HenryWilliams:
See

We had those barriers at the Tejuosho and Oyingbo crossings back then in Ebute Metta. There was a shrill alarm whenever a train approaches and the gates would automatically close and open when the trains passes. It was fun watching them work.
Sadly Nigerian Factor entered everything. Zero maintenance. From automated train barriers, NRC employed old men with red flags to man the crossings. That helped a bit until they sacked the old men and left the crossings unmanned. Since then, there's been a spike in train-vehicle incidents and accidents.
And people are blaming drivers for the incessant train-vehicle collision.
What happened to all this safety measures you mentioned?
If that was done as far back as the time you mentioned, then why can't they government of nowadays do it?
Are we growing backwards as a country?
What if some drivers are new there, will they know that the route they are about passing by has a rail intersection without any safety signage?
Few years ago,we attended a conference there in Lagos. Then during each day break time,we will be driving around with some colleagues for some site seeing.
We pass through a lot places until we reach ,I think Iju/Ishaga area or something like that.
We waited at some point there to get something.
Suddenly, people were shouting on us to move immediately that that is rail track crossing the road.
I was like uwohh,a place so unkempt with rusted pieces of irons with almost sand covering it is a rail track in naija!
We ran and pass there and behold train later passed by the place.
So this safety measures you talked about is very very necessary.

Politics › Re: Nigeria Crude Oil Struggles To Find Buyers As 20 Million Barrels Remain Unsold by Pacesetter123(m): 9:14am On Dec 20, 2025
When I said it here in 2022 that you can't sanction a world power like Russia without having a spilled over effect all over the world, some emergency international affairs analysts here in Nairaland were like; who is Russia? Their economy will crumble within one month and they will not have money to prosecute the war again. In fact, their citizens will be begging crumbs of food from the west to feed themselves and all bla bla bla.
If the West/NATO didn't sanctions Russia in 2022:

1.Russia would have still worked hand in hand with the OPEC for crude oil price regulation.

2.Russia would have still maintained their supply limit and abide by the world pricing standard

3.And some other major producers like Nigeria would have benefited from the price boom.

But now the western sanctions on Russia has caused;
1.Russia to supply unlimited and unregulated quota to the crude oil market.

2.Selling at a more cheaper price to some powerful countries that were hitherto perennial customers to Nigeria thereby making them to abandon Nigeria crude.

3.This powerful countries like India, China and Saudi cannot also be sanctioned by the West for buying from a sanctioned Russia.

4.Dangote Refinery being a Nigeria company cannot buy this cheap crude directly from Russia cos the western big hammer will fall on Nigeria state for violating the sanctions on Russia seeing that we are not on the same league of nation with the likes of China and India in the scheme of things in the world.

5.Dangote now buys the re-sell from India and also US oil at OPEC price which will affect our finished product price here locally.

So the western sanctions on Russia is rather affecting the economy of the 3rd world countries that depend on oil exportation like Nigeria the more like it's affecting Russia.

Politics › Re: State Of Emergency: PDP reacts to Supreme Court's judgement on Rivers by Pacesetter123(m): 11:27am On Dec 16, 2025
All this twisting of court judgement by analysts should be discouraged.
The supreme Court judgment of yesterday didn't affirm nor condemn the president's action of suspending the elected officials in Rivers state during his emergency proclamation there.
The justices only struck out the case based on technicality.
They said the 10 PDP governors lack the jurisdiction to institute the case cos the action didn't affect them. That for them to have had jurisdiction, they should have obtained authorization from the affected state,Rivers state.
So,that was the cruz of the judgement which can be quoted subsequently as judicial precedence.
Every other thing they said was a mere comment or their personal opinions on the matter which the law permits them to do so but it is not part of the main judgement.

Their comments was just to educate or to let Nigeria/Nigerians know that if they don't like the suspension of elected officials during emergency declaration by any president, the parliament should amend the section 305 to clearly define the term "extraordinary measures" as it is used in that section of the constitution.
That otherwise, the president(s) will still continue to be at liberty to apply his own discretion in implementing that phrase --extraordinary measures and that there is nothing the court can do if that happens.

That that is why they can't and shouldn't even fight the terrorist.

The deployment was directed by ECOWAS Security and Mediation Commission. What is both ECOWAS or Nigeria Foreign Affairs Minister doing to secure their release within 48 hours.
We are beginning to loose respect we once commanded in the subregion and amongst fellow African countries.
But foreign affairs ministry was telling us a different thing entirely from what you are saying now.
They said the flight was going to Portugal with military men inside. Then it suddenly developed technical problem and landed on emergency ground.
That they soldiers were well taken care of by Traore led government and that the technical problem has been fixed and the crew was already on their way to Portugal .

But look at what is playing out now.
And what you are saying now seems to me to be the true situation of things than what the ministry was telling us last week.

Politics › Re: Lt. Gen. Attahiru Was Assassinated In May 2021 Plane Explosion - Ali-Keffi by Pacesetter123(m): 1:36pm On Dec 11, 2025
DomPerignon:
It wasn't an assassination but an air accident due to very bad weather, an inexperienced and young crew who had to divert to the civilian air strip in Kaduna from their intended NAF air field.

On getting to Kaduna, bad weather forced the crew to attempt a landing in the neighbouring Kaduna civilian airport.

The ATC in Kaduna had closed as the airport was operating only daylight due to terrorist attack that occurred a few months prior.

There was no ATC clearance as ATC had shut down by 6pm and there was no communication with the crew and ATC to ascertain the wind field on landing.

The crew landed in a cross wind field which flipped one of the wings of the aircraft and had it flip and crash on the tarmac.

The aircraft had departed Abuja with a full tank of fuel and was meant to convey the COAS to Kano the next morning for an occasion there and return him back to Abuja.

The cause of that crash were bad weather and an inexperienced crew.

The COAS was shelduled to have taken off to Kaduna earlier on that same day but due to his tight schedule ,the flight was postponed later in the evening.

Its not known if the crew were briefed adequately on the rapidly detiorating weather at their destination or if they (young officers in their early 30s) were afraid to tell the COAS of the need to delay or cancel the flight.

There were no traces of any explosive material on the wreckage.
In what capacity are you making this statements?
As DG of NCAA?
As Director of AIB?
As medical Director in the military Reference hospital that examined the victim bodies?
Or as one of the insiders in the military hierarchy as at the time?

I don't know why some people like to propagate falsehood about their nation.
It is always good to keep mute on matters you don't have credible information about.

The Guardian reported this release of both crew and aircraft since yesterday.
The plane was said to have developed technical issues enroute Portugal and decided to have an emergency landing at the nearest airport in accordance with international aviation protocol, which was Burkina Faso.

So, what is the fuss about the propagation of falsehood about your own nation?

Haters who wishes to be unfortunate this Yuletide season should quote me at their own peril.

Burkina Faso releases 11 Nigerian troops after ‘unauthorised’ plane landing https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/dec/10/burkina-faso-releases-nigerian-troops-unauthorised-emergency-landing?CMP=share_btn_url
The Guardian reported the release of the aircraft and crew since yesterday and today, the Vanguard reported that the crew and plane are still being held captive.
You have the right to believe in Guardian news paper and others too have the right to believe in Vanguard news paper.
Both of them are seen to be reputable Nigeria National Dailies.
Or are you saying that Guardian is now more credible than Vanguard?
