The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has announced the general cut-off mark for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions in the country for 2020/2021 Academic Session.

According to JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, who made this known during the policy meeting on admissions to tertiary institutions in Nigeria on Tuesday, the minimum score for admission seekers into public universities is set at 160 while that of polytechnics is pegged at 120 with that of colleges of education set at 100.

The JAMB Registrar said 612,557 candidates were offered admission in 2019 out of the 1.8m that wrote the examination while about 510,957 admission spaces were unused by tertiary institutions in 2019.

Oloyede, said admission into all universities would be conducted on Central Admission Processing System and that candidates waiting for their results will only be considered when they are uploaded on its website.

In his remarks, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, directed JAMB and tertiary institutions to proceed with the conduct of 2020/2021 admissions. He said admission processes are expected to commence in August based on the guidelines released by JAMB.

The minister appealed to JAMB and tertiary institutions to consider candidates with previous years’ Senior School Certificate Examination and other qualifying results for the admission process.

He said the government will make an arrangement to accommodate applicants who will be taking the examination when the opportunity to do so is worked out.

EducationUNN Suspends 15 Staff For Sexual Harassment And Admission Racketeering by Parkac(op): 12:48am On Oct 12, 2019
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Management has suspended no fewer than fifteen (15) members of staff for their alleged involvement in various cases of job, admission racketeering and sexual harassment.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the university, Chief (Dr) Okwun Omeaku, on Friday in Nsukka.

According to Omeaku, the suspension is a bold statement of the current university administration’s zero tolerance for corruption, misconduct and amoral behaviours among staff and students.

He said the administration of Prof. Charles Igwe will not fail to take decisive action on any staff or student whose action will drag the hallowed image of the university to the mire.

The PRO also warned that the eagle is still watching and many people are on the radar and more actions will be taken on those found wanting.

EducationRe: Can UNN Admit A 15 Years Old Candidate? by Parkac(m): 8:09am On Aug 12, 2019
UNN does not require birth certificate for Post UTME screening. During clearance, if eventually her name comes out in the admission list, birth certificate will be needed for her file. Doesn't necessarily mean they will screen her out because there are alot of candidates who got admission in UNN under 16 years old.

Don't even contemplate falsifying her age on birth certificate at this time. It's already captured in WAEC database. The discrepancy will be an issue after graduation and NYSC.

Peter Obi and Figures: the issue of cars on Nigerian Roads

Mr. Peter Obi is attracted to figures as bees are to honey. It is one area he does not go wrong. As the Governor, he had four different sizes of calculators on his table. It was common to see him correcting innocent errors of figures on memos submitted to him, especially those above what they should be. As for those below what they should be, he took them as part of saving money for the state.

A few months ago, he quoted the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, whereupon the Presidency accused him of bandying wrong figures. He went to the extent of quoting UBEC as his source. The controversy raged until I published the link where the UBEC boss gave that figure.

Yesterday, he said that Nigeria had 2m+ cars on the road. Some people questioned the figure, showing us the records from Bureau of Statistics. Obi was talking of number of active vehicles plying our roads and not those parked in the houses or elsewhere.

Many rich Nigerians have over 15 vehicles parked in their houses out of which they put an average of three on the road. Many vehicles are still uncleared in the wharfs, many are in the market seeking buyers. 2m+ are actively on the roads.

Peter Obi is very correct in the figure that he gave.
