Tips 1. Be smart when filling your ds160. 2.. Be an active interviewee ... A lot of people got denied while i was waiting for my turn, because they were giving one word answers. Vo will now have to ask many questions just to get one information. No time the vo will just denied them straight. 3... Pray and practice hard ..........what worked for me,,........ 1. I prayed mid nights prayers for 3months while I practice 2. I also spoke in American accent all through. After She collected my passport and i20 she didn't looked at me until she approved me. Her face was on the computer while she ask me questions, I was the one staring at her while she types and read somethings on her computer, so I was relax and everything I rehease was just flowing ( all the American movies wey I dey watch pay me Lol) it worked for me, I am not saying everyone must do the same 3. .........Previouly denied....... People always say us consulars are trained psychologists they will know when you are Lying ..here you too need to be you own psychologist o.. From ur interview u have to deduced why u were denied and then on ds160 you can briefly explain what happened there and why u think that is not true. Make it brief, so u can skip all those formal I was denied under session 214b stuff. After all everyone know say na 214b . so straight to the point with something like " during my interview I was nervous and I couldn't express myself when the consular asked about my bla bla bla or when the consular inquired about this or that I stuttered and gave a one word answer and so I was denied, but actually I was this or but actually I have this ( then start explaining how it is ) ...things to note on this part while explaining why u were denied.. 1. Never blame the vo for misunderstanding you... Just see it like it your fault vo thinks you want to japa( I was denied by the Korean guy 1st attempt) 2. Make it short, but make sure the reason you think u were denied and how u think that's not correct is captured.. so to save space don't include the embassy where it happened or date because the current vo have that information.. Why I am saying this is because if its too long vo won't have time to read it all .. It could turn off the vo 3. Don't sound angry or rude 4.. From all the questions you were asked you have to find out at what point vo was not convinced with ur story and decided to denied you. 4. xxxscholar: If you need someone to properly review and scrutinize your DS-160 form you can send me a message, I am willing to help you cross your i's and dot your t's. Your ds-160 form is the most most important part of your application. It has to be error-free. By the way, I won't be charging a penny for this. Nairaland has been very helpful for me and I need to give back as much as I can.
It doesn't matter if you have submitted your DS-160 already or not. It can always be updated until 3 days before your interview.

I just got admission to a university in USA and requires 6months financial statement to obtain I-20. But I am confused about what to as I want to avoid being denied visa due statement errors.
I am using self funding but I don’t know if funding my account within 2weeks and obtaining a statement afterwards will be sufficient to obtain the I-20 and visa approval.

Don't self fund. Find yourself a sponsor even if it's your fund you will put in the account.

One advise I can give you is to have good soft skill like IT related skills ( eg programing, web developing, database management etc ) before traveling or be a good FX traders who has gained good consistency in fx trading.

Please friends I need your input on this. I'm trying to apply for a tuition assistance. Now, the school has stated that applicants whose financial status aligns with the federal poverty guidelines at maximum of 200% can apply. What that means I don't really get. They're further requesting for a most recent IRS tax return and federal 1040/or W2 and a one month paychecks stubs for all working adults in the household, benefits letter from County and employer letter verifying income. Does this apply to international students or US citizens alone? Also what are my chances of getting a tuition assistance if my sponsor is able to cover my expenses.

MackyNaija: You are very right! The plan was to chase the same salary I was earning in California or slightly less but it happened way better than anticipated. Truthfully, I got "lucky"! ***WHERE luck = "opportunity" + "preparedness"
Gist deh: First stage: HR Questionnaire with over 10 questions on why I am looking for a new job and how my experience fits into each of the job requirements. (very easy, no pressure)
Second stage: Hiring Manager Asked behavioural and general questions + one rugged brain teaser about light bulb and switches (my head wan catch fire) She gave me a hint and I answered the question. (relaxed $ easy)
Third and Fourth stage - Technical, Wednesday and Thursday: Senior QE (about 8 yrs experience) and Principal QE (about 25 yrs experience). The 4th stage was more relaxed! Person wey go give you job no go stress you! (normal difficulty for both). I knew that if I passed this stage, I'd get the job.
Up till this point, I was interviewing for the Senior QE role. The decision to assign you to the Senior or Principal role would depend on your ability - Na then I sense say hot pepper deh wait for me for front.
Fifth/Final stage: Senior Quality Manager and Director of Quality... I was called on Friday morning around 10 am by the manager to see if I could fix the last video interview for the same day...

