Democratic coup d'etat
Nigerian democracy has not gotten to the ideal state! What happened in the two houses will spell the doom of this administration. If PMB thinks by his non intervention stance, it will make them to acquiesce to his demands , he will soon wake up from his dreamland. Nigerian politicians are the most selfish human beings that has ever walked this earth. Go and look at where they live! The roads untarred, only their house has 24 hours electricity and they live like kings in the midst of the poverty. They will start showing him their true colors when he starts putting forward bills that will inconvenience them. And he has shown them that they can get away with defiance . Unfortunately, PMB has been demystified as a paper tiger. Our grouch with GEJ was that indiscipline and corruption was always rewarded. PMB too has started on the same note. Saraki has been rewarded for his treachery and throwing his party under the bus. This will embolden others too And it is an invitation to chaos. |

Education › Secondary School Girl Brings Her Entire Family To Beat Up Her Teacher by Pangea(op): 5:43am On Jun 10, 2015 |
Ozar secondary school, Asa in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State is scene to a chaotic episode when a student who was sent home by a teacher Mrs Njoku to barb her hair, regrouped with her mother and elder siblings to attack teachers and students who were having their studies. The JSS two student, Precious Nwadike who looks like an overfed spoilt brat had earlier been warned by same teacher two weeks ago to barb her hair but she did not heed to the warning. On arrival to school on Monday, the student was asked to go home and barb her hair, she left immediately only to return two hours later with the mother and four of her siblings who marched straight to the staff room while also commanding the teachers to come out. Furthermore, the mother of the student,Mrs Nwadike held a teacher, pulled her cloth ordered the sons to cut her hair. The intervention of another teacher, Mrs Osuagwu provoked the sons and one of them,Uche knotted and almost strangled her.But the quick intervention of students, led to a free for all fight as Mrs Nwadike and children were fully prepared. A youth corp’s member serving in the school who pleaded anonymity had to alert the military personnel. Their quick arrival at school calmed the situation and doused the tension. As at the time of filing in d report, Mrs Nwadike and children are now cooling off at Obehie police station,Asa. The Principal of the school Mrs F.N Nwachukwu, as well took the wounded students and teachers to obehie Health Center for treatment. http://www.gistplanet.net/2015/06/gobe-secondary-school-girl-brings-her-entire-family-to-beat-up-her-teacher-photos.html

