Rail Gun:
In development for years, the weapon would be able to fire a projectile at Mach 7, or seven times the speed of sound, hitting targets 110 miles away. (By comparison, a Hellfire missile travels a little over Mach 1.)

Instead of gunpowder as a propellant, it uses electromagnetic pulses, and the projectiles hit with such overwhelming force that they don’t need to be armed with explosives. The impact from traveling at such amazing speeds is enough, thank you very mu sadch. Lasers sizzle rather than go boom, as some have said. The rail gun definitely has one heck of a boom.

The gun made its debut at the Navy’s Future Force Science and Technology Expo at the Washington Convention Center this week.

One top Navy official recently likened the impact to “a freight train going through the wall at a hundred miles an hour.” The lack of gunpowder and explosive warheads eliminates some significant safety hazards for Navy crews, officials say.

A SECURITY man with one of the banks robbed in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Wednesday, yesterday relived what he called “an horrible experience”.

The robbery scene was desolate-the day after- as many offices, including the banks, were closed.

Traffic on Ogolonto Road was light; the few businesses that opened within 500metres of Majidun Bridge, assessed the damaged to their properties by stray bullets.

Twelve people were injured; eight vehicles were damaged during the operation.

The injured, Olufunsho Ajibike, Tobi Balogun, Ariyo Taiwo, Agboola Biodun, Olanipekun Seun, Onikosi Segun, Adebisi Kolawole, Sunday Folorunsho, Rilwan Olaniyan, Damilola Adediran, Olabanji Abiye and Janet Adeshina, were treated at the Ikorodu General Hospital and discharged.

Nineteen-year-old Olaniyan, it was learnt, was transferred to another hospital on Lagos Mainland for surgery.

The security man said the gun men numbering about 15 came in through Beach Road, shooting as they paraded the road.

The hoodlums, according to him, were coordinated and split themselves into groups.

Those who entered the banks threw dynamites that shattered the security doors; two others (man and a woman) went into the Ebute Ipakodo Police Station, shooting sporadically.

The others, he said, took control of the road, shooting.

“I have been instructed not to talk to you. I can really talk much but please it was a horrible experience. It was sad and terrible. We all ran. Not even the policemen came out.

He said: “The robbers, small children, meant business. But I think they were not out to kill anyone. They were just shooting to scare people off.”

Other eyewitnesses in a nearby restaurant told The Nation that few policemen came out about 30 minutes after the armed robbers had left.

Some of the boys, who claimed they were on the other side (police station side) when the incident occurred, said the policemen removed their uniforms and fled when the robbers besieged the station.

“You need to see what happened here yesterday (Wednesday). I am laughing but it is not funny. The truth is that we do not have security in this country.

“See our policemen shouting “I am a criminal! I am a criminal! Because two young armed robbers held them captive.

“The police could not do anything. They removed their uniforms; some of them ran away. Even the female ones removed their uniforms and had only their underwears on. They were rolling on the floor and screaming ‘I am a criminal! All of them.

“I am laughing because the police waited until the robbers had gone before they came out and started parading, looking for innocent people to arrest.

“But it is not their fault though. Because they cannot match those armed robbers. Those guys had better guns and even bombs. They were very prepared,” said an eyewitness.

Another eye witness, Tunde, who spoke in Yoruba, told The Nation that most of the hoodlums wore military camouflage and the new army brown boots.

When The Nation visited the Origin Jetty, Where the robbers escaped in two speed boats afer torching their vehicles, some of the damaged vehicles had been taken off the road.

It was learnt that some vehicles belonging to people who had gone to work through the waterways were affected when the hoodlums burnt their own vehicles.

A man, who gave his name as T.J, said they scampered for safety through the canal at the sound of the gunshots.

He said: “I am yet to recover my voice. My sister, it was not funny. The way they were shooting and jubilating, not a single policeman or soldier pursued them.

“They were just shooting on their own and it was in the course of the jubilation that they shot that teenager.

“As they were coming, we took our boats away so that they didn’t hijack anyone. But when we could no longer stand the pressure from the bullet, I personally dived into the canal and burst out on the other street.

“I was inside the canal when I heard them calling on their boats to come for them. I saw two speed boats come to the jetty and they jumped in and left.

