In fact, can you show me where she publicly and openly issued a blanket dead threat to all intending jihadists and terrorists - let alone doing it few days to the general elections?

Can I break it to you? You all supporting this are barbarians. You are all mentally messed up.

1stCitizen:

Your hate for Buhari has turned your mind into a warped state that I doubt if any treatment can help. The UK recently upgraded its policy on the use of firearms by police officers in certain circumstances. It was "shoot to kill' like they did during the troubles in Northern Ireland. Buhari has also given a similar order in certain circumstances. Ofcourse you won't know this because you have still not gone for treatment

Politics / [ANALYSIS] APC OPPOSED The Use Of Soldiers For Election Security by pchukwudi: 11:51pm On Feb 18, 2019
Nigerians, just look at this matter and judge for yourselves how hypocritical your so called leaders are.

1) In 2015, the PDP government was ordered by the courts not to deploy the soldiers for 2015 elections.

Here's an excerpt from that order:

“The armed forces have no role in elections.

The time has come for us to establish the culture of democratic rule in the country and to start to do the right thing particularly when it has to do with dealing with the electoral process which is one of the pillars of democracy.

In spite of the behaviour of the political class, we should by all means try to keep armed personnel and military from being a part and parcel of the electoral process.

The state is obligated to confine the military to their very demanding assignment, especially in this time of insurgencies by keeping them out of elections. The state is also obligated to ensure that citizens exercise their franchise freely and unmolested.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/court-bars-soldiers-from-polling-stations/

2) Buhari and APC insisted that the PDP led government and the INEC must obey the court order by not deploying the soldiers FOR ANY REASON during the 2015 elections.

Here's an excerpt from the letter APC sent to INEC in 2015:

“I am sure all well-meaning Nigerians share your deep seated concern on the militarisation of our elections.

“It is therefore imperative your good office and commission ensure, henceforth, and until there is an enabling Act of the National Assembly, the court orders are obeyed and armed forces personnel are never again deployed in any form of security supervision of our elections."

Source:

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/apc-writes-jonathan-jega-on-using-military-for-elections/

3) Fast forward to 2019 elections, not only is APC led government deploying soldiers (and other security agents) to the elections, but Buhari has publicly threatened Nigerians that soldiers will kill people at sight during the election (if they're perceived to be ballot snatchers). No head of state has been this reckless in this country during an election. Not even Abacha. And the army says they are ready to obey the order in full.

Here's an excerpt from the Army's response to the government's alleged call for extra judicial killings during the forth coming elections.

Here's an excerpt from the order:

If Commander-in-Chief has given order to the Nigerian Army to that effect, be rest assured that order will be totally and effectively obeyed without any ifs or buts."

Source:

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/313713-nigerian-army-speaks-on-buharis-death-threat-against-ballot-snatchers.html

4) Finally, remember, APC has kept telling us that all the elections from 2003 - 2011 were rigged. They also told us that Book Haram was on rampage during Jonathan's era. What does this tell us? It tells us that Jonathan and the then PDP led govt. had lots of just and valid security reasons to deploy soldiers during the 2015 elections. However, Buhari and his APC party insisted that the then government must not deploy soldiers.

6) But, today, despite the fact that the 2015 elections proved to be one of the fairest and most credible elections in the recent history; despite the fact that Buhari has severally claimed that security situation has improved and Boko Haram has been decimated, still he is deploying a record number of soldiers during the 2019 elections. Not only that, he has also instructed the soldiers to kill at sight. Again, no head of state has been this reckless in this country during an election. Not even Abacha.

Two different things.

The US backed the observers in demanding that INEC strictly adheres to the new date.

No one - not even the president - has openly backed INEC for the postponement of the elections. If anything, only the CUPP has commended INEC for refusing to conduct a staggered presidential election as some elements in the govt./ruling party allegedly wanted it to do.

I don't waste time with idiots.

If you have any sense of decency you'd know to stop calling a person a name he said he does not like.

Aboki, for example, literally means "my friend". But you'd find it offensive if an igbo political leader refer to hausa people as "the abokis" in an igbo political meeting. Did you see that? Even Nairaland won't allow you to refer to the Hausa as the abo.kis not even for educational purposes. grin grin

Afonja is a well known Yoruba name, but the idiot you referred to said that "it will not be taken lightly" if Yoruba's are tagged as the "afonjas" in an igbo political meeting. Yet the same idiot is here seeking to baselessly justify tagging Igbo's as the okoros in a Yoruba political meeting. It cannot get more idiotic and diabolical than that.

You have zero right to tag a group of people with a monica that's different from their official name. And if you do that and get called out on it, the decent response should be to apologize and take correction. You have zero prerogatives to query why they find your tag offensive. That's the height of arrogance. Just stick to the official names or STFU.

StOla:

Why run away?

Why not explain what Okoro alludes to besides being an Igbo name used to denote all Igbos.

Just as Yorubas use Gambari to denote all Hausa-Fulanis, but the name itself does not allude to anything beyond identifying the tribe.

Same cannot be said of Igbos use of Afonja, or Hausa's use of the term nyamiri, both of which tell a story.

So rather than run away, answer the question that was posed to you.

I don't see how Okoro or IPOB was used in a derogatory term in the post.

What makes Okoro derogatory? You have refused to answer.

Igbos here call Yorubas afonjas because afonja was viewed by them as a coward and a Fulani slave.

Tell us what is derogatory about Okoro? If a Yoruba calls you Okoro, what might he be trying to allude to?

At least, we know that when Igbos call Yorubas afonjas they are trying to allude to Yorubas as Fulani slaves.

You are still not getting it.

Okoro is not a derogatory word with Yorubas as Afonja is with Igbos.

So, please, calling Yorubas afonjas in a public gathering would definitely not be taken lightly because the name has become popular for the wrong reasons.

