Like other confraternities and secret societies, NBM use specific symbols, abbreviations, expressions and clothing items, many of which are kept secret: Axe: The axe is the symbol of NBM. Because of its shape it is also referred to as "7". The often used code "147" means "one for seven" = one for (Black) Axe/NBM. Axes are also part of the regalia worn by members. B***k A*e: This is a metamorphosis of the first name of the movement "Black Barracards". The name was changed to "" then finally , even though it remains the inofficial name. "" also became the name of the magazine published by the movement. This again was changed to "Uhuru Magazine" later. Axeman: Members of NBM refer to each other as axemen (or alternatively lord, bam, amigos, wise/strong men). Lord: a graduate member. Aye: a campus member, also known as "Temple Aye". Those are known for gang wars, cult killings and rape at Nigerian universities. The term "aye" is also used as a greeting among members. Aye is an abbreviation of "African Youth Empowerment". Temple (T): Nigerian university where new cult members are recruited (see list below). Murder Temple: often falsely called Mother Temple. It means the Futa Jallon Temple, aka University of Benin. The term refers to the crisis that occurred at the birth on NBM at the said university, the murder of one of the founders who turned out to be a traitor (see below). Blending/Bamming: initiation into the cult. Bam is also used as an expression of approval ("you bam" ![]() Jollification/Jolly: gathering of members (also for initiation), parties. There is talk about jus and virgins having been sacrificed at jollies. LP ("Elpee" : Jolly song.Zone: a local group of NBM. There are zones in Nigerian states and in many countries worldwide, often with subdivisions Ju/jew (name): someone who has not been initiated / real name. Injew: member of a different cult group Tingo/Bird: member of the Eiye confraternity (Airlords), the rival cult hated most by NBM Strong name (SN): name given at initiation, "Aye/Lord" plus usually the name of an African freedom fighter, dictator or terrorist, for example "Lord Muammar Gadhaffi". In all communications among members the strong name is used. Clothing: Members of the confraternity have a uniform of sorts that consists of black, white and yellow clothing (black trousers, white shirt, yellow tie, yellow ribbon on cap) which symbolizes the following: Black signifies identification with the black race and the dignity thereof, white signifies peace and purity of mind and body, yellow signifies intellect. The color of the regalia depends on the rank of a member. Uhuru: alleged goal of NBM, meaning “freedom” in Swahili. Egede: Originally used for the greeting with the clash of forearms, more recently also used for drums. Dodorima: Dodorima in Igbo language refers to honesty, straightforwardness, intelligence, hard working, etc. It has become the culture of NBM members to say, "Dodorima/Dodos to you". This entails praises and adoration given to a particular person based on something he did. Orientation (OT): Knowledge about the "movement" or acquiring such knowledge. Janet: Term used for punishment, especially beating with a cane or whip. According to NBM legend Janet was a girlfriend of one of the founders. She is said to have betrayed the "movement" and to have been beheaded for that reason like Charles Kokoma Kokoma: drink containing various ingredients and drugs such as weed, kola nut, zobo leaf, alligator pepper, tomtom, panadol. It is prepared by the Chief Priest and used at initiation of new members. An oath is sworn with Kokoma: should the initiated member ever betray NBM, Kokoma is thought to squeeze life out of him. NBM legend also has it that a certain Charles Kokoma was one of the founders of NBM but betrayed the "movement" and was then beheaded by the others (even though this name does not appear on the official list of founders). Therefore beheading is today seen as the appropriate punishment for one who betrays the "movement" and leaks its secrets. Korofo (Krf): “the cult of the underground” (Yoruba religion). Korofo is often referred to in NBM (“may Korofo squeeze the life out of them” / “Korofo on guard”) http://self.gutenberg.org/articles/neo_black_movement_of_africa |

By Omoruan Oseo John Published on 01/09/2018 This book, “MY CAMPUS CULT DIARY”, conveys the ideas and understanding that came from my observation and reflections. The book is an independent and original research in which the frontiers of knowledge on the topic have been investigated and extended. The sole purpose of the book is to contribute to the demystification of the problems, by challenging old myth with new fact. This book was not written to serve as a text book for students, as some tertiary institutions lecturers had erroneously concluded, rather it is intended to be a collection of information about the campus cult menace for those in government, school administration, students and parents. I do hope the readers view it from that perspective. The book deals with