“By the time I came out, they had set their vehicles on fire and the fire affected other people’s cars too. Then, the bullets they were shooting also damaged some people’s windscreens and other parts. Even my car was affected and at the moment, it is at the panel beater’s place. In all, about eight cars were destroyed.”

It was learnt that the robbers told the bankers to “cooperate or die.”

Another eyewitness, Damilola Adediran, who sustained neck and hand injuries, said the robbers forced customers to load money in their bags.

Adediran, who has since gone to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, because of her “worried mother”, told The Nation on telephone that the robbers did not even mind that she was bleeding.

“I was in the bank with my brother to deposit money. Suddenly, we saw glasses flying and people started running to take cover.

“The glasses cut me on my hand and neck. We all ran. Immediately they entered, they said they were not in the bank to kill anyone that people should either cooperate or die.

“By that time, they have gotten access to where the money is and I was hiding just beside the place. When they then saw the money, I just noticed someone dragging me by my neck and telling me to be packing money into bags for them.

“They forced bank customers and staff to pack money for them and when they finished they left. It was my brother who called my sister to take me to the hospital after they have gone.

“I just thank God that nothing happened to me and my brother. Most people sustained injuries from broken glasses. They did not shoot guns inside the bank. They just went for the money and then forced us to pack it for them,” she said.

Politics › Re: APC/NASS Crises: Observation On The Major Players by Pangea: 8:13am On Jun 26, 2015
barcanista:
Watching the APC caucus of distinguished Senators and Honorable Members of House of Representatives was a shame to behold on Thursday June 26, 2015. It was a shame that the ruling party couldn't put their act in order. More painful is that the incompetence of the ruling party is having effect on the Nigeria State. Here are some observations...

1. SP Saraki and Speaker Dogara Are Naïve, Arrogantly and Ignorant
The positions of Senate and House Leaders and their deputies, and the Chief Whips and their deputies are not appointive offices. It has never been heard in any parliament that the presiding officer determines who occupies these principal offices. For the record, the Majority leader is supposed to be a core party loyalist. He is the primary link between his party and members of the party in the parliament, the majority leader schedules business on the floor by calling bills from the calendar and keeps members of his party advised about the daily legislative program. The Chief Whip is also supposed to be a core party man that enforced discipline on erring party members that conducts themselves against the interests of the party in the parliament. By tradition, the majority party chooses the Majority leader, Chief Whip, Deputy Leader and Deputy whip, while members of the party in the parliament ratify. If the APC says they want Lawan as Senate Leader and Gbajabiamila as House Leader, all that has to be done is for the APC members of the Senate and the House respectively to either ratify the names sent to them by the party leadership or they (members) elect who they want. For SP Saraki and Speaker Dogora to insist on a particular pattern that is not acceptable to majority of their party parliamentarians shows that both men are arrogantly naive. This can't be accepted in any democracy, and accepting it will set a bad precedent for this country.

2. Saraki And APC Have Done Nigeria A Great Disservice
Senator Ali Ndume was indicted in November 2011 to have link with BH. The arrested BH Spokesman Ali Konduga had maintained that Sen Ndume had paid him to send threatening text messages http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-15829203. There are call evidence of Ali Ndume's phone exchange with Boko Haram which the undistinguished Senator admitted after it was extracted by an agent from the Israeli based Digital Forensic http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/12/court-admits-fresh-evidence-linking-ndume-to-boko-haram/. As at the time of the election, Senator Ndume is facing Terrorism trial. Instead of APC to give their ticket to competent hand they gave it to the same Ali Ndume. He was elected thanks to the change propaganda and became a Senator once again rather than clearing his name. Senator Saraki out of selfish interest compounded the woes of Nigerians by imposing an alleged Boko Haram Sponsor as Nigeria's Senate Leader. What a disservice by APC and Bukola Saraki. A shame to Nigeria that the Leader of the Upper House is facing terrorist charges.

3.APC Deserve No Sympathy
APC rode on propaganda and blackmail. It is a gathering of people of different ideologies, different worlds and men of questionable integrity. It isn't filled with men with common goals like what a political party should be. It is filled with men whose sole ambition was to form a consortium to send Jonathan back to Otuoke and GRAB power. APC as a party also encouraged rascality and impunity in the last National Assembly. APC commended and encouraged Tambawal and the 7 rascals PDP Governors for their anti-party activities. It is a shame but the APC encouraged impunity and even rewarded it by giving them political fortune. Now that APC is at the receiving end of the whole thing, and even receiving worse, I don't think it deserve any symparthy. It is a shame that the presiding officers of both Chambers are hell-bent on by-passing common sense just to subvert the interest of majority of the party. At least in 2011 the PDP had their way in choosing the four principal offices when they lost the two presiding offices due to APC instigated rebellion in the House. I understand the plight for the APC but I have no sympathy for the party. I hope they put their act in order.