If Tinubu had called Igbos developers or flattheads, then, I would have seen the undertone of tribalism.

By the way, Tinubu's remark did not bother me one bit. That's why I did not even open the thread where the audio was posted.

You want to insist on generically referring to Igbo as the "okoros" (because it's an igbo name) rather than referring to them by their actual names.

Yet, in the same breath, you do not want Igbo's to generically call your people "afonja" despite the fact that it is a Yoruba name.

Don't you see how hypocritically illogical you are?

Now can you imagine the former governor if Enugu state for example referring to the Yoruba s as "our brothers the afonjas" in an igbo dominated political meeting at Enugu?

Refering to an igbo person as okoro when his actual name is NOT okoro, is a common derogatory remark. And he knew that very well.

He could have simply used "igbo red caps" in his remarks, which is more sensible and correct. But he chose to go the route of derogation.

Truth be told, that statement was derogatory. Pretending otherwise is just what it is: pretension.

Tinubu knew the audience he was talking to - his base.

He knew he was stoking tribal sentiment against his perceived elusive demographic - the Igbos.

There's no need to whitewash this.

Standing on that pedestal, he had more than a few non-controversial ways to make reference to the Igbo's. But he did not.

Instead, he simply tagged them as the "okoros" - a street colloquial term for Igbo derogation. He knew precisely what he was doing.

globemoney:

[s]
OLAADEGBU:

WHAT ATIKU ABUBAKAR PROMISED OBJ FOR HIS ENDORSEMENT!
Written by Barrister Abegunde O. Adebiyi. 12 February at 08:31

The political system took a different dimension especially when former President Obasanjo endorsed his most hated associate, Atiku Abubakar. I was in Abeokuta, Ogun state when the Waziri of Adamawa secretly visited his former boss at his Ota island.

We were not surprised because politicians are coming day by day, as soon as Atiku, Saraki, PDP National chairman and some persons unidentified by me, the meeting went to close door. It took 2 hours to end the meeting. Shortly after their arrival TY Danjuma, Aliyu Gusau and some Oil magnets stormed the venue. Now, I got confused. I asked myself what is going on here. This is beyond political gathering, but a formation of business interests. Few of us were told to step out, but I was lucky to stay in due to my Dad's influence.

The meeting began as at 11 pm and ended 2:49 am. It was fantastic actually, but every horrible and disheartening, I saw evil elements and wicked games. I knew Obasanjo is evil but never knew he is as evil as he was during the meeting. I now realize why my Dad sent me to represent him.

I don't like President Buhari, but something came to my mind why did is Obasanjo so wicked to him and his people (the North), unfortunately I don't have the answers.

I don't need to go into details of every bit of their conversation, but rather highlight the conditions given to Atiku and his elements, if they actually need his (Obansanjo's) support.

1. The Waziri signed a paper to allocate more Oil Wells to both TY Danjuma and his cronies.

2. That the Mambila hydro power station will be suspended.

3. That the Baro Sea Port will be suspended as well.

4. That he will impose National ban on Cattle Range.

5. That when supported into office he will make sure all oil exploration shall stop.

6. That he shall renew the subsidy regime.

7. That all corruption charges shall not be given attention.

8. He will handover to Peter Obi.

Seeing the above conditions my heart exude, I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, I have to confide in my Dad, he told me clearly that Obasanjo hates anything development, my dad confessed to me unless the man is dead otherwise we can't get ourselves out of this mess.

My worries about the whole meeting was Atiku's acceptance to deadly proposals. Why would he accept such evil agenda? Does his political ambition override our National development or what?

As I said earlier I don't want to go into self-consciousness will always judge me if I fail to say something. I know what I am putting myself into. I know what might happen to me, but I don't care, I will be very happy while laying down in my grave if Nigerians know what they are plotting than to live and cry day by day.

My note is a point of call.

Barr. Abegunde O. Adebiyi.

Nonsense

It's clear that you are still a teenager.

Don't worry, I'm sure that when you finally grow up, you'd get to understand the value of freedom.

But, FYI, on democracy we stand. Any attempt to topple it will be the end of Nigeria.

[s]
BedLam:
I think otherwise, on a lighter and homogenous scale, democracy makes so much sense, but it has proven to be the worse type of govt when people are different by all indices just like you have Nigeria.

What advocates of democracy don't tell you is the fact that democracy is for "sophisticated" people--people who are different but well educated or people that aren't anywhere brittle like this country of ours. Our ethnicity, languages all make us fragile to the common issues that others can tackle head-on.

It is a slow type of govt, even slower even you have to factor in our uniqueness because almost everyone and everything is considered before critical decisions are made which is detrimental if we ever want to leap forward.

Just so you know, very few countries developed with democracy being the system of govt in the last three decades, more than 80% percent of development happened in regions with authoritarian govt( I am talking Abacha and his band of thieves ). Not bigoted Buhari as well! Look at China, UAE, and Singapore!
Even Europe didn't develop with democracy!

Our democracy has been two steps forward and four backward. If we want to pursue other countries in terms of development democracy won't get us there in the 50 years, well unless we go back to the drawing board and restructure but how can people that are benefiting from this nonworking nation even attempt to make it work? It is like asking the lawmakers to reduce their pay by 50%!

I know people will argue that democracy gives people a voice in govt, but would you prefer a view that is almost not heard in govt to development that will create wealth and prosperity? This is like choosing between Brazil and China! Of course, a lot of us will go to China. The only countries will giant strides today are almost authoritarian, which means having a pragmatic leader that knows what building a state is.

How long did it take the UAE to catch up? Advocates of democracy won't get shy running over there to earn a living.

What we need is "authoritarian meritocracy"! Not a govt of mediocrity Everyone should ponder on this while reading.