the story of a medical student who joined the campus cults and how his life took a spiral downwards turn for the worst. The story reveals the fears, frustrations and set-backs that are the daily companion of the average Nigerian tertiary institution cult member. The life and times of Sanu Sumah showed that the cult member was a victim in an organized crime gang. The story also showed what the average Nigerian cult member goes through in our tertiary institutions in trying to acquire a degree. The book has critically looked at the relationship between the Campus Cults and the youthanize belligerent problem in Nigeria, the mindless looting of the treasury of the nation, and the realization that there would be no end to the youthanize belligerent problem in Nigeria until the leaders of the country start having milk of human kindness. This book deals extensively on five major campus confraternities of old, namely; the Pyrates, Buccaneers, Eiye, and the Mafia Confraternities and arrived at the conclusion that it was only the substructure operations of the Mafia Confraternity that could have succeeded in mobilizing mass support in communal upheaval. Therefore, this investigation dealt more on the mode of operation of thesubstructure operations of the Family Fraternity and its resultant fall-out into splinter groups in Youthanize belligerent problems in Nigeria. In the early 2000s, the tertiary institutions and the Federal Government were competing against themselves in deceiving the whole nation on the issue of the campus cult’s menace. These tertiary institutions were busy collecting millions of naira from the government by parading some third rated ‘actors’ on the television as repentant campus cult members. They paraded these actors cum campus cult members with guns, machetes, knives and even grenades, and the other entire arsenal that the authorities could assemble on television to deceive the general public that they were succeeding in its war to eradicate the tertiary institutions of the menace of the Campus Cults, but actually what they were doing was insulting the sensibilities of the Cult members. |
This a story by someone Today I found out about something that made me very sad. So last week I met this very nice guy, although he was not my type of guy (cause I am into fair guys) I was very attracted to him. He had a nice house, a well-paid job and a good ride (not that it is important to me anyway). He has been asking me out and I thought I should give him a chance, but I found out he is a cultist which threw me off balance, I have not had a good experience with people who belong to a cult group. Let me tell you a story. When I got admission into the university, I met a guy in school, he was totally my type, he was fair, handsome and looked decent. Although we had not spoken to each other before, one could tell we liked each other a lot, his friends knew and my friends knew. He seemed like the shy type who will never ask a girl out and was always quick to look away whenever I caught him looking at me. So, one day, I was with my friends in the school mini-mart and he was also there with his friends. I could hear them urging him to come speak to me, they were saying “Go tell her, she likes you too” Hearing that, I became so nervous and wanted to leave the mini-mart as quick as possible. I then heard his voice call my name, without even thinking I walked away from him, till this day I can not explain why I did that. When we came back for the second semester of my year one, I noticed his choice of friends had changed, he started hanging around with the wrong type of crowd in school and I avoided him, but for how long? I never knew he had something in store for me. One Tuesday evening, after I was through with my lectures, I was walking a lonely partway home when I got dragged into a bush nearby, not knowing who or what was happening, I started to scream. “Shut up joor, or else we go finish you for here,” a voice said to me. Scared and nervous I did what was asked of me; I was surrounded by three boys and they took me to a nearby tree in the bush. “What do you want”? I asked in a very scared voice but I got no answer from them. After some minutes, my crush came to the bush, I was shocked to see him there. ” You look surprised,” he said as he laughed “Why have you brought me here”? I asked ” You know why” he replied “You embarrassed me He told me of how he was determined to get me after I had embarrassed him that day at the school’s mini-mart, he stated that he had to join a cult gang because they promised him a lot of perks if he belonged. After his explanation, he asked me out but I turned him down, feeling very bitter and upset he threatened to kill anyone that I would later date in the school before letting me go. Well, of course, I did not take him seriously and thought he was bluffing not until he attacked a guy I was getting to know that same semester and had one day showed up in my lodge, on a day one a couple of friends and my roommate’s seminarian friend came to visit us. Ever since then, I stayed away from boys and relationships till I graduated from school and I have never wanted to come in contact with any guy that was involved in cultism |

