[quote author=radautoworks post=95001141]If you're okay with a sedan the 3-series is a much better choice. Just make sure to have it lifted and thoroughly inspected for leaks because motor is tilted to the side and tends to leak from valve cover gasket. Also get it scanned first. You should be okay though if it passes inspection. Take your pick.[quote]How would I be able to do these if I'm getting it as toks?
radautoworks: I am begging you in the name of the car Gods not to buy this car. My father gave his own away to my uncle after about two years. In two years my uncle sell am for 800k because na soso wahala. When water pump matter start he just sold it for groundnuts. This particular vehicle is the spawn of Satan.
There is a reason Toyotas are popular but I'm not big on them either. JUST DO NOT BUY 06-08 X3. If you want BMW buy the 6 cylinder X 5
If you do buy it, please make us your mechanic
So happy you atleast vouch for the X5 even tho I'm not too keen on it, cos of it's gigantic size.
What about the BMW 3series? I'm in love with 'em '06 series and above. Which model would you prescribe I buy?
And ofcourse you can be rest assured I'll be your customer once I hit Lagos. I'm all for quality, and your thread epitomizes it...
emmyN: I just saw where she made the suggestion. Electrical issues can be a hell to work on. Perhaps that would be the best alternative considering your location and unavailability of competent techs.
By X3, you mean the BMW right? O boy small small, if kazeem nor fit fix ordinary Honda na come Bimmer ? I don't know anything about that ride though, but I've read from here that BMWs are a sophisticated technology. But if they have their numbers in your city and there are available techs that specialize in them, then you are good to go.
You may want to check out the car comparison thread on Car Talk when you are ready to land your machine.
Na still next year things, and I'm guessing I'll have moved back to Lagos by then for my residency in LUTH...
emmyN: I just wanted to confirm you weren't puffing while driving, like that "damn niggar" guy .
If you haven't gotten a reliable mechanic yet, then it's better advised to park the car until you find one, especially with that blinking CEL. I have a contact around north, but he's far from you. Jos based.
I actually puff while driving. There's a reason a cigarette lighter is available in most cars. I'm guessing it's because it's allowed.

radautoworks just suggested it shouldn't be fixed. Already got a contact in Yola today sef. Was making preparations when I saw her mention.
I no dey fix am again jarey. I'll rough the car, enjoy and exhaust the AC gas wella till the engine finally RIP...
Moves are already in place to get a tokunbo X3 2006-2008 model next year by God's grace...
radautoworks: TLDR- Was it flooded? Best case scenario wiring fixes most of your issues. Worst case scenario new PCM, ECM and engine. Could it be fixed? Yes. SHOULD it be fixed? Nope.
Hmmm...thanks a lot. I'll continue using it till I break it down then...
Loandbehold: It's really disappointing to see how the protesters in Abuja treated Sowore. This guy has literally been fighting the government of Nigeria and has tried his best to stir the people to take matters into their hands and protest. He was even locked up for the cause.
He joined politics to try to fight them but yet some Nigerians are against him. They tagged him "just like every other politician". He's not like others. He went in there to fight them. Let's not lose sight of that. He might have made some errors just like everyone of us. But time and time again, he always stood by the people. He never turned on the people but now that he and several others have succeeded in waking the sleeping giant, the people are trying to turn against him.
In as much as you might have something against him, at least, show the man some respect. He has done enough to warrant it and he shouldn't be treated like that.
Sowore, "forgive them for they know not what they do," and don't loose faith in the people. We need you in this fight wether we like it or not. Keep up the good work and don't let this little hiccup deter you. There are a lot more people that support you and will continue to support you. Your service is appreciated. #appreciatesowore
That's why I tell Yorubas to stop being foolish, an stop fighting for people that gives no fvck about them...
Other tribes mistake our culture of respect for cowardice, and their maneerlessnes for bravery. But when everything set, na Yoruba dey remain to suffer the consequences.