4. SP Saraki and Speaker Dogara Deserve To Be Served
In the last dispensation, Senator Saraki and Honorable Dogara were part of the new PDP that fought alongside the opposition to cause a wreck to the Jonathan's re-election ambition and the PDP structure. Now they are back to do to their former comrades-at-arm what they did to their former party. If Saraki and Dogara think they will enjoy the support and privileges from the PDP on the long run, they should have their heads examined. The PDP will make a grave mistake by rewarding Saraki and Hon Dogara on the long run. Already PDP has got the Deputy Senate Presidency, the party should understand that Saraki and Dogara need them more that they need those men. In the event that APC wield their big stick on them, the PDP should have in mind the treachery of both men and serve them at latter date. Yes I supported Saraki and Dogara for Senate President and Speaker respectively so as to nullify the APC's arrangement because Nigeria cannot be run like a one-man's business, it is not because they were worth it. That is in the past now. Saraki and Dogara betrayed PDP to benefit from APC, now they turned around to betray APC but must not benefit from PDP

5. APC Should Not Hold Nigeria To Ransom
Nigerians are tired with one day one trouble for APC and their chieftains. The business of Governance is already suffering all because nothing has started. The auto-piloting system that Buhari is running isn't helping matters. Nigerians are tired of hearing APC Governors and other elected officers talking about partisan politics rather than performing the role they were elected to. Enough is enough. APC has already wasted one month of our National life, we can't afford the luxury of wasting important time on the troubles of the ruling party
For the first time,
I'm quoting you to agree with you.

What is going on now in our national assembly is a TRAVESTY!

Will he work with looters or traitors too?
How could he say he is for no one and everyone?
How about those who work day and night to make sure he becomes the president and who share his vision?

