Match Preview Harry Kane hopes Diego Costa's suspension can give Tottenham Hotspur an edge over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Costa picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign at Sunderland and will miss the match, with Loic Remy or Didier Drogba likely to come in. The Spain international has 11 goals in as many top-flight matches this term but Kane is hopeful a resurgent Spurs side can make the most of his absence and record a fourth consecutive win in all competitions. BPL successes over Hull City and Everton have elevated Mauricio Pochettino's men into seventh place despite an inconsistent start to the season and Kane, who has also become a more prominent figure at White Hart Lane this term, hopes Costa's absence can give his team-mates an extra boost. "We're full of confidence. Obviously we are coming off three wins in a row now in all competitions, so we'll take that confidence into the game on Wednesday," he said. "We're looking to get the result. Chelsea are going to be trying to do the same at home, but they are missing their main man up front. So they have to change a few things, and we're feeling good. "The Chelsea game is not the be-all or end-all, but it would add to the great momentum we have at the moment if we could beat them." Saturday's draw at the Stadium of Light was only the third time Chelsea have failed to win in the league this season and they have a six-point cushion over Manchester City going into the midweek fixtures. Jose Mourinho's title-chasers have not conceded in three consecutive outings and boast an impressive record in home games against Spurs. Tottenham Hotspur have yet to record a BPL win at Stamford Bridge, last beating Chelsea away from home in February 1990. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will likely play a key role in maintaining that record for Chelsea and the Belgian feels Wednesday's clash is the start of a significant period. "It's an important week with two difficult games," he told Chelsea's official website. "First a derby against Tottenham in front of our own fans and then we go away to Newcastle, which will be tough. It's an important month and we will try to win as many games as we can." Mourinho has no fresh injury worries although Kyle Walker (groin) remains some way off a return for Pochettino. http://m.premierleague.com/en-gb/matches/2014-2015/epl.summary.html/chelsea-vs-spurs |

Match Preview Adam Johnson wants Sunderland to keep up their fine record against the Barclays Premier League's big hitters when Chelsea visit the Stadium of Light on Saturday evening. Jose Mourinho's league leaders boast an imposing record of 10 wins from 12 unbeaten league matches this season as they prepare to face a team that dealt a body blow to their title aspirations last term. Fighting a seemingly improbable yet ultimately successful battle against relegation, Sunderland came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge in April and end Mourinho's remarkable record of 77 BPL home matches without defeat across his two spells in west London. Champions Manchester City follow Chelsea to the north east having lost 1-0 on each of their previous four visits to Sunderland and Johnson is relishing an electric atmosphere under the floodlights on Wearside over the coming week. "Evening winter matches in the Premier League are always special," he told Sunderland's website. "There is always a little extra in them and it is great to play at night at the Stadium of Light, especially against the teams at the top of the league. "It's going to be a difficult game against Chelsea but we've been strong and we have always done well against the big teams, so hopefully that will continue. We got massive wins against the top teams last season when we needed them, so if we can carry that momentum and pick up points it would be great for us." Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet could be boosted by the return of Ricky Alvarez and Sebastian Coates as they continue to build their fitness following respective knee and thigh injuries. Coates was named in the squad for last weekend's goalless draw at Leicester City and Poyet concedes it has been a frustrating time for the South American duo since moving to Sunderland during the close season. "Ricky trained on Tuesday, which is great for us, and he is desperate to play because that type of player cannot see himself outside, so he suffers when he cannot train and sees the team playing," added the former Chelsea player. "It has been terrible for Sebastian because he has come into a new club as a Uruguayan with a Uruguayan manager, so there is always a kind of double responsibility." Chelsea took their imperious form to the continent on Wednesday night, beating Schalke 5-0 in the UEFA Champions League. Top scorer Diego Costa took a knock to the leg and was substituted after 66 minutes in Gelsenkirchen but is expected to face Sunderland. Midfielder Cesc Fabregas has matched Costa's impact at Stamford Bridge since the pair's high-profile moves from La Liga and the ex-Arsenal and Barcelona man believes the variety and quality in Chelsea's play at the moment is central to their success. "The most important thing is we know what we are doing - when we can defend, when we have to attack, when we have to slow the pace and go quicker. Right now we are doing that very well," Fabregas told the Chelsea website. http://m.premierleague.com/en-gb/matches/2014-2015/epl.summary.html/sunderland-vs-chelsea |