Islie: EndSARS: Police officer, who championed formation of SARS during Buhari’s military regime, says he regrets forming it
Mr Kwajafa, in an interview with BBC Hausa Service Thursday program, said SARS was formed when the then military head of state Muhammadu Buhari ordered the then Inspector-General of Police, Etim Inyang, to come up with a strategy to fight rampant armed-robbery incidents in the country.
If I were Tinubu, I'll just have laid low, and continued chopping my money as an elder states man, instead of trying to be president and chooking mouth excessively into everything e.g Edo politics.
Now all eyes are on him like sey na only him be former governor.
The way I dry see am, e be like sey hin food go soon done...
radautoworks: FINALLY!! HE GETS IT! I know a lot about cars but I'm NOT a tech. My HUSBAND Glen is! An ASE certified master tech of 35 years! Most of what I know I learnt from him, some from my uncles the rest from owning shop in Houston and learning some tricks from my techs. I don't have room left in my brain to learn much else! Book too plenty. That being said,I can run circles around most of the "techs" I've seen in Naija and on NL
Why you no come talk anything for that my post wey I put my scan result na?
omans14: I bought a Nigerian used 08 civic. I can proudly beat my chest to say that is the best decision i have made in a long time. First body except for bumpers, the price is far cheaper than a Naija used Corolla.,
When you buy am, and how much you cop am? Also you dey use your AC so? What are the issues you're facing so far? Thanks...
emmyN: Bro come, when I say mortuary standard I don't mean you should turn the car into real mortuary o, this one you dey puff smoke inside car .
The blinking CEL points to a critical issue. It's a good move taking it for repairs tomorrow. Still update us how it went when you are done.
Sure bro...
Lols at real mortuary , what's the risk in puffing in an airconditioned ride? Shebi AC go filter everything comot na? Meen no mechanic wey person sabi for Yola oh...
emmyN: You mean the AC is now motuary standard? Me likey .
As in ehn!!!
I even smoke in the car with the windows rolled up, and I no dey feel anything. Abeg is that good?
Though na only the occasional going off when I'm trying to turn in a tight corner and have to reverse and move forward again, also the check engine light continues to blink, and I'm so worried cos I know a serious issue is going on. I plan taking the car to Yola tomorrow to see if i can get a reliable autotech...
Apart from that, I've been perfecting my driving skills with my left hand only. ..driving sweet for night meen! Na for morning people dey always shout ontop my head, as hand never strong for hold ups
saphiere: Pro-SARS/SWAT protest held in Kano state on Wednesday October 14.
Some residents of the state marched to the state government House to deliver a letter of support for SARS and the newly formed Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
The police on Monday announced the creation of SWAT which will replace the disbanded SARS unit.
The state governor, Umar Ganduje, received the letter and promised to deliver it to President Buhari.
This is just a clear picture of the clear divide in the reasoning of the North and the South, and a confirmation of the grave error in our amalgamation...
dicksonadams: Actually it is not a car that Makes one a mechanic, it is interest and passion... My car rarely have issues but oh boy I love researching and solving car issues... sometime I smile the smile of joy when I see a check engine Light or hear a noise from my ride.

My brother, the average Nigerian can't see beyond their noses.
Make Oyinbo just do something, and make dem consume dem sabi...bone dem, we go use dem chop taya
After scanning my car and diagnosing the issues wrong with it, I was compelled to seek knowledge from youtube which has actually revealed a wide knowledge gap Nigerian mechanics are dangerously deficient in, and funny enough, are actually not rocket science at all! Infact I put it to you that you can actually tutor these guys if you develop an interest in auto repairs.
Such a shame these grease monkeys shoved the scan results aside, and went on with their trial and error. It's like me, being a doctor, not engaging the use of diagnostic equipments in the management of my patients, and banking only on my clinical accuracy in diagnosing cryptic medical cases.
Though the car has been fixed- to the best of their knowledge though, and no longer overheating, but it still shows obvious signs that a guess work was done on it.
I'm an evidence based fixer by default, and it's infact it's one of the reasons I bought this jalopy, so I can acquaint myself of the aetiology behind the signs and symptoms of faulty mechanics in a car, and ofcourse it's management; which would overall furnish me with a firm grasp of basic car parts and components, and their functions.