Politics › Re: A Call For Preservation Of The Memories Of Today's Events by Pangea: 9:30pm On Jun 09, 2015 |
omenka: Good evening all.
This thread isn't created to spite any one or any people. It is just a wake up call to majority Nigerians, who happen to be very poor at remembering events of history and how they are meant to shape our thought processes and indeed orientation.
Now, very interesting events happened in the last 24 hours in our National Legislative Chambers. Both chambers were inaugurated and their leadership elected. APC being the dominant party clinched the top spots in both chambers, but as we all know, PDP and her supporters seem to be the most jubilant party over the outcome of the elections, why, one might be tempted to ask.
In the run up to the general elections, Saraki whom PDP supported doggedly in the just concluded NASS election, was hounded by the same party, threatened with all manner of sanctions that eventually culminated in his exit from the party. His rift with the party (PDP) and the presidency back then, began with his blowing the lid on what has come to be known as the biggest heist in the nation's history- the Subsidy Scam- which ran into tens of billions of dollars. He was buffeted from all sides with all manner of allegations and barely survived having himself locked up in jail. He eventually found a sanctuary in the opposition, now the ruling party.
Now, inexplicably, the same party that threw everything but the kitchen sink at this recalcitrant and rebellious congressman sees him as a valiant, their knight in shining armour. Wonders huh? Well they voted for him in the absence of half of the members of the Senate as the Senate president, case closed., and for what?- just to spite the opposition, maybe, and to have their man as the Deputy.
In the Green Chamber, Dagora emerged the Speaker. I know quite little about him, but nevertheless, that is immaterial to the crux of this piece.
Here's what my problem is: during the electioneering campaigns, Nigerians/electorates were subjected to all manner of divisive and potentially catastrophic propaganda from the PDP. To mention a few, we saw things like-
1. Buhari is too old to be a leader.
2. Buhari is a terrorist sponsor.
3. Buhari has fossilised ideas and cannot lead a 21st century country effectively.
4. Buhari has prostate cancer and might die soon.
5. Buhari's candidacy is a product Northern conspiracy for National domination.
6. Buhari is "tribalistic".
7. The Northerners suffer from a "Born to Rule Syndrome".
8. APC is a party akin to the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt. It is dominated by Muslims and Northerners.
And others too numerous to mention.
Numbers 5-8 are my major concern.
Most of the points listed above were propagated and hammered on by same people who are jubilant over the emergence of Dagora and Saraki as Speaker HoR and Senate President respectively. Dagora is a Northerner, Saraki is from North Central (includes christian dominated states such as Taraba, plateau, Benue, but when the time comes, PDP will call him a "Northerner", and when you say "North", everyone thinks "Islam/Muslim). It is necessary putting this in writing because a time will come, perhaps in 2019, when PDP would want to replay that ethnic, religious, and regional cards which appears to be the only ammo in their arsenal- polarise Nigerians along these lines, have them vote based on these sentiments, and see to your retention in office!
Now, the situation we have at present shows Three of the Top Four Positions are occupied by "Northerners" but PDP is happy about it and apparently has no qualms whatsoever with the arrangement.
I have always been against all that North, South, East, West, Muslim, Christian, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo politicking. It has never and will never be the panacea to Nigeria's innumerable problems. Have always been pro Nigeria and would always support whoever it is that gets into an office as far as their competence isn't in doubt.
Without the support of PDP, what happened today wouldn't have happened, so we would hold them to account when the time comes, and remind them of their lofty stance at this time.
The events of today should effectively put to rest all that ethnoreligious politicking that PDP is known for.
We look forward to a very productive National Assembly.
Congrats to Saraki.
Congrats to Dagora.
God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Cc: Passingshot, Mynd44, maclatunji, OAM4J, Obiagelli, Gbawe, Donphilopus, Midolian, Beremx, NgeneUkwenu, Chuhbie. What happened today Is a big lesson to APC never to underestimate the overly ambitious politicians in her fold. It's also a lesson to cover all political calculations. Never to be blindsided again It is still an amazement to me that they never saw this coming! When PDP has been bragging on the pages of the newspaper that they will capitalise on the division in APC and hijack the house. Over confidence kills! |

PassingShot: You're obviously naïve.
Do you know that GEJ only handed over his hand-over documents on May 28th? Do you realize his transition committee needs to work on that huge document before the government can take off? And fyi, to make take-off rough was the reason GEJ and his team didn't hand-over the documents early enough. To frustrate his take-off!
Remember that in PMB's terms of reference, he had asked his TC to "come up with suggestions so that Nigeria can experience Change in 30 days, 60 days and 100 days". This clause jolted GEJ's camp and they did everything to thwart their efforts; hence the deliberate delay in handing over.
Wait for this week to pass before starting to rant. I understand your frustration though. I sometimes feel same way. Excuse upon excuses Continue to manufacture them for him. The essence of problem is to find solution to them. What has just happened today will complicate things further! |

PassingShot: What are those events specifically?
Don't rant. Just tell us those events since his inauguration and let's educate you boy. Where is his chief of staff? No operational staff to negotiate and relate with waring parties He was detached from party politics, letting power brokers run amock He left the country without his own structure, PDP appointees are still running the country. He went to G7 meeting when his country is not settled and he came back to hold a meeting while a coup was happening (reminds me how he was removed as a military head of state) |

PassingShot: What's your business with NASS and who emerges as their leader? Where were you when PMB reassured severally that he will not interfere in how they choose their leadership? And how is PDP controlling his government?
The last time I checked, Saraki is an APC senator. That Lawan didn't emerge may be good for PMB if you don't know. I don't like arguing with unrealistic people! Saraki is an APC senator? Someone that just undermined the APC party? I'm sure you will not have to wait very long before he declares his decamping openly. |

themilanway: You are free to join in cursing him if that will make you more of a man.
Buhari clearly stated that he is ready and willing to work with anybody elected as the senate president.
I also don't see anything wrong in him calling for a truce meeting.
Who would I have prefered?I don't give a damn about who wins or who not.All I'm interested are people who will work with the president in rebuilding this country.
I just hope Saraki will put the people 1st before his personal ambition.
God bless Nigeria. Someone that could be desperate to pull the kind of stunt he just did will what? Put the people first before his personal ambition ? You better wake up and stop dreaming! |
