Your mother will need to qualify on her own merits, although it is possible for another person to pay for a trip. She will need to explain to the officer her purpose of travel and clearly detail her ties to Nigeria. It is sometimes harder for people to qualify for a tourist visa when they have family living in the U.S. as citizens or LPR.

Thanks guys. Finally my mother in law was issued the visa. One thing I learnt is that it pays to be truthful. Everyone I asked told me it would be impossible because I didn't use an agent and that I shouldn't have filled the application the way I did, I should have said she filled the application herself, etc..... I chose to stay on the side of truth even though I lost faith that she would get the visa. But thank God truth prevailed. Same when I applied for mine and my wife, we were told we should have gone through an agent but I never paid a dime to anyone and God did it.

Is it possible to withdraw B1/B2 visa application after submission? There were some mistake I noticed on the application that might cause some issue during the interview. I will want to re-submit the application for my mother-in-law.

Hello VO,

Quick question please. I am currently in US with my family on GC. I wanted to invite my mother-in-law to visit us. I will be sponsoring the travel. I have a very good job and income here and my wife too. Do you think it is a good idea to sponsor the visa considering the fact that we are not citizen yet? Or is it better for someone in Nigeria to sponsor her? What are the prons and cons? Thanks.

I have a first hand experience of this because i also use Stanbic pension. The other poster is right. It is the law not just about the pension manager. The law just changed sometimes last year I think. Before, you can't get anything as long as you retired voluntarily , except your employer chose to convert it to termination instead of voluntary retirement. But now irrespective of the mode of termination as long as you're out of job for a specific period of time you can get only up to 25% until you reach retirement age . You can go back to them if it's being a while you spoke with them. Best of luck.

Be cheerful, till 3 months turns into 6 months then 1 year then 2 years and so on., nice concept tho, I'm just not sure how practical it would be when savings are drying up and responsibilities increasing!

And how does being sad about the current situation prevents this? What will be will be, why not be positive and hope for the best.

And just to mention this for those who can afford it, I used myperfectresume.com to build my resume when I came. I was surprised it worked like magic. All those who saw my resume online always complement it was really good. I mean employers now. Although some of them were initially put off because they are all Nigerian experience in there but at least they would call me to run their opportunities by me. Immediately I was able to get in some US experience in there the rest is history today. Especially for those who have years of experience in Nigeria I would recommend you visit that site it will give you nice options on how to frame your work experiences and even your academic qualification. I still use it up till today.

Happy New year from Massachussetts dear forumites. Just about 3 months here in the state and all I can say is that God has been faithful. I came here very sceptical and somehow afraid of what future holds because I have a manageable job over there in Nigeria

Since I came I have done about 3 different jobs with meager or manageable pay. However God did something wonderful towards the close of the year I got a very juicy offer from a software company as an Analyst. This was similar to what I used to do back in Nigeria, with a better pay now of course.

I just want to use this to encourage someone there that with God all things are possible. Just hang in there and never settle for the less. Don't allow the negative testimony around discourage you we can make it in America and we will make it.

To the glory of God I arrived safely with my family at Chelmsford Massachusetts on thursday. Our POE experience at Washington Dulles was smooth even though we missed our connecting flight from Washington to Boston. When we got to the POE we were told our baby who is 3 months old will need to be issued a visa there. I shared earlier that we had the baby after our visa has been issued, we were just given 2 letters, one to the airline the other to the immigrations at the POe. So based on that a visa was issued for d baby at no cost. Before we could finish all that our flight has gone. But we were re-booked again at no cost.

@Mr Adesoji, pls your help is needed on how to get a job faster. I also need help on what site I can subsribe to on mobile where I can watch live european football matches

MsSantaClaus: I also think they do, my stopover was for 9 hours and they gave me meal voucher , though I asked late, they may have given me a hotel too. Ask before you buy, especially as you have children, it's a long wait.

I am not going to LA I'm going to Boston. But you can easily check on their website @ www.flyemirate.com. It's quite simple. The price will depend on your day of departure. From what I've seen so far, emirate is quite cheaper than other airlines.

Pls house I want to confirm if airlines provide temporary hotel accomodation during stopovers. The emirate I want to book has a stop over of about 19 hours in Dubai and I will be with 2 kids. If there won't be hotel I might have 2 change the flight because of the kids. Pls kindly advice.
