The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Usman, has stated that the authority will immediately commence the recruitment of younger professionals into the service in view of the ageing workforce. Usman made the disclosure at a news conference to round off her ongoing tour of Calabar port, which ended on Friday. According to her, there is a lot of skills and knowledge that need to be transfered and we should be able to transfer knowledge and skills. Usman said that the authority would embark on recruitment drive and look at the organisational structure to determine how the recruitment would be carried out. She said that the management was looking at succession planning and recruitment of people. "We encourage every member of the public to be on the look-out for the advertisement of vacancies and to apply," Miss Usman said. The West African Examinations Council has officially announced the release of the May/June 2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results. Speaking during a press conference in Lagos, the Head of National Office (HNO), Mr. Isaac Adenipekun, said that a total of 1,552,758 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 1,544,234 sat for the exam. He said that 825,650, representing 53.5% were male while 718,585, representing 46.5% were female. In a breakdown of the results, a total of 1,393,907 candidates, representing 90.26% have their results fully released while 158,718 candidates, representing 9.74% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors mainly traceable to the candidates and schools in the course of registration or writing the examination. Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released subsequently. A total of 878,040 candidates, representing 52.97%, obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics. The HNO added that there was a significant improvement in the performance of candidates when compared with the results of 2014 and 2015 examinations. Speaking on the performance of blind candidates, Mr. Adenipekun, said that 133 visually challenged candidates registered for and sat for the examination from which 23 candidates, representing 17.29% got credits in 5 subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. With the conclusion of the 2016 JAMB UTME, we at Campus Portal Nigeria have compiled the list of most sought after universities. Out of the over 140 universities in Nigeria, the University of Ilorin emerged as the most sought after university in the country with a total of 103,238 candidates seeking admission into the institution. The University of Benin followed in second place with 81,363 applicants with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in third place with 75,383 candidates. The 4th, 5th, and 6th most popular higher institutions are University of Nigeria, Nsukka [65,954], Bayero University, Kano [64,220] and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka [61,862] candidates respectively. The University of Lagos placed seventh with 60,659 candidates while University of Ibadan came eight with 59,176 candidates. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife was in ninth position with 45,924 candidates and the University of Jos completed the top 10 with 40,366 candidates. In the private university category, Covenant University, Ota; Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti; Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo; and Igbinedion University, Okada, occupied the first four positions with 2,586; 1,304, 1,248 and 418 candidates respectively. The University of Port Harcourt wishes to invite candidates who chose the University as their first choice in the 2016 JAMB UTME and who had a minimum score of 180 to apply for the 2016/2017 Post-UTME Screening Exercise.
