The two counter organizations you quoted down there are known and discredited left wing extremist propagandists who are largely responsible for the gross failure of the Left in today's US. @ Seun, lalasticlala,

When did Nairaland start giving airtime to fake news and far-right extremists? Nairaland has a duty to balance conversation in a highly polarised society, not give legitimacy and airtime to every KKK or ISIS organisation to heat up the polity even more.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_for_Security_Policy

The Center for Security Policy (CSP) is a far-right,[3][4] Washington, D.C.-based think tank. The organization's founder and current president is Frank Gaffney Jr.. The organization's mission statement is "To identify challenges and opportunities likely to affect American security",[5] where main activities are focused on exposing and researching what it believes to be jihadist threats to the United States; a number of these beliefs have been widely discredited, such as its false claims about American ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. The CSP has been criticized by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center, among a wide variety of other media and research organizations, for propagating conspiracy theories and Islamophobia, and described as a hate group, a label the organization disputes.

The main issue is that we are deliberately being misinformed by the government. And they are doing this wickedly mainly because the judiciary cannot speak up for themselves in the media.

1) We were not told that the millions of dollars being mentioned were the total amount of money that passed through those accounts over the YEARS. However, the government and its cohorts in the media made you and many others think that the whole money was lumped into the said accounts. Wrong.

2) We were not explicitly told that the man had actually filed the initially omitted declaration since 2016 when he became the CJN. That was over 2 years ago. Yet, you and many people are deliberately made to think that the CJN was caught last week hiding his assets. Wrong.

3) We were not told that the rule is that when an official admits to an error in asset declaration (as the CJ did), HE OR SHE SHALL NOT BE TAKEN TO THE TRIBUNAL. What's needed here is to simply update the form with the omitted information. But the government is not doing it, because they are actually not interested in following the law. All they want is to cling to power by all means - even if it means destroying our democracy and setting the country ablaze.

4) We were not told that the CCT was not a regular court and was not set up to try corruption cases. In fact, the government is not telling us that, by its ordination status, CCT is NOT under the judiciary but UNDER THE EXECUTIVE. Can you imagine that? The executive arm using its own agency to unitarily suspend the head of another and totally independent arm of government. Ludicrous!

Finally, this is not the first time. This is exactly the same thing that happened last year when the executive tried to use the DSS to change the leadership of the National Assembly. They sacked the DSS director when the mission failed and there was a huge backlash? But have you heard anything about his prosecution up till date? No. How about those that took the maze from the senate prior to the DSS attack? Any prosecutions? Nope.

That should tell you something about this executive.

jara:

This nonsense has certainly turned into something else not the real issue of corruption.

Some people do not care if Nigeria is bled to death by corruption. It will achieve their goal.

Yea, so says the amoral clown with zero sense of logic and rule of law. grin

Not only will your judicial actor go down swiftly, but every thing he pretends to do in his role as the usurper will also be swiftly overturned. Why? Because you cannot build legality on illegality. If the foundation is wrong, even the righteous can do nothing - let alone the grossly compromised usurper. His entire work in these few days will be swiftly overturned pretty soon.

Dumbito, we are talking about suspension, not removal.

Remember that line? grin

Anyway, the CJN can be removed, but through a well defined process.

1) Starts with the recommendation of the NJC.

2) Gets the support of the 2/3 of senate.

3) LASTLY, the presidential pronouncement.

Got it now dumbby? grin

Jesusloveyou:
the Senate can remove the president through impeachment even if he is not corrupt, even with immunity,

For those of you arguing stupidly that SUSPENSION is not the same as REMOVAL, do you realize that the senate has the constitutional power to remove the president via impeachment? Yet, they have no constitutional rights to suspend the president for any reason. Why? Because they are two different arms of government.

Or, can you also imagine Saraki suspending the president (and appointing an acting president) due to Buhari's alleged perjury and fake certificate scandal? Anyway, I won't be surprised if you support that. After all, you probably supported the presidency when it tried to remove the senate leadership forcefully last year.