The interview: Case Study (very high pressure) The package holding the question and spreadsheet was sent 10 minutes before the interview (Nothing like take-home presentation). Here, nobody can save you, if you no know am, you no know am and you die well.
It was an excel sheet of data that had to be analyzed: Chai! My bread and butter! Same shi I have been doing almost every day and at a minimum thrice weekly for the last 24 months!!!!!
**I started.. shared my screen and had to say my thoughts aloud so they could access my problem-solving/data analysis skills... Na this kind thing I deh like, interview to separate wheat from chaff. Test of true ability.
In 30 minutes I was done with the analysis and summarized my findings which I sent as a mock email to a VP.
Kai! I struggled to hold back tears of joy on the video call as I knew I had blasted it!
The Director said Excellent! They had used this same data for multiple people and no one had ever analyzed it like this. Oboy! Cold catch me... That was when I realised the position of Principal Engineer was looking possible. Principal level is a role that requires 8 to 12 years of pure QE experience but I had dismantled it at roughly 7 total years of experience, - less than 3 as a QE!!!
When I hear the salary on Monday morning as HR call... my brain jam! Wayyyy over $100k. If you know how much G-wagon be, na around that amount be the salary or solve the math below. If G-wagon = $x , 'Hammer' Factor, Y = 0.95 to 1.15 and Macky's salary, Z = $x * Y Find Z [abeg forgive my nonsense equation, na over happiness cause am] I don hammer for this country! An amount I never thought I could earn as an annual rate in my entire career as an Engineer here. Words cannot express the joy!

HOW TO REQUEST FOR EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT
NOTE: Emergency appointments are mostly approved for students who are requesting within 60 days of their program start date (program start date is on your I-20). So, make sure you you are applying within that 60 days. But if it is beyond that at the moment, relax; don't let others' approval news push you to request before the required period or you may limit your visa lifetime and be forced to pay another visa fee if you didn't get a suitable date later.
To proceed
1, Pay visa fee, SEVIS fee, and at least, start your DS-160 FORM and have the application Number; according to the U.S embassy site, you are encouraged to complete it.
2, Create your CGI profile and fill in the details.
3. Proceed by booking any available date you see, even if the current available appointment date is 2024, book it (Schedule an appointment online for the earliest available date. Please note that you must schedule an appointment before you can request an expedited date. At the time you schedule your appointment, you will see an onscreen message showing the earliest available appointment date, which includes emergency appointments--from the US embassy site).
4, Once you are done, return to your landing page and you will see "Emergency Request." Click that and read the details on the page that loads. Once you are done, Click Here at the bottom of that page.
5, On the Emergency Request page, Fill in your tentative date. Then type your reason for requesting emergency appointment. This is a constructive message explaining that you did not see a suitable date that works for your program start date as stated on the I-20 and so, you need an interview appointment date before your program start date.
6, Since you have paid the fees mentioned in step 1, upload the pdf document in the file section below the box you type your message. Remember, your SEVIS fee payment confirmation, I20. You may attach a third document such as assistantship letter or admission letter, but this is not required.

Remember, getting a visa is not just about getting an admission and a date. Put in the effort to prepare for your interview; show confidence, speak up, let the consular feel energy in your voice. You have invested money, time, and other resources to come this far, the interview is the last phase to getting the visa. Give it your best. Do not go to embassy not knowing why you pick your school, your course, and what you want to do with the degree after graduation. If your appearance at the embassy this time is your chance to finally get the visa, please prepare. Let your preparation meets the opportunity!
