The Federal Ministry of Education invites interested and qualified Nigerians to participate in the 2016/2017 Nomination Interview for Bilateral Education Agreement, BEA Scholarship Award for:

i) Undergraduate (UG) studies tenable in Russia, Morocco, Algeria, Serbia, Hungary, Egypt, Turkey, Cuba, Romania, Ukraine, Japan, Macedonia; and

Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA) Awards are scholarship awards made to eligible Nigerian youths after due process by development partners who have entered into Bilateral Educational agreement with Nigeria. The West African Examination Council (WAEC), has released the long awaited November/December 2015 General Certificate Examination (GCE) result.

Announcing the release of the results at a news conference in Lagos, the Head, National Office of the Council, Mr. Isaac Adenipekun, said of the total 237,154 candidates who sat for the examinations, 235,542 candidates, representing 99.32% have their results fully processed and released.

He said 1,612 candidates, representing 0.68%, have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors, traceable mainly to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination. Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates have their results.

On the performance of candidates, Mr. Adenipekun said that 79,490 candidates, representing 33.51% obtained 6 credits and above; 113,573 candidates, representing 47.88% obtained 5 credits.

In addition, 146,253 candidates, representing 61.67% obtained credits and above in 4 subjects, while 175,718 candidates, representing 74.09% obtained credits and above in 3 subjects. A total of 200,304 candidates (84.46%) obtained credits and above in 2 subjects.

The new WAEC HNO, who is announcing his first result, commended all the supervisors, invigilators, custodians, security agencies and other ad-hoc personnel for their commitment and dedication to duty during the conduct of the examination.

He added that the results have been uploaded online and can be accessed on the WAEC result checking website 24hrs from the time of this publication.

III. DEPARTMENT OF BANKING AND FINANCE

Lecturer II/Lecturer I/Senior Lecturer: Applicants must possess Bachelor, Master and Ph.D Degrees in relevant disciplines from a recognised university. Applicants must be able to teach at least two of the following elective:
Applicants must be competent to teach Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Bank Lending and Credit Administration, Banking Laws and Regulations. In addition, applicants must be able to teach at least two of the following elective courses:

Monetary and Finance Policy
Quantitative Methods & Research Methodology
Investment Analysis & Capital Market
Financial Management & Financial Statement Linkages
Corporate Policy and Strategy

A minimum of 3 years post doctoral teaching experience in a tertiary level institution is required for Lecturer I applicants and a minimum of 6 years post doctoral teaching experience in a tertiary level institution for Senior Lecturer applicants. Evidence of scholarly publications is required for Lecturer I and Senior Lecturer applicants.

IV. DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING

Lecturer II/Lecturer I/Senior Lecturer: Applicants must possess Bachelor, Master and Ph.D Degrees in relevant or related fields from a recognised university. Applicants must be able to teach at least two of the following elective courses:

Quantitative Methods & Research Methodology
Audit & Assurance
Strategic Financial Management
Public Sector Accounting
International Accounting and Risk Management
Forensic Accounting
Corporate Policy & Strategy
Business Strategy and Corporate Governance
Human Resources Accounting
Environmental Accounting.
Evidence of relevant professional qualifications will be an added advantage.

A minimum of 3 years post doctoral teaching experience in a tertiary level institution is required for Lecturer I applicants and a minimum of 6 years post doctoral teaching experience in a tertiary level institution for Senior Lecturer applicants. Evidence of scholarly publications is required for Lecturer I and Senior Lecturer applicants.

V. DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOGNOSY

Assistant Lecturer/Lecturer II: Applicants for the position of Lecturer II should have qualifications registrable with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) and should have registered for Ph.D in
Pharmacognosy (Phytochemistry Option).
Applicants with a good Master Degree in Pharmacognosy and registered for Ph.D in Pharmacognosy (Tissue Culture Option) may be considered for the position of Assistant Lecturer.

