buy them at the same time. And if you’ve been suffering with a cold or flu it’s a good idea to replace your toothbrush.

4. Don’t share it

This should go without saying, but never be tempted to share a toothbrush, even with your loved ones.

Since the 1920s scientists suspected that the re-use of toothbrushes could be a possible source of infection in the oral cavity.

While nearly 40 years ago, a study published in the Scandinavian Journal of Dental Research discovered they also often contain Streptococcus mutans.

This bacteria is known to build-up in the mouth, being a leading cause of tooth decay and the breakdown of enamel - the thin protective covering.

The same scientists also argued that using the same toothbrush helped to kill off healthy germs found within the mouth.

Instead they can introduce more dangerous ones to the mouth, including enteric bacteria and pseudomonads.

These can lead to diarrhoea, skin rashes and ear infections, among other things, according to medical literature.

And in 2015, researchers from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut found that 60 per cent of toothbrushes are covered in faeces.

But they also discovered that there's only a 20 per cent chance of it being your own - instead it's more than likely to be your husband's, wife's, or whoever your share your house with.

Another study led by Professor Richard Glass in 1988 found that the Herpes virus can remain viable on a dried toothbrush for at least 48 hours.

While in a moist environment, such as that of a bathroom, it can survive for longer than a week, according to the University of Arizona scientist.

Nairaland / General / Okada Riders Clash With Soldiers Turns Bloody. by ozeman(m): 10:42am On Jan 21, 2017
Motorists and other road users along popular Nyanya- Keffi expressway suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja were yesterday thrown into panic and were forced to run for their lives as hundreds of commercial motorcyclists known as Okada blocked the road protesting against extortion by soldiers posted to the area. The soldiers have been there since 2014 following two bomb explosions by Boko Haram in Nyanya, the sight light town of Abuja.
The Friday protest which saw the Okada riders burning tyres and logs of wood was due to the demands of the soldiers of “N500 from the
Okada operators,’’ which Vanguard learnt they refused to pay. Some of the motorcyclists who spoke to Vanguard at the scene of the incident claimed that the harassment by the military men deployed to the area was becoming unbearable.
According to them , the issue has become a daily affair stressing that “how much are we making a day that we should be parting with N500 every day. we are tired, we are therefore calling on the authorities concerned to come to our aid by putting the officers on check in the area”.
It would be recalled that it took police men deployed to the violent prone area more than two hours to disperse the crowd. Attempt to get the military authorities to comment on the issue was unsuccessful.

Nairaland / General / Indian Barber Cuts Men’s Hair… By Setting It On FIRE by ozeman(m): 10:47pm On Jan 16, 2017
This Indian barber has found an innovative way of cutting men's hair... by setting it on fire.

Footage from inside his salon shows the maverick barber pouring a flammable powder and liquid over his customer's head before holding a lighter up against his locks, which promptly catch alight.

While the customer's head is still ablaze, the barber then takes two combs, which he used to cut and style the hair into shape, while the flames continue to burn.
Once the flames have burned out, the barber continues with the haircut as a crowd of men stand and watch him perform his unusual technique.

After combing through his client's hair, the barber shakes on more of the powder onto his head, and once again sets his barnet alight.

Apparently unperturbed by the heat from the flames, the hairdresser combs through his clients locks, while parts of his hair fall away.

The savvy stylist continues working with his combs until he is satisfied with his client's new look.

The barber is not the first in India to come up with such a radical way of cutting punters' hair.

In Gulbarga's Shahabad village, Dasharath of Raj Men's Parlour uses candles for haircuts.

He has been burning clients' hair with candles for the past six years six years, after he stumbled upon the unusual style of cutting when the electricity one day went off in his salon and he thought of using candle flames to cut hair.

Sports / Man United May Park The Bus- Says Klopp by ozeman(m): 1:12pm On Jan 15, 2017
Jurgen Klopp has admitted it's impossible to second-guess 'real competitor' Jose Mourinho and he may have to change Liverpool's tactics during the game at Old Trafford because he doesn't know if the Manchester United manager will go gung-ho or park the bus as he did at Anfield.

Mourinho was criticised for betraying United's traditions at Anfield in October when he set out his stall to gain a goalless draw, which is what transpired.

The expectation is that United will be more adventurous this afternoon as they are on a nine-match winning run while Liverpool haven't won in three attempts in 2017.
But Klopp is wary, and wouldn’t put it past his rival to surrender the territorial advantage to Liverpool again even though United have home advantage this time.

