My interview was on 12th of June at Abuja. This evening I got a text that my passport is ready for collection and my status has been changed from AP to Issued.
The account I used wasa company account. The statement balance I submitted was 8M but it was withdrawn within 12days to 99k (so basically they are not after your balance just the authenticity of the account)
PS. I wrote GRE twice and I scored 280 and 286 respectively. V140 Q146 AWA 3.0 God showed up for me when I made my application. I got admitted into MTSU with full funding and a comfortable monthly stipends.
My advice is that you should make that application and let God do the rest. Thank you fellow NairaLanders. Nathaniel bassey's song.....singing... "This God is too good ooo... " |

Jumybecks: I thought I would post this 12 days ago but as God would have it, I could not until now. I have been on 'Administrative Processing' from the day I had my interview (May 30) until today that my visa was finally issued. I interviewed at Abuja and the interview goes thus:
VO: Good morning Me: Good morning and how has been work? VO: Fine thanks. VO: Pass me your passport and I-20 Me: I passed them * the VO looked at my I-20 for like 30 secs VO: So you are going to the University of Arkansas Me: Yes, for my PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology VO: Nods, so tell me about the program at Uni of Arkansas Me: The program is for five years and I will be required to take 42 credits hour in total, 18 for dissertation research and 24 for coursework. A minimum GPA of 3.0 must be maintained every semester * (VO cuts in) VO: how old are you? Me: 2_ years old VO: Are you married? Me: No I am not VO: Any kid? Me: No ma VO: Do you have any postgraduate degree Me: No VO: So you are going straight from BSc to PhD Me: Exactly VO: When did you finish your BSc Me: I graduated in 2015 from Obafemi Awolowo University with a first class degree in** she cuts in (I was trying to sell myself here to provide 'reasons' for the BS to PhD route) VO: Really? Me: Yes really VO: Do you have anything to support that claim? Me: Yes, I passed both my transcript and certificate. ** she looked at my transcript (a student copy but stamped by the registrar) placed on top my certificate. I think the transcript looked somehow to her (If I had known, I would have placed the certificate on top or better still just BSc certificate) VO: Okay, so what have you been doing? Me: I have been working as a research assistant at Obafemi Awolowo University * she cuts in VO: Alright, I will hold on to your passport, I-20 and your certificates. I will verify your certificates and we will get back to you. Me: I was then waiting for white paper but she did not pass any. I then asked, 'ma, how about my white paper'. She looked at me with a big grin (looked sarcastic though). I then smiled and zoomed off before she changes the story.
Thank you to everyone that contributes to this platform. Even though I hardly comment, I visit often to learn from folks with wealth of knowledge. Congrats....more wins!!! |

bigfrancis21: From your premises you should know what your answer is. Take any of the exams for taking sake just to have something to present to the visa officer if asked. Paying N45k for TOEFL or N50k for GRE is cheaper than N57.6k for your second visa interview. My 2 cents. Please where can one get this subsizided fees for these exams at the moment at same rate you said. Thank you. |

learner007: MY STORY IN FULL!!!
On the back of 5 visa denials (admitted into UBC, Canada and visa denied 3times due to insufficient funds, travel history etc plus Cleveland State University - admitted, no GRE, no funding, denied twice last year) I went to the embassy yesterday. Got there about 5:50am for a 7am appointment. After all the checking in, we got on the queue to be interviewed. Windows 1&2 were not available so we sha couple. A VO was speaking Yoruba to aged applicants, it was really funny . Lots of Babcock students were on the queue, all of dem just collecting white paper like kilode Every interviewee had 2 others lined up behind them. The CGI lady sha put me in between 2 queues wen i got to d front. As I tried going to the lady in window 4 in an attempt to avoid a man from interviewing me based on my previous experiences, the lady dragged me back to the guy in window 6. Na so I look up say God Na mercy I need. After he denied the person right in front of me, he beckoned on me. I was like Jesú Klisti ooooooo. Did you mean me or my ancestors Then the long interview started:
VO: Good mrng how are u? Emi: i'm fine thank you sir and you VO: Good, pass me your I-20 and passport Emi: I did VO: *typed For long and finally asked* what school are u attending in the USA Emi: University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign IL VO:What programme Emi: Masters in teaching of mathematics VO: what's your highest level of qualification and what year Emi: BSC Ed maths...2011 VO: So what have you been doing after NYSC Emi: Working as a maths teacher and tutor VO: Did you apply to any other school? Emi: Yes VO: What are their names Emi: UT ARLINGTON, YESHIVA, BGSU VO:HOw many admitted you Emi: All 4 VO: Why UIUC? Emi: UIUC was an easy decision for me because they are very good at maths, the maths programme at UIUC is ranked among the top 20 BEST maths programmes in the USA and also I got a full ride VO: Did u take any tests Emi; Yes I did GRE AND TOEFL VO: What are your scores and let me see ur score sheets Emi: I responded and did as he requested VO: What are the things expected of you as a TA Emi: grading papers, leading small group discussions and stuff VO: Do you have any back up funding plan Emi: Yes, I have been saving up some cash for my dream since a long time and my mum is a strong backup? VO: What does she do Emi: She is into sales and supplies of building materials VO; Are you married? Emi: No VO: Any kids? Emi: Not at all Have you traveled outside Nigeria before Emi: No, I haven't had a reason to travel until now VO: I will be approving your visa...two things, first pick up at the circled location and secondly, don't travel without your I-20 or else you are gonna find ursef in the next flight to Nigeria Emi: I smiled, thanked him and left...I heard everything he said
I thought my interview was gonna be short, but no be so. The guy really drilled me, but I was not tensed at all. He had a super friendly ambience around him. I'm sure he picked few questions from previous denials..eg GRE. If you were on this thread last year, you probably read my denial transcripts under my old moniker 'sshola'. After those denials, I sat back and decided to write GRE and TOEFL and then gun for better schools UIUC and UTA. It really paid off big time. I also decided to be a learner, but a smart one like James Bond (007). Hence my name...learner007. I asked very dumb questions on this platform because I planned to ask my way to a visa approval and people really hit at me but I was trying to be cautious this time around, if u no go, u no know. I want to appreciate a lot of people here. For all visa hopefuls, may you find grace in time of need. My dream has finally come through!!!
Paulbets, walspring, Lagosismyhome, Femi321, Bigfrancis, Scholastica etc
My advice: 1. Dont always follow the path of least resistance, when you do the easy things, life becomes hard but when you do the hard things, things become easy
2.WHATEVER U ARE ASPIRING FOR, PURSUE DILIGENTLY AND DON'T GIVE UP....rest if you must, but DONT GIVE UP!!! sunshineluv5: Chop kiss mwuahh!! @learner007 congrats....i just mailed you as well. Expecting to read from you. |