Pascopele:Emma later joined a cult group in 300L, I knew the day he was going to pay his school fees, he coincidentally met me that day and said, Emma: Pasco, I wan go pay school fess o! Pasco: You never pay school fess since, omo you go pay penalty/fine o, pretending not to know what he was saying Emma: he laughed at me Bros, you be real Jew, I don enter the game.Pasco: Emma, why? Emma: Bros I hate oppression plus I wan be made man get connection for life, with this kind result wey me dey get for this school, they go upgrade am for me. Pasco: I held him by the had and headed for the school orchard, and took my time to explain the dangers of new found "game" and the end of such adventure is destruction. Emma: Pasco! Pasco!! Pasco!!! No thing dey happen for this school them never reach. Piko was no longer sleeping in the room Dr. K na started sleeping in his bed. I suspect he became a cultist because, when I was obtained close to SUG building at night, I ran into him few meters away from the crime scene, I saw the shock on his face, and he said, Bros them Rob you! Them Rob me too o! he never stayed in the school hostel and moved to ekosodin second semester100L fa! Class mates Douglass Stephen Jude Efe Godwin GT Roland Roland was never regular in class, today it is one issue or the other. One bright morning, afters months of not seeing Roland in calss, he was limping and bruises on his face and I asked, 'Rolly, wetin happen?" He replied, "Bros, I get accidents when I was returning from school from home". I proved further, "how e take happen?". He replied, Bros forget o, thank God say I dey alive, you for no even see me talkless of asking me all these questions. Right away I knew he was lying, because Roland don blend, after that day you hardly see Roland in Class or school. He was always looking unkempt and unsafe as if someone was after his life. Douglas was from Agbor, in Delta had a tattoo already on his arm, was very good friend with Onyi, a kegite member and I have always suspected him (Onyi) to be a cultist. Douglas was the type that sees trouble and put his head into it. e.g, Two friends may be fighting and he will go there and carry the matter on his head, he was very good friend with Stephen, but Stephen in 300L, said he does not understand Doggy as he was fondly called again. He explain further that doggy hardly stays in his room and most of the time he was never in class nor in school, in fact he left 200 level to stay in ekosodin after serious warning from us not to. Emeka was my sec school mates refused to listened to my advice and went to stay in ekosodin, he was in the mist of them, the hostel were he stayed were all cultist, what happened to me in Auchi happened to him, he own remain small, he would have joined because I remember when came to meet me in the hostel and called me by my native name and said he would like to see me in the evening, I knew right away, there was problem, after reminding him how he suffered to get the admission (Part-time), Nobody tell am make him park enter Technical. Godwin, Efe and GT grew up in Edo state and are very knowledgeable about this cult issues. Jude was tall, dark and huge, they claim nothing wetin him no be. I could recall we were reading in reading room when they matched in and ordered everyone to leave. Jude stood up to leave and a loud voice echoed, "You remain in your seat". According to Jude, the beating no get part 2, the boy that handled him that day, he(Jude) could squeeze life out of him if it was one on one. Jude later joined a rival cult. Few yrs after he joined, he came to meet me and told me to come make him carry me go "jolly". I respectfully decline and subsequently gave him a huge gap. As if he knew he was going to die the day he died, he wore white from the crown of his head to the sole of his feet the day he was shot. #saynotocultism |

Vikings Ex-Cultist Recounts His Dreadful Experience From Initiation Phase. Among the long standing vices of the society ravaging the lives and destinies of its victims is cultism. Even worse is the adverse effect cultist have on the security in academic institutions, the society and other areas in which they operate. “This is my true story and I advise people to learn from this and stay away from cultism. “I was 19 when I got admitted into the Delta State University, Abraka to Study Geology . I had a cousin I had to put up with due to accommodation issues as my parents are poor and couldn’t afford it at the time. “They had to borrow to pay my tuition and acceptance fees. Reading geology was very expensive as I had to pay for field works, books and all other materials. “I struggled through my first year into my second. My cousin then dropped out of school due to financial issues. I was left all alone in Abraka and I made new friends . I had a girlfriend in school then and we call her Joy ( not her real name ). Joy was also dating a cultist ( A member of VIKINGS) . I got a call from Joy that I should come to her hostel and we should pass the night together. She told me she prepared my favorite food and I rushed down like a hungry lion. I got to her house and we had a good time and even had sex. “At around 9pm, I heard a loud bang on her door and I asked who the person was, “YOU DEY CRAZE, NA YOU GET THE ROOM, JOY COME OUTSIDE I WAN SEE YOU”, that was the voice I heard behind the door. I looked at the time and it was late in the night .I picked up my phone to call a friend to come get me as I sensed danger but my phone went dead. I then sat down in the room and she assured me that all is fine. She went out to meet the guy and they argued loudly and some other boys came in and joined them. “The next thing I heard was “Aromate wetin dey happen?”, I immediately knew I was in trouble. She came back in and was shouting at them and screaming from inside,” I no wan friend again, na by force?”. I told her I wanted to leave and she said I shouldn’t leave and that it was safer to stay than go out that night. I told her its better to leave than staying indoors and that they could bugle the door at night pretending to be robbers and shoot me. “I gathered courage and left and immediately I got outside, I saw 5 Fierce looking men and I ran for my life, they chased me and stabbed me , I managed to escape with the injury. The next day, I reported to the police and arrests were made. The police men that came for a raid where also members of the VIKINGS, they made arrests and released them that same day. “I called my brother and narrated all that happened. He brought in police men from Asaba and by then, it was too late as the guys had to leave town. Joy was picked up and she was asked to make her statement. Joy couldn’t spell simple words like come, night, and she doesn’t even understand the word paragraph. “The police man in charge of the case looked at me and said ” SO NA BECAUSE OF THIS GIRL DEM BURST YOUR HEAD, SEE YOUR LIFE.” Two months after the incident, I was sitting outside and about 3 of the Vikings gang members came to me and started threatening me. ” YOU GET MIND ABI, YOU GO CALL POLICE FOR US , WE GO KILL YOU TODAY. ” “They attacked me and injured me for the second time. I rushed back to the police station and some of the vikings police came to me and I explained all that happened. ” LEAVE THAT GIRL ALONE,YOU NO DEY HEAR WORD , YOU GO JUST KILL YOUSELF ” I told them I no longer date the girl and also narrated what happened and the reason for the second attack was that I reported to the police. “I immediately got a lawyer and we copied the police commissioner and also the divisional police officer of Abraka police station. They threat increased, I started getting death threats from them and even civil defense members who where part of the Vikings gang started threatening me . I then ran to the school hostel to stay with a friend. “I stayed with a friend for 2 months and then I ran into an old friend and I explained everything to him, he then said I should meet him up at a popular bush bar in Abraka in the night and they will help me. I visited him at night at the bar and I met other guys sitting down with him and I greeted them. I purchased drinks for them and explained everything that happened. They then ask me to go back home to stay and they will see me the next day. “I went back home and the Vikings cultist came around and said I should go and pay for the drinks they took for two weeks. I resisted and they started slapping me. I had no choice than to pay. I also fetched water for them that night .The next day, my friend came around with the other guys, they came around and warned them never to touch me again or collect money from me. Argument started between them and the next thing I heard was AYEE (Cultist), immediately the Vikings gang members started leaving the scene till they left completely. I was surprised , and one of them said to me ” WE NO GO FIT HELP YOU DO ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU BE JU.” How my journey to cultism started “Two weeks after my friend came with his cult members and warned the Viking cultists to stay clear from my path, a serious war came up between Vikings and the cult group. I was in school and I had just finished lecture in Petrology when a friend told me two Vikings cultists where shot dead just outside the school gate and they where among the Vikings that terrorized me. I was shocked and I refused leaving the school premises even after we finished all lectures for the day, I fear like mad. My friend called me and asked of my whereabout, I told him I was still in school READING (READING BAWO0). “He rushed down immediately with some guys and took me to Asaba as members of the Vikings confraternity were looking for me because they concluded that I was a cultist, a member of the . To avoid mistaken identity, I had to run with him. I was in Asaba for three weeks and the fight was still on. A police man was also shot dead as he was a