I think Atiku just had some super belief in the North. He actually had reason to do so, cos for example I was surprised by the Yobe State result. That is one of the most anti-PDP states historically, yet Atiku won it.

Where he specifically miscalculated in the North was underestimating the loyalty of the Northern governors to Tinubu. Tinubu owes those guys BIG TIME, which might not augur well for the country.

In addition if, according to the clip posted here yesterday, he actually believed that Obi’s candidacy would affect Tinubu more it was probably due to ignorance caused by his self-imposed exile in Dubai.

Finally, G5 played a part as well as you rightly pointed out. Overall it was just a poorly run campaign by Atiku. He snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Gbam! Those guys will be expecting ministerial appointments or other top appointments which they don't merit bar El Rufai.

Tinubu picking Shettima and not just any other Northern Muslim helped his course. At some point, I felt Atiku had the advantage but the Northern Governors worked their socks off to ensure the APC had a strong showing in the North whereas, the PDP Governors in the South were divided courtesy of Wike. If the G5 did not happen then it would have been a lot closer or Atiku would have won marginally.

I still don't know why Atiku did not pander to the demands of Wike and his G5 group, Ayu was not worth backing over 5 Governors...

I think both APC and LP affected PDP in the north and south. But PDP felt the impact of LP more. But they realised this after the election.

The APC counted on Obi to deal PDP a huge blow in the SE and SS while the PDP just looked at the possibility of Obi diving the Southern votes as well as the middle belt votes...In the end, the PDP came out worst but to be fair it could have gone either way. It is not rocket science but dude just wants to argue.

Even without their regular starters, City are still dominating Chelsea and playing just as well as they always do.

Down south, the only place Atiku won was Osun, Awka Ibom and Bayelsa.

It can be argued that the PDP saw Obi as a tool to divide Southern votes hence they did not bother to have a go at him. They really underestimated the impact his candidacy will have on them.

Longstaff has played 32 league games this season o, starting 27 of them. I think he is usually the alternate to Guimaraes or starts when Joelinton plays in the forward line.

Even Saint-Maxim is struggling to get a look in and Almiron just won his place back from Jacob Murphy...The players really raised their game.

Nah, I don't think they have a better squad than United as well. But the fact that they weren't involved in Europe also helped them immensely, especially towards the tail end of the season.

If we were not involved in Yuropa league, I reckon we'd have a much better performance in the league. We'd be third on the table at worst.

Kudos to Eddie Howe as well. He has done a fantastic job. Dude dragged them through their bad patch in midseason to where they are now.

Of course the signings of Bruno, Trippier and Isak has helped him so much. If he was still fielding Longstaff in that midfield he wouldn't have had this much success.

We were linked with a move for Trippier but I like many others here was/were not very impressed considering his age and the fact that the Trippier we had known from his time at Spurs was defensively suspect.

Isak goal record for Sociedad was poor so, no top team considered him neither did fans rate him.

The only player of note is Bruno as Afrodoc highlighted in his reply yet they have gone ahead to do so well, well above expectations of even the most faithful Geordie.

I still don't think they have a squad as good as that of Spurs, Man Utd, Aston Villa (Debatable) 9r some of the teams they are above on the table. I did not include Chelsea and Liverpool because of the issue they have had to deal with in the course of the season. Eddie Howe and the players deserve all the praises they have been getting.

You have to appreciate the mentality of those Newcastle players. They have not gone out there to sign the best players but they have managed to raise their mentality and are now approaching games with the mindset that they can and will win...I hope they don't go all out to start bringing in prima donnas in the summer, 2-3 top players and a couple of hard-working players should do.

It's both. He's a great coach but surely the fund's helped in building up that squad. Regular funding over multiple years.
Man literally does point and kill for players all over Europe.
Give a really good manager a chance to get his first choices over multiple windows and watch him build a formidable squad.

One area where we are severely lacking is the area of negotiations. Look at the amount City got for fringe players like Sterling and the other guy they sold to Barca. We spend just as much (however, we overpay) and don't get enough for the players we sell.

If you like spend one billion you are not going anywhere without the right coach. The bigger theme that people should be thinking about is how to deal with playing catch-up to Pep tactically.
Pep just changed everything when he thought people were catching onto his City side and now all of a sudden his RB/CB becoming DM with floating 8's in half spaces and in channels. Everyone's playing catchup now. By the time it becomes vogue and half the teams are doing it, you can be sure that Pep will change again. The man is step ahead of everyone else in terms of tactical adaptation. Give that same city squad to Ancelotti or any other coach and he won't be this dominant.

Klopp is already on it with Trent.
