Even Liverpool and Klopp is making their high line even higher because of the need to compress the space and make their press effective
If you want to do a high press you need a high line or else you are just suffering your attackers for nothing Spot on... |

Expert17: Aubameyang plays from the left, so AWB will do the Lord's work.
For now, we should keep Pogba out of the starting 11.
We have to start with Greenwood and Cavani, no time for experiment , that was the mistake we made against Chelsea. Pogba played very well in 4 - 4 - 2 formation against Leipzig...You should be fair in your criticism of the lad... Starting Rashford, Cavani and Greenwood will see Ole left with no guaranteed goal scoring option on the bench and for Football, you don't play all your cards at once...If we are losing, you don't expect our first point of call to be Pogba, VDB and Mata even though they pose a certain degree of threat... Against Chelsea, the mistake Ole made was starting James and Mata...Replace them with VDB and Greenwood and we would have been far more threatening... |

Expert17: This should be the line up to face Arsenal.
Degea
AWB. Lindelof. Maguire. Shaw.
Mc.tominay. Fred
Greenwood. Bruno. Rashford.
Cavani. I'll take off one of Cavani or Greenwood for Pogba just so we have firepower on the bench should we be losing going into the 2nd half. Also, I will start Tuanzebe over Lindelof to deal with the searing pace of Aubameyang... |

GloryIsaac: That match is unpredictable because it seems that both managers set up their team and lineup based on the opposition's tactics.
However, the likely weak link in the Arsenal backline (If they use 4 defenders) is Gabriel because of his style of play, but he's a huge threat from set-pieces.
AWB should have Auba in his pocket hopefully. Not sure about Shaw against Willian.
United's midfield is stronger, so that battle should be easily won. I am quite certain that Arteta will start with 3 at the back (Luiz, Gabriel and Tierney) flanked by 2 wing backs (Bellerin and AMN)...He'll as well park the midfield and hope to catch us on the break. I just hope Ole starts Tuanzebe to deal with the pace of Aubameyang if he breaks free... I don't think Gabriel will be the weak link o! That guy has looked very good since he joined Arsenal. I am confident of our chances especially if our 2 destroyers start... In the absence of Martial, it will be interesting to see who Ole starts alongside Rashford...Cavani or Greenwood? |

Expert17: We have preached this gospel for long "Martial is not a CF".
But no, Martial 20+ goals last season deceived some guys.
Haaland should be our next CF signing. Haaland will be awesome but let's see how far our current forwards with support from the other players take us this season. I still think Martial is better off coming from the left...The few times he drifted left yesterday, he had the beating of the Leipzig right back. Rashford for now has earned the right to strike for us, dude is channeling his inner Ronaldo... |

Can we start talking about Arsenal before things go south here? Everyone with their opinions, if you don't agree, you can engage the fella if he/she is someone you think you can engage without things going south...If not, make we learn to look the other side...
I believe what we all want is for the team to do well...l bet, even nani667 that is renowned for dropping #Oleout here was rejoicing yesterday... |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by patrickmuf(m): 2:54pm On Oct 29, 2020 |
timay: I doubt that. They play against teams that press in the bundesliga regularly without problem. The likes of sabitzer, Nkunku and co are quality players, so that one nobi excuse They just had problem with the set up we used yesterday, they found it difficult to progress the ball to create chances, thus resulting to recycling possession.
Funny enough, Ole must have seen Leipzig last league game against Hoffenheim , and adopted Hoffenheim strategy with little fine tuning to contain them. Even though they eventually beat Hoffenheim 2-1, but they found it difficult to break them down throughout the game. Those ones lost because they couldn't keep up their concentration level throughout the game.
The key to Ole's win yesterday was Leipzig last match were he must have discovered that the team is useless against low block, hence the 4-4-2 Go and watch Leipzig vs PSG semi finals last season and you'll see that Leipzig undid themselves most times due to errors in their passing game which was clearly on show yesterday... The system Nagelsmann is deploying requires very technical players with stamina...It's not to knock down on his current players but no matter how you look at it, they're not the most technically gifted team around. They might get away when they're up against Buli teams but against the top guns in Europe who pick their moments, they'll struggle. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by patrickmuf(m): 2:32pm On Oct 29, 2020 |
timay: For a young guy, Nagelsmann is an impressive coach, I'll also admit that.
But his style of play of highline is very dangerous o. With a lot of defensively disciplined sides in the EPL who knows how to counter, they will conceed a lot of goals. If he can learn to be flexible and not grow to become a purist mindset like Pep, he'll go far. Watching Leipzig yesterday, you could see that some of his players struggle when pressed. The shortage of quality in their ranks only becomes evident when they are pressed...Even their passing is most times misplaced simply because the payers are not very technically gifted... |