member of the vikings cult group. One of the members received a call in the morning of the next day and the call came from his girl friend, Vikings cult group got a hold of the girl and they threatened to kill her if she doesn’t reveal the whereabout of his boyfriend. The Axe man became furious and started shouting “WHO DEM BE WEY MAKE THEM DEY THREATEN MY CR, BLOODY BAGAS!” “He then made a call to his fellow in Obiaruku that he needs guns and pellet, instead they provided him with shotgun and cartridges . He left for Obiaruku to pick them up and headed straight to Abraka to fight the boys. He calls himself, one man squad and he was respected among the cultists. Immediately he got to Abraka, he made some calls to some of his men still in town and they told him to come to campus 3 main gate. “Immediately he got to the main gate, three men came in a bike and shot him dead in front of the main gate and that was how he ended up. We later discovered the whole thing was a setup and his girl was a cultist, a member of viqueens and they used her to set him up. My exam was fast approaching and no end in sight to the war and my absence from my hostel made it look like I was a cultist as the vikings member where looking for me. “A week to my exam, they called for a peace talk and the matter was settled with cash for all the lives lost. I came back and wrote my exams after missing classes and attendance registers. My CGPA dropped drastically from 4.6 to 4.2 . returned to campus and things normalized. Immediately after the exam. I got a call from my axe friend that the girl the Vikings members used for the setup was dead ” HOW FAR PADDY, WE DON DROP THAT GIRL WEY SET JUNIOR UP” They followed her home, tied her hands and legs to her reading chair and inserted boiling ring inside her private part and she fried up and died in her room. “Time came for one man squad to be buried. I attended the burial ceremony and met other . They observed a ceremony known as “Breaking of Metal” This is a ceremony strictly for fallen and also a time to pay final respect. I heard words like “OBOTE , OBINNA, OBI OF AGBOR, YOU GO LOOSEGUARD YOUR BACK FOR FIRE” I asked the meaning and my friend said he couldn’t tell me the meaning of those words since I was a ju man. He said its called gross misconduct if you reveal NBM orientation to a ju (junior boy). We got home and I still begged to know the meaning of those words, he then told me in private saying the words , OBOTE, OBI , OBINNA means the same thing and it means, an axe man who is or was careless with his life. They blamed him for attempting to go for the HIT alone. “I left for holidays and came back to campus after a month for resumption. My friend then came up to me with a guy. They came to my house and they talked about sharing formula and all that in percentage terms. After the other guy left, I asked for my share and he said he will give me a little from it and I was happy. He said the other guy that came with him was a Vikings cultist but they are good friends and business partners, I was shocked and asked if it was not the same Vikings cult group that killed his best friend Aruba . He laughed and said ” FORGET THAT MATTER, NA MONEY WE DEY FIND, WHO DIE DON DIE ” “He then said I should follow him to his hostel to get some things. We got to his room and I saw a pair of yellow stockings, they were new pairs and I pleaded to have them, he then gave me the stockings and told me to wear them . I started wearing yellow stockings to school and all around town without understanding the implications of my actions. I wore them to beach a very cool sunny Sunday and a guy who was apparently a cultist, walked up to me and called me out from my pairs. I followed him and he asked me a particular question ” HOW FAR PADDY, YOU DEY PLAY 7 ? ” I was confused and I replied him instantly , Bros I no understand wetin be 7. “The next thing I felt was a loud slap , I held my cheek and asked: ME: Wetin i do na GUY: You dey craze, commot the socks from your leg ME: But na socks na and why you come slap me? GUY: You dey craze abi? You dey ask me stupid question abi? “I received a blow straight to my nose and before iI could regain myself, I was bleeding so fast. They collected my phone, wallet and I had school fees scratch cards in my wallet. My guys took me to a nearby pharmacy and I was treated. I hurried up to see my friend to explain what happened to him. I met him at home and explained everything to him, he was mad and angry and went straight to the beach the next day. We got to the beach and we couldn’t find the guys, they disappeared with my phone and school fees card. He then started making calls but I couldn’t retrieve my items. “IF TO SAY YOU BE STRONG MAN NA, ALL THIS THINGS FOR NO HAPPEN TO YOU.” He said. “I left school for home for proper medical care as my nose was swollen. I came back to campus after a week and the cultist that took my wallet saw me again at a bar with a friend and ordered me to get them drinks. I had just 2k on me and I used that to order them drinks. I