PoliticsNNPC Not Increasing Petrol Pump Price – Official by Paraman(op): 11:07am On Feb 09, 2024
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd, has assured the public that there is no imminent increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.

The company therefore urged Nigerians to disregard unfounded rumours and assured them that there are no plans for an upward review of the PMS price.

This is as the national oil company explained its decision to move a significant portion of its revenue to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), saying it was in alignment with directives of the board of directors to maintain safe obligor limits with commercial banks.

“Motorists nationwide are advised against engaging in panic buying, as there is presently ample availability of PMS across the country, chief corporate communications officer of the company, Olufemi O. Soneye, said in a statement.

The group managing director of NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari, stated this in a meeting with the senior management team of the CBN, led by governor of the apex bank, Olayemi Cardoso.

He explained that the company, which is the largest company in the country, has a high transaction liquidity level, adding that the apex bank has created a digital platform for its transactions going forward.

He said, “We understand very clearly that this review of our decision to move a significant portion of our revenues to the Central Bank of Nigeria is very timely. We made that decision to align with the directives of our board of directors to maintain safe obligor limits with commercial banks.

“We do need additional support particularly from the central bank. We are a very huge company, our transaction liquidity levels are very high. And perhaps we’re the largest business in this country. And we’re also happy that this CBN has created a very robust digital platform for transactions and also created a department that will deal with NNPC issues and it will have non hindrance to our operation.

“We will continue to collaborate with the Central Bank of Nigeria to ensure that further improvements are received to ensure that this relationship serves the best interests of our company. And of course, ultimately, our country.”

In his remarks, Olayemi Cardoso, the governor of CBN said, “the NNPC has made the decision to move its respectable part of its business to the Central Bank of Nigeria. And I also want to say that we have restructured and strengthened internal processes such that we will be very capable of taking on this enormous responsibility that will be placed within the central bank.

“We are looking forward to further collaboration with NNPC. And I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this effective collaboration will work in the best interests of NNPC and Nigeria in general.”

Following their meeting in Abuja on Thursday, the NNPC Ltd. and CBN Chiefs noted the value created by the decision for all parties, especially in providing the NNPC Ltd. with an improved platform for managing its cash holding obligor limits in commercial banks set by the Board of Directors.

A statement jointly signed by chief corporate communications officer, NNPC Ltd.Olufemi Soneye and acting director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Hakama Sidi Ali, both parties said the CBN has provided enhanced digital platforms for all transactions and has established specific limits to manage NNPC Ltd. transactions.

Both parties have also committed to further strengthening the collaboration to ensure seamless operations of the commercial NNPC Limited and noted that NNPC Ltd. continues to have banking transactions with commercial banks as required.

I don't hoard dollars but I do get dollars from close family members abroad. If the gap between the black market and official rate keeps on expanding, why will one want to exchange at bank rates?

HealthRe: Health Workers Kick As Nigerian Nursing Council Introduces Stringent Conditions by Paraman: 4:47pm On Feb 08, 2024
Lifebender:
Nurse Ogochukwu @ogolindalucy announced: “We would be having a walk next week to the NMCN office in Abuja to meet with the Registrar.

“Our reason for this walk is that several persons and organizations have written to them but they have failed to respond so we will now have to take the bull by the horn.”
She said that the purpose of the walk/rally would focus on “Nursing Reform: Improved remuneration for Nurses. We are the bedrock of the hospital but we are the least paid. We need a salary structure for Nurses: private and government hospital should have a salary structure even if that of private nurses will not be the same with those in government hospitals, at least no Nurse should be paid below a certain amount of money.

“Welfare for Nurses: We should have a welfare or committee responsible for making sure no nurse is victimized or abused. In a situation of assault as we have seen in many cases there should be a body speaking on behalf of the nurse. There should be a body where a nurse can report to get justice.

“Reinstate the verification portal: There are so many reasons why one needs verification not just for migration purposes, it is also needed for educational purposes.

“We are members of a professional body, we renew our license every 3 years so an official memo should be sent out before removing the portal from the website.

“You owe communication and transparency to your members. So, we demand an explanation as to why the verification portal was removed from the website and when it will be reinstated.

“End Quackery: The reason why our profession is not respected is because quacks have hijacked our profession, so employers pay us peanuts and people treat us anyhow. These days you cannot differentiate a quack from a Registered Nurse because they have infiltrated our profession.

“These are the reasons why we would rally in NMCN office come next week.