timay: No mind them na
They will always change the goal post to fit their agenda na. It used to be Nagelsmann is better than Ole, but now that Ole humbled him, they now change it to Ole has better players than Nagelsmann. I wonder if we also have better players than PSG too.
Yeye dey smell I was part of that argument and I remember saying that Nagelsmann is over achieving with the players he has...That was way before the game yesterday. I still think Nagelsmann is a better coach compared to Ole...The fact Ole is coach of Manchester United isn't down to his impressive resume but rather his status at the club... As I said yesterday, let us enjoy the victory and wish for improvements going forward...If the team starts playing badly again, some of us will still demand for more, it doesn't mean we hate Ole or the players but we just want better... As for that PSG line, a combined team of PSG and Manchester United should see us having more players in the team...Forget stellar names like Neymar and Mbappe...If in doubt, drop your supposed combine team. |

afrodoc2: Garner is the most favored by the top brass at the club. He stagnated a bit over the last year but can surely do a job here down the line. In particular someone like McTom should watch out. Garner is basically McTom with a passing range.
Mejbri is the new golden boy but his temperament is bad. Has struggled to dominate the under-23s the way he dominated the under-18s BUT he is still 17.
Levitt is 6 months older than Galbraith and when he was around Galbraith could not break into the midfield trio of Levitt, Garner, Gomes. Since they left however he has shone amongst less talented/mature teammates. Galbraith is basically Levitt+Garner( but less defensive tenacity than Garner and less passing range than Levitt).
Importantly Levitt for some reason does not appear to be rated by the club hierarchy.
I would say Mejbri, Garner, Galbraith, Levitt in that order. Wow! Thanks for the insight. |

Afrodoc2, between Galbraith, Levitt, Garner and Mejbri, who do you see making it here? I know injuries, bad decisions and other factors come into play which can be somewhat controlled so, my question is based on their natural abilities... |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by patrickmuf(m): 9:31am On Oct 29, 2020 |
afrodoc2: Our players are better suited for 4-4-2 diamond. I remember i stated this last week. 4-4-2 diamond allows us field a higher number of our good players IN THEIR BEST POSITIONS.
In 4-2-3-1 we don't have a good right wing forward so that is 1 position being used sub-optimally. Our left wing forward Rashford is more of a scorer than a natural creator so that is another position being used sub-optimally. Then crucially our defence has less protection as the 3 forward players don't track back consistently . Our midfield also has less control.
With 4-4-2 you can actually field Pogba and Bruno together in their best positions and still have quality on the bench with VDB, Mata. You can play a true strike partnership with Rashford and Martial and still have quality on the bench with Cavani and Greenwood (all playing their natural positions).
The weakness is on the flanks as the full backs don't have much help and might face 2 v 1 situations more often than they would like. True. I must admit I saw Pogba making effort to track back yesterday. It was even better with the introduction of McTominay as Fred took up the role of covering shaw whilst McTominay offered protection for Wan-Bissaka when Leipzig attacked from the wings. |

pharod: The diamond for me. Pogba was excellent today in his preferred position. Chipped in with an assist. VDB was very tidy in possession and played well. But mehn, Bruno is a no nonsense player. No time for flicks. One time pass sharp sharp. With the squad we have right now, we can comfortably switch to any formation if one ain't working and Ole is beginning to look flexible. It will be interesting to see Rashford and Greenwood up top in our next game. Always thought we were better suited to play a 4-4-2 and so far, it looks like it's the way forward...Bruno is so much like KDB...I just hope VDB ups his fame to that level and then we will destroy any team we come up against... Hopefully, Ole knows when to gamble with the team selection. The Caraboa cup and early stages of the Fa Cup should present an opportunity for by he likes of Lingard, James and Co to play and not an important league game... I really don't want to be drawn on that Sancho debate, I only brought it up to show that fan of Barcelona who cries more than the bereaved that I can turn the argument on its head if I choose to. Greenwood is a fine player and should be allowed to develop at the club. If the board decides to continue the chase next summer, then fine but left for me, I think we should move on as we already have one of the best squad in the world of football added with the potentials coming through from the academy...With the right management, we should be dominating the world of football in the next 2-3yrs. |
