OK. Maybe they want to settle those that their appointments were cancelled first.

Hi guys, who has been able to register on the CGI (US VISA Platform) for the first time applicant? I have been trying since yesterday but no headway. Should I assume it will go by 9 am today?
What problems are you having. You are not specific.

Please, I am pretty confused here. I have heard from fairheart but I have also got diverse opinions. Please, what should I do?

I was able to renew my passport, after my visa appointment was canceled in March cos of COVID-19. Now I want to fill another ds160 form since my program dates have changed after deferral. Should I use the old passport number since that's what I used in the MRV payment and in my I-20? Or I should use the new passport number to fill in the new ds160 form? Will I be able to use the MRV I paid with the old passport number to schedule appointment date if I use the new passport number on my ds-160?

Hello, please I would need clarification on this;

1. A student had a low GRE (like mid range 310-320) and he has gotten approval from a professor for research. Nevertheless, he did not meet the department requirement for GRE. The department demands 162Q. But the student had 159Q. Please, how can this student be successfully admitted despite this constraint.

2. How do you know a professor has funding or a research he is undertaking that needs student to carry them out?. I discovered most department don't state it clearly on the profile page that a certain professor is open for student or something.

3. Please what is the disadvantage of applying to low rank school in the U.S in terms of admission. Moreover, I discovered a low rank school had all of the equipment I needed for research and I am concerned it is a low ranking school . Hence, Is it that, the tendency to be funded is low or there are other things attached to them.
What do you mean by low ranked? And how low?

All the information you need is available online... not sure why Nigerians pretend that its some specialized knowledge known only to a sacred few.

The speed at which you get a green card after your PhD depends on you and your employer.

1. First step... finish your phd and worry less about a green card. It isn't difficult for a Nigerian at all.
2. After your phd, get your OPT, your school's office of international students should help you with this and any questions you have regarding the process.
3. Get a job, make sure your employer understands that you intend to apply for a GC. Note, the GC process (via employment) is your employers. You don't apply on your own (well unless you're going through the National Interest Waiver process - which is more challenging).
4. Once you get a job, your employer will apply for an H1B on your behalf. The H1B gives you more breathing space for 3-6 years, during which time you should be applying for your GC.
5. Your employer basically takes care of the rest. The process is divided into 2 - the I-140 and I-485 stages. The I-140 stage depends on whether you have enough experience and qualifications to apply for EB1 or EB2 (you can do EB3 but this is not really for you since you have a phd). The EB1 route is far easier but the EB2 route is also ok so long as your employer is willing to put in the effort. - it requires an intermediate Perm step by the Department of Labor.
6. Once your I-140 is approved (should take about 1 year), you're basically close to the finish line.
7, Apply for your I-485, barring any backlogs at the USCIS, this is usually a 1-year process and should be more of a formality. After this is approved, you should get your GC in the mail in a few weeks. Your family is automatically part of your application so they get GCs too. Chances are you and your family may need to sit for an interview but this is relatively simple.

8. And this is the most important part - DO NOT take public support (e.g. medicaid) or break the law, both will affect you at your I-485 stage. Do not drink and drive... a DUI automatically revokes your visa and you have to come back to Nigeria to take care of it.

Overall from start to finish, you're looking at 3 years depending on your employer.

It's an easy process... spend more time making the best of your phd and good luck.
Does this apply to MSc candidates?

Kiddos?
Some are older than you you know? Just because you're in the US already doesn't give you the "Elder Brother" position. Majority have come this far without any help from anyone (except genuine helpers here e.g fairheart and Lagosismyhome) on this thread. Aced their tests, waited throughout the application review period. So I believe if anyone thinks he can dampen their enthusiasm, kindly reevaluate.
The kiddo statement tells a lot about the so called maturity he and his goons claim.

if you were smart and had little modicum of sense in you, you will know that the USCIS has since started a phased resumption of embassy due to conditions in each countries and this has nothing to do with Trump. Trump's focus in winning re-election, not keeping tabs on the 196 countries to see which and which he'd stifle. Every country that has gotten this under control has opened embassy, even south Korea.

If your school doesn't go in-class, then there's not need going to the embassy. That's a known fact and has nothing to do with the incessant gobbledegook you constantly spew.

And how does citizens bringing their spouses affects F1 VISA that brings $41B. The two statements are unconnected, it's evident you're a hopeless troll.

It's more logical to say embassies might not open this year because cases in Nigeria might keep rising and not be kept under control, but to say they'd open and not attend to F-1 VISA is nothing but utter stupidity.
He needs you to do private lessons for him, make he for have sense small.

Don’t worry. I know how disillusioned cretins like you give themselves false hope. You are thinking like your president.

Don’t worry, the embassy will open tomorrow and interview you alone.

Nobody wants Americans in their country at this moment. It’s a mess over here. Everyone is moving mad with so many conspiracy BS.

Politicians being too desperate to salvage the economy.

Forget about 2020. The embassy has a lot of backlogs. When they open, they might not even attend to any F-1 student till 2021.
You are just spewing rubbish.

I just saw this on the BBC Nigeria website, so it's very likely true. Only one airport has been approved for international operations based on that list. I hope that's not a mistake, and I hope it means others will follow suit soon. If I'm going to be in the US this year it has to be before October 2nd, so I guess this is good news for me... Sort of?
I think The minister tweeted it's a typographical error.

ICE just released a new regulation banning new international students from entering the country if your school is entirely online. This rule also stops consulates from issuing visas and school officials issuing I-20s to students going to schools that are online only.
I think The news also says we don't need to be re-issued a new I-20 if we haven't already.

TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Paragontek: 5:20pm On Jul 23, 2020
My school sent this survey few days ago.

"Please complete this survey to indicate your interests so that we can make the appropriate preparations for the Fall 2020 semester. Please answer these questions with the assumption that consulates would open and are issuing visas, travel restrictions would be lifted, and the CDC and federal and local authorities have issued the greenlight.

Proposal 1 (Semester Dates: October 12 - January 15)
The following programs are open to offering a late start for the Fall semester if there is enough interest: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology and Geophysics, Information Science and Technology, and Petroleum Engineering. The courses would be offered in the hybrid and/or face-to-face option (just like the regular semester we are planning to have this fall).

The above option would allow you to start on October 12th and complete the semester by January 15th. You would continue into your Spring 2021 semester right after the first semester ends. Your I-20 would reflect the new semester dates. For those who already have a Fall 2020 I-20, we would reissue updated I-20's.

This option would give you 2 full semesters and you would be eligible for OPT in the summer. An adequate level of interest from students is required to be able to offer this option.

Proposal 2 (Regular Semester, Online from your home country: August 24th - December 18th)
With this option, you will start in the regular Fall 2020 semester online (August 24th start date) and take 1 or 2 courses online. You will complete the course(s) online and start on-campus in the Spring 2021 semester. Keep in mind that since you did not start on-campus in the Fall, you will not be eligible for OPT in the Summer 2021 as you will not have completed 2 semesters on-campus. This option will be available to anyone who is interested in doing so."
