Sunnybobo3: Ever wondered why yam brought in from Oturkpo Benue State is cheaper than yam cultivated in your village? We do not have comparative advantage when it comes to yams as very few are even now cultivating it at subsistence level as it is seen more as a male crop and the men have migrated to urban areas but when it comes to tubers like cocoyam and cassava, it is the women's forte and there is always a cassava farm around. |

Its to run from tinapa business resort to the Calabar International Conference Centre which on foot is 8 mins walk or 650 meters according to google see screenshot below l now feel you, what is 8 mins walk? The state government should have deployed it, shuttling longer distance within the metropolis so that it will impact the masses! |

Maser: MEDIOCRITY at its worst. As someone who knows Calabar. The corridor where this train operates will not benefit the public at all and the distance is very short. Simply put, it is worthless for the common man in Calabar or Cross River. How many kilometres are we looking at? |

rman: I agree. It is a technological solution per say not a financial one.
Giving it to banks is the major reason why it has not really been successful here. MTN was already running mobile money adverts before they were stopped. the banks argument was Telecoms operators were already big, unfortunately, what they fail to understand is the bigger the telecoms operators are, the bigger they will also make whichever bank they bank with. The banks should have thought of ways of benefiting from the Networks, Take for instance, l use Airtelmoney here, what l did was l got an extra Airtel Kenya sim card, registered it with the Airtelmoney service and also got an Airtelmoney Visa card powered by one of the local banks here, Chase bank. l sent down both Sim card and Airtel Visa card to Nigeria. All l do is send money from my Airtel line right here in the comfort of my apartment and my contact in Nigeria instantly gets an alert through the line l had sent down earlier, he goes to the nearest ATM to withdraw! l can send a maximum of $750 daily. This is one of the possibilities the banks are loosing! |

rman: That's mobile money.
There was an issue with who should run it here in Nigeria. It a telecoms solution for petty financial transactions. MPESA was introduced by a telecoms firm in Kenya but the permission for mobile money was given to financial institutions (banks) in Nigeria. There has to be a collaborative effort between telecoms operators and banks for it to work seamlessly. It is a way of banking everyone that spends money even if you are in the village so far there is network signal, you are good to go. Giving it to banks was wrong! Going by Central bank of Kenya data an average of Sh6.2 billion (N13bn) was moved on a daily basis across the mobile money networks of MPESA, Airtelmoney, orange money etc in the first 6months of 2014! lt is even banks that are playing attache to these networks! |