sneaked out to call my friend and to let him know the guys that collected my phone are with me, ” WETIN YOU WANT MAKE I DO? MAKE I GO MEET EGEDE MEN COLLECT YOUR THINGS BACK? YOU BE JU OOO MY GUY AND I NO FIT COLLECT YOUR THINGS BACK FOR YOU, IF TO SAY NA EIYE OR VIKINGS COLLECT AM, I FOR TRY COLLECT THEM BACK FOR YOU BUT NA MY BROTHERS COLLECT AM AND SO I NO FIT HELP YOU GUY, TRY UNDERSTAND ME ” I felt so bad and weak and left the bar. “The next day, I called my friend and told him I was ready to be a cultist, a member of the . He jumped up and said, “na now you dey talk.” He said, I need to get the form and the form will cost me 15k. I told him to give me time to raise funds and he agreed. I was able to raise the funds and I gave it to him, ” CORRECT MAN, YOU GO GIVE ME BLACK AND WHITE PASSPORT, NO WORRY, I GO SOON CARRY YOU ENTER JOLLY” he uttered. Nigerians have worked hard to earn their reputation for being corrupt internet scammers. No thanks to Huspuppi, Invictus & Co., The poorly written emails suggest a substandard educational system, or at least poor English teaching resources in Nigeria. Outside of the frequent emails from unfortunate Nigerian princes. The Nigerian criminal element has persuaded many foreigners to stay away from Nigeria or perceived us ALL to be thieves. Most of them are not familiar with any positive attributes of Nigerians. Kindly share you experience as a Nigeria Abroad It is no lies that the hustle to get out of this country is getting realer by the day but as a result of fraud it becoming tougher by the day. I want to use this opportunity to invite our Bros and sis to come and enlighten us about their stories because this is Nigeria and everybody have got stories. Boitumelo Dube, is a South African acquinatance and used to stay in Sunnyside Pretoria, aka Lagos. below is what she said about us " I have a good number of wonderful friends, colleagues and acquaintances from West Africa that I met during university days, that I met now professionally as colleagues and clients, those people I know socially and I can safely say my former neighbouring was 50% West Africans. My view of Nigerians are the following, in no particular order: -They are well spoken: yes there's pidgin but most Nigerians are eloquent and expressive sometimes a bit over-the-top; -They are quite industrious: but can also be cut-throat and unethical in business; -They have a wonderful reputation of being scammers and conmen and this one is felt globally. Yahoo boys, email fraud etc; -Nigerians are well travelled and will explore any avenue to make money elsewhere which is wonderful. But I do think it's partially because of their adventurous and get-it spirit and coupled by the fact that millions of Nigerians are desperate to leave Nigeria for a better life somewhere else. And most don't want to go back or they take long years to visit family. I know a guy who's been here for 20 years and hasn't visited, issues of papers, lack of money etc basically excuses I know damn well he has money and can easily fix his papers. His mother has been begging for years -I loooooove the West African diet. Omg the food is soooo good and tasty, I've had many many soup dishes, jollof with all kinda meat. I'm a foodie and love hot food so it makes sense; -I love Nigerian music. I listen to a mix of Asa, Mr Eazi with the delicious lips, Timaya, Harry Songs, Runtown whose just so fiiiiine, a few Davido tracks, love Tiwa and Wizkid; -Nigerians have their many tribal prejudices and discriminatory attitudes but will come together against an outsider; -I like the accent and Nollywood; the plots, plot- twist and magic im here for all that lol; -Nigerians pride themselves in their sexual prowess; I mean I cannot even tell you the number of times I've been promised a great time in bed. Funny thing is I've never been in a sexual relationship with a Nigerian man, which is weird because I mean Nigerian men are hot. They just extremely economical with the truth and imcredible womanizers; -Nigerians dont like parting ways with money, when they do they'll negotiate to the lowest possible amount, I wanted to visit Nigerian for 2 weeks this Feb., 2020 until I found out they dont have stable electricity supply, I don't want to be trapped in a whole new country and be confined to a hotel room because the city is dark at night. I wanna be out and about hanging out with people soaking in the culture". |
We raise our kids the best way we can but there comes a time when they decide to walk their own path. Most times that’s great; sometimes it’s a worry. If their choice differs from our own perhaps the best thing we can do is to stand aside and continue to love them. If they later have second thoughts we are then in a position to offer support. This question reminded me of the little Catholic girl who shocked a nun by saying she wanted to be a prostitute when she grew up. When she repeated it the nun said, “Thank goodness! I thought you said you wanted to be a Protestant.” Kindly click on my link on my bio for GIVEAWAY!!!!!!!! |