In any case, if the senate cannot suspend the president, so also can the president not suspend the CJN - the head of the judicial arm. For the avoidance of doubt, the judiciary is an independent, non-political arm of government.

The president may suspend his attorney general, and appoint another one in acting capacity - if he likes - but not the CJN. There is simply no constitutional provision for the president to suspend the CJN.

Got it now?

Mynd44 too is missing the point.

Yes, to his credit, we need serious intra-regional alliances and integration. But it won't be in the form of identity politics played by the West and North. Igbos are too genetically republican minded, collective-centric and individuslistic oriented to retrogress into identity politics as a culture.

Unfortunately, only an entrenched person of Igbo extraction can understand this.

Thus the said regional-alliance will be institutional and driven by socio-economic ethos rather than being based on the identity of some elitish political class.

This is in response to your op ed here: https://www.nairaland.com/3795771/igbos-need-stop-acting-like

As I mentioned there...

Here are few things to note quickly:

1) We do not need any dumb alliance with any devil to make it.

2) Wake up to the fact that there is ZERO hope for this contraption as it is currently structured.

3) All round COLLECTIVE-self-assertion is the way to go for the Igbos.

4) It's time to isolate, assert and master our COLLECTIVE-id. That's the key to self-sufficiency. China did it. Australia did it. Singapore did it. The Jews have been doing it forever. So, bleep the Nigerian politics. This is a global village.

5) Harness your COLLECTIVE-stregnths, entrench your collective-idividuality, assert your collective-self-sufficiency, and all will court your COLLECTIVE-attention.

6) You cannot synergize inter-dependently with folks who think you are needy.

7) Bleep the local synergy. Prove ALL your mockers wrong FIRST. Succeed WITHOUT their alliance. And watch them turn arround to lobby for your alliance. That's the way to go for the Igbos.

Finally, again, there is no future in the Nigerian politics as currently structured. It's not about the collective. It's all about the few elites. Igbos are for the collective and not for any few super-humans. Igwe bu ike. Igbo ama eze.

Thus, Igbo alliance with either of the two big oligarchy-centric tribes AS COMPATRIOTS did not work before independence. It did not work after independence. And it is not going to work in the next one million years if the COMPATRIOT string remains attached.

Thank you.

This is how sane and free people reason.

I seriously hope that others from your region would emulate you.

If everyone was responding to the Igbos' crave for secession the way you just did, there will be practically zero tribal war on this forum or elswhere in Nigeria.

Thank you again for being reasonable and humane.

TheStronghold:
On the topic at hand, in terms of secession from a yoruba perspective, I share the same sentiment with another yoruba who posted earlier, we as a people want all time greatness. Many yoruba people want to be part of a nation that ends up being a powerhouse that can dominate the entire african continent if given the right focus. Yes, we can be great on our own, but there is another level of greatness and influence that comes with having a 175 million strong country. Sweden is a great and beautiful country, but it will not be alongside the United States in the history books of human history. I think we realize that to get to that level as a country, we must go through the bad, to get to the good. Even if that means delaying our own immediate progress as yorubas, for the greater progress of the country of nigeria. I do think we are partly to blame, because we aren't as engaged in leadership in Nigeria as we should be. I do believe if Osinbajo had been the president at the outset, he would've given more attention to the southeast (as he as shown in his role as acting president), and we wouldn't be sitting here having this conversation today. So ultimately I do want nigeria to proceed forward.

However, as previously stated, if there are nigerians tearing the fabric of this country apart to the point that it can't progress as a functioning country, then Yorubas and other nigerians, should come to the conclusion that the country isn't benefiting anyone, while hurting everyone. From this realization, a split should happen as soon as possible. So i'd like to be on the record that if there were to be any secession, the Yoruba should, and would secede as well. We cannot, under those circumstances, continue to put our faith in anyone else other than ourselves. We were great before Nigeria in our empire, we are moderately great within Nigeria, and we'd be great without Nigeria.