Politics › New Sect ‘yanlabaiku’ Emerges In Kebbi by Pangea(op): 12:45pm On Jun 25, 2015
NEW SECT ‘YANLABAIKU’ EMERGES IN KEBBI Forbids Western education, shares wives A group known as “Yanlabaiku” with membership of about 100 followers which is also preaching against Western education has emerged at Gwadangwaji, the outskirts of Birnin Kebbi, capital of Kebbi State. The group lays claim to Islam and is conducting public preaching, meetings and processions though no violent activity has been attributed to it.
The group’s members are also called ‘Yanlokoloko’ which is one of the names of one of its leaders, Ismaila Lokoloko, who is assisted by one Bala Amadu. The group is said to be opposed to one of the major teachings of the Islamic religion - the five daily prayers - as it allegedly preaches against offering them as Islam dictates. Members of the group, which is said to have a slogan that puts belief in their Sheikh above God, are also said to willingly surrender their wives to spend the night with their important visitors especially scholars from the group. Daily Trust gathered reliably from security sources in the state that the group’s leaders were part of the group that was based in Niger State before it was disbanded by government. Some of the present leaders relocated to Borno and Yobe states while others relocated to Niger Republic where they might have had direct contact with the Boko Haram. “You might have noticed that their criticism of the five daily prayers which is a compulsory act in Islam is synonymous with the teachings of the sect sacked from Niger State, while the Boko Haram is known to oppose Western education.
The issue of sharing their wives with their scholars is a known practice by some sects in the early 70s,” the source said. When this reporter visited the group’s mosque at Gwadangwaji, behind the PHCN office, some of the members were seen sitting in groups around the mosque. One of the residents of the area, said while talking about the group’s members that, “they sometimes pray two raka’ats and terminate the prayer of three raka’ats saying that Sheikh will complete the rest for them and also that of four raka’ats, only two will be said instead.” Some residents that spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said, “the group used to converge at Malam Labarasi’s residence in Gwadangwaji. Most of us don’t pray in their mosque. We did not pay much attention to them because until we started seeing journalists and other people coming to ask questions, we never knew them.” Leader of the 1,600 Kebbi indigenes displaced by the Boko Haram from Borno State and Niger Republic and camped in Birnin Kebbi, Abubakar Gadu, in an earlier interview with Daily Trust said the leader of the Boko Haram group that led the attack on them in Borno State, one Bala is an indigene of Nasarawa area of Kebbi State and also a fish merchant in Doron Baga, Borno State.
When this reporter made attempt to confirm the allegations from the Imam of the group’s mosque, some worshippers at the mosque told this reporter that the imam had been dethroned few days earlier. However, the former imam of the mosque, Muhammadu Danmaihure, 45, who our correspondent met outside his residence near the mosque said he voluntarily resigned as the imam of the mosque about a week ago after serving in that capacity for over 15 years. “I resigned from my position as the imam of the mosque about a week ago due some misunderstanding between the congregation and I,” he said. But when pressed further on why he had to shift base completely from the premises of the mosque and the building opposite the mosque where followers of the group converged to preach, Danmaihure said: “I was forced to relocate to the frontage of my house to avoid interacting with the group after several attempts and sermons failed to change the minds of the group’s members on certain ideology they are introducing. “I am an indigene of Kebbi State and resigned my role after 15 years of serving as the imam of the same mosque few days ago, because the sect kept insisting that after calling prayer, we must not wait for others to pray in congregation. So, I was not comfortable with that decision which resulted into a serious rift that led to my resignation as imam of the mosque,” he said. When asked if the sect has any similarity with the Boko Haram, why they are observing two instead of the four raka’ats in the afternoon prayer and whether the members actually gave their wives to their visitors, he denied such allegations saying they were not true, adding, “I have also heard of such allegations which I believe are being peddled by people who are opposed to the sects ideology.
One can say anything if he is opposed to your religious ideology,” he said. “I was born and brought up in Gwadangwaji village over 45 years ago and we have been praying five times daily and it is according to Islamic injunction, We have no connection direct or indirect with Boko Haran group up to the time of my resignation as imam,” he stated. He said the District Head of Gwadangwaji summoned him with a congregation of the mosque for a meeting on Sunday night that lasted up to Monday morning. He said the district head questioned his resignation as imam and asked questions on the recent developments in the mosque. “I responded to him same as the response I gave to you journalists who came here on the issue. I also told him that, I am not aware of the purported existence of ‘Yanlokoloko’ group. I know Bala Amadu, but I do not know Ismail Lokoloko in this mosque.
Bala lives close to our Sheikh’s house in Gwadangwaji. But, as I speak to you, he has moved to a place in Niger State about three months ago where he farms every season,” he said. Danmaihure said he currently lives with his two wives and 14 children and that apart from the district head and journalists and some other people in town, there was no security agent that visited or invited him for questioning. When contacted for comments, the District Head of Gwadangwaji, Alhaji Umar Ahmed, denied knowledge of the existence of the sect. But when our correspondent made mention of his Sunday night meeting with the mosque’s former imam, Danmaihure and representatives of the group, the district head shouted: “Why don’t you come and see me instead of questioning me on phone, Malam!” and hung up the call. When our correspondent returned to his office after the outburst and asked him same questions about the alleged emergence of the sect, the district head first responded by asking our correspondent whether he has seen any of the sects member at the mosque, adding “I can’t tell you anything because as a district head I am not supposed to speak to the press.
I am supposed to report to the government. So, if you want to know anything, you should go and ask the government.” Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Samaila Dabai Yombe, when contacted earlier on phone said all necessary action has been taken by government to checkmate the sect, adding that security agents are already on top of the matter. “Government has sprang into action with a follow up instruction to all security agents to bring down any such body that presents security threats to our people,” he said.
Nevertheless, Kebbi police command denied official knowledge of the sect as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nafiu Abubakar, told this reporter on phone that the command was yet to receive official report of the sect, adding, “we have not received any official report of the emergence of the sect. However, we have dispatched some personnel to investigate the claim,” he added.
The premises of the mosque and a building opposite it which used to be a beehive of activities with the followers of the group engaged in lectures and writing on slates few days ago, is seen being deserted during the last visit of our correspondent to the area. There was also no presence of security personnel at the mosque and the building opposite. It is also not clear if any member of the sect has been arrested for investigation. About 1,600 displaced indigenes of Kebbi State and victims of Boko Haram attacks in some villages in Diffa State of the Republic of Niger were recently moved to Hajj Camp in Birnin Kebbi.