VI. Associate Programme Officer - Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics & Law

The successful candidate for the position is expected, under the supervision of the Director of the
Centre, to:

1) work in close collaboration with the Centre’s senior management team and assist the Programme Officer in integrating and coordinating services among program modules involving both internal and external teaching staff;
provide support to the Programme Officer in the day-to-day management of the programme, create and maintain databases in ACCESS and EXCEL on an ongoing basis, which are used in the daily management of the programme, as well as for outcome assessment, retention and strategic planning reports; database development and management tasks, such as creating and updating mailing lists , make suggestions for improvement and enhancement of database, pay meticulous attention to detail in gathering course schedules and course descriptions from all units of the programme and maintaining database record of them; develop monitor and update web page and assist in enhanced technological linkages between the students and faculty;

2) assist with the design, uploading and maintenance of the Centre’s Web page, develop and execute comprehensive PR, Media, web and online projects to support and strengthen the Centre’s branding, recruitment and retention strategies, partner with the Director in crisis and reputation management, write, edit and produce collateral material used in the promotion of the Centre to students, Faculty, staff, alumni, parents and the public;

3) develop and review all reports about program activities, statistics, grant applications etc, prepare research reports, policy briefs and other publication of the centre. provide support to the Centre’s management in organising workshops and conferences in areas relevant to the centre;
establish and maintain alumni activities for the centre and perform other supporting roles assigned by the Director and the management of the centre.

Qualifications, Experience and Salary:

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree (A master’s degree would be an added advantage) in a Social Science, Science or Humanities based discipline, with (1) year professional editorial experience, working with both print and web, have exceptional writing, communication and editing skills, be able to work efficiently on multiple tasks to deadline, interact well with the entire staff of the Centre, be able to work independently or with a team.
Applicants must also possess strong research skills, including proofreading and editing ability, have strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and database management and must be able to work flexible hours (many events are held over breakfast or in the evening).

Salary package starts from N840,000.00 (Eight hundred and forty thousand naira) per annum. Other performance based bonuses are attached to the job.

Conditions of Service: The appointment is on contract basis and is not pensionable. The successful candidate will be expected to assume duty as quickly as possible.

He's saying women are distractions

All eyes were on 23-year-old Sadiq Olayinka Olamide, who emerged the best graduating student at the Convocation ceremony of the University of Ibadan (UI), held last month.

Sadiq, who graduated with First Class honours in Veterinary Medicine, received a total of 31 awards, ranging from overall Faculty and Department best to best in 28 other subject areas.

In an interview, the Iragbiji, Osun State-born scholar said that getting to this level was not by accident, as he had been coming tops in most exams from primary school up to the university.

He continued; "And when I gained admission into this university six years ago and got my bearing right as an undergraduate, I never looked back. I gave my studies deserved attention"

"I must also say that I didn’t entertain any form of distractions not even from friends or the opposite sex. I did not attend social functions anyhow and I did not also have any girlfriend or what you may refer to as a lover because I knew having one would come with distraction here and there. So, I married my book by concentrating on my studies and I thank God for crowning my effort with success", he said.

Sadiq, who also acknowledged the strong support and cooperation of his parents and family members towards his studies and other needs, however argued that it was like 24 hours of the day were not enough for students studying veterinary medicine particularly in UI because of the enormous work that the course required.

It will be recalled that the University of Ibadan graduated 2,362 students during the convocation ceremony with 53 of them bagging First Class degrees.

Big shoes to fill. Mr. Eguridu really did well in office.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has appointed Mr. Olutise Isaac Adenipekun as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office. He succeeds Mr. Charles Eguridu who has retired from the services of the Council.

Until his appointment as Head of National Office, Adenipekun was the Zonal Coordinator, WAEC Zonal Office, Ibadan. He assumed office on December 9th, 2015.

Adenipekun, who hails from Ere-Ijesa, Ilesa in Osun State, was born on March 5th, 1960. He attended St. Stephen Primary School, Ere-Ijesa and Ijebu-Jesa Grammar School, Ijebu-Jesa.

He graduated from the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife) in 1983 with a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Political Science. He also obtained an M.Sc degree in International Relations from the same university in 1987 and in 2012 he got a Masters in Public Administration (M.P.A) in Management of Educational Institutions from the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.

Mr. Adenipekun is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (FCAI) and a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM). He has also attended several professional and management courses both in Nigeria and overseas.