“We need a change in this our profession in Nigeria. Now we cannot just do this alone we need to be United and for those in the diaspora we need your support and assistance. We should not be scared as we are only seeking for our rights and not fighting.

PoliticsArmy Rescues 18 Female Kidnapped Victims In Katsina by Paraman(op): 3:33pm On Feb 08, 2024
Troops of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday succeeded in rescuing 18 female kidnapped victims from their captors and handed them over to the Katsina State Government.

This is coming days after 55 wedding guests who were said to be escorting a bride home along the Damari town in Sabuwa Local Government Area of the state were kidnapped by suspected bandits.

The Brigade Commander, 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Katsina, Brig.- Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, said that the soldiers took a rescue operation to the bandits’ enclaves at Yan-Tumaki and Dan-Ali forests.

He explained that the troops successfully engaged the terrorists in a gun battle, after which they successfully rescued the victims.

Fadairo then handed over the victims to the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu.

He stressed the readiness of the Nigerian Army to continue to work for the restoration of permanent peace in the state.

The commander charged the personnel under the Brigade to sustain such rescue operations to ensure that all other kidnapped victims were freed.

Responding, Mu’azu restated the maximum commitment of the government to restore permanent peace in the state.

Mu’azu explained that Governor Dikko Radda has invested hugely in the security sector, adding, ” The investments have been yielding positive results.”

The commissioner commended the military and other security agencies for their courageous service toward restoring peace in the state and urged them to maintain the tempo.

He, therefore, advised the bandits, kidnappers, and other criminals to repent immediately or face a myriad of unpalatable consequences.

The commissioner equally assured security agents that the government was making necessary efforts to rescue the women kidnapped on their way to a wedding ceremony in Sabuwa Local Government.

He further advised the people especially in the front-line local governments to avoid night travel for their safety.

Mu’azu also urged people of the state to always assist in providing useful information about criminals and their hideouts.

The commissioner later presented N100,000 to each of the rescued victims on behalf of Radda.

The rescued victims, all female, were kidnapped at different times from Karaduwa, Sayaya, Dangani and Wawar-Kaza communities of Matazu, Musawa and Kankara Local Government Areas.

One of the victims, Firdausi Bishir, a 13-year-old JSS two student, said that she was abducted from Sayaya and had spent 91 days at the bandits’ den.

She thanked the Almighty Allah, who in His infinite mercy, the soldiers were able to rescue them.

The girl also thanked the governor for giving them the money to establish businesses after returning to their homes.

PhonesIXPN Boosts Internet Connectivity 8th February 2024 by Paraman(op): 12:20pm On Feb 08, 2024
The Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria has officially activated its Point of Presence at OADC Lagos, which is owned and operated by Open Access Data Centres, one of Africa’s fastest-growing data centre operators.

A POP primarily refers to a location, facility or access point that connects to and helps other devices establish connections to the internet.

According to IXPN, this makes activation easier for service providers operating within the Lekki site to interconnect, while new and existing customers will have additional options for connecting to IXPN.

With the activation at the OADC facility, IXPN is now available at seven data centres, making it the only IXP accessible from all the major data centres operating in Lagos, the firm said in a statement.

IXPN is equally available in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, and Gombe.

“We are happy to announce that our Point of Presence is now live at OADC Lagos,” the Chief Executive Officer of IXPN Rudman Mohammed said, explaining that the idea behind the activation of its POP at OADC is to give IXPN’s members the opportunity to be in all the data centres in Lagos.

He said with the activation, IXPN services are now available and accessible to all network providers, providing them with affordable services and the opportunity to connect at multiple points.

“We want to be available and accessible to all service providers, and that’s why we’re expanding our tentacles to every major data centre in Lagos and as well as in other states” he added.

According to IXPN, it plans to expand its reach and connect all service providers by establishing points of presence in various states across Nigeria.

The firm added that those plans, when completely executed, would serve to transform Nigeria’s digital connection environment and, ultimately, fulfil the growing demand for seamless and high-performance internet connectivity for all citizens.

The Chief Executive Officer of Open Access Data Centres, Ayotunde Coker, remarked that the activation would aid OADC’s pursuit to offer its customers secured connectivity and cutting-edge services.

He said OADC was rapidly creating a leading, vibrant interconnect and peering ecosystem to leverage its proximity and interconnection with all cable landing stations and major data centres in the region.

“In an environment where businesses are switching to cloud-based and internet-centric technology, we believe that the activation of IXPN’s POP at OADC Lagos will provide cloud, content providers and enterprises with increased availability of their data and expanded connectivity, which will ultimately open up new possibilities for creativity,” he assured.
