Late General Salihu Ibrahim seems to always be the first in most of his postings in the Nigerian Army. Then as a Major ( but later Lt Gen) S Ibrahim was the first Ex-boy Commissioned Officer to serve at NMS.

He was the chief instructor( CI ) Military in 1971. He later also become become the first Ex-boy Chief of Army Staff later in 1990s during the IBB/Abacha era. In the below photograph, he is seen with Military Wing Instructors.

I so much love this Lt General Salihu Ibrahim . The man is a gentle man officer to the core. Goes about with a gentle mien and soft spoken. Saw him repeated in Ikeja and Mokola barracks when he came visiting back then. God rest his soul.

Is it possible Lt Gen Salihu was older than Gen Gowon? The man died at 93 a few years back. Gowon celebrated his 90th a year or two ago if I'm not mistaken?

The responses are overwhelming negative in condemnation of polygamy and I'm incensed by our rabid acceptance of monogamy as a way of life perhaps in deference to the christian ideology of marriage.
Consider this: A lady, educated and ripe for marriage aged 30/35 years has at most only10 years of reproductive cycle left on her life. seeing her clock winding down slowly, would it be such a bad idea if she submitted herself under a man as his second or third wife and be offered the protection, love, care and children she so desperately needs? why would a lady let pride, vain glorious pride I prefer to call it deprive her of all of these just for the sole reason of being a first wife? so many questions.
I understand the challenges that come with a polygamous home but even I believe these things have been blown out of proportion. If a man is fully in charge of his household and by the strength of his arm is capable of providing for his family, surely these things can be worked out and well managed. I'd add at this time that even the Muslims are beginning to fall prey of monogamism and it's attendant issues in stark contravention of the dictates of their religion.
Overall two cases come to mind: The first is a Christian Lady, 36 or 37 years of age, educated and working who right now has no serious relationship. She's confided in me privately her desire to find any virile man even if younger than her to impregnate her so she'd have a child to take care of her in old age. To show her seriousness, she showed me messages she's exchanged with her, cue your horror, married ex who's hesitant in executing this dishonorable task. I've heard stories of women in her situation who have done or intend to do the same thing. Can anything be more shameful?
The second case is of an unmarried Muslim girl by all means a very attractive one who is at least 31 this year.Shes been proposed to by fellow Muslim men to become their second wife. At most times, she's a bundle of sadness and dejection as we are quite close and she confides in me the severity of her situation.
I'll conclude this piece by saying this: There has to be an intentional movement to push for polygamy in our society today as it solves so many issues concerning marriage.