In the possibility that it does happen, I look forward to the healthy competition between the igbo and the yoruba nations. grin I really do think the north will quickly get left behind though.

Your arrogance is disheartening.

But how about Yorubas working with the Igbos in pushing to leave?

Your talk is simply full of ignorance. If the MAJORITY of Igbos want out, the few rich ones in Nigeria and elsewhere all over the world can choose to nationalize in their host country.

Jews have more natives in diaspora than they do in Isreal. Does that mean that the quest for the state of Isreal was not the wish of the Global Jewish community? How about the UK? Did the stay voters, who by the way were in their millions, stop the Brexit?

Please talk sense for once or just keep shut for good.

edi287:
Look, if we were to have a referendum in the east, more Igbos will vote to stay...I have no doubt in my mind. Nigeria isn't perfect - truth be told, it is a shithole. But guess what?? Igbo, hausa and Yoruba have had a role to play in it being the shithole it is likewise the few good things about it. Everyone with have a brain knows Nigeria needs fiscal federalism - the Yorubas agree with this...but instead of working with the Yorubas to achieve this, some stupid idiots go ahead and abuse and insult the people who by the way have been hospital to us...is this how you play politics??

Fact of the matter is alot of Igbos have settled and are extremely successful in THE SAME REGIONS THEY CLAIM TO HATE...how the heck does that make sense?? I swear there's a huge chance that over 80 percent of these fools screaming IPOB have at least one relative that is successful and earning a living in "Afonja land".

One of my uncles used to say that we Igbos can be very undiplomatic at times....I never understood what he meant then till I got a bit older. Nairaland is a perfect example of that. Heck someone called me an Afonja because I'm Igbo and don't agree with these ipob morons...that's how deluded some of these fools are.

What Igbos should be doing is trying to work with Yorubas to push for Fiscal federalism. Stop acting all high and mighty. SE is a joke compared to the West. If anyone should be crying for secession, it's them. Fact!

Stop spewing trash. The tank farm belongs to Capital Oil - a fully incorporated legal entity. The tank farm does not belong to Ifeanyi Uba.

So if the company gets involved in shady deals, then, sue it. That's why companies are called legal entities. And that's why ONLY fully registered companies are allowed to do certain businesses.

Fact is, Ifeanyi Uba's arrest was nothing but a pure act of intimidation. And the stupid "Yorubakwe" who wrote that dumb article is nothing but a mental imbec.ile.

abescom:

Commercial dispute? Jesus!! Are you for real? Something was stored in his tank farm, he sold it off without government approval and you tag it "commercial dispute"?

And even if it is merely a commercial, of which it is not, why can't Uba be allowed to defend himself? I guess the Diezani one is also a commercial dispute? Olisa Metuh one as well?

Face the truth, it doesn't kill, you igbos ( not all of you it must be said) enjoy defending corruption these days mainly because of the "I am victimized" mentality and nothing more.

Very good.

Unfortunately you missed one vital detail...

The author's emphasis is on IGBOS; not "the East" as you termed it.

And Igbos are a MAJOR INDEGINEOUS part of your so called "South South" even PRIOR to the formulation of that political label.

HungerBAD:
Azuka Onwuka i greet you.

This is a very intelligent write up.

Once upon a time, even up to 2 weeks ago, i supported that the Ibo's should not be allowed to leave the Union. But, after thinking deeply of it, i am in support that they should be allowed to go away.

I came to this conclusion after the unaccountable arrests of drug carriers from the Eastern part of Nigeria. If they were known as Biafran's, the rest of us law abiding Nigerians will not be embarrassed, harassed and even sometimes be killed by those mistaking all of us, and erroneously terming all of us criminals in the Diaspora.

Moreover, there is absolutely nothing the East contributes into the coffers of Nigeria. The little developments in the East, was done from the monies gotten from the oil in the South-South.

The East gets more from Nigeria, than it contributes to Nigeria as an entity. They are short changing us, and i support they should leave peacefully.