In an interesting insight into the mind games that go on between two managers at the highest level, Klopp said: ‘At home to United, we had to make the game even with the quality of players. We had to be dominant and they could defend and jump in between.
We can try the same if we need to on Sunday but if it’s different, we are ready. I have no idea whatever we have to do there, actually. We will be ready for all.
It could be that United will not be as organised as they were at Anfield but I am not sure it is likely.

‘You can imagine a little bit how they will play but at the end it is always a little bit of an open question. How can you say 100 percent what they will do? I am not part of the meetings.

‘Maybe they have a different plan. Jose is a real competitor so if he thinks defending deep makes sense, I would not be too surprised.

‘My coaches and I have played Jose a few times and he is competitive, very very, but we are also.

Nairaland / General / Nothing Will Stop Me From Looking Like A Ken Doll' Vows Surgery Freak by ozeman(m): 10:37pm On Jan 14, 2017
A self-proclaimed 'living Ken doll' says nothing will stop him from achieving his dream of looking completely fake - not even health warnings from doctors.

Canadian Jonny Dylan, who was raised in Hong Kong, has regular Botox injections and fillers and admits to spending almost $10,000 (£8,185) a year on maintaining his striking plastic look.

The 27-year-old from Vancouver has even said he wants 'much bigger' lips and a nose job, despite warnings from medical professionals who say he could be risking his health.

He said: 'Nothing will stop me from getting to my goal of looking like a Ken doll - I would do anything to get there.'

The cosmetics-fan regularly slathers himself in fake tan, always has perfectly manicured nails and contoured make up and uses colour-changing contact lenses.

I started getting fillers about two years ago and definitely now I am really known for my big lips,' he said.

'I'm still not happy with the size though, I want them to be much bigger.

HOW HE SPENDS HIS CASH...

Botox injections

Fillers

Fake tan

Manicured nails

Contoured make up

Eye-colour changing contact lenses

Beauty treatments

'I was refused fillers recently because the doctor thought my lips were already really big and that it would be dangerous to get more filler.

'But I have seen people with bigger lips than mine so I knew I would find someone else to do it and I did.

'I got the filler but still not the amount that I want'

Merchandiser Jonny explained: 'When I was five years old, I got my first Ken doll.

'It was a Malibu Ken,' said Jonny.

'He had blonde highlights, blue eyes, and dark eyelashes.

'He was tan with good bone structure.

'I look up to him and I would never discourage him from getting surgeries or procedures to look like a Ken doll. I think that he should go for whatever makes him happy.'

And Jonny is comfortable with the reactions he gets from the public. He said: 'I do get a lot of reactions to my look but usually people love it.

'People come up to me in the street and tell me I'm gorgeous and that I look fabulous.

'There are definitely haters out there that just don't get it but I really don't care what they think.'

Nairaland / General / Man Is Forced To Pay Child Support For Bastard Child by ozeman(m): 10:23pm On Jan 14, 2017
An Oklahoma man is being forced to pay child support for another man's child because he ordered a paternity test too late.

Thomas, who did not give his last name, asked for a paternity test for his three year old son when his marriage fell apart.

He and his ex wife married after she got pregnant in high school. Thomas said at the time he had no reason to assume the baby was not his.
When the couple's marriage fell apart around the time the baby turned three, something led Thomas to ask for a paternity test.

He took the test twice and both showed he was absolutely not the father. But it did not matter because in Oklahoma a man has to question paternity within two years. Legally, the non-biological child he was raising was his.

Thomas said: 'I wish I was telling a lie. I wish it wasn’t the truth but it is.'

'That’s what makes it so crazy. Everyone I talk to about this can’t believe where the court system is coming from.'

News On 6 reports a judge initially ruled in favor of Thomas. But after revisiting the law, the judge ordered the duped dad to pay $500 per month in child support plus $15,000 in back support plus interest.

While Thomas is working to change the law, he accepts his fate.

However, he thinks DNA should be a determining factor for whether or not a man must pay child support rather than the child's age.

He told the station: 'At this point, there's really nothing I can do to get out of the $15,000 or get out of the child support, it's done, it's the law.'

According to the Oklahoma law, the child's mother and biological father could decide to let Thomas off the hook. But without their approval Thomas will be liable for child support for the next 15 years.