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Patrick2go: 8:13pm On Oct 12, 2017 |
MasterforceII: My head hurts. No, I am not thinking about the present situation of the country, the recent NNPC scandal, the fact that we have not had light for days, I have just written my GRE exam. After months of on and off and off and on and off and off and off and off and on preparations, I can now call myself GREat. Lol. Having finally written the GRE, I feel I'm in a position to advise potential test takers. It goes without saying that in order to obtain high scores, one needs to practise. Take as many practice tests as you can and keep working on improving your scores. Infact, the practice tests are coterminous with the actual exams. My experience today proved that. In addition to preparing for the exam, you should also be preparing yourself mentally. You should be googling stuff like "how to keep your brain active for four hours", "How to detect the experimental section in the GRE exam", "How to read 600 word Reading comprehension passages in 2 -3 minutes". I did not have as adequate a preparation as I had wished. Work was so demanding and I couldn't find the time. Still, I studied whenever I could; on commutes to work reading articles from Aldaily, using the magoosh vocab app, memorising words from a list I had earlier created on quizlet (Studying GRE PRACTICE on Quizlet: https://quizlet.com/202373358/gre-practice-flash-cards/ ) - this was especially helpful as associating words with pictures ensured I remembered them. For the quant, I watched the magoosh videos and skimmed through the Manhattan sets. Serious preparations however began 2 weeks ago. I digested the whole ETS guide in one weekend and took the practice tests (158Q, 154V). No other material can substitute the ETS official guide in my opinion. That same weekend I took the powerprep and had (158,152) and I was like hay God! Is this my destiny? I hurriedly went through the Manhattan 5lb for quant and princeton review for verbal. In hindsight, I regret the haphazard manner with which i read the Manhattan 5lb. It is another great resource to ensure a good quant score. Took the second powerprep and the free crunchprep test yesterday and was averaging Q162, V158. Na so I close shop. What else could mans do? I was just hoping that ginger go enter my body today which would cause my scores to miraculously shoot up. Lol. Got to the center and was shown my desk. It was when I sat down that I realised I had not brought any snack. No water. Nothing. And Nairaland people advised me. How could you forget son? It was gonna be a long four hours. I got the VQVQV format. The first Verbal Section no be here o. I was tempted to walkout and go and pick masters form at Unilag. The 2 quant sections on the other hand were not bad at all. I was able to answer most if not all of the questions correctly , at least from my own perspective. Lol. The remaining verbal sections were fair. I did not encounter any strange words. The bulk of my time however was spent trying to decipher those arcane and convoluted RC passages. My advise, tackle the TCs and the SEs first, then the paragraph arguments before dealing with the RCs. That way, you are left with enough time to deal with the RCs. Reported my scores and was not surprised. I was just hoping for more. Sent to my preselected four schools and left the building to go find food and water.
Profile: CGPA: 3.64/4.00 (WES unofficial score) GRE Score: 321 Quant: 163 Verbal: 158 AW: Check back in 2 weeks. Applying for MS Electrical Engineering. #fall2018
This thread really helped a lot and it's only fair that i repay by giving an account of my GRE experience so that prospective test takers may glean from it one or two stuff like I did from reading others' experiences on here. I don't think I would be rewriting the exam. I don't think I can subject myself to that amount of mental drudgery again. Schools will have to accept me with that score whether they like it or not. Lol A resounding congratulations to you sir. Your expectations will be crowned...Amen! Please could you help me with the prinction review to aid my preparation. pa3rkdphenom@yahoo.com. Thank you sir. |

freeradical: Hello gurus. I need help to increase my CRS score and increase my chances of getting ITA. I have a Bachelor's degree evaluated favourably by IQAS. I also have a diploma in brewing certificate from IBD(Institute of Brewing and distilling) but IQAS declined to evaluate it stating that it's a professional certificate. Can I still claim points for two or more degree or must the diploma be evaluated first. IQAS declined? very much expected because i phoned them to confirm to those lines. WES evaluates professional certificates. Give it a shot to see if yours pulls through with their criteria and count your blessings. |

Seriah: God bless you guys for this highly informative thread. Please I have a question concerning "Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees. One must be for a program of three or more years" under the level of education. Do I fall under this category with my BSc degree and Nebosh IGC? IQAS doesnt evaluate professional certificates but WES does for some select certificate. Thus try using WES to cconfirm if yours passes successfully for an evaluation. |
